Wonderful experience. Staff very nice and attentive. The drink was very refreshing. Bread came with roasted garlic oil and butter which complimented the bread and the “sticks” were out of this world. Salad simple but the main courses were a hit. The bbq beef melted off the bone and had just the right amount of sauce. The crab cakes delicious, crispy on the outside and inside all crab. The sauce just added another dimension to the flavor. Pomme frites and dipping sauce perfect. Desserts were wonderful. Did not get full name for the winter citrus but a great melting of flavors. No pix but the brown sugar cheesecake just as flavorful.
Had a lovely experience at Diamond Mills for their Thanksgiving set menu. It was reasonably priced for the quality of food we received, and lots of staff being attentive. It’s set in a lovely location and the restaurant itself is open, airy, and clean. My only *slight* criticism would be that when the server took our first drink order my partner ordered a non-alcoholic beer and we were brought a light beer (still alcoholic) and we only realised after pouring it into the glass. I did tell the server immediately, and I understand that mistakes happen (The server was also very young so could just be inexperience) - I would just advise to be more careful in the future. Overall it was a nice experience and I would definitely consider coming back.
I went to BlackBarn to celebrate my anniversary last night and I couldn’t wait to write a review because the food and the service was absolutely incredible! We got a table right near the large fireplace and right from the start Our server paid close attention to every detail, the drinks were fantastic, we got the octopus and crabcakes for appetizers and each bite was better than the last. I got the scallops and pumpkin risotto for dinner, which was absolutely delicious and my boyfriend got the chicken entrée which was also awesome. They even brought out a gluten-free menu for me which included many of the items from the regular menu, which I was happy to see and my own gluten-free bread basket! The service was fantastic and we will definitely be back
We went to the Blackbarn today for brunch and we took some professional photos of our little ones since the restaurant has a beautiful view. The food was delicious but more importantly the staff were incredible. I had some car trouble and had two small kids with me. I was trying to find a solution and kept running into issues with zero way to entertain my kids. The staff was so kind in keeping an eye on them for me, giving them hot cocoa and crayons to color with while I was running all over trying to fix my car. Some of the staff tried to help fix my car as well. I felt truly blessed to have kind people to lookout for us. I highly recommend for not only the delicious food but the pleasant vibes here!
Chef Marcos Castro actually asked us personally if our food was perfect, Yes! We had octopus with whipped hummus, kale salad & also scallops. Food was absolutely delicious & Cabernet Sauvignon wine excellent! The venue here is absolutely beautiful with a lovely fireplace. Our server Ashley was wonderful too! I would definitely recommend Black Barn & looking forward to eating at blackbarn in NYC too. MJ Mathew
We dined at Blackbarn in Saugerties, NY for the first time this summer. It was delightful. The waterfall views outdoor seating deck was lovely. It was part of a perfect day trip to a town we now will revisit often. The drinks were great. Food was delicious. Octopus with potatoes was our favorite. The bread was very nice also. The gnocchi was creamy & dreamy. There was a beautiful wedding happening at their attached venue and the entire grounds were kept to that high hosting standard. I would feel comfortable sending anyone there for a meal, to stay, or to host an event. If you haven’t been to the Diamond Mills property in a while, it’s time for a visit. I think you’ll be impressed as we were. I’d like to note, the bathrooms are exquisite too!
We had the most wonderful experience celebrating our best friend’s 50th birthday, and it couldn’t have been more special — thanks in large part to Chris! As part of the Waterside Spa at Diamond Mills, Chris thoughtfully helped curate an unforgettable day for us, and then generously extended his care by coordinating a beautiful dinner at The Black Barn. From start to finish, every detail was handled with such care and intention. We were given a lovely private room with a stunning view of the waterfall, which made for an incredible backdrop for photos. I was also given the opportunity to personalize and decorate the table, which added such a meaningful touch to the evening. The staff at The Black Barn — from the warm welcome at the front door to the attentive servers — were gracious, professional, and made us feel so celebrated. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and enjoyed by all. This entire experience — from the spa to the dinner — was seamless, joyful, and full of special touches that made the celebration truly unforgettable. A heartfelt thank you to Chris and the entire team at both Waterside Spa and The Black Barn for going above and beyond. We can’t wait to return.
My son's girlfriend and I enjoyed a lovely brunch at Blackbarn last Sunday afternoon. Unexpectedly we both ended up ordering huevos rancheros and light drinks that were a mix of Prosecco and lavender with a nasturium flower added to make it seem all the more elegant. Our young waiter took terrific care of us, and the hostess even gifted us with a lovely small "turtle" that she had crafted out of the wire that held the Prosecco bottle closed. We had a great meal, and the staff took wonderful care of us! I highly recommend visiting this classy farm to table restaurant in Saugerties, NY!
Our recent visit to a picturesque restaurant with a stunning view of the falls. It was an unforgettable experience. This place is amazing they have the beautiful views to offer! There foods are the best!!! Our waitress very nice.. we defenitely coming back because me and my husband love it!!highly recommended to everyone!!! Don’t missed this out and visit blackbarn restaurant hudson valley located at saugerties..
We made a reservation for a party of 15 for Sunday brunch. When we arrived, they gave us a choice of indoor or outdoor seating and we're flexible with adjusting for a slightly smaller party. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and quick, which is not easy when dealing with a large party. Everyone loved their food and the setting was gorgeous. Highly recommend for a fun, celebration meal when visiting Saugerties.
We stopped here just for drinks as we had already eaten, and because the place looked very cool. They have a large bar, a large open dining area, and a very large beautiful outdoor seating area overlooking Esopus Creek and a very large group of conjoined waterfalls. I had a Bloody Mary and the wife had a Vodka and grapefruit juice. Both drinks were presented beautifully, with several types of garnishes in the Bloody, including celery, olives, peppers, and a specially flavored salt on the rim - fantastic! The vodka & grapefruit included some fresh violets floating in the glass (edible) adding a dash of wonderful color and whimsy to the drink. Both drinks were skillfully crafted by our bartender "Hawaiian Brian", a refreshingly friendly and attentive server. The venue itself is a beautifully designed space, with killer views overlooking the river from the very large dining room and outdoor deck. This place would be wonderful for a wedding or other big event for up to about 100 people. The menu is widely varied, and fairly unusual. I am looking forward to having a meal here very soon!
Incredible! Our server Valerie was lovely. The bread with a blend of olive oil, butter, and roasted garlic was unique and delicious. I added greens to the farro salad and it was DELICIOUS! The salmon was good. We took a take our chicken for our daughter and that was great too. The patio is lovely... It is a good spot for a special occasion. Drinks were great too. We will be back!
Really good food, the octopus was probably the best I've had. I had the braised beef my wife the salmon. So very good. Service was great and a very attractive and rustic restaurant. We did get a voucher for 2 glasses of wine for staying at Diamond Mills making it a very affordable high class dinner. The exec chef delivered our appetizer and spent a few minutes speaking about the establishment.
Dinner was good, although super pricy! Had the octopus appy, delicious! Dinner was the seared scallops, 4 of them, over Butternut squash risotto with big chunks of seared pork belly, aka bacon. A sweet micro green garnish. $43.00 for the scallops. Service was ok, hence the 4 stars. I was only drinking water, my water glass was left empty twice. And the server never came back to check on how the dinner was after our was served. Jill, head of operations, did stop by my table and chatted a bit with me. Over all the food was good, but really expensive! Had a nice table by the fireplace which was sweet in a cold day. Outdoor dining looked nice, right by the waterfall, but the waterfall is loud.
Given the price point and atmosphere, I expected the service and execution to be a step above. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. We visited for the Valentine’s Day prix fixe menu, and while I understand holiday service can be slower than usual, the experience felt disorganized from the start. When we were seated, we appeared to be the only newly arrived table, as most other guests already had drinks or food. It took over ten minutes for our server to greet us, with no acknowledgment or apology for the delay. Our appetizers arrived before our drinks. When I asked the food runner about the status of the drinks, he seemed unsure and asked who our server was before going to check. The drinks arrived shortly after, again without any acknowledgment of the delay. I ordered an Old Fashioned, which was served in a tall glass filled with small ice cubes, almost like crushed ice. It was an unusual presentation for that cocktail and made it difficult to drink without the ice piling up. I ultimately waited for it to melt down and did not finish it. The French onion soup was average. The broth and cheese were flavorful, but portions of the bread were burned beyond being edible. My sea bass entrée was excellent — one of the better preparations I’ve had in terms of flavor — but the accompanying polenta and spinach were served at room temperature and cooled quickly. My wife enjoyed her scallops and lobster risotto. Dessert was underwhelming. The chocolate macaron was unremarkable, and I didn’t finish it. The strawberry mousse tart, recommended by the hostess, also failed to stand out. Overall, the food ranged from very good to mediocre, but the service felt slow and inattentive throughout the evening. This was our second visit in two years, and unfortunately, it was slightly worse than our first experience. Given the price and expectations, we likely won’t be returning.
The food was good but not great. For the price I would expect better. For example the charcuterie board had ritz crackers and the panzanella salad was a regular salad with extra croutons.
For two main reasons, we chose this place to host an engagement dinner for our son and his finace. First reason is location, easy for guests coming from the Lake George area to get to from exit 20 off of the New York State Thruway. Second reason is in the past they have provided a delicious vegan option for my vegan daughter; not this time. The Mushroom Ragout they served was NOT what I requested and it tasted disgusting.
As a local, I have been checking out all the NEW restaurants in our town, “ over-priced & fancy” as I see it. Of course, let’s hear it for our beautiful waterfall but it was not lit up at night so we could see it sitting out on the veranda. Beautiful place and our waitress was wonderful, so was the manager. But, it could have been a lot better My guest ordered her $25 hamburger medium rare, it came out well done. She did say it was delicious. Should be, it’s a burger. She was also charged extra for the Olives in her Martini. What ? I got the LASAGNE very tasty but it was BURNT. I sent it back but was told by the chef, “ “It’s supposed to be that way” Hello ! I may be Irish but this town has some of the best Italian food around. Never have I seen BURNT ITALIAN PASTA on a menu. So the lovely manager gave us a free dessert to take home, my mouth watering for the lucious carrot cake to eat at home. The gave me a TINY piece of cheesecake. They need a Chef that cares about their guests, listens to them and at least TRIES to make them happy. Very unorganized place The regular dinners are mostly over $35/40 & very small portions. Not worth it at all.
I planned to love this place! But it was just ok. So, I put in the reservation that a) it was an anniversary and b) I have an onion allergy. We arrived and the place was pretty empty. Plenty of staff per customer. We chose to sit outside which was lovely. The hostess was pleasant enough. Our waiter came- very young, eager to get our drink order etc. after perusing I asked if I could have the mocktail with passion fruit juice (which I love) but with a shot, so not a mocktail. He said sure. The drink I got did not have any passion fruit juice in it, and in fact tasted like rosemary which is not my favorite. I couldn’t drink it. Then i mentioned my allergies and the waiter had not known about it. He seemed really unsure what to recommend so I went inside to chat with the hostess. I just wanted her to alert the manager to help as the waiter (lovely guy) seemed new. She said we should have put it in the reservation. I said I did. She looked and said “you wrote onion and garlic but you didn’t write allergy.” I said it was in response to a question on your form about allergies. (Also why else would someone write onion and garlic on the reservation?) She got really flustered/annoyed and said “everything has onions, you should just get a salad if anything.” It was so rude. There are 2 kinds of restaurant people- those that are eager to help with allergies and those that make you feel you don’t have the right to come out at all. She was the latter. She also said the chef went home so there was no one to ask. (What?) When we got back to the table, a sous chef was there. We were able to talk through options and settled on the scallops. They were delicious! They never acknowledged the anniversary (again it’s a question on the form. Why ask if it’s meaningless?) and when we gave the waiter our “free glass of wine” ticket from the hotel, he accidentally charged us anyway. Overall I have to go with three stars as their system is messy. With an empty restaurant there was NO REASON to make me feel unwelcome. The waiter was attentive but needed more training. Overall, they just need to focus on staff training and this place can be amazing. Look at the view! It was my husband’s birthday and mine this week and our anniversary… and we were ready for a splurge and this ended up being just ok.
Came here to celebrate a birthday. Black barn is a beautiful venue that has the potential to host weddings and great place for date nights and celebrations. Even though it was a classy setting with views of the dam in the outdoor seating area, they are also very family friendly. They have a kids menu and their drinks came with cute plastic cartoon straw cups. The $17 option comes with ice cream for the kids too. This place could have easily gotten 5 stars if the food wasn't all overly salty (even my kids didn't even eat their fries). It's a pity because everything was plated so beautifully. Their octopus appetizer was not fresh and their ahi tuna was overcooked. When our waiter took our order he didn't ask what our kids wanted to drink even though a drink came with the kids and we were charged $4 for each. They quickly corrected it when we pointed it out but we also had to remind them about the kids' ice cream (which they mixed up the kids' order too). The waived the cake cutting fee as we had a party of 10. Nevertheless, it is still a nice place to visit if you want a place with a beautiful atmosphere and also family friendly. The staff were all very friendly and kind.
Pretty rough service experience to be honest. We came in at the tail end of sunday brunch and didnt see a single staff member for about 7 minutes at the host stand. We did confirm with the bartender that they were still open, and he did seat us, but forgot menus. We then may have had a server but the bartender came back for our order. Food was okay at best. I doubt the chef has met a medium rare burger before. Credit to the staff for offering a replacement burger and actually asking if we were happy. Bonus photo of the plastic table sporting a table top wig!
