The Bluefin Truffle Tostada cannot be beat. The sushi was excellent - very fresh! Our favorite was the Protein Roll. The service never disappoints, and its comfortable to go dressy or in jeans. My only complaint is the prices are higher than what I would consider fair. Otherwise, a great date night spot!

I would have given 5 stars except they told us after waiting 30 minutes to get seated that the sushi was another 45 minute wait. Other then this everything was amazing our favorite was the jalapeno poppers. We also loved the Kung pao chicken. Tried the lamb chops also the duck wraps

Very small and crooked rolls, seafood salad, ramen for eight out of ten. The atmosphere is wonderful, the staff is amazing. But I won't come here again. There is no wow effect of dishes.

Stopped here for a little sushi experience and it didn't disappoint, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was on the fancier side but still inviting and comfortable for an impromptu visit! The service on the other hand was slow in receiving our food even with sitting at the sushi bar, they were kinda busy but good thing is that we were not in a rush at all!

Banbu sushi isn't my favorite sushi place. It's my mom's and it's a great place to hang out with friends have a nice meal and enjoy a game. The atmosphere is nice and calm and has that outside patio seating with warm lighting and a fire pit that makes it a great place for a birthday, celebration or even watching a game at their bar. The food is good and flashy, beautiful rolls with all the style and swag that pleases the eye. Not fancy sushi? How about some ramen? A burger maybe? they have it. Their tonkotsu ramen felt like something was missing for me though not bad, but not the traditional flavor I was looking for. The soup was runny and looked more like cereal than ramen. They added like half a pound of cabbage which ruined it for me. I got to try their surf and turf roll which was good, steak seared nicely with hints of lobster and crab. I also tried their new york steak and it was cooked nicely. The food is good for the price but if you're looking for a more traditional flavor I would try some other places in SD for a smaller price. The atmosphere is nice and friendly and the rolls are flashy but the presentation is half the battle. Their staff is nice and wait times can get prolonged if it's a holiday. For a nice outing with your loved ones check it out, and enjoy the scenery. For taste and price there are other options I would recommend.

Very nice Japanese restaurant and Sushi bar. Nice atmosphere fresh sushi and attentive staff. The sashimi is very fresh and delicious as is the sushi rolls. I like to order the chicken teriyaki with miso soup. The miso is awesome with great flavor and always fresh. I have coming here for 2 years and usually have lunch with the occasion dinner. The price is comparable to other places and the food is better than most. My one complaint that every time I order my meal the chicken teriyaki is always cold. They must make it the second the order is placed and not mindful of the sushi and soup that was just brought out. It is annoying that this happens and only wish they could wait till the first course is done.

We have come here often and unfortunately the food has not been consistent. This last visit for my birthday was disappointing. We order 6 different items and only two things were great (Lemon Roll & Seaweed Salad). We also had to wait 30+ minutes to get our sushi’s after ordering which was not cool considering it wasn’t that busy. We order a small fried rice and a roll as appetizers which our waitress got to us quickly. They said there was a big party in the back which was the reason for the long wait. Everything looks but rice and flavors were not good this trip. I won’t be visiting for awhile as it’s too pricey for Inconsistent food quality.

Service and atmosphere (ambience) were great. It’s a great place to meet and talk since it’s a spacious place for indoors and outdoors. It just the food was lacking of the authenticity in term of the taste. Too fusion maybe (?) Presentation was great tho. We ordered 3 items, we couldn’t finish one and took it home. We didn’t take the picture of that one roll. Their menu was massive, a bit confusing for a first timer. I have to say for the price, I expect more authentic Japanese flavor, and didn’t find it here.

In short words, food was good but a bit pricey!!! The waitress was nice and helpful. Tonbo roll was very good. An update: This is my third time. Well, again, I think it's just a little pricey as compared to a similar quality of food. I can't complain. Everything has gone up. Yes, the food is very good. Sushi and sashimi combo with the poppers.

For the price, I can’t recommend this place. The staff was genuinely great, service was on point, and the drink menu is loaded with good options. But we spent about $250 for four people and only ordered a handful of items, and the food just didn’t deliver where it matters most: quality of fish, flavor, and ingredient quality. It feels like the hype is doing a lot of the heavy lifting because of the location, but customers deserve better value than this. $22 for a small bowl of gyoza soup is a stretch, and $28 for a “seafood dynamite” that’s basically a seafood medley with sriracha and mayo is hard to justify. If I had one recommendation, it would be to cut the rarely ordered menu items, simplify the ingredient list, and put that effort and cost into better quality seafood and ingredients. Right now, you’re paying premium prices without getting premium food.

We were seated at 7:10 PM and ordered our food shortly after. What should have been a quick order turned into an extremely frustrating experience. It took over an hour to receive our food, and during that time we watched several other tables—who were seated after us—get their meals before we did. At one point I politely asked our server, Marlee A., how much longer our order would take. She looked directly at me and then walked to the other side of the restaurant to help other tables, completely ignoring my question. This felt incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional. When our food finally arrived, it had been about an hour and twenty minutes just to receive two sushi rolls. Instead of apologizing for the long delay, she simply said “thank you for your patience.” There was no apology, no explanation, and no effort to make the situation right. The lack of communication and basic customer service was extremely disappointing. Waiting over an hour for two sushi rolls while being ignored by our server is unacceptable. I hope management addresses this, because this level of service reflects very poorly on the restaurant.

I’ve tried sushi in many places around the world, and unfortunately this was the most expensive experience with the worst quality sushi I’ve ever had. It’s absolutely not worth the price, and I wouldn’t recommend spending your money here.
