Alberto's is a long-standing, popular Mexican restaurant known for large portions and reasonable prices. Customers rave about the carne asada fries, California burritos, and breakfast burritos. Some recent negative reviews mention dirty bathrooms and inconsistent food quality.
Tip: Come hungry, as portions are large. Try the carne asada fries with tomatillo salsa.
stopped by for lunch have some great food options.
This place is great They remolded everything so it would look better and it looks decent. I love their food. Right now my favorite dish is the fries with guacamole cheese and sour cream and with carne asada 😋🍟🥗. Overall this place is amazing and would recommend their prices are really low.
Salsa is really good and was pleasantly surprised about the food -really quite good. I had a taco combo and my friend had the shrimp plate which she said was amazing and looked great. Good for fast food!
Foods really good here and affordable. Workers are really cool people. Nothing special about the atmosphere though.
This is a great little place for a quick bite. Fast good Mexican place. Generous portion for cheap prices. Took some friends over there and they were all very happy with their food.
For breakfast, my go-to is always the Machaca burrito. For lunch or dinner, I opt for either rolled tacos with guacamole or a Carne Asada burrito, but without pico de gallo.
Always super delicious! Not a rip off at all, food is reasonably priced and servings are large. I come here every week and will always continue to do so!!
Best California burrito and shredded beef tacos in the state. I literally joined the marines because they offered to buy my lunch at this place. The recruiting station was in the same shopping center. BEST IN CA!
Been going here for years. #1 spot, food is always on point and fresh, service is quick, and the store is kept clean!
Love this place! So thankful you guys are open so late. If it weren’t for you guys, the only options would be super processed food from commercial chain restaurants. This is the only place to get authentic food, actually made in the kitchen, by real chefs after a certain hour around here. Thanks so much! And may the Lord bless you all!
Oh the memories. When attending Saddleback College way back in '97 and '98, we hit up Albertaco's at least a few times a week. Food was always really good and really cheap, very important to a college student. Glad to see 20 years later they are still around. Next time I'm in SoCal I'll have to come by for some great food and nostalgia.
One of my favorite spots growing up
The crane asada fries are the best. They have great guacamole too. This is the best late night hangover food ever! The salsas are pretty spicy even for their mild salsa, this made me happy!
I DoorDash as well as attend Saddleback college across the street, this is my favorite restaurant to go to for work and in my free time. The food is unreal and the kind staff always put a smile on my face. Definitely try it out if you haven’t yet :)
My best friend and I we are making Mondays our day for Albertaco's. The food is so great 👍, I love the crispy chicken tacos 🌮, breakfast burrito the best ever, service is good I don't know if they don't have employees but the place look dirty, bathroom need remodeling, other than that everything is great specially the food 5 stars 🌟 🤩!
I go for the carne asada fries or nachos and like the different salsas. Surprisingly not a lot of places offer this or at least do a good job at it. Coming from SD there are some amazing places, this place is good enough. Standard cheap order at the counter mexican food place.
Great value for the best Mexican food in the area. I can forgive the wonky set up inside that defies logic (the line to pay always blocks the drink station). Their food and the great value keep us coming back. Would highly recommend. Best as a "to go" experience. Always busy being across from Saddleback College.
Love the food but 2 days ago when I ordered the beef enchiladas as usual, I was disappointed to discover large slices of bell pepper throughout which had never been there before. Please discontinue putting them in the enchiladas as this seriously detracts from the taste and being from way down South Texas almost to Mexico I'm no stranger to Mexican food. The tacos, rice and beans were awesome as usual. The service is excellent and the staff are friendly and polite.
this place really surprised me as it was halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles, and way off the road from the San Clemente 5 freeway. I don't just recommend this place, I'm going to make it a point even if I'm not hungry to stop by here and try other things on the menu as I was very impressed. I review hundreds of Mexican food shops from San Diego to Los Angeles I just want to know that whatever I eat it tastes like Mexican food and it gets my Mexican food taste buds going and satisfies my Mexican food need for that time. so on to the review of what I ate. I saw a picture of a fajita quesadilla and I couldn't resist but going outside of my box which is very rare and having a fajita quesadilla. along with that I had one of their mahi-mahi fish tacos. they were the shape of a chicken nugget but I couldn't really tell because they are crisp and soft and had such an incredible flavor. I can't explain it for the first thing I bit into was the fajita quesadilla and let it drip over the fish taco just a little bit and then when I bit into the fish taco it had a great sweet and slightly fishy flavor. so I'll end my review with just saying I'm very satisfied with his place for my high standards of eating Mexican food in San Diego at least three times a month and being unbelievably disappointed with Los Angeles Mexican food, I was glad that such a rich community had such a diamond of authenticity! please follow me, I'm sure after reading this you don't have a choice your heart is pulling you in my direction but I promise you I will not disappoint you ever!!...
Great food! Great service! Prices have jumped considerably. However, the quality is worth it!
If you want good fast Mexican food in Southern California, I'd personally recommend this place first. While the lines can get long during lunch, they have some of the best selection of Mexican food that I have seen. Both their tacos and Chorizo are excellent, and I always want to try something new whenever I come here.
We have been searching for good authentic Mexican food that is local for awhile now. This place.... holy perfection! Asada burrito, A+, shredded beef nachos, A++, rolled tacos, regular tacos 👌. Even the salsa (both red and green) were perfect! Great quantity of food for a great price too! Will absolutely be going back!
This place is a nice hole in the wall for Mexican food. It has a huge variety of food on the menu and specials Monday through Friday. Some of the food can be hit or miss but if you are looking for hands down great crispy shredded beef tacos I highly recommend this place. Also have them add rice and beans inside the taco to really set it over the top!
I gre up eating Mexican food at home and I feel this restaurant keeps it humble. At home flavors, great portions, reasonable prices. Their sopes combo is amazing, probably the best sopes in that local area.
My husband and I doordashed food from here and it was fast and perfect! There was a bunch of food in our plates and enough left over to eat again another time. Loved it!! Enchiladas & chicken asada.
Place is gas, big portions especially on the tacos; none of the street taco sizes. Horchata is part of the few good ones in the area, and they load you up. Love this place since its walking distance of the college and the mall.
I love this place so much. I’ve been to every Albertacos location in Southern California and this is the best. Love their guacamole especially, and they are great value. Always friendly staff.
Literally best Mexican food in socal imo. When I travel, this is one of my first stops when I get back
Wow. Amazing hot food. The burrito was TOO BIG they gave me an extra tortilla to take home! 🤗. Extremely friendly staff. The guy looked and sounded like an actor 😂 Very fast service too. Very clean establishment, great for vegetarian and vegan options! Try the burrito with Cheetos!!
Great homemade horchata. Amazing beans and rice and great enchiladas.
Tacos are HUGE. More like mini burritos. Tons of meat, loaded up. I had the carne asada and carnitas. I ordered three. I probably really only needed one, maybe two. It's that much food. Good prices, good salsa bar. We come here anytime we're in the area!
They aren't as good as they used to be but they are best in the area. Prices are getting up there but solid portions and good quality. I usually do takeout and my orders are always perfect. Used a delivery service once (don't recall which off top my head) and the orders were always messed up.
Thank you so much for amazing and fast service! Our order was ready before the estimated pick up time which was super helpful. And i appreciated the cashier being fair and taking care of our order first as a lady tried to get in front of us to get helped before her turn. Typically people wouldn't pay attention to this. I felt valued and seen. Will be back again for sure!!
This little Hideaway that was absolutely delicious Mexican food. I ordered the grilled fish taco and it was to die for. It was perfectly grilled with the best seasoning and the taco was outstanding. One taco was $3.83. There were twenty-two men in the restaurant eating and I was one of two women. The portions that I viewed that other people had with many different varieties we're really amazing. I would absolutely recommend this location for a great meal.
Wife and I found this place after a long day visiting the hospital up the road. Now this might be our stop when driving thru Orange County. Easy to get to, tasty food, fast service, friendly staff, clean restaurant. I recommend the Mission Viejo burrito (no picture because i ate it too fast)
I order dinner for pick-up here often and I've rarely been disappointed. It's a "fast food" restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating and authentic Mexican cuisine. I always get the delicious breakfast burrito to save for the next morning. The California burritos are excellent as is the Carne Asada burrito. I LOVE their burritos, they're large and very filling. Don't miss out on this deliciousness!
I used to go to this taco shop when I was in high school from 2003-2004 and when I say the carne asada nachos are the BEST I am not lying!!! So glad this place is still around. Can't wait to visit again.... 21 years later.
While I was a student at Saddleback, I'd come here all the time for a Vista Cali burrito & drink. Cashier guy knows my order at this point! Great sized burrito keeps me full all day, fantastic salsas. Love adding a little bit of their Quemada Dark to the green tomatillo salsa for an extra roasty, spicy kick.
Authentic Mexican cuisine open up late. Large portions for alright prices. Cashier with mustache and short black hair friendly, i got pork tacos. I thought they had too much pico in them but otherwise very good the guac was very good. Bathroom was dirty but then again they were getting to cleaning it. Shrimp Burrito from past visit not the best. Neither am i a big fan of the fries but this was good food and great service today, thank you in JESUS name to the staff. Acts 2:38
Update: I haven't been here since the pandemic. I'm so happy to say that my recent visit was so yummy. I loved how friendly the staff was. They made my order incredibly fast, maybe 5 minutes, until my order was called. They were busy refilling the homemade salsa bar. And working hard cleaning the restaurant and bathrooms... if you haven't tired this place, it's a must. They are open till 2am, which is hard to find in our area Orginal review: I love that this place is across from Saddleback College. You're studying and need some comfort food. It hits the spot. Tonight, I tried a California burrito, yum! The salsa bar has a good mix of different level heat. My favorite is the green one.
Come to this place HUNGRY. Delicious LARGE portions and lots of diff items for everyone to choose from. Got the chicken enchiladas and fish tacos and nacho chips with guac and cheese and sour cream. Sooooo goood 😋 It was busy and theres a reason for that! It takes some time but so worth it. We'll be back thank you!
Kind of shocked at the one star reviews here. Because I didn’t have a bad experience🤷♀️. The wait was a bit long to get the food but we did order a decent portion and it is made right there and then so that is expected🌯🌮. Anyways, the food was great, everything looked great, tasted great. The red sauce is really spicy🌶. Haha. Nice portions. Good place. I liiiikee.
This place has amazing Mexican American Classics like the California burrito with carne asada, french fries, and guacamole. Huge portions and reasonable prices make this place a definite location for anyone nearby, primarily Saddleback College students, as it is located right across the street. I always leave full and usually with some leftovers. Great place to stop by if you don't have a lot of time also.
It is a classic vibe of cheap college Mexican food. It's super bomb for cheap and I've been going here for years. I hit a breakfast burrito add beans, or a California burrito. Both are great in their own respects. Highly recommend
The food and service were great as always. One thing that is all screwed up is the layout. The placement of the salsa bar and soda machine were poorly planned. People are always in each other's way. Please move the salsa bar to the other side of the coke machine. The ordering line should be next to the window to the kitchen. There also needs to be a pickup window located in a convenient lication. Also, use customers names for calling out orders for pickup.
The food was delicious! However, the prices were unexpected because it shows it’s affordable but it’s not really. Also I always tip but making it mandatory on the screen not really good move.
It has been several months since I was last here. I feel they may have changed cooks or prep methods. The super fries were good, but I feel like they cooked the fries less crispy than they used to and the carne asada was not evenly chopped. While the rolled tacos were over fried. Not my best time there, but still a decent outing
The place to go if you have never had carne asada fries. Portion sizes are very large for the price point and service is usually pretty quick. Food is always hot and quality. They also make really great burritos. The seating inside isn't the best or up to date but it does give off relaxing vibes.
This place does a good job. They used to be great but it didn't stand out the last couple of times. The breakfast burritos are huge, under $5 and made in less than 10min. If you like potatoes in your burritos please be aware they chop french fries in which is not my favorite but overall it's worth it if you are hungry and on a budget.
My boyfriend & I recently ordered food from here his was great. No problem. Mine on the other hand I ordered a quesadilla, I expected a quesadilla. I did not anticipate to take more time to eat my food
This place is usually always very good. I've been to multiple locations and it's always great. But, ate there the other day and I was very disappointed. Ordered a cheese quedilla it was entirely to greasy and what cheese it did have was all in the middle.
Not the greatest, but not the worst. The fish was greasy, but they put tarter sauce in with it which was definitely unique compared to other Mexican places. I would go back. Portions are decent size too. Location could be cleaner for sure but I understood they discouraged dine in.
Would have gotten another star at the very least however that drink machine right next to the line for placing your order is possibly the worst decision a restaurant owner has made EVErrr in ᵗʰᶦˢ universe. Anyone who has been there and gotten a drink knows what I'm feeling! Food was pretty good and got to us hot so real happy about that, large portions and the place was fairly clean so I'm probably going to visit Albertaco's again and I will sneak my own drink in this time.
The food(we had carne asada burrito, beef enchiladas, carne asada tacos, carne asada nachos, carne asada french fries) was pretty good. Our only complaint about the food was that the lettuce on the enchiladas was from the whitish part of the lettuce and so it was too thick and bitter. The reason they only got 3 stars is because both their paper menu and their website prices are from 2020(2020 carne asada burrito price: $6+, 2023 price: $10+). There is just no excuse for that.
Usually pretty good with good prices. Just went today with my wife and the cashier was totally incompetent. My wife asked if they have green enchilada sauce instead of red and she just kept telling my wife to use the salsa at the salsa bar. My wife ordered a chimichanga burrito no sauce and it wasn’t fried and was drenched in red enchilada sauce.
Prices are good. Got two shrimp burritos to go . Ordered extra cheese and sour cream , they didn’t put any of them but they did charge for it . Make your cook put more attention on orders.
Hmm… I want to leave a review but hesitate bc it was an error or my part. Cashier/staff was kind. The tortilla was bomb (and I mean that 💯). I ordered a chicken burrito, thinking I didn’t need to look at the menu to order a chicken burrito. I looked forward to it all day…. I got a burrito with only chicken in it. 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🙋🏾♂️ It was a normal size burrito, so lots of chicken! It was flavorful chicken, but I knew it’d have something else in it? But user error, bc the menu says “just chicken” I have to ask for rice, beans, or anything else. VERY interesting 🤔🙈😫 Again, MY FAULT, but I’ve never seen a restaurant do that before lol. Why? Do a lot of people ask for that? I have so many questions!!! 😩
I ordered the famous breakfast burrito, 😟 EXPECTING the main ingredient to be EGGS WITH bacon, fries and cheese, but it was MOSTLY FRIES😒. Bummer!! How many eggs are supposed to be in this item? I have been eating at Albertaco’s since it was in the 1st location in the 80s and this is the 1st time I’ve been disappointed. PS: The place could use some fresh paint, too!
I was looking for authentic Mexican food and flavors flavors tried Albertaco's. The menu options are good. It is weird they have the vegan burrito, but no vegan beans. The burrito had tons of rice, very little veggies. It was supposed to have guacamole, but I never saw, nor tasted, the guac. Sadly, the burrito was lopsided, meaning most ingredients were rolled into one end. The pico was pretty and had jalapeños for spice. Overall, the food was bland. Really bland. Vegans love good, flavorful, non-soy food, too! For the flavor I wanted, this was not it. I am shocked at the blandness of everything. No flavor. No seasoning. Nada. Online ordering, you do not get to choose your sauce, so they sent all hot sauce. Not cool, Albertaco's, NOT COOL. My first bite was a hot, flavor-less bundle of mostly rice, which sucked. I wanted veggies, not a burrito full of rice with a sprinkling of veggies.
I love taquitos.. I've ordered them there several times, however the last two times the taquitos were cold when I bit into them. They don't take the time to warm them up properly, and in my I'm in my car leaving the parking lot.
I waited 45 minutes to get my food. When I asked the gentleman at the counter where my food was he turned around and asked the kitchen if they had completed this order, they proceeded to tell him yes. He turned around and said that he must have called my number and someone came up to claim the order... with receipt in hand and no food, I said no that didnt happen! He did not call out the number I was given on the receipt although he stated he had, I was less than 10 feet away from him the entire duration of my wait. So... he took my receipt and I sat and waited for another 20 minutes. I was not compensated or discounted for my time and/or their mistake. Please underarand all I ordered was 2 quesadillas, a bean and cheese burrito, and one order of 3 rolled tacos, half of that is already pre-made and sitting hot at the cook line!! This place used to check your receipts before handing your food to you... they should probably go back to that!
Open late, but their fish tacos are just mostly fried flour drenched in Mayo. I would classify this place as a restaurant that hides the poor quality of their food by drenching it in sauce. Chips were nice and hot, but their salsa are also lacking in flavor.
Hate this place. Food is alright but it's just Mexican food. Never ever had good service and food takes minimum of 10 minutes-usually more like 20 or 25. The following is a true story: After A's burgers was closed, I decided I would try Albertacos one more time. All I wanted was a bean&cheese burrito. Boring I know. Anyway, I'm the only one there. I place my order and wait. Seriously took 10 minutes. Finally, I saw the cook wrapping it up when the cashier's buddy walked in. They exchanged some words I couldn't hear, then he glanced at me and gave the burrito to his buddy, who walked out, without paying of course. He called the cook out to whip me up another one. He really worked hard this time-got it done in 5 minutes. Wow! Tortilla, beans, cheese-who'd have imagined they could be combined so quickly?! I mean, props for taking care of your bff, but I'll never return. Amen.
I'm from LA and had a huge craving for super fries. Since I've moved to Irvine I can never find a good Mexican spot or an alberto for the matter. Well I found this one and went at 10pm, happy it was 24 hrs. But the fries were old, chewy and cold..
Would really love to give a better review...... the food is great, customer service however is seriously lacking. I order the same thing every time. Cheese enchiladas with extra cheese. Sometimes with or without sour cream and guacamole. And for the past year every time I go they mess up my order. Finally today was the time I just had to leave a review. First go round they gave me chicken enchiladas. I kindly return them to the counter and point out that I ordered cheese enchiladas not chicken. When they bring my replacement order half of the rice and beans are outside of the tray inside the bag. This is just unacceptable!
Been going here for years. Since ownership change this past summer ive gone a total of 5 times. Good food but I always get sick. Everyone I bring gets sick every time. I eat all kinds of things from all kinds places and never have i gotten so consistently ill. Used to come here for memories now its all tainted with emergency trips to the restroom. Nice staff.
I needed a quick breakfast while my SO was having hand surgery nearby. My gut reaction walking in was too leave....no other customers and the smell was off in there, not cleaned properly. Well the food was cooked enough, didn't make me sick...but the flavor was bland and the meat in my burrito was tough...like not fresh. I was disappointed. 60 miles from home so I wasn't going to complain or ask for compensation. My experience was not good. Restaurant was not clean either.
What a disappointment! We were craving tacos, and decided to try this place because the reviews seemed good. First, the only vegetarian option was a burrito, which my husband got, and it was technically fine but very bland. (Plus the red sauces on the side have NO spice.) I tried the fish tacos which were so gross I threw out my 2nd one. I have no idea what the fish (or any other ingredients) tasted like because the tacos were DRENCHED in a disgustingly sweet tartar sauce. I don't understand the positive reviews hear... Beware.
Hi, My concern about customer service is not a reality, and to be honest, I have never ordered on my own. I am a food delivery person and specifically I always pick up orders for Door Dash, in the last week they have always been specifically late with my orders, and they make orders that arrive later, and I have had to wait for more than 20 minutes, seeing how they deliver other Orders that came after asking about my order. I understand that sometimes it is busy but they do not handle first entries, first exits, with reference to COVI-19 I have been performing an essential service, and they give preference to other orders that come latere I would appreciate more carefully, that the employees give the best service, because the people who use the delivery service, have also paid their respective order. Best regards.
Just went back after a long period. Had the chili relleno. The dish was not hot. The cheese was not melted on the inside. The chili had a little bite and crunch before, not now. So sad to see a good place fall so far.
Ordered takeout. Not only was my order completely wrong, the food was cold and all mashed together. It was completely inedible. I will NEVER eat or order from this restaurant again. I recommend the same to anyone tempted to do the same. I wouldn’t even give it a star, but that’s not an option.
Taco Bell is wayyyy better and that’s not a compliment I think that sums my review.
4% discount if you pay cash, but this isn’t reflected anywhere. They say it’s part of the price. Horrible service. Yall have that sign posted about customers choosing a different beverage with courtesy cups, but have the AUDACITY to tell me my 4% discount was considered but it’s not listed on the receipt?! The guy with the slicked back hair at the register needs to be fired. Totally incompetent and unable to figure out basic customer needs. I’ll never come back here.
Order delivery from here, and did not receive any of the extras which they charge for. The 2 burritos I ordered, which by some miracle they did send, were labeled incorrectly and my wife being vegetarian took a bite of my burrito which contained. This location has to be one of the worst locations with staff who apparently cannot read. Do not recommend.
Worst experience I called in advance to make an order of a mission Viejo burrito and to asada tacos. The representative over the phone said ten minutes. I get there ten minutes I get in line pay I taking another five minutes. The food isn’t ready and I understand it’s busy sure. I had to wait 30 minutes get back and line just to find out the food was already ready the whole time . That is the most disrespectful thing I ever experienced in any restaurant if you want to call it that. A food truck has better service.if I can give it zero stars that would even be more than I deserved.
I don't normally write reviews but this place deserves it. DO NOT EAT HERE. I've tested this 3 times, and I confirmed they add extra salt to orders - mostly take out - so much salt that you cannot eat the food. And it was in different dishes, not just one. They don't like that my wife asks for extra sour cream, so they over salt our food on purpose. Food is terrible.
My burrito had rotten sour cream in it and my quesadilla had slices of American cheese with grease all over! The cheese also was not melted! Disgusting
First time trying to find a good place.Guy making food had a complete meltdown kicking the fridge slamming stuff around etc. 1st time and last time this place was horrible. All these 5 stars obviously dont know authentic Mexican food. Cheese enchilada was so hard you couldn't cut it even with a knife inside cheese wasnt melted a drop of enchiladas sauce taco soggy the food obviously had been sitting around for a while and employees altitudes show. Good luck
I got a breakfast burrito. The fries were burnt hard and all the bacon was chewy and there was a big chewy piece in the middle. I am really disappointed. I’ve never left a review, but I’m shocked. It was that bad.
The carne asada fries are not good, I would highly recommend Adolfo’s Mexican food rather than this stuff, fries are always dry and over cooked, go try Adolfo carne asada fries are much better. They also don’t include sauce and utensils they way Adolfo Mexican food is. Would not recommend, my torta was also very hard too crew. Didn’t like it. Please go try Adolfo Mexican food instead of these guys, you won’t regret it trust me.
Once upon a time this was a great taco place. They now DO NOT ALLOW you to not tip them, after charging you $13 for a burrito. The Cashier, at least the day I went was not friendly, inviting, I would even venture to say a bit rude. Additionally, once you paid for the burrito the tip option did not have a "custom" open or a "no option". After you paid, it only gave you the option of 15% to 22% or something like that. Tipping is totally fine, although its not the custom to tip at a place like that, they should not make it mandatory to tip by not even giving you the option to not tip or make a custom tip. With the guy standing there watching you as you did it, it felt as though one was pressured to pay more for an already expensive burrito. Once upon a time this was a good place to go, for decent burritos for the value in Mission Viejo after school, that is no longer the case. The food is okay at best now, the service is questionable if not below, and the price is not worth it. Until they change this I would not recommend going.
Day time cook is falling asleep. Almost hour wait.
I ordered a breakfast burrito with extra sour cream and of course, I was charged for the extra sour cream and received it without sour cream.
I livyou're and have 8 and loved Alberto's. Last time I wenthe bathroom was filthy. I had to go next door because I had to pee real bad. I'm very disappointed and the food wasn't good. I will never, ever go there again. Low-grade.
