Our waitress was so professional, pleasant and extremely knowledgeable- even took a photo of our group at the table and presented it in a little souvenir frame as it was my friends bachelorette! The food was divine- highly recommend the ribs!
Expensive but worth it! Next level food, the best care from the staff. No rushing you to leave.
Best service I've ever received. Once they found out it was my anniversary, they went above and beyond to make it a unforgettable experience. Thank you guys and an extra thank you the the server, Bojan. You were amazing man !
Elegant, warm, inviting, delicious food. We visited during the covid pandemic and they were very attentive, going over and above to ensure a clean, safe dining experience.
Impeccable service. Quality, fresh, thoughtful food. A little strict with the reservations. Definitely worth it. Holiday decorations are among the best I have ever seen!
Incredible food! Our waitress was so nice and because it was our anniversary dinner she took a picture of us and placed it in a frame for a great souvenir.
Terrific. Beautiful location. Wonderfully cooked food. Was not that excited about the choices on the menu but the food is way more exciting than the descriptions which is rare.
Excellent, though pricey, dinner of filet mignon (wife) striped bass (mine). Additionally, great smokes trout, bellini w/roe , creme fresh & scallion and HV foi gras. Will come again for dinner
I’ve had a wonderful experience at the View. Wonderful atmosphere! Very cozy and wonderful staff. We will be back
From the top notch service, the special touches for our anniversary and the delicious food, The View at Mirror Lake was a delightful experience.
Max was our waiter. Wonderful. Excellent service, excellent food, superb chef, great bartender in the lounge. Would highly recommend.
All the food was delicious. Everyone in my party enjoyed each course. Looking out over the lake was beautiful. The staff were very helpful. Zach, the host, was very attentive and helpful in selecting drink options and his food recommendations didn't disappoint. I will definitely be going back.
We came here tonight for dinner and they accommodated our last minute reservation. The food was excellent and so was the service. We had the pork patê, bucatini, sautéed shrimp and Chilean sea bass. I didn’t eat the patê because I’m not a fan, but my partner really liked it. I really enjoyed the sautéed shrimp, but be warned it is spicy! I like spicy food, so it was great for me. I also had the Ausable Spritz, which was very tasty. We got engaged today, and the restaurant printed out a special menu for us, which I thought was a very nice touch. I recommend this place if you’re trying to find a spot for a fancy dinner around Lake Placid!
The best service and best food I’ve ever had. From the start the waitress (Jackie) had confirmed one at the table had a gluten allergy and was attentive to that all night. She brought out gluten free rolls in a basket with a different colored napkin from the regular bread. Before I could even ask questions Jackie had the answers for me. I had the filet and it was out of this world! Highly recommend!
Beautiful restaurant in the Mirror Lake Inn. It can be a challenge to get reservations. Don't try to call during dinner service, they won't answer the phone. Nice for breakfast too, however the buffet is a little limited for the 46 dollar price tag ( not included tax and gratuity). If you want anything off the menu, they charge you for the buffet plus the off the menu item, even if you never touch the buffet. So beware. However overall a lovely setting, good food and very nice service.
I have been eating at The View Restaurant at The Mirror Lake Inn for over 6 decades and it is always an outstanding experience. I recently had foie gras and filet mignon, both of which were perfectly prepared and served. The view was delightful. I’m always eager to go back!
The food, ambiance and food service staff were friendly, accommodating and professional. The candle 'live' although surprising was quite a lovely and very romantic touch. Some of the best salmon and halibut we have ever had in our lives!
I had my birthday dinner here and it was such a warm and welcoming experience from the moment we walked in. The food and service was amazing. Thank you :)
WONDERFUL dining experience!! Fabulous food, beautiful room and views. Excellent service...from greeting us with a smile and warm towel, to Stacie who was so attentive, professional, and kind, to a visit from Chef Curtiss. Could not have been nicer. I highly recommend The View for gourmet dining.
Aside from the food being phenomonal, we had the best service we have ever had at a restaurant. Marco our server continuously went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. We were there for our anniversary and he even brought out a digital camera, took our photo and then went and printed it for us. We will be back and will be requesting him again!
Beautiful setting with views of the Adirondack mountains and Mirror lake. Greeted with warm damp towels to wipe our hands and seated at a linen covered table. Certainly a 5 star restaurant with delicious food
The best dining experience of my life. Everything was perfect. It is so nice, it is intimidating at first. All of the food was perfectly prepared, in perfect portions. Quite pricy, but it is a dining experience you will never forget.
We have been coming to Mirror Lake in for many many years and The View NEVER disappoints! We love all of the breakfast & dinner options. Not to mention the atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous and the staff is absolutely amazing!
Restaurant manager went above and beyond to accommodate me with a baby sleeping i was unable to come down to retrieve my food, they were exceptionally kind for doing so.
We had a really wonderful experience at The View. We went to celebrate our one year anniversary of living in the Adirondacks. Caleb was our waiter and he was friendly and attentive, but not hovering. The appetizers and mains were excellent and the dessert was good. The only thing we noticed is the background music was pretty low and could have been a bit louder because the dining room seemed a little too quiet. Overall, a fantastic evening and we will definitely be back.
We came here to celebrate our first year anniversary and the restaurant staff, specially Zachary, made sure our dinner and celebration was unforgettable. Would recommend to anyone celebrating a special occasion in Lake Placid!
Our server, Shannon, was absolutely fantastic. The food was very good and the wine list was quite extensive. All of the food was of the very highest quality. But, the best was the service. Really appreciated!
In a region not especially filled with top-notch dining, the dining room at the Mirror Lake Inn -- aka The View -- stands out. It is excellent - my favorite restaurant in Lake Placid. Food is consistently very good to excellent - they totally know what they're doing in the kitchen. The menu always has lots of great choices. Wait staff is solicitous, friendly, and professional. The atmosphere of the dining is gracious, perhaps falling just shy of elegant (no doubt in deference to the overall casual nature of the Adirondacks), and blessedly quiet. Wine list is excellent. The View IS pricey -- no getting around that. But we have eaten here many times, and we have enjoyed every meal unreservedly. We will, without doubt, be eating here in the future. Highly recommended. If you are celebrating a special occasion or are simply looking for an excellent dinner, The View is a great choice
Came here to celebrate a milestone birthday over the weekend and everything was absolutely perfect! Atmosphere, our waitress, service and even a surprise birthday photo momento and a complimentary dessert of macaroons. Being a new parent of twins this was the first outing my spouse and I have had since the our babies were born, and it was a really beautiful time getting to reconnect over amazing wine and food. Thank you so much to our waitress Katie for a lovely evening and to everyone at The View. Your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed. This is our second time dining here and we look forward to coming back for another date night when we visit Lake Placid again. I had a wonderful birthday celebration.
Should have left this review long ago: Fiddlehead ferns and fish dinner was excellent. As food should always be when buying away from home. But all too often isn't. Service was excellent. As all service should be when eating out, but usually isn't. I wish eating out was always a good experience like this, but so rarely is.
Fantastic place to celebrate a special occasion! The restaurant staff goes above and beyond to facilitate and provide patrons with an outstanding experience. We were greeted at the door with a hot towel. Shown to our table near a window which had beautiful views of Mirror Lake and surrounding mountains. Highly recommend the Chilean Sea Bass! Roughly 100$ a person excluding drinks, but if you're trying to celebrate a special occasion in Lake Placid, this is your spot!
Went for breakfast a couple of months ago during our stay and returned again this week when back in town. The last visit was even better thanks to the service from Nigel, who truly made our day!
Food was refined and delicious. Had the daily special duck appetizer, highly recommend. The salmon entree was simple but superb, and the filet mignon was cooked PERFECTLY and cut like butter. Apple crumble had tasty ginger ice cream with it - honestly, would have just been happy with the ice cream! Very pleased with our dining experience, our waitress Amber was really lovely. Prices reflect the quality of the meal.
From the greeting of the staff at the check in desk to the service, this was a great place to dine! Nigel was top notch as my server. He was super friendly and went out of his way to be sure I had everything I needed. The food was excellent and I didn’t have to wait to receive my meal. The restaurant name lives up to the hype, as “the view” was excellent indeed, overlooking the lake. Above all I would highly recommend coming here - if not for the food, but the very friendly and outgoing staff. Their professionalism and attention to detail made my experience top-notch. I would absolutely return.
We came for my mom’s birthday dinner and had an outstanding experience. Our waiter was so personable and attentive, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was just perfect. It was a snowy night and the view was warm and inviting. I wish I could remember our waiters name but regretfully, I do not. He was 10/10 though.
Dined in the Wikoff Room. The views were spectacular with our table by the windows overlooking the lake. The wait staff were fantastic. They were knowledgeable on menu and wines. They were not hovering but knew when to be at table which is refreshing. Appetizers were Lobster Bisque which had plenty of pieces of fresh lobster in it and had a wonderful bisque. Also had shrimp cocktail. Shrimp tender and not overcooked. Pleasant horseradish cocktail sauce that had a decent amount of horseradish in it - not too weak but not overpowering. Bread basket had a great variety of choices. Fresh and plenty for the two of us. Main dish Saffron Lobster Tonnarelli with plenty of lobster and the pasta is house made. I snuck a few bites of pasta and you know it’s homemade. Also, Filet of Beef that was done to my perfection. Beef was tender, potatoes light and creamy with vegetables. I was really impressed with the delicate vegetables that were just right and the potato puree that was light as a cloud but you could savor the wonderful taste of potato. The wine selection is wonderful. We had a glass of the Sauvignon Blanc Salt River and Pinot Noir Zorzal Gran Terroir, Mendoza. Dessert was a maple cheesecake which was light and creamy. Not the NY-type which is denser. The Crème Brûlée was crunchy on outside and creamy on the inside. Added fresh fruit was nice. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal and were reflecting on how many restaurants in the upstate NY area would be able to compete with the food and service. Not many so will definitely be back.
This was easily the best dining experience we’ve ever had. From the minute we were greeted at the front door with warm towels we had incredible service. The atmosphere was very classy and the restaurant was beautifully decorated. Stacey was our server and took excellent care of us. She was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was INCREDIBLE to say the least. The steak was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. They added personal touches to our menu and dessert to make our anniversary special. Highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back.
For those looking for a high-end restaurant experience, this is a perfect venue. It was a pleasant surprise seeing my family name on the menu! Truly flattering and well-appreciated! The view of the lake is quite spectacular! The vantage point is as good as it gets. Everything on the menu list is selected with a great deal of attention to details. The chicken is local. The beef is from Argentina, pork from a local NY farm. The maple cheesecake is made with local maple syrup (and maple cotton candy!!!). Award-winning wine list! The pinot from Pike Road, Willamette, Oregon (one of the best pinots I’ve had: wonderfully aromatic - scents of wild berries, balanced taste - neutral ph, very pleasant but definitely dry) and the sauvignon blank (very well-balanced, a bit on the sweet side, good finish, lighter) from South River, South Africa were excellent as anticipated. Excellent service from our waiter Milosh!
Amazing dinner! 5 stars all the way! My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner and it truly felt special. Our waitress Kassondra was excellent…it felt like she went out of her way to make our dinner feel special, even concluding the meal with a photo of us. The wine selection was very impressive, no surprise they win awards for it. I had a really nice light red with blueberry and tea leaf flavors from the Finger Lakes Region. The fritter balls and carbonara appetizers were so delicious. The gnocchi was amazing! My husband really liked his braised beef cheek, said it was outstanding. A beautiful evening all around with a great view!
The service was impeccable. The food was delicious and the view was nice too. We ate there 2 nights in a row and enjoyed our meals both nights. There were different specials both nights. We were delighted with a special personalized welcome that was added to our menus.
Such a cute restaurant for a romantic dinner date when you are in the lake placid area. Even though the restaurant is not right on the lake, it has great views of mirror lake. The meal is served in 3 courses and uses many local ingredients. You don’t have to order all 3 courses if you’re not hungry though. The first and second courses were excellent. The final Entree dishes were huge and I probably could have just ordered one entree and been satisfied. The wine list is extensive and very good. Service was excellent as well.
What a lovely meal my wife and I shared at The View restaurant for our 30th anniversary dinner. Every meal was as Michelin worthy. Each course better than the last. Caleb, our server, 7th generation to Lake Placid was so kind, knowledgeable and attentive.
Absolutely superb dinner at The View! The restaurant itself is beautiful with a perfect view of Mirror Lake. The service was impeccable. Our meal was delicious! They even acknowledged my birthday with a surprise dessert with Happy birthday in chocolate! Perfect evening!
Five stars all the way! From the second we were greeted at the host table, to being sat and our orders taken to the food delivery and attention....just all amazing! I have a gluten and tree nut allergy so I ordered "off menu" and the chef was able to prepare something for my dietary restrictions. My Boyfriend got the Fish which was melt in your mouth perfect and fresh! We had dined the night before in town and it was so disappointing that we decided to "splurge" and treat ourselves to a quality meal at the Mirror Lake Inn. The Inn itself was decorated gorgeous, like out of a Hallmark movie so a lot of nice spots to get selfies or photos. We asked the host to take our photo in front of the Valentine's Day tree and he kindly obliged. We will be back! Also, PS - the Macaroons at the end of the meal were great and also gluten free which I appreciated!
Celebrated our engagement here! I love this place! The staff are very amazing, very accommodating. Food was good. For the price it’s not really worth it. But we just have the amazing experience here. Wish to come back here each season.
What a treat! Our family of five had a wonderful dinner experience at The View. The reception was over the top with hot refreshing towel service and personalized menus. We were seated at a window table for a beautiful view (it looks like the majority of tables have wonderful views). Our server, Riley, was courteous and genuine, seeking to make sure everyone had an enjoyable experience. I very much appreciated her attention to detail in remembering which of our party had allergies or dietary needs. The food itself was fantastic. I had all three courses: Gouda custard, risotto fritters, and chicken. The chicken, with za'ataar spices, was one of the absolute best I've ever had and I heartily recommend it. Excellent experience over all! Do make a reservation early. Parking was easy in the back (drive up the driveway on the left of the hotel).
Great place for a special dinner! They had cute touches, from our names on the menu to a photo to take home to remember the night. Everything was delicious and service was excellent.
Went here during winter and the food was incredible. I got the chicken and my wife the fish and it might have been the freshest food we’d had all year. Service was friendly and warm and the views of the lake frozen over were stunning.
We didn’t stay at the hotel but we ate at the restaurant. Food was delicious and the service was 10/10.

The name of this place says it all there is a beautiful view. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating. The venison pasta was wonderful. The risotto bites and foie gras were delicious. The golden hour cocktail was fabulous. Enjoyable place for a family birthday celebration.
Great restraunt located in Mirror Lake Inn. Service was perfect! The food was very good! The restraunt has a strict no cell phone use policywhich was great! Truly sets the tone of the place. The one thing I loved is how it was decorated differently from the Inn, allowing you to feel like you are in two different locations.
Fine dining at its best with real amazing food! Amazing and courteous staff. Cocktails are some of the best on mirror Lake! 4 and not 5 stars simply because the views were not really that spectacular, despite the name!
A very lovely New Year's Eve dinner, multi course with a free glass of real champange. Excellent seasoning, lovely prep and presentations by the kitchen on all of the meals. The wait staff were very attentive, polite, and personable. Great decorating for the holiday season made the room glow with a welcoming ambiance. The jazz trio was a great touch for New Year's Eve, too. My only complaint was though it was a fixed price for the evening per person—a small plate of angel hair pasta with butter and cheese (one of three choices on the kid's menu) was 54....YES...FIFTY FOUR DOLLARS. A 3.5 year old girl and her 54 dollar plate of pasta. Well okay, thrown in a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a chocolate milk. Hmmm...bit of a gourmet gouge going on here? Chef, I appreciate your work, and the experience is certainly a part of any dining, but that's outrageousness exemplified. It certainly isn't reasonable in any sense or sort. ( Our dinner for the four of us with tip came to 650.00, btw.) Otherwise, highly recommended. Happy New Year!!!
We had an amazing Christmas Eve dinner. 10/10, service, food, wine, decor, everything was perfect from start to end. A special Thank you to Teresa who was so great and took the time to take amazing pictures of us by the Christmas tree.
The service and ambiance were top notch. The dishes had great ingredients that were very fresh, but lacked a richness of flavor one would expect from the most prestigious restaurant in the area.
Very nice atmosphere. I visited during the holidays and the decor was very festive. The staff was professional and attentive. Unfortunately, I came for dinner and did not get to experience “the view”, but could see another hotel across the lake lit up for Christmas. The food seemed overpriced for what we were served. I would say they were charging nyc prices for Lake Placid results. I will say, my wife’s filet, which I stole a few bites of, was a 10/10. The rest of the meals were good but not spectacular. During my trip thus far, The View stands out as our best experience dining. We will see if this evening’s trip to Red Fox on Saranac Lake will trump it or not!
Beautiful interior, great service. We had the butter chicken karaage, ahi tuna tostada, venison Bolognese, and the special shrimp bucatini, side of brussel sprouts. Everything was good, though we had a few thoughts. The brussel sprout side was limitedly seasoned, would have preferred something with more added flavor than just the base brussel sprout. Old fashioned got diluted a bit too quickly due to the small ice chunks. We also noticed some of the hosts were frustrated with each other it was a bit awkward. Overall, enjoyable and tasty.
The atmosphere, service and special touches were very much appreciated. These extras made the experience worth it. Slightly disappointed in my salmon meal, it was too overwhelmed with balsamic and without it, it was boring. All of the other food was good though, perhaps it was an off night.
Stacy was our waitress and she was fantastic. The Mojito and Under the Stars (smoked) drink were a great start to the meal. We shared the Gouda Custard salad which was fantastic as a light appetizer. For the second course we had the Risotto Fritters and Bucatini. The fritters were crispy and delicious. The Bucatini was a little plain in flavor and the noodles were a little overcooked. For the third course, we had the Certified Sustainable Chilean Sea Bass and the Ricotta Gnocchi which were both excellent. For dessert we had the Vanilla Creme Brulee and the Lemon Budino (which we good later as we had them to go). Overall a great view of the lake, exceptional service and good food!
Beautiful place. Very warm and comfortable. The set up and service are amazing. The staff was delightful. The food itself was a bit disappointing, the first course was ok. The second we had the duck tortellini and fried rizzoto both were very bland and under seasoned. The last course we had the steak fillet and chicken, the steak was under seasoned but the chicken was very good. Over all the service was amazing but the food not so much. With a very hefty price tag.

Lovely setting and lovely service but unfortunately the food was average. Very expensive for average food. We would not go back. Also none of our four meals were hot! My chicken was overdone and cold. The steak was tender and the pot roast was tasty but the meat was a bit hard.
My husband and I went here as one our first meals on our honeymoon. The view, service, and cleanliness were great. The food was just ok- we had the chicken and gnocchi. For all the awards and level of fine dining, we were expecting better. We ended up having much better meals at other area restaurants.
My wife and i felt welcomed to the restaurant. Everyone working their was very nice and friendly. But the down side, our Chicken entrée and beef cheek entrée was not good. Left disappointed about the food.
We came in with a reservation for a birthday dinner, chose this location specifically because they were rated extremely well for service. Initially everything was very nicely presented and paced, but after our first round of cocktails sat empty for much longer than we'd like our server finally came and took an order for the next round. We sat and watched as she bounced between her 2-3 other tables for about 15 minutes before she came back and asked again if we'd like to order another round. After she realized her mistake we waited another 15 minutes for drinks to arrive. My cocktail was not as specified, and although it was a slightly modified order we'd like to think that a restaurant with an $80 filet on the menu would be able to accommodate adding an ingredient to a martini. We finished dinner and watched her walk by our empty table with empty cocktails, empty plates and empty waters for about 15 minutes before we were offered a dessert menu. We just wanted the leave at that point and asked for a check. Surprise! We waited another 15 minutes or so before we received the bill. We sat for a total of 2 hours and were actively eating and drinking for about 45 minutes. The food was good, not necessarily worth the price but certainly a nice meal. My husband had so many bones in his salmon that he resorted to mashing it up and picking them all out before he could eat his entree. He pulled out more than 10 and spit the rest into his napkin. We couldn't have told anyone if we'd wanted to because nobody checked on us while we were eating. Our server was very sweet and very kind but the service was not on point for a two top with a $200 tab. Along with the long wait for drinks and the check the only table touch the entire meal was when my husband's entree was already cleared by support staff and mine sat half-finished waiting for a box. They did do an excellent job recognizing the occasion with a personalized letter, a photo after the meal and two complimentary macarons. I'd like to think our server was just having an off night and give her some grace, but as someone with nearly 20 years in the industry I was deeply unimpressed overall and would not recommend this restaurant. Even my thoroughly mild and easy-going husband was surprised by how poor the quality of service was. This is one of maybe three times in my life I've ever left less than 25-30%. Tl;Dr - overall the experience lacked the high-end service boasted by the website that would have made the price point worthwhile and we certainly would not recommend.
I really wanted to like this place! I went here with my husband for our 5th wedding anniversary. It is trying to be fine dining, but the service and some menu items surely miss the mark. My husband ordered a bottle of champagne to surprise me upon arrival when he made the reservation, and it was no where to be found when we sat. Our server felt rushed every time she came over, and waters and beverages remained empty through an entire course. By the time our second round arrived, our meals were being cleared. Don’t get me wrong, some food items were excellent. The burrata salad, risotto fritters and filet were out of this world. However, the gnocchi was heavy and greasy and gouda custard just meh. For the cost of some of the portions, I expected the food to make me want to come back. Unfortunately, there are plenty of places in Lake Placid where the food is just as good, and service is worlds better, and you won’t have to spend $200 a person for it.
We booked a week in advance for our 40th anniversary dinner while staying at Mirror Lake Inn. We loved breakfast at The View but our anniversary dinner was disappointing. The food was good, the price, quality and quantity what you would expected from a high end resort restaurant. The disappointing part was the atmosphere and attention to our present. They tried to make the evening special by putting our name and 40th Anniversary on our menu, the special evening ended there. We were seated in the center of a room with a loud group table behind us, one row away from a window table, or in a quieter area of the restaurant. The waiter was pleasant and somewhat attentive given he had the large group behind us to deal with. In general, service was ok, the food was ok but definitely not what we expected and felt we were treated better at a restaurant in town the night before our anniversary. I would definitely recommended staying at Mirror Lake Inn, but would not recommended The View for dinner and especially not a special dinner.
The view is a classic! Menu choices were limited last week. I had the shrimp with white beans, olives and Caper berries. While I love each of the ingredients in this dish, it was a salt bomb when combined. There was a miniscule amount of white beans and the sauce was watery. It just didn’t work. The beef cheeks was very good. Salad was fresh and dressed lightly. The pate was lovely and the pasta appetizer with truffle was nondescript. We skipped dessert and had ice wine. It was yummy. The restaurant was not what it was in Fall of 2020. Service was kind, warm and friendly. Bar staff was great and the cocktails were good.
The View aspires to be fine dining, but unfortunately it misses the mark on a few dimensions, especially after dark. To be brief, the food was the highlight, the ambience and service were lacking. I can see how the ambience may be spectacular before sunset. However, on a fall evening when the sun had set early-ish, it was dim, vacant, and cold in atmosphere as well as temperature. The room layout is sort of bizarre after dark, it feels like a hallway, but it's not hard to see how during daylight it maximizes the views. As for the service, our waitress was sincere and friendly but clearly undertrained in regards to the food, the wine list, and frankly the polish needed to be a top notch restaurant. I don't enjoy writing that because she seemed like a lovely person, she was just put in a position that she would not be successful without proper training. That's the restaurant's fault not hers.
Good entrees, poor appetizers, mediocre value for the price. We were not able to eat in due to COVID so we ordered two appetizers, two entrees, and a dessert for takeout. The meat and cheese plate appetizer only had 3 small slices of sausage and no other meats. That's hardly a shareable MEAT and cheese plate. The local greens plate was simply a romaine mix with a couple cherry tomatoes. It looked like it came out of a bag from the grocery store. This was a very underwhelming start to the meal. We ordered the chicken and salmon entrees. Those were both very good and flavorful. For dessert, we had the flourless chocolate cake, which was also very good. They included 20% gratuity for takeout. I can not understand how that's justified for food that is put in plastic containers and thrown in a bag to wait for pickup. Overall, my expectations were very high for this restaurant as it is touted as the best in Lake Placid but I felt that the quality of the meal did not justify the $160+ price for a dinner for two without drinks.
An amazing place for a resort like breakfast. Very nice! The dinner is very disappointing though. The food is subpar at best. Not kid friendly at all. We got a lot of nasty looks from boomers because my 2 year old speaks loudly. This place is empty after their left Hyatt.
The food was pretty good. It was certainly not in any way justified of the prices. And some of it was working really way too hard. For example my duck tortellini as my middle course... Five tortellini in brodo, which were all a little undercooked. The pork cheeks were amazing. But there were three small pork cheeks and served with grits. Not exactly what I'm looking for when I get a $200 bill for one person. Very convenient while I was staying at the hotel. But I'm not sure I would repeat.
I was grateful for a reservation last weekend when we were visiting Lake Placid. It has always been a special place for my husband and I. But we noticed the serving size has gone down and prices up. I ordered the foie gras appetizer which there were two tiny morsels for 24. The rest of the meal was fine but when I told the waiter (who was OK) he just said "I'll mention it to the chef" and that was the last I ever heard of anything about it. Its just meh for the price now so we'll probably skip it next time due to the aloof attitude.
Mixed reviews among our party on the View. The food was fine, but didn't match the prices. Good reviews on the pork cheek; mediocre on the salmon. Delicious dessert, but not for $18. The biggest issue was the welcome message touting the owners' commitment to sustainability, then the featured dish of Chilean sea bass, which outside of orange roughy, is just about the least sustainable fish you could serve. I'm guessing this incongruity is due to differences in ethos of the owners vs the chef, but if you're going to go with a chef that serves chilean sea bass (which admittedly guests don't have to choose if they don't wish), don't then try a sustainability message to diners as a welcome. It kind of ruined the mood (at least for one of us) for the rest of the dinner.

Disappointing room service for Mirror Lake Inn. The food - particularly the gnocchi - waere average at best and the prices were very high.
Service was great people were nice and friendly. However the food was lacking. The beef filet was excellent and cooked to perfection, however extremely over priced. The shrimp remalade was extremely spicy and almost inedible. Chicken was dry and overly herby. All in all, disappointed, expensive, and would not go back or recommend.
Wait staff are friendly but it is difficult understanding the dialect of the host and some servers. The host has the option of seating us in a choice, central location but instead seats us in a less optimal location. We ask for the center location with the best view and we get repositioned there. Not certain why we were not offered that table in the first place. The primary reason for the low rating is we are disappointed when presented the menu and told that only a 3 course fixed prix meal is available. When the reservation was booked several months ago there was no indication there would be a change from the published menu. Further, the Inn sent multiple e-mail communications regarding our upcoming stay and never mentioned changes to dining options. We give pushback over the fixed prix menu but no alternatives are offered. Considering the restaurant has a 24 hour cancellation policy with a credit card on file, leaving the restaurant at this point isn't a viable option. We are presented a "...basket of hot breads with salted butter..." that is the most uninspired dinner bread I've ever experienced. Slices of soft white and wheat bread that is doughy and tasteless! My wife's meal is served barely above room temperature. Wait staff is inattentive and by the time they become aware we are not happy we are not interested in pursuing a correction. Based on this experience the staff are friendly but difficult to understand and seem to lack good customer service skills. Food is uninspired and there is poor quality control of plating to serve the food hot.
The restaurant is fancy. You feel special with your surname written on the menu and the host welcomes you well and gives you hot freshen towels. The waitress was kind. But, menu is weird and weak. You leave hungry for paying expensive bad food. They have to change the menu. Beef cheak was not good and it is fat meat. Remove that from the menu. We hardly have chosen what to eat. Small portions and they are not tasty. New menu: Choose dishes tasty with less price. Over all: Disappointed because of the food!
We were very disappointed with food and service . Food was tasteless and very very expensive. The server did not understand English. The desert was an embarrassment (worst cheese cake with cotton candy piece on the side). Do not recommend.
Our food wasn’t the greatest. The pasta in two of the dishes was hard. I understand some meals require el dente but it was too hard. One meal came out completely wrong from what was ordered. The ceasar salad barely had any dressing on it at all. When I asked for a cappuccino at the end of the evening with my desert, the waitress said “well it’ll take a long time but I can get you one.” Not worth the price at all.
Did not see this anywhere like website or open table, but we were turned away at 8am on a Saturday for not staying at the resort, when I didn’t see a single table occupied. turning away business when you’re at zero capacity outside rush hour doesn’t seem smart. At least advertise this better.
The worst experience I’ve ever had. The manager, Nicole Dunford, should be fired since she does not know how to manage. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if you are a foodie and have been to other truly high rated restaurants.
I called to see if they had reservations for breakfast. They said it was first come, first served. I showed up with my family to be told breakfast was for hotel guests only. Looked nice, just needs better communication/service.
We were working in the area and stopped at the Cottage restaurant for lunch. I ordered the Chipotle Caesar Salad. For $9.00 extra I decided to add shrimp. The Shrimp cocktail was also on the menu and boasted 6 JUMBO shrimp for $18. So I understood I would be getting 3 JUMBO shrimp. These shrimp were by far less than jumbo. I would go as far as to say medium at best. I wish I would have taken a picture a the three small shrimp on top of the large salad. It looked pitiful. Very disappointed for the price. I have no problem paying for quality, but this was just a grab at the wallet. The view was stunning and the atmosphere was nice and the salad was good despite the lack of shrimp, but I will not return. Thank you.
Made a reservation for an early family dinner (4 people) at the view 5:30pm. The restaurant was barely staffed and the food ( pork shank, salmon and pasta all pretty much awful) ordered the check after the appetizer, still took 1 hr and half to finally get the main course. This was an abomination of fine dining.
I can not believe this facility!!!! What a disgusting disgusting service. The manager Nicole Dunforf should be fired!!! We walked in 10 minutes later than their 10 min late policy (that no one told us about) and they told us to leave, they will not sit us. I have never ever experienced anything like this. How can a manager not sit 2 families with kids ? Most costumers there are tourists and it took us 10 min to find the place due to lack of signs on their part. There was no one waiting behind us and tables were empty! This manager showed complete disregard and care to the costumer. I would never recomend this place. I don’t want to spend money in a place that staffs complete snobs.
Sorry - but just don’t dine here. You might get lucky and get a good waiter — but honestly we had one of the worst experiences in my life. It’s really unfortunate, because we dined here two years ago and really enjoyed it, but this time was the polar opposite. Our waiter, Matthew, was really nice. But after taking our order, not once did he come to refill our water, or refill our champagne. All the bottles just sat there on the sill or ice bucket. When the plates were cleared after the first course, the bus person accidentally dropped a knife on my wife’s lap. When Matthew came back with the second course, we had to point out that two of us had no utensils. When he came back with the third course, we had to put an empty bottle that had been sitting on the table for an hour in order for him to realize we would like it taken away. He never checked in to ask if we needed anything, just long weird pauses between seeing, versus the table beside us who had an experienced waiter that continually checked on them along with the manager. I genuinely don’t know where Matthew went, and although he always seemed nice whenever we spotted him, his lack of common sense was just crazy. And don’t order the gnocchi. 3 of 4 of us did, and no one ate more than 20% of their dish (which again, a waiter with common sense would have noticed.) it was doused in a heavy oil/butter sauce, and then partially fried, and heavy. Not a light and fluffy gnocchi like you might expect from a restaurant that mentions it’s homemade. I really regret tipping 20% especially on such a large bill. We’ve eaten at so many places in Lake Placid over the years but the experience and cost here was just a total disappointment.
The view of the lake and the decor are awesome. The breakfast buffet was not worth it. The bagels were plain and felt and tasted like they were a couple of days old. Not much of a variety on the buffet. The service wasn’t very good either for an upscale white table cloth dining experience. Our waitress Adrian was condescending and rushed us out like she was either at the end of her shift or she thought we were were not going to pay our check. Either way it was not a good experience.
NOT KID FRIENDLY I would have rather spend the $400 in a restaurant where kids are allowed to simply talk and not be shushed every 30 minutes by the “manager”…terrible experience Don’t bring your kids there for dinner
Service was extremely below average. Definitely not the white tablecloth service they are trying to give the impression of. Server didn’t know the menu, didn’t clear between courses, didn’t replenish our water glasses. The restaurant was nearly empty and the server walked by our table repeatedly and still dropped courses without clearing silverware or filling out empty glasses. It was strange honestly. There was a no cell phone policy and the place was very quite. The service just didn’t match the environment or the menu. I’ve had better service at diners honestly. The food was plated well, hot, fresh and balanced. But it felt uncomfortable to enjoy a 4 course meal when you are sitting at a dirty table and pouring your own bottle of water while your server just glances by. I know service has changed since the pandemic, but they have a strict dress code and reservation policy. $50 per person once you reserve, cannot cancel or reschedule. Also a dress code. How can you hold your guests to a higher standard than your staff. Such an unfortunate experience. The cost of the menu with the poor service was a waste of money and time.
Had very awful experience. Level of service is very low. We were guests of the mirror lake inn hotel and asked for a table, and although the restaurant was empty (and remained partly empty for most of the night), they have told us no table available because it’s a reservation only restaurant and reservation window was already closed. Then the advice we got from the manager is that we will be able to order a take out annd eat in the hotel lobby, but they had to send the food to our room. With no room for flexibility they sent the food to our room and made us carry the food back from our room to the lobby (they even didn’t allow us to use the room service cart so we had to carry it back ourselves). The outcome was ridiculously expensive cold and not tasty food. Worth mention they still charged us 19% gratuity for torturing us… I do not recommend to go there and would never go there again and will let all of the people I know not to go to this hotel nor this restaurant. They need to learn to treat their guests better.
I’m not sure what happened to this restaurant. I’ve been going to restaurants since 1979 in Lake Placid. This was my favorite and now it’s my least favorite. The Reuben was very strange open faced with coleslaw and the meat was like hard. It made me extremely sick I had to pull my car over into the woods. I was very ill after eating it and probably should’ve gone to urgent care, but I was not near one. The price on the menu was lower than what they charged me on all my food that I ordered. I would not recommend this restaurant anymore . The food was not good. The new boy greeter was the most pleasant person there, but the prices were changed on my receipt on everything I ordered. Extremely disappointed
