Great hidden gem
5 stars for sure!
Beautiful atmosphere and exceptional food. Definitely worth the drive from Mammoth Lakes.
Very professional, a beautiful and warm atmosphere, the wine was absolutely delicious
excellent place to stop and eat. The Mono Inn burger is one of the best I've ever had.
Fabulous food and service. Beautiful view of the lake....and lots of hummingbirds! A gem
Great restaurant, food was amazing. Service was great. Views were out of this world
Incredible restaurant and fine dining experience in an unexpected location.
A truly unique gem in a remote location; worth going out of your way to visit.
Excellent food for a reasonable price. A must try spot if you’re in the area.
Fabulous food! Amazing views! Really great service.
Wonderful place on HWY 395. Delicious food and excellent service. This is a proper place for dining.
Great food, service, delightful dining room and a view that is beyond compare.
Great service, amazing view, cozy atmosphere and tasty food of course
Excellent from app to main! View is fabulous! Service was good and helpful.
Awesome meal, awesome views, awesome chef, have to order the avocado toast.....
Awesome!! Really glad we stopped.
Great food. The owners are so nice.
Marvelous food, the flavors are always exquisitely balanced!
Just go! Great food, staff, and location.
Best meal , best service ! By far best experience ! Must do 💯
Awesome views good and service!! Highly recommend.
Ambiance and food are top notch!
Great people. Great food. Great view.
Great food with a beautiful view. The chef creates delicious French inspired dishes. Good service.
Outstanding service and dinner. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Finally made a reservation after years of driving past and was not disappointed. Highly recommended.
Almost full moon rising over Mono Lake, fabulous food, great service and good friends. Mono Inn is the place to dine for a memorable experience.
The food was excellent! The staff was professional and friendly. It was a wonderful dinner! I highly recommend them!
This is hands down the best dining experince that I have ever had. The food is AMAZING! I have no words for the brilliance of this resturant.
timeless grapes flows slip of the sun looms over lake chefs' touch butterflies
New owner, new chef. Stunning view. Warm service. Delicious and often distractingly good food.
One of the primier dining spots in Eastern Sierra. Unmatched views of Mono Lake, and if you like bird watching while you have supper, this is your spot. The two sisters that run this place clearly have done this as a labor of love. Hate to sound gushie, but this really is a 5-star restaurant. And yes, the food is delicious
The Mono Inn is an absolute must stop location. You will be amazed by the exceptional food and great menu selection. The service is friendly and efficient. Amazing jaw dropping views of Mono Lake. Wonderful atmosphere.
We had dinner here - the food was excellent and very friendly and helpful owners! Everything was delicious, but especially the Bison pasta special. Will definitely return next time we are near Mono Lake!
Shared dinner there with a friend last week....only the second time i've been there, as they over 2 1/2 hrs. away. Even so, AWESOME!! Wonderful, friendly service and the food is to die for. Get over there and try the WATERMELON PANZANELLA before the season is over. Also had the pork tenderloin with red onion gravy and veggies--they do wonderful things with veggies, and usually, this is the part of the meal i skip. Lovely view of the lake, great food and helpful, friendly service--dont change a thing!! (but ok with me if you add more menu items!!) :)
I have eaten here during several summer vacations. The menu is on par with fine restaurants in New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas, London... The two creative cooks are sisters who have created a dining experience with an unpretentious elegance.
We have been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile. We had an amazing experience here. The food was absolutely delicious! The service was fabulous and the view of Mono Lake was beautiful! We will be back!
I dined here for the first time & im so happy I did. The restaurant itself is lovely, the staff friendly and the food delicious. The desserts were amazing! It's a new favorite.
this place now has a high end fixed price menu. it is a little pricey at $85 but it is truly exceptional. we never expected something like this in Lee Vining. it couldn't have been better.
Great dinner and deserts and Lonna and Debbie are wonderful hosts. The building itself has a unique history and also has a local art gallery. Definitely a place to have dinner
Absolutely fantastic. The tasting menu was delicious - every course. Staff and service amazing and the view spectacular!! Highly recommend.
Excited to get back out to eating after all the quarantine craziness and this place did not disappoint, the chicken sandwich was phenomenal and the women working were extremely friendly. Highly recommend stopping if you get the chance!
Fantastic Birthday brunch!! Everything was top notch! Highly recommended!! Will share my experience! Fabulous
Delicious food, pleasant ambience and friendly staffs. Place has brilliant view of mono lake. Definitely would visit again.
What a nice surprise to find this little gourmet gem in the rough of the eastern Sierra Nevada! We very much enjoyed the tasting, a 7-course offering of beautifully prepared and delicious small portions. I’m not a foodie, but I have to say that these dishes and the paired wines were so expertly composed with complex yet also complimentary tastes …yes, I wanted more of each, but at the same time I eagerly anticipated what was to come. I’m thankful to learn that food can be so good! And, the service and spectacular sunset scenery overlooking Mono Lake are unparalleled. Thanks for a perfect night out and a memorable dining experience!
I recently dined at Mono Inn and for $85 a person, the five-course menu was genuinely impressive. The chef was clearly aiming high, and it showed in every dish. While it wasn't quite a Michelin star experience, it's definitely on the path to a Michelin recommendation. Worth a visit if you appreciate an ambitious menu at a reasonable price. Would I come back? Yes, looking forward to it!
Absolutely incredible meal! They only offer the tasting menu but were able to accommodate my vegetarian husband day-of (call first to check though, for last minute dietary restrictions). Sometimes you get expensive tasting menus and farm to table and it just doesn't taste good... but don't worry, every single bite was amazing! Unique flavor combinations, amazing and attentive service, beautiful views of Mono Lake, and a cozy vibe without any of the pretention I often associate with restaurants or this caliber. I highly recommend for any special occasion or trip to the eastern Sierra Nevadas.
In brief: The Mono Inn offers a wonderful dining room with an amazing view and attentive and engaging staff serving delicious and interesting food. Simply the best at what they do. We are already planning a return visit when we vacation again next year.
I am thrilled that we have Mono Inn on the Eastside. First, time your reservation with sunset! The views are spectacular and the ambience fits the natural beauty vibe perfectly -- simple yet classy. The food is excellent -- the menu creatively celebrates what the seasons have to offer with top-notch execution and presentation. Finally, the service is outstanding, from making a reservation to the dining experience itself -- attentive yet unhurried; you truly feel taken care of. We came here for my husband's birthday and the setting, food, and service definitely made it a special night to remember.
Lana and Debbie are two sisters that run the inn. They work very hard to deliver a great experience. The place is small and casual with panoramic views of Mono Lake and the mountains. The Inn is well cared for and tastefully decorated with locally influenced art and furnishings. The food is amazing. The braised bison short ribs and gnocchi was ridiculously good. They were good to my kids too and made them a plain pasta dish. The wine was outstanding and the desserts were amazing. All super fresh ingredients and great cooking. I would definitely go again.
New owner since January 2015. Lana (the owner) is a delight and the food prepared by Chef Kenny is extraordinary. He prepared a delicious vegetarian meal for me even though it wasn't on the menu! My dinner mate said his pork chop was one of the best ever. The chef makes his own rubs and reductions and the results are excellent. Everyone raves about the restaurant at the gas station on 120 at 395 but the historic Mono Inn deserves the same accolades, and the setting is 100 times nicer. The restaurant itself is right above Mono Lake and the views from the dining room are spectacular. I love the interior design too. The building is owned by the descendants of famed photographer Ansel Adams. A stone fireplace anchors one wall, and huge windows provide the view. Classic Stickley furnishings in oak complete the romantic setting. Beer and wine bar, outdoor seating in season. Highly recommended!
The location is perfect. It was nice to be able to dine while the sunset was ongoing over the lake. I liked the idea of garnishing the bonemarrow with salmon eggs. It matched perfectly. The tomahawk stake was delicious. The waiters are kind and welcoming. I would definitely recomend this place and most definitely will go back here and enjoy a meal there when I come back to this place.
Amazing!! Cannot say enough about this place, the food is phenomenal, the view is spectacular, and the service is excellent! The bar tender is by far one of the BEST I have ever encountered, crafting unique and tantalizing cocktails. I have a gluten allergy and they have also been able to accommodate my dietary needs. Wonderful restaurant!
My significant other and I had dinner there in late June. The weather was perfect for dining out and watching the sunset over Mono Lake. Staff was extremely attentive and amenable when the temperatures cooled off and we wanted to finish dining inside. Food is fabulous and the wait staff are professional and courteous. Wonderful place to end the evening watching the sunset over the mountains. Go there and enjoy the view and cuisine.
We've now eaten here several times, after hiking nearby. Have always been accommodated, even without reservations. Since they have a small staff, promptness of seating & service is variable, but we've found it very friendly & capable. The food is both unusual (game, for instance) and excellent. The setting is gorgeous, especially if it's warm enough to sit outside and watch the changing light over Mono Lake and the antics of all the hummingbirds.
Spectacular 5 course menu. Servers explained about each dish as served with the chef coming out when dessert was served. Service was impeccable. The atmosphere and view of mono lake is an experience not to miss.
Off the beaten path but well worth the trip. 5 stars is short of accurate only because there’s not an option for 6.
Every region a higher-end restaurant and for the Mono Basin, this is it. In Lee Vining you have the choice between a coffee shop, a restaurant next door, a deli/grill, and the Mono Inn. Each serves its role well and at the higher end, you can't beat eh Mono Inn for the food or the view. As other reviewers have noted, arrive before sunset for a treat, as Mono Lake has consistently excellent sunsets. That's particularly true on the evenings before, during or after a full moon night, as the moon rises close to the same time that sunset is underway. There is outdoor patio seating you can really enjoy the view from on a mild summer evening. In spite of the enthusiasm expressed for the restaurant, it's useful to note that there's a very nice bar as well, and the restaurant has an excellent wine list, the most extensive and well-selected in the area. I tend to pick the wine I want to have first, then select a meal to match, and on my last visit I was pleasantly surprised to see a hard-to-find Sean Thackery Rhone-style blend on the wine list. The price seemed reasonable compared to what you might pay for it in the Bay Area or Los Angeles area. Being a bit of a wine fan, that will bring me back to a restaurant faster than also-excellent food. The restaurant is only open during the spring through fall seasons when most people visit the area, so call ahead if you might be visiting outside of their open dates. This place can be popular, so particularly on weekends you might want to arrive a little on the early side to avoid waiting to get seated.
We had the best dinner a week ago, just after it reopened with new owners. Every part of our experience was absolutely wonderful. The service was exceptional. We received complimentary champagne to celebrate our anniversary. My meal was just extraordinary- I started with the beet, arugula, and pear salad. Wow! Then I had yellowfin tuna crudo with avocado and orange slices-again Wow!My husband had steak tartare and the duck breast, both of which he said was the best ever. We had panna cotta and the parsnip cake for dessert. Again, both were outstanding. The parsnip cake is delightfully spicy and the panna cotta is just like you find in Italy. Everyone really cared that we enjoyed our dinner and evening. I can’t recommend Mono Inn highly enough.
Excellent surprise. All dishes were tasty and perfectly cooked. Price reasonable. The outdoor seating offers great views of mono lake. Frieny service too. Really nice.
We loved the food and cocktails so much that we returned a week later! The Mono Inn is unsuspecting from the road. As you descend into the dining room, extraordinary views of Mono Lake greet you - followed by a meal that outcompetes that of any Michelin restaurant in San Francisco. Their local and seasonal menu is designed with the utmost creativity and care. The staff and owner, Hilary, are down to earth, friendly, and knowledgeable. Rather than a stiff and polite atmosphere known for many fine dining establishments, I felt just as comfortable in my “fancy jeans” as I did my leggings after a day spent climbing. What an extraordinary experience! My husband and I can’t wait to return. The Hamachi crudo was to die for: my husband isn’t a raw fish fan and even he loved it. The salmon entree was my favorite.
This place was incredible. We accidentally stumbled upon it while visiting mono lake from Yosemite and it was one of the highlights of our trip and a meal to remember. Everything was delicious, creative, and thoughtful. Would love to come back here again
We had a wonderful experience dining here in March — sunset view of the lake, beautiful interior, professional staff, and of course delicious food. Will definitely plan a return trip!
Unbelievably delicious meal and old-world service. A very special night out. This chef is top shelf: handmade pasta in truffle sauce with mushrooms. Tender duck, with fruit. Abfab desserts. Make sure you plan your drive through Mono Lake on a Friday through Monday.
Food is excellent, the chef creates an imaginative, seasonal menu. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and artfully presented. A meal here is several levels above what you typically find in the Eastern Sierra. And then there's the view: the sunset view of Mono Lake, volcanoes, and the White Mts, 70 miles distant are sublime. Food and views are both deserving of 5 stars.
One of the best meals I’ve had this year. Quiet night in off season, they made me a custom vegetarian dish, and Wow! Salad, entree and dessert were all fantastic. Highly recommend and will come back next time I’m within 50 miles.
First, this was the best food I've had in a long while; I also had an excellent drink, the Captain Tom cocktail. Gnocchi with mushrooms and truffle cream sauce made my eyes roll back in my head, and the duck was perfectly cooked. Often, it's easy to make duck too sweet or gamey; this was well balanced and melted in my mouth. The service was also attentive and excellent, with our friendly waitress asking us where we were from, and checking in constantly. They sat us near a window when we expressed some concern about eating indoors, although the COVID numbers for the county are very low. Why are you still reading this? Go!
One of the best restaurants I've ever visited. The lake view from the dining room is spectacular, the staff friendly and attentive, the menu ever-changing. The ingredients are fresh and mostly local, and the preparation is flawless. Can't wait to visit again!
Hidden gem! This place is worth it to drive here even from LA to experience the whole range of flavors. Every bite was mouthwatering. Service was professional and the whole atmosphere is taking you out of real life. Worming fireplace and the stunning view to the lake! Try to catch the sunset and you will be amazed! What else do we need?! 😄
With great ambience overlooking the beautiful Mono lake, this is your must stop. A true gem, nestled just north of June Lake, in Lee Vining, provided an unforgettable fine dining experience. Locally sourced ingredients, impeccable service, and a chef with culinary know how are the stand out factors for my review. But it doesn't end there. This restaurant withstands the test of time by serving experiences for 100 years. Enjoy your meal downstairs, but also be sure to head up to the second floor, where you can enjoy a rich library of cook books, appreciate local artist displays, and my favorite, an antique square grand piano. Rich in flavor & history, the Mono Inn is truly a landmark of the Eastern Sierras. Can't wait to return with my family.
We stumbled upon this restaurant on Nov 26, 2023. This restaurant has a weekly fixed 5-course tasting menu. The food presentation, the excellent explanation of how each course was prepared by Jason, the chef, the insane food that made me wanting to have broccoli cheese soup everyday if it’s as good as Jason’s, the tuna , duck and waygu beef were perfect, the freshness of the food, everything was just brilliantly done. This restaurant surprised us. We highly recommend it!
An unexpected treat to find a menu this creative and refined in Lee Vining. The restaurant has switched to a price fixe menu since the last menu photos were posted on google. It is well worth the price, every dish was outstanding. The wagyu was melt in your mouth tender. The canapés and dessert bites were fun and delicious. Thoughtful wine list selections. The view, decor, and ambiance fit the setting perfectly.
What a gem! We had an amazing experience at Mono Inn! We were here on New Year’s Day and they had a special menu. We ordered baked oysters, beets salad, duck confit salad, beef Wellington and the lobster tail and three cocktails. The food was priced fairly and beautifully presented and cooked. We will definitely come back here next time when we are on this road!
Great food, super friendly service and great view of Mono Lake. The salmon comes on a well spiced sauce and medium rare. The burger was really good as well a the fries that came with it. And the Mediterranean spreads were a great start.
Been going here several years while at time share at June Lake. Food is ingredient driven, a nice mix of modern and rustic, and not tiny portions. Every visit has been new and delicious. Service is excellent. The dining room is comfy and rustic, with large fireplace burning real wood. The real draw is the full width picture window overlooking Mono lake, always a spectacular sunset during dinner. Sometimes a great moon rise.
The dinner we had at Mono Inn was honestly one of the best of my life. Everything was cooked to perfection from the first bite to the last with creative execution displayed in every course. The views are an amazing bonus to this immaculate experience, can’t recommend it enough.
Mono Inn is One of the Best Restaurants around. Chef Jason prepared a delicious menu for me and my date - lobster risotto with scallops, gnocchi pasta and filet mignon. For dessert it was lava cake with whip creme and blue berry dust. Yum!! Special note, the bar selection was excellent - slane whiskey was my go to but they've got a great craft cocktail list. I was lucky enough to meet the owners Hillary and Thomas and they were both welcoming and knowledgeable. Overall, Everything was excellent and I cant wait to come back to this hidden gem on the shore of Mono lake!
The new ownership that took over in May 2021 have done an INCREDIBLE job. The food is excellent, the service was spot on, and the views were amazing. We had a party of four and our reservation was at 5:15. We were seated right away and stayed for a couple hours. Great ambiance. The new owner was the hostess and she was so kind and came around throughout the night to make sure we had everything we needed. The owner mentioned they are starting to do weddings and receptions in April and Brunch starting in April. We can’t wait to come back time and again. What a refreshing change, so glad we went.
Incredible experience - the spring tasting menu was delicious and the service was amazing. Cant wait to come back
Under new management The Mono Inn is back to being one of the best restaurants in the Eastern Sierra as it was 20-odd years ago. After a couple of disappointing visits after Sarah Adams (Ansell's granddaughter) moved on, we stopped going. A friend shared how good it was on FB so we dropped in when passing by on the offchance. The food and wine was out of this world and not overpriced. The service impeccable (thanks Lizzie) and we were dressed for a long drive home in sweats and that was perfectly acceptable. Unpretentious and affordable. Worth the 30 minute drive from Mammoth Lakes.
The Mono Inn is an incredible place to eat with a view. It has a spectacular view for sunset. Great place to eat after hiking or fishing the lakes. It has a fun 1920s vibe.
We came on our womens reunion trip and could not be more impressed! Service, food and wine spectacular! Thank you Hiliary for your kind attention.

This place is just awesome!!! Must visit in this area! The Chef and staff were great!
My experience this summer at The Mono Inn was absolutely flawless...! I was on a solo hot springs rejuvenation trip and decided to treat myself to the seven-course service - I honestly cannot recall having a better meal in all of my life! The quality, freshness, and flavors were all exquisite. Service and the atmosphere are unrivaled. The care and ingenuity of Chef was very appreciated, as he even called a day or two ahead of time to double-check on possible allergies. I live 10 hours away, but am dreaming of the next time I can make it over to the Eastern Sierra to revisit this gem.
Quiet little place, out of the way but totally worth it. Had chicken sandwich and loved it. If coming through reserve and try it.
What a find! Mono Inn’s owner, chef and attentive staff are really aiming high and delivering a wonderful dining experience. The tasting menu is full of delightful bites, wine pairings highly enjoyable and the bartender mixed up a memorable cocktail. The view is spectacular and the history behind the inn was particularly interesting. The chef and staff were very accommodating of my wife’s dietary restrictions, not easy with a set menu. Can’t wait to go back!
Outstanding food and drinks. I think this place could get s Michelin star if they wanted one. I would like to see some new items on the menu. It is about a 6 course tasting menu. Very Very good. I have been there twice.
Everyone on staff was %100 Perfect! Tom was the best, he made me feel at home. The cook was amazing. Great food. Great experience.

Great place to enjoy a delicious dinner and view of Mono Lake.
Super cute restaurant! Wonderful service, nice staff, beautiful building and lights, cozy fireplace, and delicious drinks! I had a wonderful time! Just a star off because there was a very limited menu. Only about 5 things to choose from, sides can't be swapped out, and the food is a bit overpriced.
Had a very nice time trying the Summer tasting menu. Great flavors created and paired with great wines. This is a wonderfully different place than what you usually find in the Eastern Sierras. The restaurant was too cold which made me uncomfortable the whole time, and the wait staff need to speak a little louder. Can’t wait to come back.

We made dinner reservations, telling them about our anniversary and anticipated pleasant experience. That was not to be. When we arrived we were chastised for being 10 minutes early for our reservation and they were not going to accommodate our table request. We understood and volunteered to wait outside. When we were seated the service was inattentive. Jim took our ordered, delivered it and removed our dishes. That was the last time we saw him. The food was OK, but not memorable. After about 15 or 20 minutes we realized the meal service was over and no one was coming back. We flagged down the waitress. asked for the bill and paid. No one offered us a dessert menu or said good night. The only thing that save the night was the amazing view.
We came here to eat because it was a place that was dog friendly, we were sat outside and it was very cold mind you, the waitress was friendly but the service was not appreciated in the least,it took the waitress long time to come to the take our beverage order which took even longer to get our drinks and to order our food wasn’t soon either, after a long while of ordering our food and receiving we didn’t see our waitress much after that, when we were done eating we wanted to leave because it was very cold we also had to chase the waitress down to get our check so we thought she didn’t deserve a tip,we finally got our check paid and left...your not going to believe this but she came to our car and ask why we didn’t leave her a tip so we told her and of course she wasn’t happy...We were totally disappointed in the service and the food was very expensive and the portions were small.....NOT PLANNING TO GO THERE AGAIN!!!!!
We went to this place on my birthday to have a nice dinner. Unfortunately, the staff must have been having a really bad day. Right when we walked in I could tell they didn't want us there. The hostess yells from across the restaurant that it will be a while. I said no problem. We waited 5 minutes. Then she asked if we had a reservation. I said no. So she tells me again it is going to be a while. The small restaurant is less than 1/2 full. After waiting patiently for 20 minutes to be seated, the staff told us we could leave if we wanted. So we did. It seems they didn't want to be in business.
Super rude unfriendly and unwelcoming. If on a busy holiday weekend at 7:30, when every place in town is packed, you see a place with 60% tables empty, you can guess they are doing something wrong. Tried to eat there on a birthday. Got ignored and then treated with attitude. Do not ruin your vacation, stay away.
