Star of Indian is a hidden gem in west Little Rock. The staff is always warm and friendly and the food is ready quickly. I ordered the butter chicken which was very flavorful and tender! The vegetable samosas were very crispy and the mint and tamarind sauces were phenomenal! Their garlic naan was very yummy as well. The butter chicken was a little less thick than I usually like but other than that it was wonderful!
When I first walked into this restaurant during SBT (Standard Buffet Time), the owner greeted me and my guest with a "Welcome home!" from across the room. It was very nice and it reminded me of some of the popular, incredible restaurants from Chicago but this is right here in Little Rock! The buffet was super affordable based upon the quality and uniqueness of the food. Look, you're not going to find India food at fast food prices because this isn't fast food. It requires a lot of ingredients that you can't even buy from the usual supply companies. I think the buffet was under 20 and it was the weekday price. There's a lot of choices here so if you've never tried Indian food then this might be your chance. However, this food was unique. It differs from the Indian food that I've tried throughout the US Midwest. Oh it's delicious, but it might seem slightly unfamiliar to those of you who frequent Indian restaurants and that's what I love about it! The owner said "This is my own style of cooking." So that makes it a must try! I'm looking forward to going back! Honestly, I did over-eat because the food was so incredibly delicious.
Welcome home to Star of India! Top of the line, best food, best service, best people. One of my favorite places. Sami has been greeting me and giving me top notch service for over 10 years.
Micheline star worthy, not just great Indian food, but great food in general, I ordered the beef biryani and the portion was massive, easily enough for 2 people and I’m a grown man, butter chicken was great, the best part other than the exceptional food was the kindness of the owner and staff, they greeted me with “welcome home” and I felt it in every part of the dining experience, they really do make you feel like home, generous portions and generous owner who offered us free deserts, while other restaurants charge you for every little thing this Resturant goes above and beyond with offering extra! I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, Iv frequently visit it whenever I’m in the city and I always come out more impressed. “I can’t wait to get hungry again so I can eat these leftovers” was not a thought Iv ever had before!
The hospitality is top notch. The staff make it a point to welcome you first thing. They were quick to get your drink and food orders. The food came quick. By far the best Indian Food I've had in the South. Highly recommend the Mango Lassi drink and if you like spicy the Lamb Vindaloo was great
We had been on the road for 13 hours and saw this restaurant was near our hotel so we went in for dinner. The service was amazing, we were greeted warmly, seated. They brought some food right away for us to snack on. The menu has options for everyone’s tastes. I got the Butter Chicken and my boyfriend got the Star Special Mixed Grill entree. They were served with rice. Both were SO GOOD. We also got the Garlic Naan. All amazing. I also got the Mango Lassi, very tasty. Throughout the meal we had several servers come to the table and check on us. We never had to wait for water or flag anyone down. This place was surprisingly upscale. We live 13 hours away or we would be regulars at this place. It was some of the best Indian food I have ever had and I have been to a lot of places all over this country.
Star of India is hands down one of the greatest restaurants I’ve ever been to in my life. It is a local legend, with what unironically might be Michelin star Indian food at a fair price. The people are wonderful, the place is charming and comfortable. If you’re in Little Rock and you DONT eat here, you’re absolutely missing out.
Welcome Home! From the moment we walked in until we left, bellies full and smile on our face, we loved every second spent at The Star of India! The food was incredible, authentic and delicious. The service was amazing, we did not have to ask for refills, and we're served like royalty. Seeing how the owner knew EVERY single regular by name, greeted them with handshakes and hugs, I will return to The Star of India every chance I get. I live about an hour away but this spot will always be on my list of places to come when I'm on Little Rock. Thank you for making us feel like the MOST important customer.
One of the best places to have Indian food with very unique flavors. We drove from Houston and stopped at this place for dinner. I can tell how different the flavors were for the same dishes we had at some the best Indian restaurant. If you are at Little Rock should definitely go to this place.
Let's start off with the ambient atmosphere and homey feeling decor. Or the way the staff and/or owners approach you lovingly as if you were family, or the way they help you understand the menu. How about how they are SO PATIENT with you, and never have I felt more appreciated in an establishment. Now the food. I love how they ask me how hot I want my food ! Because a lot of Indian places I've been, don't ask how hot I want my food ! They brought it out at the perfect spice , so I could taste the seasonings and not all spice ! The naan buttered is AMAZING. I'm picky about naan, and theirs was perfect! The chicken biryani had lots of chicken! The portions are large !! They also have buffets 7 DAYS A WEEK YALL ! so if you aren't sure what to get Indian food wise, id suggest going for that and experiencing the food before you commit to a favorite dish ! I asked for a recommended curry, and idek what it was, but it was flavorful! And just , man. I left as one happy girl ! Haha I live 5 hours from here but when I come back, I will be back for the food, hospitality, and the kind words . 10/10
Listen, I got food yesterday afternoon for my beautiful wife (as she just gave birth to our daughter not even joking) cause she requested indian food, well ive never had REAL indian food and omfg this place right here they legitimately make you feel comfortable, welcomed, loved and just all around amazing. The owner walks around making sure his "family" (customers) are extremely satisfied and so so loved. I will 100% recommend these beautiful humans to anyone and everyone!!!!!!
I've eaten here nearly 30 years, if this says anything at all. I've tried many other places and occasionally find one dish at each of them that might come close, but never as good. For consistent abkve and beyond well seasoned and presented tasty dishes across the menu, no place can touch Star of India!!! The noon time buffet is also excellent with a wide variety of dishes, and at a fair price.
From the moment I walked into this restaurant, I knew I was in for something special. The warm, inviting atmosphere immediately set the tone. The service was exceptional from start to finish. The waiters were friendly and attentive. Their genuine hospitality added so much to the overall experience. And then, of course, the food — absolutely outstanding! Every dish was bursting with authentic flavor and beautifully presented. Each bite felt like a celebration of traditional Indian cooking with a modern touch. Excellent food, impeccable service, and a warm atmosphere — it’s everything you could ask for in a dining experience.
We went recently for dinner, and the food was great as always. Service is also consistently prompt and attentive. This time we were caught off guard being charged $14 for 2 ice creams after dinner. We assumed it was free of charge because it was offered something like: "Now you have your choice of 7 flavors of our special Indian ice cream." But ice cream has been complimentary, historically, albeit just soft serve vanilla. The owner-manager Sami was so kind as to take it off our bill; he always makes sure everyone feels welcome and taken care of.
Visiting Little Rock for the month and was really missing Indian food from home. Ordered to go and it was ready in twenty minutes. Staff were really friendly at pickup and the inside of the restaurant was clean and inviting. The food was delicious- we ordered lamb biriyani, garlic naan, and chicken tikka. I wish the chicken tikka was a little spicier but all the food was delicious and tasted authentic. For such a reasonable price you get a lot of food.
If you want a warm greeting upon walking in, an amazingly delicious variety of food on the buffet, courteous servers and to leave full - this is the place for you! Pouring rain today and the people just kept pouring in. One gentleman said "2 days in a row!" Another was from Oklahoma, passing through & had to try it. People everywhere know this is the best - check it out - it is always worth it!
I want to start this review by saying that all the awards this restaurant has won over the years, speaks volumes. For years Star of India has been the heart of Indian Cuisine in LR, and still to this day, it stands true. The “home”owner of this wonderful establishment, Sammy, makes it all possible. He truly makes you feel like you have just walked into, his home - your home - Gods home, He welcomes you with open arms and an open heart. Always starting off each open door with, “Welcome home! I’m so glad to see you!” If you have never tried Indian Cuisine before, I highly suggest you come here for you first experience and if you are too close minded to even give it a try, you are truly missing out on one of life’s greatest experiences. The pictures I have listed here are from two different visits. We choose to come here for any and every special occasion because Sammy and this restaurant, his home, truly makes those moments sparkle a little more. My husband and I came here this week wanting to bring some leftovers home to enjoy for a few more days and my husband came up with this new clever way of a family meal to go box. Rain or Shine, Snow or Ice, Star of India is the place to be, the place to eat, the place where family is everyone.
This Indian restaurant offers a delightful culinary journey with authentic flavors and rich spices. The elegant décor, warm lighting, and soothing music create a welcoming ambiance perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. From aromatic curries to tandoori delights, each dish is crafted with care, delivering a memorable and satisfying dining experience.
Some of the best indian food I've ever had. I got a variation of the lamb curry. Excellent

Great, old school been around forever, all you can eat buffet. They actually greeted me with, ‘Welcome home’ as I came in the door. Well, how could they have known it was more than 10 years or so since I had eaten at the restaurant? Of course they didn’t but that’s just the vibe of this great place so come on down and get some great comfort food and relax for a bit!
The service was great, it was a little confusing going in at the start but the food was amazing, the environment was alrightbit was a little cramped but the food made up for this ! This was my first time trying Indian cuisine, and it dod not disappoint! It was a good experience 10 out of 10 I would recommend for a first time in Arkansas authentic cuisine experience.
This place is usually amazing; the staff are all super friendly and welcoming, the food top notch, and the environment clean. However, I went today for the first time in months and found myself disappointed bc I had issue after issue. I was there for the buffet, and when I was asked what I would like to drink I ordered tea. It took several attempts to communicate that I want Darjeeling tea, in the end just saying "hot tea" got the point across. Then the staff member completely forgot my order, and when my companion reminded him that I still hadn't gotten my drink, he ran to the back and said it will be one moment. I didn't get my drink until as we were about to leave. The other - more upsetting - thing was I ordered peshwari naan, and was super excited because it's my favorite type of naan. I ordered it to go so I could snack on it later. I paid $6 for naan that was definitely not peshwari. I've attached photos of it and the description they have for their peshwari. It was horrindous. It tasted like peanuts, had no fruit and was soggy. Their menu description said it is a naan with herbs, fruits and nuts. But it had no fruit, green leaves that had no taste and the nuts had to be peanuts, which is not what is usually used in peshwari and made for a truly gross taste. In the end, I wonder if it was another naan bread they may have accidentally gave me, but no other naan on the menu mentions nuts so I doubt this is the case. Overall, their food is very good, and so is their service on a usual visit. But I would highly NOT recommend the peshwari.
The service was excellent—they frequently checked in to see if we needed anything. The mango lassi was outstanding, and both the mixed appetizer and mixed grill are great choices if you want to sample a variety of items. The chicken Achari was especially delicious and paired well with rice, biryani, and naan. The only drawback was the biryani—it tasted more like methi rice than traditional biryani. While it was still flavorful, the spice level we requested as medium felt milder than expected.

Tasty authentic Indian cuisine. The lunch was a great deal. Fast service. Fragrant and clean. Only complaint was our waiter kept clearing our plates as we were still eating, however we had enough .
