Been to tallgrass a few times already and have always had the most exceptional service. This time we tried the Chicken Vesuvio and the Seasonal catch (which was stripped sea bass). It was all so delicious. The menu was very thoroughly explained and I could tell a lot of thought was put into each dish and drink. Thank you to Keila for the great service she always goes above and beyond the ensure we are well taken care of. I forgot to add to the reservation that it was a birthday and my partner had mentioned it to them, they took the extra step to surprise us with a little birthday treat! To me those small acknowledgments set restaurants like this apart. Thank you again will be back soon!! ❤️

The food and drinks are exceptional. This was our first time trying beef tartare and escargot; we were thrilled with how everything tasted. The appetizers give you a large variety of new and exciting options. The main meal we ordered was the duck breast. It was cooked perfectly and was better than I could have expected. I would definitely order it again in the future. These were some of the best cocktails we've ever ordered too. They were perfectly balanced where you could taste everything, but nothing overpowered anything else. Overall this place is far and above other places in the area and I highly recommend giving them a try.

We ate at Tallgrass for the first time on a Thursday evening and for most of our meal we were the only patrons. We ordered the bread, which was fantastic, French onion soup and the meatball special. The food was fantastic, as was the service. The building is beautiful inside but we only have one complaint- it was freezing! They sat us by the front window and we decided to skip dessert because my fingers and toes were ice cubes. We’ll definitely return once the weather warms up.

Downtown Lockport is lucky to have Tallgrass in the neighborhood. It is the best fine dining experience you will get hands down in the area without driving to Naperville, Oak Brook or Chicago. Nothing compares or comes close to it. Went here for my birthday dinner. The menu had a nice "Happy Birthday" placer in it which was nice. A complimentary glass of champagne is always a plus in my book! Our server was very attentive but I did not get her name. I have dined here before in 2023 before the renovations and wow, it's very nice inside. The place itself is beautiful and the exterior took a huge upgrade and looks great. The entrees were plated wonderfully. The food is top notch. I wasn't impressed with the filet mignon, felt it lacked flavor. The diver scallops were amazing though and the butternut squash with it was my favorite. The cheese and meat selection was a nice touch to the menu. Wife ordered the gnocci and it was good but I've had better. The drinks were absolutley delicious and the bartender knew what she was doing. The mocktail selection was also great if you don't drink alcohol. The Tallgrass old fashion was delicious, get it smoked, fun to see! The one thing that was distracting for my wife and I was how cold our feet got sitting by the windows. I have never had my feet get that cold eating anywhere before (really need to figure that out). We ate for about 2 hours or so and during dessert my wife was like we have to go, my feet are frozen. Overall, I'd give it a solid 4 but really for the location considering the mediocre places all around it, I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5. I give it 5 stars just because it's nice to have a place like this close to home and hope to see it succeed with making small changes. I will definitley be back and recommend friends and family here. Wish there was just a bar area because I'd come just for drinks and some meat and cheese during the week. Great work and cheers to the new owners!

So nice to see a Well done Cozy Fine Dining Restaurant on the SW side! Glad the new owners kept a lot of the classic spaces charm! Very Good remodel. The newly designed courtyard will really shine in summer! Staff is well versed on the menu, & wine list. Friendly atmosphere, not stuffy at all. Food was really good! The Salmon TareTare, & Bruleed goat cheese appetizers were Incredible! They also have a nice Charcuterie board menu. Keep up the good work!

I noticed that the restaurant had reopened under new guidance from a locally known Chef and Mixologist couple. The previous iteration of Tallgrass was always a culinary experience but had a bit of rigidity to it that sometimes detracted from the overall experience. I still love what the old Tallgrass did from a culinary standpoint but this is the present and here is my review. This experience was well above and beyond that of the old days. The scene - The look and vibe of Tallgrass is now chic, cool and a bit modern even though some of the old restaurant's elements remain. There is a new and absolutely amazing patio waiting on warmer weather. I'll take a 5 pm Thursday reservation every week from May 15th through October 31st!! Pro Tip - Order the bread service and compound butter spreads when you order your drinks. You will want it with your appetizers and your charcuterie board if going in that direction. First - The main menu and the specials menu had so many amazing items on it. The warm date and bacon appetizer was delicious, unique and a perfect start. That focaccia bread would've been perfect to scoop up the remaining date and bacon salad. Second - the cocktail menu options are unique, flavorful and well composed. Madison oversees the "bar" program and it is flourishing. Lots of choices and this evening we tried 5 different cocktails. Our favorites were the Bacon Fat Washed Vodka Martini and the Warmed Spiced Cocktail which was perfect for a cold evening. Third - We ordered the Charcuterie board and loaded it up with 5 different options. The Chef (owner) introduced the area to the À la carte version of charcuterie dining some years ago and he brought it to Tallgrass. AMEN. Photo of our board is in the pics. Order a bottle and a board, sit back and enjoy. Fourth - We were already fairly full so we skipped proper entrées. As a person who loves to explore food it is my mission to come back and try as many items on the menu before they disappear into the ether due to seasonality and the culinary whims (freedom) of the Chef. Fifth - Dessert... our table ordered separate desserts and the Canelés that I had were superb. Crispy, chewy, light and fluffy all in one. Yum. A few items of note - it is an older building so frigid temps can impact the experience. We dressed for walking from public parking to the restaurant and it suited us well inside. The entry is no longer through the basement. It is on that newly created patio side (courtyard). The staff are fantastic. Friendly, perfectly attentive and approachable are a few words that I would use to describe them. In short - Highly recommend, will repeat and will champion.

This was a hidden gem in the suburbs. They have a great tasting menu (you choose the courses) and exceptional service. Free parking in the lot close by as well as street parking. We did the 7 course tasting which was excellent. However, a 5 course tasting is more than enough food. Honestly, each course was delicious but i thought the crisp shrimp was just ok. Highly recommend a drive over here, definitely on par with the Michelin star restaurants in Chicago but not overpriced.

We had amazing meals and service! The atmosphere was perfect. I felt like I was downtown. Arune was the best! This restaurant is a must try for elevated dining!

I have been wanting to go to this place since I spotted it years ago. I was so excited to see that it reopened last week. What a wonderful experience. Such an intimate establishment with great food and cocktails. Our server Lina was warm and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Tallgrass and will for sure be back.

What an incredible restaurant! This was my first fine dinning experience and boy did I feel fancy. We did the 5 course meal. All of the flavors went together perfectly and surprised me every time. The portions are LARGE and I was stuffed towards the 4th course. Highly recommend.

Fantastic all around. A lot of people have never heard of Tallgrass and you could walk right past it and not even know that the restaurant is there. There are no walk ins, no drinks at the bar and reservations are required. Thankfully enough people have heard of Tallgrass to have it come up in discussions about great restaurants. The Service is exceptional from the beginning until the end. The menu provides multiple choices of that are served as either a three, four, five or seven course meal. We all had the 4 courses and we probably did not need the fourth course. I started my meal with House Smoked Salmon Benedict followed with a trio of three soups served in the same bowl, Grilled Lamb rack and chop served with a Butternut squash puree and i finished my meal with a cheese assortment while the others enjoyed the deserts. All in all the food was exceptional as I would expect based upon the review. My favorite was the Smoked Salmon, which was served with a crisp egg, potato disc, caper, spinach and hollandaise sauce. The perfectly soft boiled egg covered the salmon and potatoes just enough to make this dish amazing. My second favorite was the trio of soups in one bowl. The soups were Potato/Leek, Brocolli/Fennel. and Squash/Sage. Not only did this trio of soups provide a very visual experience int he three colors, the taste, both individually and mixed was amazing. All in all an amazing experience in fine dining that I would highly recommend.

If you are in for a romanting dinner escape, celebrating a great event or just in a mood for a real treat, this is the right place for you. This small restaurant has been in business for quite some time with the scope of offering one of the most researched food with best raw ingredients in great recipes. When there, you have options to opt for a 3, 4 or 5 meals ( maybe even 6 but I am not sure) to choose among the list. Make sure you determined what the main course is to enjoiy it the most! All delicacies are presented in a stunning way and the portions are balanced to make sure you can enjoy every bite without feeling full. Dessert menh is also considerably tasty and the wine selection is wide and high-end. During the meal, we have been offered different varieties of handmade bread and a couple of small entrees at the chef's discretion. Will definitely be back for other special occasions!

What a great, unassuming gem of place to get great food in the suburbs. Execution is great, flavors blend well and dishes are of a good portion. Not creative to the extent of downtown but still good for a Bib Gourmand. Try their assortments and soufflé!

This place is a gem their chef Theron and their Barr Manager Madison really know what they’re doing to create a fantastic experience. I’ve been here four times and have enjoyed it every single time.

Tallgrass is back and what a delight!! The dishes are on point and the service was fantastic. The remodel is beautiful and the addition of the new courtyard is just perfect! As a former employee and relative of the retired chef, I was not sure what to expect. I was very impressed and will be planning on being a regular ! Well done

Absolutely fantastic high end restaurant. The service is some of the best I've experienced. The wait staff is well informed and can answer detailed questions about each dish and how its prepared. This is a favorite of ours for a special occassion. You choose 3, 4 or 5 courses and can select anything from the menu for those courses. Great wine selection and cocktails. No beer, but my husband is pacified by the amazing selection of homemade organic breads. This place cannot be beat. Every single bite will blow your mind!

What a spectacular experience! This was the only fine dining restaurant within miles of Joliet, and was worth the drive. The room, the food, and the service were all excellent; this is the best dining experience I have had in a small town anywhere in America. My three-course dinner was fabulous, the cocktails we large and generous, and the wine was superb. There were no criticisms or shortcomings, and I can't wait to go back. Don't miss it...

M

Amazing food experience! The service was impeccable, the courses were each excellent, done to perfection and unparalleled in flavor. The portions were more than adequate and my guest and I both needed things wrapped to go. I will be back and highly recommend this restaurant.

Tallgrass has a dining experience that is a great mix of the best of downtown dining and small town. You have food with the creativity and quality of a fine downtown restaurant. You also have the comfortable friendly staff and better prices of a suburban restaurant. It is a special experience that was great for my birthday and the half dozen times I have enjoyed Tallgrass. The taster menu with 7 courses is a great choice but wear loose clothes because it will fill you up.

Tallgrass has been beautifully remodeled. I didn’t feel like I was in Lockport. The BBC service was great. And food was delicious. Definitely a treat for a special occasion. The mussels and scallops were delicious. And I absolutely enjoyed the gnocchi. Looking forward to returning.

Great overall experience. The new owners did a magnificent job of creating a modern version of an old classic. Well crafted cocktails and beautifully presented French cuisine. Expensive but worth it.

This is an amazing dining experience every time! It is the epitome of fine dining. The service is impeccable. Menu items are inventive and always wonderful. The ambience and architecture of the restaurant only add to the incredible food. The prices are certainly higher than average family dining but that is because you will get cuisine that is unique and you will not get these dishes anywhere else. It is worth every penny! If you truly have an appreciation for a meal that is an event you should not miss this restaurant. The chef is obviously passionate about his art and it shows in every dish!

Great food and drinks. Very quaint atmosphere. Service was a little slow considering the number of patrons present. But overall great experience

Was blessed to be able to attend their soft open. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. The food was anywhere from great to amazing to omg best ive had. When the bill came we were pleasantly surpised to see it be less than we anticipated it would be (we weren't tracking our prices as we orderd 😉). If you're debating on coming- the debate is settled. You're dining with Tallgrass tonight.

The food was incredible. The portions bigger than I expected, which was a bonus. The wine selection is stellar. The service is top notch. A wonderful gem of a restaurant if you're in the mood for a quiet and relaxing fine dining experience. The seafood assortment sampler was amazing. The pork tenderloin was amazing. And the burrata was also delicious. I wish I had two stomachs so I could eat the entire menu.

This has become our "special" place. An intimate restaurant that still carries a dress code in this "anything is acceptable world" is a true treat. Everything works together to provide a wonderful experience. Part of me would like to keep it a secret, but I only wish the best for the chef and staff. Incredible seasonal menus to enjoy! Reservations are required and also a deposit.

We went here for our 21st anniversary. We waited an hour for charcuterie board that we never got. All other tables were getting food. They told us numerous times it was coming and it never did. They gave us drink tickets that we gave away because we won't be returning. Update: After our poor night with Tallgrass the restaurant read the review and the Chef reached out to me personally. He apologized and invited us back. We gave them another chance and we were not disappointed. They went above and beyond to make our experience top notch. I would definitely recommend!! It means alot that a restaurant recognized their mistake and did whatever they could to make up for it.

Wow! Tallgrass is back! A little different than the last version, but we had the best meal to celebrate our anniversary. Went with the chef's choice and don't regret it. My husband had the special, Pork Belly, and I had steak frites. Cocktails were outstanding and a wonderful wine list! Love the ambience and the outdoor patio is adorable. Great service too. Can't wait to come back!

I haven’t gone recently but throughout time I’ve always heard good things. On one of our last visits there I hosted my husbands 40th birthday for a group of 20 people. They were so gracious and food was delicious. We even brought in our own cake and sang hb in English and Spanish and some of the staff joined us in Spanish! This was some years ago but I never forgot how invited we felt.

We went here a few years ago and decided to come back for a night out. Wow! We almost didn't recognize the place. Completely modernized. The food and drinks are phenomenal. The bartender was clearly passionate about her drinks and told us about her inspiration for some of them which was cool. Again, the food is fantastic and atmosphere is chic. Highly recommend. Best restaurant in the area, hands down.

We celebrated our birthday at Tallgrass and it was the best part of the whole day! The atmosphere is so beautiful, the service was attentive and pleasant. The beautifully crafted cocktails were amazing. The food was absolutely delicious, we shared several of the dishes so we could taste as many as we could. It was a magnificent experience!

So excited that this French fusion spot is now serving brunch on Sundays—because honestly, who doesn't love brunch on a Sunday? 😄 I had a delicious burger with perfectly crispy fries, and the kids absolutely loved their breakfast waffle meals. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and the food came out hot and fresh. Great addition to the weekend lineup—we’ll definitely be back!

My husband and I were happy Tallgrass reopened. We went tonight for our anniversary dinner. Everything was delicious. The service was fantastic; the server gave us a personalized anniversary menu and offered each of us a glass of complimentary prosecco. The bread and butter is a must!

What a fabulously intimate experience. Food was melt in your mouth perfect! Fancy drinks and wine were perfectly paired with our menu choices. Chocolate mousse was the best I’ve ever had. Chef Theron and Bartendress Madison rock! Definitely recommend for a fancy intimate night out.

Really cute restaurant in Lockport. We had some amazing appetizers and the duck and salmon special entree. Nice attempt at downtown Chicago quality... And prices ... Out in the suburbs

We went in the dead of winter. It’s a quaint warm looking atmosphere, although it was uncomfortably cold every time the door opened. The food was excellent, however they really need a drink menu for signature cocktails.

K

Food and ambiance was fantastic! Got to wear my sparkly pumps and no one rolled their eyes. However, if you are a celiac beware. The staff had no idea what I was talking about when I asked questions before ordering. I did also state one member of the table requires gluten free when I made the reservation...To thier credit the wait staff tried and even began figuring out the dietary need by the last course. 😎 I will definitely go back again.

M
McKenna Martin

Ended up doing 4 courses and only one meal really stood out. The chowder/stew was the winning dish out of all the ones we got. If you get desert make sure you get the heated/spicy strawberries. It was a unique dinning experience and trying to guess what three ingredients made up the mystery drink was really fun! It was a little strange that they didn’t have a drink menu and unfortunately the drinks that they made weren’t that good. Maybe it was an off night but don’t think I’ll be trying again especially do to the price

This was the worst experience of visiting this superb restaurant as compared to our prior dinners here. Food was just ok. For starters, Lobster Bisque was awful... I wonder if the chef even tasted the soup that looked and tasted like dishwater. Good luck trying to understand some of the wait staff. I'm bilingual and had a tough time understanding. I did get a cup for my coffee, but it never came until I asked for it. Was quite chilly in there. Few women had draped their jackets over their shoulders. ITEMIZED receipt? I understand it's a base course price, but what about the bottle of wine and our cocktails? How much were they? Valet parking is offered. However, it's a block away, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! Waaay to many fine dining restaurants to experience...just my opinion! Agatha

Went with a party of 4 and our bill with tip was just under $600.00. Service was great (Meagan) and the restaurant is very comfortable. Drinks were great. Menu is oddly arranged. There is a great charcuterie selection. There were only 6 entrees. One person at our table ordered the duck entree and they were out. We were there at 6pm on a Saturday. How can you be out of an entree for the first seating on a Saturday. The 2 pasta dishes were under seasoned. It was a lovely night but overpriced for the food received.

T
Thomas

The food was very good. The dishes were fresh, unique, and had great presentation. My problem was with the staff and cocktails. I was asked if I’d like to see a cocktail list and confirmed I would. Next I was told there was no cocktail list so I just ordered a common drink. I was then told they were missing a key part of that drink so they would have to substitute it with ginger ale, which I said was fine. The drink I was handed had ginger ale and simple syrup which doesn’t belong in the drink. The drink was awful, but it took about 15 min to revive after my order so I just dealt with it. For my next drink I just asked for a sprite with vodka. When the bill came I was charged $14 each for both cocktails! No list, no prices, wrong drink and one just had sprite and they were both $14? I was with my girlfriend so we each had 2 drinks so it was $46 for them total. They probably cost about a $1.50 to make. I asked one of our servers for an explanation of the pricing of the cocktails and he just grabbed the check, put his head down and began walking away while saying yes, yes that’s correct. What the hell?

My family and I visited this French restaurant yesterday 12/27/25. We were not impressed for the price we paid. First off the tables are too big and the space in the restaurant is very small. If they want to have more customers at the same time the tables need to be smaller. We were literally squeezing ourselves to get through to our table or to use the restroom. Speaking of the restroom, I never went to a restaurant that had black toilets. I guess it was to add some kind of elegance, but I ended up wiping the seat before using it just in case. Now let me talk about the food. We had the bread and butter and cheese charcuterie for appetizers. The bread and butter appetizer was delicious. No complaints there. The charcuterie board looked like they just slapped some cheese and crackers on there without a care for presentation. Nothing wow about that. My dad had the autumn squash soup and gnocchi. He enjoyed the soup but was not impressed by the gnocchi. My husband had the steak made medium to order. He was not impressed by the portion size or the taste. My cousin and I had the salmon which was so undercooked we sent our plates back. When they came out we both realized they gave us n even smaller portion size of the main meal. At least they were better cooked than before. For dessert, my husband, dad and cousin had the crème brûlée and I had the chocolate mousse. They were not impressed by the crème brûlée at all. The chocolate mousse had so many artificial cherries on top I could only eat half of it. The overall service was okay. Again, not impressed. For an expensive French restaurant in downtown Lockport, we were really not impressed at all and will not be going back.

I’ve been to many fine dining restaurants before but this place was by far the WORST. Nothing that we ordered stood out as a remarkable dish, but more along the lines of something I could have easily made myself better or ordered at a much cheaper restaurant with more flavor. I try to eat the food, whether it is my favorite preparation or not…but I had to actually send something back. I never do that. The meal lacked salt or pepper or ANY flavoring at all and was so underwhelming. Do not waste your money.

After 3 great visits, we decided to take family for wife’s birthday. Although Verified, seafood combination not available and 6 of 7 wanted sea food as main entree. Steak overdone or not quite right, 2 with odd purplish color. Some dishes oversalted. Everything of interested seemed uplifted. Waitresses not happy or cordial, although we were told it was from illness of owner, after the fact. We were told website info we relied on was incorrect. They offered free meal for 2 ( valid for 18 days) but having spent almost 900 $ with one drink per person for 7 people, and in no hurry to return, we declined. Great expectations, poor execution. Morale : if something is wrong do not open that day..

M
Mario Misseha

Not what it used to be. Maybe new management or something. They didn’t have any of the items I was ordering saying they “ran out” Not sure how they can have multiple food items and not serve them. Will not be returning.
