I brought my wife here for a Mother's Day dinner yesterday and was absolutely blown away. From the minute we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly and welcoming staff. We enjoyed a table on the front porch. Even though we were seated outside, we were provided the same attention and detail as if we were inside and more visible. The service was attentive, yet not pretentious. Our server was incredibly friendly and helpful, and knew exactly how involved to get in order to enhance our dining experience. The menu was well chosen and beautifully assembled. The dishes were creative, but in a way which enhanced both the presentation and more importantly, the flavor. The kitchen is clearly incredibly well run since the food arrived quicker than expected, but still prepared perfectly. Our dinner was a wonderful experience, and we definitely plan to return here in the future.
Such a beautiful place 🥰 will come back again! my phone didn’t have any connection inside near fireplace . Don’t know why. And I’m not sure is it parking lot? I just parked across the street.
Fabulous evening with our friends at Barney’s last night. Drinks at the bar…delicious shrimp fettuccini, excellent service, wonderful dessert. This place will be in our regular rotation!
Great place. The best dessert ever!

A dining treasure!
Great place
in a class by itself
The only negative part about this restaurant is that they make us leave LOL It's a wonderful restaurant with amazing service, incredible food and a warm, inviting ambience. The people who run this restaurant are great...this is a genuinely comfortable atmosphere that is like sliding on a pair of your favorite loafers or sitting in your favorite club chair. It's just perfect. This is a place we were planning out next visit even before we finished our entrees. Incidentally, we had calamari and gnocchi to start and duck and filet for dinner, but we both agreed what we ordered was stellar but every table's dishes looked wonderful. This is a marvelous place and we're excited for our next visit.
Platos cuidados, sabrosos y abundantes. Savoir faire en la cocina y buen servicio. Rico.
Très bonne cuisine
Good food, great service, everyone was very nice .. I would go back for a night out
What a awsome place to eat . Food was amazing . Piano music playing . Loved it
Really delicious. My boyfriends favorite restaurant on the north shore. Small, yet upscale.
Wow just had a fantastic dinner at Barney’s of Locust. Valley — the Long Island duck was exceptional.
Iconic place. Friendly staff and great food. Support local business
Always an excellent dinner, there for a special evening with my girlfriend.
The food and presentation was excellent, and the service was outstanding. A+
This is the type of no nonsense food we all crave. Expect the next from good ole Barney Rubble.

Can't beat the ambiance in the cozy fireplace room. The food is always solid and they added some delicious specialty cocktails. I Highly recommend Barneys to anyone looking for a unique, quiet dining experience.
Love coming to Barney’s. I have a gluten and dairy allergy and the chef is always able to accommodate me. The meat is always cooked perfectly. Sitting by the fireplace is super cozy but the entire layout feels like dining at home with the best chefs and staff taking care of you.
My wife and I had a fantastic evening recently at Barney’s. Always wanted to eat there and finally having done so we’re very glad we did. Michael the owner was very personable and gave us a history and tour of the place. Super nostalgic and classy restaurant with a delicious food. Will definitely be returning soon.
Besides being an excellent restaurant it is a impressive venue social events. Mike an Christine the owners went out or there way to make my son and new daughter's wedding truly memorable. The food incredible the Waite staff second to none all in all a night to remember
Melvin and Ari were fantastic in helping me set up my reservation for Mother’s Day. Everything was excellent and everyone was extremely accommodating!! Food was delicious and drinks were phenomenal, can’t wait to go back!!
Small and cozy establishment with amazing food. The ambiance is nice, when you walk in there's a cozy bar and they have a beautiful fire place in the dining room. Everyone is happy to be there, and the energy in the room spreads a light buzz. I had the most delish tuna tartare appetizer. Beautiful presentation, the tuna was fresh and the coleslaw was crunchy, with a crisp toastada, it was perfection! Also we had the crab cake appetizer, served on field greens with a fresh and tangy dressing, perfectly paired with the crab cake and lemon caper emulsion. For our final appetizer we had the ricotta gnocchi, while it was tasty just a few bites was good for me. It was very dense and the sauce was creamy with a very rich flavor, earthy hints of mushrooms and greens, and I could imagine too much would have left me feeling heavy. Nonetheless still good. On too my entree! Pan seared diver scallops and shrimp!!! Scallops are one of my favorite entrees and I am so happy to say that were PERFECTLY cooked and bathed in the most mouth pleasing lemon dill sauce that danced and swirled through a bed of jullianed zucchini, again perfectly cooked. They were soft yet still had the crisp bite to give the tiniest bit if crunch underneath a bite of scallop. This lemon dill sauce had such an amazing consistency, so full of flavor! The taste of creamy, buttery, dill hinted lemon washes over your tongue and matches well with all the items on your plate. There were maybe a small handful of polenta croutons, a little too hard for my liking, but they are croutons so they should be! My dinner date ordered the skirt steak and graciously fed me a bite. The skirt steak was cooked just as ordered medium rare and had nice flavor. I really enjoyed the spinach he had on the side, and I helped my self to several bites and used it to mop up the rest of my lemon dill sauce from my own entree! Finally for dessert we had a key lime pie which was light and full of lime flavor, drizzled with a blueberry sauce and fresh blueberries on the side. It was perfectly tart and sweet. We also indulged in a slice of cheesecake which was so fluffy and rich and creamy and everything you want a slice of cheesecake to be! I was absolutely tickled with our restaurant choice and will be returning in the weeks to come! ( I had my eye on the lamb!! ) I would highly recommend this restaurant, it is worth every penny!
Always a lovely experience. Cozy, romantic, rustic. Love the fireplace and private side room. The owner Michael is so nice. Food and staff are great. Brunch is delicious as well! Must gets: Hudson Valley foie gras, crab cakes, chicken paillard sandwich for brunch (huge!), bloody marys with bacon, LI Duck (and I love duck! The only other place I like duck from is Heirloom Tavern in Glen Head and Hunter in East Norwich.)
An excellent and atmospheric restaurant in a historic building on Long Island's North Shore. Went for Mother's Day Dinner. Every course was appropriately sized and perfectly prepared. We will be returning soon.
One of my favorite restaurants on the Island, it’s so romantic my girlfriend thought I was proposing. Delicious, and as another reviewer mentioned, staff is attentive, but never intrusive. Look forward to our next visit.
Very good service, delicious food! My family and I are very happy!
Went for brunch with family party of 6 including 2 kids. The food was fabulous. The kids actually ate their meals. The service was outstanding. Definitely going back.
One of the nicest dining experiences on Long Island. The ownership and staff make you feel like you're at home. The food is consistently delicious. A real Gem!
Very friendly and accommodating staff. Food was amazing. Drinks were delicious, try the 'Bee's Knees'. Will definitely be back when we're in the area again.
A ten out of ten for food, service, and atmosphere. An old world charm and quaint vibe with exceptional friendly service and delicious food.
We had delicious food in a warm and cozy atmosphere. The owners are attentive and the service and staff were wonderful. Love it!
One of my favorite restaurants. Great food and great atmosphere. Staff is attentive but not intrusive. One of the best restaurants on the North Shore.
I had a great time. The food was amazing!!! Best French onion soup I ever had… ever!!
New owner did a lot to spruce his place up. Food is always fantastic. Super cozy and romantic!!
Everything was perfect - the food, the service & the atmosphere. Just a wonderful evening
It is an old school 1890’s restaurant. VERY Good vibes and design I got the vinegaretye salad and the salmon basmati rice. It is so wonderful. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for those who like old stuff or an interesting experience.
Once again a lovely experince with great service, great food and a good wine. Parlor Room was quiet with soft and pleasant background music. The service and our server were exceptional and the meal was well prepared, as ordered and well portioned. This is a favorite and the owners are wonderful people.
This is a wonderful restaurant with exceptional food and even better service. The lack of parking is compensated by fast and efficient Valet service. As good as it is as a restaurant, it is even better as a an event venue. Mike and his wife take a personal interest in ensuring their guests have the very best event. Their attention to detail and warm caring attitude alleviates a lot of the tension associated with planning an event. They hosted my son's wedding and everyone who attended marveled at the charm of the restaurant and the marvelous service.
Went here for the first time for a friend's 50th birthday dinner event held in the catering space in the side building. The service, atmosphere, and food were amazing. Would definitely go again. The only downside is that there's no restroom in the side building where they hold events, so you have to go outside and walk around to the main restaurant to use the bathroom during an event. It was ok that night because it was decent weather. Wouldn't want to do that in the winter or rain, though. Otherwise everything was wonderful and we really enjoyed it thoroughly.
I loved my dine in experience!
We had a great experience today at Barney's restaurant. Barneys is a historical restaurant in Locust Valley, New York and it's been there since 1893. I believe that's pretty impressive! They have an outstanding selection of food all well prepared and fresh. My friend always gets the Long Island duck I think it's there special. I however love the chicken pillard. It was cooked so well just perfect. Had a little bit of pasta in there and some beautiful flavoring. Really excellent dish. My wife loved it also. Also. I would be remiss if I didn't comment on the atmosphere. This is a very cozy place and it's got a historical feel very classy sitting behind the fire in the winter makes it very special experience. I also highly recommend the Wednesday price fix menu. It's like 3999 per person and you can get starter entrée and a dessert! One small minor issue is parking but it works itself out across the street. I love this place and I hope you give it a shot
Top notch, friendly fast service, really tasty brunch. The space is beautiful. I believe its a house thats over 100 years old. The fireplace was lit on a cold February afternoon. Ill be returning several times.
We recently hosted a family function at Barney's, and I honestly can't say enough good things about the experience. From the moment we arrived, the service was absolutely outstanding. Every member of the staff went above and beyond to make sure our event ran smoothly, and their attention to detail was truly impressive. We had access to a private space that was beautifully set up and perfect for our gathering. The ambiance was warm and inviting, yet elegant — exactly what we were looking for. And the food? Out of this world. Every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. You could tell that a lot of care and passion goes into the kitchen here. Our guests are still raving about the meal! What really stood out, though, was the personal touch from the owners. It’s clear they genuinely care about their guests’ experiences and take great pride in what they’ve built. That kind of hospitality is rare, and it made our event feel all the more special. Highly, highly recommend — whether you’re planning a private event or just looking for an exceptional meal out. We’ll absolutely be back!
We ordered dinner for pick up, for a birthday celebration at home. Everything was delicious and the timing perfect .

Nice decor
Charming place
Excellent food nice service. Very cozy place. I enjoyed it thoroughly. :)
Gyro sandwich is my favor. I would go again if I am in the neighborhood.
Super good food!
Good food and great service.
Good quick roadside food.
It was okay..maybe again.
very quaint restaurant. Very professional service and plating. the food was very good and reasonably prices. Ricotta gnocchi was excellent, as well as the braised short ribs.
How about a nice quiet dining room, pleasantly professional service, big drinks and hot delicious food? Not sure about the parking but cant go wrong parking on far side of Buckram Ave.
Good food and well prepared. Very good quality. We like it and will definitely be back.
We went to Barney’s yesterday for Mother’s Day luncheon, and we had a really lovely experience. The service was wonderful, very kind and gracious. They found us a quiet table despite the busy day, and the food was delicious. We had the duck and the lamb, which were both excellent. My only critique is that there was no gluten-free bread or crackers to go with the paté they were serving with the four course prefix meal. I feel like at this point in time most restaurants have some crackers or something on hand. Despite this one thing, we will certainly go back. The atmosphere is quaint and charming, which is very hard to find Long Island these days.

Nice atmosphere.
We were so hoping that Barney’s could get back to the Barney’s of old … which was a first class experience all the way around. Unfortunately, despite good service, the food was inconsistent. The duck was quite good, but crab cakes were overly-breaded and the fettuccini with shrimp was served in an insipid broth - not good at all.

great
Just not good. Very cool place. Nice people. But the food was not good.
Went here for a special birthday dinner. Called prior to going to be sure they could accommodate a wheelchair. We were advised there was a ramp. When we arrived there was no ramp but two of the wait staff graciously lifted the person in the chair up the 3 steps-but when we left we were on our own. When we arrived it was quiet but within 30 minutes it was incredibly noisy -you could not hear the other person at your table. One person in the party ordered a prime rib special...it arrived looking like a charred steak. Never saw prime rib served this way. It was sent back and the owner/manager never even came to the table to apologize. The duck dishes were very bland, no taste of raspberry sauce as they said it would have. The waitress was very nice and tried her best but was overwhelmed...took forever to get drinks and other patrons were frustrated with the service as well. Instead of the owner helping out his staff, he was too busy socializing with the regular patrons he knew. The food quality was fair and service lacking. Both food and service should be much better when paying these prices. There are a lot of great restaurants to choose from and unfortunately Barneys is NO longer one of them.
A bit disappointed with this one. Food seemed a bit dated, perhaps stuck in the 90's or early 2000's. Some technical flaws in the dishes such as a broken sauce or over salted dish. Overall, not really worth thr price thought the atmosphere was very nice.

Food was terrible. My fish was overcooked and my wife's duck was tasteless. Very expensive awful dinner. Stay away
Owner can't plan and doesn't do well with large parties. Doesn't plan staffing well, doesn't accommodate seating for large people, blames food quality on the customer, an hour and a half before orders were even taken, defends himself by saying the restaurant has been around for over 125 years and lack of staff. Party was still paid in full with no discount and owner's attempt on an apology was a 8" cake that no one ate nor wanted. Just wanted to leave. Such an embarrassment and waste of time and money.
I heard the owner of this place is very stingy with the musical acts he hires. Over worked and under paid. Not only under paid but lies about how much they will be receiving. If management is that bad I’m sure the food is tasteless too.
Purchased a gift card on December 21, 2023 - never was delivered to the recipient via email, called the restaurant over 5 times January through June - management blew me off - has still not been delivered with no refund, would not waste my time here
Something seems to have changed here...food quality and hospitality is off. Live in the area and gave it x3 separate visits to make sure it wasn't a one off experience. Such a bummer for a small neighborhood place...really would have love a go to local restaurant.
I heard the owner likes to rip off professional musicians by substantially shorting them on agreed upon rates. If you are a musician, supporter of live music, or have a heart for musicians of all walks, please consider this. To the management, shame on you. Highly unproffessional.
Terrible customer service/wait staff/management we attended Barney’s for a family brunch today. the waiter was incomprehensible, rude and disorganized. our table of 8 waited 1-1/2 hour for food to be brought. In the interim we had to chase the staff for drinks, which is terribly annoying. the other patrons were visibly annoyed as well. the bathrooms were not serviced and had no towels for drying hands. Restaurant owners: stop blaming inadequate service on Covid. enough already! if you cannot procure adequate and competent staff to service patrons, then limit your sittings to an amount that you can reasonably and satisfactorily manage. Don’t ruin patrons’ dining experience, especially when you’re charging premium rates. when we brought these issues to the manager’s attention, he was unapologetic.
Extremely Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Price This was by far one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had, especially considering the price point. Upon arrival, there was no host present. Our table was set for six people despite a confirmed reservation for five, and service issues started immediately. Bread service was inconsistent—one person didn’t receive bread at all, while later we were oddly given a single extra piece for a table of five. There was no tap water offered, and we were required to purchase two bottles of water. Drinks were a disaster: two drinks arrived first, then we waited 10 more minutes for three additional drinks, and another 5 minutes for the final one. Overall, it took 55 minutes to receive drinks. Appetizers were brought out before any drinks arrived, which made no sense. One of the runners did not speak English, making communication difficult. Service throughout ordering was messy and disorganized. At one point, wine service for Grandpa was cut off without discussion. Utensils were removed after appetizers, then placed incorrectly—steak knives given for fish, butter knives for steak—only to be corrected again. The music situation was also strange: it was either far too loud or completely off, with no Christmas music despite the season. Food quality was unacceptable across the board: All dinners arrived cold or barely warm Mom’s steak was ordered medium and came rare beyond rare, while the outside was burnt Potatoes for both Mom and Grandpa were freezing cold Alex’s chicken was cold and the salad was soggy Dad’s fish was lukewarm Vic’s steak was cold Grandpa was not given butter for his lobster, and when requested, it still wasn’t handled properly Soup was served with garlic bread placed inside the pea soup, which Grandpa did not like To make matters worse, Mom’s second glass of wine was entirely different from the first and tasted awful. Adding insult to injury, the surf and turf carried an additional $28 charge, despite the meal already being approximately $100 per person. The final bill came to $778, which is shocking given the poor service, cold food, and overall lack of attention to detail. For a restaurant at this price level, this experience was completely unacceptable. We will not be returning.
Check your bill carefully. Don't order the Caesar salad it will cost you more than you think. Appetizers are meant to be shared. But there is a toll for that. They do this to try and trick and deceive the customer. There are plenty of other restaurants that respect their customers. Stay away.
Had dinner with friends at Barney’s in Locust Valley. I ordered duck, the breast was overcooked & charred on the outside. Sent it back. Came out the second time literally raw & cold in the middle. Sent it back. By that time my companions were almost done with their dinner. I choose not to have it done a third time nor order another dinner as I didn’t want to be sitting there eating when everyone else was finished. The owner, after awhile, came to the table and proceeded to berate me loudly in the middle of the dining room for sending the food back. He created a scene in front of the other dinners. The purpose of that was what? He looked so ridiculous. So much hostility from him. He went on to state his chef was trained by a Michelin chef & this never happens. Mind you my friend had the same dinner & hers was prepared perfectly while mine was not ate-able twice. The owner never apologized & was clearly angry at me!!!! How dare I send the food back. He did eventually remove the charge for my dinner from the bill & right before we left gave me a gift certificate to come back, which I will not because his treatment of his guests was unacceptable. The issue with the food is one thing & if was just that I would not have left a review because I understand things happen. It was the owner’s abusive tirade & behavior that was the problem and so unprofessional.
