I had a very bad day yesterday 3/7/2020. I had taken my 5yo to Fresno to Monster Jam & to keep this some what to the point it was a very long day & just about everything went wrong including trying to go to a sit down breakfast place down there. Coming back towards home I decided to chance going to another Black Bear. The experience was perfect. Fast service with everything from seating to ordering & getting the check. Our server was the best ever. I just wish I had gotten her name. I will definitely go back. I also added little quirks to my order & they did it for me. Nothing big, I like my hash browns extra crispy & eggs over easy on top. It's hard to move them yourself with just your fork & knife. So yummy! :)

I went early morning just as the breakfast rush started. A party of two we were seat immediately though took a couple minutes for the waitress to show up at the table. After that ALL the service today was Great food came fast it was hot and made correctly. Even all my allergies were addressed properly. I brought in a drink and the waitress was kind enough to ask if I needed some ice to keep my drink cold. Over all this visit had no stress, no worries just a nice breakfast before starting your day. I ordered the Chicken Avocado sandwich and my husband had the Chicken fried steak breakfast with gravy eggs with browns and two muffins ..He had enough to make a second meal for later and it was still delicious cold (later)

On Sunday I had breakfast with a few friends. Friends arrived late and our waitress gave us grace. She was on point with my coffee refills lol. Then we asked if we can stay a bit longer and she let us. I completely left my phone behind and so I called and I believe I spoke to Mariana and I described my phone and screen. I asked if I can pick up later and she was totally okay with it. Not only was the service phenomenal but the employees were fantastic people. I appreciate all the extra care and attention. Thank you I appreciate it!!

Melanie was our server. She was friendly & attentive! The food was great, but when I asked for turkey sausage, she said they didn't have that but had chicken for extra charge. When I got it, they were like 3x the size of a reg sausage & honestly didn't really like the taste.

I go to many different Black Bear Diners in my travels, and I have yet had a bad experience. I can count on the food always being as I expect it should be at any given restaurant. Never disappointed.

Husband and i went for a late lunch/ early dinner.very clean quite environment.staff was friendly and accommodating, even offering suggestions. I had the chicken club on white with avocado and bacon and my husband had the tritip dip deluxe with filled mushrooms grilled onions and melted Swiss. We both had side salads. He had fries and i had a cup of minestrone soup as well. The food was excellent and so was the whole Black Bear Diner experience!!! We definately will be back again.

Went to a meeting about extended insurance coverage for R. V. ers the host was great, funny, personable. His company paid for all our meals, 10 to 12 people. And some were rude about the fact that's all they were there for. As soon as lunch was served the couple across the aisle from us got the waitress/ to go boxes and bounced!!

We had the nicest server. She had such a good attitude, I wish I got her name but she had just shown up when we did and was happy to be there. I love the novelty items black bear has and they aren't joking when they say you won't leave hungry with getting just a salad. It's loaded with ingredients. Definitely recommend the bacon ranch and a strawberry lemonade to go with it.

My daughter and I went for dinner, and we loved it! She had the ribs and shrimp dinner, and I chose to have the turkey dinner. Our server was so attentive and fun! The food arrived promptly and smelled delicious, and it did not disappoint. My daughter tucked into her meal and kept smiling more with every bite (a very good sign!). I took a bite of mine and was transported back to homemade holiday dinners. About halfway in, I realized we hadn't said a word, just made all the sounds of totally enjoying our food! We are talkers, so that was amazing. We decided to have dessert. Apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream was our choice, and it was fabulous. Homemade crust blanketed tender, cinnamon, and sugar flavored apple slices that melted in our mouths. The ice cream was the perfect cool compliment to the warm, rich filling. I can practically taste it now. Yum! Definitely goooo get some of that goodness!!

Very few places you can go to eat today that has great service, healthy portions, and good food. Always a pleasant experience. Today I had the BlackBerry stuffed French toast, and it was lovely! I highly recommend.

Went on Grand Opening to try their Prime Rib. Photo#1 is Med/Well, Photo#2 is Medium, Photo#3 is Med/Rare. Medium & Medium/Rare were basically the same. But none the less, all were SATISFACTORY. Prices were a little up there. Mimosas were were $7, just in case you were wondering.

First timer here, I've always heard about how delicious Black Bear Diner is, came here specifically for Chicken fried steak and Biscuits & Gravy. Best I've had!!! Definitely recommend this area Diner.

Loved Black Bear Dinner. This was my first time going to Black Bear Dinner, and I was not disappointed in the least. The selection of food available is amazing, and the portions are beyond huge. I had the ScramBOWL, which was a a scramble off eggs, bacon, sausage, green bell peppers, onions, mushrooms & cheese, topped with shredded cheddar cheese and served on perfectly fried country potatoes. Served with a huge biscuit that was incredible in of itself. Looking forward to returning.

I love BBD! My youngest son loves diners and really wanted to eat local diner fare. So I found one on our road trip home and brought him here! Yay! I did get whole eggs instead of egg whites in my order (-1 star) but otherwise I was happy w the meal. My kids face says it all on how he felt about his BLTA. ✌️💕

Black Bear Diner in Lodi, California is a delightful restaurant that serves breakfast entrees at all times as well as dinner dishes. The entrees are under $20. The portion sizes are substantial. We liked the meatloaf and pot roast dishes. The dinner entrees come with a side salad or soup. The first cornbread are complimentary. After that, there is a charge for cornbread. Charges for takeout bags. We recommend the huckleberry ice cream. Ample seating, good servicr.

It was like she knew what we needed before we said anything. We all loved our food and I refused to leave without a slice of their pumpkin caramel cheesecake! Black Bear Diner is one of my favorite chain restaurants. It serves up home style American breakfast and comfort meals. Even though it’s a chain restaurant they do their best to cook with real food and ingredients. The serve maple syrup and ketchup without HFCS. The Black Bear theme is super kitschy cute. There are the signature wood statues decorating the exterior and interior. Not enough to be nauseating but enough to make you know it’s their theme. Customer service was fantastic. The food came out quickly and hot. The food is classic American comfort. I dropped into this Black Bear in Lodi, CA. I was traveling through and stepping in for an early weekend dinner or aka late lunch. They got me covered with their menu that included breakfast items served all day as well as dinner plates served after 12pm on the weekends. They even offer “ little less” meals. I ordered the little less pot roast, $12.79. It came with a side of mashed potato and a side of green beans. Perfect portion size at a reduced price. The pot roast was fork tender. The brown gravy was flavorful and had a beautiful color and consistency. No complaints with the green beans or mashed potatoes. Hubs had a bowl of chili. He enjoyed it. It had chunks of ground beef and beans. Good ratio of beans and meat. And who’s counting… I am.

Holy cow I forgot how good this place is to eat at. For 16 bucks I got a meal that actually became two meals it was so big, the food was amazing, the service was top notch (our waitress was funny as heck) and the atmosphere was superb. Ask for Mary the waitress. She is bursting with personality and a very diligent server. Food is portioned to fill the plate and you should not be leaving their hungry. The only thing that made me nervous about eating there were the glass petitions between the booths.... They were filthy dirty and smeared with children's face and fingerprints. It was a little disturbing to look at when the light shines through them. Ledges are also very dusty.

Love this place, been coming here for years and will continue for years to come. Reason for not giving 5 stars is just because they are another business to be impacted by shrinkflation. Some of the item portions aren't as big as they were when I first started coming here. Big portions at a good price was the reason I've continued frequenting this establishment. We have been to the Lodi location 3 times now. Staff is always nice and attentative. My favorite thing so far is the bacon ranch. BBQ burger was a tad to sweet for me but still a nice big juicy burger. Their pickles are super good. The onion einga on it were too much onion for me but I'm picky. And their lemonade is the perfect pucker upper.

I assume they had been sitting out which is ironic given credo #3 on the flyer I found on the table. Also paid 3.79 for a cup of juice that was tiny could have bought a whole jug of juice for similar price.

The food was great with plenty of food with the order. I really had to work on trying finish my whole order. Which I did not. The waitress, well that was a little different. We were seated got our coffee and creamer, but then she never returned to get us refilled. Never checkeded to see if we needed anything until the food started coming. Even after I brought it to her attention it was not important. We eventually got some more coffee. Black Bear thanks for the food.

This is the second time I've been to one of these. The first time was in Olympia, WA and it wasn't good, but this time it was pretty good. I had the Mac & Cheese dish, our family had a mixture of fried fish, salads, chicken wings. I'd say the food was much better than my first experience. It is sort of like a Denny's restaurant. Better, but that same feel.

Love the restaurant food - is excellent. Recently took home 2 pies - coconut cream and berry. Both were terrible. Berry was inedible due to many large seeds in the filling and coconut was mostly - 70% - cream.

Food is excellent as always, but lately the service and attitude of employees has been slacking. We will get a good one once in awhile, but its not like it used to be. Getting a refill is sometimes impossible and we leave feeling like we have inconvenience them throughout the whole dining time. I still have hope it will get better because this has been our go-to place since it opened and the food is still worth it.

This is the 3rd Black Bear I've been to so far. I know a new restaurant in a town is always popular. I also know from experience that you almost never send food back to a cook if you're not happy. I had the filet mignon special for Christmas. It was not what I expected but ok. My potatoes needed to be a little warmer and could of been a little thicker. They were more Julien than country style. No let's talk about these 3 pies I bought. My neighbor said he already tried a banana cream pie and was dissatisfied with the crust. I bought 3 small pecans, one for him, our guest and myself. He was right about the crust. It needs help. There was also an overload of pecans on these things. Idk who's making them but wow!!!

Good food large portions. Very noisy lots of kids with very bad parents allowing their kids to be unruly literally 4 kids running around the restaurant screaming the whole time and the staff just allowed it. It made me very anxious and I did not enjoy my meal. I got 1 refill on my coffee so my cup sat empty for the entire visit other than the first 5 minutes. So we paid for coffee we didn't get to drink that's $8 waisted and a meal we couldn't enjoy until we took it home and reheated it. Very unprofessional

Just never ordered a sandwich and substitute fries for a cup of soup.. and when my order came to our table, there was not a spoon to be delivered. .so I asked another waiter, " could I get a soup spoon for my soup?" And he pointed to my table setting and said it's there.. I said that's my coffee spoon.. perhaps he was not trained to know what a soup spoon is.. I think the knowledge of table settings is lacking in today's society.. for that I am only giving 3 stars.. I could see the waiter and waitress giving disrespectful facial and gesture of my comment. While my wife and I could see then from our table.. degrading

I asked the manager to swap out the green beans, they were stale, he brought me a some fresh broccoli, oh yes. Than I confirmed with our waiter, that Veterans get a discount, he said yes, when he brings the check, NOPE NO Discount, ugh.

We were on our way home and decided to stop at Black Bear Diner for breakfast since it’s one of my husband’s favorite places to eat when he travels. I had never been to one before because we don’t have a location in our town, so I was curious to try it. I ordered the Classic 2-Egg Combo with sausage links and eggs. I also asked our waitress, Sonia, to add gravy to my biscuit, which she kindly did. I also had ask for hashbrown for my side dish. However, when our food arrived, I noticed my plate didn’t come with hash browns. When Sonia came by to check in, I mentioned that I didn’t get the hash browns I asked for. She then told me that the Classic Egg Combo only comes with one side dish, the biscuit, and that I don’t get hash browns with it. I could've swore, on the menu it stated it come with a biscuit and a choice of a side dish, but I maybe wrong. However, what frustrated me, because if there’s only one included side, I don’t understand why she had asked me me earlier what I wanted as a side. I clearly said hash browns, and if the biscuit is the only included side, that should’ve been clarified. Had I known, I might have ordered hash browns separately, but by that point, I was annoyed and didn’t feel like waiting. I ate my food and we left. It wasn’t a terrible experience, the food was decent, and my husband still enjoys this diner a lot. Maybe I’ll give it another try in the future and try something else on the menu. Hopefully, the communication will be a little clearer next time.

2 Stars for the young ladies doing their best . Felt very uncomfortable and out of place thanks to the locals and their constant stares. Now as far as the food it was not so good. We had a party of 9 and 7 of us agreed we would never return. My chicken strips on my waffle were just over cooked and hard. My orange juice was served in a dirty cup with lipstick on the rim. The meatloaf is far from any meatloaf I have ever experienced and it was just not to anyone's liking at our table. The ice cream is good and the burger was also good. Update: Sunday, March 9, 2025 PM It’s going to be a while till we go back to blackbear. Not happy at all with dinner tonight. We walked in…there was a sign that said they had prime rib and eggs. When I tried to order, the server said it’s not available. I said well there’s a sign out there. He said I’ll check, so he checked and came back and said oh yeah they still have it. They normally only served that at breakfast time. Well they should keep it that way because I think what I had was left over from breakfast. The worst was the hashbrowns and biscuit. The hashbrowns are the worst I ever had. They are just a soggy greasy mess. Obviously the owner never eat here… If he did he certainly would not serve this this to the public. And it would be nice if biscuit was hot and fresh. The prime rib was terrible. It was barely warm. We decided that it’s gonna be quite a while until we come back. In the meantime we will fill in with Lumberjacks here in Stockton! They did that for me. But it was still mediocre. Just terrible fish and terrible batter. I would not recommend this. The coleslaw was really strange. Kind of like the only dressing was vinegar The hush puppies were literally rock-hard! What I would recommend is for the owner/franchisee to stop in undercover/incognito and order this meal. I recommend either taking this item off the menu or reformulating it. I won’t be back. Sidenote…the biggest problem I’ve had with this restaurant in the past has been CONSISTENCY. There is none! Update: 12/25/21 Dinner The highlight of my meal tonight was my server, Anna. She was nice enough to work on Christmas day so I could have something/somewhere to eat. Other than that, my dinner was a disappointment tonight. I ordered pretty much the same dinner I had a few days ago.…the Bigfoot chicken fried steak and eggs dinner ($16.79) that comes with three eggs, your choice of toast and potatoes or grits. The grits were OK, the eggs were made to order but the chicken fried steak was miserable. It certainly was not cooked fresh. It was totally overcooked…hard and dry. The country gravy was tasteless. Not at all like I had a few days ago. The English muffin was good with lots of butter and jelly! A fresh cup of decaf )$3). And a great server. Yes, I was disappointed. Certainly not the same quality that I had previously. Consistency seems to be a problem. May be a different set of cooks. I’m not in a hurry to go back! Last time was five stars this time, two stars so I’m gonna average it out to three stars for now.

Wayyyy different experience this time. Biscuits gravy tasted burnt. Biscuits too dense & thick. Used to be nice & light & fluffy. Eggs were ok, bacon was good. Milk was fairly cold. But the Biscuits & Gravy were so bad i didn't even leave a tip this time. _--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--(0_) Their biscuits and gravy are awesome. Biscuits are big and fluffy and they have the best gravy. My only complaint was that there wasn't enough gravy....LOL

Ok service. Mash and gravy was dry, veggies were hot than my tri-tip and it wasn’t medium. Over cook and also dry. I had better days and this will not ruin it. Look at the Gravy it turn to jelly

We’ve came here a few times, and here in the last six months the quality of food has went down. The prime rib has become disgustingly fatty(according to my husband and my uncle and cousin, who have all went in separately). My steak the other night when I ordered it medium came back, looking like shoe leather, the cook remade it and didn’t even barely cook it, and it was so rare. There was blood all over the plate. It was absolutely disgusting, if you can’t figure out steak times, then you shouldn’t be a cook ! it would’ve also been nice if the manager himself because the store wasn’t even even Busy would’ve came over to apologize about the meal instead of the waitress. And I still had to pay full price for my meal, which was not edible.

Me and my husband came in for dinner tonight the food had no and I mean no flavor very Blend and under season I had Steak and eggs and the hash brown, was so hard. I nearly broke a tooth we paid too much money I was very unhappy we came to far for horrible food not right at all.my husband got the cheesecake and I think it's spoiled its so gross we had to Throw it away before we get sick. This is the fourth Black Bear diner that I have tried. The food was disgusting. Less than an hour after eating there. I have the poops. My stomach is very upset, feel like I have to puke. I will never eat at another Black Bear diner again.

Waitress didn't care about the vegetables looking and tasting horrible. Also, the pancakes were not good.

Just had breakfast on 10-5-25 at 8:30 AM I ordered the grizz I wanted sausage patty instead of links and was charged two dollars more for a patty that has never ever happened to me before at black bear before ON THE menu for sides it’s the same price for links or patties if I’m going to be charged extra for something that is the same price I will just stop going to black bear diner it was an older woman who waited on us 👎🏼 I even questioned her about it and she wanted to argue so I paid the bill then checked the menu for prices👎🏼 10-8-25 Black Bear contacted me and said they will make it right 👍 it was a mistake by the waitress 👍

Uber eats. Lettuce had dirt/sand in it, I ordered avacado in sandwich one small piece was added. French fries were hardly cooked or seasoned. Very disappointed!

Have normally had good experiences at Black Bear Dinner, but must share our Friday Fish Fry experience. Got really excited when I saw online they were offering this as I remember so many wonderful times growing and going to a restaurant with Family. The fish was low quality frozen pollock with more breading than fish. The tartar sauce was merely mayonnaise, fries were average quality but not fresh fried but limp. I think the cook had a bad night as no one was supervising his food prep, but I fault management/ownership allowing such a poor quality fish on the menu. Couldn’t believe they did not purchase frozen cod, slack it out, do their own breading? Interesting, server or cashier did not ask us how our meal was. I have never wrote a restaurant review, this is my first. WE GOT FOOD POISONING. Do not go to this location! First off, yes I am pregnant so I did not think twice about food tasting a bit “off” at first.. however after returning home my husband got sick as well.. he spent the entire night hugging the toilet lets just say. Not only that but my little ones got sick as well.. and again.. I am pregnant and was sick the entire night to. My husband ordered the omelette and I ordered steak w/eggs. Our kids had pancakes, but did try our food as well and they were vomiting all night. Our entire family.. lost a day of work over this too. Someone is not taking proper precautions in the kitchen and it cost us our health and work for the past 24 hours. We will never go back to this place even for free food!

My 9 year old love eggs denidict! However, she can't eat an entire regular order. It's just too much for her. I asked if she could just get it Ala cart or a single order. And was told no by our server, who said she would ask the manager. Still, the answer was no. Even if they did, I would still have to pay the price of the regular order. I've worked in the restaurant for over 30 years and even opened some black bear diners in the past. Customer service has always been a top priority, but obviously not at this location! On top of all that, we found a hair in her fruit bowl. Did even say anything to the server about it!
