Saturday lunch set: delicious, lots of variety and taste from the set. Had a tofu in hot soup set, and a tonkatsu pork set. Nice dipping sauces, pickles, miso, rice and salad.

Friendly staff and fantastic food. You can enjoy varieties of authentic Japanese food here. It reminded me of life in Japan for over 20 years.

Authentic Japanese food. Chicken karaage lunch set and grilled fresh mackerel set are awesome. Love to have them everyday.

This authentic Kyoto cuisine was recommended by a Japanese friend of ours. We ventured in yesterday and managed to get seats at the sushi bar despite having no prior booking. The interior is very nice and cozy. We slowly made our way through their daily specials - edamame, deep fried white bait and sashimi. For the main course, we shared udon soup and marinated salmon belly. Washed it down with sake. The food was indeed very fresh and delicious, the sashimi sublime. The bill was surprisingly reasonable. We will definitely return -- our two favourite Japanese-run Japanese cuisine places in North London have shut down over the past two years, so Shimogamo will be our new port of call, albeit slightly more distant. PS In the interest of full disclosure, our opinion was somewhat swayed by a portion of complementary unagi ;-)

Very intimate Japanese restaurant with traditional food. Great quality food in a comfortable setting but a bit pricey.

Amazing japanese restaurant that feels like one has been transported back to a quiet Japanese town. The set lunch meals are amazing.

Great Japanese food at semi-reasonable prices. Most of the other patrons were Japanese (good sign).

We tried beef shabushabu hot pot and it was fantastic. Next time we are going to try sashimi... Definitely recommend this place.

When my Japanese wife craves for a taste from home, that's our go to place. It's not cheap but you'll find japanese standards you need.

My favorite restaurant, but hot pot for one like shabu shabu, sukiyaki are not recommended.

Friday lunch. A very satisfying feed. Light, but tasty and filling. I went with a regular who ordered for me. We had a salmon teriyaki set lunch. The combination of dishes and flavours were lovely & delicate. The salmon was superb - it was all superb - but oddly it may even have been the rice that stood out. Service wise they absolutely got how to do lunch swiftly & efficiently but without losing warmth or quality. Highly recommended.

My favourite Value-for-Money Japanese restaurant in London. I'm Japanese and I can tell you the sushi here is great and everything else on the menu is totally authentic. The lunch deals in particular are a steal! Nice simple ambience as well; a nice quiet place to enjoy a meal and conversation.

Have been today for the first time, the food was amazing! I had black cod and it was something which I won't be able to forget for a while. Also tried their 7 sushi plate, fantastic taste! Prices are a bit high, but you get excelent quality food for it, worth every penny Will go back again if I can!

I go to Shimogamo with my family nearly every week since 5 years. This is a wonderful place to have lunch or diner if you enjoy Japanese cuisine. The quality of the fish is exceptional, thanks to the very skill full chef Leen who has a real passion for what he does. When you go for diner, dishes such as yellowtail tempura with shiso or 24h cooked pork belly are part of what you should try. I would say with no hesitation this is my favorite Japanese address in London. Never been disappointed once. A great place!

Great Japanese food. Not only fantastic sushis, but most traditional food is served as well: chicken teriyaki or karaage, sukiyaki, shabu shabu hot pot, aubergine with dashi, or incredible black and white roasted ones... I would just go for the salad dressing!

One of the best authentic Japanese owner Japanese restaurants. They have an amazing selection of Sake’s if you love your sake! My favourite Japanese hands down. And the staff are awesome.

Gorgeous, authentic Japanese in Camden. I've frequented many Japanese restaurants in London and found this to be by far the closest to the real thing. Fairly reasonable set lunch menu which includes lots of traditional Japanese touches including lovely earthenware. The best value is a glorious salmon lover's set at £10, which includes a selection of salmon maki, nigiri and sashimi with miso soup, and is freshly prepared by the sushi chef at the back of the restaurant. Have also visited for dinner, and had an absolutely delicious light udon broth with Japanese vegetables. Great stuff, I'll keep going back!

Some of the best Japanese food available in London, with a very impressive Sake menu too. It gets booked up, so worth reserving in advance or showing up early.

Thoroughly lovely experience. Friendly attentive service and the most delightful food. Mixed suchi, soft shell crab, chicken wings, green tea ice cream all presented perfectly in relaxed and calm environment. Thank you

Good lunchtime menu for a very reasonable price. Really fresh food and extremely tasty. Been a couple times now and would certainly recommend.

The fish (sushis and sashimis) is excellent, as the sides (soup and salad). Only the tonkatsu wasn't good enough with a dry meat.

Went here before a gig at the elecric ballroom and the food was excellent, tasty and very fresh.Nice uncomplicated atmosphere.and they even serve shabu shabu which is quite rare in uk restaurants. Heartily recommended.

Great Japanese food and an amazingly friendly staff. A bit pricey but they offer some nice lunch menu’s. The restaurant itself has not the best flair, but after 1-2 Asahi and a couple of Sake, you don’t notice this anymore 🍶😉

Came here for sukiyaki specially. It was not all ready as I used to have but more like shabu shabu that you need to put your own beef. So need to put the beef on time otherwise the meet will either not cooked, or too cooked. We had sukiyaki and shabu shabu set for lunch. For sukiyaki, it’s good to come at dinner time, as the side dishes didn’t work well for me. The sashimi set and curry with rice looks really good that I wanna try next time.

Good quality sushi and miso soup. Handy location and they do set lunches. Still, a little disappointed that they serve bluefin tuna which I hadn't realised so won't be going back.

Yummy but pricey. Service erratic. Everything tasted very fresh. I liked it. I would probably give it a 3.5 if I could.

If you ever go for Japanese food in London, make sure it is here. The first time in my life I ate sushi, it tasted awful. Cheap sushi can have an overly fishy taste and bad texture. A friend took me here for lunch and I decided to give Japanese food a second chance. If you're a newbie sushi eater (like me), I suggest you start with maki, which is thin slices of fish and rice wrapped in seaweed. The Cucumber roll is also good, but has no fish. -You have to put the entire thing into your mouth. Don't try to bite it in half! It is not supposed to be eaten that way and I ended up spilling rice. Flavours are different, but I liked it. I wouldn't mind eating here again. Even though the interior is simple, the plates are very fancy and make meals look eye appealing. The atmosphere won't make you feel like you're in Japan, but the food is satisfying enough.

Lovely food delivered with a happy and smiley Japanese vibe. Salmon rolls were to die for but they also have a wide selection of hot food as well. Minimalist decor in line with traditional Japanese style.

Cozy place and really nice staff. To be fair I'd have liked to rate this restaurant with 3,5 stars. Food is just ok but probably because we had a lot of expectations. They have a really good green roasted tea and also the green tea ice cream is good.

I was surprised to discover this hidden gem in Camden Town, which serves authentic Japanese food. It serves a range of sushi and hot food, but you will not find a large sushi range. But you will at least find the basic tradition sushi. I had the salmon sashimi and salmon roe donburi, which I have had in many places in London. But what was new to me is the rice was mixed with chopped Japanese herb which made the rice very fragrance. If u dont like strong flavour then I recommend to request it to be left off. We also ordered the beef steak hooba yaki which is beef steak magnolia leaves grilled with miso. The dish was served over a mini hot stone grilled. The sauce was full of flavour and went well with the steak. We finish our dinner sharing the assorted dessert which consisted of mango cheesecake, yuzu tart and chocolate mousse cake. I really love the yuzu tart as it refreshing flavour that suit the warm Summer weather. A great way to end a meal! A place that served nice food but depending what you order I don't consider this to be a cheap dining place.

good place, tasty food at reasonable prices for the area, and staff were very attentive. I'm vegetarian so didn't eat any of the meat, but everything I had was fresh and pleasant.

The restaurant front looks very run-down but the inside is very modern / beautiful. We enjoyed "sofisticated" food, which came with the price, of course. Please enjoy but not too much (sake.... in our case) ;0)

The lunch menus are fantastic value for money! The staff were friendly and attentive. I will definitely be coming back again.

London is not great for Asian food in general, and Camden is no exception. £50 for two people, leaving not particularly full. Avoid the roast duck salad, very disappointing. The salmon belly was good though! Nothing more to say.

Well, well. The description on Google says "upmarket restaurant" also the general reviews are quite positive so I had high expectation about this place. However, I have been disappointed. The general impression of the restaurant is a place that recently changed ownership and that is experiencing a slow decay in the quality of the environment. The food was OK and well presented but overpriced in my opinion due the mediocre quality of the service. I had better food for cheaper price in other Japanese restaurants in Soho. The only big problem was the service. The two waiters that served us were quite a disaster. The whole supper had been a catastrophic series of incidents. They misunderstood the order, forgot to serve foods that was cooling miserably in the kitchen, served to our table dished of other customers and viceversa. The appetizers were served at the end of the meal and just after we remembered them the order. They even messed up with the bill and the payment system. It is so sad because the the kitchen staff look able to do their job.

Excellent food but poor service. Make sure you order your starters and mains separately, otherwise they will come out at the same time, or as in our case, your main will come before your starter. We ordered some sushi for starter but they brought out our soba noodles and tempura first. I sent the soba noodles back to the kitchen expecting a new batch, but seems they just reheated and sent back out as the tempura was not hot / fresh and the soba noodles had gone all soft / soggy as they had absorbed all the broth. Didn't even get an apology. Disappointing. There was a girl sitting next to us by herself, her main also came before her starter, so it wasn't just a one off.

Came here for lunch because Sushi Waka was full. Ordered what I was craving for: Udon soup with prawn and vegetable tempura. Price was double of the lunch prices for tempura udon at Sushi Waka, but that's ok because I was starving and really craving prawn tempura! When it finally arrived I flew into rage. ONE prawn! Too stingy. Apparently I misread the menu - it did say "prawn and vegetable tempura". So, it's my bad! Never been served just 1 shrimp with my udon in my life but hey, the menu was right and I was wrong. Wanted to leave but I was just too hungry. Even the service staff here were embarrassed about the portion. Poor things should go out for proper prawn tempura. It's my first time here but the standard for prawn tempura is for me the benchmark of a good Japanese place. Smh!

Sushi was fresh but we ordered the pork miso and the meat tasted terrible. We asked to swap it for another dish and the kitchen wouldn't allow it. Have eaten Japanese all around the world but this place was very average. Guy serving us was nice which is why I gave 2 stars and not 1.

Called to order for collection and was told I couldn't order over the phone as I needed to pay first. I was told over the phone that the last order is at 9.30 so I took a taxi to the restaurant to order. When I arrived (before 9.30) I was told the kitchen had closed. Wasted time and money taking a taxi.

Awful Been to many Japanese restaurants, this one is the poorest. Really expensive, portion is tiny and quality of food is mediocre. Quality of service is just satisfactory. They forgot about one of our main course and still charge us for it. Real disappointment, do not try
