Absolutely loved The Ninth! The food was incredible, full of flavour and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was stylish but still cosy, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Our server was really nice, she was from Japan, if I'm not mistaken. Definitely one of my favourite spots in London—can’t wait to come back! Tried the crab tartlets, sardines on brioche, fried artichoke, yellowtail crudo (super good!), conciglie truffle and venison loin. 10/10 ❤️
We had the £38 set menu and it was delicious. My favourite was the fish crudo, the duck confit and dessert were also very tasty too. Service was on point, drinks were on the pricey side. You can get the £38 set menu if you dine before 5:45pm
Accessible fine dining that won't empty your wallet. It's not as polished as some Michelin-starred London venues, but the food genuinely delivers. We ordered the Venison Ragu, Burrata, Confit Duck Leg, and finished with Choux Au Craquelin - everything was excellent and worth ordering. We booked the early dinner offer for two or three courses, which is remarkable value. However, the limited time slot makes it feel rushed. Staff don't pressure you, but knowing everyone arrived for the same time-limited offer and will leave simultaneously creates an unspoken urgency. Despite the time constraints, it's a fantastic option for quality food in a proper dining setting.
Food was great! Starter and desert were amazing!! Especially the desert Pain Perdu, go for it it was one of the best desert I ever had. The main course, chicken I was not impressed with it but was ok.
If I could put 10 stars on the food category I would do it. It was a remarkable experiencia and one that I will remember for a long time. I recommend choosing the set menus, and not necessarily taking it with the wine paring option, although I am sure that will make it better.
Lovely dinner, food was delicious. Scallops were fresh and delicate. Both the beef cheek & tongue, and the Iberico pork pluma were exceptionally tender and flavourful. We ordered two of their pastas - the squid ink malloreddus and truffle conchiglie. Both were lovely, even my husband who doesn’t eat much pasta loved them a lot. Both desserts we had were nice but their signature Pain Perdu is a must, perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Waitress was very friendly and informative, we were not in a rush but noticed the service was a tad slow though. Can’t comment on the wine pairings as we didn’t order this.
Visited last week for the early dinner set menu. Excellent value for money: a three course michelin starred dinner for £38 per person. There were two of us eating so we tried all the meat options (vegetarian options available, but we didn't try those) The whole meal was lovely, but there was a few dishes in particular which were amazing. The cured trout starter tasted very fresh, with a simple yet delicious flavour, topped with roe. The pork tenderloin was cooked excellently, texture was almost like a filet mignon, but with the rich flavours of pork. Pain perdu with tonka bean dessert was a lovely end to the meal, not too sweet, just how I like it. The other dishes were also excellent. Overall a great restaurant, well deserving of its michelin star. I'll definitely have to come again to try the à la carte menu.
We went here for my birthday last week and we loved it. The food was fantastic and from the moment you walk through the door you are made welcome. I think they may have been short staffed this day but this did not impact our experience. From start to finish the food was incredible, the crab spaghetti though was an absolute stand out winner in my eyes!! It had the most incredible flavour and the samphire was a welcome addition, but there were little crunchy bits that simulated the feeling of eating crab, they weren’t to crunchy but had enough crunch to really give you the feeling. The pork was amazing, and lots of the lovely fish dishes. I can definitely recommend coming here, after drinks it pushed the price up, but for £35 for the set menu what’s not to like. We came here because we were told to, now I’m telling you to. 🤤
Had the most wonderful anniversary dinner here with my girlfriend! This restaurant truly exceeded our expectations in every way. The pork dishes were absolutely incredible - honestly some of the best pork I've ever tasted in my life. Every single dish we ordered was delicious, and the quality was outstanding. What made the experience even better was that everything was very reasonably priced. It's rare to find such exceptional food that's also completely affordable. The combination of amazing flavors, generous portions, and great value made this the perfect spot for our special celebration. The entire evening was magical and this restaurant played a huge part in making our anniversary so memorable. We'll definitely be returning and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for fantastic food at great prices. Thank you for helping make our anniversary so special!
Had an amazing set menu dinner there last night with some girlfriends. Beautiful place, superb food. The only "wrinkle" on an otherwise incredible experience was the fact that when we booked the dinner, the price of the three-course option was £38. However, when we arrived a month later, the price went up to £44. What??? Nearly 16% increase in ONE month?! Also the 25% (!!!) service charge was added to our bill, which is obviously ludicrous. It is discretionary though. Apart from that, it was a beautiful dinner and the waitresses were very friendly.
Absolutely loved The Ninth’s set menu, such great value for a Michelin-starred spot. Serving French-Mediterranean style dishes, every dish was delicious and beautifully crafted. The service was warm, the atmosphere is relaxed and romantic, perfect place to celebrate my birthday. Had an amazing dining experience there!! Highly recommended.
Had a truly outstanding lunch at The Ninth. Every dish showcased top-quality ingredients treated with real respect — the flavours were clear, vibrant, and perfectly balanced. The cooking was impeccable, precise yet unfussy, letting the produce shine. What really elevates the experience is the front of house team — warm, professional, and effortlessly attentive. Easily the best FOH team in London. Together with the kitchen, they create the perfect all-rounder: food, service, and atmosphere in complete harmony. An absolute gem — can’t wait to return.
We had such an amazing night here! Every dish was absolutely delicious — I’d especially recommend the truffle pasta and the Iberico pork. The service was outstanding as well; the staff were so warm, friendly, and uplifting. The décor and atmosphere were elegant yet cozy, making it a perfect place for a special occasion. Highly recommend!
Went for the £38/3 course lunch (available on weekends too and 6pm) which I thought was superb value. We were a group of 4 so managed to taste every course on the experience menu and my absolute favourite is the dessert Pain Perdu, shortly followed by the iberico pork as a main. Would def recommend - the decor was pretty on the point too. A good choice without feeling pretentious
Great Michelin star restaurant and not pretentious. We went for the set menu and wine pairing. The highlight was the pork and pain perdu. A bit disappointed with the sole as it was not very special but overall all dishes were perfectly executed. They have a good wine selection as well. We had a great time celebrating my partner’s birthday.
amazing food, they looked after us so well and the food was to die for!!! highly recommend, we had the set menu for lunch
The food is great value, service is what you would get at a much more expensive restaurant, and the atmosphere was spot on. The beef main was rich and delicious.
Superb and good value for money. Loved all the courses from start to finish. Portion sizes were generous with good protein, vegetables, and carb calculation. Very carefully designed and measured to be a proper meal. For this reason, this restaurant would be good for special occasions, friends gathering, dates as well as a regular meal after work. Culinary skills were well displayed. The presentation was good but not pretentious. Enjoyed the timing that they paced out between the courses of the tasting menu, not rushing at any point even if it would be tempting to receive more walk-ins when they could. Fish and meat courses were genius.
Can we have more than 5 stars please! This place is a must for true gourmet taste exploreres. Every single thing we ordered was fantasticky delicious. There was a lot of attention to the balance of the tastes so your palette is in for a treat. We started with the sourdough bread and butter of course. Then on to sardin and marinated aubergine, cod roe on focaccia. The sardin was prepped simple and the aubergine in a magical marinate. Next came cured sea trout which was amazing, followed by spaghetti alla Chitarra with Cornish crab which was delightful but may be a bit salty for my taste. For main we got Iberico pork tenderloin with chimchurri and truffle sauce. The meat was so tender that it brought lamb to mind. Grilled sea bream was perfectly cooked and the sauce was amazing. You would never think of char grilled cabbage and kolrahbi being this good with their miso and furikake sauce. And to finish up this royal taste journey, we had sour cherry ice cream which was divine because it was truly sour cherries and not cherries and poached rhubarb, strawberry, yogurt and lemon balm. Congratulations to the chef and his crew for such an outstanding venue and service.
A Taste of Perfection: The Ninth Delivers a Culinary Experience Dining at The Ninth on Charlotte Street, the Michelin-starred restaurant helmed by Chef-Owner Jun Tanaka, is a masterclass in elegant, yet approachable, cuisine. With Head Chef Filippo—formerly of the Michelin-starred Goring Hotel—now in the kitchen, the team is clearly firing on all cylinders. Our meal began with a stunning duo of starters. The Burrata, Datterini Tomatoes & Pickled Gooseberries was a delightful surprise. The creamy, rich cheese was elevated by the brilliant contrast of the tangy pickled gooseberries, a combination that proved both inspired and delicious. My partner's Spaghetti Alla Chitarra, Cornish Crab & Fennel Crumble was a beautiful dish. The pasta, while perhaps a touch firmer than al dente, was perfectly balanced by the sweet Cornish crab and the fragrant fennel crumble. The main courses, however, were the true highlight. My Iberico Pork Tenderloin, Green Beans, Chimichurri & Mustard Frills was, without exaggeration, the best pork I've had in years. It was so tender it simply melted in my mouth, a testament to exceptional cooking and high-quality ingredients. To complement our mains, we chose a glass of Valpolicella, Brigaldara, Piedmont, Italy. This young, versatile red, with its vibrant sour cherry notes, proved to be an excellent and surprising match for both the rich pork and my partner's fish. Speaking of which, their Grilled Sea Bream, Garlic Aioli, Baby Gem & Caper Berries Salad was a masterpiece. The fish was cooked to perfection—a wonderfully crispy skin giving way to moist, flaky flesh. It was a dish that celebrated simplicity and expert technique. Finally, a moment of weakness that I have no regrets about: dessert. I rarely have dessert, but the Pain Perdu & Tonka Bean Ice Cream was impossible to resist. This was an exceptionally delicious end to a flawless meal. The ice cream was a revelation, and we both agreed we could have easily devoured another portion. The Ninth continues to earn its stars, offering a dining experience that is both sophisticated and deeply satisfying. #doctorfoodielondon Nick
Great 3 courses pre-set menu for a quite reasonable price for the quality. A must for a more informal, but not simple, lunch time. Delicious.
Exceptional Mediterranean dining in the heart of London! The Ninth offers a perfect combination of excellent food, attentive service, and an ideal location that makes it a standout culinary destination. Their outdoor seating area is particularly charming - I thoroughly enjoyed my meal in the sunshine, creating the perfect ambiance for a relaxing dining experience. The authentic Mediterranean dishes showcase genuine flavors and techniques, demonstrating real culinary expertise.
Dessert so goooooooooood, Love the Pain Perdu and Poached White Peach,Ice Cream&Mint oil. Also recommend the grill cabbage and risotto.
Another fantastic lunch at Michelin starred The Ninth. Love this place. Great, flavoursome food, well executed, complimented by friendly service. Fab buzzy dining room too. Awesome value with three courses for £38. The perfect place for a laid back lunch.
I booked ahead and would recommend doing so, where the restraunt was fully booked during our visit. There was quick service and seating at the enterance where you are escorted to your table. The menu had al carte or set menu for lunch of £35 pp for 2 courses or £38pp for 3 courses there are additional add ons of £6 for sourdough or gluten free bread with butter or £12 sides like 1000 layer potatoes etc the cocktails were £8 each and soft drinks varied up to £6 each and a discretionary service is applied so expect to pay 2x pp if you want the full experience and to provide the well deserved service were the staff were balanced providing attention but not invasion with a steady beat of how frequently courses were provided expect to spend around 2-2.5 hours here I had the gluten free options of gluten free bread and butter, the burrata which was delicious it had Tart flavoured accompaniments of pickled onion, Gherkin and cherries with tomatoes both yellow and red with a high quality flakey sea salt oil and dressing - absolutely amazing. The main was iberico pork loin with greens and green beans which was perfectly cooked and juicy we had the add on of thousand layer potatoes they were crunchy and addicting with a delicious smoky alioli type sauce and to finish the amazing cherry ice cream with creme Fraiche All with a few mocktails called the ninth it was cucumber, apple, mint and elderflower and so refreshing and couldn't stop at 1 had to have a couple each The menu is well thought out and inclusive for a variety of food lovers being more elaborate with adds ons if you prefer so amazing experience will look to come back and highly recommend
Came here for set menu lunch on Sat. Overall the food was pretty good. The only problem is it’s 32 degrees and no AC or fan, many people fanning themselves with the napkin. Good food, but it’s too hot to enjoy it fully.
Great/delicious food and nicely plated. We had sharing plates which is quite new and we did leave full so no complaints there. The pain perdu was my favourite dish! I highly recommend that and it did not taste like any other french toast....it was beautifully crisp on the outside but the brioche was so soft and airy on the inside with a lovely tonka bean ice cream to be paired with.
It is our third time here and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch! I think we have tried almost everything on the lunch menu which is seasonal. We love the crab and seaweed tartlets, carpaccio with pickled fennel, burrata, chargrilled sea bass, lamb ...... The Pain Perdu and crispy potatoes are the must-trys!! Service was great! We will certainly be back.
I had an exceptional dining experience at Ninth! The Sea Bass was cooked to perfection and paired with special potatoes that were absolutely delicious. The highlight of the meal was the incredible Pain Perdu, which I highly recommend. The service was outstanding; the staff were knowledgeable and accommodating, especially with my dietary restrictions due to pregnancy. They took great care to explain the menu and suggest suitable options. I didn’t have any alcohol, but the attention to detail and customer care was impeccable. I highly recommend Ninth for an unforgettable dining experience!
I visited the restaurant for a pre-theater dinner with my teenage son and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is excellent and service extremely attentive. We particularly enjoyed the spaghetti starter - we felt transported to the Mediterranean. The mussels tempura are bursting with an ocean flavors. We also loved the dessert. The poached orange and rhubarb paired so well with the rice pudding - we felt being transported to summertime. We thank the chef and front house for an amazing dinner!
Service was great and the staff were very nice, the lunch menu was great value. All the dishes were great except the braised beef, it was so rich that we both felt a little sick for a few hours afterwards and couldn't even finish it. Still a great experience though.
We came for a Team dinner on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was busy but not loud. We had the booth at the back and the delicious food just kept on coming. The kitchen was kind enough to make separate dishes for me to accommodate my wheat and dairy allergies (HUGE THANKS FOR THAT!) & it was all wonderfully fresh tasty food with fresh ingredients. I would go again!
Their set lunch menu is really worth it because the quality of the food is amazing 🤍 loved the pasta as a starter and the chicken as main ☺️ didn’t get to try their dessert because the staff was kinda rude to us and the service was super slow and they also put us downstairs while everyone else got seated upstairs which was strange, as there was plenty of room. When we asked them about it they said they randomly assign tables when you make a reservation and didn’t offer to make up for it. also I got food poisoning a few hours later, don’t know if it was from them or not 🤷🏻♀️
Had the set lunch which was excellent value for money. Ingredients were fresh and the food was perfectly presented. I enjoyed the crab pasta starter. But there was nothing about the food that stood out. Even the recommended potato side dish was very unremarkable, not something I'd dream about. It was overall a very pleasant and above average experience but forgettable.
For a Michelin star restaurant, the attention to detail left a lot to be desired. The food was meant to be shared, but the table for 4 was not level. The restaurant staff seemed very overworked, when they did find the time to attend to us, they were very sweet. We had the tasting menu and the food was mostly excellent. We had requested some customisation to the tasting menu, it was gracefully accommodated, but we were charged extra in the bill. The charge was promptly reversed when we pointed it out. Overall, enjoyable food, but certainly not worth a repeat visit, especially given the prices.
Enjoyed the lunch set course which was tasty and good value. However, it was a pity that most of the food we had were on the salty side, so much so that it overpowered the other flavours more than we’d have liked.
I enjoyed the meal but was stunned to find out when we left that they had a Michelin rosette, the service certainly wasn’t of that standard and the food wasn’t worthy of acclaim.
A little cold. Exceptional service and knowledge of menu. Lovely cosy place to enjoy team gathering/lunch. Would recommend the pain perdu. Great lunch value and hospitality from the team.
Went here for an anniversary recently, and got the chef's menu. The food was high quality, and ranged from good to excellent. The pork was tender and delicious, the potatoes with a spicy mayo were incredible, and the dessert was really tasty (somewhere between a bread pudding and french toast). The service was polite, however it was an incredibly hot day and we got room temp water, asked for ice, and it took about 15 mins to get that ice. Upstairs has air con, downstairs not so much. The starters and fish course were just ok, and on balance, compared to similar menus and experiences we've had at other places, I'd probably rate this as overpriced, and lacking in a particular specialty that made it stand out.
Good experience overall but I expected more from the price and a Michelin star. The bread and butter was good but pretty basic. Crab and seaweed tartlets were too salty to me. The cured scallops were amazing! Probably the best dish of the set. The truffle spaghetti was delicious, I would love it to be a bit more creamy but still it was great. The Dover Sole was just okay to my taste and nothing more. Iberico Pork Pluma was great - very tender and rich in flavour although the sauce was too salty. The Pain Perdu dessert felt too simple but it was delicious to me. The wine pairing was okay and I expected more. Maybe roughly two wines were really good and interesting. The service was fine overall but they did not even take our jackets. I don’t think I would be back unfortunately
Sunny but covered spot for lunch on a weekday! Their weekday lunch offer of 2 courses for £33 was well worth it for a quick lunch meet up. We got the crab and seaweed tartlets to start - my favorite bite of the whole meal actually. I could have had 10 of those. Then we had the pasta and the sardines. Both delicious, but the sardine toast stood out to me as the toast was perfectly crunchy against the softer salty sardine. Sadly, the mains were just alright. I'd definitely come again for the starters and I would have a lower expectation set for the mains.
Had a wonderful birthday lunch on the terrace at The Ninth. It’s the kind of place where you’re invited to slow down and let the food speak for itself. The burrata with beetroot, radicchio and plums was elegant, though a little salty for my taste. The Jerusalem artichoke and mushroom risotto was beautifully done — creamy, perfectly cooked, and full of quiet confidence. Dessert, a Pain Perdu with tonka bean ice cream, was balanced and comforting, with a lovely birthday touch in chocolate from the kitchen. The staff were gracious, even when busy, and the atmosphere felt calm and sincere. A truly enjoyable meal, best savoured without hurry.
Great food - only downside was that we mentioned it was our anniversary - the table next us (also an anniversary) got a desert and a little message, we did not. Just put a downer on the whole thing
Good service, food in general is nice but we were disappointed overall. The crab and seaweed tartlet was a let down. Very small and over cooked at 3.80 each. Expected to have fresh crab meat at least. Second let down was the Dover sole and rainbow chard. Looked nice but the dish was so overcooked the fish was dry and like eating cardboard. Could not finish it - we did feedback to let the chef know. It was probably the worst piece of cooked fish we have had in a while. Definitely not worthy of a Michelin star, sorry to say. The Roe deer was cooked perfectly and was very nice. Yellowtail was nice and fresh. Also enjoyed the beef cheek and tongue. Dessert was decent and have to say the service was good. They also did not charge us for the dessert due to the issue with the fish dish
Food was okay Service was very good, the ladies (Japanese girl and another girl) were very helpful Birthday cake fee of £10 pp While the food and service were up to the standard expected, we left feeling uneasy about the way the charity donation was handled. When the bill arrived, we noticed an automatic £1 charity charge added to our total. The server informed us that we could have it removed if we didn’t want to pay it. Although it was just £1, we felt put on the spot—especially since it was a birthday dinner and we didn’t want to create a fuss or delay by asking for a reprint of the bill. While I appreciate restaurants supporting charitable causes, the way this was executed felt psychologically manipulative. It places the burden on the customer to actively refuse, which can be uncomfortable in a social setting. If the restaurant genuinely wishes to contribute to charity, a more transparent and respectful approach would be to donate a portion of their own proceeds and simply inform diners—rather than automatically adding a charge to the customer’s bill. Overall, the experience left a sour note on what should have been a special occasion. I believe a establishment of this caliber can find a more ethical way to support charity without making guests feel pressured or guilty.
Food is not bad but hmmm underwhelming, for a Michelin starred restaurant. It would be a pleasant surprise if I walk into a random place with this food but I came for a reason... Service is non-existent. On the ground floor only all but one person is new to their job. I have to actively ask my waiter to order and have to wait a long time for my food. That being said, the lunch set menu is probably still worth is but just don't expect the “wow"
Food was amazing but the service really let down our experience. We came for the set lunch for a Freinds 50th as read great reviews. I had to ask for a drinks menu as they only gave us normal menus we d finished our drinks after our main was served, had to ask again for wine menu. Noone at any point even though we had empty glasses came back to take our order we actually gave up having another drink.n phone came back either to check our meal was ok I d also asked for a 50th celebration little sign to go in the dessert which I gave at the beginning and said which friends birthday it was. They mixed up this andput it in the wrong dessert and bought it while the other one was in the toilet so was bit of an anticlimax ..they then bought a happy bir6plate half an hour later. Such a shame service was awful as the place is lovely and food is amazing
I got the 3 course 6pm meal. The started was good, the dessert was a highlight but main was so meh. I got the Hake and it was honestly 1-2/5. Dry and not very flavourful other than a very mayonnaise tasting dressing and my friend got the chicken who said he was on par with Nando’s. we both agreed the desserts (brûlée and pain perdu stood out as the best). The starters of ricotta and mackerel were really good and quite large for starters but nothing spectacular like the desserts. Giving a 3/5 because the mains were so disappointing
We went to this restaurant and we were so disappointed. I’d like to think that we have experienced very good restaurants through the years in different countries and know what good food tastes like. This restaurant was not it. I’m actually completely confused with their one star Michelin rating. I’ve been to one star Michelin restaurants before and that was not at all on the same level. Some of these dishes I can honestly cook myself or find in another much cheaper restaurant. We took the chef’s menu for dinner. The pork was good and the fish was well cooked as well. The pain perdu was fine. But none of it was interesting or Michelin star worthy. For example, the pasta was tasty but I could have the exact same dish at a much cheaper Italian place. A lot of condiments were reused throughout the meal and didn’t make sense. The crispy potatoes with that sauce just wasn’t good. The bread and butter… they could’ve done something with that butter but no, we were serve a slice of bread with regular butter as a starter. When you go to a Michelin place and you take the menu, you’d expect to have entremets in between courses. You don’t get this here. Service was nice but, again, not Michelin star level. Overall, disappointing experience. I wasn’t expecting to pay that much for something so average.
I visited The Ninth recently and was quite disappointed. The food was overly salty, and overall the flavors were not well balanced. For the price, I expected much better quality. Also, a 15% service charge was automatically added to the bill, which made the experience feel even less worthwhile. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.
