The Goring – My London Home from Home (If My Home Had Five-Star Service) I've stayed at The Goring quite about five times now, and each visit truly feels like returning home—if home offered five-star luxury, exceptional staff, elegant interiors, and a fantastic bar and restaurant. From the moment I arrive, the team welcomes me like an old friend, always finding the perfect balance between refined professionalism and heartfelt warmth. Their attention to detail stands out, from the beautifully prepared rooms to the anticipatory service that often knows what I need before I do. A special mention must go to the bar team, they are, without question, one of the highlights of every stay, and a special mention to Billy who has been fabulous every time with a warm welcome back, great service and his amazing drinks knowledge. He never stops working hard to ensure everyone is taken care of and will even create a cocktail personal to you – mine tastes great! Not only are they masters of their craft they’re also warm, witty, brilliant company and make every visit feel like a celebration. The rooms themselves are charming, classically styled, and impeccably clean, with each one offering its own unique character. A delightful touch is the cuddly sheep named Barbara waiting in every room for guests to take home (I'm slowly building my own flock!). During turndown, Barbara often gets into playful mischief—these thoughtful details set The Goring apart from other hotels. The staff continually go above and beyond for guests. On my last stay, Sean from Concierge helped me with a last-minute request for a private Black Cab tour of London for my visiting family. I assumed it was a long shot, but Sean made it happen, providing us with a memorable afternoon exploring London with our own guide. The Goring isn’t just a hotel – it’s a place that remembers, delights, and surprises. That’s why I return time and again, always leaving with a smile, another Barbara to add to my flock, and plans already forming for my next visit.
Absolutely amazing place. I don't believe I've ever had better service and consistent. Every staff member made us feel special. Attention to details in the design and furnishings was remarkable. We really, really enjoyed our stay and would book again on our next trip to London.
Excellent lunch in the restaurant. Impeccable service. Beautiful decor. The classic charm of the waiter Francesco really topped it off. Thank you team. Thank you Francesco. We'll be back soon
My sister and I stayed at The Goring for eight wonderful nights in April of 2025, each in a Belgravia suite. The outstanding service at The Goring began two months in advance of our trip with Housekeeping emailing to ask about our preferences for still or sparkling water, type of bedding, room temperature, etc. Then concierge services emailed to offer their services for planning our week. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by Mr. Michael Voigt, the General Manager, and Ms. Samantha Lopez, Guest Relations Manager of The Goring. I have never seen, much less met, the manager of any hotel I've ever stayed in before as they're usually sitting in their office. Not so at The Goring. Every day I saw both Mr. Voigt and Ms. Lopez chatting with guests all over the hotel. The high level of service and hospitality starts from the top and permeates all of the staff at this hotel. Everyone seems genuinely happy at their job, and they all have kind words about their employer. The location is truly special. Many of the five star hotels in London are on major streets with plenty of noise and pedestrians. Not so on quiet Beeston Place where I slept straight through all eight nights with no disturbances from the street or adjacent rooms, despite jet lag from traveling eight times zones. With flowers in every room, afternoon mocktails, embroidered silk wall coverings, giant Rococo chocolate Easter eggs, fabulous food both for breakfast (orange yolk eggs Benedict I will never forget) and for dinner, it was a wonderful stay. And, thankfully, they don't perfume their lobby! I found a parting gift in my room our final night - a priceless jar of The Goring's own strawberry jam. A perfect stay at a perfect hotel - I hope to return one day!
I had the best meal ever ! It was amazing x the service was outstanding ! Will definitely be going back ! Was so impressed a great find !!!!
We went to afternoon tea at the Goring and it was absolutely exquisite - we sat in the sunny windowed area that looked out onto the back garden. Service was attentive and respectful; the tea, finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries were incredible, and we were always asked if we wanted more (we could not manage more food, but we were sorry we couldn’t). Loved the atmosphere and everything about the afternoon tea experience here - highly recommend!
We visited The Goring Hotel for our 30th wedding anniversary lunch. What a beautiful hotel in the heart of london ! Whilst the dining room refurbishment was stunning, we were more impressed with the exceptional service of the staff in their smart velvet outfits !! From the concierge welcome at the entrance to Abbeys wonderful greeting at the restaurant. This was followed by superb attention from Sophia, Francesco & the excellent Marin, all of whom are all clearly invested and proud to represent The Goring with such distinction. The meal was exquisite and presented beautifully. This was followed by tea in the garden to round off a really special day. Thankyou to everyone at The Goring Hotel!!!
I had afternoon tea here and every aspect was a pleasant experience. It was raining and cold, but the veranda was still beautiful so I'm sure it's a sight in the warmer months. I am lactose intolerant but was planning to eat whatever they offered. Upon hearing this, the waitstaff had the kitchen make different sandwiches and gave me different desserts as well. All of this was not necessary but also very nice.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, with immaculately presented rooms and exceptionally helpful staff throughout. Before dinner, we went to the bar, which was lovely - super relaxing with great drinks (highly recommend the margaritas!) Both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were delicious. As someone who is gluten intolerant, I was initially nervous about dining somewhere new due to past negative experiences at other restaurants. However, my concerns were quickly put to rest thanks to the incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff. While there wasn’t a dedicated gluten free menu, our server took the time to explain which dishes were naturally gluten free and which could be modified to suit my needs. I was even served gluten free bread to start at dinner, which is such a rarity when dining out. Can’t recommend the hotel enough!
We stayed at the Goring Hotel this June and we absolutley loved it. We felt as though we were staying at someone's beautiful home . The design and decor are truly one of a kind. Be sure to check out the beautiful wallpapers, dishes and flowers of this beautiful hotel. In particular, Richard took great care of us and greeted us night and day when we came in . The bar is a beautiful blend of cozy and charming but had a feel of an amazing cocktail bar. Please stop there and have a drink. The breakfast was delicious. The location is central and you can walk to two theatres or Buckingham place and Westminister Abbey. The staff moved our little sheep all around every night. My only advice is to book a king bedroom or upgrade to a larger space. I was in room 30 and it was small ( as I expect all rooms in Europe to be) but would have upgraded had I known. ( my fault). Enjoy tea or sit in the garden if you have the time. I will be back to this hotel again. Thank you Goring for an incredible experience
It was a good experience having stay there Room service is exceptional staff is nice n cooperative
Just finished a fantastic stay at the Goring. It was our first time visiting the hotel, a special trip for my mother in law's birthday. The staff were so attentive even before we arrived, when I emailed about the birthday and they said they'd leave a bottle of champagne in her room with their compliments. The staff couldn't do enough for us and were friendly, efficient and obviously great at their jobs - giving us a brief tour of the hotel on arrival, showing us to our rooms personally, fetching black cabs to the door for us and arriving with an umbrella to the taxi door in the rain! The hotel rooms were beautiful, with lovely touches like the little Goring sheep to take home, a gorgeous turn down service and other treats like lip balm, pillow mist, fruit and even a jar of jam! The ambience in the bar area was lovely, with great cocktails and bar food too. The live pianist on Friday night provided a warm atmosphere, which never felt stuffy. The dining room was closed for renovation during our stay, so we had breakfast in the Veranda - the food was delicious with plenty of choice and again, nothing was a problem for the staff. Lovely views of the garden. Location was super, a short stroll from Buckingham Palace, Victoria etc. Everywhere was really accessible. Though expensive, it's well worth the money and the personal touches throughout. I hope I get to return in the future!
If you ever are lucky enough and get the opportunity to eat at The Goring Hotel do not miss it. The food was amazing, the staff were fantastic and the hotel is so beautiful. The staff even gave us an Anniversary card that they had all signed with a hand written message from the Maitre'D. It was also extremely good value for the experience and the food we had. This is a very special.place. Very highly recommended.
Amazing hotel for afternoon tea. Had an old friend from the USA come to visit and we started at Parliament Square, walked through St James Park to Buckingham Palace and then to the Goring Hotel for afternoon tea. It was her first time in London and was an absolute treat. The sandwiches were all very tasty, balanced, and unique. The scones and cakes were lovely. A great selection of tea, and tea service. Many places leave you to pour your own tea and that is not the case here. They came by to pour our tea without interrupting our visit. I cannot wait until my next visit.
We had a wonderful time staying at The Goring, the room was amazing. My wife loved the freshly cut flowers, thank you. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. Your Christmas 🎄 decorations are always fabulous. The breakfast is some of the best we ever had staying in a hotel, the tea selection is amazing. Thanks The Goring, we will be back soon again.
What can I say...we had our wedding at the Goring 3 weeks ago. Absolutely outstanding in every way. Staff amazing, rooms fantastic, service incredible, decor perfect, food delicious. Many of their team have shown passion and care for what they do. What an incredible place. Trying to find an excuse to have another big event there again. Thank you - Love James & Jenay
I have seen and experienced a great deal in my life. But the warmth with which I was welcomed in this hotel from the very first moment – all the way to the greeting at the bar by Luciano – was truly breathtaking and simply impossible to top. Hats off to The Goring. Simply world-class.
Here is a concise, refined review: This hotel is a long-standing London institution, and returning once or twice a year is always a pleasure. Its sense of tradition and occasion is genuinely heart-warming. The staff are exceptional, and every stay feels special.
It was really nice, right when we walked in the restaurant the Hostess Sofia was so sweet and she definitely deserves a raise. Overall the service and food were wonderful would definitely recommend and meet Sofia if you want top service.
Afternoon tea here was so lovely. I made a reservation ahead of time. Dressed smart casual. The service was impressive. I debated doing tea elsewhere and I’m glad I came here! If the HRH Princess of Wales deemed it good enough for the night before her wedding, it’s good enough for me!
Exception service! I just visited The Goring hotel for drinks and to inquire about afternoon tea offerings for my family. I was served by a wonderful Sicilian man. I think his name is Andre. He was professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable. He showed me the gardens and afternoon tea area. I'll definitely be back with my family for afternoon tea. An exceptional 5-star service. Highly recommended.
Love, love, love The Goring! Excellent service, exceedingly comfortable rooms, super quiet (so much so that on the first night of my stay, I slept for 14 hours) glorious bathtub, excellent food and drink, great location, v warm atmosphere; immaculate vibes all around. I so look forward to my next stay at The Goring. Long live Barbara!!
This is an exquisite boutique hotel that is at once opulent and intimate. Larger hotels are celebrated for their afternoon teas but in my experience The Goring is by far the best of all. The dining room is intimate and you have the sense of being in a private garden. The quality of the savouries and cakes are superb and much better to others which are in bigger establishments. This hotel is a jewel in the city.
Impressive decoration and service. You can tell it’s a hotel following the heritage of British aristocracy. Live piano in the lounge was enjoyable. The Indian waiter didn’t know his whisky but no big deal. Would come back for the setting and attracting the right kind of people.
Just had lunch and it was wonderful. A beautiful restaurant with excellent service. The food was absolutely terrific. The chef really knows his business can’t praise him and his staff enough!
I recently had afternoon tea at The Goring and it was a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the place is full of character and history, which makes it feel really special without being overly formal. The service was impeccable throughout. The staff were attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was just right. In fact, they were actively encouraging us to have more tea, sandwiches, and cakes, which made the whole experience feel very generous and welcoming. A fantastic spot for afternoon tea if you’re looking for somewhere classic, comfortable, and full of charm.
What a wonderful place and very well trained and kind staff. I had an afternoon tea here and loved the food, atmosphere and the pleasant attitude of the staff. Must visit.
Fantastic service/location. Staff are super helpful, friendly and efficient. Food and drinks in the bar area superb - great atmosphere in there on a Friday/Saturday evening
We had the best experience at this beautiful venue. Thank you for looking after us for my birthday celebration. Special mention to Martin and Braida who made the day memorable. Thank you
The Goring Hotel is incredible. The staff goes above and beyond. Months before my trip Sean emailed me with all of my questions and always offered his help. The breakfast each morning was delicious. Again, the staff made my experience perfect. The hotel is situated perfectly in London. I am looking forward to my next visit. The afternoon tea is wonderful!
I eat here as much as possible. The restaurant serves exquisite, beautifully made food that I rate as being the very best in London. Still the last great family owned Hotel left in this vibrant metropolis.
What an experience! The hotel is sublime and the personal, let unobtrusive service is the among the best we’ve had at luxury hotels in London. The Goring is a very special place and has an incredible team. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!
We live nearby and frequently have supper in the Goring's dining room. They have just redecorated the space and it is lovely. My husband and I enjoyed the best beef Wellington we have ever had. Delicious! Great welcoming service as always. One of our very favorites.
Did Tea here. 100% recommend just a bit pricey
The Goring Hotel is immaculate. My wife loves it as much as I did. The staff was incredible. We had a delicious breakfast each morning. We are looking forward to our next visit. The decor is wonderful!
The Goring is everything that an incredible hotel needs to be . I’ve was fortunate to stay four nights and was truly delighted , thank you so much Goring and staff. The service is impeccable but definitely retaining genuine warmth and a wonderful consideration of guests . It’s a boutique family owned hotel , passed down through the generations , that has crafted a standard of hospitality that’s spot on . Very British and not in the least pretentious . The food on offer has been wonderful ! The rooms are excellent too , again reflecting a particular warmth . They’re uniquely styled , my room had an incredibly beautiful silk wallpaper . The location is superbly quiet yet right in the centre of London . Thank you Goring for doing what you do so well , you’re individual and remarkable .
Charming luxury in the heart of London. The Goring achieves the almost impossible by melding exquisite luxury with humour, approachability, and a family atmosphere. While some high end establishments can leave one feeling admiration rather than true comfort, The Goring embraces you with its quirkiness and homely charm. The service is exemplary without ever being smothering and the food ranges all the way from hearty to delicate, depending on your whim. The dining room has been redecorated since my wife and I's last visit, and is worth the price of admission alone having been absolutely transformed. Easily the best hotel in London.
My Wife and I came here for evening cocktails and bar food. We found the atmosphere to be very genial, relaxed and strangely like we had been here before (we haven't). There were some young children around but they were very well behaved and added to the homely vibe. The hotel facilities are very clean and well maintained. All Staff were very welcoming and helpful, with the explanation of the drinks being particularly good. The signature cocktails were beautiful, complex and varied and the food was very high quality. Drinks can be taken in the garden until 9pm. Will definitely be on our return list when in London.
By far the best hotel in London imho. The service is impeccable and the staff are incredibly warm and friendly - how they remember every guests name is beyond me! The kitchen experience is fantastic and the dining room is lovely! You can’t go wrong at The Goring.
Afternoon tea was lovely! Staff were very attentive and friendly. Tea, food, and champagne were superb.
We visited The goring yesterday 7/10/23 for an afternoon tea as part of a birthday present for my Mother in law. The staff were attentive, personable and professional. The hotel was beautiful and clean. My husband and I have had afternoon tea in another very well known high end place before and I felt out of place where as I did not feel that at The goring. We did not give the rooms any stars as we did not but the dining room where we had our afternoon tea was lovely. Mr and Mrs Drake
Have been several times for drinks after a day in London. Very good service, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere in the bar lounge and a lovely way to end the day. Drink menu is very good with a range of wines, spirits, coctails and hot drinks. Never disappointed.
Always lovely service and a very nice vibe. Often come here with colleagues for a drink or a nice pot of tea! It would be nice if they allowed well behaved dogs into their garden too!
I was only there for the Tea Service. It was a lovely experience. I'm from the US and very unfamiliar with the Afternoon Tea service. The staff was so gracious and didn't belittle me or create a tense situation. They were attentive and kind and I absolutely intend on coming back when I make my trip back to the UK next year.
Enjoyed a wonderful evening in the Goring Hotel Bar with impeccable service from bartender Josh. Classy setting, beautiful decor, historic atmosphere and true British ambience. Josh makes a truly authentic "Queen's Cocktail," favorite of Queen Eliz II. Bar menu had delicious food selections to offer, as well. Live music and not too loud. FIVE STARS all around.
Amazing hospitality. Incredible luxury, 5* service here at The Goring - always. Very much looked after and after speaking with the GM, he kindly put my drinks on the house. I believe the only family owned 5* hotel in London. And you can see the difference. I’ll be back again soon.
True 5 star. Rooms, service, food and drink all exceeded our expectations. Thank you.
Upon arrival whilst checking in we were bullied by the doorman to empty our car immediately, this was a 3 way conversation with reception, concierge and receptionist. Having travelled from central france we were very tired and found this completely unnecessary. We were advised that the traffic wardens were very strict. So it was imperative that we moved our car quickly. However we were constantly interrupted by the doorman whilst checking in, it was awful. Not the best start to our stay. The room was adequate, and very clean, the champagne, fruit and welcome cards were such a nice touch. The service was average with an undertone of stress by some of the staff. It was disappointing to hear staff arguing among themselves about hotel guests. We can do without that to be honest, if staff have a problem please do not talk about it where other guests can hear. Mr Baptiste was a lovely host and it was our pleasure to meet him. Overall the staff were very kind and friendly. A note caution please be aware of over charging, we stayed 2 nights, and were charged for 4 nights parking. There is no audit trail for meals and drinks just a global sum, so we have no idea what we we're charged for or was it even correct we have no idea. The predetermined room rate service charge seems to produce a staff conflict on the issue of tipping this needs to be resolved it has nothing to do with guests who are staying at the hotel. Overall nice hotel that quite clearly has staffing problems. It's overpriced for what is offered. Would we stay there again? Probably not we would give the completion ago.
The Goring Hotel is a 5-Star Hotel with fabulous intimate service. Breakfasts are amazing. My wife and I reserved an executive room and we were told that we were upgraded. However our room, although beautifully furnished and comfortable was very small and therefore disappointing. The bathroom was tiny. We expected better, but enjoyed our stay.
Visited for afternoon tea. The hotel itself feels special. The decor is expensive and very tasteful and it has a quiet and private grandness to it. The garden is charming and lovely to sit and have a drink in. The service was very good. The afternoon tea was tasty and they offered more of anything but it wasn't special. It looked very ordinary and the cakes weren't great. The scones were the best bit of it. For the price, it certainly didn't stand out as one of the best afternoon teas I have had.
Overrated for Sure: go to the Cs: Corinthia, Connaught or Claridges F&B The Big 3s: Food: great (though cold) in-house made mince pies; lovely vegetarian and traditional sandwiches Service: started strong and weakened as servers disappeared; started with not pouring our own tea and by the end I finished asking for tap water; nobody offered refilling teapots with hot water or any extra pastries; strange that the scones come with the sweets as a single course; added touch of in-house made mulled red warm wine; Braida was the best for the first half, but then she must have disappeared to a break as we never saw her again; staff seemed very tired by our 1530 appointment of explaining the way the service works here, and I said "I'm not sure how you're going to enjoy getting through the holiday making memories for guests if you're already over the tea scene" Ambience: light background music did not match the holiday feel and was very upbeat for a romantic afternoon tea room with twinkle lights and holiday spirit; while the hotel boasts Christmas, this room Veranda held nothing of the holiday but the plastic fern in plastic pot on each table
I recently held a private party at The Goring for my parents’ 80th birthday. While the venue is undoubtedly prestigious, the experience was a bit of a letdown for such a landmark event. The food was visually stunning and very sophisticated, yet the actual taste did not live up to the presentation. It felt like a case of style over substance where the flavors were quite bland despite the fancy descriptions. For a celebration of this caliber, we expected the meal to be a highlight, but it was unfortunately very forgettable. Service on the night was generally very good, but we hit an unexpected snag regarding our professional photographer. Even though we were told at the time of booking that bringing our own photographer was perfectly fine, the staff on the day seemed quite prickly and awkward about it. Dealing with that unnecessary tension was frustrating when we had specifically cleared it in advance. The Goring is a beautiful location, but between the underwhelming flavors and the mixed messages on policy, it only earns three stars from us.
Honestly, it's going down hill. I've stayed here a handful of times and every time they had original persons help the service was great. They are hiring the new arrivals now for customer service and it's frankly awful. No customer service abilities, hardly can understand them, it's a shame it's going down hill. When you book a 5star hotel, you expect the staff is capable of handling simple tasks of making reservations for you while you're staying with them before hand.
