Great local pub with fantastic food. We had the pub burger, patty melt, and curry bowl. Everything was tasty, and our server, Angel C, was exceptional. Give this place a try!
If you haven't been to Firkin's yet then you're missing out! Great service and some of the best bar food I've had in a loooong time! Service: 10/10 I'm one that always sits at the bar, it's just more prompt service in my opinion. I came during an early afternoon on a Friday and it was empty other than 2 parties that were also sitting at the bar. I sat down and was greeted within 5 minutes and offered a drink. My bartender was very kind, patient, knowledgeable of the menu and great at recommending menu items. Ambience: 10/10 It doesn't take much to impress me so the brick interior and wood finishes stirred up a warmth within me and made me stay when I saw how empty it was (there were two parties of two people there), because a low turn out usually means the place isn't the best, not with this establishment fortunately! Simple and clean, I would trust eating here. Overall this establishment has very simple decor, but feels welcoming. Food: 9/10 Fried zucchini is a hit! Seasoned and fried to perfection, each bite just melted in my mouth. This will be my go to when I come back in the future. Wings were ok, if they start to offer dry rub options I would definitely come here just for the wings and beer! The wings were cooked great and maintained their succulent juices, but I'm more into naked or dry rubs and the fact that the wings had zero flavor ruined the experience for me. I also tried their vegan ranch and to be honest the taste is great! But I don't care for how watered down the ranch is. The heart cake is a big no for me. I tried the one piece side option and overall I couldn't wrap my taste buds around it. The taste was too powdery for me and the cake did not go well with the tartar sauce it was paired with. The pickled onions did give it some life, but not enough to make me want it ever again. The clam chowder is amazing!!! It's a strong second in the best clam chowders I've ever had and that's only because I've had clam chowder at the San Francisco pier. There is a herb that I could taste, but can't figure out what it is! It keeps this chowder from ruling the number one place on my personal chowder chart, but wasn't enough to ruin the whole experience. The soup and bread (OMG the bread!) was simply the best part of my Firkin experience! I tried a guava wheat beer and it was surprisingly tasty! I normally don't enjoy can beers, but I enjoyed this one very much! I then ordered the LB beer lab blonde they had on tap and enjoyed that one as well, but I love blondes in general so I may be biased. I will definitely come back here! This has been the best bar food I've had in such a long time.
This place was a last minute find that worked out sooo well. The food was great, the service was great and the back patio was perfect with our dogs. The fried pickles were delicious
As a vegetarian, I was super excited to try The Firkin because of all their vegetarian dishes and they did not disappoint! My favorite dish was the Buffalo cauliflower which I could have eaten all night. The bread was good to, if different, and my main meal was light but filling. I had the Parmesan salmon with veggies and even the vegetables were nice and tasty! The best part about The Firkin may just be their patio. It is so charming and dog friendly!
The Firkin is fantastic. They have done slight upgrades to the restaurant to give it a more modern feel, which has improved it a lot! The outside patio has been remodeled to look more modern and it’s much better now. The food and service is just as great and you still get the same pub vibe. I’ll be glad to come back.
Great atmosphere! Outside and inside seating, with a nice selection of draft and bottled beers. The most impressive part to me is the food menu. A huge selection of food, with about half available for vegans! I got all vegan food and it was delicious, but if you're with omnivores there's plenty to eat for them as well. A great, local pub, will definitely be back.
Curry bowl 10/10. Tofu is out of this world. Great local IPA on draft. Service best in town.
Great atmosphere, great food for everyone (vegan, vegetarian, carnivores), friendly service.
Air conditioning with lots of seating options inside. The food is really very good. They have a huge menu and options so for vegetarian and vegan as well. They have a great bar with huge draft beer and craft beer selectio s. They also have a a nice patio out back if you prefer to sit outside.
Exceptional food and service. Me and my hubby were served by Ian (I think, guy with tattoos that just had got back from Europe) truly attentive and excellent. Loved his beer and food recommendations. Went above and beyond!
Dog friendly. We go here with our daughter's family and our 2 small dogs for Brunch everytime we visit Long Beach. Great food. Seating with water bowls and treats for dogs on a lovely patio.
I go to The Firkin with my Capoeira buddies after class for delicious food and great company. They have an awesome patio with cozy firepits, and you can always catch your favorite game on one of their many TVs. We usually walk in about an hour and a half before closing, and Kelly always makes sure we get our orders in before the kitchen closes. She even remembers all our preferences — who drinks soda water, who likes still water, and who doesn’t want ice. By the time we sit down, our drinks are already on the table without us having to ask. Our group is so grateful for how warmly this place welcomes us every time we come in after training. The service always feels personal and genuine. Food-wise, I highly recommend the Goddess Salad with heart cakes — soooo good! I also love that they accommodate my special request: a plain salad with a turkey patty on top. And if it’s cold out, definitely try the Hot Toddy — it’s perfect. Thank you to Kelly and the whole team for always making us feel special!
Always a good time at the firkin. Their menu is super inclusive, good non alcoholic options like rogue cbd drinks, good options for gluten free people, and tons of vegan and vegetarian options. The serving sizes are huge too. Also, the back patio is really cute ♡
Staff and owner are great and super friendly. GREAT ambiance and diverse patronage. Solid food and beverage options. Great pastries! The-best-spot.
The Library Coffee House is such a cozy cafe! We loved coming here to study and read. There's such a wide array of food and drinks (including Mexican hot chocolate) and fun food items. We did have to stand around for a while waiting for a seat despite the large number of tables - there's are just so many people. But that's indicative of the comfort of the space.
One of my favorite spots in Long Beach, so far. Just a roomy, chill cafe with a library aesthetic. The coffee is fine, the food is warm and made at your request. They also have a variety of pastries. There's free WiFi (with purchases) and there's plenty of electrical outlets for patron use.
Such a wonderful coffee joint. Not only is the coffee tasty and the food (breakfast croissants are TASTY) great, but they couldn't be more welcoming to patrons looking to stay and work for awhile. I have never seen a more concerted effort to get power strips and extension cords run to every seating area they could. Even at late hours of the night, when I'm passing by it's always busy! Long Beach loves the Library.
Very boho, relaxed kind of reminded me of the seventies, and surprisingly comfortable. There were lots of seats and tables, but you could still hear your coffee companions. conversation and the food and coffee was affordable. Nice mix of ages, young people on tablets,, older people engaged in conversatio, and single people reading or scrolling. Good place to meet friends or just to be around humanity to enjoy people watching.
The coffee here was great. There is a little gift shop and a few arcade games. The only issue is their indoor seating area is closed off and there are no tables inside or out. I was really hoping to sit and enjoy the vibe, because the interior was cool and the baristas were very nice. I will go again when I’m back to visit!
I don't know but has to be the coziest well lit café I've been too. Visited on a Saturday night on the start now of the college semester nearby, its amazing. Quiet not to noisy, big enough for big crowd but does get filled. Tea I had sweet and a lot of variety. And the service (pretty sure it was the owner) and the staff was kind, approachable, honestly amazing such sweet personalities. Just wish we had more cafes like this around. Parking a little tight in the back but was able to find a spot. Recommended to come back again. Plus good working wifi love it.
I loved my visit to the Library Coffee House! The mismatched chairs, bookshelves, and artwork on the walls create a charming atmosphere with tons of character. It was refreshing to spend time in a cozy and eclectic coffee shop rather than a trendy or sleek/cold environment which feels more and more common these days. There is plenty of space and seating to sit solo or catch up with a loved one. Most importantly, the drip coffee was smooth and delicious. Although I didn’t order food, they offer an extensive cafe-like menu and I was very pleasantly surprised by the drink and food prices. Very reasonable and fair ($1 refills :-)!) I felt very welcomed by the friendly staff and the service was also fast and warm. The wifi was reliable (in the case you’re there to remote work) and as a South Bay native, I left only dissatisfied with the fact it has taken me so long to discover this place. I will absolutely make an effort to visit many, many times again.
This is the place I looked forward to every morning on my trip. So kind and efficient. The croissants are like heaven and the cheesecake is insane. Even my kids ice cream was delicious. Plenty of tables and always a great vibe. Large selection of drinks. Definitely will return next time we are down. 🌀🩷
“In thy youth wast as true a lover, As ever sighed upon a midnight pillow.” You have arrived at the LIBRARY. ;D The Library is a cool hippy coffee shop on the corner of East Broadway and Redondo Avenue in Long Beach. They offer a breadth of coffee, tea and drinks as well as breakfast items. Its interior as the name denotes is full of bookshelf with variety of books. Similarly, their vintage light fixtures and furnitures adds to the coffee shop’s personality. Furthermore, it’s spacious albeit lacks natural light. It was my first time here and it seems it’s the most popular cafe in the area. I was warmly and ebulliently greeted by a female staff; I perused their menu and decided to get a Hazelnut Hipster and Egg Croissant sandwich for a late breakfast. Both were bloody fantastic! Prices were fair and highly competitive. Free wifi. Plenty of street parking available. Fellow visitors were cordial. Atmosphere was very relaxing. Overall, I enjoyed my dine-in experience and food/coffee. I recommend you visit if you’re in the area.
Where do I start?!?!? It's such a great feeling to find a gem in a big city like Long Beach!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED our visit to this cozy spot! I WILL DEFINITELY take a trip again to visit here!! I live about 40 min away and I think it's TOTALLY worth your time and money!! If you EVER get a chance to check this place out? DO IT!! you will NOT REGRET IT!! It's a unique place to visit, go on a hike at the beach then visit. Go watch the sunrise then visit. Impress your special someone on a first breakfast date! Visit with your friends and family. Take your books to study or just chillax, I promise you, you will enjoy it!! The food tasted amazing, even though I just had a breakfast croissant and regular coffee, the croissant tasted freshly baked fluffy and flaky like I love it. The eggs were equally fluffy and the bacon on point! Coffee was perfect, not crazy strong that would cause my hair to straighten or not too light that it wouldn't give me the caffeine kick I need. The ambience is so soothing and serene, perfect for feeling at ease and tuned into a good conversation, or a good book.🥰🥰 I wish that I'd live close to it, it would easily become my favorite spot to visit. The people that work there (seemed to me) slightly serious but they offer great service and are very professional. They were also genuine, helpful and generous. When we walked in it was very early in the morning around 6:30ish. We were greeted with the aroma of coffee and freshly baked bread or pastries. We realized that there were some hot, right out of the oven, chocolate croissants,. You could see some steam coming out and some melted chocolate on the sides.🤤🤤 I will definitely have some the next time we go. 😋😋 We made a big order and, unlike big chain restaurants, they got our order perfect on one try! So, if you ever want to check out this awesome place, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE and GO!! I hope you like it as much as I like it now! 🥰🎉😋💖
My favorite cafeteria! I am from Mexico but when I come to LB I always make my home-office in this place. It is beautifully decorated, the personal are very friendly, the ambience really helps you to study or work and the food prices are okay. They have water always available and you can be there as much as you want. I recommend you to try the matcha latte and carrot cake <3
edited: "the" vintage study spot—my friend's matcha drinks were... questionable, lookin more like pastel-teal coloured milk, but the caramel brownie bar was decadent. maybe i'm losing it, cause the caramel had this weird gochujang-like aftertaste, but the bar itself is delicious—a lil hard to cut into but very rich and fudgy. seems like most of their pastries are lovely, and its surprisingly budget-friendly here too, next on my list is their cake slices; recommended to visit!
Such a cute and cozy coffee shop! They have tons of seating, free Wi-Fi, great coffee with several flavors, and bakery/deli goodies. Coffee/food: 7/10 So to be fair I only tried the coconut latte with milk substitute and the strawberry cheesecake (I was prepared for the consequences of consuming dairy that day). The coffee was pretty darn good! It didn’t come out piping hot so it cooled down pretty fast, but I finished it quickly enough to avoid it getting too cold. I think they could be just a bit more generous with the flavor, but the hint of coconut was noticeable enough to enjoy it. The cheesecake itself was decent, but the strawberry compote on top was not. Part of me thinks it was ruined from sitting in their fridge without being covered. What people don’t always realize is food dries out when left uncovered in a refrigeration system and it can also absorb smells/tastes of other uncovered foods that share the refrigerator space. Not sure if this is why it came out so bad, or maybe it’s just my taste buds. Service: 10/10 Top notch! The cashier was super patient, polite, knowledgeable of the menu and allowed me to custom make my coconut latte because I don’t like mocha (the only coconut option I saw was a mocha based coffee). She was the only person I interacted with so that’s unfortunately the only comment I can provide. Environment/ambiance: 9/10 Super cozy! Lots of cushioned seats, even a couch, tables and chairs! The cushioned seats look like they could use some cleaning, but I don’t easily get grossed out and I sat on the couch without an issue. Dim lighting for a calming atmosphere but it definitely made me sleepy! I was only there for 45-mins trying to get some work done, but the late night and dim lights got me so sleepy that I decided to call it quits and head out. Next time I’m going to make my latte extra strong. Overall this is such a cute and comfy coffee shop to chat with friends and definitely a go-to study spot. I will be back for sure.
I travel around the country checking out coffee spots and was really looking forward to my visit at The Library in Long Beach, and woke up at 5:30am to assure I got there shortly after they opened. Initially this place has the looks and feel of a great coffee culture spot, that is, until you see the digital billboard menus with like a million food and drink items listed. Although put off by the tacky menus, I was determined to like this place. I ordered a large cappuccino and an egg and cheese english muffin for dine in. I got nestled at a table near the window while I waited for my order. Order came up quick. My cappuccino was in a to-go cup. This is a huge pet peeve of mine: cafes who have actual mugs not using them for sit in service. I should not have to request a mug if I’ve made it clear I am dining in. I sighed to myself and took my order to my table to enjoy. The cappucino was horrible! Watered down and scalding, scalding hot. The egg and cheese sandwich looked unappealing, but it tasted good. What a disappointment. I gobbled down my sandwich and threw out the cappucino so I could hop the bus to go to a nearby coffee spot that I know is good. Three things The Library needs to do to be worth a visit: streamline the menu (get rid of 75% of the food stuff); dump the tacky digital menus; and focus on learning to make quality coffee drinks. The service was meh.
Service is great!! Atmosphere is awesome!! But the food was horribly horribly toxic. Just an FYI. Liquid smoke is not meant to be used the way the cook is using it. Wayyyyy too much. Absolutely disgusting food.
Not really open until 10 always. Was super excited to try it after spending hours trying to find a place my friend was okay with. Just wanted a quick bite. I guess if they are slow they close as early as 9. Made me think of all the nights I had to stay open until the posted time because the restaurant owners I worked for didn't want to put '11 or until close M-W' as I suggested, because they didn't want people to show up and see me cleaning behind locked doors. I don't mind if it has to happen for financial reasons, just list the end time as 'until close'
First time here with some friends. Very disappointing. We frequent a lot of the places on Broadway and we like to spend quite a bit of money at the places we enjoy. We decided to try this place and it looks nice inside. However, the bartenders were very smug and not very friendly. We ordered an appetizer, the cheese fries. They were basically undercooked soggy fries with what tasted like a cheap cheese whiz sauce. We were ready to order a big meal and spend some money. With the lousy cheese fries and especially the smug bartenders, we decided to leave and go spend our money across the street where the staff is friendly and the food is good. We won’t be going back to this place.
Really disappointed with my experience at The Firkin in Long Beach. I ordered the fish and chips expecting a solid pub meal, and what came out were basically four tiny, burnt fish sticks for $20+. Completely unappetizing. We also got the chicken tenders — decent size, but they were burnt too. On top of that, we had to ask three different servers just to get ketchup. By the time it finally showed up, the fresh food we’d ordered was already cold. Overall, just a terrible experience from the food quality to the service. Definitely expected better.
I want to like this place, but unfortunately the service seems to get worse every time I go here. As a local and former regular, it's disheartening to feel like you don't want to go out to eat somewhere because of the attitude you receive from the staff. Their food is usually pretty good but just not worth it for the hostile environment.
I stopped in for a quick drink and was shocked to be charged $16 for a single glass of white wine. Nothing special about the pour, no premium selection. There are plenty of spots in Long Beach that offer better value. Won’t be returning.
Came in with my friends that are regulars. I understand that Long Beach is very communal and locals only and blah blah blah but to me, the service was completely complacent. My friends are regulars but my friend and I were not. I asked simple straight forward questions and the female waitress acted annoyed. We weren't greeted with menus until later. It's a simple question to ask how things are prepared. We had fries delivered to the table. The cheese sauce was gritty, the fries were undercooked. She rudely asked the plate to be moved over for the wings. She asked if we needed anything and I said salt. She rudely said "I was just about to get that." Avoid the blond with long hair. Either caught her on a bad day or she should get another job. Ruined my night, money and time.
This place is a wonderful ma & pa cafe of sensual delights, but there needs work to be done. Nazim has no idea how customer courtesy and complimentary solicitation is provided in the United States, a country obsessed with customer courtesy and complimentary environments. When you have a long time customer who is refused such a gesture of thanks, the pleasure is difused like a firecracker, or simply snuffed out like a candle, and the customer stops giving tips and stops being gesticular. The prices are exorbitant 😵😵💫😵😵💫🤯🤯 $6.00, $7.00, $8.00 for a cup of "specially made" coffee, using ingredients anyone can buy from the grocery store, is technically not a specially made cup of coffee. Peppermint Patty is the name that sounds delicious but there's nothing special about dashing a few splashes of pepperment liqueur into a regular cup of coffee. A single slice of cheese cake is $7.00 plus, when anyone can buy an entire gourmet cheese cake for that price, and enjoy six slices instead of one. A gallon of petrol is almost that much! $7.00 can buy an entire meal at KFC or at Bueno's Italian restaurant or a three piece meal at the chicken shack. The prices at the Library Coffe Shop in San Diego is by far ten times better in its prices, which I have added with a photo. This is how prices should be for coffee and sandwiches and other delicacies.
