Very good place for congee (rice porridge) Has all the options for toppings you could want. Prices range from $8-11 for a bowl. During covid 19 they have the option to call in or you could place an order in the front where they have a plastic protective guard. They are kinda busy sometimes but will help you. They speak English as well. The food taste as authentic cantonese/HK as you can get without being in country. Recommended!

Super clean, focused restaurant with a small menu that they execute well. I appreciated the congee has sufficient ingredients in it compared to other restaurants serving congee. Great experience, huge portions, and service was excellent!!

This place is great, huge shrimp wontons, delicious congee. I eate at this place on a cold day. Dah best! Inside eating is a little small but you can I always take it to go.

The best place to order take-out or delivery from when you are feeling down and sick! They have good heart-warming congee and a variety of options for you to order from. The plain with chicken is my go-to congee. They give a lot of meat. I also like their rice rolls. Chewy! They take cash and card. Indoor dining only. I came in the late afternoon in a weekend and I thought that the breakfast rush was over- until several parties showed up after us and the whole place was filled! They have tables for 2-4. Idk if you could fit bigger groups. It’s really small inside and a tight fit. Parking Parking lot is free and shared with the other stores in the plaza.

I love that I live pretty close to this place. I get the fish ball congee every time I come here and it never disappoints. This place is great on a cold, rainy day. It's true comfort food.

For soup, congee or lo mein, The Congee can't be bettered. Their pan fried beef stew rolls are amazingly delicious: gently browned rice rolls covered in chunks of beef stew, and sprinkled with a bit of green onion. They offer a good selection of soups, lo mein and congee with a choice of ingredients like, shrimp, beef, wontons, pork, and more. The service is friendly and quick. The decor and seating is pretty simple...but the restaurant is clean, and the food is tasty. Prices are moderate.

Decent price. Good Quality congee. Lots of congee. Friendly staff. Nice light snack stop for night time outing.

Only congee and noodles, fair price, tasty, ample parking in rear

Best shrimp wontons, these things are massive and loaded. Noodle soup isn't overly salty, decent flavor, good value. Congees are great, also with plenty of the "stuff" you want and pay for and less of just rice and water filler than the competitors. Love the beef fried rolls too, if you haven't tried them yet you'll wonder how you've been here and haven't ordered them before.

It’s an amazing place for authentic Cantonese noodles and congee. The best part of my meal was this chili sauce! I bought a jar 🫙:)

First of all, Big WOWs. Wow wow wow. I can’t believe this food is takeout. Takeout food is the best quality to enjoy. I don’t know how even I will be able to describe when I have this soup dine in. The Best. Simply the Best. No explanation is needed. If anyone is near Alhambra, please stop by this amazing place. Stay Healthy, Be Safe, and Be Well everyone! Have A Blessed Day! Bosco :)

This place has some of the best congee I've had on the west coast. The seafood congee was very well balanced and had a generous amount of variety.

First time here. Ordered the wonton soup, wontons are huge with simple and flavorful broth, and enjoyed the special pan fried rolls with chili oil on the side. Service was quick and attentive, parking available in the back.

Name of the place is pretty tongue in cheek, but the congee here really is fantastic. However, they are oddly missing a few staple foods that goes with congee, namely Youtiao and Chaofun. Over all, price is great, parking isn't bad, if you are craving congee you can do a lot worse in SGV.

K
Kendrick Khoe

Wow that was excellent stuff. The wonton is gigantic! Beef congee was top rate.

Love this place! Always packed for good reason. The 牛腩湯麪 (Beef Flank Soup Noodles) is amazing - perfect broth (my Korean friends found it salty, but I think it's just right). The 皮蛋瘦肉粥 (Preserved egg + Lean Pork Congee) is a must-try - even my picky friends loved it! *Pro tip*: The beef flank noodles come with super tender 牛筋 (beef tendons). Not into tendons? Just ask for extra meat instead. Gets crazy busy, so I usually grab takeout. Heads up - they now charge for to-go containers, but honestly the food's worth it. Been coming here for years and watched them grow from cash-only to the popular spot they are today.

M

The wontons were huge, packed with generous filling—not just pork, but big, juicy chunks of shrimp. The broth was flavorful, though I think it could use just a touch more salt. Overall, totally worth the $15. Can’t wait to come back!

When we parked, we had trouble identifying the restaurant. From the parking lot, the only sign we saw said “海皇粥粉麵” and we were able to verify it was the right place by looking at old photos from other reviews on Google Maps. Shrimp Won Ton Noodles in Soup ($12.90): The shrimp wontons are indeed as big as other reviewers said. The soup came with four giant wontons packed with shrimp. The soup was delicious as were the wontons with no off flavors that I've had before at other places serving similar style wontons. The gailan/jielan (Chinese broccoli) in the soup was super tender and worked really well with the dish. Beef Stew Noodles in Soup ($12.90): The beef and tendon in this noodle soup were cooked to ultimate tenderness without the beef becoming stringy. Great flavor and excellent texture. Fish Tofu with Special Sauce ($10.25): This tasted like and had the texture of a light fried fish ball. Interesting to try, but probably just the once for us. It was paired with a spicy topping that worked well with the fish tofu. Special Pan Fried Rolls ($9.95): These are rice rolls are similar to steamed rice rolls but rolled tightly into cylinders and then pan fried and tossed in a sauce. It's like he fun / chow fun but many layers and rolled up. These were good, but we wished we spent $2 extra to get the Beef Stew Pan Fried Rolls. Oyster Sauce with Vegetables ($7.25): This was tender gailan (Chinese broccoli) cut into thirds and topped with oyster sauce. They were tender and cooked just enough. The bathroom situation was not ideal. The bathroom itself was locked (by accident). After they unlocked it, they cautioned not to use the lock on the door or the bathroom might end up locked again. There is a latch on the inside of the door to keep it from being opened when occupied. The bathroom is used for some cleaning storage and there were paper towels overflowing the wastebasket and no soap in the soap dispenser. After I informed them of the soap problem, they remedied it by putting a bottle of hand sanitizer in the bathroom.

The wontons here are huge! Each wonton contain 3-4 shrimps in it, very succulent. The beef stew is also very tender as well. Food orders comes out quickly after order even on a busy lunch hour on Saturday. For take out orders the food is still hot and fresh tasting, they don't let food sit till cold or luke warm. They take phone orders as well, kitchen is very organized and fast like a well oiled machine. I ordered at the counter waited about 7-10 minutes to get my order. Take out orders were well packed with chopsticks, napkins, chili oil, red vinegar by default. Menu is in English and Chinese, while staff speaks English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

With the name "the congee" you expect some really good tasty congee. This restaurant definitely pulls through on that and served a delicious bowl of flavorful congee. Got the duck egg and pork variation and wish I could have had another! The wonton mein with house fish balls was just as good and satisfying. The wonton were packed with shrimp and tasty; this soup dish could stand alone in its own restaurant! The salt and pepper wings were freshly fried and had a decent amount of seasoning. I wonder why we're given all flats and no drumettes though? Chinese thing? hmmm. Regardless, decent prices keep this place honest and people like me coming back consistently.

Very simple little shop with so many options of congee. Tired their chicken congee & wonton + fish ball soup and it was good! The congee’s chicken was very tender and mixed with the congee, it was dry chicken tasting. Very filling and everything came hot temperature. Reminded me so much of a congee shop in New York. Worker was super efficient and friendly with so punctual with both Chinese and English which did not make it hard to ask for details of what the item is on the menu. Everything was reasonable if not cheaper priced than in the Bay Area. So worth coming to visit if congee is a craving to anyone. Very spacious as well. Gonna have to try their noodle soup next time!

J

The wonton noodle soup was average but the wontons were huge, (4 wontons). The noodles was thinner than how I like it. The dumplings soup was good and the pan fried rolls was good, (reminded me when I was living in HK grabbing a midnight snack at a food stand outside of our building). I definitely will come back to try other things on the menu.

The doneness of the pig liver is perfect! The beef brisket tangos with the cheong fan! The standard is similar to a Michellin place in HK!

Congee has a small menu but it specializes in congee, noodles & wonton soups, and lo mein. I ordered shredded pork & preserved egg congee and shrimp wonton noodle soup. Both items were delicious. I was impressed that the wontons were big and have a good amount of shrimp inside. I am definitely coming back to try more items. 😊😋

Food is good. Service is nonexistent, and the wait staff can be a little rude. We ordered an abalone porridge and then afterward they came back saying they ran out of porridge, which is surprising for a spot named The Porridge. But then they came back and gave us a bowl of runny plain porridge. And then a few minutes later they worked some magic and brought over the abalone porridge we originally wanted. It was good.

Decent food, congee tasted good. Hubby ordered got mixed up, tho. Even though he pointed at the picture, somehow they gave him the wrong one. Plus, we were too tired to go back and complain. Still, it was pretty good. The place looks clean and very organized.

A typical hole in the wall noodles shop. The core products are the unusually large wonton noodles, liver soup, and abalone congee. Not recommending potstickers. They are just ok, a bit blend. The quality is above average but would need to repaint the wall and clean up the decor.

A good spot for some authentic congee and noodles, just like in Asia. My Seafood Congee had a generous portion of seafood and the rice-water ratio was on point. It just needs the Chinese Doughnut to complement the dish. Service is minimal and perfunctory. The open kitchen lets you see how your food is prepared. The feeling when I walked in was just like going back to the vintage restaurants in Asia. You're here for the good food, not service or decor.

I love congees. When I saw The Congee show up on my search results when I was in Alhambra. I want to try them. I was there before lunchtime. So I got a table right away. They're well known for the congee and wonton noodles. Ordered 2 wonton and beef stew lo meins. The wontons are huge and each serving came with two. The beef stew had lots of flavor and tender. Extra $2 for more noodles. The price is perhaps higher than other similar stores but I find the quality much better.

I was craving for congee!!!! We ordered the ginger and beef congee which was alright. I still prefer ground beef congee, but they don't have it. We also ordered wonton noodles. The egg noodles was a little soggy, but the wontons and broth were good. The lo mein was a no no. Make your own egg noodles and mix it in oyster sauce. Overall, food was good but a little overpriced for the quality of food.

It was better before. The wonton soup was done right in the past. Now its a bit watery where the taste of the vegetable dominates instead of the shrimp before. The hard core liver congee had lesser and smaller pieces. Hope it was a single incident. Revisited 2022 Nov. Prices have gone up. $12-15 ea. Tasted about the same. In all the decade+ that it came to exist, never renovated so the facility is edgy on the wrong side. Formerly known as "Wonton Time"

I have been a customer of this establishment for many years since it opened. Their food quality was very good. The wanton, beef stew, lo mein and preserved egg pork porridge were among our favorites. Whether take out or dine in we went for was never disappointing. I bought take out today. To my surprise, the wanton is no longer as good as used to. The shrimp and pork in it are dry and tasteless when it should be smooth, crunchy and full with flavor. The lye that makes the noodle Al dente overwhelmed my mouth with an unpleasant taste. The ingredients quality as seemed are no longer as good and fresh as they sed to be. I don't want to speculate why it is. But I no longer have the mood and urge to go back again. For the price I paid, it no longer is worth it.

F

Compared to last visit, quality of food has gone downhill tremendously! The broth of both Wonton noodles & Stewed beef brisket noodles tasted very blend/ no taste. In addition, they used chuck steak instead of beef brisket possibly it was cheaper meat and more profit at their end. Although the wonton still maintain good quality, it was a very disappointed meals. My family & I will not return to this restaurant again!

J

This is the restaurant we always visit when we come to LA. We ordered a Wonton noodle soup again this time, the Wontons still taste good ; however the soup base is tasteless. We felt very disappointed, and we will never go back again!
