They have great vegan options too 🌱 They even have vegan fish which is so cool 🤩 Honestly, the price is a bit too much, but it’s LA after all 😅 The VRUIT wasn’t very flavorful, but the SPIDER SERPENT was amazing 😍 The deep-fried soft-shell crab gave it such a nice texture, and the sauce was sweet and salty which I loved 😋✨
Brought my little cousin here on a Saturday night for her birthday. Little did I know it was happy hour so prices were amazing for the value! The quality of food was amazing, atmosphere was so cute, and Moji, our server, was so kind and attentive! When I told her it was my cousin’s birthday, she brought her the cute (and delicious) little mochi dessert 🥺 Thank you, Moji! This is my new favorite sushi spot in DTLA!
Excellent friendly service...many sushi options...dog friendly is a big plus (there is a menu for you your dog, my lil man loved his salmon and rice).
My first time at the arts district location and what a great experience! Everyone working was so lovely, especially our server Mike, he was wonderful. The music was nice and the atmosphere was so chill and relaxing. Really amazing specials here too, lunch bento was the perfect assortment for the $!
Update April 2023: Came back for a date with the wifey. Forgot how bomb the fish was. Wife ordered the Dinner special (which is $49 but over $70 if you order everything separately- worth it). The special cane with a tofu steak which was crazyyyyyy good!! Surprised how much flavor it had. My favorite roll today was the Nirvana Roll! Tasted just like ceviche! Service was great and waitress was very attentive. August 2022 - This place is great 👍 I didn't think the quality was going to be amazing since it's under an apartment building, but the sushi was fresh and the rolls were well made made with a good balance of fish and rice. Service was exceptional too. Always asking if we needed anything. Definitely a good spot to visit if you're nearby.
Kombu Sushi Arts District: My New Favorite Sushi Spot I recently visited Kombu Sushi in the Arts District, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The ambiance was delightful, creating a perfect setting for a memorable meal. I started with the miso soup and edamame, both of which were excellent starters. The miso soup was warm and comforting, while the edamame was fresh and perfectly salted. Next, I had the calamari, which was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, making it a great appetizer. For sushi, I tried the tuna roll, salmon fusion roll, and crunchy roll. The tuna roll was fresh and flavorful. The salmon fusion roll, a salmon avocado roll topped with salmon, sesame oil, ponzu, shichimi, and red onions, was a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The crunchy roll, with shrimp tempura, crab, avocado, cucumber, tempura flakes, and drizzled with eel sauce, was a standout with its perfect crunch and savory taste. The quality of the food was top-notch, with great presentation and attention to detail. The customer service was also on point. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring we had a great dining experience. We even received complimentary matchboxes and dessert, which was a lovely touch. The best time to visit Kombu Sushi is during happy hour, as it offers great deals on their delicious offerings. With great quality food, excellent service, and a wonderful ambiance, Kombu Sushi has become my new favorite sushi spot. I'll definitely be coming back again. Highly recommended!
My mom and I ate here with some friends a few days ago and it was so delicious and fresh. Our waiter was very kind and friendly. The tuna onigiri was really yummy and my drink was good I can’t remember the name of it lol. The miso soup was delicious as well. I definitely recommend eating here if you love fresh sushi. We sat outside and it was such a nice atmosphere. 10/10 🥰😝😋
Warm & quick service, delicious & well-portioned food, and nice, airy ambience!! We were lucky enough to get complimentary ice cream for dessert and even little pink Kombu matchboxes as a souvenir. Definitely recommend this dog-friendly spot. (There’s even a dog menu!)
Amazing place! The Host and Server were extremely attentive and super helpful! We got the $50 sampler and it was honestly so amazing. The Cajun roll was a big highlight. All the fish was so buttery and fresh and melted in your mouth. I was visiting from seattle but will def recommend this place and come back and visit. It was a superb dining experience.
Great happy hour. Loved the sake cocktails and the food--especially the shishito peppers and the tuna rice cakes. After dark, the neon lights came on and the vibe changed. Glad they validated parking. Will return.
I dined in alone the first time 3 weeks ago and have since been going once a week (with friends)! The quality and flavors here are on point. I like ordering the chef's tasting menu but am planning on venturing to other options. I recommend the ginger mushroom soup as a starter (they also have miso soup but trust me!.... a big bowl of that with udon noodles sounds amazing). The Citron Roll is my favorite and a popular item! Save room for dessert because the mochi ice cream is SO GOOD. I got lychee for my first visit and green tea the second.
Unbelievable attention to detail, and you will eat until you’re full. The owner, Michael, takes care of his customers so closely, you would never know he’s the owner. It’s only been open 3 months at this point, but it’s one of the best Sushi spots in Los Angeles.
Amazing!!!! Loved the staff- such a fabulous experience. The food was delicious from soup to rolls and the mochi. Yummmm Super allergy friendly for GF and DF. Had the Chefs Sampler which they can make allergy friendly. Will come here again and again. The outdoor patio is chill and cozy.
Good dine la deal! $49 for: -Miso soup -Appetizer- spicy tuna cakes (a mini roll, lots of crunch) vs a huge basket of vegetable tempura -Chef’s selection of nigiri- 5 pieces -A huge and delicious specialty roll (citron) -A sparkling yuzu cocktail. Very chill vibes. Cute murals outside. The staff were super nice and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable & happy while waiting for my very late group. Shout out to the awesome host! Convenient spot in the arts district with a free parking lot at One Santa Fe. They also have happy hour every day til 7pm that I want to try. I’d come back!
So I had an amazing time with my husband. We had a pleasant date night enjoying some delicious and fabulous Sushi 🍣 wit amazing cocktails. The vibe and atmosphere was great. A big shout out to our waitress Rachel for taking care of us and for being awesome 👍. Any one who lives near by or any locals stop by and show them some love and support.
This is my new favorite sushi spot! Susie, the owner, was amazing and a truly wonderful host. My coworkers and I tried their dinner menu for two which include a soup, a starter, a few rolls and a dessert. The miso Brussel sprouts and spicy tuna rice cakes are so delicious! The rolls we tried were Citron, Nirvana and Cajun. I was wary of Cajun because it was spicy, but I really enjoyed the Spanish rice in the rolls. The Citron was also delightful and the nirvana was beautifully decorated and my coworkers favorite. We also tried the vruit roll which was so interesting and colorful. It had mango inside. Lastly we had a lychee sorbet with fruit which was a perfect palate cleanser! I also especially loved that the restaurant was named after her dog, Kombu. Kombu is a Shiba inu who looks like a fox, which is why the logo is a fox. There is a dog membership at the restaurant where the dogs get a bandana and a free meal of rice with chicken or salmon. It was such a nice experience. I can't wait to come back again!
I stayed in the Arts District for a week and discovered Kombu Sushi. I had the Chef's Tasting Menu. The delicious food, paired with a delicious cocktail and Live Music was the perfect atmosphere! Highly recommend 🍣 🍤🍹
My go to sushi spot in LA! Everything is so tasty and a great price point. I love the yellowtail collar (super moist) and all the specialty rolls and sashimi. Super dog friendly, chill environment, and attentive service. I never feel rushed and can always have a great convo with my friends.
What great little discovery! My wife and I were exploring DTLA on a sleepy rainy Sunday and happened upon this great sushi restaurant off of Santa Fe Ave in Downtown LA. The sign from the street read, “Happy Hour 3-6pm daily!” We stopped in to get the Mrs some tasty sushi. Kombu Sushi was a cozy bright fantastic surprise! Great fresh fish, chill atmosphere, and excellent service! We were given seared yellowtail sushi as well as lynchee mochi ice cream. They were so nice. We will definitely be back soon!
My boyfriend and I ordered the Firecracker roll, Alaska roll, Crunchy roll, and chicken gyoza. And omg everything was soo good! I definitely recommend getting the firecracker roll and crunchy roll 🔥
One of the rare place to serve fatty tuna (ottoro) which is DELICIOUS! This place gets busy with take out orders and everything is prepared on the spot and fresh, so be patient. Service is great, our waiter was very kind and patent with us and remembered each of our orders for a group of 10+ even when some had forgotten or were not listening. I look forward to visit this restaurant again next time I'm in LA.
Yummy menu, appealing happy hour specials, and SUPER dog friendly! A great place to pop in with your pooch. Only downsides: parking kind of sucks over here (as is everywhere in Los Angeles), but if you are walkable, it's lovely!
Great spot for lunch downtown. The bento box lunch special was just enough food and was high quality/delicious! Staff was also so kind and warm.
We were introduced to this place by our son. Such a wonderful experience for our family visiting. Food was delicious. Service was quick and great. Special shout goes to James and Alex. Kombu Sushi is lucky to have you both. You made us feel at home!
Ordered delivery and the wrong order was delivered, no biggie - reached out to Kombu, they were so helpful at resolving the issue, and incredibly nice through the whole exchange, and quick!! A huge thank you to the awesome team tonight, saving the day!!
Kombu is my go-to neighborhood spot to sit outside with my dog. 🍣🌟 This sushi? It's like they rolled the ocean into a rice blanket, sprinkled it with edible magic, and said, 'Bon appétit!' 🌊✨ Every bite feels like a tastebud symphony, and Kombu the conductor! 🎵🍱 The staff? So friendly, they could turn a seaweed frown upside down. 🤗
Loved the new location! Such a great vibe with attentive service and good food deals. I did the pre fixe special and I’m very happy with the value and the food. Definitely a great date spot
Nice and unpretentious place, with tasty sushi, at affordable prices. Nice atmosphere and service. Worth visiting white being in Arts District.
Servers were all very nice, food was excellent, vibe was great. Best sushi I’ve had in the arts district.
I've gone to Kombu in Silverlake & Arts District and every time I go the food and service is OUTSTANDING! If you're a vegetarian like me, the silky tofu smothered in mushrooms is SOUL FOOD and the Japanese curry is like a warm hug from your Mom on a rough day. I was extremely touched when the staff made my husband's birthday with treats for all our friends and of course a birthday song. They always go above and beyond! Plus, the prices are fair too.
This place is really good. Employees are so nice and kind. Environment very welcoming and relaxing.
We had an incredible experience with our server, Jonathan! He chose the best things on the menu for us and we loved every bite! Delicious spicy garlic edamame, Shishito peppers, tons of vegan sushi options, gluten-free soy sauce, and tons of other sushi rolls, lots of options and everything we tried was delicious so come on in and have a great time!
Combustion Sushi was amazing! The sushi was fresh and full of flavor, and the vibe was great. Huge shoutout to Jonathan gave us perfect service and made the whole experience even better. Definitely coming back!
Excellent atmosphere and hospitality. The sushi rolls were well made. Flavor, skill, and execution were awsome. We got four specialty rolls: Salmon Fusion Nirvana Spider And one with mango can't remember. I especially liked the poke bowl. The raw vegetables were marinated so it gave a good crunch with good flavor. Shout-out to front of house!
I recently had lunch at Kombu Sushi and had an amazing experience, Michael is the best! His customer service, attentiveness, and over all positive energy is why I keep coming back! The citron roll was delicious and bursting with flavor! The service as I mentioned was top-notch, with friendly staff who made sure our dining experience enjoyable. I highly recommend Kombu Sushi for anyone looking for great sushi and excellent service!
Wow I felt so well taken care of walking in with my two friends and the food was heavenly! Their hot house sake was the perfect ending and I usually don't like to drink. Very clean especially since my friend installs tech ware in a lot of restaurant chains and knows how it can be behind the scene in cleanliness preparing the food - you can see how carefully hygenic everything was well thought out in the kitchen layout and the consideration of preparation into the food from the kitchen staff to waiting tables. Felt like home.
This place was great. We had several cut rolls that were amazing - super fresh, really good flavor and not too much rice so we could order more of them. Service was excellent too! We came right at the end of happy hour, and our server put in our order and then came back 10 minutes later just to make sure we didn't want to add anything else from the happy hour menu before it ended. I usually drink vodka, but they only had beer, sake, etc. which I expected. We had a few beers with dinner & we'll definitely be back when we're in the area.
Best sushi spot in town! They have great happy hour deals for lunch and dinner. The staff is super kind and food is always fresh. Plus they are dog friendly and have a dog menu! Can’t recommend this place enough.
I’ve always enjoyed a solid meal from this Kombu location. I will either dine in or eat out, but are always friendly and service is good. The flavors and variety of food is nice too and I love that they offer happy hour deals. Sometimes not all the items are available online during this time, which is the only downside.
Solid sushi spot in the Arts District! Great variety of options (food and drinks) and the happy hour was perfect! Highly recommend for a night out. They validate for the parking in the little shopping center there too.
Sushi was so good...we ate it so fast I didn't get any pictures. Service was quick and friendly. It was a Wednesday after 7pm, so not really busy.
I love this spot! The bento box lunch special is a great deal, happy hour is amazing, pricing in general is very reasonable, the restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly and they like dogs, and they have sapporo on draft
Good sushi and sashimi here, really tasty! The fish is fresh and hits the spot perfectly. There's a cool, chill music vibe playing softly. You can sit inside or enjoy the outside area. The folks who work here are super nice. It's a relaxed place to grab some yummy food. Definitely a good pick if you love sushi. Give it a try, you probably won't be disappointed!
Just a regular sushi place, nothing fancy, that said tataki salad was DELICIOUS. Service not as good because i went for my Timeleft dinner and the waiter not only did not know what it was, he combined the two different Timeleft tables without asking us whether we wanted that and he did not give us individual checks.
I got the tasting menu and 2 Philly rolls. The tasting menu seemed like a great deal, and it was! The yuzu cocktail and Brussels sprouts were DELIGHTFUL! I ordered the 2 plant-based sushi rolls that came with the dinner, and they were inventive. Service, however, was slow, and our waitress didn’t seem full aware of what we were still waiting on when we had only received half of what we ordered.
Enjoyed our time here. It was a mid -afternoon, so plenty of seating. We had a variety of handroll sushi. Service good. Parking is validated at the place. Parking maybe a problem during popular times. Definitely worth visiting.
Service is amazing, food tastes really good and fresh but be aware that you might expect some waiting time to get your orders. Still, the waiting is worth it. The masters sushi chefs are incredible and the options for vegans and non seafood enjoyers are good too.
Service: The waitress with bob hair is rude enough to ask for more tip and then more again. They threaten me repeatedly unless I tip the amount they wish. A habit of theirs is that they always stare at you as you tip, eyeing the amount. It is quite pathetic actually. It’s either that this resturant is pity enough not to pay its employees a decent salary, or that this particular waitress is poison. They don’t even offer a great service. They seem to be slow and negligent on purpose to seat you when you arrive. Over the five times I’ve been there, they never put on any smile and always have a bitter attitude, even though and my friends always talk nice and friendly. Be aware if you plan to visit and expect the exortion of them standing over you as you tip. Food: Food and setup are good for what it is, (i.e., not a higher end $100 resturant), while the lunch menu is better than the dinner one. The dinner menu can feel overpriced since the portion size is not as good, but the price is $10 higher than similar dish for lunch. I hope the resturant takes a note of the issue of this particular employee if they care enough about their business.
not that great of a sushi place, sat us down and then didn't give us menus....food took forever to come out. their miso soup is also more watered down now compared to last year & food is in smaller portions while same price or more expensive. the chicken katsu is much more flat to give it the effect of being a huge portion but actually it's smaller than before
Arguably the worst dining experience service I have ever had. We got in with reservations and told The waiter, or who we call “the worst employee who’s sick of life ever”, and he mentioned “oh sorry I’m too busy sit or stand there till I’m ready” so we waited 10 minutes. He seated us, came to the table literally once for drink orders. I told him we’d be ready for food in 2-5 minutes…… yea he ignored us the rest of the night to chat in the back kitchen or somewhere. We waited, no joke, 45 minutes for him, by the time he or a colleague came back, they told us “we aren’t serving sushi anymore the kitchen closed” mind you this was at 7 pm, they close at 9 pm. I really wanted to NOT leave a tip, but Rauw (sorry if I botched the name) was extremely friendly and felt bad that her colleague was the WORST server we have ever had. Rauw was great and She deserves to be promoted. The other guy, awful!
