Grateful to have this charming cafe with vegan options. They even make homemade almond milk which you have to try! I love the chive and cheddar scone. Homemade lemonade rocks too! It is a bit pricey. Free wifi available! I will be coming back here more often and do my reading/studying and hiking!

We had been wanting to try this place for awhile now. After our hike we ordered a chai tea latte with oat milk, a lavender chocolate scone, and the spinach quiche. Omg was soooo amazing and the food and coffee was amazing. I also wanted to say the customer service was so impressive. The girl working that day was so kind and we just appreciate that so much. We can’t wait to go back again. If you haven’t been this is an amazing cafe that is worth a try.

A little peaceful piece of nature surrounds you here in the middle of the city. They care about the food they serve, and you can taste it. There's something for omnivores to vegans. If you ever see their strawberry rhubarb pie, it's a must have! And if you eat too much, walk over to one of the nearby trails and work it off.

It's impossible for me to hike the observatory without hitting this place first. Great coffee, tasty unique pastries and always friendly service. Its a great spot for a first date too if a hike is involved or just to meet someone and hang outside.

Great food after a hike. They have great juices as well and a variety of coffees.

Really love this spot. Prices are a bit high and the lines can be long, but it's great to be able to relax outside at a table in Griffith Park either before or after a hike. The quality of the food and drinks is consistently high. The staff is friendly and the area is well maintained.

Fantastic location! Easy to get to. Great for a cup of coffee and a hike. Quiet. Casual. Hard to believe you're still surrounded by people when you get here. It's an oasis for a calm afternoon. Easy to spend the whole day just enjoying the environment. Parking was easy to find. Calm setting. A nice break from the rat race.

I seriously could make a trip here just for the pastries. Everything myself and my friends ordered was great.

This place is great. Really charming, lots of shaded outdoor picnic tables to sit at, and the food and coffee are delicious — way better than a café in a park has any right to be. Pricewise it’s on par with other artisan coffee shops. The only negative really is that waits can be quite long.

As a hardcore fan of the classic PB&J, I must admit that I really enjoyed my sandwich. Especially when I was able to sit outdoors on a summers day, surrounded by nature. The bread is soft and thick and the slices are covered in a generous spread of house-made peanut butter, which contains peanuts, cashews and almonds. The strawberry jam, that's locally made, is very fresh, rich in flavor and absolutely delicious. Yes, the classic sandwich will taste as pure and rich as the nature you're surrounded byTip: If you feel like spoiling yourself, order some kettle chips with your PB&J. The salty flavor from the chips, will make you appreciate the sandwich so much more. The basket the sandwich came in was wet on the bottom, and this is also the only remark I have for the business... no one likes a wet basket.

Have you read Chirri & Chirra? Starting from the bear statue and the ferndell trail and stopping at the cafe is so magical just like the story! All the food I have had and pastries are amazing. The biscuits are full of flaky layers, the apple tartine is perfectly balanced, the scones are texturally perfect. My only complaint is the lemonade is more natural than sweet so skip it for the kids. All in all a perfect stop.

Love, love, love this place! Dog friendly with wonderful service, fantastic pastries, and gorgeous scenery! Such a gem and a staple of Griffith Park. Highly recommend the cheddar-chive buttermilk biscuit, lavender shortbread cookie, and strawberry lemonade.

Recently booked an appointment at Beverly Hills Ultrasound. My technician Melissa was amazing. She was extremely knowledgeable, kind, easy to work with and put me at ease regarding the condition of my pancreas, liver and kidneys. She emailed me imagines for my records and future comparison. Delicious, freshly-prepared food, friendly to vegans and carnivores alike. MY favorites are grilled cheese and the lavender-vanilla cookies. The cookies are a religious experience. Always clean, often a line so choose an off-time to snack.

Again take it to consideration that this is written in December of 2020. This affects the review. Normally there is outdoor seating but that is currently not permitted. The menu consists of items that can be taken to go. So many of their favorite sandwiches are not available. (My fave is their egg salad, but sadly can't make those in advance and have them sit all day.) Yet the baked goods are still there in all their glory. They are made on premises they are very fresh and awesome. Right now they have an apple tartlet & a quiche that are spectacular. There are still a variety of coffees, teas & hot chocolate.

Currently on holiday in LA. I did the hike on Tuesday and today and this place is lovely, the service is lovely, the area is stunning to get a bite to eat. I recommend the strawberry lemonade, it’s so good. We tried the cheese melt and chocolate chip cookie today, and it was delicious! Go ahead and do the hike, stunning views and enjoy this place when you’re done with your hike.

Amazing gluten free options, especially for those with a sweet tooth. Best GF doughnut I've ever eaten. Great spot for something to eat and drink after a hike.

S

This is one of the most peaceful and beautiful spots to grab coffee or a quick bite in all of LA. Their gluten free cookies and vegan pies are particularly noteworthy. Staff has always been very helpful and friendly when I visit. Earlier this summer I had some family coming into town and, after speaking with the owner about some ideas I had to make their visit extra special, I was thrilled that he was so willing and gracious to accommodate. Everyone had a wonderful time. This cafe and the surrounding park are a must visit in Los Angeles.

Chocolate chip cookies are really good (not gluten free or vegan). They're big and yummy. Avocado sandwich is really good and big enough to share if you're not fully hungry. Happy tea (iced) is really good too. Also a fan of the cheddar chive biscuits. Seating is quiet and plenty in the middle of nature.

S

Super cute little snack bar in the middle of the park! A little tricky to find if you didn’t drive in but just look for the jungle gym playground and walk out to the parking lot and you’ll see it directly across I had been coming to the park for more than a year (not regularly but still) took me up until recently to find this haha Anyways great outdoor seating area, big enough for parties/picnics/etc I’ve only had the fresh squeezed lemonade but that was delicious, and they actually have a good selection of baked goods and a couple of lunch meal items like sandwiches and chips It’s only open till 4 pm and closed on Tuesday and Wednesday The workers are super nice and friendly and I really like this place! If you ever go to Griffith park definitely worth checking out

Rustic hidden gem with delicious coffee (whether iced or hot) and even more delicious apple pie that melts in your mouth. Very pleasant picnic tables you can sit at to escape the heat of summer... as you contemplate about ordering seconds on the pie slice. ☕

Wonderful customer service, great food and beautiful scenery. I got the avocado sandwich, it was delish! Vanilla latte was so good and served with a heart on top. Lemonade was fresh and tasty. Chocolate chip cookie was homemade and so good. I had to go buy another. Lavender cookie, to be tasted but looks and smell wonderful. I have to go back a couple more times

I had the strawberry lemonade which was fresh and refreshing right after the hike loop to the observatory ans back. I had the chickpea salad sandwich. The pickled onions had a nice touch. Packed with arugula which added a great crunch. My fiance had their cheddar biscuit. I had a small piece, delicious. As was there chocolate chip cookie. A nice crisp outside and soft inside. They know how to do a good cookie. Even though they had a small line, they stay busy and orders were out in a timely manner.

Amazingly good coffee and pastries for a trail side cafe - lavender flavored baked goods are fantastic. I would have come here more if I’m local. Staffs are friendly and patient - seemingly all well educated local college kids. I chatted with a local customer here and she said this is the best local place for coffee and food near Griffith.

This cafe is a great little stop if you're making your way through Griffith Park. We stopped by after our morning hike and it was very quaint and relaxing. We had a cranberry almond scone, a pesto egg cup, a chai latte and a cold brew (stumptown). Everything was really good and we loved enjoying it under the tree cover in the outdoor patio.

Want to get connected with nature and have an amazing meal! This was just what er needed on our hike. The food was so fresh and delicious. You still can connect with nature while getting healthy food. Very kid workers, and it was nice that they provided water for free. If you are hiking, take the time to get more energy and good food!

Update August 20 Ya gotta stop by the Cafe for a snack or meal. Open Tuesdays now until 2pm. Such a hidden little gem of a cafe, plenty of shady spots to avoid the warm temps ahead. Chess is played every Sunday afternoon on the picnic tables in back. Lots of chess, quite a few bring the game are available to play, even give lessons Such a pleasant & welcome surprise nestled under the trees in Griffith Park. The perfect starting point before a hike or stop afterwards. Beautiful location and tasty bakery items as well as a menu of meal & drink options such as coffees & teas. The chocolate chip cookies, yes please. Or a raspberry or lavender shortbread are really good. try the oatmeal cookies. Lots of picnic tables in sunny & shady spots. Chess is played here too (on Sundays) on a picnic table in back, serious chess with a timer. Wifi available for those who must... They're closed Tuesday & Wednesday but I still stopped by to read a book. There's street parking and they have a parking area too, go up the driveway to the lot. Currently they close at 5pm-ish.

Quaint, quintessential local vibe—reminding you of a simpler time, before the commercialization of mass produced food and experiences. Chocolate chip cookie (ask for a side of whipped cream) under old growth shade trees.

This was a really nice place as a quick stop to get snacks before hikes. Their quiche I recommend - not too heavy, but just enough to give you energy for a hike. Staff are very nice. Since this is a hiking area there's only outdoor seating. It makes you feel like you're in nature. There is a huge line so expect to wait 15 minutes or so before you reach the cashier.

Finally tried it 😄 After so many years of walking, hiking and running! Loved it and you must try it 👍🏽 I had the Good Day Latte (delicious) and my husband had a regular Latte with oat milk. For pastry we tried the lavender shortbread and blueberry/banana muffin 😋 Plenty of options to choose from! Enjoy 😁

A very nice coffee shop; it feels like you're in the woods. The staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and there are plenty of tables and benches. The only downside is that the benches are concrete and cold. The apple pie was delicious, the coffee tasted a bit sour, but we really liked everything. They have internet, which is great because my phone's internet doesn't work. I recommend it.

If you are planning a walking tour of the Griffith Park, all the way up to the Griffith Observatory, this is a great place to make a stop and enjoy good pastries and coffee. It is usually pretty crowded but, be patient - it’s definitely worth your time. For a quick rest, enjoy the sun in the garden in the back.

Fantastic little coffee booth with a few outdoors sitting. I had a wonderful lavender and chocolate scone, as well as coffee and a granola cup, after a long hike to the Hollywood sign. Definitely was a lovely pick-me-up after walking. The vibe there is really great, just under the tall trees.

We love this place. At the foot of the Ferndell observatory loop it offers healthy sandwiches fresh lemonade and some tasty snacks. On hot days there's usually a line and they're not open Mondays. But they're definitely dog friendly with the water bowl and treats at the window if you ask - or your dog asks. We've seen this place transition over the years and it is really become a nice place to sit out and enjoy the park at one of the picnic tables, up in the hay Circle or just under the trees. Nice friendly people too. But shhhh. Or else it will be overrun with tourists

Michael Harbour
Michael Harbour

We love this place. It had been a favorite stop with the kids when they were young after a beautiful stroll through Ferndell. We hadn’t been there in years and it did not disappoint. The baked goods, the lemonade, the avocado sandwich and snakedog (an all beef hotdog, wrapped in a flakey pastry). Just a minutes long walk from the bustling streets of LA and your transported away to Big Bear or some other mountain retreat, but with the kind of top notch little trays you’d expect from some of the Los Felix eateries a stones throw away. Whether you are finishing your journey here, spending some time with the kids at the adjacent playground, or taking the short trail up to Griffith Observatory, it’s well worth the stop!

E

The food was great. Strawberry Rhubarb pie was decent, but the biscuits & scones were excellent! It was a good spot to stop for some snacks to hold me over during an 8ish mile hike around Griffith Park! That said, the line was unreasonably long during my visit. Spent about 30m just standing waiting to order. It would have taken longer, but 5-6 people ahead of me got fed up and left. There could definitely be some improvements made to their overall efficiency.

What a cute place to grab a cup of coffee and eat some snacks. We came here right after went to Griffith observatory. It is about 10 minutes drive from the Griffith observatory. This place is very cozy. They serve vegan food as well. The coffee is stumptom organic coffee. Love it, especially their cold brew was great. They also provide house-made almond milk. How do they make almond milk for daily supply, I don't know. But I do know it tastes good. We had granolas with almond milk. Very healthy and light. The granola contains raisins and some kind of berries that has ginger flavor in it. I like it. The vegan avocado bowl was good but a little bit on the pricey end after you take off the bread, the cheese, the mayo. You only left 4 pieces of tomato's, a bed of sprouts, and two scoops of avocados with soy bacon as a topping. It still tastes pretty good, but certainly not filling. The seating area is very cozy and decorated with string light. It looks much cuter when it gets dark. There is a park across the street which is good for kids. There is also a hiking trail where you can hike all the way to Griffith observatory. The hiking trail is pretty shady with all the trees on the sides. It's much pleasant than walking on the driving path up to observatory. I'll definitely take my family and friends here.

Adorable little cafe with patio seating open from 8am-6pm. The type of place that keeps LA unique. Well priced espresso bar (with Stumptown!) and really delicious lemonades. I wasn't terribly excited about the menu as there wasn't much gluten free stuff. Pie and quiche slices are about $6 which seems a bit expensive so I didn't get any. Cookies are $3, granola/fruit is $8. So...just too expensive I think and I wonder how many people are like me and don't buy because things are just slightly too expensive (except, most people probably are less cheap than me...) I will say that everything looked and smelled delicious, (especially the avocado sandwich!) so if you're coming off a hike with some extra pocket change, get on it!

G
Gameboy Junky

At the moment they don't allow seating, even though it's outdoors. So that's a bummer. Also they killed my favorite ham quiche :( but the spinach quiche was quite tasty. Chocolate scones are the real stand out dessert.

A
Adriel Davis

I really enjoyed the gluten-free cookie! It would be better if they had it separate from the other items so it would not make me sick because of cross contamination. I have learned from experience to eat the middle and give the rest to my husband, not that that works every time. 🤔 I love the vibe and location... I would live there if I could!

B

A great place to bust wide open the calorie deficit you created by hiking OR to refuel or top up from the energy you have already expended after a hike. Beautiful setting. Be aware that nothing separates you from the rest of Griffith Park. Coyotes are known to visit the cafe and immediate area. Do not leave your dog off leash or unattended while you patronize the cafe.

J
Jeff Borden

The muffins and coffee here are amazing. You can get discounted muffins from the previous day which I recommend as most things here are overpriced. On weekdays it's really chill, but beware on weekends every parent in the area brings their kids here to play in the sand next to it.

I live this place. The food is good, but a bit unique. I liked the chocolate chip lavender scone. The place makes me feel like I’m up at some ranger station far out of the city, while being right in the middle of everything. No indoor seating. Only picnics tables, and the line is pretty long. I usually go really early on a Sunday to avoid the long line and enjoy it while it’s a bit less crowded. Great for kid and dogs.

A
Abbey Irwin

Great food! Small but devoted menu. Great area for a short hike and hanging out in the nature esp with kids. Coffee and sweets are excellent. Better baristas than you might expect at a food spot 👍😉. Parking is tight in this part of the park with trailheads and a playground nearby, but there are a couple lots and it usually doesn't take long to find a spot. The line to order moves really slow, but from ordering to picking up your food, the wait isn't long.

T
Ted Kaufmann

Everything on the menu I tried was great, e.g. the coffee or the fresh lemonade. Eggs Nest and the cookies are yummie. They have outdoor seating but the area is currently remodeled. There is still some space to sit but not much. Parking is sometimes hard but free. Last time I even saw a deer around this area.

S

This is our early Sunday morning go-to spot. It's great to grab a coffee, and some delicious baked goods and then wander around the park. My three year old loves to play on the stumps and hay bales. Their quiche is always perfectly silky smooth and full of flavor. The scones are great. The pie is amazing! The avocado sandwiches are a favorite. Go early to beat the crowds and get the best menu selection before they sell out.

M
Michele Langley

The food is really good. The cheddar and chive biscuits and frittata were really good, but the frittata was cold after about the second bite. The cappuccino was also good, but not hot, mine was lukewarm. I would've asked for reheating, but the line was so long that I didn't bother. Had my food and coffee been hot, I would've given five stars. If you don't want to stand in line for 15-20 minutes and wait an additional 10-15 min for your cappuccino, latte, etc., get there as early as possible. If you get there around 10 or later, be prepared to wait.

After a hike, this was a lovely spot to grab a coffee or a refreshing drink. They also sell some snacks, although we didn’t try any. It’s a simple little cabin in the woods, with a laid-back vibe that fits perfectly with the surroundings. Nothing fancy, just a charming, down-to-earth place to take a break and enjoy the moment.

Sipping coffee in the nature was very pleasant. Plus they have tasty vegan pastries - I had a muffin with banana and blueberries, and apple galette - both were fresh and tasty. Unfortunately sandwiches are served after 10 a.m.

This is a very nice place to get coffee, a sandwich or baked goods before or after your hike around Fern Dell all the way to Griffith observatory and beyond or...., you are nearby. They have coffee, tea, sandwiches (vegetarian options) hot dogs and baked goods. The outdoor dining area is like a picnic in the forest .

Woodland outdoor setting with picnic style shaded seating. It's beautiful and simple. It's nice to have a snack shack when you're on a hike/walk; no question about it. Food is good, nothing special. Pricey at $8.25 for a PB&J or $12 for Avocado sandwich. Service could use some cheer or a smile. Atmosphere: Gorgeous "Fern Dell" you can't beat it!❤️

I love this place. It's a beautiful & (mostly) peaceful place to enjoy a snack after my hike. Been going here for years sometimes after my hike. It's a really cute place with plenty of seating. Food usually tastes great; they have pies, cookies, and many other options. Cappuccino's always taste great and have cute design in the foam on top. Prices are reasonable, I believe food is made fresh daily. They have vegan options which is great (a close friend is vegan). Depending on the time of the day, the line get REALLY long so I don't even bother because they're a bit slow sometimes. Parking is plenty on the street (no lot).

J
Jimmy T

Nice spot but a really long line and service is not at a rushed pace. The staff is really nice and friendly and don't rush you through the ordering process. We had a snake dog, egg in the pocket, avocado sandwich and the peach blueberry pie. Egg in the pocket was the best tasting thing we got. Snake dog is just a sausage dog wrapped in a puff pastry. The bread for the avocado sandwich was fresh but the filling was missing something. The pie was healthy tasting and didn't seem like they added much extra sugar. Definitely a cute spot but I probably wouldn't be a regular here.

I still really like it his cafe, but something has changed. I hope they are just working out kinks. For one, there has been a staff turnover on the front end. When I order a cortado, the guys consistently make me an 10oz latte or serve the cortado in too large a cup with too much milk. This has happened the last 4 or 5 times. I've been coming to Trails on an almost weekly basis since they reopened. Also the quality of drip coffee has gone way down; it's not very good anymore. On the positive side the baked stuff is just as delicious as it always has been. The Trails was almost perfect up until the last year. I hope they can recover what made me and my friends always excited to return. *** Original review from 2021: *** This is the best cafe for miles. The coffee and pastries are amazing, the baristas do latte art, they make their own almond milk (?!?) and its owned by the city. To say nothing of the amazing ambience, I can't get over how good a coffee shop in the middle of a city park is. Good freakin' job, y'all.

I’ve been coming for the last couple of years and the drinks are good , I have gotten the egg in a basket on 2 separate times and it tasted like dish soap. I got the quiche one time and it also tasted like dish soap. As anything that is probably baked with silicone will taste like soap. And it’s always at the bottom to where I can’t even say I want a refund because it’s almost eaten.

Ok food. The servers were welcoming, but got our order for food wrong. Had to ask them twice to get our food. Once delivered, it was good. Several golfers were customers and they got better service than we did. The cleaning staff was efficient and avoided intruding on our table. We had a dog with us and the staff were very nice to him, even feeding him treats.

Got the chai tea latte and their home made apple pie. Think we got a sloppy slice - was just a top crust with cold apple filling. Maybe look into the sandwiches instead; those look pretty good.

So disappointed food was not all that!! I got the Quiche and my kid got the avocado sand. Which was a bit better than the frozen quiche warm in the microwave definitely not worth $30. The service definitely not good young people on their phones looked bother to have customers in a rainy day…

The girl who took my order today was completely rude. I placed a order of food for me, my daughter and my friend. I asked for 2 cookies and only received one. I nicely asked her for the second cookie and she tells me she didn’t ring up 2 cookies and I would need to pay for the second one which is fine. (I never received a receipt for my order btw) So I pay for the cookie and when I got the food a sandwich we ordered was not there. She then throws her arms up in the air, says she’s had it with me and rudely placed the sandwich in front of me. I didn’t do anything to make her feel the need to be hateful to me. I will never eat at the place again due to her attitude. Learn customer service girl and try to be happy.

I've been to the cafe twice and both times there was a LONG wait to place an order. The last time we waited 20 minutes and in the end we gave up, because we had to be somewhere else. There were barely 10 people in front of us (some together - so maybe 6-7 orders), but the line just wasn't moving and there was no sense of urgency from the staff. The food seems to take a long time to come out too and the menu is VERY limited. The cafe has an amazing location, which is surely what keeps it so busy. Such a shame, there could be a much better operator running it and it would be unbelievable.

Nothing's changed in this run-down "cafe," if you can even call it that. The tables are crooked, the grounds are unkempt, as if in disrespect for customers. To top it all off, the staff has a very greedy tipping rate at the payment terminal—minimum 20%.🤯Then 23% and 25%. Why not more, guys?😅 Who do you think you are?!🤔 staff. I won't spend another penny here. It's a pity that a normal person didn't take charge of this place. The location is just great!!! The establishment is just awful…
