A fine-dining restaurant offering a £90 set menu per person. Many dishes explored the same core ingredients from different angles: duck breast, duck liver, and duck pâté; shallot, roasted leek, and onion; beetroot in endless variations. You get the idea. No weak courses, and the desserts were genuinely delightful.

Went here for a family 60th Anniversary wedding meal. Its the first time I have been and it started very well with a warm welcome and drinks to start we was taken to the table and then started out taster menu which ive never had before and when we was served each course it was described in detail what we had in front of us we also had wine to go with the courses as well, the service was excellent the food was tasty well presented and just the right amount for you to try, we was not rushed in any way and the atmosphere in the place was very warm and welcoming, could do with some decent coffee though. (coffeemasters). Overall I was very impressed with everything ans hopefully will return again to try something with another special occasion.

Wonderful evening. The food, service and atmosphere were perfect. Lots of variety in the taster menu and plenty of food (even for someone with a big appetite). Definitely feels worthy of a Michelin star.

My wife and I ventured here for our wedding anniversary meal. We often to fine dining experiences / usually Michelin starred. What a lovely setting in the heart of Ludlow, really love the wood panels and the feel of the dining and reception rooms. Super attentive and friendly staff who clearly love working there too! We opted for the main menu rather than the tasting menu… pleased we did the Beef and the Duck were out of this world! And my special no goats cheese board was lovely as well! We will be back being relatively close by, really surprised they no longer have a star in my opinion!

We went to Mortimers to celebrate my partner's birthday. The food was absolutely delicious, high quality and presented beautifully. I just wished we lived closer as we'd be regulars here. Best meal we've had in a while!

Fantastic evening of superb food and drink, celebrating with friends after a long time apart. We booked the private dining room at the back of the restaurant. Everyone loved the tasting menu, most had the accompanying wines. We liked the service which was really friendly, smooth, relaxed and unobtrusive, never waiting or wanted for anything (and they even let us put on our own music in the background, in our own room. Which was a nice touch). Here are few pictures of what we had. The food was lovely, from bread (so delicious and warm! ) and opening snacks right though to the Dessert, cheese course, coffee and petit fours. Go and enjoy a lovely night out!

We had a walk-in on a Friday lunchtime so we were lucky to get a table for three. The service was exemplary from the start and we were seated almost immediately. The menu was reflective of great seasonal local produce and cooked to perfection with real flair. Would highly recommend 👌

I had a date with my wife. The food was astonishing, the presentation and the vibe romantic, modern, elegant and characteristic. The best duck liver pate and organic beef I ever had. I'm half Argentine, and eating food beef in England is hard to achieve, yet here it's something else. Wayne, the chef, a star, and the staff super friendly. To repeat and to recommend

A treat for a friend and a celebration. As always an amazing menu food and service. It’s better than having a holiday! Getting ready to book our next visit.

We would totally recommend eating at this fantastic restaurant. We visited Ludlow for the weekend , so pre booked our visit several weeks before. Could only manage to book for lunch. We was not disappointed. From the moment we entered into the building we was welcomed by a very friendly member of staff (manageress I presume) . We had a relaxing drink at bar before we went for our meal. Food was a 3 course meal. The meals were so tasty and Beautifully presented. The staff do not bother you or ask if food is ok (this is one of my pet hates anyway) Highly recommended- trust me, you will absolutely love the food. Thank you. We will be visiting again.

Thoroughly enjoyed the 6 course tasting menu. What a treat! The waiting staff were charming and very welcoming, and the place has a lovely ambiance.

Very good food, lovely dining room and very friendly and attentive professional service. The scallop dish was outstanding. I’d prefer a longer wine list but the selection on offer was more than acceptable. The people maketh the business and they shone through.

Really great experience from the moment you step in until you leave. We went on a Saturday and had the taster menu which was excellent and left you full. Thought the pricing without the wine was really good value. Will definitely visit again.

Cannot speak highly enough of this Restaurant, a real gem. High end modern British cooking using fresh locally sourced food. Excellent service by the whole team. I would advise you to book ,if you want to visit. A la carte menu (Guinea fowl was a highlight) or they do a tasting menu with wine. Probably, one of the top five meals we have had in forty years.

This represents refined dining... The food was divine. I had terrine of duck with pastrami, decorated with a cream of peas, tiny ceps and a cube of pistachio marshmallow... Followed by halibut with broad beans and asparagus spears... The wine was chilled to perfection.. Service was supreme, stylish. Artisan coffee with brandy and chocolates ended a memorable meal.

Very good restaurant. We had the 3 course menu and each course was excellent. Yes it is expensive, but it is worth it. Definitely visit if you are in Ludlow.

Booked at short notice for lunch because the weather took a downturn. The building is full of character from the 17th century. Excellent service from the cheery staff. Delightful tasting menu. Wonderful combination of flavours, every course was perfect. What a fabulous spontaneous lunch. Thank you to the whole team.

I took my wife here for her birthday on Saturday The food, presentation and service was first class. It made the night into an event rather than just a meal out. The front of house staff were very attentive. When we grumbled about the service charge they asked if they would like it removed from the bill which they did. I left a cash tip which is what I prefer and they definitely deserved. We had the tasting menu with my wife having the meat free options that I enviously glanced when they were being served. We resisted the temptation to photograph the superbly presented dishes enjoying each one as they arrived. Highly recommended.

Superb restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu which was exceptionally presented and full of heavenly flavours. Dishes were brought to the table at a comfortable pace and described fully. Delicious! We visited mid-week in winter so the restaurant was very quiet and lacked a little of the ambiance which would otherwise be present. I will certainly go back!

We choose the resturant for our first wedding anniversary. And what an amazing choice. Camila was wonderful we felt very special. Little touches like our names on our menu and happy anniversary on some of our dishes. The wine pairing was exquisite. This is a very special very intimate experience .

I have tried many restaurant sample menus and this is by far one of the best. Every course was delicious. The staff were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Will be back

Fantastic!! The food is outstanding, a wide range of wines to suit all palates. The staff are super friendly and a true asset and the venue is steeped in history and elegance.

I booked the private dining room for a birthday party. Mortimers couldn't have been more helpful, allowing me to visit to see what it was like and later to decorate the room (and allow in a bagpiper). The room itself was lovely and had a great feel. We had the Taste of Mortimers menu and it was fantastic. Every course was excellent along with the wines that went with them. Definitely worth a visit!

Fabulous food in a beautiful wood panelled room. Very generous with in-between course tasters. My scallop starter was delicious and the staff were attentive without being intrusive. The modern fire in the traditional setting of the restaurant was a distraction though and didn't add to the decor in a positive way.

We have been to many Michelin star restaurants, Mortimers is up there with them minus the inflated prices. We indulged in the taster lunch menu (great value) and it didn't disappoint. The food, service and ambiance was top notch. We shall definitely be returning to this excellent restaurant.

Outstanding, beautiful food, fabulous staff what a wonderful experience we had for Mt daughters birthday. We had the Saturday night tasting menu with wines. Very reasonably prices, the food was gorgeous. Didn't want the evening to end!! We will definitely be back

We both ordered the tasting menu with accompanying wine selection. Food was well presented, very tasty and by the end we were well-filled. Friendly and attentive service, well-chosen wines -- what's not to like?

This place is a gem! Wayne and his staff deliver a five star performance in all aspects of this dining experience. The food is sensational, imaginatively presented and beautifully constructed. Come on Michelin, pull your finger out and award the star(s) so justly deserved. Many thanks Wayne for a wonderful lunch!

Faultless! Mortimers Restaurant in Ludlow delivered an exquisite dining experience that exceeded all our expectations. The 6-course tasting menu was a symphony of culinary delights, expertly curated and flawlessly executed. Standouts included an enticing selection of snacks - the cheese tart was memorable, bursting with rich and creamy flavours. The scallop and apple dish was an ingenious marriage of textures and tastes, while the Trout paired with Baby Beets and Horseradish Crème Fraiche was fresh and wonderfully balanced. The Beef with Confit Onion Mash, Shallots, and Baby Leek was deeply satisfying, a testament to the chef's skill in layering and bringing out deep flavours. The meal was rounded off with two delectable puddings, each a perfect sweet note to end on. Complementing the phenomenal cuisine was the attentive, prompt service that was at once warm and professional. Coupled with the restaurant's relaxed ambiance, it made for an evening that was as enjoyable as it was delicious. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a top-tier dining experience in Ludlow.

Visited Ludlow for food festival weekend and had booked Mortimers as our fine dining evening, a 7 course tasting menu with the option of paired wines and an optional cheese course. We tried the taster menu as there was a vegetarian version offering a good range of dishes. All very nice, but the price was a bit steep we felt (including a 12.5% compulsory service charge)

As a party of 3 we ate here last Saturday for lunch. We were really well looked after by Camilla. We each had the 5 course tasting menu and the food was absolutely exceptional. The wine offering too was also brilliant. We will definitely be going back.

Enjoyed an evening meal at Mortimers. The decor was very cosy. The food was delicious and the service was excellent, the staff were very attentive. It was very quiet with only three tables of two dining, but that may have been down to bad weather. I would definitely make a return visit.

We both loved the 5 course tasting menu, and will definitely be back for more. Really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and the informal but attentive staff. The food was wonderful, particularly the lamb. Thoroughly recommend!

We had the 7 course tasting menu and wine pairing. Outstanding food in general (although we didn’t like one of the snacks and the duck course wasn’t to our taste). The beef course and two desserts were the highlights - superb. Well chosen wines to accompany. Initially found the place a little stuffy and lacking atmosphere but once full it felt more buzzy. Good service, never felt hurried.

We were fortunate to be in a position of being able to treat ourselves to a once in a lifetime event; fine dining in a Michelin starred restaurant. We were the only diners that night which meant that we had private service. The service was personal and excellent. We elected to try the taster menu @ £85 per head for 7 dishes. The food itself was nice but not outstanding with the exception of the beef dish which was delicious. I’ve included the menu and some sample dishes on the night. Would we go again - no. The food was lovely but the evening was breathtakingly expensive paying over £12 for an alcohol free G&T and a mandatory service charge of £32 for the 2 of us. We had little change from £300 and whilst we expected to pay a lot more for the ‘occasion’, we were shocked. Does it need to be prohibitively expensive ? Yes you are paying for fine dining and yes we went for the taster menu but I’m sure they would attract more customers if they were a bit more grounded and realistic with the pricing. £32 service charge for 2 people on a quiet night ? Finally, we hoped that ‘chef’ would make an appearance on the night given we were the only customers. How was your meal ?, where have you travelled from ?. Sadly no, we never saw ‘chef’ which we think was a missed opportunity on their behalf.

Was looking forward to this but felt a little bit jipped as the Taste of Mortimers menu was a course (and matching wine) smaller than what was advertised on the website & price of the food was the same and matching wine was £5 more. Food was beautifully presented and generally tasty. But I was disappointed from the start and I wasn't able to shake the feeling.

Vicky Ellis-Brown

One word... TREMENDOUS! The food cooked and served here is most definitely worthy of its Michelin commendation. The staff are very courteous and knowledgeable and the food is really worth the hype! Only two small criticisms: the lack of coatroom facilities especially in winter when it's impossible to arrive without heavy coats, scarves etc. which don't easily fit the back of the chair and the lack of local produce on the cheese board. However neither of these would stop us visiting here again!

The best food I have had in Ludlow. Really good but also the most expensive, we paid a £100 per head for the 6 course tasting with a Bootle of wine to share and coffee plus a champagne aperitif each. We were a bit pevied to be charged extra for coffee and biscuits. Service was very nice and friendly and the resteraunt had a great ambiance. Would we go back - Yes but for a special occasions.

Excellent food and service! The decor could do with a little modernising and the music was quite depressing. A slightly upbeat playlist would improve the overall ambience.

C
Charles Truelove

Nice food, but not spectacular, and at this price something spectacular is needed. We ate the tasting menu, and it is beautifully presented but just not quite exciting enough. The room and the service are excellent. I really wanted to give this 5 stars, but just can't.

We had great expectations for this restaurant during our short trip to Ludlow. The food was wonderful but the overall atmosphere wasn't. Amazing building, full of character, but lacking something. We felt like we had taken a trip back in time. It wasn't our kind of place, but the food was excellent.

I was here last night for my birthday treat and it was absolutely outstanding. The food was cooked to perfection (the duck with fennel was a revelation), the service was excellent and we had a fantastic night. They lose a star because unfortunately I was a little chilly all evening. It is an old building but apart from 15th-century heating it's a fabulous venue. I hope I can return soon and I recommend Mortimer's to anyone who appreciates fine food in a gorgeous setting.

It didn’t meet expectations. We had the tasting menu, which took almost three hours. There are some great dishes, some ok ones, but also a deceiving one, so it’s an up-and-down menu. Older menu pictures look pretty similar, so you’d expect bullet-proof flavours and execution, but it's not quite there. The first two dishes were lovely. The duck had terrific elements like the parfait, but the crispy skin tasted stale fat. The sea trout was perfectly cooked, but the vegetables didn't integrate. The beef was amazingly tender, and the burnt shallots were a good complement, but the confit onion mash was too thick and not very flavourful. The first dessert was a mystery: a simple and muted vanilla ice cream with blackberries, a pistachio ice cream and a cake that didn't combine with the other elements. The chocolate and hazelnut dessert returned to a good level, so we had a good taste to end with. It is a good restaurant, for sure, and the service is fabulous, but we had better food —or at least as good— at other restaurants in Ludlow for less than half the price, so it would not be my first option when coming back to Ludlow.

What a disappointment! We splashed out for our 10th anniversary. The amuse bouches were tasty, especially the tiny cheese flan. Three breads with three flavoured butters were interesting but having eaten this we were feeling rather full. My partner enjoyed the beef but the cod was flavourless and overcooked. We were given mediocre strawberries and ice cream before our chosen dessert, a divine chocolate parfait for me and a very good cheeseboard for my partner. At the prices charged we were determined to eat everything but this was a mistake as we ended up completely stuffed and uncomfortable. It seems that the strategy is to provide enough food for two meals for normal appetites. We would much have preferred half the quantity and twice the quality, especially as we paid probably four times as much as we're used to in our local restaurants. We won't be coming again and feel really let down by a restaurant with an established name.

We were really excited to have a special birthday lunch here... but we just didn’t enjoy it! The atmosphere was stuffy, the restaurant was quiet. The food was presented amazingly. The goats cheese was sharp and accompanied by sharp pickled sides, and just overall not pleasant. Then had cod with lentils, fish cooked great but again just didn’t match with a heavy gravy jus. Staff were amazing tho. Unsure if we’d try it again due to price but it might just have been a bad day for our taste.

We had high expectations that weren't met. This is a beautiful restaurant but the food didn't match the price tag. Amuse bouche was nice enough. Breads and butters okay. Scallops were lovely but we've had much better. The duck was nice, the trout was overcooked and, although the beef was lovely, nothing special. The dessert courses again were nice but not amazing. We expected some wow factor but we got nice enough food with nothing standing out. The service was wonderful though and we had a lovely night. We wouldn't return for the food. Although we don't doubt the quality of the produce, the flavours presented didn't impress us.

T
Timo Heikkilä

Had high expectations as the place came highly recommended. We had the taster menu with wine and asked the front of house to book us a taxi when they recommended we would be done - we had long waits between courses (we started earlier than perhaps most other tables but noted we had to wait for others to catch up, and at one point waited with an empty table for more than 45min as the others were having a cheese course we didn't opt for) and at the end of 3 hrs meal had 2 of the 6 courses with wine withinin 15 mins, and the bill put in front of us before the last dish had been served - just about when the taxi had been organised. Reasonable food (although don't for the life of me understand what the marshmallow was doing on the plate of duck, and some other sweet elements were a bit misplaced in my opinion) but the waits and especially the mad rush at the end left a sour taste after a meal in excess of £100pp..
