I drive cross country and i happen to stay at the quality in and came across this gem and i can tell you everything has been amazing that i have had drinks food are great service is also amazing i hightly recommend this place anytime its a little more upscale but i feel no different walking in comfortable then anyone dressed up they make you feel welcome
Absolutely the best steak in town! Everything was excellent from the food the service. This is right up there with Flemmings Stake house. The sides were excellent as well as the drinks. We will be back! Eat here if you want an amazing meal.
This is the first review Ive ever posted. When it comes to service, Lucky and the gang set the gold standard. As for the food? Its even better. Cant wait to get back and try the meatloaf. I was too busy with the pork chop and the steaks. You get what you pay for in this world and Hole in One is the real deal.
We celebrated our son's birthday recently at Hole In One Cafe. The food & service were top notch. The atmosphere was great - not too loud, tables were not close together.
The hole in one is the pinnacle of fine dining in East Texas!. Not once in my 18 years of eating there(I am a charter member)have I ever been disappointed. Food, drinks, service, atmosphere are all top notch. I have frequented fine restaurants around the world 3 times and I still come here anytime I am remotely close to Lufkin. Take my advice! Go there you will not be disappointed!
I was told about this place from my hotel front desk. It looks like a motel bar from the outside but the inside says fine dining. My bar tender, (Alexia I think her name was), suggested the chicken fried steak with the corn pudding and mashed potatoes. This chicken fried is not even close to what you would expect. It is in a class by itself. The steak was tender as could be and the gravy was not anything like a standard cream gravy. They call it a tequila cream sauce and it was tremendous. The best chicken fried steak I have ever had but it is not the standard type... Now the corn pudding, which I am usually not a fan of, was flavorful and airy. The only thing normal about this plate was the fantastic mashed potatoes. This place is a definite hidden gem in Lufkin, Tx.. The service and people working there were all top notch and friendly. I will be going back at least once a week while I'm in this area working.
Love the food! Great menu and chefs that know how to prepare great food. Some of the best bread pudding I have ever tasted. One of the most original appetizers is the oyster nachos and they are wonderful.
Having relocated to Lufkin this restaurant is a breath of fresh air. The menu is wonderful, the staff are friendly and welcoming. The price points are so very reasonable compared to the high and mighty CA. Compliments to the staff AND chef.
You wouldn't know it just driving by (and don't let the fact that it's attached to a budget motel fool you) but there's a real cook in the kitchen. Great flavors! Spoiler alert...Don't eat the pork chops if you ever want to enjoy pork chops somewhere else - nobody can beat that sauce!
One of the best Ribeye's I've ever had paired with a corn pudding that also can't be beaten. Excellent cocktails (I recommend the Jack and redneck ginger), beautiful waitresses and be prepared for a longer than "normal" wait after you order. These aren't microwaved entrees from Applebees.... A diamond in the Heart of Texas.
The best Staff I've seen in years. The food is excellent and the drinks are correctly proportioned. This Cafe is a wonder. It's well maintained and the parking is well lighted and spacious. Definitely coming back.
Delicious pork shops, fresh veges, and great service! The salad dressings are homemade too. The blue cheese was outstanding! I highly recommend dinner here when you are in Lufkin.
Great place to eat and chill after a long day of working. The food is great, the atmosphere is perfect, and the staff are friendly and attentive. A convenient 2 minute walk from 4 different hotels. Whenever I visit Lufkin it's a place I'll always go back to!
The food here is amazing I actually work the front desk at the hotel. I've never had anyone complain about the food. Fresh produce and meat and you can taste the difference made to order and always fresh!
A real gem! Anytime I’m around Lufkin, I’m stopping in. Great food and the atmosphere is perfect. Totally dig it !!
My dinner was delicious and fresh, but the long haired waitress was the best part. I would highly recommend it. Best food in town!
Steaks are good, side dishes provide surprising variety and the cheesecake was amazing. Service is outstanding. Definitely fine dining experience.
Every opportunity I have to eat here, I do. It is not what you expect in a hotel restaurant in Lufkin, tx. You would think you are in downtown hotel restaurant in a big city. Selections are excellent. Check out the menu online and go soon!
I almost don't want to post an excellent review, because I plan on going back and I don't want to fight for a table, lol. It was wonderful. Everything. I don't know how I've missed it until now. Highly recommended.
Nice atmosphere and delicious food! What more could you want? Great service from Wes. He was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. I had the Chicken Gumbo and a Southwest salad. Both were delicious!
I had their pork chop. It was amazing, it was cooked perfectly. The sides were good as well. Definitely recommend.
Leandra and Joe are absolutely running this place right. Leandra is so friendly and welcoming while Joe is mixing up the best Old Fashion I’ve ever had. The food was exquisite and the service is even better. Love IT I got to edit this as I do when I’m blown away twice. Wes is definitely running the place to perfection with his old fashioned and keeping all the customers taken care. Him and his partner definitely make the place a great dining experience. I had the pleasure of eating the Louisiana BBq shrimp and it was on point. Love IT
Omg this place was amazing! I was a guest at the Quality Inn, Lufkin TX, where this location is located inside of, August 2024. For 13 dollars, my socks were blown off!! Food absolutely amazing! Decent size portions. The Garlic and Herb red potatoes were better than my mom's. (Sorry mom) If there was one thing I would suggest, please separate the sides, so that the bottom of the burger doesn't get soggy.
Definitely a great place. Everything made in house, the blue cheese dressing is outstanding. Ordered a chicken parm, really nice. Definitely eat here again, and again. Had a couple cold shiner books with my meal. Perfect
I'm hesitant to write about this spot as I've lived and worked here for more than three years and was just introduced to it, so it's kept a low profile, but here we are. Attached to one of the lowliest of motels in Lufkin, you'll find a nice quiet and, believe it or not, classy little restaurant. Hole in one serves top-notch american classics like chicken fried steak but also a few international favorites like butter chicken. I tried the shrimp and grits and have no complaints. The Dr. Pepper carnitas should be shared as one appetizer will top you off. The butter chicken was very good and the spice level is adjustable. Who woulda thunk right? Just don't tell people you don't like about this place! Price-wise, you can easily spend more at Whataburger on a combo than some of the entrees here.
I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express which is across the parking lot from this restaurant which is located in the Quality Inn. I asked the front desk clerk for a restaurant recommendation and she said the food at Hole In One is good but a little pricey. She said that Chicken Fired Steak was $28. This piqued my curiosity and I had to go try it. I walked over and sat at the bar where the service was great. I did try the Chicken Fried Steak and this is definitely not your grandmother's chicken fried steak. It is a center cut filet hammered out thin, battered and fried. I travel quote a bit and it is always nice to find the hidden gems along the way. The Hole in One will be my go to restaurant any time I am in the Lufkin area. I strongly recommend you give this restaurant a try and specifically the Chicken Fried Steak.
A small formal restaurant with cloth tablecloths, crystal drinking glasses, and metal silverware in a cloth napkin. A variety of food for the adult pallette. There was a bar was well. The food was delicious. The locals recommended it to us. I didn't see any children menus or high chairs.
What a hidden gem! I rarely give tens for my whole meal. Had the Mahi Mahi with green beans and red potatoes. Everything was a perfect 10. It's nice inside, and if you want to get a drink at the bar and watch sports that is also an option. TV was turned down, so it didn't mess with the atmosphere. I was told a local favorite and it was much better than I anticipated. It's located inside the Quality Inn so that really threw me off at first. I would eat here any time I'm in the area again. Staff was friendly and prompt! Thank you Lucky!!
About as nice of a restaurant as you would expect to find in Lufkin. Really nice inside white tablecloths good wine a decent prices excellent side salad with an amazing house dressing - mustard. Wes is an amazing host. Professional. Explains the menu choose well. I had a great Cab here - from Cali The restaurant us in the same building as the hotel and it’s a decent hotel. If you stay here it’s just a walk around the corner to the restaurant and walk back when you’re done.
What a great place to dine. A serious diamond in the “rough”. Hole In One Cafe. Upscale atmosphere, very friendly and professional staff, and the meals were wonderful. If I lived closer this would be a regular establishment for me.

Surprised by quality of food we ordered. Egg rolls and gumbo unique and tasty. Roasted potatoes, green beans, side salad, dressing, just right. Meatloaf was ok. Drinks great.
Eat here a few weeks back while on a business trip. It was recommended for the best steak around. When I arrived I was promptly greeted and sat with my drink order taken. I am a ribeye steak guy but the fillet was recommended by several that I worked with. I had a salad with the blue cheese dressing, potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and the best tasting steak I’ve ever had. The house style 8oz. fillet. It was phenomenal. Definitely recommend and will return should I visit this area again.
The hardest working bartender in the industry. Wes Good guy. Good food. If you are in Lufkin go there. You won’t be disappointed . And order the pork chops
This is our first visit to the hole in one and I was impressed. The food was exceptional as was the environment. This restaurant has a dish invented by the owner's father that is outstanding. I had a unique chicken fried steak. Not a "Texas" chicken fried steak, with unique sauce and not made from skirt steak so to call it chicken fried steak was kind of a disservice. The sides were exceptional. I loved the corn pudding. The dessert menu had 2 choices, I had the bread pudding which was also unique since it uses croissant bread instead of another choice. We will go again and look forward to the visit. I will add more as I learn more. The resteraunt is only open for dinner, but the nurse who recommended this location gets takeout frequently and we may have to try this. Enjoy! 😍
This hole in the wall restaurant is SO AMAZING! MAC our waitress was sweet and mad a kick ass dirty martini! The food was spectacular ( I had the Louisiana BBQ Shrimp, Asparagus and MacnCheese with a side salad with raspberry vinaigrette) I honestly have to say It’s one of the BEST meals I have ever had). The ambience is very nice, light jazz with low candle like lights. Everything was perfect! My mom had the 16oz Ribeye cooked to perfection with brussel sprouts and garlic roasted potatoes. She said it was delicious! DEFINITELY a must visit place!

My husband treated me to dinner for my 60th birthday. The restaurant is small but clean, staff pleasant and the food was surprisingly good. We have had our share of horrible dining experiences in Lufkin, so this was a pleasant surprise! I had the Butter Chicken and my husband had the Chicken fried steak.
As a frequent visitor to family in Lufkin, I highly recommend the HIO. We have been dining there as long as they have been open and it is always a "Cheers" experience for us to go there and see someone we know every time. The menu compares well to good dining venues in large cities and the food is well prepared and delicious. The drinks are great and the service is very good. This is a great little place if you're i Lufkin and want to dine at a place you won't find among the chains along any other highway.
Good food and service. Some foods are more expensive than its worth. Choose wisely. Loved the chicked fried steak, defintely worth. You will enjoy the food here.
Every once and a while we stop by to eat here. This time was because the places we wanted to go were closed. We arrived when they opened the doors and we were promptly seated. Food: The food was good overall. The steak was good not great, not over seasoned and cooked to the correct temp. The Green beans were meh, but the brown butter brussel sprouts absolutely rocked. I could have just eaten a plate of them. My wife had the shrimp and grits. There were good not great. The salads they served had way too much salad dressing. I suggest putting it in a ramekin for the customer to put on the salad themselves. Atmosphere: The overhead can light seemed a bit bright and took away from the relaxed atmosphere they try to portray. While we were waiting on our dinner we were entertained by one of the workers trying to remove a balloon from the ceiling from a previous seating. The broken windows that could be observed as we came in, took away the feel of the place. Service: The server was attentive and cordial and we appreciate the attention to detail. She took care of our needs gave us space when needed but paid attention to our potential needs. Since we have been here before we had some expectations and I feel they they are not the same as they once were. I don't think they are bad at all and I encourage people to stop by. I just think small fixes will bring them back even better.
Our first time here. Our waiter, Wes, was efficient & attentive, but could have been more engaging & friendly. He did warm up some. Good bartender, enjoyed our cocktails, tho a bit too much ice. The appetizer of shrimp & grits cocktail was excellent! The shrimp was firm with a clean taste, the grits cakes were really tasty, the cocktail sauce was tops. Our salads were excellent, fresh greens with a very good house dressing. Hubby enjoyed his unusual entree of chicken fried tuna. My entree of chicken fried steak was disappointing. It was flavorful, but the steak had not been pounded out, it was tough, the breading was far larger than the steak & did not adhere. I would not order it again....do it right or go home! Wes asked me about it, I gave my comments, got zero response. Our sides were great! Loved the whipped potatoes & corn pudding. Desserts were tempting but we declined. All in all, we would definitely go back.

The order was getting too long. We waited more than 60 mins for the food and at the time we arrived, the restaurant only had 2 people. The foods were average nothing special, the mahi mahi was a little salty. Taste and price dont go along.
I was told this place was great so we thought we'd give it a try. Interior is nice, it is laid out much like a comfortable bar or cafe, but dressed up a bit. And by dressed up I mean White linens I'm the tables. The sound carried a bit more than it should, it sounded more like a diner, where you are aware of all the conversations around you, but can't make out what they are saying. Maybe some wall hangings would have helped. We were seated by our server, who was not rude, but also not pleasant. Didn't introduce himself, didn't ask how we were. The first word out of his mouth were "what can I get you to drink" This came within seconds of handing us the menu. Hadn't even had time to see what they had. I quickly cracked the menu to find the wine and drink listings, but found nada. So I asked for the beverage menu. He left, went to 2 other tables before returning with the drink menu. We weren't in a hurry, so it wasn't the end of the world, but for someone who seemed in a hurry to get our drink order, he sure wasn't rushed to get us the wine list There were a few decent wine choices, but we opted for the bar instead, 2 Long Island teas. Let me save you some time here. Just don't. They were not good, at all. Not sure how you make a long island bitter, but they were. Wife wouldn't even finish hers The dinner menu had lots of interesting choices. Almost 50% of the items were things I was interested in trying. We settled on Chicken Marsala and Pork Melenese (sp?). Chicken was overcooked, tough and dry The Marsala sauce was not Marsala sauce at all. Had very little flavor In fact, it tasted almost exactly like the cream sauce that was on the pork Melenese. Which also had very little flavor. The pork was also slightly overcooked. It was not tender and juicy. It was slightly better than the chicken. Neither of us finished our entrees and we're not willing to even consider a desert. I fell.like this place has the potential to be great, but a few things would have to improve for us to consider coming back Food quality, drink quality, and quality of service, all are in need of a boost.
Nice place tucked in Quality Inn hotel. White linen tablecloths. Steak was not a $38 cut. Bland taste. Balsamic glazed carrots were inedible. Waitress was lacking in service training. Served my food and never came back. Asked another server that came by for doggie bag to feed leftover steak about 1/2 of 16 oz to dog. She finally came by and asked if I wanted to go container. Not “how was your steak”? Or was everything ok? I see other good reviews. I can understand misses on food but service is the same for everyone. Pretty standard stuff!
Very disappointed in our waiter tonight. He was very short with us as if he was in a hurry. We were their only customer so not sure why the rush. He knocked the pepper off the table onto the floor. Much to my surprise he picked it up and put it right back on our table. Sorry but I didn't think that was very classy. The food was great like always. If I'm going to spend close to 100 dollars on just myself and my wife I kinda expect to be treated a like they want us there and not as if they rather be elsewhere. Hope Lucky reads this.
Steak was cooked just right but had a large gristle through the middle not a big fan of the fried potato. Service slow even though they were not crowded. Might give them another chance could have been an off night everyone has them
Well our first and last time here. Ordered the pork chop. It was way under cooked. Then got it back over cooked and my sides over cooked. I don't recommend this place.
I expected more, i was not impressed with the food. Steak was bland. Had very little taste. The sauce on the fish made it taste good. If it was not for that sauce it would be the same as the steak. Needed more help only 3 people in front and had a hard time keeping up with the demand of the customers.

Food was TERRIBLE!! It was like a frozen dinner's delinquent stepson. The description said "most elegant and tasteful", yet it was the worst restaurant food I've ever had!
I hate to do this. I’m usually in town two or three times a month. I eat her at least twice a month. I spent two hours tonight. Never got my food. The bartender was frustrated and I noticed others just walking out. So. I’m having a McDonald’s burger tonight. Very disappointed. I never got my food. Just left.
