I enjoyed El Arroyo. The food was great. The atmosphere was all that I needed it to be. The staff was friendly, attentive, went above and beyond. I give it 10/10.Staff Stephen and Jason and the young lady( dark hair ponytail ) were great!!!
J’son made this first time experience memorable! He suggested we try the Cactus Kiss and it did not disappoint. We had tacos, enchiladas, a few apps etc.. Reasonably priced and the food was delicious and hot when we got it. Would recommend this location for the food, environment, and friendly staff.
I had never been to this place but my husband used to frequent when he was at UT when it first opened in the 70’s. He said it had not changed the food was really good and Shae waited on us and was super sweet. I would definitely visit again but we do live in Houston. This will be on our list for returns to Austin.
Had such a great experience at El Arroyo. The food was amazing and the service was even better. Everyone was extremely friendly and attentive. My shrimp and beef fajitas were very tender and flavorful. 10/10 would recommend. They even added a strawberry rose to my flan!
Great Service! Everyone is super friendly and on point! The little gift shop is super cool and the place is fun. The food is fine. You can't beat $9 margaritas, stick with the basics like enchiladas and tacos, they're fine and are cheap, great fresh Avocados. The fajitas were good. Stay away from the fish tacos, a little too dried out.
8 stars out of 5. (Lunch) - The kindness and genuine smiles of a great, attententive and prompt but not overbearing service, topped by excellent advice (Thank you dear lady with blond hair) - The best chips I have ever tried. Hands down. - Superb Tacos, fantastic rice and an outstanding guacamole that will make you reconsider what the guacs you had before. - Magnificent borracho beans. (Thank you dear lady with blue highlights) All of that, really well priced. Bang for your buck, it's really, really hard to beat. A truly superb and friendly experience, + they have funny signs, just in case you missed it. To sum it up, it was the first time of life that I left a 100% tip, and it was absolutely worth it. Fight me on that. El Arroyo: See you next year
Three of us gathered here for an early lunch and sat out on the patio. A very friendly server immediately greeted us with complimentary chips and salsa. She was very patient with us when we talked for a few before even looking at the menu. When we did get food, it was scrumptious! The kitchen very kindly put together a tamale plate even though it was a day they didn’t normally serve them, and we also had chicken tortilla soup and mole enchiladas. Still love this old favorite!
Finally came in for lunch, I pass by El Arroyo often working in Austin. Very cool Austin original and the sign is obviously famous around the internet for its trendy statements. Definitely a place to mark off my bucket list……I got the fried avocado 🥑 plate, Trudy’s is famous for the stuffed avocado but El Arroyo has it too! Too bad I was working and couldn’t enjoy some beer and margaritas!!! Maybe next time.
Seat yourself when you walk in. Food is AMAZING. Great flavor all around. They don’t have fountain drinks, they are cans. So just be prepared for that. This was our first time and we will definitely be back. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Went around 4:50 on a Sunday and was in and out within an hour. Seriously can’t get over how delicious my meal was. I got the Santa Fe enchiladas with sour cream sauce. TO DIE FOR. That flavor is not comparable. BBQ chicken I wasn’t sold on until I tasted it. Oh my goodness it’s delicious! You really can’t go wrong with anything you choose. 12/10 recommend. Others with me said “It smacked” “it was bussin” :)
We were planning to eat at another smaller vendor around the area. When we were driving around looking for parking, we found this restaurant. It’s nice to have their parking to make it easier for their customers. I am glad that we found this restaurant. The family is friendly, the restaurant is cozy and clean, and the food has great value and tastes good. We highly recommend it.
Jarred gave me an exceptional experience. the kitchen had closed and they still served me a full and wonderful meal. I'll be back for sure, thank you guys so much!
Incredible tacos, atmosphere, and service! We came here for lunch for my bestie's bachelorette and her meal was on the house! would've given 5 stars anyway but that was above & beyond!

An Austin institution - great drinks and delicious TexMex. Their salsa is so delish and never mind the sour cream enchiladas.

Stopped for lunch and was stuffed for the rest of the day! Huge portions, good food, friendly staff. The chicken enchilada soup was my favorite.

The sign is hilarious. The location has two patios and an interior dining room. Lots of open air seating for those concerned about disease prevention. The menu is typical tex mex, with some surp…
We walked there and back in the heat to see the sign and have a drink. Personal service, amazing Bloody Mary & margarita. Has we not had brunch we'd have eaten as the food looked great. Also go…
Finally visited the iconic El Arroyo after 3 years of living in Austin—and it was worth the try! I tried the chicken & beef fajitas, the Cowboy Burrito, and the real star: their $9 margarita, which I honestly consider one of the best in town. Flavorful, strong, and such a steal. Service could’ve been better, but overall, it’s a yes from me. Classic Austin vibes! And i do recommend taking picture with their famous marquee sign.
We are snobs when it comes to Mexican food but El Arroyo was better than I was expecting! I really wanted to try it because it’s an icon in Austin and I was very surprised that it wasn’t a tourist trap. Chips were delicious. Margaritas were good. Food was legit. Service was great!! Definitely worth the trip!

Wow. Really trying to like this place. It is were good but the ambience lacking. The manager never spoke to anyone. Extremely uninviting. Probably will never come back.

The food is very good but the service was average. The real reason to eat here are the signs. They sell books, magnets and more with their best sayings.

El Arroyo came highly recommended. I figured I’d stop and check it out and get a meal to go. It was in the middle of the day between lunch and dinner. I ordered a salad and a side of chips and queso. The chips were meh at best. While the hostess was very pleasant, I cannot say that the food lived up to the expectation. The chips & queso was like nacho cheese and the serving size of the chips was a small sandwich size bag. The salad was okay but lack luster. The greens was simply shredded lettuce. It was a bit bland. Perhaps dinning in is a better experience & portion sizes but I would not recommend take out.
Disgusting bathroom, strange service, fine food nothing special. Drinks were good and fun

tacos el pastor- near miss, meat tough..a/c still not working, pina colada good, salsa a-ok... not a, "wish I could eat that again meal
Took a road trip from Houston to visit this place. I have been following them on social media and absolutely love their clever signs. Unfortunately, that’s all El Arroyo has to brag about in my opinion. I’m so sad I couldn’t give this place a 4 star or higher review. Starting with the positive, our waiter was friendly and attentive. That’s pretty much the only good I can say about our experience. Food was basic, chips were basic and the restaurant needed some repairs. I understand it’s Austin and it’s supposed to have a “feel” of odd, different or just all around not ordinary, but clean needs to be a priority. The main indoor dining room was pretty small, but there was also plenty of outdoor seating. Bathrooms were very much in need of attention. So glad I visited the restroom after eating because I probably would have walked out if I saw that space first. El Arroyo, I wish it would have gone better. Reviews like this make me sad especially when I was so excited to visit. $41 (minus tip) for 2 and didn’t even have an adult beverage. A little pricey for the quality and value of our experience.

Worse than mediocre – flavorless. Lunch special w/beef taco, cheese enchilada, refried beans & rice. Ground beef had zero seasoning and the bottom of the store-bought taco shell disintegrated. …
Terrible service! Terrible food! The kitchen is filthy! The so-called party room is right next to a garbage area! Do not host group meals here under any circumstances! It’s a nightmare! The food is overpriced! There’s no service! The staff are kind but inexperienced! The food is cheap in quality but sold at a high price!we have 50people each pay $80!Not worth it.
