Tip: Try the breakfast burrito with your choice of protein and don't skip the coffee. The green sauce is preferred over the red sauce by some.

I didn’t spend much time in the shop as I ordered in advance for pick up. My order was hot and ready to go at my scheduled pick up time. Staff was extremely friendly, but the gem of the ball was the brisket burrito generously stubbed with eggs, brisket, tater tots, I asked for salsa on the side to preserve the burritos fresh flour tortilla.
This place is amazing! It's a must try local business to support. They have vegan and vegetarian options. I usually order a Mushroom al pastor taco and add black beans with blue corn tortilla. The coffee and drinks from Cafe Cafe mobile coffee is a must! They have coffee teas and more. I fell in love with coffee because of this place I recommend the vanilla latte or the turmeric latte. 🌱
Absolutely delicious! They combine common ingredients just right. My favorite is the breakfast burrito. The hardest part is deciding which protein to get. Vegetarian or non-vegetarian are both delicious. Each choice of protein is combined with a sauce, depending on the protein you get, and each of those combinations complements the burrito very well.
Update: It can be rather confusing here because there are 3 things going on at this place: Milpas Grille, Macheen and Cafe Cafe. Milpas Grille is only open from M-F after 11am. Macheen is open M-Sat 8am-2pm. Food adventure can sometimes be the only way to get Angelenos drive out to unfamiliar neighborhoods. In my 30+ years in LA, I have only ever ventured to Boyle Heights once, to try Quisados. Today we drove out to try Milpas and it was an amazing experience. We love their reinterpretation of Mesoamerican food. Flavors are unique, intense, and simply gorgeous to see. Can't wait to go back again.
Who knew a bowl without rice could taste so good. Quality ingredients and more than enough portion on my plate. I ordered the milpa bowl. I came because I learned that they have a fridge outside for the community and I wanted to support their business. Stop by, you won't regret it. A lot of Healthy options!
The breakfast burritos are one of the best in California, if not the best. Go for the pork belly breakfast burrito, it's my fav. If the tortilla was better, and it came with extra salsa, it would be perfect! Protip:. Don't forget the agua frescas! They are madly delicious here! IG: kay_okay_eat
Milpa has an array of foods that will satisfy your craving for traditional Latino foods, can’t miss out on the Burritos, Tacos and my personal fav Enchilada plate. Can mix and match meats. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a Lavender Latte. 10/10 service is very hospitable.
I can’t say enough good things about Milpa! Def my fav cafecito en todo Boyle heights 💗 not only are the drinks and food delicious but the atmosphere is sooo cozy — playlist is always 12/10 too! You can really feel the intention behind their offerings and service. My go to order is the breakfast burrito with extra taters and a cocoa cafe latte! ü
Very good service, great breakfast burrito, and amazing Tacos. The tortillas were amazing, the sauce was delicious and the biriani was so tasty. Also the Cafe De Olla hot is freaking amazzzzinnngggg!!! The cold one with cold foam is also great, but there is just so much flavor and deliciousness in the hot one.
Best salad ever. There has not been a salad that I have tasted that is better than this place. They have bowls that are good as well, but if you don't like salad, try this one and you will become a believer. It has a cilantro lime dressing that is the best! I order the extra chicken that gives it a great flavor.
Very tasty breakfast burrito. Raising the bar with the ingredients. Tots in the burrito were a bit oily if I’m being picky but delicious nonetheless. Service was nice and vibe was cool. Looking forward to trying other things from the menu. However, I am confused if this is Milpa Kitchen or Macheen or both??
I had gone to a school introduction meeting at my child's school for Alliance School by First and Rowan Street. The school administrators said they were going to get dinner. I did not expect a "dinner" dinner. I thought a dinner was like pizza, that they would give out. Instead, they wanted to bring out something healthy. And brought out a lot of bowls of healthy chicken and pork and milpa salad. Since there was hardly any other parents at the meeting, they invited me to take more than one bowl. So I took one of pork, chicken, and salad. This was the freshest cooked salad food I had ever tasted! The green salsa was excellent! I drank it from the 1.5 oz container they had it in. The sellable pic, was missing six slices of avocados which I ravenously ate. The chicken was juicy, grilled, beautifully spiced, and one of the best tasting chickens from a Latino grill. Excellent food and excellent taste. I will certainly come back here again. Thank you you Alliance Middle School for introducing Milpa to us. It's a gem in the east side!
Hands down to the best breakfast burito with crispy pork. There is no words can describe this great burito. Just the burito tho, the coffee not really good.
Update Aug. 2023 Indoor seating is available now..bomb lavender horchata Saw this place Macheen on Instagram .. it's 3 shared restaurant/coffee in 1 location. Morning guy was very nice n friendly ..service was excellent.. I tried their famous Breakfast Burrito w/fried pork belly.. it was FREAKING DELICIOUS.. Very creamy with the soft scrambled eggs n Swiss cheese, and crispy with the pork n TATER TOTS.. I didn't even need the salsa (it's good).. and a vanilla latte..
Great breakfast burritos with yummy flavors. Coffee is also very good. You can tell the food is fresh. Service is a little slow but thats because its fresh!
I always come here at this point when my mom has Dr's appointments at the hospital. The staff is great, the owner, chefs everyone. The food is delicious, the COFFEE is DEVINE. The first time I came I had to buy a second coffee is was so good and they gave me STICKERS. I get the fried chicken breakfast burrito, my mom loves the longoniza breakfast burrito, the mushrooms al pastor breakfast macheen tacos, the brown Cafe, the cacoa Cafe. Great atmosphere, clean bathrooms, great pricing, indoor and outdoor seating.
I have been meaning to review this cute little spot for a while now so I’m here to say if you’re thinking about eating here do yourself a favor and do it! The food is flavorful, the drinks are delicious, and everyone who works here always provides great customer service (& also very fast). The ambiance is also really cute since they play good music! I recommend their breakfast burritos, milpa bowl, & lavender chamomile tea! 🌸🔆💓
Stopped into this quaint cafe/restaurant on the way into the office. You order at the counter and they called out to pick up the drink but brought food to the table. I had the longaniza breakfast burrito and cafe de olla. The burrito was tasty with not over-done eggs and a slightly spicy sausage. The accompanying aioli was a nice addition. The cafe de olla is simple with its delicious cinnamon flavor. I would come again and look forward to trying one of their aguas.
Always a delight to come to Milpa Kitchen at Boyle Heights! My brother comes to visit me and we make it our tradition brunch to order off their menu: breakfast burritos. He enjoys the birria and mine the crispy pork belly! Service is very polite, very thorough on their ingredients and vibrant cooking! I immensely enjoyed lunch with their Milpa Salad, grilled chicken to perfection, mixed savory veggies, creamy cilantro-lime sauce on the side! I haven’t ate nopales in a long time, I had the pleasure to eat back into my Latina Roots!
Milpa was unreal. Super kind staff who helped me order, insane tortillas, and the mushroom tasted so meaty and wonderful (crazy!). Every combo felt like art—but the breakfast taco was next level. Still thinking about it.
Finding street parking is definitely worth the quality, taste and great atmosphere of this hidden gem. I love the cute outdoor sitting. I had the Milpa Bowl and it was healthy and delicious. Will def be back with the family.
First timer at Milpa , came around noon ordered a breakfast burrito with sausage truly one of the best burritos I’ve had unlike in LA’s that fast food processed meat and cheese. Along with chicken tacos giving an authentic flavor and experience along side the cactus corn sides. Service was great bilingual and recommended Hibiscus strawberry beverages-which I have never been a fan of - that were sweet and flavorful. Will be coming back !
Everything from start to finish was so delicious. Service was fast, especially during our lunch hour . They had a nice corner where you can sit outside by the street . Definitely will be coming back
The atmosphere was chill and full of good vibes. I ordered a birria breakfast burrito, pork belly breakfast taco, and berry Jamaica. All delicious. Solid 9.5/10 will come again. Only thing I wish is if they put the prices on the menu but other than that amazing place and you don’t need to worry about supporting a business that does not care for others. Party of 3 paid $70-$80: three burritos, two tacos, three drinks.
1st time eating here, my coworker and I had seen this place while walking by, I decided to give it a shot today, Juan the guy who was taking care of our order is very friendly and answered my questions without hesitation. I had the brisket burrito and passion fruit tea, both were delicious. The place is not huge but has a small patio which is so cool to enjoy the meal and the fresh air. I would definitely have to go again and try different dish mandate their coffee. Personally I would recommend this place to anyone who's craving a burrito or coffee.
The food was phenomenal, we ordered the breakfast burrito with mushrooms. You can tell that they use quality ingredients and take a lot of care curating their menu. It was the perfect size to satiate being hungry without being overly full. The iced turmeric oat milk latte and lavender horchata were perfectly refreshing. The customer service was great too. Honestly this spot is a gem!
I inhaled that burrito and that was the best lavender chamomile with agave tea ever. Workers were really nice and patient with my slow brain and blind eyes Ima come back 💕
Awesome little cafe/restaurant in Boyle heights. Breakfast burritos hit the spot, brisket is very good. Good down home mexican cooking. Had nopales and chicken tacos this visit with black beans and esquite. The pricing is very reasonable for the portions. Need to try some coffee next visit.
Visiting the area so wanted to grab coffee in the morning. We ordered the 48 hr cold brew and crispy pork belly breakfast burrito. Im usually not a break burrito fan but this one was outstanding. After my first bit, I just kept taking more bits. It was crispy, juicy and the right balance of eggs and hash brown. Very happy that we found this place.
Mexican food with a twist . Everything has its own unique taste and twist but so amazing in favor and simplicity super delicious and filling . Everyone is friendly and always willing to give recommendations. 10/10 definitely coming back and bring family and friends
Cool spot. Stumbled across it and gave it a swing. Blue corn tortillas which I wasn’t expecting and didn’t realize before ordered my. The Al pastor mushroom taco was delicious. Also got a Milpa bowl and that was delicious. The drinks were tasty. Don’t skip on the cookies or a coffee to go! Service was awesome as well and it has a nice cafe type vibe inside. Definitely coming back!
The menu is incredible and everything was delicious! I had the cold brew brown cafe style and the birria breakfast burrito. Highly recommend! The chipotle aioli is a star with its perfectly smoky and spicy flavor.
I ordered the Milpa Chicken bowl 🥣. It was good. It cost around $11.00. I enjoyed it. I also liked the green sauce better than the red sauce. I was really satisfied with the peach citrus honey tea. It cost $4.00. My tongue always feels refreshed when I drink a tasty iced tea like the peach citrus honey tea. The drink was perfect 👌. I appreciate 🙏 the good service here. The only downside is that you have to look for parking in the street and maybe pay for parking.

Loved the birria burrito. They were out of the longaniza so hope to try it next time! Also had the brown coffee which was tasty.
I was hoping to snag lunch but arrived too late so I ordered the honey cafecito latte and wow that was one of the lattes was an unexpected revelation in perfection of flavor. Whatever that coffee roast was - it was perfect with the honey and cream. I don’t know if I can go back to any other coffee shop now! I’m ruined.
Love everything about this little spot in Boyle Heights! Everything I've tried on their coffee menu is delicious. My go to breakfast taco is the brussel sprouts one! It's a small spot but there is never an issue with seating and the staff is very friendly.
We had an amazing lunch at Milpa! The pozole and taquitos de papa were both excellent! I highly recommend the esquites on the side too. Sadly we arrived overly-caffeinated but will return to try some of their delicious looking coffee drinks.
The best breakfast burrito in LA with the kindest staff. Always delicious. The burrito literally melts. The perfect size where I don't leave feeling super full/gross but just incredibly content & satisfied. Coffee is also delicious!!
Honestly, the crispy pork belly burrito is one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had, hands down. It's my go-to every time I stop by. Highly recommend it!

Tried the breakfast burrito and it was a letdown. It was greasy, bland, and forgettable. The Milpa Bowl was even worse, heavy without being flavorful, and definitely not something I’d recommend. The menu sounds better than the food actually tastes. For the price and hype, it just didn’t deliver.
Review of Milpa Kitchen: More Style Than Substance? I recently visited Milpa Kitchen on a Sunday, and while the space itself has a clean, curated aesthetic that’s clearly built to attract foodies or those looking for vegan/vegetarian options, the overall experience left quite a bit to be desired. To start, the Sunday menu is extremely limited—only offering burritos and tacos. While a focused menu can sometimes be a good thing, in this case it felt more like a restriction than a specialty. The brisket burrito I ordered was overly greasy and, unfortunately, underwhelming in flavor. Given the portion size and quality, the prices felt steep; $65 for 2 burritos, 1 order of tacos, coffee and tip. It’s the kind of meal that leaves you wondering what exactly you’re paying for beyond the branding. One small but noticeable detail: the café de olla, traditionally a rich and spiced Mexican coffee, was only available with non-dairy milk options like oat or almond milk. While it’s great to offer plant-based choices, having no dairy option at all felt unnecessarily limiting, especially for a beverage that traditionally relies on whole milk for its signature flavor. Overall, Milpa Kitchen feels like it’s tailored to a very specific crowd—those who prioritize aesthetic presentation and trendiness over value and substance. If you’re looking for food to compliment your selfies on Instagram or TikTok, this place might hit the mark. But if you’re after a satisfying, well-priced meal with depth and tradition, it may fall short.
