Great Tex-Mex restaurant! I particularly enjoy their fajitas and enchiladas.
We had a very good experience! The food and service were excellent.
We drive over an hour to get to El Phoenix and love coming every time we get a chance
We celebrated my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary here tonight. I know they starting going to the El Finex in Plano, The original.. then went for years to the one at the mall. I can remember being very young going every Friday night.. it was always so welcoming.. everyone knew us, and exactly what they ordered and even what delivery order as in what came to the table and when... super nice. HAPPY Anniversary Robert and Sharon Fagala ... yall sure have left a deep lasting impression of what love is.. and patients ...
El Fenix fell off for me but the last few times we came to the McKinney location it’s been fantastic all the way around.
We love it here, the price is right and the food is consistently delicious! Our waiter was on point.
Our server, Nahomy, was s sweetheart and very attentive. We had a large group; but her and her manager, Mayra, worked very hard. My first time here, I recommend this place and my server.
Our server Eddie was great. He was friendly, kind and had a wonderful smile.
Our favorite Mexican restaurant for over 40 years. I even enjoyed having a baby shower there in the back dining room 😍
My family and I have come to this location a lot since moving here!! There used to be so many and now I think there’s only two. Chips, salsa and margs are unmatched!! 20/10 Food is always amazing. Our server tonight was Naomi and she was so amazing I felt I needed to leave a review🩷
Very great service. Food was Hot and Fresh. Margarita was amazing. Got my first DUI that night!
We called ahead and the head waiter or whatever he was said he can get me right in. Met me at the door. Made sure the waitress took good care of us. I’m ashamed I don’t remember his name, young man, slender, sharp guy. I guess the margaritas were that good. I WILL be back soon
So great! One of the best Mexican food places i have ever been too!
The food was excellent, and our server Duc was exceptional in making sure we had everything we needed. Our lunch was enjoyable. We will definitely be back!
Excellent food. Good price. Ana took care of us very well.
El Fenix is amazing!! I always go here every year for my birthday, because their food is so good. Don’t just read my review and just think about going here, get up and go try El Fenix yourself! It’s so good I promise you won’t be disappointed. Last night we got our food in less than 10 minutes after being seated, it was an awesome experience. I have been going to El Fenix almost my whole life. Also shout-out to Leo, he is the best! He never fails to impress us.
El Fenix came in clutch with a last minute rehearsal dinner accommodations for 50 people. The service was fast, easy and accurate! The staff made our special day stress free. They were able to customize everything according to our needs, even at the last minute. Great and amazing place!
Everything was great. Had a very nice lunch with my daughter. We both enjoyed our meals which were served hot and by super friendly staff.
I have been here several times always good. My wife’s first time she loved it.
We love this El Fenix. The service is always fast and friendly. The chicken tortilla soup is full of flavor and chicken. We also love the beef enchiladas and the chips and salsa. The atmosphere is nice, as I can hear my dinner mates speaking to me from across the table. Oh, and I love the ice cold beer!
I was pleasantly surprised. I have eaten at this chain in the past after it sold and was not as pleased with the food as I could have been. Today it was every bit as good as it has ever been. I highly would recommend going to visit them.
15 man roofing crew and myself dined here several times/week while working at the Toyota Dealership next door. They are fast, great food, great service and the manager is very helpful. Highly recommend for any group size.
I recently dined at El Fenix in McKinney and was thoroughly impressed by their offerings. The nachos were a standout—crispy tortilla chips generously topped with flavorful seasoned chicken and accompanied by a dollop of sour cream. The combination of textures and flavors made for a delightful appetizer. Pairing the nachos with one of their signature margaritas was a perfect choice; the margarita was refreshing and well-balanced, complementing the savory nachos beautifully. The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting, and the service was attentive, making for an overall enjoyable dining experience. I highly recommend visiting El Fenix for a taste of their delicious nachos and margaritas.
Been going there over 50 years now and the food is always great.
Food was great, we really enjoy eating here, service could have been better, but we understand good help is hard to find, no knock on our waiter, he was an older gentleman & he was doing a lot as well doing his best to serve everyone in his area, we made sure to take care of him. Management was not engaged & hostess really did nothing but seat us, need to be better.
Always love to go here for a good Texmex food. We ordered chicken with mushroom and spinach!(yas!) This restaurant is one of the best in town. Their chips are so good not like the ones from the grocery cause it’s airy and crispy paired with just salsa! I would love to be back here.
The food we ordered was good and the service was good too. Recommended a good TexMexican restaurant for dinner or just to go👍👍
We went there for my sister's quincenera and let me tell you the food and service was amazing. Obviously, we had to reserve a place a few weeks before. We got there and the tables were set, clean and ready. The food was hot and ready to eat. Since it was a reserved party they had people constantly checking on us making sure we were good and if we needed refills. However, I'm sure that they take the same amount of care into normal meals. They came and sang happy birthday to my sister and made it a big deal which made her really happy! At the end they helped us put away the food and distribute it to the other families we invited. 5/5 stars and I recommend that you go and try.
Naomi was amazing, always had full drinks, took great care of us, love her! Great place!
Love this place. Delicious quesadillas!! Chips and salsa are great too. Affordable Mexican food compared to other restaurants in the area
I’ve been going to El Fenix for 50 years. Their recipes are standard and always pretty good. Service here was good. Quickly seated but there we’re about 5 or 6 tables we passed that has not been bussed. It was not the noon rush hour. They could really upgrade their margarita selection. There is not a selection that does not include the “mix”. Still it’s El Fenix and we will be back.
Can you ever go wrong with El Fenix? Nope! Although it seems they’ve changed the chips, they still have tue best queso and salsa. The food here always hits the spot. We just wish there were closer locations to us. They closed down the one in Lewisville years ago so we have to venture way out to either Plano or McKinney to visit one. Luckily we were in the area today and hit up the one in McKinney.
I usually get their enchilada special for Wednesdays food is ready for pickup quickly taste great!
Met high school friends for lunch today there and we had a wonderful time. Enjoyed the food and margaritas. Service was great!
Duc was an excellent server. Very attentive! I had the El Jefe plate and my wife had chicken enchiladas. The food came our very hot. It was tasty. The queso was okay but could be better. We like our meals. Ended with Sopapillas. They were really good. Will be back.
First time visiting the restaurant. Loved it. The chips and salsa was delicious. The food was hot and tasty and our server Catarino was polite and friendly. The manager Steffany made me the speciality drink Amor Eterno Cadillac and it was great. You only need one to get happy lol.
We had the pleasure of having Josue V as our server, he was so attentive and very friendly. Our happy hour drinks and food were very good. We were very content with our meals but even more impressed with Josue’s service. We will be back!
We visit El Fenix Several times a month. The food is Consistent. What We really enjoy is the waitress that takes care of us all the time, Nohemy. She has gotten to know, family, and asks about them. She pays attention to detail and always make sure that our order was perfect. I’ve heard that she is training to become a manager, and I can’t imagine a more perfect fit! Her smile lights up a room, and she is gentle and kind. What a win for this restaurant.
Great Food! My family and I came here for dinner on Saturday around 4:30pm. After walking in, we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. Once we were seated, we waited another 5-7 minutes to get our drink orders in. The server was very friendly and apologized about the wait. I think they are short staffed right now, as we only saw a few servers working the entire restaurant. The restaurant had a nice vibe, but it could really use a minor remodel. The restrooms were clean, which is always a great sign in my book. We all enjoyed chips and salsa while we waited for our food. Our food arrived at the table about 15 minutes after we placed our ordered. Everything looked great, tasted delicious, and was well worth the wait. My finance’s burrito was HUGE.. first time I haven’t seen him finish his meal in ages. I really liked the fact that they also have some delicious meatless options as well. I really enjoyed the Veggie Enchiladas. We were all very satisfied, and stuffed. The food was reasonably priced, and a great value for the money. I would definitely come back here again.
Love the traditional Tex Mex dishes. Tacos and enchiladas as I remember from years ago. Great salsa. The lemon pie dessert is excellent.

we enjoyed our dinner at El Fenix! Mary was excellent! The Monterey chicken is fabulous!
the food was quick and tasty and the waitress was kind! we will keep coming back! The salsa and chips are the best!
El fenix was a great place for lunch! The ambiance was great! Carlos provided fantastic service! I will definitely be returning!

El Fenix is always a great experience and love coming here. Been a staples since I was a child in Oak Cliff!
This location is always good. I cannot recommend it enough even though they do occasionally have a little bit of a lacking service they do really well. Food is always on point hot and fresh. There is plenty of parking though it can be hard to get to the location due to its location on the access road near no major intersection crossing. Handicap parking and accessible access is available. Plenty of seats and benches both. Staff is almost always friendly and smiling. The food is always good and fresh.
Grabbed a chips and salsa, the young man at the register couldn't figure out the change when I gave him $20.15 and the bill was $15.13. Love the chips and salsa though.
Food is great. Tres leches cake could have been better, it is placed in a freezer which made it harder.
I have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and yesterday was the worst food I have ever gotten from them. We ordered sour cream chicken enchiladas and we got cheese enchiladas with chicken thrown on top. My husband ordered double beans with his and got no beans just rice. The food was cold so the cheese not melted. The beans were bland. It was like the kitchen staff just didn't care what they sent out.
Good Tex-mex. Casual sit down and order type of place. I have been here a few times and the food quality and service has been pretty consistent High points 1. Salsa is delicious 2. Portion sizes are good, value for money 3. Tasty flavors. Items marked as their specials are usually safe choices
We had a celebratory lunch today. Our server, Mary, and the manager, Steffany Reyes, provided quick, attentive and excellent service! Chips, salsa and drink refills were served without having to wait or ask for and the entres were very good! This is a great place for a small gathering or a large celebration!
The salsa and chips were really good. I ordered a new menu item which was the shrimp enchiladas with green sauce. I've never had shrimp enchiladas before and they were excellent. The shrimp was seasoned nicely and had the right proportions of meat, cheese, and sauce. Will definitely go back and try new things. Portions were generous and price was very reasonable appx $12-20 a plate depending on how "fancy" you want to get.
Good Tex Mex food, no skimp on the tequila in the margaritas, fast, friendly, and courteous service. The tables are a bit dated but we aren't super picky about that kind of thing. They've been in business many years, and based on our overall experience it's clear why. We enjoyed El Fenix and will return.
This was a convenient location for us and first time. The food was good and they provided generous helping. My parents each ordered a fajita plate (one asada and the other chicken). The meat was tender and soft. The beans and rice were adequate. I had beef enchiladas, a tamale, and a taco. It was more food than I could eat but I liked the enchiladas and the tamale. The tortillas were not as tostada for my liking. Our server was very attentive to our needs.
🌮 El Fenix – 4 Stars (Almost 3) 🌶️ The food? Solid. Classic Tex-Mex done right — flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. Definitely earns a thumbs up on taste alone. But the service? That’s where things got strange. After the lunch rush, our server basically vanished. Not rude, just gone. No check-ins, no drink refills, no follow-up. It wasn’t even busy, which made it feel even weirder. Bottom line: Come for the food, manage your expectations on service. Still worth it if you’re craving that El Fenix flavor, but don’t expect to be doted on. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — One taco short of greatness.
Sat at the bar while my car was serviced next door, around d 2:30p. So, off hours. Ordered the 1918 ElJefe Margarita and a loaded Queso. El Jefe was well made with plenty of tequila and a signature Anejo forward flavor. Simple bar setup with limited tequila variety. But, still the standard selection of quality choices. Chips were warm and crispy with a flour forward taste I have not had before. Refill was most crumbs. Just trash those, nobody wants fragments. Salsa was very mild and finely minced. A little on the thin side. Basic yellow queso. Picadillo beef had a nice bite. Guacamole was a good creamy accompaniment. Service was good with the waiter checking on me regularly, even at the bar alone in an off hour. Plenty of accessible access points and parking.
We were looking for authentic Mexican food, but came across this Tex-Mex restaurant instead. The food was delicious. When we arrived we did wait a little bit until a waiter showed up. But they were very attentive and the food was served fast too. The food could be Tex-Mex but it had a lot flavor.
Pretty enjoyable meal. I had enchiladas with a puffy taco, father had chicken fajitas, and mother had chicken street tacos. Everyone was pleased with the temperature, quality and taste of the food. The waitress was nice, however towards the end of the meal she dropped the bill off and never returned to check on us. I would recommend this place as a quick informal place to get some moderately priced food.
Food was delicious. Service was excellent. The atmosphere was easy to have conversations with good friends.

After waiting over 5 minutes at the host stand without seeing a single employee we walked over to the tables for a waitress to tell us to seat ourselves. We waited even longer to finally be given menus and have our drink order taken. Once the food arrived it was mediocre and bland. We then had to go find our waitress just to be given our check. Not sure if they were just short staffed or what, but the food wasn't even worth it. Not sure how they are "world famous", this was our first time and we definitely won't be back.
I'm not sure who the big brain person in the kitchen was today, but when someone orders queso and carne sauce on the burrito, what is the off beat thought process that could possibly make someone think they mean half and half, instead of covering the whole burrito with both? How did we get here? And what is up with this bean portion on the side? Are we approaching some kind of bean famine?
Very disappointed in the El Fenix in McKinney. The Fajita beef my wife, her sister and brother in law had had was extremely tough and had a small amount of gristle in it. It appeared to be sliced in the wrong direction, at least from what I have learned about grilling, and no, i am definitely not an expert. The puffed taco shell I had was harder than the tortilla chips and the sour cream and chili con carne enchiladas were very par. Their chips and salsa were delicious and I can see why they have them to buy and take home at the register. Very disappointed and will not return to this location until it is corrected. I have eaten at their location in Dallas and it was superior and is on our top five Mexican restaurants to eat at.
We came in Yesterday for a late lunch or Early dinner, it was about 3:30. The service was terribly slow. It took almost 15 minutes to get our first drink order and then our drinks would always be empty for a while before they would come back to offer a refill. I have eaten at a few EL Fenix Locations and this one did not make it up to the same standards as the other one. The whole place smelled of smoke as if something was burning. I have ordered fajitas everywhere I go and they just missed the mark. I think the skillet was too hot because it was burning the food to a char and causing and acrid smoke that filled the air. I had trouble breathing it was as bad as cigarette smoke. Just not the best experience here.
We did a DoorDash order for the Fajita Family meal and some more queso. The fajitas were good, but the queso… what in the world was that? Time to go back in the kitchen and make REAL Mexican queso. They use like cream of mushroom or something that give it the consistency of jello. It was absolutely disgusting…. Fix that, and you have yourself a good meal. Until then, probably won’t return.
Pretty middle of the road food, no spices and no heat. I don't expect burn down the house ghost-pepper heat but we're talking zero heat. They do have an extensive menu. I went between lunch and dinne…

Granted the food was good the service turned sour . We had watched as everyone who finished eating was told that “you’ll just pay upfront, thank you” , and in regards we got the same thing said to us , but it was 5 minutes later that in passing our waiter heard me get exciting for a instacart order , not 60 seconds after that he requested payment at the table . My only concern is being profiled when going out to an establishment to spend my hard earned money on food, even that to be seen as someone that would dine and dash . I don’t not and will not bring my business to any location that does this and this WILL be the last time me and my family enter an El Fenix . Truly hope this finds the right person in management
food is mediocre. there are much better alternatives in terms of food quality. service is either great or horrible. More often than not horrible. The salsa hasn't changed in 50 years and it's too salty. this chain used to be packed every Wednesday because of their enchilada dinner special. now the restaurant is almost empty on Wednesdays. How can service be so bad when the restaurant is almost empty? La hacienda ranch is a far better choice. on a positive note, the cheese they use is very tasty.
Stopped here for lunch. Ive eaten at El Fenix for near 62 years. There used to bd a crowd at this particular location almost every day. Times have dramatically changed Its El Fenix in name only The food bares little resemblance to what it used to be. Service was ok today even though someone had to go tell the waitress she had a customer after I had been sitting for 5 minutes. Salsa water a watery version of tomatoes with onions that made the flavor tasted very old. Guacamole was not up to standard also watery. Cheese Enchiladas (The trademark dish) were unrecognizable to the El Fenix of the past. The chili con carne was too salty and it used to contain tender chunks of beef, this version contain something that may or may not have been ground beef. You used to walk in and immediately be hit with aroma of a Mexican kitchen with tortillas and enchiladas permeating the restaurant . I think those days ate gone. There are obviously a large number of Mexican or Tex Mex restaurants in the Dallas area my advice is find one other than this chain. You might have to drive down to Dallas or Ft Worth for a good plate of enchiladas. I miss the real El Fenix.
I have not eaten at El fenix in a year or so. Wow. What an embarrassment to a mexican food institution. I have been eating at El Fenix since i was a kid and it breaks my heart to see this very tired place. They have changed out their old chips with some stale version. The picante sause seemed like it came straight from the supermarket bottle. My echiladas were microwaved! Not sure how this place can stay in business with such great mexican food within miles of this place (mi Cocina). I really hope El Fenix can bring itself back to its original glory, but im not optimistic.
Food was bland, tortilla chips cold, seemed store bought and sauce had no spice or flavor, same with food. Service was fast but waiter filled unsweetened tea but never once asked or filled my sweet tea.
Food wasn’t all that great as I remember it being a while ago. Although the fajita beef was seasoned (chicken was bland), both quesadillas were dry. The queso tasted like cheap cheese and the ground beef we added wasn’t very tasty either. The free salsa was good! Our server (a much older Hispanic man) stood over me as I was putting my card away to say “no tip?” since I had $0 on the tip line. Not knowing that I had cash and was going to tip with that instead. I told him “no, not on my card, I had cash but not anymore” just because of that. How rude and entitled. 😐 The service alone was prompt but I won’t be returning.

This place is terribly managed. Food is literal slop. Don't waste your time and money. Service is poor. Food and dirt all over the floors. I guess sweeping is hard. Everything took forever. Had to …
I'll start by saying the service was very friendly and attentive. The food however was awful. Nothing we ordered was good. To start the salsa was terrible, it had no flavor, no spice, and pretty much just tasted like watery tomatoes. The queso dip was oily and bland and tasted worse than cheap gas station cheese sauce. The fish tacos were flavorless and overcooked. The El jefe platter was also flavorless. The ground beef just tasted like salt and was soggy. The beans were dry and flavorless. The kids meals were equally basic and flavorless. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but this was just too bad.
Our visit to El Fenix this evening was one of the poorest dining experiences ever. We were sat at a table that was not ready. It was missing silverware and it was barely wiped down. It only continued from there. Throughout our waiting we never received refills even though we requested them, our daughter's meal was brought to the table 15 minutes before my wife received her meal and about 20 minutes before I got my meal. We were all served at different times and my order and my daughter's order were also wrong to top it off. We were almost here 2 hours and out of that time we only spent about 20 minutes having dinner, the rest of the time we were waiting for our waiter to reappear. I also noticed that the waiter didn't listen and took part of my order to the wrong table, returned it to the kitchen and when he figured it out re-served it to me. When our food was brought out our waiter attempted to collect our appetizer plates and our daughter's plate since she was served so early, however he failed to take them. We instead sat next to the tray with our dirty dishes. The only positive note was the manager on duty acknowledging and apologizing for the experience we had. Unfortunately, based on my experience we will not be returning.
**Rating: ★☆☆☆☆** I visited El Finix in McKinney on the evening of July 29, 2025, and I was extremely disappointed. I ordered the beef enchiladas, and they were simply horrible. The taste was off, and the rice had an unpleasant smell that made it inedible. It’s clear that this restaurant has fallen into a terrible decline. To make matters worse, the service was bad, adding to the overall negative experience. I won’t be returning anytime soon.
We arrived out at 8:30 on Saturday evening. We waited for someone to seat us, we heard people talking but no one was paying attention to the 2 sets of couples that had come in to eat. Once we were finally seated we were given a floor show with employees yelling back and forth to each other then in case we weren't able to hear them they came and stood behind out booth! I now see why the place was empty. If there is a manager on duty they should be ashamed of this but I think the manager that was on duty was standing near our booth speaking loudly! Will not be back!
We called ahead for a group of 11 and they quoted 20 to 25 min, we arrived and the place was dead, hardly any tables sat at all. The floors were sticky and so was the table and some of the app plates were dirty. It took a very long time to get our drinks, once we did were all so hungry and thirsty we finished everything very fast and all had empty glasses. When they finally brought out the tortillas and and butter and more chips 15 min later we didn't get drink refills, when they finally brought refills 30 mins later one person didn't get theirs, and then the rude waitress finally came back to take our order she was coming up to the table and said "ok give me your orders" and when asked for another refill because we were empty again, she said "give me a minute" in a rude tone. The food took another 45 minutes mine had beans that were burned and old and the burrito had no sauce and it had to be sent back, my aunt wanted to send hers back as well, but was afraid to wait that long for ut to come back out again. When my food finally came out correctly it was quite good but was a nightmare to get there. On the way out a couple told us they were quoted 30 min for their wait and it had been more than 45 min.
It’s hard to make me angry, I hate to leave a negative review on any business, and only do if it’s truly warranted. Worst service I have ever received at a restaurant ever tonight. Joshua needs to be re-trained or fired, completely inattentive (15 min to get drinks and chips) and got every order wrong for a table of 4. And then was a jerk about it. Have been going to El Fenix for 30+ years, never had a bad experience until tonight. Naomi, a manager, stepped in and was kind.
Arrived in time for the lunch price & even asked the server who confirmed prices for lunch. Check came & we weren’t given the lunch price . It too @ least 25 mins to get it changed . Seems they had to finish their meals & their singing in the back to take care of our issue. They Tried to say the computer couldn’t do that price. after much discussion we were given a discount. The service was awful & the manager sent to resolve our issue took her time to handle the situation & didn’t really want to make it right at first. Won’t be back & certainly not the standard this restaurant use to have .
UPDATE: After following up with the email that the owner provided, I have received no response and it’s been 9 days. This comes across like a false offer to “make things right.” I’m disappointed and will not return. ——————— I visited El Fénix on Veterans Day after confirming online that discounts or free meals were being offered to veterans. Before ordering, I double checked with our server, who assured me yes, they were participating. From there, the service went downhill. Our loaded queso arrived missing half the toppings, and by the time we received the guac and sour cream, the queso was cold. The chips were mostly broken, and our table sat unattended long enough for our drinks to stay empty, despite the restaurant not being busy. When the check arrived, there was no discount applied. The veteran I’d brought had to flag down a manager, only to be told that no specials were available. I explained that our server had confirmed otherwise, but the manager simply said she couldn’t “do anything on the computer.” That response was unacceptable. Restaurants absolutely can comp or adjust meals—especially to honor a commitment made by their own staff. Comping a single entrée wouldn’t have cost El Fénix much, but it would have prevented the embarrassment of watching a veteran be dismissed after we’d been misinformed. We won’t be returning, and I’ll be sure to share this disappointing experience with others.
I've been coming to El Fenix my entire life (over 60 years) today, 5/7/25 will be my last time. Something has changed with the once famous Hot Sauce, it is watered down to the point it has no taste and onion flakes are used now vs fresh onions, it was like eating canned tomatoes on an overly salty tortilla chip. It dripped when you tried to eat it that's how watered down it was void of any taste and very few tomatos. The Beef Enchiladas arrived with watered down greasy pulled pork chili on top which gave them an odd taste too. The entire meal was horrible and the poor quality of their once famous menu items will certainly bring El Fenix down to eventually ruin.
