Surprisingly, Sonora grill had the best cocktails in Mexico City that we tried. We stopped on our way back to our hotel to have some cocktails. We enjoyed it so much, we went back the next day to have lunch. Cocktails are not too sweet. Deliciously made and food was fantastic. Can't really go wrong with meat. I was hoping to find one closer to Baja California but unfortunately no, not available. You can sit outside for drinks or food and there's an upstairs for dining. Service from Oscar was fantastic. Most Stephanie will go back.
Lovely restaurant with delicious food! Ambiance is excellent with open window indoor/outdoor seating. All the dishes I ordered were tasty and fresh! Highly recommend the steak tacos and beet and feta appetizer. Service was amazing with friendly staff. Javier took care of me and went out of his way to provide a wonderful meal! English menus provided which was appreciated. Everything priced very reasonably. The free ice cream at the end was a nice touch! Highly recommend this place! 10/10
We went for a birthday celebration and everything was fantastic from the bone marrow on top of beef carpaccio to the rib eye dominico. Thick cut on a hot stone and the drink always looked after. It shows that all the staff care about the customer
We just came here the first night we arrived at our Hotel and didn’t wanna go out after a very long flight. Surprisingly it exceeded our expectations! The brisket Tacos were very very delicious! The staff were also incredibly welcoming and efficient. Would definitely come back to try their other items on the menu.
Alan was our server and he was fast and efficient. He was able to recommend some great dishes. The margaritas were delicious and I got to sample the mango margaritas too. Thank you Alan for a lovely experience. Sonora Grill is in the Barcelo Hotel.
If you're looking for a fantastic steak house, this is it. Every cut of meat, the lengua, and tuétano were fantastic. The wine was pretty dam good also.
Amazing dinner, great atmosphere and exquisite service! We were a group of 7 people,we were all very satisfied!Totally recommend 🫶
Joel was amazing! Very attentive and pleasant. The food was delicious. I recommend this restaurant. I came here to celebrate my birthday and had a great time.
This was an excellent dining experience! The staff was attentive and friendly. There was English menus and staff spoke some English. We ordered way too much food! Tacos were good but nothing special. I ordered a gin and tonic which came with strawberries. It was also 2 for 1 so near the end of my meal a waiter brought out another cocktail. It was a pleasant surprise. I would recommend this place for a nice dinner out!
My first visit here was incredible! Alan and his co-worker provided outstanding service and made our dinner feel special. The steak was perfectly cooked soft and buttery and the shrimp with queso fundido was absolutely fire. My daughter and I had a fantastic evening. Highly recommended!. I will be visiting again very soon.
Alberto was awesome for birthday dinner. He was very attentive to our table and made our night very special. I would love to come back to see him.
The food is AMAZING! The staff is very fast and attentive. Ate there three days in a row because of how good the food is.
My server was awesome Luis Rico was our server and he was the best we had through out our trip
Amazing food, amazing staff. Will definitely become a regular. Tony's service was amazing! Definitely recommend dining here.
Sonora Grill is at the Barcelo Mexico Hotel is owned by the same company as Prime Steak Club at the Sheraton. They have great music, environment, service and food. It’s a bit pricey but that what you can expect from a great steakhouse house like this. Well worth it and definitely recommend.
Very good food and atmosphere 10/10 highly recommend!!
The fried octopus is absolutely delightful. The rib eye steak, while well-prepared, could benefit from a richer and more oily flavor. The skirt steak is seasoned perfectly. The Pinada, however, has a slightly bitter aftertaste that is not appealing to me. Service at the restaurant is good, though there is room for improvement in terms of speed.
This place is amazing. For a chain restaurant they go all out for you You get free tortilla chips with a refried bean dip that is piping hot The beef broth is amazing. Try it And the best part…we didn’t order dessert because we were full but they brought an ice cream anyway. Amazing Can’t recommend this place enough
What a nice restaurant! Great space, great service. We had Brisket para taquear, papa gratinada and the chocolate fondue for dessert. The brisket was AMAZING. Never quite had brisket served this way. They brought out a huge chunk of brisket, probably 2nd cut (guess, it was quite fatty (in the best of ways)). The maitre d came over and with great fanfare and a pair of what I can only call claws, shredded it right in front of us. We ate every last bit of it and would have licked out plates too, were we in private! All in all a most excellent meal and probably the best brisket I ever had. and I've had some good brisket.
You can never go wrong when you’re at Sonora. Food was fantastic. Joel was an amazing waiter - knowledgable about the food and also gave us info on where to go shopping. Can’t wait to come back!
Francisco is really nice, providing very good service.
The food was above par, but not the best I've had. I'm a little picky when it comes to my carne asada tacos. I feel like the flavor of the meat was masked a bit too much by the beans in the taco, but overall, it was still a great taco. The dip was pretty good as well. What makes this place great is the atmosphere and service. Very attentive staff, and the vibe is awesome. Plenty of club style music is constantly playing, and the lighting makes a meal here an experience. It closes generally late, which is also a plus.
If you are ever in city of Mexico you need to try this place. Such a wonderful place to dine inn from the begging we got greater and say to our table our waiter Francisco and Jose Louise was excellent very attractive to out needs. And Oscar was excellent on making sure everything went well . I highly recommend this place.
Great food, excellent service and nice outlook to the Reforma. I had the Roasted Picanha which they deconstruct at the table, it was falling apart and they add onion and green habanero to your liking. We also ordered Sautéed mushrooms, Corn, Cauliflower and Cream Spinach as my wife is vegetarian and she loved them all.
The roasted cauliflower with pumpkin seed sauce base and drizzle with cheese sauce + truffle oil was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten! Service was also superb.
Amazing place Amazing vibe Amazing food Amazing service. Aguachile de camaron Cauliflor Queso
Went for dinner with my husband after a day tour to the pyramids; thought they might have issues with our "sporty" attire, but they didn't mind and were super accommodating. Food and drinks were delicious, service was top notch and they had great music. We were so stuffed at the end that we couldn't think about getting dessert, but they treated us with complimentary sorbet cones. Will definitely go back.
Sonora Grill served us a great dining experience. The cocktails were creative and tasted great, the ribeye steak was juicy and cooked just right, one of the best I've had in a long time. They also had a good variety of sauces, with different levels of hotness. The staff were very friendly and attentive. And at the end they offered complimentary ice cream. I definitely recommend this place.
Pleasantly surprised. It was a Grill so being vegetarian we were apprehensive about trying this restaurant. We were staying at Barcelo so decided to try it. Great service - quick, efficient and they spoke English! We had vegan burger and salad for our mains. The tangerine salad was outstanding - incredible combination of flavours. I eat a lot of salad while travelling globally so I do not say this lightly - it was one of the best salads I have ever had! Veggie burger was good too. The restaurant sent truffle fries as complementary although I had ordered that separately - this was a nice gesture. I had a bottle of the local white wine and a tequila cocktail inside the head of a Mayan artefact shape which was cool. Highly recommend a visit. The vibe and ambience are also quite great. The restaurant was fully packed despite it being a Monday evening!
Francisco is the best! Everyone is very attentive. Great food and amazing service! Celebrated my brother’s birthday.
I cannot speak more highly of this place! It was an oasis of great drinks (gracias al mixologo estrella Jerry), and amazing service ( gracias Joel and Ricardo). The food was reall3t good, but the atmosphete, and the service made our night ( we had to repeat and go two nights in a row). Gracias and until the next time!
I want to start off with mentioning how amazing the service is here. Our server who took care of us was Hugo and he treated us so well. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was relaxing yet still attentive. 10/10 would recommend!
Sonora Grill in Mexico City delivered an amazing dining experience from start to finish. We started with the queso norteño and frijoles con veneno, both full of flavor and perfect to share. The picaña was cooked to perfection — juicy, tender, and seasoned just right. To drink, we enjoyed refreshing Jamaica mezcal and a nice red wine that paired beautifully with the meal. I finished with an espresso martini that was the perfect touch to end the night. The service was impeccable the entire time: attentive, professional, and very friendly. Definitely a place I would come back to and highly recommend.
Amazing service, cocktails and food! We had 4 different kinds of cocktails and they were all very different but so good! Definitely will be coming back again Martin was the name of our waiter and he was super kind and attentive. Definitely wish I would've found this place sooner! Would definitely recommend
We ordered the New York steak, Aztec soup, truffle fries, cream spinach, a hornet margarita, a brumo agave and a guava cheesecake. The food was incredible, the drinks were amazing, the music and the energy were unlike anything we had experienced in a restaurant. The thing that most stood out was the service. We were served by Eric Torres, Alexis and Benjamin. The energy, the efficiency and the hospitality of these caballeros was a different level. Best dining experience so far. You guys have perfect the art of hosting and serving. Would have given this six stars but only five were available.
We had a great experience celebrating our anniversary dinner at Sonora Grill. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was perfect for a special occasion, and the service truly stood out. A big thank you to Gabriel for making us feel so welcome and taken care of—his attention, professionalism, and kindness made the night even more memorable. We’ll definitely be back!
Food was awesome, ambiance terrific (the music a bit too loud for my taste, but fin nonetheless). Our server Alberto made everything even better! Friendly, fast, attentive, and he spoke English on top of it. Ask for him!
I have never been in a place where the service was excellent! Thank you Joen. Thank you for your smile, attention and recommendations. Great host! I would recommend everyone to try Brisket Tacos. I will definitely come back again.
We had the best experience at Sonora Grill! I don't have anything bad to say. The ambiance was great, the service was great and the food was excellent. Sergio was awesome and everyone else that helped out with our table. And to add to the experience we came on a Monday when the drinks were 2 for 1
We had an amazing time at Sonora Grill thanks to Joel. His service was outstanding—very attentive, knowledgeable, and welcoming. He truly made us feel taken care of. Highly recommend asking for him!
Great steakhouse! Amazing views and immaculate vibes. They were accommodating for our party of 10 with 4 young kids too!
The restaurant and service is 10/10. I think our mistake was ordering things that weren’t steak. Expensive boring tacos that were nothing special. The pichana was more like shredded beef.. one of the queso dishes was left untouched. We did get a steak that was really good. They come with a grill and turn on a fire so that was entertaining.. complementary drinks and bean and cheese appetizers that were decent and we appreciate it
Really nice place to go to if you are in Mexico City. We made reservations and was seated immediately. The service was amazing I never had a empty cup and they would remove dirty plates as you finished them. The selection is huge to choose from. We tried octopus which was amazing. I thought the brisket we ordered lacked flavor but maybe it’s because I’m from Texas. Overall I would go again if in Mexico City.
We had dinner twice and cocktail in the afternoon once. The food was great. The first night was an off night for the front of the house. We had an issue with a standard cocktail (Perfect Manhattan), we were told it wasn't available but come to find out they didn't know how to make it. Oh, but when a female server showed up with the cocktail trolly, she did an amazing job. The service was way to fast for this type of restaurant. A different person (5) kept returning wanting to take our order. Finally, I had to ask for the manager to let him know. They had an issue with the lights, someone kept turning them up and down. The second night was much better. We were there to meet friends for dinner. The night started out much like the first night but one of our friends was able to let them know. We were in no hurry. He also explained to me that giving fast service was their way of giving good service. No. The same female server made our drinks, amazing. The Caesar Salad was very good. We order two dry-aged NY Strips, Asparagus, and Au Gratin Potatoes. All were very good. Nice wine selection as well.
We got scammed badly! Husband and I went for dinner, look at the menu, husband ordered the ribeye stake for about $1500 pesos which is like $90 USD, then a cook stop by with a board with all the stake cuts, he shows husband the difference between stakes and sides, husband happy order the stake he pointed from the menu, we also order an appetizer, a side dish, and a couple of glass of wine, then we had dessert. When got bill the stake was for like $3600 pesos or a bit over $200 USD, the total bill was $300 USD. We were in shock. Paying bill happened so fast I didn’t even get copy of receipt. The total with tip was $350 USD. We were staying in the hotel, we were told at front desk hotel guests gets 15% off in the hotel’s restaurant, then server told us “Sonora is not part of the hotel”. Food was good, ambience was good, but the scam was very bad. Fortunately we can afford paying expensive meals, but the experience of getting scam during vacation was unpleasant. That night we went back to the room and laughed, we travel all over the world and we know how to prevent scams, Sonora Grill is very sneaky, they really outsmarted us. We tried to not let the bad experience ruined the moment so we let it go. I’m back home in Hawaii, and recalling the experience makes me come over and give a heads up to tourists. Make sure this doesn’t happen to you.
Overall a bit disappointed. Steak was pretty good, but nothing amazing for the price. Aguachile wasn't spicy or particularly flavorful, and the truffled potatoes were outright bad. Service was good. But for the price point, I had higher expectations. Wouldn't choose to come here again.
Service and staff are excellent. The big problem is atmosphere. They blast this thump thump thump dance music at 86 dB - I measured it - throughout the restaurant, and the staff aren't allowed to turn it down. This is restaurant in a hotel with families, not a dance club for teenagers; in fact, the average age of people in the restaurant was in the 50s. For reference, 86 dB is about as loud as a blender, garbage disposal, or hairdryer. My wife and I couldn't communicate without speaking directly into each other's ear. I wish we'd eaten at the hotel restaurant in the basement. The food is good but the flavors aren't particularly interesting.
All of our food was cold especially the fries, like not even a little warm. The staff was great at trying to make up for it but we just wanted to leave. It was disappointing
Been there before and food was much better. It was sad to see my plate looking so sad even if I sent it back once (wrong type of tortilla and cold). Will never order tacos ever again in this place, it was tortilla, meat and not even a single piece of onion or cilantro! Del servicio no hay ninguna queja, al contrario, excelentes meseros :)
Basic. I almost never write reviews but I had to put my two cents in here. Location is great but the ambiance/theme is not cohesive. You have American pop music videos screaming on big screens in what is a gorgeously designed restaurant. To me it's unnerving watching/listening to Jonas Brothers or the soundtrack of 10 things I hate about you while trying to enjoy the warm ambiance and conversation that was surrounding me. We ordered the Sopas de Lentejas and Jugo de Carne to start. The first's flavors were good enough but there were rock hard pieces of pork that I dreaded having to put in mouth. The Jugo de Carne was simply beef bone broth- tasted like it came from a box. Chilies, onions and cilantro were in small bowls on the side. This could have been a dish a 3 year old created. We followed up with an appetizer of medium rare ribeye sliced in a sauce of what seemed to be soysauce/ worcheshire. It was pretty disgusting, the sauce overpowering the meat. My partner's ribeye tacos smothered in provolone were mid tier. At that point we decided to go explore a different restaurant instead of ordering the more expensive dishes on the menu. I don't know how this restaurant is rated so highly, maybe they have a killer marketing team?. Honestly this was one of the worst meals I've had in Mexico City.
