Barrio is a great spot for a casual hangout, with a nice patio right in the bustle of downtown Minneapolis. It’s perfect for drinks and appetizers. The tortilla chips with the variety of salsas were flavorful and fresh, and the yuca was absolutely delicious. I also loved the ahi tuna taco. Overall, it’s a lively, energetic place—highly recommended if you’re looking to enjoy good food and great vibes in the heart of the city.
Barrio was an excellent experience, and I would recommend trying this restaurant. We started off with some margaritas. They were very delicious, and they had a large variety of flavors. We then moved into the appetizer of their chips and signature salsas. I enjoyed trying various salsa types and spice levels. We also ordered the queso fundido with chorizo. The chorizo was delicious and added great flavor. Lastly, we split a pork carnitas burrito. It was full of fresh ingredients.
Barrio is an absolute gem. The burrito was packed with flavor, the margaritas were on point, and the elote was some of the best I’ve had. Even the tortilla chips and salsa stood out and tasted fresh. On top of that, the service was excellent, making the whole experience even better. This is definitely a spot worth coming back to.
Had an awesome experience! I ordered the carnitas tacos, steak taco, and elote and birthing was delicious! I couldn’t help myself but get a second carnitas taco! The carnitas were flavorful, the steak was spot on, and the elote…oh my goodness! Hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. My server, Taylor was amazing as well! He was super friendly, chill, funny, and truly on top of it all while juggling multiple outdoor tables. He truly made the experience even better. Definitely a 10/10 spot and I’ll definitely be back (hopefully have Taylor as my waiter again!) keep up the great work!
Thankful to have this place serving good food open late down the street from the convention center. great service, fresh and well balanced plates and food that comes out at a decent speed.
I unfortunately didn't get pictures of the tacos I had before devouring them but the food and atmosphere were both great, and the staff were all very helpful and accommodating. It is unfortunate how much of the seating inside is upstairs but there is downstairs accessible seating both inside and outside if the weather permits. The food was very delightful. The server also had great suggestions for us that everyone loved.
In short: great place for food and drinks, not a lot options for vegetarians but what they do have is great and worth coming for! In length for the details' lovers: The place has two floors, verity of sitting options from bar, high and low tables. I went there twice during a conference, and took the wild mushroom taco. It is so good! I also had a chance to try their mocktails which were great. The margarita version and something with hibiscus that was really good. It's also worth mentioning the service, where it really feels like everybody enjoy working there, and they want you to enjoy as well! An important note - if you are coming on a Saturday evening (or maybe during the weekend in general) it's better to have a reservation just in case there are multiple events in town. It's a really great place, I really hope I could come back!
Great cozy restaurant. Enjoyed our visit with friends. We were lucky to find a table without reservation. The food was delicious and so was the atmosphere. Our server had a great sense of humor. The tacos were tasty and the fried yuca even better. The desserts were gone in seconds. I strongly recommend this place.
We had a fantastic time tonight. We sat at the bar and received amazing service and had the best seafood tacos. You must try the Ahi Tuna taco. It was easily the best taco I’ve ever had. The seared tuna was cooked perfectly and the avocado salsa complimented it perfectly. We’re not from here, but we’ve already made plans to come here specifically in a couple of months
Barrio is a great tapas style spot in downtown Minneapolis! I'd recommend a reservation to go here, especially on the weekend, as it is a smaller restaurant. The atmosphere is very funky and more modern, and there's no shortage of interesting things to look at here. Barrio has an extensive tequila list, and they offer tequila flights as well. Our server was very kind and knowledgeable about the tequila, and the food was delicious! Everything from chips and guacamole to tacos to rice was on point! Definitely consider checking this restaurant out!
I have to say that this was a very enjoyable experience! Not only were they able to accommodate a last minute reservation with a group of 6 of us, but the service and food was outstanding. Their quick turnaround to ensure we got back to our conference was stellar. I have to give kudos to both Tony (host) and Lucas (waiter). They made us feel welcome as visitors to Minneapolis and that all of our needs were met. Great work, Barrio!
Loved it. Great vibe great food and excellent tequila flights
Truly enjoyed our dinner! We had guacomole and salsa and chips for apps; steak and pork belly tacos and chicken burrito with elote and black beans sides for dinner. Margaritas were yummy! Dinners came out as they were ready which we do not normally like; however, there was not enough room on small table for multiple dishes. They forgot to put in our burrito and elote order, so there was quite a delay for that. We enjoyed our dining experience tremendously! They were extremely busy but still gave excellent service. The tacos were one of the best we ever had!
I really like the vibe of this place. Had a flight of tequila, all had really distinct flavors. Food came out in tapas portions. Pork carnitas are the best I've had since my trip to Barcelona.
Stopped in while at a conference for a snack and something cool to drink on a hot day. YUM!!!! Great food great service. Queso with chorizo was perfect and wr got the chips and the pita.
Love the cocktails, the chips and guac is great. The Pink Elephant was delicious. I liked the veggie burrito! Super nice to eat outside, tons of patio seating.
Very cool tequila and taco bar. Ordered two tacos and a tostada. The food was excellent, the black diamond margarita was so good I had to have a second. We sat at the bar and our bartender was hilarious as he made drinks and taught us about all of the 70+ tequilas they serve. Highly recommended.
I had a chance to experience this restaurant that was highly recommended by a local while I was visiting from FL. From walking in, being seated, the staff was amazing. The tacos were a highlight of my day. They were filling but you could tell the ingredients were fresh. Everything was PERFECT! Great experience 😀
I got the steak burrito and it was delicious! Perfect meal for lunch. I will be returning here! It was super packed, so it’s a popular place for a Saturday lunch!
Great tacos and our server super awesome. Really great place for dinner or a beer.
The tacos are delicious. I usually get the special that includes a couple tacos and chips, salsa, and guacamole. They have a mix of salsas if you like it hot or not. Good cocktails and a couple mocktails.
A tequila bar in Minnesota don't ya know lol. Extensive flight menu allows you to try more expensive tastes foe a reasonable price. The food was delicious it was just missing that true Mexican seasoning
I went here to eat last night with a couple of friends. It was sort of empty when we first came in but by the time we got our food, the place was packed. I ordered their hibiscus mocktail and a quinoa bowl. Both were delicious! They also sell small tacos here, but if you order the taco, get 2 or 3 of them at a time for satiety. The service could be better but it was alright considering how busy they were. I wish our server would have checked in on us to refill our drinks.
Randomly picked while visiting downtown, and it was a good choice. They have great happy hour deals, and the tacos were delicious! The plates are small but great for sharing.
really nice place to stay and have some good Mexican food. Staff was really friendly and kind, was a pleasure to be here. good food, nice spicy dishes, I really recommend this restaurant.
Great late night eatery. My husband and I stopped here after a comedy show to get something in our bellies, and we were not disappointed. Drinks were refreshing, I had the baby cita mocktail. We shared the chips & signature salsas and queso. Loved the crispiness of the chips. He had the sandwich cubano while I had the chicken tamal (delicious!!!) and the grilled steak taco. Wasn't a fan of how the taco was presented, it looked very sloppy, but tasted great. All the food was flavorful and tasty! Would recommend. :)
I made this a must visit again! The seating can be indoor or outdoor or in between! I love that they have open concept. From the skyscrapers to the decor - The view outside is beautiful. The waitress made some key recommendations on drinks appetizers and entree. The pictures speak for themselves.
Thank you so much Barrio for having me. We had Taylor as our server and he was absolutely amazing. His attitude, his personality, his enthusiasm and energy. He was flawless and I wouldn’t want anyone else to welcome me to Minneapolis. Such an authentic person, I’m not used to getting real recommendations and great service. Will be back.
Fun impromptu stop on Twin Cities Marathon weekend. We appreciate their ability to accommodate our group of 9 on the patio. Great food and drinks! Our server Allie did a nice job-attentive but not overly so.
Stopped to have a drink and appetizer while visiting. Ordered espresso martinis and unbeknownst to us had tequila… we tried to love it… our server was very cool and chill. He brought us different drinks and they were awesome. The service was so personable and Taylor had an incredibly infectious personality! Definitely a cool vibe with great music.
I went to Barrio for the first time after a Viking’s Pregame and had Megan as my large groups server. She was very respectful, attentive, knowledgeable when it came to the menu and gave excellent recommendations. Overall, a great server and when I return she is the type of server I would request again.
Giving the place a try for dinner. Margarita and red sangria were delicious. The guacamole and chips were great! We also enjoyed the mahi mahi and pork carnitas tacos with a side of black beans.
Have been here at Barrio's at MN/STP airport several times. Excellent egg Benedict! Tsiyon was our server..excellent, customer oriented, friendly/smiles .
The menu is amazing and everything we got was SO good! The waitress was slow and a bit rude about closing time. Even though we got there an hour before closing time. Maybe she was just having a bad day. Either way, it took foreverrrr for her to bring us our drinks and she was short the whole time. The atmosphere was perfect! We sat outside but the inside looked super cute.
Barrio is always a nice spot for a drink and some tacos. They offer all of their tacos al a cart so you can order as many as you would like. We tried the pork belly taco, shrimp taco, gringo taco and the fish taco. We enjoyed all of them except the fish taco was a little on the fishy side unfortunately. The ceviche was excellent though, super fresh and full of bright flavors. They have a nice selection of cocktails as well as beer and wine. Definitely worth a stop!
I love the atmosphere! It’s super copy, and there are two levels. However, I wasn’t a huge fan of the food. Everything was a hit or miss. The mocktail drinks and the Mahi Mahi taco were amazing and absolutely phenomenal. The achiote chicken and black bean tostada, as well as the ceviche, were both not my favorites. The tostado had soooo much lettuce and very little meat, the only thing I could taste was the lettuce and the shell. The ceviche had a bunch of fruit, making it super sweet. I typically prefer a more tart ceviche with no fruit just vegetables and seafood. Overall, the atmosphere is great for happy hour and grabbing small bites and a drink.
Found this place when looking for an outdoor spot for an afternoon cocktail. Wonderful patio for afternoon chilling. I enjoyed the spicy margarita and nibbled on the chips and salsa and the tostada. The chips were tasty but a little greasy, loved all the salsas! The tostada was on point. Great margaritas. Service was ok. My server i could tell wasn't too enthusiastic about having a one top (or even another table). I had to ask for silverware etc. but it wouldn't prevent me from trying it out again if I was visiting.
Flew in from NYC to MN for their State Fair. Since I'm traveling solo I wanted to dine local in a lively area. This place was two blocks from my hotel and I must say what a great find! I had the tamal and a mocktail. Both were really good! The tomato based pepper salsa was just right...a slow building heat and the crema cooled it down. For dessert I had the tres leches. Portion size was large. It was okay but not authentic. Food service was quick also. My only slight observation is the waitress was polite but a little cold. Probably due to busy day. Overall a really good experience for my first time downtown Minnesota. I would visit again.
Great drinks, great atmosphere, guacamole and homemade chips were delicious. We didn’t have a lot of time so didn’t get dinner, but the tacos look amazing! If you get a chance to stop here even for a drink, do it! They have other options besides tequila- other liquor, wine, beer. Can’t wait to go back to try more!
Good prices for downtown Nicollet ave. Food is as good as expected and atmosphere great too. Pork carnitas taco was a little bland but the gringo tacos are the good ones that Tim Walz can brag about!
Stopped in for tappas before a show at the Orpheum. Overall, we had a really good meal. Drinks were strong and flavorful. The queso was delicious but we were totally underwhelmed by the $3 sprinkle of chorizo across the top. The chips were thick and well-made (maybe a little under-salted). The yuca fries were phenomenal- Really crispy, savory, and delicious. The chicken tamale was also great - probably my favorite part of the meal and definitely not something you'll want to share. Tacos - pork and steak were good, Mahi taco wasn't as crispy as it could have been. Bill was about $75 - a little pricey based on quantity, but probably on par based on quality.
Date night! It was yummy and great seating! Do wish the table was a little bigger! Overall, it was a great time!
Ordered off Uber Eats and everything went very well and was very timely. Issue was I did not get the right food, but the food I got was good. I also specifically asked for utensils and did not receive any with my order, so I had to use the lids, cilantro rice was excellent. Would try again in the future.
My date and i ate outside. It was nice and cozy on the patio and the service was great. The food lacked seasoning and both my date and i wanted salt. The tre leches cake had coconut on it which was a different flair and twist, it had nice presentation though.
Barrio has a nice atmosphere for having some drinks and their salsas, guac and chips were all good. Their food menu could use some work though, especially for the prices. They serve tapas style, which is fine, but there was nothing that sounded particularly appetizing for dinner. I decided on 3 tacos - mahi mahi, steak, and pork belly, and they were probably about 3 bites each with store bought tortillas. The meat was average, but scant, in all of them but the tortillas fell apart and for $6 each I would expect better. Drinks were around $15 each. The servers were friendly and very attentive but the food wasn’t worth the price for dinner.
Atmosphere was nice. We sat outside and enjoyed wine, gringo taco, and guacamole. The guacamole is not seasoned, the chips are fresh and the happy hour is very affordable!
I am here for the ASPA Conference, so I wanted explore the downtown area close to my hotel. Most of the restaurants were closed or closing. I searched quickly as it was raining, located this restaurant and headed there. Upon arrival the atmosphere was a classic mix of oak and metal aesthetic, music in full swing for the bar/club scene. The music was not traditional Spanish music, the staff was also not ethnic, so I was skeptical. The waiter was NOT welcoming but I ignored this because I was hungry .I order a chicken taco, a steak taco, chips and signature salsas with the Barrio margarita. Well when the tacos arrived I knew this was not authentic Mexican food but the new style cuisine. The chicken was flavorful but the avocado slices were bland with no flavor. The tortillas were some new style and didn’t hold at all. The steak taco was not worth it at all, the meat was red and tuuufff‼️ Overall, the food was ok, I didn’t mind spending $20,( the waiter never brought my drink) I asked the food runner does she bring my drink, then another waiter came over to check on me and brought my drink over. I would not recommend but if you drop in you can find something to hold you overnight.🤷🏽♀️
Decent food for a decent price. Please don’t expect authentic eats. I like the atmosphere, but the staff were not friendly and very unwelcoming, I won’t be back.
I've eaten at Barrio and ordered takeout and I both times now have left underwhelmed. The food seems woefully overpriced for the mediocre delivery and portion size. I did not enjoy the quesadilla, I thought the cheese did not vibe with the rest of the dish by anymeans. The queso Oaxaca was a nice authentic touch but I felt it did not fit with the chicken. The chicken enchilada was tiny as heck and lacked any flavor. The eighteen dollar price tag is frankly ridiculous for the portion size. One should be wary ordering this dish. The Wood Grilled chicken plate is another unconscionable portion size for a dish completely devoid of flavor. I found nothing enjoyable about this dish. Fresh Corn Chowder: I have been harsh in this review but the corn chowder has my highest praise. This was the first dish I ate in my meal and I really thought the meal would be wonderful given the luxurious texture, incredible freshness, and perfect seasoning of this dish. I support Barrios mission to serve authentic cuisine but I can't provide much for a recommendation given their miniscule portion size, their dishes lacking seasoning, and the pretentious feel of this institution.
Food was good and our server was very polite and friendly. However, my group of five all ordered dinner meals-two items came out right away. The rest of the items came out at least 30 minutes later. Very awkward for the group and the early meals were absolutely cold by the time the rest of the meals arrived. In what world are the meals not all brought out together? A little land is fine but 30 minutes is unacceptable. Put quite a damper on the evening
