Best bento box in town and not that expensive. Customer service could be better.

Excellent sushi and bento box meals. Flavors are authentic and delicious along with colorful presentations. All of the fish was fresh and savory. Definitely one of our favorite restaurants for sushi. Update for 2024: Still as good and our family go to for sushi. Carry out is good with no issues. Discount rolls during the week are an excellent dinner option.

My boyfriend and I have been coming here at least once a week if not more for almost 2 years and I’ve never had a bad experience. The food is always fresh, amazing and out in a matter of minutes. The waitress's, chef’s, and owners always put the customers first and are extremely friendly. 1000/10 highly recommend.

Me and the rest of my family went for dinner here on a Friday night, and it was completely obvious that they were understaffed. Not because of the service or anything, but because the few servers were running around doing five things at once and boy were they AMAZING at it! The two young women who served us were absolutely great, and nothing but polite to each and everyone of us. There was a group double our size across from us that I believe was one of the main reasons the poor waitresses had such a rough night. Some of the demands we could hear from them were pretty bizarre and met with rudeness when the waitresses couldn't accomplish them properly. Gave my table a good snicker though! The food itself was absolutely delicious. I ordered the fried potstickers as an appetizer, and got the green dragon roll as an entree. Both were great but I will definitely be coming back to have another green dragon roll soon ! And maybe try some of their bento as well!

Very nice sushi! The quality is probably rated a bit lower than a 5★ but there are quite a few cheaply priced rolls that are very nice, especially if you visit on a weekday and can access the half off sushi roll section. I can vouch for the ocean roll and the Sakura rolls as being tasty from the half off section. I would not fully recommend the cheaper rolls on the back of the menu, such as the rock n roll roll that has eel, as while it's a little cheaper, it's only the size of half a roll, making it a much better value to get even a full priced regular menu roll

Wasn't too busy. But the sushi was great!! Definitely taking the family back here.

The Manila Roll deep fried was THE BEST I’VE EVER EATEN!! It’s on the 1/2 off menu M-TH (costs extra to deep fry) but sweet mother of God….it was incredible. Tempura shrimp, spicy tuna & cucumber topped with unagi & sweet wasabi that was absolutely NOT too spicy. It was divine….I will think about that roll every single time I eat sushi again. I seriously doubt any other roll could compare! Can’t wait to go back.

Umi's is a wonderful place. Just in Modesto for a little visit. All agreed on Sushi. This is the ONLY sushi restaurant open between 2-4pm. It is a jewel. Food was hot, fresh and delicious. Service was prompt and our server was a sweetheart (Thank you). One family member was in a w/c and she had already prepare a special place for her. We ate our fill and the ticket was half what we pay at home PS Monday-Thursday at lunch they half off sushi rolls (not sure about times)

I have been several times, the sushi is good and we came during days week in wich they have promotions in rolls which are good. Most of this times the place is very busy and usually we wait between 10 and 15 min to be seated, when we are seated then we have to wait about 15 min again for the waitress to bring the menu and we can order our food, then take again around 20 min or more to get our food, this process is a little long and if we whant another drink takes time to get our waitress attention. So, we have to be very patient and willing to wait a long time to get the food. Most of the waitress just ignored the costumers when we wait for a table, they looks very busy or taking the orders for to go. I will suggest a fast service and the waitress check more often on the costumers.

The sushi was decent, overly focused on spiciness and dressing. Service was excellent and so was the plum wine. I don't know that I'd be excited to pay weekend dinner prices for this but it is really solid value for money at the weekday price point (whole front page of the sushi menu is half off all day Monday through Thursday!).

The sushi rolls were pretty good. We ordered The Big Show roll. Very large in size. We also ordered teriyaki chicken and I do not recommend at all. The chicken was thin, non seasoned slices with bland sauce on it.

They gave pretty decent portion sizes, talk about more bank for your buck! The pot stickers were superb, the rice was fluffy, and the sushi was bomb. But the tempura veggies could use some work "I'm talking about some elbow grease". Lol The tempura shrimp is a rip off you can't even taste it because its been stretched out so much. Its like you're basically eating grease and tempura. 🥴 🤮

Sushi was okay, nothing that was a wow factor to me. A lot of the sushi consist of the same ingredients just toppings/sauces where different. Prices are good and they give 50% off some rolls during "happy hour" which is nice. My son got the Terriyaki Chicken bento box, chicken tasted like it was boiled then grilled and sauce poured on top, we weren't a fan of it. Waiters were nice and it does seem like they have some consistent customers. Place has an off smell and water is not filtered, it had a bad taste right away. We got Appetizer, 5 rolls, bento box (2 side choices), and 2 beverages for $90

The time it takes to get your food is a bit slow. 35 minutes for 4 rolls. But it was probably because there was only one person making sushi at the time. The sushi rolls were okay. The half off deal made it more worth it.

Unfortunately I felt treated less than third class. I am White and my partner and his mother are Filipino. They received there food reasonably in time. 10 minutes into the meal, my server hadn't returned. Flagged down another server and she rather curtly advised that all rolls were taking longer (although noticed other tables received there's reasonably on time.) However I had also ordered Ramen. She brought it to me but it didn't look like the picture and barely had anything in the bowl except noodles. 15 minutes later I still hadn't received my roll. Keep in mind the original server still hadn't returned and about 25 minutes have elapsed since everyone else's food was served. Flagged the other server down again and told her to take the roll off the ticket. She than states she'll give it to me if it can be made quickly (implying I as the customer wouldn't have a choice to remove it from my order if it wasn't made yet.) Never was some kind of discount offered for such 3rd class service. Being appreciative of how hard and thanksless serving can be I still left a 15% tip. Also the food was good and prices reasonable. So if you're not White (or if you are, make sure you're with other people who are not and have them order for you or get ready for less than Walmart service) enjoy this establishment.

Very underwhelming, slightly disappointing. Service should be more welcoming of a guest. I did not enjoy any aspect of my visit. Wasabi was earthy, not spicy, maybe expired. The ginger was alright. The sushi is not for people that enjoy sushi, it’s for people that don’t know the difference between proper sushi and “food”. I would not return under any circumstances unfortunately

Very disappointing. We ordered a few of their rolls that were 50% off and they seemed like they had left out 50% of the roll. Extremely small rolls, these would have been $18+ at full price. Most of the rolls contained tempura something, it was difficult to find a roll that contained raw fish. Those type of rolls may be someone's style but they were not mine. They all come slopped in multiple sauces as well, again not for me. The Hamachi lovers roll was very tasty but also very tiny, less than 1 inch of fish on top. We also ordered the sashimi salad, I do not recommend this at all. Mostly lettuce doused in massive amounts of dressing, literally a pool of dressing on the bottom of the plate. The "sashimi" for the salad was tiny half inch cubes of fish, I struggled to find the fish in all the lettuce, $15 for severely overdressed lettuce. Service was good. I will not be back, once was too much for me.

Used to absolutely love this place but went in to order for take out and literally waited over an hour while I watched others get seated ate food and left + other people would come in order take out and have it ready after 20 mins mind you we only ordered two rolls and when I asked the owner if we could get a discount for next time after we had finally gotten our food after an hour of watching everyone else get their orders first she refused and claimed that it was just how their take out works but how do four /five people place a take out order in front of us and get it within the next 20 minutes ?? How do three families and three couples get seated eat and left way before we got our order please make it make sense if your Mexican definitely don't go here cause you'll probably get the Same treatment

We ordered take out and picked it up from the restaurant. The food was terrible. Had two special sushi rolls. The rice was refrigerator cold and stale. The tempura shrimp was ice cold and chewy. The chicken teriyaki was as hard as card board with bitter black char marks. I'm guessing it was all leftover from the previous day. They also didn't include any soy sauce or chopsticks. We threw a lot of it away and basically lost 60 dollars for the two of us. We won't go back.

My husband asked if they could remove avocado from his California roll in his bento box due to a food allergy and was told no because it was “complimentary” even though we were paying for the meal. Also, my husband accidentally spilled some water on the ground, started cleaning it up with a napkin, and then the server came over and handed him more napkins to keep cleaning the floor and walked away. I’ve never experienced a server not helping clean up a spill. Awful customer service!

We Will never go to this place again! I spent $56 for food I didn't order and the "Chef" NOT knowing his own menu came to my table to argue even after seeing his own menu!!!!!! I ordered a shrimp tempura roll and was served a Green dragon roll I told the server what I ordered and she called the chef who said well it's the same roll just more avocado. ( My kid doesn't like avocado and I get her to eat it when there's a little bit not covered And it has No unagi sauce ) I showed them their menu and the clear differences of each roll and they offered me a side of unagi sauce! The Lion King roll specifically states what the ingredients are and they added mayo over the whole roll like a baked salmon roll?!?!?

Found a bunch of hair in a whole role of sushi, they gave no discount and made us pay full. And they gave Diet Pepsi instead is regular Pepsi.

First time there and the raw sushi appetizers did not have good flavor. My Grilled Squid was burnt, flavorless and cold. Sashimi salad had more salad than actual fish. The salmon box had two very small pieces of salmon. Not worth the price or flavor. Now if you like just sushi rolls, they seem to have and abundance of those and variety.

Ordered food from here tonight spent almost $200 annd was very underwhelmed. The service made us feel like they wanted us to just get out. Every bit of sushi we got did not taste great, the sushi rolls did not have the correct ingredients according to the menu and if it was there you couldn’t tell. Every roll tasted the same like a big ball of mush no flavor. Extremely disappointed as this used to be a favorite.
