My family absolutely loves dining with Zab Zab. Normally, my wife complains that the Thai food is not hot like it's advertised to be. However, here she says it's just right ✅️ We all enjoyed having separate meals and sharing with each other. The ginger tea was soothing and sharp at the same time, perfectly made. I took a break and enjoyed the outdoor patio, and on returning, the fam ordered 2 sticky mango rice desserts. It was purple and beyond delicious 😋.
Beautifully hidden location right on Lighthouse with its own small parking lot and one handicap space which is next to a wheelchair friendly ramp into the cute restaurant. Plenty of outdoor seating so bring your Fido. Excellent food, pleasant service, wonderful garden setting and was easily/quickly seated with 2 large dogs. Having lived in Thailand for a few months and eating out everyday, the tastes and aromas brought back all those delightful memories. It's definitely very authentic and presentation was spot on. Highly recommend coming and for dinner they do accept reservations. We were there to celebrate a Mother's Day lunch and it didn't disappoint 😋
Kao soi was delicious! Great servive friendly staff
My husband and I recently ate here and enjoyed it very much. The food was fresh and had great flavor. The service was friendly.
I was hesitant after seeing some bad reviews, but the clerk at the hotel said Zab Zab was good. So I ordered delivery to the hotel as I was beat from walking around and being a tourist. 🤣 Food was quite tasty and they give you a decent amount. even had some leftovers for a snack. I'd get food there again next time I am in town.
Visiting Carmel and looking for a good dinner option for 9 people — Zac Zac was terrific! Everything was packaged well for pick up and delicious — will definitely order again from this restaurant. Highly recommended!
This is a surprisingly good place. We didn't expected them to make so many options available in Vegetarian and Jain food (no onion no garlic and no potatoes). And person taking order knew exactly what we were talking about dietary restrictions. On top of all this, the food was delicious and super yummy. This place is one of the reason we would visit monterey again. Highly recommended for Vegetarian and Jain diet.
Great lunch, we have trouble finding Khao Soi and they had a great version of it. The patio was really nice and garden-like, and the mango sticky rice was awesome. The ambiance was really cool in the garden and some unique glassware, and Tuong was very attentive to our table. Would recommend.
We were so happy to try this spot while we were in the area! Service was friendly and quick, and overall a nice casual and comfortable setting to enjoy great food. Panang curry is usually my go-to when we get Thai, and it was excellent. Great flavor and a balance of spice.
Delicious and flavorful Thai food at this charming, family-run restaurant with a lovely outdoor terrace and convenient parking in the back. Although we didn't sit outside due to the chilly weather, it would be a perfect spot on a sunny day. The service was outstanding and incredibly fast. The server even took the time to explain to my friend how to eat the artichoke special on the menu—such a thoughtful touch! The atmosphere feels cozy and welcoming, with a warm, cheerful vibe that makes you feel right at home. A fantastic spot for authentic Thai food in Monterey!
I have been coming to ZAB Zab since it opened and have always been treated like a member of the family....Even when it is busy and Pooy, Thong, OP, and Dao are running around, they take the time to take care of me the best they can. The food is always great, you just have to make sure to order the REAL REAL version of the dish.. Kai Soy forever!!!!!
It was sooooo GOOD we didn’t even have time to take pictures! And their patio is pet friendly🥰🥰
We loved the food here, though it took a bit for it to get to the table (more than we're used to with thai places near home). Everything we had was great, pad khee mao (med spicy), massuman (beef was so tender), the clear broth soup, and then mango sticky rice.
Great menu at Zab Zab. Service is impeccable and personable. Food is outstanding! Zab Zab is our hands down favorite on the Monterey Peninsula. Highly recommended. Pad Thai, Pumpkin Curry and Yellow Curry are our go to faves.
Our favorite go to place for dinner or takeout. Best Thai food I have ever had. The owners clearly love what they do. We miss them every December when they close down for a week or so to visit their home in Thailand.
This is my favorite Thai restaurant ever. The food is amazing and delicious every time. The service is impeccable and friendly. I love it here.
Absolutely recommend the kao soi! It was the perfect dish to warm you up in the evening and had great flavor! The service is great too!
I absolutely love Zab Zab Thai Cuisine! Every time we order takeout, the staff is incredibly kind and their friendly attitude always brightens my day. The food is consistently delicious, full of flavor, and made with care. Plus, the restaurant itself is beautiful—cozy, inviting, and full of charm. You can really feel the love they put into everything they do. Highly recommended!
I stopped by today for a light dinner after a golf game. I went without much expectations, but it was so delicious. In particular, the ordinary-looking spring rolls taste really fresh and healthy. It wasn't the spring roll you normally get at Vietnamese restaurants. We didn't take any pictures, but we finished it in admiration. The coconut soup was really healthy, but I think it would have been better if it had been a little warmer. Tom Cha Noodles came out a bit lumpy and it was a mess. It's worth a visit when you need a quick meal in Monterey.
This place is my go-to for Thai food in Monterey. You can call me a regular. The staff are super nice and friendly! My usual orders are papaya salad, fried chicken wings, and sticky rice ❤️. Of course you have many more selections to choose from the menu. They have beer (Singha and others) and wine you can enjoy with your meal. They have indoor and outdoor seating. 10/10 would recommend! 😊 รักทุกคนในร้านนี้ค่ะ ขอบคุณที่ดูแลหนูมาตลอดนะคะ 정말 맛있어요!
Ordered Tom yum soup and chowmein. Both were delicious and one of the best thai dishes we ever had. We sat in their patio area with our dog, super nice patio area with flowers etc which makes the surrounding really pleasant. Would highly recommend anyone visiting Monterey and need a delicious family meal with thier pets and kids.
The food here was amazing! It's nice to find a food option too in Monterey that's not seafood or pasta. Not only was the wait short but the waiter was quick and helpful. We ordered and got our food fast. The quality of the food was amazing! One of best Thai restaurants in the entire bay area to be honest. My wife will definitely be coming back here. I recommend the Massaman Curry with chicken (substitute) and the Pineapple Fried Rice.
Such a lovely spot. The Thai Tea was absolutely amazing! The appetizers we had were so delicious. I wish I had gotten something else for my main though. The beef and broccoli wok was pretty standard… I was really expecting something super delicious because of the tea and appetizers. Still good though.
This restaurant came recommended. They did lie. The food was fantastic. The service was superb. We were allowed to choose our table. We were accommodated our gluten free order and vegetarian order.
Amazing authentic Thai food. I highly recommend their curry dishes along with the duck dishes. I enjoy my food crazy spicy and I love that they can accommodate that with the spice level choices you can do.
Great atmosphere, reasonable prices, very cute interior and exterior. The location on Lighthouse is stellar. The mussaman beef curry is my personal favorite, one of the top dishes across all restaurants in Monterey!
My wife had the Wonton Soup, I had the Mango-Coco curry with shrimp and my 6 year old daughter had the Beef Massaman curry. All were outstanding! We will definitely be coming back!
Had a craving all week for this Thai Coconut Soup! Super refreshing, and incredibly delicious! Got a Thai Tea on the side that gave me that extra kick i needed in the afternoon. The outdoor patio seating is private and surrounded by flowers. Great price too! Most people will spend about $15-$20 per person!
This place was so cute and the owners are absolutely lovely. I went out to lunch with a friend and it was absolutely delicious! I got a green curry while she got a red. As you can see, the presentation is beautiful and let me tell you… it tastes as good as it looks! Of course if you visit, you gotta get the Thai tea, and we couldn’t help a little sweet treat. Everything was phenomenal (especially the service). Definitely on of my favorite restaurants in the area.
Love this place. We've tried most of the Thai places in the area and this is by far our favorite. It feels the most authentic. My only complaint is that they don't offer different spice levels (which I think says more about the clientele than about their food, because this has been the case at every Thai restaurant we've tried around here so far). I have family from Thailand and have visited the country before, so I think my standards are higher than most in the area, but overall this place is great and I'm happy to have a go-to for Thai cuisine.
Just had to share our incredible experience at Zab Zab Thai in Monterey. This place absolutely blew us away from the moment we walked in. The service here is top-notch - the staff was so friendly and welcoming, and they really knew their stuff when it came to the menu. You can tell they care about making sure every guest has a great time. Every single dish we ordered was cooked to perfection. We ordered Pineapple Fried Rice, Basil Fried Rice and Panang Curry with Chicken. Sticky Rice with Mango Dessert was the perfect way to end our meal. Here's the thing - we enjoyed it so much that we actually went back the very next day! How often does that happen? The second visit was just as amazing as the first. The consistency really impressed us. Zab Zab Thai definitely made our Monterey trip even more special. We fell in love with this beautiful town, and this restaurant was a big part of that experience. If you are in Monterey, do yourself a favour and check out Zab Zab Thai. Highly, highly recommended!
We went for dinner right after opening time at 4:15pm and only one other group was there with us, but it was slowly getting crowded. The staff was overall very friendly and the service was very quick. We had two appetizers (fresh spring rolls and deep fried egg rolls), Thai iced tea, two main courses (Panang curry with Tofu and basil fried rice with Tofu) and sticky mango rice for dessert. All the dishes were very tasty and well prepared. We particularly enjoyed the curry. We will definitely be back to try more dishes from the menu.
We arrived at this restaurant around 6:30pm, and there were plenty of parking, which is a plus. The restaurant location is perfect. The patio is beautiful. Our party of 3 ordered 4 dishes: Pok Pok, Tom Yum Fire-pot with tofu, Pad Cashew with chicken and Pineapple Curry with Pork. All of them were delicious, especially the Pok Pok and curry. Service was top notch. Everyone was caring and attentive to our needs. We had a great experience at this restaurant.
Quality restaurant. Staff was very friendly and allowed us to put our order in while waiting for a table. Great thai food
We have been here many times before but it seems food is becoming much less "special" and more like something I may find in a mall. We have always recommended this restaurant for those visiting Monterey but I am not sure this is a place I would recommend in the future. I am giving a 4 star because this restaurant has been awesome in the past.
Definitely a good place to eat! Loved the egg rolls and their signature Tom Yum fried rice!
Great tasting Thai, comparatively priced with local Thai restaurants. Street parking was available, pickup lunch special order missed a soup, and pen to sign receipt leaked quite a bit (easily remedied). Will be back 😋 service was great for the dining in experience. Waitress has a sense of humor 😊
While my experience at Zab Zab Thai was mixed, there were definitely highlights worth mentioning. The Pad See Ew didn't quite hit the mark for me, lacking the depth of flavor I was expecting. However, where Zab Zab Thai truly shines is in their selection of curries. From the aromatic green curry to the rich and creamy red curry, each dish delivered a delightful burst of authentic Thai flavors. If you're a curry enthusiast, Zab Zab Thai is definitely worth a visit.
This place was alright for Thai food, I got a spicy soup which was not spicy and I tasted more tomato than anything but I was really hungry and it did the job. I got it with a side of steamed rice and I give it a 4 because it could’ve been better but it was still delicious. I’d def go again but probably get something else.
This is a cute little gem nestled in Monterey. Parking is a little rough , but if you're lucky, you will get street parking in the front , if not, there are parking garages nearby. The staff is friendly and efficient. We started off with the appetizer shrimp dumpling, and it was sooo delicious. It came with a yummy lil sauce you dip the dumplings in. We highly recommend this appetizer. For our main lunch dishes, My husband got the red curry, and I got the massamun beef. Our son had the chicken noodle soup . Food was flavorful and just enough. We definitely recommend to to by for a lunch or dinner If in town .
Very clean restaurant with cute decorations. Pretty quick service. Saturday lunch time, got here with 3 other friends and got seated right away. There are only 2 servers but the speed was not bad. Ordered beef pad sew ew, tong young soup, red curry with rice and chicken sa tay. Desserts are mango sticky rice and coconut ice cream. Everything taste ok. It could be a little mild compared to traditional Thai restaurants
This is so far the best Thai I had in and around sfo . The Thai basil fried rice was so good rich in flavour , the panang curry is a must try.We were here on a Saturday night and the place was really busy , will definitely recommend to reserve ahead . Small cute place with authentic taste . The serving needs to be little more accommodating during the weekends , an amazing place and must visit Thai place .
I went to this place for their Thai food. I got the bento 🍱 box. It was good! The best part was the pork! But and there is a big BUT! Their pad Thai was horrible! A Thai restaurant should always be on point with Pad Thai. I have had Pad Thai from many places but this place I would not recommend ordering it. The pork on the other hand was fantastic, it was seasoned just right and most other people were also ordering the pork! I would highly recommend the pork here.
Cute, cozy, no-frills Thai restaurant with a super friendly staff and all your favorite classics dishes cooked to perfection. I visited Zab Zab for dinner after a long day of exploring the Monterey Bay Aquarium, so we were absolutely famished. We tried their tom yum soup, cashew stir fry, mango coco curry, and pad see ew, all of which were delightful. The tom yum was refreshing and creamy, with a great balance of coconut milk and spice. It had a generous portion of veggies and tofu, and the fire pot it was served in was super fun. My second favorite had to be the mango coco curry — it was refreshing and fruity, yet perfectly savory and slightly spicy. It was a bit sweet from the fruit, but that helped balance out the other spices and flavors. The shrimp was tender, and I loved the chunks of mango inside. You also can never go wrong with a good cashew stir fry or pad see ew — all of them were cooked well and tasty. I do think the pad see ew and, across a few dishes, the tofu could have used a tiny bit more seasoning, but it was still solid.
Centrally located, near Cannery Row, with a well manicured entryway! This is a tiny restaurant, so it may not accommodate large groups. Service was quick and courteous, but the food- both the spring rolls and green curry- bland. The sticky rice with mango was the clear winner. The green colored rice was unusual, but made for a pretty presentation!
Not the best Thai I've eaten. The food was fine, the ambience was good but the flavors were not that great. The spice level was little higher for my taste buds so remember to order no spice if that's what you like. We also ordered the coconut ice cream in the end. The presentation was awesome but the taste was nothing out of the world. Pretty basic.
I visited this restaurant with my family for lunch. While the food was delicious and the ambiance warm and cozy, I was quite disappointed by an unreasonable policy. The restaurant mandates a minimum of one dish per person, which felt excessive in our case. We were a group of six, not particularly hungry, yet we were required to order five dishes. The explanation given was that the restaurant was full, which didn’t seem like a valid reason for enforcing this rule so rigidly. Although we enjoyed the meal, this inflexible policy took away from the overall experience. Unfortunately, I don’t see myself returning in the future because of it.
Recently I have tried Zab Zab’s Tuesday lunch box special. It comes with jasmine rice, Tom kha tofu soup, and spring mix valley salad with tamarind peanut dressing. Tom kha soup was nothing special at all. That tamarind peanut dressing was tasteless. I had red curry with chicken and Pad Prik Khing with chicken as part of the lunch special meal.. Red curry was good but Pad Prik Khing tasted bland. Beans were smelly and not fresh at all. Service was good.Ambience is nice but definitely not coming back.
Clean joint. Service wonderful. Food not the spicy Thai I’m use to but they bring the sides of pepper 🌶 if you want to pile it on yourself. Next visit I will have them cook the heat in. Great alternative to waiting an hr or more to get into a seafood joint. My gut is not waiting an hr or more for nobody…. Don’t care how good it is. Give them a try!
Papaya salad... 3/5 stars...they use a Pre-made dressing, not real lime. No flavor just sour and sweet Beef namtok...1/5 stars..not flavor. They use pre sliced thick beef strips. No flavor. Again they use the same dressing at the papaya salad. Pad thai 4/5 stars.. very good but the noodles were not soft. Won't come back.
Had dinner on June 22 evening. Food was OK and tend to be sweeter than normal Thai restaurant. Pricing in food items are deceiving. They add extras on beef as other Thai restaurant considers beef as standard. You need to read their menu in details to figure out how they charge customers. They also add 4% when paying by credit card which we learned afterwards. Disappointing experience!
Honestly very subpar. The owner was pretty rude honestly and food was pretty much what you can get at any thai place. The actual employees are nice but super overwhelmed — I’d order takeout
Maybe because my husband and I are from LA, which has an abundance of authentic and tasty Thai food, but we were underwhelmed by the flavor and service of Zab Zab, unfortunately. It was a Thursday night on 12/28/23 at 6:45pm approximately that we arrived. We were seated almost an HOUR later and got to eat 15+ minutes after. It was soooooo busy and we thought we had come on a good day. We looked up this place on Reddit and it was recommended but maybe it's because most were local opinions? I'm assuming Monterey doesnt have a lot of Thai options. We assume a waiter/waitress had called out on a shift because there were only 3 servers from what we could see for the whole place, servicing inside and outside. What I really didn't like is that while we were waiting for our table, one waitress had us look at the menu and actually order before we even had a table. However, it turned out to be a blessing because our food took forever to come out after being seated and we heard other patrons complain about the wait as well - yikes! After being so hungry and the food finally came out, we had a bite and looked at each other. The food was... mediocre. We both had ordered dishes from "the wok." It had no flavor or spice, in my opinion. The sauce could have stuck better to the vegetables and protein if they threw in a bit of a cornstarch slurry to thicken it up. I'm not a professional chef but having cooked many meals from around the world at home, I was disappointed. The wait times made it way worst but the servers were trying their very best against such a numerous crowd. We probably will not be back but the ambience was nice. Tables could be physically smaller outside (i.e. square or rectangle instead of bulky, circular ones) to fit more parties but that's also just my opinion.
I hope my next order is better. I like Thai place and I want to give this place another chance. I got the Bangkok Duck and it tasted like expired duck that was cooked and ONLY seasoned with salt. They did give me a sauce that could substantially overpower the expiry taste of the cooked duck. Ordering online was smooth.
I have been here a few times in the span of 5 years and I can definitely say it has gotten worse. The musamann beef advertises it self as coming with a roti but comes with a Costco naan. Also we ordered Thai tea and when they brought it there was an alien substance floating in the glass. We asked to get rid of it and they brought back the same drink in a very filthy glass. Unacceptable
Portion is small, Taste is just so so. Overprice. For someone that has tasted many Thai restaurant, this restaurant is letdown. This restaurant can only survive in Monterey area. There is no way they can survive in LA food scene. Steak just so so portion small the sauce is okay. Worst version of Salmon Cho Chee, i think my wife made a better version. Pad See Ew is okay nothing to rave about. Fried Tofu appetizer has only 6 small pieces for $10. Massamun Beef Curry is okay. Pad Ka Prow is average at best. Nothing really is special about the food here.
The service was terrible. Hi, I need to say something. When we were waiting for the table today for dinner ( July 6, 2025 ) . One of the waitress asked us; do you want to order now? I said okay, but she was walking around and doing something else while we were ordering, not playing attention to us and she was not plying us. My daughter’s curry chicken order was delayed about 30 minutes, me and my wife were finishing our meal but my daughter was still waiting for her food. So we went to ask for her food? Then they came to start cooking with out saying anything. So my daughter loose her interesting taste. Go for other dinner after dinner. I feel very guilty for her. This is very bad experience for that Thai restaurant. The food delay is not because the kitchen too small and please do not say to me go to cook by myself in your restaurant.
We ordered Thai fried rice with tofu and curry fried rice with chicken. Food was okayish, but sanitation zero, we found small hair on the dish. They took literally an hour to serve us the food. I won’t recommend anyone to visit here.
Very disappointed came here for dinner on 7/4 , we ordered 2 dishes thai fried rice (chicken and shrimp) and sauteed chicken and shrimp w/ black bean sauce and 2 waters and they do not offer any refills on their lemonade so don't bother. The waiters were rude and the food took 1 1/2hrs for it to come every time we asked a worker how much longer they kept saying 10mins...This was the worse experience i had at a restaurant and it had to be on my husbands birthday at that. Will never recommend this place and the food was not even seasoned well or flavorful. If i could of gave a 0 star i would of.
I regret spending 60 dollars here. The pad Thai noodles were undercooked and tasted like soy sauce. The lemongrass chicken was lackluster, I was more drawn to the white rice it came with. The ginger tea was just a yogi teabag in hot water. The spring rolls were good but not enough to save the experience. It felt like there was always someone hovering next to our table to use the bathroom. I won’t eat here again
The seating was awful. Service was bad. Food is very low quality and very expensive relative to the quality.
0/5. The food was objectively the worst Thai food I’ve ever had in my life. My partner got a stomachache immediately after eating. I’d give a -5 out of 5. It’s unfortunate because they are kind staff. Also they charged us for the extra cilantro I asked. I never saw a Thai restaurant charging us for extra cilantro.
Not very good. The pad prik king was not nearly as good as other restaurants. It came with zucchini and carrots (strange) instead of red bell pepper and onion which is usual. I didn't taste kaffir lime at all. I specifically asked for onion and it didn't come with it. The green beans tasted frozen. The chicken was overcooked. The "prawns" where small shrimp. Not nearly worth the extra money. Service was average. Be aware there is a hidden 3% processing fee for cards. I won't be back.
The food was by far the worst thai food i've ever had. There is no way pad thai tastes that sweet and salty. And I got pad thai, not a northern thai dish, a dish that is extremely easy and universal to make. Such a massive disappointment. I have no idea how people around here think this place is considered good thai.
The young waitress was nice but the restaurant owner was very rude. At end of the shift of the waitress, the female owner continue to serve the table. She was very rude with poker face and loud voice as if we owed her something. I asked fish source with chili two times which are offered free at most Thai restaurants. It is very tiny plate fish source. They charged us $2 without telling us up front until I saw the bill. It is first time I was charged in Thai restaurant for fish source. Many Thai restaurants have them on table for free. It is almost like Chinese restaurant charges customers for extra soy source. They also charge processing fee if you pay with credit card!
Worst Thai restaurant I’ve ever been to. It took forever to place our order even though the restaurant was very quiet with only a few tables occupied. The portions were small, and the food was extremely salty and overly sweet—the worst Thai food I’ve had. After taking our order, the servers never came back to check on us. We had to go to the register near the entrance ourselves to ask for the bill. When we paid and left, no one said thank you or even acknowledged us, which is very unusual compared to most restaurants. Afterward, I saw reviews mentioning cockroaches in the food, and if I had seen those earlier, I would never have come. My dish also had something stuck on it and looked dirty. They even charge an extra fee for paying with a credit card. Not even worth one star.
Trashy servers. I called before going there to check if they take walk ins. The lady on the phone said yes. I got there and both the servers at the reception didNOT bat an eye. I stood there for 5 minutes when they were attending other people but not me. I then approached one of the ladies and she looked at me and said “wait a second” OH EXCUSE YOU. Then finally I got handed the menu and was told to sit wherever, I chose outside. There were three tables remaining. One was secluded. I wanted to go to the other table in the corner but a server was cleaning it up. He asks while I approach the secluded chair “seating there?” I point to the one he is cleaning and said “Oh maybe there😄” Tell me why this man yells at me and says “Not here” with an ugly stank face!!!!??????? I would AVOID this place overall. Entitled servers with the attitude of literal royalties . Mid food . Basil rice was oily and hardly edible, egg rolls I ordered had 162829 cilantro leaves. I am not a cow, next.
Rating: 0/5 I was really looking forward to trying this Thai restaurant, but unfortunately, my experience was ruined. I ordered Thai fried rice with chicken, and to my horror, I found a roach in my food. It was completely unexpected and disappointing. I brought it to the attention of the staff, but their response was underwhelming, and I felt that the seriousness of the situation wasn’t fully acknowledged. Cleanliness should be a top priority in any restaurant, and this experience made me question the standards here. I hope they take this issue seriously and improve their sanitation practices. Until then, I can’t recommend this place to anyone.
