I get back to the Bay Area frequently and China Moon is usually a must visit for dinner. It’s a humble place but delivers great classic Chinese eats (Cantonese, Mandarin) for an affordable price. The salt and pepper pork chops are perfectly fried and the mu shu and pan-fried noodles are excellent. Excellent and fast service. Don’t sleep on this hidden gem if you enjoy Chinese food!
A truly delicious takeout experience. Two of my favorite dishes are the salt and pepper fish and eggplant and tofu. The fish is crispy (even as takeout!) and so tasty. The eggplant and tofu are so soft and packed with flavor. I recommend China moon!
A great Cantonese restaurant in the food desert known as Lamorinda. All dishes are good but I highly recommend their salt and pepper spareribs, Hong Kong style chow Mein and whatever is on their daily special menu.
Moraga is one of the last places on earth that you would expect a decent Chinese restaurant. But here you go. Believe me or not, China Moon actually has a pretty good reputation among the Chinese in the area. It is not fancy. It is just simple, authentic, honest Chinese food run by a very friendly Chinese family. It is very reasonably price. The portions are huge. Some Chinese even ask the chef to get fresh fish from Oakland to prepare for them. Keep it going, China Moon!
Love this place. Family owned and good quality in the middle of Rheem Moraga. Good value during lunch but go for dinner and try the menu. So many good options. Little on the older side for decor but food is good.
Food was just so delicious!! And awesome customer service. Can't wait to go back.
Thank you for that accommodations to the people that I was with. They were really hyper since they are best friends. Overall amazing food, loved the orange chicken, chow mein, & potstickers.

So I went here after a long day of work and I was thinking why not? I'm feeling chinese today and drive as this was the closest in my area as well as open. It was nearly empty, i saw one customer siting in there and showed my card (covid) that i wanted to dine in. And they seated me on a booth. Now, im not picky at service and i have a lot of patience, due to my background, yet this is a family owned restaurant. Personally everybody has their own standards of what is considered polite and whatnot, but they were taking my order and that's what mattered. If you are a stickler for how people should act in their own restaurant, i wouldnt recommend you their services. Overall i ordered the lunch special, kung pao chicken, and got my full order in 10-15 mins. Comes with hot n sour soup, honey salad with peanuts (mmmmmm love them) and steamed rice with fried wontons. (Note that you can also order fried rice, they mentioned) they got my order correct. Appetizers were good, love the soup and the salad, because you can never mess up simplicity. As for the kung pao, I was curious as why it wasnt spicy and looked at the menu. Apparently, this restaurant is a non MSG establishment and recollected that with restaurant such as these, you must specify to your order that you want it spicy. I wasnt too bothered by it, more over it was actually good for me, because i have heart inflammation problems with too much salt. Now i want to get to the vegetables. Perfectly fresh! I been to many before and i had some where the vegetables have a dull and unfresh taste to them. This was not the problem here as they were great and can taste the vegetables for what they are truly are. Finished with the meal, I received the check fast, i didnt ask for it yet, but they did say i could take some time and the bill was $12 Overall, if you are looking for good fresh lightly or unsalted food and you dont mind how strange the customer service can be, this would be a good place! 10/10
Really good food . Tell them the ginger man sent you. They will even change the food a bit. As of April 24th I see they have indoor dining again. Today lunch for me was the Wor Won Ton soup. I have had it many times because it is so good. You’d be hard pressed to find a better one.
Great food! Lunch specials were fast and only $8 or $9 for large portions. Nice service and atmosphere. Loved the twice cooked pork and chicken with black mushrooms.
Authentic home style Chinese food in a relaxing casual atmosphere. We are locals and usually order a mix of sizzling rice soup, pork belly, soy sauce fish fillet, chicken fried rice, and/or crispy chow mien. Lots of variety served fresh and reasonably priced. Recommend.
We had an event for 100 people and China Moon came through with flying colors. We couldn't have been more pleased working with the owner Ben. He helped us select a menu to satisfy our guests, including many vegetarians and knew which entrees would hold up well in chafing dishes for a few hours. He was very generous with the portions of each party pan and also included soy sauce packets and fortune cookies. Our guests raved about how delicious the food was and the variety of entrees. China Moon's prices were very reasonable too. He even accommodated our morning pick-up time which was well before the restaurant opened at 11 a.m. They don't offer delivery service but with their help, it was easy to pick up and pack the food trays in our car. The next time we want to cater Chinese food for an event, we'll return to China Moon!
Been going there for decades with my family. It’s family owned with big portions and reasonable prices. My favorite Chinese restaurant in the East Bay, and best place to get salt and pepper tofu (just ask, not on the menu)!
Love their special eggplant dish and sea food clay pot. Excellent hot and sour soup. We order fried beans with pork in a black bean sauce that is not on the menu. Broccoli beef is tender.
I grew up going to China Moon regularly for family gatherings, celebrations, or just a weekend lunch, and now that I live far away, I always make a stop whenever I’m in town. I always order their walnut prawns and salt-and-pepper pork chops, but everything on their menu is delicious and fresh! Super reasonable lunch menu and great portions.
This is a shockingly high-quality Chinese place for Moraga. It's also decently priced. For simple take-sway style/quality Chinese at reasonable prices, look no further if you are in the area.

The pork was nice also the garlic bean sprouts was super flavorful!
Yes. 95% of the time, I’m a happy camper! There’s been a few slight hiccups here and there but I appreciate this spot.

Great food, great service! For several years we probably ate here or ordered out from here weekly. We especially loved the pot stickers, until they changed them about a year ago. Wish they would go back to the old ones.

Dear Management, I am writing to report a very uncomfortable situation I experienced during my recent visit to your restaurant. My daughter’s meal arrived almost 10 minutes after mine, which was already inconvenient. However, the main issue occurred when I asked for the bill. The server pressured me to add the tip before even allowing me to pay and stood at my table insisting on a specific amount. This behavior was inappropriate and made me feel uncomfortable and disrespected. I want to be very clear: had I not been pressured, I would have left the appropriate tip as I always do. It was the server’s insistence and attitude that caused me to reduce the amount. I fully understand that tipping is customary, but it must be voluntary—not demanded or forced. I hope you address this issue so other customers do not have to experience the same situation. Thank you for your attention. She was a female waitress on November 22, 2025
