Dear Opal Management, This past visit was our first time dining at your establishment, and we wanted to share our wonderful experience. We began our meal with the oysters on the half shell and the charcuterie board, both of which were incredibly delicious. Our entire family thoroughly enjoyed their entrees, finding everything to be cooked to absolute perfection. Additionally, our waitress, who mentioned she was from Romania, provided a level of delightful service that is truly rare these days. We will certainly be returning to Opal soon to explore more of your delicious menu! Sincerely, Chuck
First time at Opal. Will definitely be back! Our table ordered the muscles in the garlic broth, the meatballs, and the mozzarella. Everything, including the bread that was fresh out of the oven, was fantastic! Then our steak and pasta arrived and outperformed the appetizers! (The steak in the picture is a split entree.). Even the apples in the white Sangria were fresh and flavorful! Our waitress said she’d been there 12 years. That in itself says a lot.
Skilled, knowledgeable waitstaff. Well-prepared dishes served in an artistic manner. Nice list of inventive cocktails. The atmosphere is a nice blend of neighborhood restaurant meets upscale dining. The accoustics made it difficult to carry on a quiet conversation though.
Was very impressed with Opal! Charcuterie board was excellent and is a something they do very well. Steaks that were order were delicious (they were both cooked a little less than they should have been as ordered). Overall, a great experience. Will be back again for sure!
Honestly one of the better restaurants in Charleston not just Mount Pleasant. I have had just about everything on their menu over the years and have enjoyed it all. If you’re staying on Isle of Palms for vacation this is a great little place to go that’s not too far from your Beachhouse.
Wow. I can close my eyes and taste the buttery grouper that melts in your mouth with an explosion of flavor. (Local market fish over corn, jumbo lump crab...see the menu under Entrees, so fresh-so delicious! ). They had a asparagus soup of the day, which you don't want to pass up if you like soup. We shared the arugula strawberry salad, with goat cheese-it was devoured! Main Entrees exceeded expectation. Dessert Gelato, we had half sizes of servings, coconut (kinda sweet), chocolate raspberry (also a little sweet), the espero dark chocolate gelato- hit the spot. Love the clean ocean themed atmosphere. Our server, Florina, was outstanding- professionals, warm, knowledge and hospitable. We will be back, thank you.
Came for the charcuterie and it did not disappoint. I also ordered the duck and crème brûlée. Everything was extremely flavorful, Opal is a hidden gem. Wish there were more nonalcoholic mocktails on the menu, but the two were nice.
Absolutely delicious! Emma and Caroline were very welcoming at the door. We were seated at a table and asked to move to a booth. Emma was very gracious to make the switch. We started with the shellfish soup. It was like velvety butter and dreamy. For our mains we had the filet and the fish of the day. The filet was the best I’ve ever had. Cooked to perfection and those whipped potatoes!!!!! The fish was local grouper served over rice pirloo with corn and a tarragon sauce…. My mouth is still watering. Our server made the experience. Florina was knowledgeable and lovely. FIVE stars all the way around! Thank you

Took my daughter here for her birthday as none of us had been here before. Service was great and we all enjoyed the salads, mozzarella and the two pasta dishes we ordered. Looking forward to our next visit!
We came here after a phenomenal experience at Patrick's other restaurant Langdon's, and this place is just as good. The shrimp bisque they had on special is the best seafood bisque I've ever had in my life.. and I grew up on the Gulf Coast eating Louisiana cuisine over half my life. Their steaks and duck are perfection.
Always a great experience here. I've never had a bad dinner at Opal, and it's my favorite place to eat in the Charleston area.
I had a wonderful dinner with my girls and boyfriend here saturday night food was amazing. The market fish dish was 10/10 and the service was perfect! Our server was so nice and gave us places to visit as we were on vacation. The restaurant was very nice and clean, and it was calm and very professional. 100% recommend going here for a nice dinner.
Remarkably consistent, in the best way. Pastas and risottos are always great. Charcuterie board excellent. Wine list has good value. Staff is amazing. It's our family local go-to for every celebration because of the staff. They feel like a part of us.
Jennifer at the bar was amazing. We enjoyed happy hour! Dinner was so good! This is a must try! You will love. Get there early for happy hour and make a reservation early. It is a small place and fills up quickly! Wood and Grain was equally as good. The hostess Julia and host Butch were so friendly. I cant remember out waitress at Opal but we loved her! The food is amazing!
Very good, great food we sat at the bar with Flora as our server. She was kind and more than efficient. We will definitely be back. The oysters were totally an unexpected treat, and the charcuterie board with meat and cheese was awesome...local honey (yummy)
My favorite restaurant in Mount Pleasant. Rivals some of the better restaurants downtown. The entree portions are filling and the food is top notch. Always have great service too! Menu has been pretty consistent for many years, would like to see them branch out a bit more.
I ordered Steak! It was awesome! compliments to the chef. The service was outstanding! Atmosphere outstanding!!! I wish I took pictures!!!
We had a fabulous meal with the family last night. We were all super impressed- food tasted delicious- service was excellent - our server Blair ? Was great. It was quiet, unobtrusive, attentive service at its best. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant.
We had a wonderful meal here with truly excellent service and food. The wine list was curated well with several diverse options. Our highlights of the night were the littleneck clams, fresh (local) oysters and the charcuterie board. The pasta sauces were perfectly balanced and delicious. The dessert we had with espresso really made for a beautiful finish. Definitely visit here with family or a date night if you’re in the area!
Once again, we had a fantastic date night at Opal. The oysters on the half shell were perfection! We also thoroughly enjoyed the steak tartar and veal meatballs! And the service was excellent as usual!
I just have to share as a local in Mt P that this is truly one of the best spots we have found. We are mad it has taken us so long to visit this place! The service, the menu, the FOOD! Incredible. We were taken care of - thoughtful service. The food was so flavorful and HOT. Exactly how it should be. Highly recommend. We will be regulars!

Loved this restaurant a decade ago. But due to life changes, I had forgotten about it. My wife and I trued it again about 6 months ago just to try something new. We loved it. The filet rivals the downtown steak places. We are very happy we have become reacquainted with Opal. We take friends and family there all the time.
We celebrated our anniversary over dinner. We had a reservation and were given a quiet table overlooking the square. Bree was an outstanding server and had great recommendations. My wife had the tagliatelle Bolognese and I had the tagliatelle duck confit special and both were excellent. The arugula peach salad was special. As a treat from the restaurant we were served gelato for dessert. They have an outstanding wine list and we enjoyed a bottle of the Rombauer Chardonnay. Highly recommend this spot!
Food was great had the fish over Carolina gold rise with whatever they added to it to make it creamy great meal overall
Opal Restaurant and Bar in Charleston is an absolute gem! Their happy hour was amazing- the oysters were fresh and flavorful, the boards were beautifully curated with delicious selections, and the prosecco was crisp and refreshing. The ambiance is perfect for a relaxed evening, and the service was outstanding. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure we had a fantastic experience. Whether you're in the mood for great seafood, a well-crafted charcuterie board, or just a perfect glass of bubbly, Opal is the place to be. Highly recommend and can't wait to return
It was my first time at Opal. It was my cousin's birthday and that is where she wanted to go. They frequent there. I don't remember server's name, but he was awesome. The charcuterie was server's choice and he did mot disappoint. I had cavetelli and veal meatballs - yummy. The lemon creme brulle was so light and also excellent. I will go back with my husband next time.
Chelsea was our server tonight and she was amazing! The food was outstanding. We got some charcuterie & the red dragon cheese was a big highlight. The chicken breast dinner was better than any chicken breast I’ve ever had. The carmelized Brussels sprouts were A+. My husband had the center cut steak & it was amazing as well. The duck breast was great. My daughter had some plain buttered pasta and even that was awesome. For dessert we had the pot de creme & almond cake with black cherry gelato, again outstanding. Dinner at opal was one of the best dinners I’ve had in a long time! It was also easy to find & easy to park.
The roasted chicken with Brussels sprouts and lemon potato was EXCELLENT! Moist and flavorful! Excellent service, very efficient and friendly. The menu selection isn't huge but, everything that we had was cooked perfectly.
Great Italian Mediterranean restaurant with a wonderful Happy Hour. Very nice customizable Charcuterie options. Freshly sliced meats and cheeses. Service was above average. My steak was perfectly cooked. Above average cocktail program. Reservations are recommended
We have been there a couple times. Great atmosphere, the food is very good. I had the chicken last night. Crispy skin, juicy on the inside. The potatoes and Brussel sprouts were amazing.
Food was delicious, salad was amazing. The pasta is homemade and blended with the sauce nicely. The meatballs were wonderful and the portions were large. Took some time to prepare but well worth it.
The duck was pretty dang good. The server didn’t tell me the specials, but I also didn’t ask. Overall a positive experience. I would go back after performing a cost benefit analysis. Enjoy the phone eats first.
Very good food served in a timely manner. Loved the crab salad and the steak. Sadly due to staffing issues you could not order pasta,charcuterie,or oysters. The waiter was okay m, not very attentive… I think he was bummed we were not drinking alcohol lol. Def check this place out. I can’t wait to try a charcuterie.
Lovely meal. Soup of the day (a seafood bisque) was delicious. Pasta was good. (Nice flavors but the sauce was thin). Really good bread and olive oil.
Cozy atmosphere with Mediterranean accents. Dinner was excellent although some entrees can be expensive if you're looking for comfort items. Ample wine selection from different producing regions. Lamb special was superbly cooked!
The food was delicious, but you're better off paying cash here to avoid a 3.50% CC fee & tax was 10% btw.
Very good oysters and service. I ordered the duck medium rare, when it was served, it was well done. My server apologized and said she'd have it re-done. She also brought out another half dozen oysters no charge, very good move. The second came out perfectly cooked, but the sauce almost ruined it. Over all great though.
Food was excellent and served hot. But our server was slow. I have worked as a fine dining server for over 37 years and we felt unattended. It was my birthday and our server somehow felt that I was supposed to pay(because I'm the man?). My wife waited over 20 minutes to pay for our dinner. The time between our apps and dinners was too long. We will return, but we'll have someone else serve us. I will not put our server's name on front street, unless I'm asked. Finally, after we ate our appetizers and we were ready to order dinner, we were informed of an appetizer special that we both were interested in eating. Why didn't our server inform us of this special as we were ordering our appetizers?
Great food and friendly and helpful staff. One of the better restaurants I’ve been too in the last year. Would recommend. EDIT: I’ve been dining at this restaurant with my wife for years. The food and service has always been fantastic. Tonight, we came out with a party of 5 plus a toddler. We sat for a 6:30 reservation. Our waiter, who seemed like a fine waiter, was overburdened by waiting too many tables and came to take our order 45 minutes after we sat. After waiting another 45 minutes for our food to come, my wife and toddler left to go home and go to bed, with the food seemingly never coming. After they left, I ran into our waiter, who told me that it was normal for a restaurant of this type to take so long. I explained to him that I had been coming here for years and never had run into this issue prior. I spoke to the manager, Paul, who told me that there was a glitch in the ordering software and their system had “doubled all of the tickets”. we revived our bill with no comps. Needless to say, it will be a while before we come back, if ever. Very disappointed tonight in this restaurant and its management.
Our visit started on a sour note. It got better, but we expected better based on recommendations from friends. The sour was the hostess. We arrived 15 mins early and checked in. When reserving we’d requested a booth because my father is hard of hearing and booths help him be able to engage in conversation. We were verbally told it wouldn’t be a problem. When arriving the hostess told us our table wasn’t ready, but should be on time. We said we’d go for a short walk and return and she said no problem. When we returned on time our booth had cleared, but another party had been sat in the booth. When I asked why we weren’t given the booth the same hostess now said they save them for parties five and larger. She completely denied she’d told me differently. Mistakes happen, but rather than admit it she chose to lie. In addition a couple parties of three were given booths during the course of our meal. We accepted a table and the service was very good. Three out of four of us really enjoyed our dinners. We had salads, two pasta entrees, a chicken entree and a steak. The person having the steak didn’t care for the searing which they said tasted burned, but once cut away it was good. We also sent back a shrimp bisque that was delivered cold. Portion size were reasonable. Wine was good. It’s not an inexpensive place, but the value was mostly there.
Happy Hour food and drink were very good. Happy Hour is in the bar area, where there are only bar stools and an elevated table and chairs. I pointed out that the set up was not acceptable and did not meet ADA requirements. I use a walker and cannot climb up on the high chairs.The hostess grabbed a very small table and 2 chairs from behind the hostess stand and said, " Here's our ADA".
We have been walking past this place for a few years and decided to try it for a recent special occasion. First off, the service was wonderful, they have a younger staff and they were on their game, our server rattled off the many specials without even looking at any notes which was impressive. Sad to say the actual food and atmosphere did not match. When we walked in we were surprised since the outside gives off upscale and romantic and the inside is giving chain restaurant with mediocre decor. It was also very bright and loud so not the vibe we were looking for. We got the mozzarella appetizer which was a great start however both our entrees were very salty and drenched in sauces, my dish included brussels sprouts and you could not even tell what they were since there was way too much aioli all over them. For the price we expected more.

Walked in for a after dinner drinks. There was no one at the host stand. My mother in law, wife and I walked over to the bar to order drinks. The bartender was great, but unfortunately there was no open seats. Two seats opened up a across from the bar at a high top next to two people and we asked to sit with them. They said yes. At that point, the hostess who had dark curly hair came over and was extremely rude asking if we had reservations. We said we came in for drinks, she said this is for customers with reservations. There was no signs on the table. She made us feel very uncomfortable to the point that we felt we should leave. Very disappointed because we would've stayed for more drinks.
1st time I went here was great so when my relatives visiting from out of state came I took them back. Overall the food was good however, our server ruined the experience. The service was the WORST experienced we ever had. She made it like we can’t afford to dine there just because we didn’t order drinks and few appetizers. Will not return nor recommend this place to anybody.
The 3 meals we ate at the restaurant were delicious. The issues was, the 4th meal we brought home to my 93 year old mother was burnt! My sister-in-law had the salmon, it was excellent. Ordered the same meal to go. Got home, saw it and it was absolutely awful, burnt to a crisp, looks like someone tried to scrape of the burnt part. Anyway, had to call them up get it remade, drive all the way back to pick up the new meal. Then drive all the way back home again and I was exhausted to begin with. Not the way I wanted to end my day. So I got, I’m so sorry from the staff. Personally, I feel when you make that kind of mistake and you as a chef and the person that boxed it up absolutely knew it shouldn’t have been sent out, the restaurant should have refunded that meal or offered a free dessert. Neither was done or offered. It’s irritating that I’m the one that had to go out of my way for their mistake. It’s not like I went to McDonald’s and they messed up. In the future I will be checking every to go order from them. It’s the 3rd screw up they’ve made with us. 🙁
