Food was really yum and authentic. Very authentic kothu parotta and I have a high bar coming from Madurai. The full meals was also really good.
This seems to be the most authentic of all the Tamil restaurants i have tried in the south Bay area. The kothu parotta and the fish varuval were really good. Overall i would say it was worth the price.
Loved the food — truly authentic Madurai-style cuisine. We had the mutton biriyani, chicken kothu porotta, and Kari dosa, and every bite took me back to my hometown. Even our 3-year-old enjoyed the meal! The owner was incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He even prepared a refreshing lemon nanari sarbath (a traditional Tamil Nadu drink) especially for us. Thank you for the wonderful food and excellent service. We will definitely be back!
Annachi Kadai in Mountain View is a great place for authentic South Indian food with excellent taste and quality. The food feels very homely and truly reflects Tamil Nadu style cooking. Their meals, dosas, and curries are all fresh and flavorful. They also offer a good variety of biryanis, including thalapakattu Chicken Biryani, Mutton Biryani, Egg Biryani, and Veg Biryani, gilma briyani, boneless briyani, The biryanis are aromatic, well cooked, and served in good portions with tasty sides. The staff are friendly and service is quick. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, and prices are reasonable for the quality of food. Highly recommended for anyone looking for genuine South Indian cuisine in the Bay Area. Will definitely visit again!
We had planned to visit Mylapore, but we left without being seated because we felt the team there didn’t seem to care about the customers as much. I’m glad we went to this one instead. The food was great, and the staff was awesome. Next time, this is the first choice.
Annachikadai is an absolute gem! Rajesh runs this place with so much passion, and it truly shows in both the food and the service. Every dish tastes authentic, fresh, and full of flavor it feels like a homemade meal made with love. Rajesh is warm, welcoming, and always goes the extra mile to make sure guests are taken care of. If you’re looking for genuine hospitality and delicious food that hits the spot every time, Annachikadai is the place to be. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a memorable dining experience!
This place was fantastic. This was some of the best Indian food I've ever had. We ordered the non-veg ilai virunthu and the mysore dosa to split, along with the onion pakora and a mango lassi. For two hungry guys it was the right amount of food, if not slightly too much which is not a bad problem to have haha. The staff were super friendly and easy going too. Their credit card reader broke while we were there and they were super chill about it and were willing to discount the meal, and were patient while we went to run and grab some cash. I loved everything we had, and I think next time I'd try the onion dosa instead of the mysore dosa. We'll definitely be coming back here sometime!
Food was really nice, specially Dum mutton and chicken biryani I seeraga samba rice is awesome it take us to our native style of taste and everyone should taste parotta with idicha chicken here, it's top notch. All menus are good cooked by our south Indian chef's. Serving also nice.. Good staffs and overall it's a beautiful southnindian restaurant.. All should try at once...
*Love the food! Love the service!!* We had ordered catered meal for 125 people for lunch from Annachi Kadai (non-veg) and Star Udipi Cafe (veg) for an event at my house. Every food item was delicious -- the flavors, the taste, the colors were all so inviting! people came back for seconds and thirds. We had food left over at the lunch because we had ordered a bit more to be on the safer side. But the food was so popular -- our guests packed the remaining food in small containers and took it home for their dinner! =) The food was delivered sharp at 12 noon, like we requested. Actually they came 10 mins early and waited for us -- we were the ones running late. All the hot food items was piping hot and freshly made. The management worked with us to figure out the menu that would suit our guest profile and the right quantity of food to order with an aim to reduce food waste and keep costs within budget. The staff was attentive to our needs to our special instructions. They're awesome to work with, professional, polite and courteous! I would definitely recommend you order your food from Annachi Kadai and Star Udipi Cafe for your next event! Even if you have your go-to-place for catering, give them a try! =)
Pretty solid South Indian spot with a fair amount of indoor / outdoor seating and right off el Camino real. We came here and tried the paniyaram / chutney, idli sambar, kothu, idiyappam/coconut milk, and paratha/kurma. Delicious food, not too spicy, freshly made, and decent portions. It is a casual, self serve restaurant, so don't expect much in the way of service, but definitely come for the food!
I wouldn't lie - the place definitely feels homely. Very simple place with lot of authenticity and local home vibes - I felt that too even though I am not from Chennai or south india. The ambience is average and service is average too. We had to ask for glasses for water, also needed to ask to refill the water. When we had finished with appetizer, in general the server will remove from table what you are done with - but here it just felt like plates are accumulating. No one to take away that. If the restaurant is busy I can understand that but when we ate - we were practically the only one there. So it wasn't the manpower problem - it is just a service problem. Coming to food. Pomfret was super good. Really well done. Briyani was a meh - I don't feel Bay Area has best briyani's anyways. I have had better Briyani in places like Seattle, Raleigh and Phoenix. The chicken 65 in Briyani though was pretty good - the typical Chennai style chicken 65 dyed with food colors 😂. It was super nice of them to prepare filter coffee for us although it wasn't in the menu. Coffee was decent. The veg thali was also about okay. I didn't tried it but my friend did and that was his review. Their special goat briyani was decent at best - I was hyped up about it but to me.it didn't live up to the expectations.
A small cosy South Indian restaurant. Serves really nice food. Lot variety in the menu. Situated on El camino real. It has outside seating also. Service is very prompt. Staff is very friendly and polite. Would recommend this if you are craving for Indian food. Moderately priced.
We encountered several issues during our visit. The premises were notably untidy, and the restroom facilities had an unpleasant odor, with the sink experiencing drainage problems. The service was unsatisfactory, lacking a welcoming approach, and we were required to place our orders without staff assistance. Furthermore, the food, specifically the anchovy fry, biryani, and fish fry, was unappetizing and appeared to be stale.
This place used to be fire but it appears the flame has gone out. Anyone who serves a biryani entree with only two pieces of chicken has immediately lost my respect. Dining room had a bad stench also.
I came here with my family just to get disappointed, They served me spoiled mutton curry it looked good, but it was not fresh at all. The dosa was very thin and not edible, with no taste. Hand wash was under maintenance, so I had to go inside the toilet to wash my hands, which is very uncomfortable. Service was okay, not bad. But the food quality is absolutely terrible. Very disappointing experience
I ordered biryani for pickup from this restaurant, and my experience was extremely disappointing. When I went to pick up my order (around $50), they told me they did not have change for a $100 bill and said they accept only card payments. What made the situation worse is that they didn’t even try to find change or offer any alternative solution. They simply told me “no” and asked me to cancel the order. On top of that, they didn’t even say sorry for the inconvenience. Because of this, my one full hour was wasted. I drove a long distance just to pick up the food and came back empty-handed. This was extremely frustrating and unprofessional. This is honestly one of my worst experiences with an Indian restaurant. Better communication and basic customer service could have easily avoided this situation. I would not recommend this place based on my experience.
