Great japanese food. Had the soup, steak udon and duck were great. will definitely go again. we'll worth it. they dont take reservations but you can find them on yelp and sign up as walk in. if not expect up to an hour wait. no sushi.
Seating: Some seats are traditional sunken seats where it requires taking shoes off. Mostly for large groups (5 or more) but there are also small group seats like this. There’s no cushion and it’s all hard wood. It’s not very comfortable after sitting for 30 min. Food: Great, everything we had was delicious. Wide variety of dishes in the menu. - Unagi meshi ❤️: all time favorite, best for large groups - cheese pizzas ❤️: I like the yakiniku kochijan pizza more than the Mentaiko one. But both are good, with full mouth of melted cheese on top 🤤 - grilled beef tongue (gyutan shioyaki): tenderness is inconsistent by plate, we still liked it but some pieces are a bit chewy… - hotate ikura carpaccio: pretty good! - tako salad: good - Curry beef tongue (forgot the name on menu. It was either new or special): it beef tongue cubes? I couldn’t taste the beef tongue in this dish. Curry is just regular Japanese curry flavor. I think it’s just ok. - tori kara age (fried chicken): flavor is good but the outer crust is a bit thick - Wafu Caesar salad: nothing special about this salad, unless you love caesar sauce Service: Great, takes out empty plates timely and attentive service :) Atmosphere: Lively, moderate noise
We stumbled upon Gochi by accident and was so lucky to get seated right away even without the reservation. We were told that usually without the reservation the wait could be long. We had mixed tempura and garlic green salad for starters and both were great. For the main course, we had a sashimi omawase and a pan saute black cod, and we were not disappointed. They both were really good. For the dessert we had some ice cream and green tea creme brule were good as well. Overall, it's a type of food that made you feel good after eating. Not just yummy but also feel good like you give fresh, nutritious food to yourself.
10/10 experience!! Folks were really friendly, smiley and super helpful. If it is your first time there, ask them for recommendations! I ordered 3 of their recommendations and it was really good. The quality of the food is solid. There are like so many items that I wanted to try but I don’t want to stuff myself. So you bet I am heading back here again! It may be a lil pricey for some but I believe it is worth it!
4.5/5 – Listed in order of my personal preference: 🍣 Sake Sashimi – The salmon is incredibly fresh with a smooth, almost jelly-like texture. Loved it. 🥗 Sakana Iroiro Salad – A nice Asian-fusion poke-style dish. The greens are especially flavorful, thanks to the creamy dressing. 🍚 Buta Meshi – Rich and tasty overall, though nothing particularly special. I’ve had Unagi before and found that more to my liking. 🍣 Hamachi Carpaccio – It’s definitely fresh and worth trying, though the flavor just didn’t click with me. Others might enjoy it more. 🍖 Gyutan Shioyaki – Very tough and hard to chew. Honestly not sure how people manage to eat it. I’ve seen many recommendations to its pizza. Would probably try next time!
Been here a few times, and my family and I like this place! It’s pricey but the foods are really good! I usually don’t like meat, but I like the grilled beef tongue here! Really juicy and fresh! We like the salad a lot and ordered twice a night! The fishes are good and fresh. Just be aware that there’s an extra charge for bringing a cake here. But the fee is reasonable and they offer great service! Recommend for group meals! The only shortcoming is - we don’t like the Japanese table setting: it’s not good for elder people since we can’t stretch our legs like a normal seats. But it shouldn’t be a problem for young people.
One of my favorite restaurants in the Bay; can’t believe how good the food is. Came here the first time 3 years ago and had been craving it since - today did not disappoint! Especially loved the claypot rice! Note that you definitely want a reservation and will also only have 90 minutes for the reservation. The food came out pretty fast though so that wasn’t an issue for us.
Came here on a Saturday night with a reservation for a date and this was a super cool unique experience! We got tatami seats which made it that much more fun of an experience. Good: The service here is lightning fast! We'd place an order online, and get it like 5 minutes later - it's incredible. I really liked the unagi kaarage - it was so much flavor in one bite! Surprisingly filling. I also liked the hamachi a ton and the fish was so fresh. Definitely recommend. Finally I really liked the pizzas here, I've never had pizza that was super asian before, so was a unique taste. Bad: The portion sizes are smaller for the price, but if you're prepared to spend, it's perfect. I thought that the crispy claypot with pork didn't have that much flavor really and I think that it's just like a result of the other dishes having so so much flavor that this didn't stand out as much even though it was still good! The croquettes weren't that stellar either, though the curry taste was pretty unique. -------- Overall, really enjoyed the experience and I think that I'd come again!
Excellent Japanese fusion tapas concept. Draws ideas and ingredients from Chinese, Korean, and worldwide cuisine to create a mix of inventive Japanese dishes. We love getting the Mentaiko Pizza, several of the Clay Pots, and some other tapas. Salad was also fresh and delicious. Service was super prompt.

The atmosphere and service are generally excellent. The quality of food is mostly solid. I can recommend the unagi meshi (small/medium size) and fusion pizzas. The small bites are also largely satisfying, if a bit rich. I would not recommend the udon, which is unremarkable unless you prefer a more bland flavor. Please note that for the popular meshi (clay pot) dishes, the ingredients do not scale up proportionately with the dish sizes (small, medium, large). For example, when we order the large unagi meshi, there is proportionally less unagi and pickled vegetable than in the medium meshi. It feels like we are essentially just paying for more rice. Order the medium or small for optimal flavor.
Decent spot but would recommend having few people to share the dishes with so you can try more things. They have a good selection of items to pick from. The pizza crust was very tasty but it lack fillings. Claypot was a decent size but the pork was a bit too tender. We also got the beef rolls but we didn’t enjoy it as much as it was very overcooked and had a weird texture.
Great vibe with authentic look to the restaurant, props to the comic books and sake bottles at the start of the front of the restaurant. The food selection was great, really enjoyed the scallops & squid. The chicken was a bit overcooked and a bit too much batter. Super weird that so many restaurants in the area close early but fyi kitchen closes at 8:30pm mid week.
Great menu. We ordered a lot, portions are larger than you'd think. Expensive ($$$$). The clay pot are a must. Starters are distracting in a good way. :-) The service was good, but you have to order on your phone so the experience that leads to decent tipping is lost. I understand about COVID but it's time to make dining more personal again.
The salad was my favorite, and the ribeye was quite good. My friends really enjoyed the meal, but for me the salmon sauce was a bit too strong, the pork belly wasn’t as tender as I had hoped, and the crispy bottom of the clay pot rice was a little too chewy. Overall, there were some nice highlights, but not everything matched my personal preferences.
Make sure to get a reservation. This restaurant is popular and walk in would take 30 to 45 minutes to get a table. Food is so so. More on the salty and greasy side. The pizza is pretty much all cheese, chicken eggplant is too salty, clay plot rice has too much rice and not enough fish. Miso soup is very good tho. Not cheap, but a good atmosphere.
This use to be my favorite Japanese restaurant in the area. It was the go to choice for our birthday celebration, good time with friends, or treating someone for a business lunch. I didn't go for a 6 months or so and was very disappointed. The food quality was borderline acceptable. Hamachi kama was overcooked, shrimp tempura dry sticks. Etc. and the staff forced us out at 9 sharp because they wanted to close. I won't go back.
