Had a great meal. Shanice was our waitress and she was amazing. They have a great wine list, literally over a 1000 options. The food was great. The best part is that my wife has many allergies and when I made our reservation I made mention of these and they had them prepped, relayed them to us and were able to her modify dinner and did a great job the whole time making sure that we knew they were aware of the allergies.
The food here was good but let me tell you about this salad! Don’t miss out on the best dish you’ll ever put in your mouth. The kale and cabbage salad! Despite the very unassuming name, it was the best salad I’ve ever had in my whole life and I would go back to Nantucket just for this (I wouldn’t split with my husband next time). Just trust me and get it! Still thinking about it days later.
We took the 5:00 pm ride on the Wauvinet Lady from the White Elephant in town to the Wauvinet Hotel. We were told that this was the last ride of the season. The boat was fairly basic and small. We expected something with a little more character. We were a little packed in. Some folks had rain jackets on and that was the right call since during the ride there were a few times when we got splashed by salty water. The captain pulled a canopy in the front of the boat and that helped. I would not wear one's finest as my jacket got smudged at a few places while on the little boat. Our dinner was at 6:00 pm. We requested to be seated under the awnings where the heaters kept us warm. We chose to have the following appetizers- The day boat scallops - 5/5 Probably one of the best scallops we have had. Well prepared, plopped on a decadent corn bisque, and topped with miso sauce. Absolutely delicious. The asparagus ravioli - 4/5 Looked great. Taste was good too. But expected it to lean more towards the asparagus, where was the dish was actually leaning more towards ricotta ravioli. For the entrees we had - Lobster - 3/5 Good but not great Sea bass - 5/5. Very well done. Crispy skin, with soft flesh. The bean minestrone (more like a brodo) was wonderful. For desert we had - Peach pavlova - 5/5 very delicious Chocolate desert - 3/5 Good, but not great Most of the food not only tasted well, the way they were presented would rival the looks of dishes at restaurants that posses 2-3 Michelin stars. Dennis, the Somm, helped us select a lesser known bottle of white wine from the basque region which was lovely. David the manager was very nice and attentive. Our server was lovely as well. Once the sun set, the sky was ablaze in a sockeye salmon red. We left our table a few times to take pictures by the water with that amazing sky in the background.Overall, we had an amazing experience. We eschewed the return boat ride and just took a ride back to town. During our next visit to the island we will definitely dine here, but perhaps skip the boat ride.
Toppers was delicious. Apologies for all the half eaten food pictures, but we all just dove right in once we were served. Burger was perfectly cooked The crab & lobster cakes super tasty The pizza might have only been a 4/5 but still a solid option. Table bread is homemade and did not disappoint
Food was good but not great. The service was incredible. Our lead server, Adam, and his crew could not have been more attentive. The facilities and the grounds are beautiful. Perfect sunset on the harbor on a chilly August evening. If you are seated inside it’s a fixed three-course menu. If you are seated outside on the porch they offer an alternative more casual deck menu. The cellular service in the area is spotty at best so plan ahead if you use Uber.
Amazing .. food service and staff. Dave is wonderful always very accommodating. Whether you’re eating inside or on the deck it’s just a beautiful spot to be.
Can’t think of more romantic and beautiful restaurant on the island. We came here for my bf’s Bday and we really had the best dinner in years! Wonderful space and delicious food followed by impeccable service. Also, I have to mention a breathtaking sunset
Went here for dinner. We had a 615 pm reservation and seated precisely on time. The service was perfectly timed and allowed us the space to converse while still being very well attended to. We did the chef's menu, which was a fantastic experience. Their wine selection was on point. The dessert choices were also well paired with our dinner.
Highly recommended and worth the trip! The restaurant was fully booked for lunch and dinner so we opted for breakfast. The property is absolutely gorgeous. Perfectly manicured property in a seclude private part of the island with a boat that takes you into town. The food was top notch even though it was just breakfast. After your meal, take a walk to the dock/beach.
This place was INCREDIBLE!!! The food and service were excellent. Well worth the money. Great view. Great wine too! Our sommelier Dennis was so friendly and helpful and really fun to talk to. I wish I could remember the name of our server, he was great!!!! Everything about this meal was perfect. The smoked bluefish pâté is a MUST have.
A beautiful setting with a menu delightful to the taste buds. The Toppers burger was the ideal burger I try to make constantly; they nailed it! A wagyu beef patty with Vermont cheese, hickory smoked bacon, and a burst of caramelized onions. While the rest of the party all had the classic lobster roll that looked plumped and amazing, I just had to go with their signature burger. Will absolutely be back for many visits while on the island.
Idk where to start!Had an amazing experience for my birthday! Scallops with caviar and truffle risotto as an appetizer, followd by Halibut and Lamb. Everything was prepared perfectly. Food was 5 stars, service even better!!
For those with the budget, this might be the best place on the island for a special dinner to celebrate your trip, anniversary, birthday, a recent business success or simply enjoy a top notch meal with even better drink selections. Their entire menu would be recommended, we covered most of it and got to share a taste of each other’s dishes and I can happily recommend any of them. As for drinks, well, they’ll have whatever floats your boat! My photography doesn’t do it justice at all, but photos weren’t the reason for coming here anyways. Enjoy the dishes, Caesar was a great host, my compliments to the chef and staff.
Incredible restaurant overlooking a beautiful area of ACK. Reservations are in high demand so make sure you set these up early. I highly recommend getting dinner right around sunset on the exterior deck!
We thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary dinner at Toppers! Their caviar appetizer was out of this world, and our Wagyu and chicken main dishes were cooked to perfection! Our server, Alex, took excellent care of us and the manager/sommelier Jason had wonderful recommendations for wine pairings. As a special treat, Alex surprised us with the most delicious desserts! Amazing food and outstanding service!
Best accessed by boat. First rate food and service. Cannot beat the location
Had a nice lunch on the patio (deck menu) at Toppers at the Wauwinet Hotel which accommodated our large party well. We shared the Black Pepper Garganelli and Spaghetti "Carbonara", both exceptional. The grounds and location are amazing, right at the base of Great Point. Will definitely return.
Lovely ambiance and phenomenal food. Fresh oysters are grown 300 yards from the restaurant. I would visit again in a heartbeat if I was on Nantucket. Meals reflect the abundance of each season and are well balanced.
Food was great and beautifully presented, large wine menu, good service, intimate atsmosphere.the chef gave us complimentary bites of different dishes and deserts as well
One of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Everything from the location to the staff to every morsel eaten were outstanding. Arrive a little early on the free shuttle jitney service from Town, order a cocktail from the bar, then enjoy the view from the garden of the sun setting over the bay. You can choose between the less formal patio or the incredible dining room where every dish is presented beautifully. There are a later carte and Prix fixe options to please everyone. I cannot recommend this place enough for a memorable Nantucket evening. Thanks to everyone at Toppers and The Wauwinet.
Very beautiful restaurant! The service was great and the view as well. The food was very good! Definitely recommend
The best restaurant on Nantucket. Wonderful wine list. Great service. Seafood and fish are fresh, local, and expertly prepared. Do not miss cocktails on the lawn before dinner. Highly recommend.
Excellent meal at Toppers. The scallop was the best dish of the night as was the steak. The amuse and gazpacho were special. The pavlova was mid. Beautiful atmosphere. Very preppy and big families - maybe a little stuffy in vibe. Party of 8 service was just okay - we needed to clarify orders a few times with incorrect items being brought. Overall would recommend!
Mother’s Day dinner. Our server, Hunter, was attentive and engaging A+ for customer service. The food was delicious and beautifully presented with several surprise treats. Finally, the sunset was spectacular and highly recommend you reserve when setting. Overall a wonderful experience!
A very pleasant dining experience from the moment you arrive. The open-air setting adds a relaxed yet elegant vibe, while the attention from the staff makes you feel welcomed and cared for right away. A memorable evening.
Amazing restaurant. On the formal side but very family friendly. Oysters, scallops, lamb and chicken were all superb dishes, expertly prepared and with all ingredients harmoniously paired. Breathtaking location doesn’t hurt. Everyone in the restaurant was incredibly warm, welcoming and patient from start to finish of our meal (despite our toddler’s best efforts to catch them off balance). Will definitely be back.
We had a wonderful experience at Topper’s! We especially wanted to thank Dakota for making our day there extra special! Dakota is such a lovely young lady and went above and beyond! Also Taylor was super friendly and helpful! We will be back!
Shanice was an amazing waitress! She truly made our experience top notch. Her personality and professionalism made our evening memorable. She provided the best service we’ve had on Nantucket during our week long stay. She is just lovely!
Arrived in style with my entire family - Thanks to Barton & Gray Mariners Club - Talaria 44’ non stop from Nantucket Harbor to Wauwinets Topper’s Restaurant - a family summer tradition sitting at the Captain’s Table outside but due to Debby’s (storm) arrival they had an amazing table out in the covered porch. Great appetizers/entrees and desserts and don’t forget the fabulous wine selection and magnificent service - Top Notch.
Topper's (both the main restaurant and the deck) are Nantucket fixtures and not without reason. The location is simply second to none, as is the service. The food is definitely above average but, perhaps, not quite spectacular. The wine list, and the support by the sommelier, however, are. As with many restaurants (and hotels) the service level depends on sound leadership and teamwork. At the Wauwinet, the management is clearly at the top of their game and this shows.
We took their boat, The Wauwinet Lady, over to the Toppers for lunch. Fabulous way to travel to lunch! Loved it. Our server was very polite and professional. My husband loved the halibut. The chicken crepe had two very hard pieces in it. That was very unpleasant! Portions are small and pricey.
Great place on a good day when the sunshine’s! Good cocktails, decent service. Sunday brunch in the closed patio with friends on a rainy day. Bacon was perfectly browned and crispy. The brunch entrees seemed terribly overpriced.
Toppers provide you with an entire experience. You can dine inside (fine dining), on the deck, on the sun chairs, or all the way down on the beach deck. Great place to grab a coctail and enjoy the sunset. The view is amazing. The food is good. They start you with delicious bread. Some dishes are better than another. Couple plates deserve to be recognized - the blue fish pate is delicious, chicken is season great, the Cheesecake baklava is to die for it. Drinks are ok. They did not wow me personally. Great wine collection. Service is great ! One tip: You can book a boat ride for free from White elephant to the Toppers, have lunch or dinner, and return back to town. The boat ride was amazing. We enjoy the great island views, and we learned interesting facts for the island. Also, the beach chairs are open to public after 5 pm.
Really great food and beautiful vibe. The Nutella donut is delicious. It comes with two donuts which you share between 4 people.
Toppers restaurant may tout their AAA five diamond experience, but unfortunately, the service and food quality were lacking. The meal and service were fine, but the little things detracted from the AAA five diamond experience. The shucked oysters had shell fragments in with the oyster, and the oysters were not placed level on the crushed ice. Thus, all the delicious oyster liquor was missing. We were served bubbles in a white wine glass and not in a proper flute. My glass was placed on my left side and not the proper right side. We were not given fresh side plates and flatware between our shared dishes. Later, when removing my side plate, the server picked my dirty fork off of the plate and placed it back on the table. The tomatoes and nectarines in the salad were almost frozen, very, very hard, and crunchy. They had little to no flavor. Although these issues were small in nature, they make a AAA five diamond difference.
The food and wait service was outstanding. Refined and well-balanced flavors with beautiful presentation. Read on for more on why this is 4 stars rather than 5. We ordered a selection of appetizers to share and we would recommend each one: Oysters- from a few hundred feet away from our table- amazing! Tomato salad- perfectly balanced flavors. Tuna- was a 4/5. Bluefish pate- perfectly smoked and copious. Lobster & crab cakes- very refined and tasty. Cocktails were good and the warm cookies were a perfect finish. The phone/desk staff were not friendly and off-putting. When I shared this with the manager, I was told they are under a lot of stress and asked similar questions all day long. I would have loved to hear that this was not the level of service that they aspire to rather than an explanation of what I deem to be poor service, especially for such a fine establishment.
Topper’s was recommended by our hotel concierge and I saw it was a highly rated restaurant on Nantucket so we wanted to try it. We went for dinner and the restaurant was very nice, we enjoyed the warm fire in the fireplace. The ambience is very nice and a great place for special occasions. We enjoyed going out and seeing the sun set before our dinner. For appetizers we had the oysters that are farm raised right in front of the hotel and they were excellent. My wife enjoyed the the squash soup and rated it very highly. We also enjoyed the bread, especially the rich brown bread and very creamy butter. For our entrees we had the burger and the salmon, the burger was very good and the salmon....well it was a little disappointing for this caliber restaurant. It was a bit “fishy” tasting and not up to a 5 star standard. Based off of this one experience, I would not recommend the salmon but it may have been a one off problem. Since it was our anniversary they brought us a nice plate with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate and 2 brownie bites which was a nice touch. The service was very good and the staff very friendly. Overall, I probably would not go again, not because it wasn’t good, it just didn’t seem like a “wow” experience that I would have expected for the 5 star rating and the price.
Really excellent food , service and atmosphere but the prices seem to keep going up while the portions get smaller which is a pretty big bummer. We got half the food this year as we did last year and somehow spent more money. The boat service from White Elephant is also a lot of fun but the drink prices are a bit obscene for the small pours. Overall a fun experience but be prepared to come away spending $300 a person for not that much food or drink.
Came here for lunch as I wanted to see what Toppers was all about since its touted as one of the best restaurants on the island. It's a trek (~20 minutes?) from main part of the island if you're not taking a boat from the White Elephant. As expected, the prices are high. My sandwich was $35, didn't come with fries, and my glass of wine was $25. Sat out on the deck, which was still enclosed since its not quite summer yet. If you were expecting to have waterfront views, you won't get any from their deck or patio as the restaurant is tucked away on the side and the waterfront is reserved for hotel guests ability to sunbathe on a little crest that is elevated higher than the restaurant. Disappointing. Read about service complaints, but my server was on point. Extremely timely on everything, but the patio only had about 4 tables. The meal started with some "free" bread. One was a cheese bread and the other a sweeter bread with raisins. The provided butter was great on the raisin bread. Well churned and soft. I ended up trying the most interesting thing on the menu, the Halibut Katsu sandwich. It is supposedly new for 2024. It came with egg salad, slaw and a jalapeno-yuzu tartar sauce. TBH, it was rather flavorless. I liked the mouthful and texture of the halibut. Expert crisp. That was done well, but the combination either needed more yuzu sauce. Perhaps try recreating some sort of tonkatu sauce to go with it instead. I ended up dressing it up with some fry sauce. Disappointing for the price. It came with a little mini salad. The fries were expertly cooked, so no complaints with those and the server did a fine job suggesting the wine to go with the halibut. Overall, great service, but this was probably the least memorable and flavorless meal I had the whole trip. Unfortunate.
Beautiful scenic venue but poor service n even worse food. We were a party of 8 celebrating a special occasion that almost got ruined because at the end of the night they could not bring us the bill (due tob PIS system failure!!) . We waited more than an hour after dinner while they did not even comp us or offer us coffee. They finally gave us our bill on a pink sticky note with just a total ($1567.00 to be exact). When we wanted to see the itemized bill the manager hand-wrote on napkins but they were full of erroneous over billing. They still did not comp us with ANYTHING! We corrected the bill , left 20% gratuities n politely left. Now the food was exorbitantly overpriced. Steaks were super dry ( med rare), fries were very salty. desserts were mediocre at best, all outrageously overpriced . The sommelier was very rude but our waitress Abbey was nice but could only. do so much. Overall we do not recommend this place. Go get a drink if you must go there, walk around the property by the water, take photos n have dinner elsewhere.
Topper's was somewhat disappointing, and the cod was underwhelming. They have a nice view and oysters though.
Come for the sunset, leave for dinner. We had high hopes for Topper’s given their menu and touted AAA service. We were told by a friend to arrive early and enjoy a drink on the lawn during sunset... This experience was fantastic. The drinks are pricey, but sunset on the lawn is remarkable. Dinner left much to be desired. We waited 15-20 minutes for a waiter and a while longer for water. We eventually ordered oysters and steak frites with a manager. The oysters were delicious, but half of them were not cleanly shucked. The oysters clung to the shells, and mini oyster forks were not served to free them. There were also big pieces of shell fragments and sand in each oyster. Not what you’d expect. The manager suggested the steak frites, so we both decided to try them. Each plate arrived late and cold. The steak, fries, and greens were heavily salted. The overuse of salt felt like a shortcut to flavor. This dish is priced high, and fell short. It wasn’t clear who our waiter was all night. Our biggest mistake was staying for dinner.
While I found the service and atmosphere to be top notch it’s very overpriced. We expected it was going to be expensive and not that different than dinner in Philadelphia and NY but we were charged $40 for one scallop the size of a half dollar. We should have known better when there was no price for the scallops. Other than the overpriced single scallop it’s a very nice place with a beautiful view but not worth spending $300 (includes tip) for two people.
Maybe it's the beginning of the season, but wow, for the price, terrible. The service was not great, honestly, it wasn't as much the servers, it was the host. The food was terrible. We were a party of 11, 4 meals went back. The steaks were tough and unseasoned. The salads were pretty, but strange combinations that tasted weird. The only good taste was dessert.
I ate here and man I wasnt expecting what happened. They served my food to me and when it came out there were worms in it, Flies flying in and out of my food, and there was a bee hive near my table so I got stung 3 times. Scenery was cool and on my way out a rat even dapped me up on my way out. Food was mid for the price. I spent $160 and man was I sad at what they gave me.
The portion size to price ratio was outrageous. I ordered a butternut squash dish as the first course for $35 and the entire dish could’ve fit onto a single spoonful. The main course was radicchio pasta for $65 and included THREE pieces of pasta. Three. I was finished with the dish in under 60 seconds. For taste, I would’ve rated the two dishes 2/5 stars. Fine, but nothing to remember. The service was great and the setting is lovely but the portion sizes are insulting. They left me hungry and feeling like I’d been taken advantage of. I would’ve ordered dessert but was worried that for the $25 price, a scoop of ice cream would’ve been the size of a quarter after seeing what they gave for the price of $35 and $65. I ate at Oran Mor earlier this week and highly recommend. Beautiful restaurant, great service, fantastic food with normal portion sizes, and fair prices.
If you’re coming to Nantucket expecting an unforgettable culinary experience at one of its so-called “best restaurants,” Topper’s will leave you disappointed—and lighter in the wallet. It’s a perfect example of how prestige and a beautiful setting can mask what’s essentially a flavorless, overpriced meal. A Negroni came to the table with no mention that it included Monkey 47, jacking the price up to $31—without so much as a heads-up. That’s not luxury; that’s a sneaky upsell. A basic courtesy like disclosing top-shelf swaps? Nonexistent. Dish after dish came out looking the part—plated beautifully, sure—but with zero depth of flavor. Seasoning? Missing. Acidity? Nonexistent. Texture? Flat. For a place flaunting Relais & Châteaux status, it’s baffling how bland and uninspired every bite felt. You keep waiting for something to pop, to challenge your palate, to even register on your tongue—and it never does. At this price point, you expect a meal that will either elevate your palate or at least feel like it justifies the cost. This did neither. You’re not paying for a culinary experience—you’re paying for a fancy table with a water view and a name that sounds important. If you’re under 60 or actually care about flavor, energy, or connection, the vibe here feels stale and performative. Polished service, sure—but robotic. No warmth, no spark. Just formality without feeling. Whether you’re a chef, a foodie, or just someone who wants flavor and authenticity, Topper’s fails to deliver on every level that matters. It’s not just disappointing—it’s insulting to pay these prices for food this flat. If Nantucket’s culinary scene wants to live up to its rep, it needs to stop coasting on legacy names and actually serve food with soul.
The setting is beautiful. Very disappointing meal experience from the fine dining menu. We should have asked if we could order off the deck menu or, if not, excused ourselves and retreated to an area where we could order from another menu. Difficult to find anything on the menu that looked appealing. Settled on the lobster. It was entirely bland. Especially for the price of the meal, it was a massive disappointment. I felt badly for my mom who had been looking forward to the meal. She had enjoyed toppers in the past with her beloved late husband and was excited to rekindle that culinary happy memory but was sadly disappointed.
5 star prices 1 star service.... Not even close to worth it. The service was an absolute nightmare. They completely messed up our order and when asked what happened they actually called our friend a liar saying he didn't order what he asked for ( this was insane). The table waited 45 minutes for the waiter to bring the right order, resulting in cold meals for the rest of us. Additionally, they didn't bring our dessert and charged us for it as well as filling our half drank cocktails with water. The bill included the meal they failed to make originally, plus the forgotten dessert. When brought up to the Manager (who was extremely incompetent) they took zero action, did not apologize and said we were lucky to be there, spending ~$1,000 at the restaurant. If you are staying at this hotel, go elsewhere to dine.... It isn't worth the time, service, or money.... Hope this helps....
Dined at Topper’s several weeks ago with a group of friends. There were five of us and we all ordered the lobster roll that came with a side salad. Upon receiving our salads, we all noticed tiny green bugs, dead within the lettuce. One friend actually had bugs that were still alive, including a wiggly slug. I quietly informed the waiter and he apologized and went to grab a ‘manager’. As it turns out the ‘manager’ Luke came over and matter of factly let us know that bugs in the food at Topper’s was a completely normal occurrence due to the freshness of their produce. He doubled down on this information by offering to replace our bug-filled salads with more salad. He never once apologized and actually ended up making us wonder what had just happened at this well-known dining establishment in Nantucket. I think that if I’m going to pay almost $50 for a lobster roll, my salad could have at least been washed and prepared in a way that didn’t involve creatures crawling in it. Upon leaving I stopped by the front desk and asked for a manager to give me a call, leaving my name and phone number. I was informed that someone named Jennifer Hudson would be calling and that bugs in the food was unacceptable. Twice more, I called Topper’s and left a message and have still received no response. I even wrote an email describing our experience with no response. To add insult to injury we also took the shuttle from town up to the Wauwinet so that we could have this lunch and the driver of our shuttle was actively using and watching his cell phone in the cupholder while he was driving us. I have video of him skipping commercials as I was sitting behind him in the van. I also mentioned this lack of safety and it has received no response. Topper’s was the one bad experience that I had in Nantucket. What a disappointment and lack of accountability on their part.
