I've tried the best of the best when it comes to cannolis and sfogliatelle. Today I tried both from Cafe Canole and theirs TRUMPS THEM ALL. There cannolis are loaded with cream. The cream.is perfect nice perfect hint of sweet with cinnamon same goes for the crunchy shell. The sfogliatelle (lobster tail) airy, soft, but.a bit of crunch filled and when I say filled ... I mean FILLED with cream. Prolly two or three times more than a normal one. And it taste just like vanilla ice cream Go here! Asap!

I have had the pleasure of eating at many restaurants in Italy. This is, truly, not just on par with but actually above many of those wonderful places. But beyond the phenomenal food, what makes Cafe CaNole special is the people who work there. The chefs have an intense passion for their work, and it’s visible in the care they take with every detail of the meal and service. The waiters are kind and prompt. The bartenders are skilled and fast. Do yourself a favor and eat here. You won’t regret it.

Nice looking setup for inside dining. Just grabbed something quick and easy for weeknight takeout. Easy to order. Great service picking up. Will definitely be back to enjoying the atmosphere as well as more food.

I had the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich and my husband had the Haddock Francaise special with Risotto and Spinach. EVERYTHING WAS WONDERFUL!!! Best chicken sandwich I've had in forever and the Risotto was fantastic! If you haven't gone there, go you won't be disappointed!

I drove 2 hours to bring a friend here only to discover they are not open for lunch (check the website). I was told only the bakery opens at noon. Very disappointed. The other 2 times (yes 2 hour drive, but for dinner) the food and service, all amazing. Thought this information would be helpful.

We were there on a busy Saturday evening and we were able to get some take home pastry while our table was prepared. We all enjoyed our ravioli, salmon, and gnocchi dinners. The staff was very good at accommodating our special seating request. We will be back.

Food was delicious. Menu on-line is not accurate; actual menu is much smaller. But there is a nice limited selection. Cannot recommend any of the dishes below as we did not have any of those. The grilled chicken sandwich/fries, shrimp bisque, risotto balls, fried meatballs were all excellent. I have had the canollis before (not tonight) and theyvare excellent. We made reservations and asked if they could do separate checks. They replied yes, but failed to mention there was a $3 per check charge for that. Very small restaurant and rather noisy.

The service was excellent!!! The wait staff was very nice and helpful. The food was top notch!! I definitely recommend getting the calamari and the garlic flatbread. The bartender was also very skilled at making many different drinks for my family and me!! Definitely check this place out!!

I've had lunch here a few times. I can recommend the shrimp bisque and gnocchi in tomato sauce. I thought the quality was excellent each time. I've purchased pastries from here many times and I've never had a bad one. I especially love the chocolate dipped peanut butter cannoli. The mini Italian cheesecakes are also a delight. The special order pastries I've had were also delicious. Definitely paradise for this fatman with a sweet tooth.

We ordered mini pastries for our wedding last month and let me tell you—there was only 1 cannoli left over at the end of the night. You simply can’t go wrong with Café Canole’s pastries! Dean is such a wonderful person to work with and truly makes you feel like family. He was one vendor I didn’t have to worry about at all. Would HIGHLY recommend for anyone looking for the best Italian pastries for their wedding or any event!

The pastries are amazing, they have a small variety of different cakes that change every time I come in. Their coffees, teas, and other drinks are made really well. They make delicious crepes, my favorite are the strawberry Nutella.

Wow! This place is amazing. I am from out of town, stopped in before they were open in the restaurant area and the staff was nice enough to allow me to sit and order ( mind you most places will tell you come back in 20 minutes when they are open!) my waitress was super sweet, the environment is great, cozy and modern. The menu is unique and priced appropriately for what you get (one meal is enough for 2!) I'll be coming back for sure!

We had a fantastic dining experience at Cafe CaNole for our brother's 40th birthday dinner. With a party of 13, including eight adults and five grandchildren, the staff ensured our early reservation and private back room were perfect. Our waiter was exceptional, patient, and genuinely enjoyed our large, lively group. The food was outstanding, from the appetizers, especially the greens, to the shrimp special, and the desserts were the ultimate highlight. The staff's attentiveness, particularly in keeping the kids happy with extra bread and helping pack our to-go bags, made the evening a memorable success. Thank you, Cafe CaNole!

One of the best meals we have had. The calamari special was terrific. Ordered the cavatelli in cream sauce, chicken and risotto, and our daughter had the filet. Best cream sauce I ever had, light but packed with flavor, and a generous portion of prosciutto and peas. Those gorgonzola potatoes with the steak are loaded with flavor, just enough funky cheese to give a rich sharpness. The chicken was outstanding, great crispy batter and risotto was cooked perfectly. We will be back for sure.

I am from Queens, NY. I've been to many Italian bakeries throughout my life. The limoncello canoli from Cafe CaNole was created for kings. It was the best canoli I've ever eaten!

Cafe CaNole is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. They have amazing menu options with a good range of vegetarian-poultry-fish-meat options and then have specials as well. The drinks are also very original (and tasty). Everyone’s food tasted amazing and the servers are always so friendly and helpful. The portions are also quite big which is great for leftovers :)

We had a party of 7 for a bit of a birthday celebration. Our server, Jason, was incredible, as was the rest of the staff that helped with water, etc. Jay explained the specials and was very personable. We had arancini as an app. So. Good. Our dinners were wonderful all around. No complaints from anyone. I can only speak for myself, but my dinner, the Chicken Marsala special, was absolutely delicious. The parmesan risotto that accompanied it was superb. Portions were large enough to take home for a second meal. Since it was a birthday celebration, we had to have dessert. A couple cannolis, a piece of Godiva chocolate cake, and more. Everything was delicious. A great experience. We weren't rushed at all, felt relaxed and definitely taken care of. A wonderful night out.

Fantastic flavors and unbeatable value! This has been a long time favorite. You just got takeout a couple nights ago. Could not believe how big the portions were. Despite most places overcharging and gouging, Cafe Canole still offers an excellent value. Big portions and the taste is second to none in Utica! I would highly recommend this restaurant!

My boyfriend and I just went to dinner there for Valentines Day and Dani was our server! She was amazing and took good care of us and we were in and out in an amazing amount of time. This was our second time at Café Canole and it was just as amazing as the first. We sat outside and ordered the Chicken Milanese and Chicken Francese. Both were delicious, but the Milanese stole the show — crispy chicken over a rich cream sauce with the citrusy salad cutting through… one of the best dishes I’ve had in a long time. Dean, the owner, personally stopped by our table both times to check in, which really stood out. No special occasion needed — this will be a regular spot for us!

My wife Irene and I decided to go to Cafe CaNole for her milestone birthday, with a reservation for 8 PM and although there was no host or hostess at the door, we were quickly acknowledged by a passing server once we entered that someone will be over to seat us, and we were at our table within a couple minutes. They brought us waters and some fresh bread baked in house with a dipping oil. My wife got a limoncello spritz which also had some prosecco in it and is a seasonal drink special. The menu has a nice variety of choices and also offers items noted as vegetarian or gluten free options. We split a Caprese salad that had a light but lively vinaigrette. Super enjoyable and great for summer. We got the fried meatballs and the greens CaNole for appetizers. The meatballs were phenomenal, made with fresh garlic and as good as anything you’ll find from the old East Utica Italian neighborhood. They come with a red pasta sauce to dip in, which was one of the best pasta sauces we’ve had. The greens were really good, but on the spicy side. Next time I would ask for lite spice. We ate a few bites, then boxed them up and made them with eggs scrambled in for breakfast the next morning which tempered the spice level. For entrees we got the filet mignon and the haddock oreganato. The haddock came on a bed of rich risotto and topped with sautéed spinach. The filet mignon came with a thick au jus that was exceptional. It came with a side of the Gorgonzola potatoes. Oh my goodness, these potatoes (which also can be ordered as an appetizer) were out of this world and quite possibly the best potato dish we’ve had in our lives. The wine selection was small, but mighty. It had enough variety curated to perfectly pair wine by the glass with any dish one chooses. The quality of the wines were very high. We were quite stuffed at this point, but wanted to try a little dessert so we got a vanilla pasticiotto. The pasti had a sweetness of the vanilla pudding filling that was a nice finish to an amazing meal. After we had gotten our check and had paid, we were sitting at table finishing our wine. It was the end of the night, we were one of the last tables there, the kitchen was closed, and Chef Dean came by and thanked us for coming. I told him we loved everything and that I was ashamed to say it was our first time eating here, but we chose to come here for my wife’s momentous occasion. He then said he was going to bring us a slice of each of their famous limoncello blueberry cake and Godiva chocolate cake. I told him we appreciate the gesture and we were stuffed so he didn’t need to do that, but he insisted and walked away to get them. Let me tell you that these cakes were absolutely heavenly and divine. The cakes were both light and fluffy, the frosting mildly sweet and a consistency almost like a whipped cream mousse. The fillings were as perfectly balanced as one could get. We each took a few bites of each and then packed up the rest. They made the perfect compliment as a breakfast dessert the next morning. The service all around for the night was fantastic and a noticeable team effort as there were six different servers who had a hand in our experience to make us feel totally welcomed. They were attentive to every need, checking in at the right times, clearing dishes when finished, bringing the next course immediately out, and packaging up leftovers promptly. My wife and I are extremely grateful that Chefs Jason Nole and Dean Nole who are the owners and are brothers, came out to take a picture with us before we left. Everything we got contained generous portions made with culinary excellence that was packed with balanced flavorful perfection. The three most outstandingly best things we had were the meatballs, Gorgonzola potatoes, and the slices of cakes. One must try them. Cafe CaNole is definitely one our top 5 restaurants in all of Central New York, and arguably in the top 3. If you’re looking for quality culinary dining with an unforgettable gustatory experience, then look no further.

We ordered chicken French , Godiva and fresh strawberry puff pastries. Our food was outstanding, flavorful, perfect temperature packed appropriately for take out. A beautiful place to eat food is great... only negative thing is too small for the amount of people overcrowded for sure.. cant even walk around tables that small and loud can not hear the person next to you.... Would love to see this place expand... food is really good portion sizes good to even share .. waiter got few things wrong rushing ..teen...... But kitchen staff / owner ...even sends things out to sample absolutely 5 star food.... Building is too small .... But in a beautiful nh nook of town :) !!!! Then there was the kids b day party another day ... Whole place is yours... The help is great... And the kitchen staff amazing... Every child had their own pizza... Drinks by bar tender lots to choose.... All food was really great and every parent is coming back for dinner this week :) doesn't get more family friendly then this :) but you will pay the price of 5 b day parties :) if you can afford it good if not skipp the next 5 b days n you good:)

I cannot tell you how happy we were with our cannoli wedding cake and the AMAZING dessert table of assorted mini pastries! Cafe Canole has always been our absolute favorite when it came to any pastries growing up in New Hartford & it’s so nice to know that their quality has not changed over the years. Dining is also very nice. Cozy place. Menu offers variety. More upscale than not. Limited seating though so make sure to call ahead for reservations. Highly recommend.

Very nice place. The bar area is a little small and people who are waiting are right on top of you, but that is what you have. The food is very good and the prices are reasonable. Worth a visit.

Very small dinner area with music too loud for conversation. Wine suggestion was as if I knew nothing about wine. I intentionally asked to hear reply. Suggestions were two fruity whites to go with their Italian-influenced mixed salad. Salad was drowning in dressing which hid other flavors. Chicken in chicken sandwich had great carmelized onions and roasted peppers but a very overcooked chicken fillet with burnt edges. Desserts looked luscious but did not try them. Fine tune the food prep, increase the wine selection to a more interesting mix of wines rather than the usual chard, pinots, and cab.They did have a malbec. For New Hartford it was a breath of coziness .

It’s Saint Joseph’s day and also my daughter’s 24th birthday. What started out to be a nightmare was turned into a fantastic night. The only reason this is four stars versus five stars is simply due to a reservation challenge. Once that was resolved, the service and food were outstanding. The sirloin tips and gnocchi were a unique combination and I highly recommend it. Most importantly, the owner’s wife came out to our table at the end of our meal, took responsibility for the scheduling issue, and was apologetic and kind. Reviews, in my opinion, on the Internet should never be negative. Only use this platform to give positive feedback. Otherwise, you can ruin reputations and it’s not fair. If you have a problem, don’t hide behind the Internet, address it with management upfront and everything will go fine. I know this from first-hand experience owning my own places. Great job handling this, Cafe Canole. And, our waitresses were great as always - especially Christina. Thanks for a great night.

You don't feel gypped on the amount of food. Solid Italian fare

Bought pasties that were absolutely delicious however, when charged was told my bill was one amount and exactly $5.00 was added on my charge when I checked my statement the next day. Not sure what was going on. I didn't want to drive back to complain seeing it was rather far.

Had dinner here with family. Food was mostly very good -- haddock, chicken parm, chicken scarp, rigatoni, flatbread...all great. Gnocchi pomodoro was a strange miss, though, compared to the other dishes. Bakery had good desserts. Place feels like its on the smaller side, but is split into a couple of different rooms. The high ceiling causes the place to be quite noisy. Waitstaff and talking across the table meant raising your voice. When the place is busy, service can be on the slower side as well, but the waitstaff is pleasant. Overall, a decent place to eat in Utica.

To be honest, we found the food underwhelming. The meatball appetizer and accompanying sauce were akin to what you'd expect from Denny's. Ditto for the two main courses; pretty bland and generic. The service was excellent, but we'd have had better food at Cavallo's right across the parking lot for about half of what we paid here. Two wines, one cocktail, an appetizer and two main courses was $81.

Update 4/20/24, went in for 2cocktails with friend, ordered spaghetti with meatballs and a side of meatballs to go ( 3 meatballs ) 30 bucks, and the spaghetti was dry as hell. Sent a picture in to barmaid ( which is a wonderful girl ) no response from owner.

This place really needs to adapt to the patrons. Portions seem to be getting smaller each visit while the prices sky rocket. Since their is no drop ceiling, it is loud and unable to hear person talking. If you are looking for cozy, relaxing atmosphere this is not it. Everyone is sitting close, it is loud, will sadly not be visiting again.

Very good food but so unpleasantly noisy in there that table conversation was nearly impossible -- no sound dampening anywhere in the room. With many good restaurants in Utica (esp. Italian), no reason to return.

This is months ago. The waiter recited the specials so I ordered one which was Fruitti di mare. He never said what the price was and I was surprised that it was over $30. Nothing special about the dish and other restaurants have it for much less. I wrote a letter to let them know I was upset and never got a response. Haven't been back since and never recommend it to my friends.

Customer service is very unprofessional! They do not seat you when walk in. We had an embarrassing visit with my Best Freind, not knowing that all the tables were reserved we sat down in hope that it would be like before where the server just comes and takes care of you. However we just got laughed at for not knowing and had to make an exit in shame. The one star is just for good food 😏

I can't tell you how awful this place just made me feel. Me and my bestfriend just went there for dinner, and stood there waiting for someone to seat us down, they just looked at us and ignored us while talking to the people at the bar. So we sat down and waited for about 5min, then someone finally came up to us and told us that everything has been reserved. Really? You couldn't tell us earlier? What a humiliation! I do love their food, but I'll have to chose Ancora over this place now. Farewell Canole.

I called to reserve 2 pieces of cake a day in advance. Went to get them and the girl told me that they don't do that, so I decided to buy 2 rainbow cookies and an almond paste cookie. There was absolutely no flavor to any of them....Very disappointed.

I went in with my two toddler boys and we picked a few pastries we liked. When I asked if we can have a table, the girl said "I think we have a lot of reservations". At least half of the tables was free at the moment. I'm still shocked! Not to let the little ones enjoy their pastry? What's wrong with these people?

Bakery is excellent, the restaurant is another story. I had spaghetti with meatballs, meatballs were so overcooked and dry I couldn't cut them with my fork ,absolutely no flavor, spaghetti tasted like it was made the day before, dry and tough, sauce was not good either , like can of tomato sauce poured over the spaghetti. Very very disappointed, I'll go to the bakery again never never to the restaurant disappointed!

We ordered this cake for my Neice's birthday. It was very dry and flavorless. Except for the bottom which was soaked in some flavorless liquid. Way downhill.

I flew in for my mother’s birthday and this is the restaurant she picked. Upon arrival we brought a cake in which we gave it to the server assistant. We got sat immediately. The same server assistant brought us bread and waters, it wasn’t until 10 minutes our server greeted us. We ordered drinks in which the server assistant brought out, ordered 2 lemonades in which never came until I asked the server may we have 2 lemonades to the table right before our dinner came out. Our server proceeded to take our orders 26 minutes after we sat, we wanted appetizers but due to it taking so long we only ordered entrees. Alcoholic drinks and food came quick, there was 2 4 tops who had a different server that came in after us that received our food before us. Food was very good, after sitting for 15 minutes waiting for boxes I finally got our servers attention. I asked for boxes all the way around and for the cake back that we had brought. He asked “well what’s the problem” I had Responded well sir this has taken a very long time he responded “well the restaurant is busy“ I said sir it took you 26 minutes to take our order. (Mind you this wasn’t even an app order but we skipped out due to It taking so long) he responded “have you ever been to a restaurant that does courses” I actually do work at a fine dining restaurant in a different state that does indeed do courses but in this instance we didn’t do courses. I responded I do work at a restaurant, 5 minutes later he comes back and proceeds to literally drops the cake on the table and says “this isn’t even our cake so I don’t know why your complaining at me for” , and told me I was very rude and says I am not allowed back. Another 10 minutes goes by and he drops the check. I said excuse me sir it’s not one check he says “you never said that” I said you never asked, mind you this is a 7 top and he responds “nobody asks for split checks”. As a fine dining restaurant bartender/ server at a very successful restaurant the fact you allow a server to treat your guest this way, and to tell a guest they aren’t allowed back is absolutely disgusting. I truly hope you reprimand this server and his name is Jason. I really would love a call back from the owner to speak about this experience because a review just doesn’t do enough. This was a birthday dinner and it was absolutely ruined. If a customer expressed to me that they didn’t like the service they received I would never ever speak to a customer like that . Drinks and food all came very quickly , only the service was slow . He was no where to be found throughout the entire night , no where in sight . I spoke to multiple bartenders in the town of Utica and they also experienced bad service from Jason, not to mention I am from Utica.
