I love this place. It’s such a good take on Taiwanese food. I highly recommend the popcorn chicken and lo Ben bang. They’re both so savory and delicious. The popcorn chicken is so tender and crispy and their honey glaze adds a nice touch of sweetness. their 3 cup chicken is also extremely tender and flavorful. Highly recommend getting some rice on the side too to enjoy it with. This time we got the Hakka stir fry which is a great take on twice fried pork (another Chinese classic dish) Their pea shoots are also extremely tender and crisp. Highly recommend it to help balance the heaviness of some of the other dishes!
If you're in need of a taiwanese food fix, this would be a great spot to scratch that itch. The crispy silken tofu was amazing, with that cumin lime and chili oil vinaigrette- awesome appetizer to get started with. The scallion pancake beef wrap came with a very generous portion of that tender and flavorful beef shank, and was well balanced with the onions and pickled vegetables. Both the dry beef noodle and the beef noodle soup had bouncy noodles that really soaked up all the flavor. Only complaint would be that the soup is quite salty, but at least still had all the right spices and flavors. Overall, 886 seems to be a trendy, boisterous place to get some solid taiwanese flavors, and to hang out and grab drinks with friends.
been wanting to make the trip to ny and here for YEARS and we finally did. did not disappoint. we’re gonna be sad whenever we have other popcorn chicken and beef noodle soup bc it won’t be this good. super friendly wait staff and fantastic food, cannot wait to go back. we got: honey glazed popcorn chicken, red yeast ribs, beef noodle soup and dry beef noodles. also the mango spritz mocktail which was so damn good and refreshing, get that in a carafe.
We came to 886 for dinner on a Friday night. It wasn’t too busy when we came around 7ish and the food did not take too long to come out. We got the honey glazed popcorn chicken which actually came with honey on the side and the shaky fries. Both were solid appetizers. we also ordered the lo ba beng and the dry beef noodle which were also amazing. The noodles were spicy which I enjoyed. The restaurant itself is very fun. It’s got a neon interior and good music playing! Our server Shika was very attentive and kept checking in on us. She also was on top of our allergies and making sure we were taken care of in that regard. Huge shout out to her for making it a memorable night for us!
The negative comments online don't reflect the quality meal I just enjoyed. The team is extraordinary! Their dishes and customer care earn perfect scores. Waiters were professional, our food came promptly, and all items were cooked perfectly. This spot is consistently good and I tell others so!
I came here with a friend from Taiwan AND I was breaking my pescatarian diet after a year! It was the most delicious reintroduction to all the meat I hadn’t had for a long time. We had the Lo Ba Beng, The Notorious TFC, and the Scallion Pancake Beef Wrap. Everything had such full flavor profiles with great contrasting textures. So satisfying. Every bite. My friend being from Taiwan was able to tell me which parts of the dishes were an ode to more traditional things from home and which parts were fused together from other places. SO GOOD! Enjoy!
Ordered an assortment of dishes such as Honey Glazed Popcorn Chicken, Lo Ba Beng, Scallion Pancake Beef Wrap, Dry Beef Noodles, and Peashoots with Tofu Skin. There are also a variety of drinks and a great one to share was the Pink Venom carafe. The Popcorn Chicken is a classic starter pick, crispy, and nice bite sized pieces of chicken. Lo Ba Beng reminds me of home with its braised pork belly and mustard greens. The pork belly is tender and the mustard greens adds a nice crunch; mixed with rice and the yolky eggs, it’s like a proper meal The Scallion Pancake Beef Wrap is also a great go-to option to share, securely wrapped and the beef tastes tender as well and easy to bite into. The Dry Beef Noodles have a good amount of sauce that keeps the dish tasting thick and filling. The Peashoots with Tofu Skin was a good pick to add some more greens to the table, nicely cooked and still a bit crunchy alongside the very soft tofu skins. The Pink Venom is a nice light drink to enjoy the meal with. Staff are not intrusive and quick to respond. The space here is very tight and there is just enough seating but expect to wait during rush periods. This is a great spot for the younger crowd to hang with friends and have a meal together.
Allow me to share my thoughts on the dining experience. The beef noodle soup presented a delightful flavor profile, which was quite enjoyable. However, the texture of the noodles themselves was somewhat disappointing, as it did not quite match the overall quality. On the other hand, the popcorn chicken was absolutely outstanding, exceeding all expectations. Its crispy exterior and tender interior made for a truly memorable bite. It elevated the overall experience, adding a touch of perfection. In summary, the restaurant provided a mix of positive and less favorable aspects. With a few tweaks, the dishes could become extraordinary.
Tasty Taiwanese-American fusion food. Not the place to go if you’re expecting authentic, traditional Taiwanese cuisine. The dishes here have an American twist, but they are delicious in their own way, especially the pork belly rice. I also recommend trying the Taiwan flavored beer if you’ve never had it before.
This is a relatively small size restaurant, get ls packed fast, and most of the time there’s a long line. If you plan to visit, show up early. There’s no clear big sign of the restaurant, you probably need to locate it using the building number. Food wise I found it to be decent. We pretty much ordered all the items from the menu. My favorite was the three cup chicken and scallions pancakes beef wrap. Other items were not bad either. I loved the Taiwanese beer. To me they tasted much better than US beers. I tried two flavors, both were excellent.
We came to this restaurant on a very cold New Year’s Day for lunch. We made a reservation for two a few hours before on Open Table. When we came to the restaurant there were several people but there appeared to be availability for walk-ins. While there was one server for the restaurant, she was very polite and attentive. The space is very casual but clean. Despite it being very cold outside, the restaurant was a comfortable temperature. The restaurant is also small but doesn’t feel cramped. I haven’t had a lot of Taiwanese cuisine but I enjoyed this meal. I thought the Taiwanese sausage was incredible. The portions were also decent size. I would go back and I would recommend.
Taiwanese food is always a good choice however I feel like New York City doesn’t quite embrace how amazing the food is this place is cute. Small and quaint. Staff is super friendly and overall we had a good time. Food – the food here is all good. The portions were nice and overall we had a good meal. My friend was the one who recommended this place because he mentioned the sandwich here is supposed to be one of the best in the city and I love fried chicken sandwiches. Overall, we have the fried rice where we added sausage the fried chicken sandwich, an extra order of french fries with the Taiwan dust and everything was good My biggest complaint is that the sandwich is so big and honestly a little too messy for me. They put pickles on the bottom, which makes everything slide off and not the best way to build a sandwich the flavor however it was delicious. The sauce is delicious. The fries were amazing the Taiwan dust and seaweed. Ambience - the place is very small and I think only one other person eating there so not very busy very quiet. It almost felt very often affected Taiwan. They also had a banging playlist metal tables and chairs with no backs. Simple.
It’s a nice dinner spot. I think my expectations were a little high though! I thought the popcorn chicken was good, not great, and was almost missing some depth? I was not a fan of the sourdough scallion pancakes, it after-tasted a bit of spoiled yogurt. The pork rice thing that is “popular” was my fav part, but still, 4 stars, not 5. Outdoor seats are plastic stools. Would not go racing back, but it was still a decent meal for ~$20
the scallion pancake was good, though the menu description says thicker than usual but the thickness was ordinary. the sausage was also good, came with a big pile of garlic. the beef noodle soup had tender beef and nice noodles but the broth was pretty flavorless. we added the garlic from the sausage dish to add flavor.
I went to 886 with a Taiwanese friend in search of some authentic Taiwanese food. We enjoyed our meal! We got the popcorn chicken and Manila clams with loofa. Overall, we wished the popcorn chicken had more of the classic Taiwanese seasoning and the sauce was a bit too thick and sweet. The Manila clams were great! The food is definitely somewhat altered for an American palate.
The atmosphere is awesome. But unfortunately the food was not as great as expected. The cabbage with bacon was too salty and the Lo Ba Beng was a bit too spicy. I guess they have different menu for lunch and dinner, just make sure they still provide the dishes that you want specifically before you go.
Been here twice. Some food is good some not so much. I purchased the shot glass then later realized they put the tab with the food and charged you default 20% tips on the shot glass too if you clicked the option without thinking much. Only realize it until I get home. It’s not much money but it does feel like getting scammed….
