The food and service were amazing. The duck is definitely a must try. So is the black sesame flan from my point of view. It’s sesamy, roasty, very good. Service was excellent. :) also, the food arrives very fast, even if there are a lot of tables and people. Really nice surprise to see how efficient and organised they are. The only thing I’d mention is that the place/atmosphere is louder than expected. There are indeed a lot of people and it might be harder to hear the waiters or the ones you’re coming with.
Pujol is the #7 restaurant in the world. And also in Mexico City Cosme is the sister restaurant to Pujol! Having been to Pujol, we were very excited to try the food here Came in for brunch on a Sat right when they opened (12pm).. highly recommend making a reservation given this place filled up FAST Service was outstanding.. multiple servers/staff waiting on you.. there to help with anything The food delivered! Wasn’t heavy.. or too rich. The presentation was beautiful.. the bites were light.. but bursting with flavor .. complex yet simple .. paradox I know but when you try the guac for example, you’ll know exactly what I mean (btw guac has a nice kick to it if you like spice) Not the biggest fan of mole yet the duck mole dish was money. Definitely worth it.. as was the omelette with sweet corn (SO GOOD!) If you’re on the fence, highly recommend you check the place out.. so so good!
The corn based dessert is as good as we heard. Not too sweet with a aroma from the corn and crisp of sugar coat on both sides. Soft shell crab taste special (in a good way) and different than the Asian ways of doing it. Uni dish is ok, but neither my friend and I are big fan of beans, so we felt like the taste wasn’t that attractive. Overall it’s really good.
AMAZING! This upscale Mexican restaurant was everything we could have imagined. From the small plates to the duck carnitas - this place is 100% worth it. Per previous comments - of course it’s not nachos (ugh). It’s amazing food and great cocktails. We had a waiter food and another for drinks. They truly wait on you hand and foot. MUST GO! The corn husk dessert is out of this world.
Consistently excellent guacamole. Fresh herbs elevate the flavor. Thinly sliced serranos provide subtle heat. Prawns were good, though a crisper texture would enhance them. House-made tortillas are a standout, strong and fresh. Carrot tlayuda is a delightful surprise, packed with vegetal notes. A substantial "primi" course that stimulates appetite. Duck carnitas maintain their legendary status. Tender, fatty, and flavorful, complemented by robust salsas. A reliable and exceptional dish. Cosme is a great place for social gatherings. The decor is minimalist yet inviting. The acoustics remain a challenge; noise dampening is needed. Highly recommended.
I dined at Cosme to celebrate a birthday and had one of the best meals I’ve encountered in New York! Every item we ordered was absolutely impeccable and surprising in the best way possible. Though expensive (we split five plates), it is definitely worth it considering the quality of food. Atmosphere wise, it was a very dimly lit and packed restaurant but not problematically loud. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable about gluten-free and nut free options. I cannot wait to go back!
Cosme is truly a hidden gem in NYC’s Flatiron District! ✨ I had the pleasure of attending a private birthday dinner for my best friend with a group of 12, and the experience was nothing short of EPIC. From the outstanding service to the incredible atmosphere, food, and drinks, everything was top-notch. 🍽️🍷 We dined in the private room at the back of the restaurant, which made our evening even more special. The duck carnitas 🦆🌮 and cauliflower tomalley 🥦🔥 are absolute must-tries—flavorful, unique, and beautifully presented. Without a doubt, 10/10! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My only two suggestions: It would have been nice to have the same server throughout the evening for a smoother experience. Also, with my 15 years in the NYC restaurant industry, I understand closing times, but we did feel a bit rushed toward the end ⏳. A little more breathing room would have made it perfect. That said, these are just small notes on an otherwise amazing experience. Highly recommend Cosme for anyone looking for an elevated yet warm and welcoming dining experience. Can’t wait to come back! 🙌 #CosmeNYC #HiddenGem #NYCEats #MexicanInspired #PrivateDining #Foodie #DuckCarnitas #FoodLover #EpicDinner #NYCRestaurants #FlatironDistrict #10OutOf10
Cosme was a treat! The duck carnitas were excellent! Everything down to the tortillas were spectacular! The service was excellent as well! I had a flight of mescal and the presenter was perfect. He explained the differences and how they were made. Perfect experience! I highly recommend!
Absolutely loved this place - came here for dinner a few nights ago and loved literally everything we tried and want to come back to sample more! The cocktail menu is expansive but I loved the paloma I went with. We went with the guacamole, the octopus, the endive salad, and the tlayuda - all wonderfully flavorful and with varied notes. For our main we went with the duck carnitas which was so perfectly cooked! For dessert, we had the corn husk meringue and the banana tamal - both with a bit of savory to balance the sweet! Loved the ambience and absolutely loved our waiter - he was attentive and helpful in guiding us through selecting our items!
Awesome spot for a dinner for two or a group. This was my second time here, as the first time I went with a group and didn't get enough of all the favorites. My wife and I went all in on this visit. We started with the 1 + 1 = 2 mezcal flight. We learned a lot about the process and it was super enjoyable. As starters we got the uni tostada and broccolini. The uni was a very unique dish with a ton of flavor profiles. The broccolini comes in a sauce that was mole like and was delightful. Next, we moved on to the sweet potato tamal and the blue crab relleno. Both incredible. We had the duck for our entree, a must have. We typically don't do desserts, especially after such a plentiful meal but after watching the tables next to us raving about the meringue we had to give it a try. (The table of 2 next to us actually ordered a second) WOW!! Don't leave without trying it. One of the lightest and best desserts I've ever had.
Came here for me and my girlfriend’s anniversary. Found out about this place through a YouTube video showcasing the duck tacos and corn dessert. Detail orientated restaurant with quality ingredients and excellent service. Great bang for your buck and would recommend for anyone looking for honest Mexican food without the grease and heavy feeling that comes after eating so many tacos.
Best Meal of my life. A special 1 Year anniversary. Our serve Omarr, the sommelier Emma, and our busser Juan all went out of their way to give my girlfriend a truly special experience. Everything was excellent! We ordered the Octopus, hiramasa, Tamale, Squash, Mole, & soft shell crab. For desert we ordered the tiramisu and they were sweet enough to bring us truffles and a tres leches. For Drinks: tlāloc old fashioned, Telenovela, El Ninja, and Mezcal Negroni Omarr recommended the squash, which was not on our radar at all and it ended up being my FAVORITE. Emma Suggested the El Ninja, its one of the best cocktail we have ever had. Emma was even sweet enough to give us a wonderful pour of bubbles at the beginning of the meal, and take the time to get a picture of us as we were leaving! Is you want an unforgettable night with mind blowing flavors and exceptional atmosphere and service, RUN to COSME!
Was taken here for my birthday dinner and I was not disappointed. We loved everything from the appetizers to the desserts. Make sure to get the duck. It was the BEST. And the service was exceptional. I wish I would've gotten my waitress's name because she was so sweet and knowledgeable. Will definitely recommend to anyone.
I went here for dinner with a group of colleagues. The interior is dim with a good vibe and energy. Service is great from host to bag/coat check, explaining of the menu, and checking up on you. Seemed like they had a lot of staff to have a good service ratio. The presentation and taste of food were all great! Of several dishes i tried nothing fell short. I was especially fond of the octupus and the desserts! Gets pretty busy into the evening. Def reccomend!
Outstanding meal service as always. This was a return visit. Menu has been streamlined but still showcases their outstanding cuisine. An array of vegetarian and pescatarian friendly dishes. For the meat lovers - there's steak and duck (must try)! Every plate more exquisite than the next. Uni Tostada with bone marrow was my favorite. The hamachi crudo was outstanding as well. And the Mole de la casa, manchamanteles and parsnips was a perfect marriage of texture and flavors. Tortillas are served warm as an accompaniment with some dishes. (Note, no more tacos on the menu). Desserts were also excellent - especially the Burnt tostada Tiramisu, was the best I've ever had.
We visited this restaurant because we missed Mexican food after trying Mexico City's restaurant, Pujol. The food was lovely and really fulfilled my craving for Mexican food. They also have a great mezcal drink if you're into that flavor. Drinks: El ninja, Prickly pear swizzle, (forgot name of third drink) Food: Herb guacamole, uni tostada, pork belly, duck carnitas, guava chocolate cake
I came here with my bf to celebrate my birthday. High-quality food with good service. The atmosphere was excellent, I enjoyed every dish I ordered. Cocktails were great, 1. We had herb guacamole, which came with corn tostadas. 2. Octopus was super good, I love it! 3. Fluke, tomatillo, pomelo ceviche, has delicate flavor and texture, the flesh was very thin, ate it with corn tostadas, perfect! 4. Entree we had duck carnitas, which I also posted a video of, this was the BEST duck I've ever had in NYC, duck meat was very tender and juicy, pricy but worth it!! For dessert, we got cornhusk Meringue, amazing! I barely ordered sorbet at a restaurant, but the orange blossom vanilla sorbet was so good! At last, I had a birthday cake from the restaurant, which made my heart so warm! Overall, 10/10. I'll be back!!
came here with my boyfriend during restaurant week ($60 prix fixe dinner) and was highly impressed!! it's not often that a prix fixe menu is amazing on every course but genuinely everything we picked was delicious (and we are fairly critical diners!). our selections: - fluke and morel starters - pork belly and striped bass entrees - cherry and flan desserts and we also last minute decided to do their iconic corn husk meringue as an add on-- totally worth the try!! for the quality of the food, highly recommend coming here for restaurant week! we are considering coming back for their famous duck carnitas as well. the only drawback is that the main dining room is quite loud, but luckily we were seated in a little alcove near the front.
A chic and trendy Mexican restaurant in NYC that has locally sourced food with wonderful tequila and mezcal craft cocktails. I went there for a mezcal pairing dinner and everything was wonderful. It tends to be busy so I recommend making a resy. Make sure you get some of their popular plates, like the guacamole, duck carnitas, short rib, and corn husk meringue.
Came here for my bday dinner, love the intimate vibe with dimmed lights, background latino music. Menu is simple but drink menu is quite extensive with margaritas, cocktails, agave tequila flights, etc. we ordered the uni tostada, mole and duck dish to share. Everything was super flavorful and each ingredient complimented each other rather than one overpowering. I was so impressed by the mole it was so rich in the sauces I couldn’t stop scraping the sauce from the plate. The duck was so juicy and the blue corn tortilla was chewy just how I remembered trying in Mexico. Last but not least the corn husk meringue is a MUST!
Went here for dinner and it was such a great experience. The staff was very attentive and helpful. We started off with drinks at the bar and the bartender Isaac was awesome. He was knowledgeable and made great drinks for us. After a couple drinks our table was ready. Our waiter Omar was awesome as well, he really made the experience there magical. All the staff was just very good and worked as a true team. The food was amazing, the flavors and presentations were spot on and played well with the different taste buds. The duck carnitas was my favorite, the meat was so tender and season well. Everything was really good, I didn’t have not one bad dish. Dessert was the corn husk which was amazing as well. I really recommend this place, it’s a reason why it’s considered one of the best in the world.
Cosme was incredible from start to finish. The Black Adeline cocktail was perfectly balanced, and the spicy margarita was delicious. The scallops? OMG—unbelievably good. We tried the Cosme 10th Anniversary flights, highly recommend! We ate the fluke aguachile and the Peking duck, both outstanding. Our waitress Andrea was amazing—attentive and warm. For dessert, the merengue and chocolate mousse were perfection. And the carajito digestivo? SO freaking good—like a sweet espresso with the perfect touch of liquor. Absolutely loved it!
The food is delicious. I cannot think of a restaurant with more flavorful and imaginative dishes. I see that some complain about portion size- but I did not find the potions small. The service is very attentive and pleasant. Server always available without being overbearing. The acoustics are difficult and it’s really loud and echoing. But honestly the food more than made up for this.
As usual, an amazing culinary experience and adventurous flavors. So happy to be back and see a consistent delivery by the team. Every dish screams flavor, brightness, richness, and decadence. From the herbaceous guacamole and starter seafood dishes to the heavier duck carnitas and steak through to velvety corn husk merengue and carajillo, everything hits masterfully.
Wow. The duck, the tostada, the octopus, and the tarte. Oh my goodness. No actually though the duck is truly incredible. Each bite was as good as the first—highly recommend and is completely worth the price if you have the means. The service was great, waiters cleaning and serving at almost all times. The filling of water glasses every time I took a drink was a little much, but I guess that is how the restaurant works. Had such a good time and seriously delicious food.
Some people may celebrate their birthday once per year… at Cosme time speeds up and you celebrate Everytime you sit at the bar with Cesar. Not only did he provide the best margaritas and tequila old fashion, but the food and service was amazing. To cap it off unexpectedly a Tres Leches birthday cake (well maybe not my bday but i got to blow out a candle) arrived at my spot at the bar and we celebrated like it was 1999!!! Great time and highly recommended!
Cosme is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Their menu is so creative and combines so many great flavors together and then the dishes are outstanding. My favorite savory dishes are the strip steak, duck, octopus, and fluke. And then the must-have desserts are the corn husk meringue and chocolate tart. I wish I could have all of these everyday. Our service was wonderful recommending the appropriate number of dishes for our party size and the food was paced perfectly.
Totally delightful experience, from the moment we walked in and were greeted by the lovely staff until we finished our meal. The food is exquisite and creative. We had the sea bass ceviche, herbed guacamole, scallops al pastor, duck carnitas and corn husk meringue for dessert (pictured). The flavors are unusual, and everything is beautifully prepared. The portions are somewhat small but that makes it possible to try lots of things. The service is lovely and attentive without being overbearing.
I'm surprised this place gets low reviews. Food was thoroughly excellent and inventive. Spicy Marg was one of the best I've ever had. Wine list was very well put together - shout-out to having Jura on the list, the Chardonnay was excellent. Service was very professional and warm. Highly recommended.
Outstanding experience for our group of 4. Luckily, we were wise enough to order two portions of the Pastor Prawns to share because they were so delicious, everyone wanted seconds. Most dishes come with tortillas, which makes it easy to share and taste multiple dishes. Mezcal, wine and non-alcoholic cocktail selections were wonderful. We ordered the Strip Steak and Duck Carnitas to share which was a wonderful anchor to our meal. Service was very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend and definitely come back.
Came here as a group of 7 for dinner. We were greeted warmly by the staff and seated right away upon entry to the back room. The server was very knowledgeable and offered us her recommendation for the right amount of food for the group. The scallops were the highlight of all the dishes we tried. The mushrooms they had for one of the dishes were so unique and tasteful. The duck was cooked to perfection and made for some amazing tacos. The non-alcoholic drinks were top notch for a boiling hot summer day especially the horchata with just the right amount of spice. The ambiance of the place was perfect being in the back room but upon entry to the main dining room around 7/8pm it got very loud to keep in mind.
Worth the Hype I visited Cosme with my family during a trip to NYC, and it absolutely lived up to expectations. We shared several dishes, all of which were amazing. My favorite was the shrimp—perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. For dessert, we tried the churros and the corn husk meringue, and both were incredibly delicious—definitely a must-try! We also had a baby in a stroller, and the staff was very accommodating, ensuring we were comfortable while the baby slept. Excellent food, great service, and a lovely experience overall!
We were looking for a special fine dining experience to celebrate my husband's birthday and have a pre Christmas dinner with our friend. People we knew raved about Cosme so we booked our table immediately. The atmosphere was beautiful and every person we met was extremely hospitable from the hostess to all of the wait staff. Omar was our waiter and was "a piece of charm". He provided excellent recommendations of all courses on the menu. Damon, their Sommelier, was extremely knowledgeable all of their wines and spirts and all of Cosme's food. Both delivered an exceptional experience. The standouts were the wine and specialty cocktails, the fluke, and Duck. It was the best dining experience we have had in NYC. Book your table immediately. The people made all the difference.
Hands down the best Mexican restaurant I’ve been to in NYC! The food is absolutely phenomenal—every bite was bursting with flavor. The creativity and balance in each dish were just incredible. My favorites were the aguachile, uni tostada, prawns, and the duck carnitas—each one unforgettable. The service was a bit slow, but honestly, it was worth the wait. Plus, the ambiance is cool and adds to the overall experience. I highly recommend this place, 100%!
Came here for date night with my boyfriend during NYC restaurant week. Had a dinner reservation for 8:30, the restaurant was pretty busy and we had a 15 minute wait and hung out near the bar while we waited. The restaurant is dim, creating a warm and intimate space, perfect for a date or gathering with friends. Highlights of the restaurant week menu - Fluke Tostada (favorite item of the night) - Duck enmolada - Affogato flan Additionally I ordered a Paloma which was light and refreshing, perfect on a summer night; and the scallops which came with warm tortillas. The service was excellent and although the music was a bit on the louder end, we were still able to hear each other from across the table. Overall a great night and we will be back.
Cosme was an amazing restaurant to celebrate my birthday! The ambiance was perfect, the service was absolutely impeccable (I cannot stress this enough - I had better service here than some Michelin star restaurants I’ve dined at!) and the food was out of this world. Please, do yourself a favor and order the duck carnitas and the prawns al pastor! Try out their mocktails as well, we ordered the cherry one. However, you can probably skip the mole and the aguachiles. While they were good, they were not mind blowing. Would highly recommend if you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, promotion, and want to indulge in some delicious Mexican food in an upscale, classy sexy ambiance with great service.
We came here for fiancés birthday. The food was 10/10 especially the corn meringue. The wait staff and the servers were wonderful and acknowledged my finances birthday with a candle in our dessert after dinner without me having to remind them. Great attention to detail. Can’t wait to come back.
We had such a great experience at Cosme NYC! The food was beautifully balanced — creative yet comforting, with bold Mexican flavors and perfect presentation. Every dish felt thoughtful and precise, from the appetizers to the famous duck carnitas that truly lived up to the hype. The desserts were stunning too — especially the corn husk meringue, which is unlike anything else in the city. The service was warm and professional, and the atmosphere — chic, lively, and elegant without being pretentious. It’s one of those places where you can celebrate something special or just treat yourself to a perfect dinner. Highly recommend for anyone who loves modern Mexican cuisine done at the highest level. Thank you to the team for an unforgettable evening!
Food 9/10 Each dish had a solid kick to it. The shrimp and cabbage really stood out to me because of how fiery the flavors were. The octopus had a nice sauce. The duck carnitas were solid, but they were slightly dry so that was a small let down. Definitely recommend their appetizers though, a big variety. The cocktails I thoroughly enjoyed, all had very distinctive and complex flavors. Atmosphere 9/10 Very modern and sleek design, we sat near the bar because it was a walk-in, but the interior had slate stone tables and dark wood details, with brass/bronze accents. Service 9/10 Very informative when we were selecting dishes on the menu, friendly.
Had an amazing birthday dinner here! The staff were amazing, patient, and attentive. The food and cocktails blew me away. I will be dreaming about the fluke dish everyday. Nothing was lackluster, everything truly impressed me. Thank you for your hospitality and service - I will be back! :)
A complete delight, don’t miss the opportunity to come here. I had the pleasure of coming with my wife during Restaurant Week, and everything we tried was incredible. If I go again, I would definitely order the Icelandic Arctic Char Everything Bagel Tostada, the duck enmoladas, and the hazelnut flan. The mole is unbelievable, and the flan is so enjoyable. Even the tortillas were amazing, they truly taste like authentic handmade Mexican tortillas. The place itself is beautifully decorated, perfect for a date night or even a more formal dinner. The staff was extremely nice, Alejandra and Fidel were the best. I truly loved this place and I’m definitely coming back.
Cosme delivers a refined, modern take on Mexican cuisine that stands out in New York’s dining scene. The flavors are thoughtful and layered, balancing tradition with contemporary technique in a way that feels intentional rather than flashy. Each dish is composed with precision, highlighting high-quality ingredients and bold, clean seasoning. The atmosphere strikes that rare balance between upscale and comfortable — polished but not pretentious. Service is attentive, knowledgeable, and well-paced, adding to the overall experience without overshadowing it. This is elevated Mexican dining done with confidence and restraint. Creative, well-executed, and memorable without trying too hard.
I’ve been here twice, once for a group birthday dinner and another time for an anniversary, and would gladly come back. The food here is phenomenal and perfect for sharing - my favorites are the duck carnitas, guac, and octopus. Do keep in mind that most items lean on the saltier side, but the warm tortillas accompanying every dish helps balance everything out. Service is consistently great and everyone working there seems to be extremely knowledgeable about the restaurant dishes, never hesitating to answer questions or provide recommendations. Overall, an amazing restaurant in Flatiron that’s perfect for all occasions!
The restaurant combines modern Mexican flavors with a relaxed, stylish atmosphere, and everything felt very well thought out. We started with the guacamole, which was outstanding — rich, fresh, and with a gentle spicy note that added a nice touch. We finished it almost immediately. The Montauk fluke was light, refreshing, and perfectly tender. The octopus was incredibly soft, and the sauce brought all the flavors together beautifully. The Pékin duck carnitas were another highlight — flavorful, satisfying, and even better with the warm tortillas. Although we were already full, we still decided to try the Meringue dessert, and it was absolutely worth it. A lovely finish to the meal. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere made the evening really special. I’d happily return, especially to try their brunch churros next time.
Well-seasoned ceviche with probably one of the best corn tortilla chips I’ve had (house made), perfectly cooked Maine lobster with tangy red sauce and fresh green sauce (the only thing I could be picky about is that the red sauce is slightly salty), and soft churro with chocolate dip. Beautiful interior, great food, and amazing service.
Cosme proves that fine dining requires neither white tablecloths nor hushed silence to command respect. The space balances industrial design with a warmth that feels effortless, much like the service. We began with the Maine Uni Tostada. Pairing sea urchin with bone marrow salsa is a bold move that pays off magnificently. It is creamy, briny, and demonstrates a mastery of texture that sets the tone for the meal. The Octopus was equally impressive, sporting a char that gave way to a tender interior, all elevated by the subtle heat of chile morita. The Duck Carnitas, however, are the undisputed king of this menu. Served in a cast-iron skillet to share, the meat is unctuous and rich without being heavy. Constructing the perfect bite with the fresh tortillas and radishes feels like a ritual you will want to repeat. We finished with the Corn Husk Meringue. It looks like modern art and tastes like nostalgic genius. Enrique Olvera’s kitchen is firing on all cylinders, delivering a meal that is as intelligent as it is delicious.
A fantastic modern take on Mexican cuisine — easily one of the best restaurants I’ve tried in New York. The lobster is an absolute must, and so is the guacamole! Their cocktails are also top-notch, beautifully balanced and creative. Every dish was full of flavor and presentation was on point. Highly recommended for a vibrant dining experience!!
The space has dark but tasteful vibes, though a little on the warm side — the AC could have been lower. Service was excellent — Stephania took great care of us, very attentive and thoughtful, refreshing our table with clean plates multiple times. The steak was flavorful, tender, and cooked perfectly. The duck tacos were a standout — rich, balanced, and definitely worth ordering. Overall, a top-notch dining experience.
Fancy place. Did not quite understood their food concept but was very well served. The duck texture was very soft and it was something very different from my usual dinings. Giving a five star cause of this new experience in a Mexican food. Asian fusion? The Cone Cream Meringue was also different!
Wow! Always a pleasure to come here. We celebrated our wedding anniversary with our daughter and got the special (tomahawk steak) and the duck. What word is better than excellent! Our server and staff were on point and friendly, and the food came out at the right pace and just delicious. We also shared the salad and guacamole, both light and tasty, to start as appetizers. After eating the entrees, we were full. My only criticism is the lighting. Although we sat at a table with a spot light on part of the table, just be aware that it is dim lighting. Fortunately, I sat at the right spot to see everything.
no notes!!! great and friendly staff. very efficient. food was unique and everything I tried was delicious !! wasn't too loud and it was nice and full!
Not your typical mexican restaurant but really good Mexican inspired food with a contemporary flair. A lot of plate sharing and just about every dish was near perfect to perfect. Also, a very creat…
Went to Cosme last night and it was a wonderful experience! Andrea was our server and she was attentive and gave great service. Ordered the guacamole 10/10, the octopus, soft crab, octopus/ steak…

Another great outing. This time we all seafood - the uni tostada, scallop crudo, prawns pastor, and halibut - all were very tasty as we have come to trust and expect here.
What a find - back the the UK Mexican restaurants are nachos and chilli .. here in NYC Cosme takes it to another level. Awesome service, great food, wine expensive as you’d expect but a great meal.

The ambiance was nice and intimate and no matter how lively it was you could comfortably hold a conversation. Service was impeccable. The food and drinks were delicious albeit slightly overpriced imo. The blue crab appetizer and the duck entree were my favorite. And they made a damn good café con leche as well. A reservation is a must as it's open only a few hours a day so getting a reasonable day and time may be difficult.
They’re trying to make appetizers elegant but I didn’t get the flavor and the food combination. The guacamole is also very plain. 3 stars. But the duck is really good. Fat and tasty but not too heavy. Add one star back. Dessert is also just normal. The restaurant is really dark and noisy, not good for chatting. They do change your plates between courses but in a rush way. Note: only 2 options if you’re vegetarian.
Cosme - serving contemporary cuisine inspired and rooted in Mexican flavors and traditions. The dishes are unique and change often with a price point that reflects that. We tried their restaurant Pujol in Mexico City which was amazing so we knew this would be good too - it was. They didn’t have a tasting menu but that’s ok. We chose two dishes from each section and it was more than enough for two people. The duck entree was very large and filling so we probably didn’t need to order so many appetizers. Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for dessert. The service was not the kindest but it comes with the city. We loved the vibe and candle lit atmosphere but we were sat at a table with a lamp right in our eyes.
Amazing Mexican food, like nothing I've had. The duck takes the crown. The horchata was ridiculously overpriced and the waiter over hyped it. It requires some research to get better value for money. Otherwise it can be terrifyingly expensive. I'm not happy with their service, even though the waiters were attentive. Even though I ordered less than the waiter recommended, it was still too much food. I also felt rushed. The food came out too fast. Halfway through the appetizer they brought the mains. A destination meal. Value for money, I rank many low end Mexican restaurants in the city higher.
I had an amazing experience! Everything I ate and drank was delicious and flavorful. The standouts were the duck carnitas, guacamole, fluke ceviche and lobster Al pastor. Our server was great. The kitchen might have forgotten about a couple of our dishes because there were some delays, but our server brought out a complimentary dessert to make up for it. It was also my birthday so they gave me a scrumptious piece of what tasted like rum soaked vanilla cake. I would absolutely return to Cosme, highly recommend going if you can!
The service and atmosphere was great. The food was also very good. We shared the duck which was cooked perfectly and delicious. We tried a couple small plates and although a great combination of flavors the price for the portion does not seem justified. I’d certainly recommend for a new experience. Definitely try the duck.
Cosme is really good but not excellent for the price. I've been here a few times and it's just too expensive for the quality of the meal. Things that were great: fluke crudo, sweet potato tamal. Things that were solid but not excellent: salad, pork chop, pecan pudding made from masa. The standout thing on the menu is the corn husk merengue dessert which was phenomenal. N/A cocktails were unimpressive, service felt like they were rushing us just a little. Atmosphere is atmospheric and elegant. I'm not saying it's not a good restaurant, but if you're charging $100+ for duck carnitas, you need to be a cut above.
Cosme is an Michelin star Mexican upscale restaurant. Really fancy. Don’t expect the regular guacamole or burritos or skillets here - it’s different but good. I would recommend to celebrate here for a special occasion as it’s place and you will remember. Everything on their menu is unique - so go for it. Portions are small as they are for any Michelin star restaurant. Drinks are amazing specially the spicy margarita. We had tried 3 appetizers and 3 mains courses here and everything was different and good. I have given 4 starts because I don’t think I can visit the place frequently because of the $$$$. :)
Definitely excellent food and absolutely incredible service! Also by far the most expensive restaurant on our recent NYC trip. The waitress explained the menu to us clearly and quickly, and we made our selection very fast. My husband has Celiac Disease and cannot have any gluten even through cross contamination, and only one or two menu items contained gluten. If you need to eat gluten-free, this is a good, if pricey, option for you! The food tastes beyond delicious, and is elevated beyond just a meal, to an experience. The cocktails we got were pretty good, and my husband even ordered a second. For our meal, we had the guacamole with tostadas, which was excellent and so fresh; the Lobster al pastor with pineapple, which was the smaller portion size you expect with lobster, but so tasty paired with the pineapple; and the duck carnitas, which was so tender and flavorful that it reminded us more of pork, and was the definite highlight. We did save room for dessert, and got the husky meringue corn mousse to share. It was so unusual and so, so good! A nice cross between savory and sweet. We highly recommend it! Because they knew we were celebrating our anniversary, they also brought us a tres leches cake, which was gluten-free, soft, and super moist. The service here is crazy attentive! They gave us a carafe to fill our waters with if we ran low, but as soon as we took a swallow or two, a server would materialize out of nowhere and refill our waters for us. I don't think I've ever felt so waited on hand and foot, anywhere I've ever gone. The real kicker is that you feel you have privacy and it doesn't seem like you're being watched, until the waiters appear from out of nowhere and then fade back into the background once their work is done. They know what they're doing here, service-wise! The price here is the only real drawback. We knew ahead of time it would be expensive, but even so, the almost $400 price tag (including a good tip) for the two of us was quite steep! You could skip drinks and dessert and come out a bit cheaper, but still, Cosme is definitely a special occasions restaurant. I'm not sure the food and experience was worth a full $400, which is the only reason for my star deduction in my rating. There were much cheaper restaurants we visited that we enjoyed more, but this was still excellent, especially for the "dress-up, fancy dinner" night of our trip. I recommend it, if you're okay with breaking the bank for a really nice, upscale experience!
A solid dinner option, but I don't feel compelled to go back. To be clear, there was nothing wrong with our experience. The food was decent, the service was decent, and the atmosphere was decent. My only qualms were that the music was a little loud, the portions were quite modest, and the servers seemed a little anxious to push us through the meal. None of that was off-putting--afterall this is NY-- but nothing about the experience made me want to return. I wouldn't suggest it's not worth going, it just wouldn't be a recommendation I'd make if asked.
We came here for valentine's day dinner. They didn't have prefixed menu which is what we preferred. We got two drinks and they were both pretty creative & good. We ordered 4 dishes to share. I didn't think any of them were amazing but they had good flavors - definitely tasty. Duck carnitas was a little dry. We also got the meringue dessert. It was a mix of sweet and savory but I didn't think it's $20 good. Overall it was a good experience but for a one Michelin star restaurant I was expecting more from them.
The service was great. The atmosphere and food were good. The cocktails were pretty good and their wine was really nice.
We visited the renowned Cosme restaurant tonight, led by celebrated Mexican Chef Enrique Olvera in NYC, and were met with immense curiosity and a tremendous surprise! Atmosphere & Vibe Upon entering, the place immediately offers a warm, contemporary, and chic atmosphere. It’s noticeably spacious, which is a huge plus in the Big Apple where elbow room is often scarce. This contributes greatly to a comfortable dining experience. The Culinary Experience Getting straight to the point: the food is fantastic. It is creative, flavorful, and full of intention. The kitchen clearly respects the quality of the ingredients and treats them with care. My appreciation isn't just because of my roots and the marvelous way it evokes the flavors of Mexico, but because the cooking is truly outstanding. The Mole (A Must-Try): This dish is a knockout. What a masterful way to share such an emblematic plate of Mexican gastronomy with the world! The accompanying sweet potato is perfectly balanced—it enhances the mole's flavor without overpowering it. The tortillas served alongside are excellent and generously sized. Duck Carnitas: These are a sheer delight; they literally melt in your mouth. They were, hands down, the family's favorite. Uni Tostadas: They were good, but they didn't particularly surprise me. Night's Special: The quesadillas with huitlacoche (corn smut) and squash blossoms were absolutely delicious. Drinks & Dessert Special mention goes to the beverages. We tried the House Red, a Baja California wine made exclusively for Cosme, which was definitely worth it. The carajillo (espresso with liquor) was perfectly prepared and a sublime match for the incredible Cornhusk Merengue—this is honestly the best dessert I've had in a long time. Service & Final Thoughts Finally, I must highlight the service. Andrea was an excellent guide throughout our dinner. We were accompanied by two young children, and she was consistently attentive and kind. We even received a complimentary cake because we were celebrating a birthday—a lovely touch! The only consideration is that this is not a restaurant for tight budgets, but it is absolutely worth the splurge for special occasions. We will undoubtedly return for another celebration!
We had an incredible experience at the Cosmo restaurant. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. The food was incredibly delicious, with a delightful combination of flavors! The only disappointing thing was the portion sizes. Considering the price of the meal, the portions were quite small. Also we had high expectations for the dessert but it wasn’t anything spectacular.
We had a great time dining at this place. Our server was incredibly helpful, and the entire support staff was exceptional. They were extremely attentive, courteous, and skilled. However, the experience was not without its shortcomings. The portion sizes were disappointingly small, and the dessert, the corn merengue, was not as impressive as I had heard. The Hiramasa tostada appetizer, which was $30, was too small for even two people to share. This should not a standard size for an appetizer. Despite these drawbacks, I would still recommend Cosme. It’s a very unique experience - duck carnitas were outstanding. It’s also a busy place so I’d recommend making a reservation, even though we were able to squeeze into one of the hightop tables without one.

This review is mostly about the price to value ratio. The food was good, but didn’t stand up to the hype and price. Would have been a solid meal at half the cost. Service was aight. Asked three different people for chips and salsa. Still waitin on those chips to this day. The woman who was filling our water was a real sniper though. - Fluke aguachile - 4/5 taste, 3/5 at $30 - Squash - 4/5 taste, 2/5 at $30 - Sole Al pastor - 4/5 taste, and would have been stoked if I paid $25 for it. IRL 2/5 at $60. - Corn husk meringue - 5/5 taste, 4/5 for $20. Don’t expect the best thing you’ve ever tasted, but it was genuinely innovative and delicious. - Nectarine tart - 3.5/5 🤷♀️ Overall mid to disappointing. Better ways to spend the money in NYC
I really wanted to like Cosme more. The tostada was well executed. The flavors and texture were pleasant but I thought that the hiramasa was somewhat obscured by the tortilla. The corn husk meringue was again incredibly well executed. Texturally it is fantastic, but I wanted more complexity in the vanilla portion, and simply more of the corn component. The ratio of creamy goodness to sweet meringue seemed a little off. Otherwise, service is excellent, but the inside is a bit dark for me.
Cosme was an average experience. Came during Memorial Day weekend and reservations were easy to make for a party of 3. Was having high expectations for the food because my friend from out of town heard this about Cosme and wanted to come try it. Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Char Chintextile Tostada had about 5-6 pieces thinly sliced fish and Avocado arranged nicely on a round flat stone. Presentation was good. Taste wasn't memorable. Pass. Octopus Pasilla Mixe Sorrel was good. Best dish of the night. Octopus was grilled well, nicely salted. Order it. Potato Tamal with parsnips and caviar - I love potatoes. I love parsnips. I love caviar. I did NOT love the hard block amalgamation that this dish was. Pass. Eggplant Tlayuda - dish was good. The eggplant with mixed veggies such as arugula and mushroom and carrots with the sauce was a flavorful combo. Order it. Skirt Steak - the steak tasted ok. Server said this and the duck carnitas were the best entrees they had. It was too salty. Dish came with many tortillas and green sauce. It's almost as if they knew they were charging too much for the steak because it came hidden under a blanket of arugula greens and grilled green spring onion. Pass Duck Carnitas - big disappointment. Lots of overcooked duck. Not so much flavor. Undersalted. Came with tortillas and green sauce and chilli red sauce. Pass Corn Husk Meringue - unique dessert flavor. The creamy light corn flavor mixed well with the crisp white macaroon like cookie. Order it. We also ordered two classic alcoholic drinks. Choco Y Hongos and La Tanga Narizona. My friend and wife drank one each. Average. TLDR: food is very average. All the food had the same flavor profile. Felt like all their meat dishes came with green and red sauce to make up for the lack of flavor. Too much $$$ from what can be better spent elsewhere. They are a well established restaurant with lots of clients even on a relatively quiet Monday of Memorial day weekend. It just felt like as if the restaurant had made it and so they lack the movtiavtion to try hard anymore.
Genius food but one of the most awkward service/management/design I’ve experienced in similar restaurants of NYC. We waited over 20-30 minutes for a reservation that we were 15 mins late for, no problem. The bar seats are reserved for dinner, so if you wanted drinks before sitting down, there’s a nook tucked behind a large dining table that you have to walk around, squeeze in between dining guests and other people grabbing drinks before being seated, for a chance at a drink from the bar. There are no bag/coat hooks under any surfaces, and no chairs are shaped to hold a purse. As we looked at the bar menu on the table, a bussboy moved us to wipe the table. We were served free an appetizer for the wait, as much as we appreciated it, it was served without utensils or napkins. We finally sat down at the high tops awkwardly placed in the actual walk way of the restaurant, brushed against by people walking in and out and getting to their seats by the bar. The place is so tight, the bussboy poured water with his arms basically around us. We enjoyed our dinner as the hosts chitchatted to each other and some workers coming in and out of the restaurant. The music was blasting (pop hip-hop like Drake on a loop, why?) over the crowded space. As we were still working on our desert beverage, a check was dropped off and checked on 3 times before we even got to look at it. Great food. But with the layout and service, we wouldn’t return again.
I was so looking forward to an upscale Mexican restaurant for our anniversary. Unfortunately they pander too much to a fancy audience, take for instance the pork chop, which didn't have much flavor or make sense with the tortilla serving suggestion. The mole was unique and delicious. Service and decor were great.
Extremely underwhelmed by the food. We had the scallops al pastor — which were well cooked, but eating scallops in a taco suddenly overwhelms the texture and made me wish I was eating a normal al pastor taco, or scallops not in a taco. Then we got the fingerling potato tamal, which was great, but just one tamal. Lastly, the Pekín duck. I was excited for this, and it was a total miss. The duck was cooked fine, but nothing about this says Peking. Cooked a totally different way, no hoisin or similar flavors. For $120 you’d expect more. A $40 Peking duck from Chinatown would’ve tasted better. Of the desserts we tried, the corn husk tamale was a standout. All in all, kind of disappointed. You can get better food elsewhere in the city for half the cost. Service was exceptional though.
Food was alright. Overall a 6.8/10. For the mains, the flavours were very one dimensional after a while. Not really worth the hefty price tag. The meringue dessert was delightful though, and I would come back purely for that. The interior is very nice, and the restaurant is ambient lit.
I was really hoping it to be something special. Also I do appreciate they are not part of those Resy restaurants that require a diner to have a 300+dollar/year annual fee to make a reservation. However the food was rather a disappointment. The guacamole was great, but the other entrees were not. Plus they really push the Duck which is by far the most expensive dish on the menu. I don't particularly like duck and the waiters really push. Not good. All the entrees should be of a similar quality, not just one. The service efficient, and the place is a bustling dark atmosphere.
Overall had a lovely dining experience, but honestly expected more given the price point. Guacamole with the crudite was surprisingly good, extremely fresh and a great starter. Aguachile, scallops, and mole were ok, nothing to rave about. Duck carnitas was fantastic, the meat was tender and pulled apart beautifully. Corn husk meringue was 10/10, just the right amount of sweetness and great blend of textures!
Cosme, to me, felt like a concept where the creators knew how to make one thing incredibly well, and in order to create an ecosystem, added a bunch of other things that did not live to the expectations of that main dish. Below all the plates we got, in the order that we got them: The Ensalada de la Casa and the Herb Guacamole were completely forgettable. Nothing really stood out, both dishes were a bit disappointing. The corn tostadas were good, but couldn't save the dish. I would not recommend you to order any of these. The Sishito Esquite was an interesting concept; it tasted good, but it had nothing to do with a real equiste. While I do enjoy different takes on traditional dishes, I like when they maintain at least a core element of what makes something a particular dish; I would have never guessed this was esquite if I had tried it without the name, instead, this to me felt much more like a nice take on Konchijeu (Korean cheese corn). The mole was just okay, the taste was good but it felt like it could have been an accompanying side to a main, instead of it's own individual dish. The Duck Carnitas were absolutely phenomenal. This was by far the highlight of the entire dinner. The duck would instantly melt just by touching it and the salsas and homemade fresh tortillas that accompanied the dish were fantastic, we really couldn't get enough of it. The Corn Husk Meringue was also incredibly delicious. The blend of both textures (solid/cream) and flavors (sweet meringue/savory corn) worked very well together, and was overall a great dessert to share between 3 people. Restaurant atmosphere is great, the place is dimmed but lights are strategically placed so you have enough visibility over your table, sort of like a spotlight. Plating and cutlery suited the restaurant perfectly. Service was good, albeit a bit on the slow side - I recommend to ask the staff for refills (tortillas, lime, etc) before you actually finish the one you have to account for that. Staff was super kind and approachable, I just hoped they would explain a bit more about the dishes and maybe some tips on how to consume them, my guests told me they wouldn't have figured out how to eat some of these dishes if I wasn't there to explain it to them. Overall, as it is, I don't think this place is worth it's current price point; however, I would definitely return and just get the Duck Carnitas and the Corn Meringue without any of the other stuff for a 5/5 dinner experience.

Unfortunately this restaurant is absolutely overrated imo. Every single dish we ordered was either too salty or too bland. Lack of creativity and was heavy on sauce which totally covered the original taste of the ingredients. We couldn't believe Cosme ranks No.22 in the world's best 50 restaurants. Avoid.
I am specifically reviewing the the Cosme x Rosetta pop up. The food was close to inedible and not at all what I was expecting after an unforgettable experience at Rosetta last year and knowing Elena Reygadas' incredible cuisine. I have always loved Cosme, but it will be awhile before I will consider returning after last night. In the future, please don't overthink the menu and ingredients, both Elena Reygadas and Enrique Olvera are some of the most talented Mexican chefs I've ever experienced and last night was not a true reflection of their work. Luckily, the incredible guacamole and meringue served as the best palate cleansers!
I have been wanting to try Cosme and it was quite disappointing. The place is actually nice and the service was good. But the food… I think I had too high of an expectations for food here Let’s start with the tostada. For $30 one tostada I really expect some rich flavors and it just turned out to be ok - nothing extraordinary. The morel mushroom tlayudas ($40)had sprinkled of morels with lettuce layered on top - the flavors were all over the place, sour and sweet, and they didn’t mix well. One very good dish was the octopus - it was cooked very nicely and tender and it pairs well with the sauce and tortilla. We didn’t try the Pecking duck carnitas but given that everything that was recommended to us was just ok, I am glad I didn’t order the $100+ carnitas.
Food too salty, tiny portions, expensive for what you get Service was horrible - didn't bring out my appetizer which was part of a pre-fixe meal so I ate my entrée before my salad. Entrée was so tiny .... two pinky finger sized rolls covered in super salty mole sauce. Had to order another dish (octopus) because portions were too small for my 3 course pre-fixe (and this is coming from a petite lady). When I ordered the octopus they immediately brought out my dessert. When I asked her to hold my dessert until after I finished my octopus, my waitress rolled her eyes. I will not come back to this joint total waste of $ and frustrating dining experience
A lackluster experience, both in culinary terms and in atmosphere. Server never once asked how anything was. Prix fixe Service was rushed. I’ve had better food at Los Tacos #1. The price echelon they strive to be part of warrants better service and food.
What a disappointment. At this price point, I expect food and hospitality to be in sync. While the food was very good, Cosme is operating as a high volume restaurant, not a 5 star establishment. In terms of service and atmosphere, Cosme fails to meet expectations at $170 pp/before tip. I was sat 20 minutes after my reservation and then my waitress disappeared for the rest of the night, obliging me to order dinner and drinks from the hostess desk. I received no apology, no visit from management, and no compensating gesture. The plates are small - expect to order at least 3 per person - and the volume is so loud it seems to dull the senses of the staff. You can't hear server recommendations or even place an order without repeating or shouting. This exchange gets tired, fast. Perhaps this harried, impersonal service is the aim of a resto seeking high turnover. But given the fine dining price point, you don't come here expecting Chipotle vibes. The crowd would seem to respond in kind - they skew young and arrive wearing gym cloths. I had heard positive things about this place from family and, while the kitchen is solid, Cosme doesn't deliver an elevated experience. I don't recommend this restaurant. Fair warning: the small tables and bar seats in the front near the door feel like a waiting room.
Overpriced and loud. The pork belly ($42 for 3 pieces of pork) and duck carnitas (a whopping $112) were one note and relied heavily on sauces instead of actual flavor. The duck portion size was very large, but the other dish components (onions, radishes, and small jalapeños) didn’t pack much flavor either. The crab was very salty and avocado puree was mid (would have preferred an actual avocado, as listed). Our waiter also turned around and left twice before we finished speaking lmao

Been to Cosme three times now, hoping it would finally click but it hasn’t. Both the food and service have been consistently disappointing. The last visit was especially bad: during Restaurant Week, we were seated right next to the door while it was about -15°C outside. It was freezing the entire meal. Despite multiple empty tables inside, they refused to move us, because “we were on the cheap menu” according to both the manager and hostess. Apparently, if you don’t pay full price, you’re expected to shiver through dinner. Not worth the hype or the attitude!
We chose Cosme for our last night in New York and honestly wish we hadn’t. For the price we paid, we left feeling completely robbed. Our stomachs were full, yes—but we didn’t enjoy a single dish, which is something I’ve never experienced at a restaurant in this price range. The biggest disappointment was the famous duck carnitas. Everyone talks about this dish, so we were excited to try it. But it had almost no flavour whatsoever. No matter how much sauce you added, it still tasted bland. I honestly don’t understand why it’s called “Peking duck carnitas.” There was no Peking duck flavour, no crispy skin—just soft, slightly soggy skin and tender duck meat. Yes, the meat was tender (it’s duck, after all), but it simply felt like eating flavourless protein. For a dish that is supposed to be the highlight of the restaurant, it was incredibly underwhelming. We also ordered two other entrées, and unfortunately they were just as forgettable. Nothing stood out, nothing had depth of flavour, and nothing justified the price. What makes it worse is that we saved this restaurant for our final night in New York thinking it would be a special meal. Instead, we left genuinely disappointed and a bit sad. Food has never made me feel sad before, especially not after spending this much money. My honest advice: save your money. There are far better places to eat in New York where the food actually delivers flavour and value.
We came here to celebrate a birthday and left extremely disappointed. The food was just okay — the duck carnitas were the only standout — but the service was genuinely confusing and unacceptable for a restaurant of this caliber. Plates were cleared while there was still food on them, and our cocktails were taken away with at least a third left. It felt rushed and careless the entire night. It got worse: the waitress offered to take our bouquet of flowers to put them in water, but never did. The flowers were returned dry, and then forgotten entirely — we had to make a second trip back to the restaurant to retrieve them. We also brought a birthday cake to be served at the end of the meal, and when it came out, the springform ring was still on the cake. Incredibly embarrassing, especially after being told their pastry chef would know how to handle it. We had to remove it ourselves at the table… For a place with this reputation, the service was shockingly sloppy. I would not recommend Cosme for any kind of celebration — there are far better options in NYC.
