It’s a small space, but they do a lot with it. Definitely recommend the pate, homemade soups and the burger.
Loved the experience :)) the waiters were very nice and the owner made an effort to help us enjoy the place! The decor and location feels authentic European with a New York twist and the food was fabulous:)) many healthy and light options, as well as amazing French fries and mussels - cannot recommend enough
Good food. We made a reservation by chance, due to location in google maps. We were a 6 person group who eat all over the world. But Match 65 is one of the best price/quality ratio restaurants not only in nyc, but in the world. We order crispy calamari ( fresh, good fried with fresh oil, awsome dressing), healthy salad( my wife still thinking of going again and eat that one) , crab cake ( made very right, still had the feeling of texture of sea food, not only a puree), steak (medium done, juicy and dreaming butter souce). Location is good, i wish i could eat outside but the weather and busy traffic did not allow us to do that. Small place that does not let them making an avarage service. They should carry the quality. So... highly recommended. If you live or visit uppereast.. you should go
I don’t know how this place isn’t rated higher. Food is excellent and service is very attentive.
My boyfriend and I went this past Sunday and had an amazing brunch! Our server was awesome, he was super attentive and helped us pick the perfect wine to go with our meal. We’ll definitely be back
Amazing service! The food was wonderful and the drinks were smooth and the bartender made it even more special☺️. Yaz made sure everything was on time and went above and beyond for us at the bar. Brantley wait to come back even though I came across this bar by pure luck! A gem in the neighborhood for sure!
I came here for a dinner birthday for my girlfriend (who loves French food). The decor was very cute with a holiday theme. The tuna tartar was extremely good! Steak & fries are great! I would highly recommend this restaurant! With the exception of showing up on time(especially closer to, closing time). You will be rushed! If you are planning on having dessert at this time as well (forgetabouit). Good luck.
Great atmosphere French bistro near Central Park , steak frites is great , very nice escargot , and relax place to hang out for a casual french dinning
We all know a lot of French restaurants, but if you’re looking for delicious food that warms the heart and attentive, genuinely friendly staff, this is your place to go.
I come here all the time, Anthony is an amazing bartender and person in general. He is very attentive and sweet. Escargot is what I always get, always comes out bubbling hot and super flavorful.
Chanced upon this delightful French brasserie. The care taken to create a French atmosphere is seen in the interiors where the names of French drinks are found on the lamps/ the hostesses are french and even the VS mustard accompanying the pate was a blast of true blue french cuisine.
Stumbling upon this place was fortunate! Their food preparation is excellent and their service always meets standards. The team here makes dining pleasant. The prices are very reasonable and the food is great. I happened upon this amazing place!
Carbonara was simply amazing, one of the best ones I ever had. It is a must try. We got truffle fries with steak frites and fries were great, although I didn’t think steak was great just because I usually like my steak frites with some sauce on it. Caesar salad was also alright, if you love it get it. We also got profiteroles that came with ice cream, loved that too. Two of us shared a red wine carafe and paid 65$ pp, our friend who didn’t join to wine paid 47$
Okay, if I could give this place 10 stars I would. We didn't just enjoy delicious food, we had a very memorable overall experience. Seriously such a beautiful spot. The food is easily the best French food on the UES or maybe all of Manhattan?! We loved it so much, we came back the next afternoon for the brunch menu. Bruno, Maria, Julia, and the woman with the beautiful red lipstick (I feel terrible to have forgotten her name) were so lovely, and took such great care of us. If you want a personable experience and more than just a meal, go here. You will leave wanting more! We had the steak which was TO DIE FOR. Literally melted in my mouth. The steak and salmon tartare are DELICIOUS. Like I've never had a tartare so good. The chocolate cake for dessert is a must have. The salmon eggs Benedict is easily the best I've ever had. And don't forget to compliment your Benedict with a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. If you want a restaurant experience that you will be dreaming of for the rest of your life, I insist that you give them a visit. You will be greeted with the best service Manhattan has to offer.
With a very authentic French interior and exterior we were surprised how close to a real brasserie it is. At first glance the breakfast options were a little limited, but we end up getting a French omelette with Brie and French toast with berries. Both were absolutely delicious and service was prompt and pleasant. We will definitely be coming back!

This place was so fun to visit! I really like the atmosphere inside as it’s dim lit and romantic. It’s perfect for a date night. I decided to sit outside as it was a nice day. Partly cloudy, but tentative was great. I got the tartare with fries and a drink and for desert the apple tart with ice cream and an espresso martini. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about drink pairings. Perfect place for a special occasion, getting drinks with friends or a date night.
Eat the buffalo cheese (3/5), artichoke (4/5), and Mac & cheese (5/5). Best Mac & cheese I've had, but I'm not a m&c expert. Decor and seating was nice and romantic. We sat outside. We were under the heated lamps and they had blankets. (5/5). I recommend.
I came here for a late weekend lunch and had the croque monsieur. The interior of the restaurant has that charming, classic French brasserie look, and there are a few seats at the bar that are perfect for enjoying a meal alone and some fresh air from the open windows. Despite how the area is a bit of a tourist zone, Match 65 manages to retain the feeling of a neighborhood establishment. The servers were very kind and attentive. I also like how they have branded matchboxes to match their name (ha, get it). My only complaint is that my dish was very heavy on the salt, and it was hard to finish because of that.
I love that place! The steak frites was delicious and it was a great time to go during the France vs England World Cup game. The mood was warm and energetic. I had my dog too, so they were extremely accommodating and offered him water. They didn’t mind him sitting inside. Thank you for having us.
Every staff member here knows how to make you feel welcome. The menu delivers predictable results. I haven't received such good service in ages. Perfect location. The meal deserves every penny paid.
The bartender made a cocktail I’d never heard of?! Something about a train or a trip- whatever it was it was delicious and I was happy to try something I never tried before. Next time I’m definitely having the burger - Looked incredible. Pro tip: sit at the bar and grab the matches on the way out. They are 🔥 (hehe)
No better place to spend a snow day or a winter storm than Match 65. And ask for Joaquin, he was our favorite waiter we have ever had. Food was superb get the crepes Suzette and French onion soup.
Love the French/Italian-looking server lady so much. She is so sharp and capable. It’s a busy restaurant all day long, but she keeps everything under control while staying patient and kind. We were there for a rushed business lunch, and I really hope our colleague who signed the bill tipped her well — she 100% deserved it. (She really looks like a boss though.)
Great experience even when the restaurant was full and we had no reservation. The hostess was very friendly and accommodating, finding an acceptable solution. The food was delicious (French onion soup and streak frites), the service attentive and the atmosphere cosy and not pretentious unlike other restaurants in the area. Highly recommended whether you’re tourist or an unpretentious local.
Love the vibe here, they’ve really nailed the French bistro aesthetic. We sat at the outward-facing tables by the bar, which feel straight out of Paris. Easily my favorite kind of seating for people-watching as everyone comes and goes. Stopped in for a quick bite before a concert down the street and everything landed well. • French onion soup: rich, deeply flavored broth with wonderfully pungent cheese. • Beef tartare: clean, well-balanced, and fresh — I should’ve asked for a bit more punch in the seasoning, but that’s on me. • Steak frites: cooked perfectly medium-rare and exactly what I wanted. A real neighborhood gem. Would absolutely return.
I did not have pleasure of dining, but witnessed through smell and visual the decadent meals being served around me. I was at the bar and came for some drinks after a brunch I attended in in the Financial District. The staff and manager were professional, courteous and knowledgeable in their drink recommendations. The ambiance of the restaurant brought me back to my time in the Amalfi Coast in Italy. I had the La Piscine Rosee, Bottle of Rose Champagne and ended the night with my favorite drink Espresso Martini. I definitely recommend if you're looking for a nice date spot or something to do after shopping in the city.
Match 65 is a hidden gem! The food was outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We had [you can add your favorite dishes here if you’d like], and everything was spot-on. The atmosphere is cozy yet stylish, perfect for a relaxed evening out. The service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. You can tell they care about both the food and the experience. Highly recommend if you’re in the area — we’ll definitely be coming back!
Ordered to pick up for lunch. Nice place. Indoor and outdoor seating. I had a Classic Black Angus Burger and a vegetable soup. The soup was light, slightly spicy with a nice hint of celery. The burger was delicious. Take a moment to appreciate the size of the patty. Cooked perfectly. Great selection of cheeses and toppings for the burger. I added guacamole. Fries was good and crunchy. Everything was packed neatly, and I had a little surprise of mini cookies, which were tasty. Thank you. Can't wait to go back. The menu looks amazing.
Came in on a Thursday night. The food was really good, just not great for that price and area: the onion soup had a strong beef flavor and was reduced a bit too much. The lobster was good, but not exciting. Mussels were a good portion but generic. The staff was really nice and helpful.
Good yet expensive Brasserie with outdoor tables on 65th street and Madison. I had the patè, that was good, the Branzino and my wife had the steak frites. The branzino was very good, the steak tasty but far from stellar. The service was good. A glass of wine for $18 is something that still bothers me, but that's Manhattan...
Came here the day of the Greek Independence Day parade, outside the restaurant but bustling but inside was pretty quiet. The service was a bit slow. The food made up for that! Our artichokes were delicious, my salmon tulum salad was incredible and my fiancé loved his chicken paillard. The salmon was cooked perfectly for my salad. A beautiful brasserie we’ve been visiting occasionally for several years, definitely recommend.
I went here for lunch with a friend and really love this location. Its easy to get to and is in the middle of all the best places to shop on Madison ave. I ordered the great healthy salad and thought it was good. Iced latte was really good. The service was amazing, everyone who works there is super nice and attentive. The outdoor seating is perfect on a nice summer day. @traveleen_gurl
I love this place. It is a lovely little French restaurant with great food and drinks. I love going here during the cold weather, sitting at the small bar (maybe only six seats), and getting cozy after a little walk in Central Park. It is also in a great location that is not too crowded. The ambiance of this place is charming. It has soft lighting and a relaxed but well-dressed vibe. I remember sitting at the bar one day and watching a woman read a magazine by the window while eating a light meal, which made me really like this place. It is definitely close-quartered, so you might feel tight inside, but I like to recommend this place and always look for an excuse to go up there.
Was visiting the Kips Bay decorator show house nearby so we stopped in for a late lunch. We ate on the sidewalk since it was a warm day and it didn’t look like they had air-conditioning working inside. They definitely are working the French bistro interior decor. You’re in the heart of the upper East side so you’re paying through the nose for what would probably cost 25% less elsewhere. Service was fine, not particularly gracious and the food was decent. Not sure I would go back unless I was in dire need in that area.
In a true NY fashion, this restaurant is small and tight. Food is very good. Food is very expensive. In a true NY way. They made us sit outside of the restaurant because they're fully booked and we did not have reservation but later on noticed that they were sitting people at the back of the restaurant even without reservation. So we froze while eating our food.
food was okay in French-Style, dim-lit diningroom. typical French fare like escargot, French onion soup, and spaghetti carbonara. the escargot was served in its own special plate without the shells. ironically, the spaghetti carbonara was the best of the three. I ordered some prosecco to go along with that. I was pretty satisfied with at the end. total price was $120+ which i think was a bit high. I don't know if I would go back or try another French restaurant like a bistro.
We recently enjoyed an alfresco dinner here and everyone enjoyed the pleasant evening meal. We ordered a variety of dishes, classics made with quality ingredients. The Caesar salad, chicken and even ravioli were fantastic. Chilean sea bass special was good but didn't warrant the price. Wines were great but the martini cocktails were too sweet. The owner/manager was extremely courteous and accommodating but our server, though polite, seemed distracted and rushed. Overall a positive experience and we'd be back.
Food was alright. Was really shocked to receive the check and see they charged us $20 for water when we were only offered sparkling or still (we chose still). I have been to many restaurants who don't charge for still. If you're going to charge $10 a bottle, let the customer know. Or offer tap! Probably wouldn't come here again.
We came in to try Match 65 with high expectations, as they have a great menu and the atmosphere is cute. The food was fine but we were not blown away by anything that we ordered. As other reviewers noted, service was lacking. For example, we made the unfortunate mistake of pouring a glass of wine before realizing the glass had lip smudges on it. We flagged to our waiter and he returned us a fresh glass, but didn’t do anything about the wine that was dumped out, so we lost a glass of wine because of this. Between this and the food being just okay, we’d recommend dining elsewhere.
I made reservations on open table for my 15 year old daughter and I. My daughter does not have the COVID vaccine. When I got there they wanted to seat me inside but would not allow us because of the vaccine. They claimed that all their outdoor seating was already reserved. Very disappointing that we wasted our time and went all the way there only to be denied service. We walked across to The East Pole and were warmly welcomed! Remember that customers have options! Update: I decided to give it a try again. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Perfect. Update: Today we were served undercooked salmon and told that they make it rare. We have this all the time and it was never undercooked before. Pretty disappointing.
Very cute and romantic flare for the outside-inside patio... tiny tables, just like in France. Must say, the service was very good and friendly, it was a pleasure to sit and relax, not rushed out. Felt very welcomed. Solid French Classics, solid. Hoping to see more culinary experiments when all goes to normal. Fantastic Creme Brûlée
The perfect Parisian atmosphere. Warm, relaxed, elegant, and buzzy. If you attend an Armory show the same night, they'll give you a free glass of rose. Chatting with our waiter, we learned that he was also a performer, and had friends playing in the show we had just seen. Unfortunately, the food doesn't match the atmosphere (My chicken was very overcooked and dry). Considering the prices, I would've hoped for more from the kitchen.
They were somewhat busy. There were some street parking nearby. We were sat pretty quickly but it took us a long time to get some water and to put some drinks in. We weren't even asked if we were ready to put any food in after our drink order before our server left the table. After our drinks came, it took awhile before she came back to take our order. We ordered the mussels and prime rib tartare. For my drink, I ordered the La Priscine Rosee which was just ok. The prime rib tartare was good but the mussels [not on the menu] had too much lemon in the broth. Overall an okay experience, not sure if I'd come back.
With all the good French food around how this place stays in business I can’t explain. After years of walking past we had a late lunch. Tasteless burnt bread, tasteless powdered potatoes. Bland duck. Canned sauce. Just really bad. Not even not good.
Nice place, great location, good atmosphere. Menu was limited and not really french-french but american french. I would have loved some genuine french cuisine but it was mediocre. I felt like the food was dropped off from the grocery and tossed onto a plate. For $30-50 an entree, it is not worth the price. $25 for 4 pieces of store bought mozzarella and tomato + 2 pieces of small bread? No thanks. The menu didnt have many food options. The 2 page menu had maybe 15 different entrees. The back half had like 50 different drinks to pick from.
After calling and making a short notice reservation (even though it wasn’t needed as restaurant was empty) for our 11th Anniversary we were seated and everything went normal. Restaurant was pricy but whatever, it was a special occasion. As I go pay my overpriced check of almost $300, (again, this was fine as it was a special occasion) I leave a tip (even though it wasn’t mandatory) but nothing was done special for us, nothing above and beyond, and service was “OK” it wasn’t bad, but it was normal. We did spend almost $100 just in drinks. This dude out of nowhere approaches me and harangues me for leaving such a measly tip ($20 for clarity purpose) immediately starts shouting and calling me out in front of my family and other guests, he then leaves, and comes back to do it again, after I politely told him I understood, he leaves again, to come back a third time to keep hammering this out in everyone’s view. What a disappointing experience to an excellent meal. The food was great (even thought the panna cota was a little runny), the drinks were nice although over priced as well, but the whole evening was left with a massive bad taste. Go for good pricy food, avoid for management.
Service excellent, helpful and attentive Food not nearly as good as the times we have been before. The meat was so very tough and the Caesar Salad had too little dressing and no taste at all. Very sad about this. Would have wanted better food to match the service.
Nice service and friendly staff but really not worth it. Wanna be a French restaurant. Food is more than average. The tartare is a lightly seasoned supermarket ground beef. The mushroom sauce on the roasted chicken tastes like old chicken broth. Just stop here if you are REALLY hungry and you are willing to pay too much. It hitches to pay the bill.
Despite us checking in twice, it took 55 min for our party of 6 to get 2 burgers, 3 eggs Benedict and a salad. I would say portions are rather small - we all finished in 10 min and we are not large people, average weight in our group: female (3) - 105 lbs; male (3) - 145 lbs. There was then a 20% gratuity automatically added on which we had to dispute with the manager, who was apologetic but admitted she was understaffed. I honestly would not recommend.
If you’re looking to have your $300.00+ dinner end early by an unprofessional manager not once but TWICE.. this the best place for you. Never in my 10+ years dining out with my husband all over top restaurants in NYC, have I seen blatant discrimination. Don’t waste your hard earned money on this at best AVERAGE place. I promise, there are so many better French restaurants than this one.
Order placed via Uber. A burger with fries, with extra egg, avocado, and bacon. The burger arrived completely crushed and destroyed. The bun was soggy. It was inedible and disgusting. On top of that, the fries were cold and limp — obviously, everything was thrown into the same container. Avoid this place at all costs!!!
