The signature shoyu ramen is fragrant, light and refreshing. So if you like rich tonkotsu this is may not be for you. The charsiu was very good but the bowl comes with just two tiny pieces of meat so you may want to add an extra topping. Crab cream croquettes don’t actually have crab meat and is basically all roux inside, too oily for me.
My boyfriend and I have been going here for years now, and it's still one of the best ramen places around the area! Their broth is so flavorful and tasty. The atmosphere is amazing and this place is such a gem. Definitely stop by when you have the time and try their food out!

I literally stumbled across this restaurant. This is comfort food. The word perfect is overused until it under-describes a meal. I had several perfect bites this evening. The ramen was perfect and the broth was amazing! I am a great fan of broth, wow can I still improve. This is a small shop and seats about 8. Egg, fish, and chicken in the photo. The portion was perfect. The egg was perfect. The atmosphere was appropriate for what it is and clean. Was just under $30 for the ramen and a beer. I really enjoyed the food here, I hope you do too!
Modern, fusion ramen in nyc. I had the famous Tokyo-style shoyu ramen. It’s basically shoyu ramen, so it’s more clear and different from tonkotsu ramen New Yorkers are maybe familar with. Based on the shoyu ramen, they added truffle oil and porcini, so it has unique taste and flavor. I really liked it, and think this is one of the best ramen spots in nyc.
Mouthwatering ramen and appetizers. Worth the line. They really pay attention to the broth and ingredients. I had the truffle ramen, which was heavenly. My companions went with the spicy mushroom and the 80’s Shoyu Ramen. Everyone was thrilled. I’m still dreaming about the cucumber appetizer.
This branch is tiny, with no bathroom, so keep that in mind when going there. But the ramen, oh my, is simply the best (sing along if you must). The best in town for sure.
My favorite ramen spot in the city! Perfectly umami with the mushroom flavor without being too salty like so many other ramen spots. The thin noodles are perfect for this savory light broth! And if you’re really hungry you can get a larger portion for a few extra bucks, or try the amazing appetizers like their pork fried rice or the fried chicken!! Super affordable and cozy be aware that seating is very limited so there can be a wait. But if you love ramen this is a place you have to add to your list
The place is rather small so big parties may have trouble fitting in. They do take out as well though. The plates are delicious. Some of their options are non-spicy for those that don't like it too hot. The meal itself doesn't sit too heavy and for the portions, it's not that expensive. It's definitely one of the best ramen places I've gone to.
Exceptional ramen! The broth was out of this world - I had the New Tokyo, the recommended ramen, and it was something else! The texture of the noodles was on point, and the overall presentation was great! Very small and casual spot good for a bowl of ramen on the go. Wouldn’t recommend here for a first date since it’s quite tiny to have some proper space. Only downside is that it is very expensive. $20+ for a single bowl is quite something. The average starting price in town I’m used to is $15-16, but it’s definitely worth trying! Very recommended! Also some valid vegan options!
Cozy unassuming restaurant with enough space for people to stay and eat. Some of the best ramen I've had lately. While the trend lately is for newer ramen houses to let you choose the richness and thickness of the broth and ramen, Ishida doesn't go that route. They'll let you choose the spice level, but otherwise you trust them to work their magic. I saw why people like it so much. I got the pork bun appetizer to stfat and while the bun itself was soft to the point of being a little sticky, the pork was so flavorful and delicious that I considered ordering more! Then ordered the Spicy Mushroom Ramen Pork which was damn good. You can swap the pork for tofu, which I'm sure is just as good. The broth came rich and flavorful filled with minced bits of pork through out. The ramen had an excellent flavor and texture that was firm yet had some bounce to it. Gotta come back for more!!
I’ve had a bunch of ramen around the city but this might be my favorite. I like the lightness of the broth. The noodles are perfect. The space is a bit tight but it’s worth it
Pure magic 🍜 . A real japanese ramen experience. Goosebumps, so good. The food, decor, and service is on point. After the first time I ate at Ishida, I left delighted and excited that I found a new favorite ramen spot... and then after walking about 10 steps down the block, I stopped in my tracks and turned around to go back for more (got the pork buns and some kind of light chicken with wild flowers) which I took home and surprise my wife for 2nd dinner. She loved it. PS - The talented and careful Chef cooking daily is from the world famous Ipudo in NYC. PPS - Options for vegetarians and meat lovers alike. ❤🍜🔥
Hands down one of the best ramen places! I got the vegan spicy miso, and the flavors were just so rich with umami. The portions are also on point - I can finish the bowl (and soup) without bring in a food coma!! Note that there are only about 6-8 seats indoors, so you may have to wait 20-40 minutes to get in. It is well worth the wait!!
Visited after watching Senpai Kais’s review on YouTube. We weren’t disappointed. Had the New Tokyo Shoyu Ramen, which had a really clean, light, yet luxurious flavour with just the right amount of truffle and the Shiso leaf adding a surprisingly complementary and refreshing lift. The spicy mushroom ( we went medium spicy which we’d recommend- anything hotter would obscure the flavours) was amazingly rich and deep, really hearty and just loaded with umami richness. Both were beautifully presented. Kudos to the staff too for the really efficient and friendly service. We waited about 25 minutes for our place, accurately estimated by our server, but once inside we never felt rushed and the wait was worth every minute. Glad we made the trip over from London!
Being a big ramen fan I would say this is my favorite ramen bar in city so far! If you’re also into the light and flavorful chicken broth with truffle on top, this is the place, and go for the Shoyu ramen. And the chashao on top is also so far the most tender one. Only that the place is pretty small and you’re probably expecting some wait time.
Best ramen & pork bun I've ever eaten in my entire life! I take a 1 1/2 hour drive into the city from Long Island just to eat here, it's that good! Wish I could leave 10 stars. It's truly amazing. The owner/chef prepares each meal himself, you can tell he puts a lot of care and devotion into his craft.
Authentic Japanese ramen with wonderful options for vegetarians as well! During my 2nd visit in September 2025, I was especially impressed by the young gentleman who spoke Japanese and took customer orders. He was exceptionally hospitable and polite, and I especially appreciated the care he put into using Japanese phrases in his service. I truly valued his hospitality and wanted to leave a review to recognize his efforts, with the hope that he continues his excellent work here and wherever he may go :)
Ramen Ishida was our last stop in NYC and we couldn’t have been happier. There are two vegan ramens which were both incredible - the owner/chef was so kind and the service was incredibly fast. The place isn’t big but we got there just in time before it filled up. Both ramens had distinct taste but were so warming and delicious. Unlike other ramens, these ones didn’t leave us feeling heavy/tired afterwards and we can’t wait to come back!
Have been in search of a good shoyu ramen shop for a long while now and I believe I’ve finally found it in the city. In my humble opinion as someone born and raised in Tokyo, Ramen Ishida is by far one of the best shoyu ramen I have ever had in my life, and now my favourite ramen shop in the whole city. The broth is piping hot (which is how it should be and yet rarely the case outside of Japan), rich and full of umami but still somehow light and did not weigh heavy in my belly. The noodles were just the right level of al dente. My bf and I each ordered the shoyu ramen - he ordered the original Tokyo style and I ordered the vegan one for taste comparison and both broth were equally rich and tasty. The original shoyu ramen used thin straight noodles, and the vegan version used “chijire” style noodles that are a bit thicker, and chewier. We also ordered the chashu rice which was absolutely delicious. It’s a tiny shop, and one may have to wait a while on a busy day but it is 100% worth it. In Japan, it is considered a sign of respect to the chef to finish a bowl of ramen without leaving a single drop of broth in the bowl. We both had no problem emptying our bowls clean. I’ll be back again and again for sure. I’ve found my home away from home.
The food here is excellent, the service is p awesome and quick. It’s a very small typical ramen shop. Don’t except tables and sitting across from your party. It’s booth style ramen bar. Love this place!! They had amazing vegan options and the vegan buns were fantastic. I had the vegan miso and would definitely recommend it. Would not recommend the spicy mushroom tofu ramen as it tastes very pulpy.
I had the vegan shoyu ramen and a vegan bun here — and I absolutely loved it! It was my first time trying shoyu, and it totally won me over. The portions were huge, and the bun was incredibly soft and flavorful. The place itself is tiny, and the food is so good that there’s often a line outside. Definitely one of those spots you need to try if you’re in the area.
We arrived right before they opened the door, a very small place, and within two minutes after they opened, it was full!!!! Very authentic Japanese ramen, beautifully presented and as you can imagine, VERY TASTY! This ramen had a touch of truffle oil in it, so it smelled really good too!! Would visit more often if it was in a bit more continent location but totally worth it! Also, lots of vegan options and apps besides ramen!
1.27.18 - Hands down one of the best Ramen shops in NYC. We've had Ramen in the West Coast, Tokyo, Osaka, various towns in Hokkaido, and the Northeast region, and I can't get over the Vegan Shoyu Ramen. We got the Vegan Shoyu and the Spicy Mushroom Ramen and both were spot on. I rarely give out 5 stars, but the Vegan Shoyu Ramen is a must and its what will bring me back again and again. The shop is small that can seat 10 diners and they do delivery, too. The black and white photos contain some of my favorite foods, including beets! They will have their one year anniversary April or May and I hope they continue strong because this is seriously an under the radar Ramen shop. btw - in general, I go into almost all restaurants with low expectations and extremely low expectations when it's hyped, but this spot is solid. Give it a go.
Ordered the New Tokyo Style Shōyu Ramen. The broth is so good, especially with that truffle paste blended in. One of those broths that I can just sip down all day. The chashu slice was delicious --- smoky flavor, juicy, wish there was more than one. The noodle is perfect for the broth. Nice service. Keep in mind that there are only seats for 8 people inside and 2 in the canopy (probably too cold for NYC winter).
I was enormously frustrated each person must buy at least $20 of food, alcohol excluded. Take it out on the customer that you have a small space and Jab your chopstick into my eye holes to make me cry cash because my husbands friend wanted to come here & I only wanted drinks. However—— Tokyo ramen, yuzu salt edamame, and potato salad are all 10/10++
Ramen Ishida serves up delicious and beautifully composed bowls of ramen alongside elevated classics like boiled gyoza and karaage. This tiny East Village shop only has a few seats, but you can feel the care and attention to detail in each one of chef/owner Yohei Ishida’s dishes. The signature New Tokyo Style Shoyu Ramen has a rich and velvety broth with an unctuous truffle note that doesn’t overpower the rest of the flavors in the bowl. The chashu is melt-in-your-mouth tender and richly flavored, and the ample portion of noodles has just the right amount of chew. The service was also extremely prompt and friendly, making Ramen Ishida a great option for a quick and tasty lunch or dinner. Overall, this spot comes highly recommended, and I will definitely be back soon.
Cozy restaurant with a focused menu. I got the Tokyo Shio ramen and was blown away by how the broth had such a deep flavor while keeping a crisp, clear texture. Just an excellent bowl of ramen, all around. If I could complain about one thing, it would be that I think I could manage to eat 2 bowls - the portion sizes are on the smaller side.
The new Tokyo-style Shoyu is such a stunning bowl of ramen - arguably one of the most well crafted in NYC. The broth has incredible clarity and umami, with a rich truffle aroma balanced by the refreshing touch of shiso leaf. The dining space is quite compact, with only eight seats arranged shoulder to shoulder. Additionally, note that there is no bathroom available.
I passed by this location a few times and decided to stop by. I love ramen and the cold weather was a perfect excuse to pop in for a yummy bowl of noodles. The had the spicy mushroom ramen which was delicious, super flavorful, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The broth was everything. I ordered the pork buns which were pillowy and tasty. I ended up ordering a separate order to go because they were that good. I had the coffee mochi dessert with was also delish and a green unsweetened tea. Service was great, attentive, and welcoming. The space is really nice & open. I love the individual seating alongside side the bar area. I arrived around 2pm which wasn’t crowded and had plenty of seating. I’ll definitely return!!! One of the top 2 ramen in the US outside of Japan. It is that good. Small space of only 10 ppl but that new tokyo shoyu ramen deliver. There are a lot of “best ramen ever” post out there but this is the only place worthy of that title in NYC. ChaSiu Don was a great appetizer. I am quite harsh on ramen but the light truffle with the shoyu soup base is amazing. Highly recommended. Come give it a try and lmk if I am wrong
Could be the best ramen place in town. New Tokyo Style Shoyu is a must try. Chicken based broth in shoyu flavor, a tea spoon of black truffle sauce elevated the aroma to the next level, with the refreshed feeling from perilla leaf. Light and gorgeous. Mio and Michi are nice and friendly. Will definitely visit again if back to New York next time.
Best ramen I’ve had in a long time and probably ever. Me and my friend both got the shoyu ramen, the broth was flavorful but not overpowering. We also got the crab and cream croquettes and they were to die for, it came with a peanut sauce which complimented the croquettes perfectly. Also highly recommend the iced matcha. We will 100% be back!
Highly recommend! Service was fast and since it’s a popular spot, you do feel pressure to not linger. It’s still worth it, the food and vibe is solid. Loved the two guys working there :) The Tokyo Shoyu ramen has a pretty strong truffle flavor which I love. I recommend getting the crab creme croquets- they were unique and delicious. They do have green tea, it’s not on the menu but you can ask for it (unsure price, it’s not free).
Wow, an exquisite bowl. The second the bowl was placed in front of me, the truffle instantly hit my nose. The broth was clean and light in the most delightful way, very flavorful despite it being light and clean. You can taste the shiso leaf in the broth, making it a very fragrant bowl of ramen. Tender chicken and cha siu. Kind of an elegant done bowl, i was very satisfied and def among some of the best bowl of ramens here in NYC
Probably the best ramen I’ve had in all of Manhattan. Got two bowls if the New Tokyo Style Shoyu ramen, one regular size and one large size. The broth was so rich and umami and the noodles were the perfect consistency. The quantity was also great! We also got the cucumber, the pork bao, and the crab cream croquettes. The pork bao was really tender. The cucumber was good but the spices were not well mixed so some pieces were too salty while others weren’t flavored enough. The crab croquettes were all cream, didn’t have much else to it. The star of the show was honestly the ramen. Will be back to try a bunch of other bowls soon!
food is fantastic. It can be a bit of a wait because the space is small. We asked how long a table would be the host said 20-25 mins said we could walk around but try and be back in 15 minutes and after that we got our table! This authentic Japanese ramen shop is the real deal. Inside there’s only about ten seats facing the walls and a small table for four in the vestibule, which is how most local ramen shops are situated in Japan -all bar seating/no tables- hey, that also means there is never a long wait for your food! If you’re in the Essex Market area, stop by for a delicious meal!
Let’s just say I came here twice in less than a week. The first time I tried it I was taken back by how delicious the broth was. Ingredients are super fresh and they allowed me to swap out the bamboo shoots for bok choy! This is a photo from the second time I went, this time I topped it off the chili powder. This bowl of ramen feels like a warm hug! If you’re looking for a ramen that feels home cooked come to Ramen Ishida! BACK W/ ANOTHER REVIEW!!! Ramen Ishida continues to be my favorite Ramen Spot. The sweet and kind waitress Sewon, always remembers my name and my order. The Ramen hits every time and I enjoy the ambience and music. I look forward to my next bowl of delicious ramen. My top 3 vegan ramen I have had in the US, quick service and snow storm outside added a fantastic charm! Please note due to smaller dine-in capacity the staff may sometimes ask you to wait outside which is totally reasonable to me, but some reviewers seem to complain about it. Infact I really liked the cozy seating :) Highly recommend coming here for vegan ramen!
Review: Ramen Ishida Wow—this was phenomenal. I ordered the shoyu ramen, and the broth is the star. It delivers that classic shoyu (light soy sauce) profile with a rich, aromatic depth, yet it’s never overpowering or overly salty. The balance is spot on—clean, comforting, and deeply satisfying. I’ve had tsukemen nearby, and while it’s good, the broth there leans too salty for my taste. Ishida absolutely nails the balance here. The pork belly (chashu) deserves special recognition. This is some of the best pork belly I’ve had in ramen. Perfectly charred, it offers multiple layers of flavor—slightly fatty, incredibly tender, and explosively flavorful. As you bite into it, the flavors open up beautifully in your mouth. Compared to the pork at nearby tsukemen spots (not bad by any means), this one feels more authentic and refined. The noodles and ingredients further elevate the bowl. Everything tastes authentic and intentional. The bamboo shoots have that slightly sour note, exactly how they’re supposed to be, adding brightness and contrast. Nothing overpowers anything else—every component complements the others perfectly. Final verdict: Everything works together in harmony. From broth to toppings to texture, this bowl is thoughtfully executed and deeply authentic. Must try. Highly recommended. 🍜
My bestie brought me here on my 3rd day of moving here. It was so cold out so she wanted to take me to her favorite ramen spot. We arrived and got seated immediately, no wait time. We ordered the Crab Cream Croquet to share. It was so good! We then ordered the Umami Miso Ramen & the Spicy Mushroom Pork. Personally, I enjoyed the Umami more bc I loved the flavors. They were both delicious but my go-to there will definitely be the Umami Miso. I’ll come back to try it all though. It got busy after being there for 30 mins - wait times increased. Service was quick. Enjoyed the ambiance and service. I definitely would recommend if you’re in the area.
Some of the best ramen I've ever had. I started with the sesame cucumber salad - delightful. Then I ordered the New Tokyo Style Shoyu - holy moly divine flavor. The noodles are high quality. Loved this ramen so much. Note: no bathroom available for customers, so prepare ahead. Staff are awesome. Highly recommend, efinitely returning 🍜
Likely the best representative bowl of shoyu ramen in the city. It might be off putting if you dislike truffle as the taste and scent is noticeable but not in the fake truffle oil way. Very small space so seating is limited to like 4-5 total with a notice that it's suggested you give up your seat 20min after receiving your order.
Some of the best ramen I've ever had, feels extremely authentic. And the flavors are perfect. Noodles were perfect and broth were immaculate but not too heavy like tonkotsu can be sometimes. Restaurant is very small, you'll likely have to wait outside but the immediate area is interesting and fun to explore. Once you give your name at the counter it'll be written in a notebook and you'll be given a time, which usually goes fast because this is not a "sit around and chat" kind of joint. You come in, get your ramen and eat it quickly as soon as it comes out. An excellent experience as a ramen lover and the people I brought with me ended up wanting to go back on their own.
I arrived around 7:30 pm on a weekday and was seated about 30 minutes later. The waitlist was well managed, so the wait felt smooth. I ordered the New Tokyo Style Shoyu, which had a deeply satisfying flavor and tasty thin flour noodles. I also enjoyed having both chashu pork and chicken breast. The soup temperature was perfect. The truffle is a signature touch, but I think the ramen is great even without it—since you can control when to mix in the truffle paste, I’d suggest starting without it. I also had the crab cream croquette. It was good, though not especially memorable.

As someone who's tried many different ramen spots, I can confidently say that this place is definitely worth trying.
Ordered Shoyu and it was delicious. As a person who has traveled japan more than 20 times, this is a taste with innovation and playfulness that I’ve never experienced in Japan. Small place with limited seats. Can only wait around since they won’t call you, but 6pm on a weekday was about 15min wait. No too bad Minimum spending per person is $20
Tiny spot but with ramen that packs a punch!! This is my favorite ramen spot in the city and one I keep going back to again and again. I love this style of shoyu broth and the subtle truffle and shiso flavor is so good!! Worth noting this location has no bathroom. But exciting they have a new larger location that’s recently opened in Chelsea!! 🙌🏻
We visited Ramen Ishida on Ludlow Street, on Manhattan’s lower east side this week for lunch. An attraction was that they advertise that they are Japanese owned and operated, producing Tokyo style ramen. We had the umami miso ramen and a side order of cream korokke. As with any ramen shop the key to success is in the subtle complexity of the soup stock and this soup is a winner. It is silky smooth, full of flavor and not over powered by just the right amount of white miso. The pork char soup was freshly grilled and the soup was finished with corn, sprouts and half of an egg. Unfortunately the egg was not an ajitsuke tamago and was a bit under marinated. The wavy ramen noodles were nicely cooked to a spring like al dente, but lacked flavor. The cream karokke was a wonderful surprise. It was served 2 to the order and was hot from the fryer. The outer panko shell was crisp and the creamy inside was ready to pour out. The inside cream filling was very flavorful. What a nice start to our lunch. The shop serves bottled beer and soft drinks as well. The ramen bowl was $18 and was a bit small for the price. Korokke and beer were $6 each and considered reasonable. It is is a small shop even by Japanese standards with side counters facing the walls. One table which seats four was setup in the sidewalk waiting area. I would come again to sample some of the other soup combinations.
the soup base is made from real chicken/fish broth, not artificial flavorings or soup bags. It’s is a delicious and authentic taste that is hard to beat. I appreciated that the soup wasn't overly heavy or packed with unnecessary "umami" flavors, but had a subtle yet satisfying taste that made it easy to finish. The classic shio ramen, with its lighter soup base and addition of yuzu, was a standout dish. The combination of salty and citrusy tastes made it refreshing. Overall I recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a delicious and authentic ramen experience as a casual/quick meal.
The New Tokyo ramen’s more interesting than delicious. The broth has a gentle truffle aroma that never overpowers, though it’s bordering on too salty. The chasu is tender with a charred aroma. The shiso made me wonder why it’s not more commonly served as a topping. However, ultimately, the ramen did not feel comforting. My soul did not feel full and soothed, which a truly excellent bowl of ramen will do. Still, worth trying at least once because of how different it is, as long as the wait list is short. The space is small and you might wait for much longer than you had hoped.
Ishida Ramen was a savior on a day we were turking for vegan ramen We had the Vegan Spicy Miso and Spicy Mushroom Tofu along with the Vegan Buns as a starter. Really tasty - the broth was not too creamy and had some great infused flavours. The vegan buns had an eggplant and mushroom fritter. I loved it. Very crispy and flavorful. Will definitely go back!
This place was absolutely amazing! I came here with a friend for a quick bite and they didn't disappoint. To begin, let me just say that this place is pretty small, so you may have to wait for a seat. It's most DEFINITELY worth the wait. Once we were seated we were greeted by our lovely waitress very quickly. She was extremely personable and her service was excellent. We started with the Dassai/Junmai Daiginjo and some Pork Buns to share. The Dassai was absolutely refreshing and the pork buns were just so fluffy and savory. Nice and hot. For our main dishes, she got the New Tokyo Style Shōyu Ramen and I got thr Spicy Umami Miso with added tofu. All I can say is that before we got our food, we were in deep conversation and we absolutely shut up because we were too busy stuffing out faces. It was SO delicious! Super flavorful and balanced, although I do wish that mine was a little spicier. It was still wonderful overall. The ambiance of the place, coupled with the service and the size, makes for the experience to be really cozy and chill. It feels like a hole in the wall, and in a way it is. It's something that I really do like about it, but objective speaking I think it's the only thing holding them back. I feel that for how great everything was, they definitely deserve a bigger space. This is the only reason I gave them 4/5. Do take into consideration however that there's only two people working: the chef and the waitress. Even with this service was excellent by all accords, and so long as you're willing to wait for a seat, this comes VERY highly recommended.
Solid bowls in this hole in the wall. Got the New Tokyo and every component was great altogether a very satisfying and filling bowl. The chicken and pork pieces were cooked well, and I liked the thin noodles they used. Service was nice! Came at 12:15 when the first seating had already gone in and we only had to wait 20 minutes.
I’ve loved this ramen spot for years! Ramen is so yummy. Small place with limited seating, a few vegan options! which is always amazing. Although, It feels like there could be a little more of the toppings, and meat / tofu. The wait might be long since there are not a lot of seats. I recommend trying this place for the great flavor, the coziness and the service.
This is how you would have ramen in Japan 🇯🇵. Just a few counter seats. Quick service. Good noodles 🍜. Nice staff. Reasonably priced. Usually a long wait to get a seat. No public restroom. Second location in Chelsea. Give it a try if you’re in the area. We will definitely be going back.
We ordered the shoyu ramen,spicy mushroom pork ramen(very spicy), karaage, crab cream croquet and chashu rice. Karaage is average, not impressive. Crab cream croquet is so creamy which is very nice(have to order). Chashu is surprised me, which worth a try. Since New Tokyo style shoyu ramen the truffle paste kinda cover the shoyu taste(if u like truffle order new Tokyo. If not, order the 80s shoyu ramen) anyway, broth kinda light to me. Spicy mushroom pork ramen has 3 level mild, spicy and very spicy. It’s still mild to me when I choose very spicy since I am a spicy person, so I couldn’t tell you how spicy u should choose. The broth is kinda boring, not too rich flavor. Since some of the ppl I know said they are the 一番ichiban ramen in NYC, I have really high expectation. However, overall the appetizers are better than the ramen. Ramen is not impressive. Place are tiny, not much seat. And they shouldn’t let ppl use their bathroom since ppl needa walk through the kitchen to the bathroom. It’s not hygienic. Service is good btw.
Have seen this ramen shop quite often as I pass it while walking, decided to stop in. Very small shop, and about ten seats if I recall. We ordered the croquette and fried karaage chicken, pretty ok. For ramen, we both ordered the spicy umami miso, it was ok, but it didn't stand out to me. I did feel like the portion was a tad small for the ramen bowl. All in all, its ok, but pales with all of the many ramen shops in this city.
25 min estimated wait time turned into a hour in the cold with my husband. No restroom .. it’s all a recipe for disaster… this place does have great ramen but beware coming in groups larger than 1. They prioritized a group of 4 after 5 seats cleared up and only 1 seat was free. Had to wait for another party of 2. They were doing DoorDash orders so the kitchen was backed up. I had to plead for atleast a free drink to make up for the experience.. asked for the plum wine and she gave me a terrible sparkling peach drink. I won’t be frequenting this location anymore. I’ll try Chelsea. The clam and porcini special ramen was not all that. Definitely doesn’t shine anywhere close to their menu ramens.
This place serves truffle oil shio ramen with a light chintan-style broth. It was really tasty The only downside was that it took quite a while for the ramen to come out. Also, there are only about six seats, so it feels pretty cramped.Still, maybe that’s part of its charm small, cozy, and very Japanese in style
Quite disappointed, probably just not my type of ramen. Heard many great things from reviews and friends but quite disappointed. Found the flavor of the broth very bland and oily and the noodles were too soft for my liking. I love truffle but this just was not it. It felt like they added truffle just for the hype and the price. The meat was very soso with not much meat. Also had the boiled gyoza but the broth was super salty and the gyoza was very soggy. The atmosphere was very casual which is ok but the table and the chair felt super sticky. Maybe personally prefer a good tonkatsu from Ichiran or Okiboru House of Tsukemen? (My fave 2 places for ramen in nyc) But this Ramen Ishida just wasn’t good for me.
Me and my friend came for dinner. But I wasn’t in the mood for a lot of food. But I saw there’s a note saying there’s an order of $20 minimum per person. So I ordered a gyoza which is $12 and a cocktail that is $9. So that adds up to $21 for my order. The owner came and told me that I have to order $20 worth of food so I told him I don’t want to waste food, plus my food and drinks together is $21. He was being so rude saying “it’s my rule, do I have to write it now to specify food order?” After that me and my friend left, would never come back. They don’t know how to talk to people with respect.
I came here with a friend for what was supposed to be my birthday dinner🙃 And it turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had in Manhattan. When we walked in, we greeted the server with a smile: Hi, how are you? Could we please have a party of two? Her response: Hi. You need to wait. Just flat, no warmth at all🙃 I understand the restaurant is small, so waiting outside is fine. But the attitude from the very start was unnecessarily harsh and dismissive. She told us to put our name on the waitlist, she said she will call my name, handed me a menu, then immediately told us we couldn’t wait inside and made us leave.😑 When my friend asked about a restroom, she said no and told us to go to Essex Market. Later I found out the restaurant does have a restroom. That felt very dishonest. While waiting, two seats opened up. Instead of seating us (we were next), she gave them to two white men who had just arrived. Then when another two seats opened, I asked if I could at least sit down while waiting for my friend. She muttered something low that sounded like yes, but as soon as I started to sit, she snapped: No... you can’t sit if your friend isn’t here. Like completely unnecessary and humiliating. I felt discriminatory and racist. At that point, I left. Maybe their food is good, but there’s no way I’d accept that kind of customer service, especially on my birthday. I walked across the street to a Malaysian spot, and the service was the total opposite: warm, welcoming, and respectful. See you but not again.
Giving one star here because of the service that ruined my meal. Tonight we went in a group of three, the entire restaurant was empty. We were asked to sit right by the door where it gets really cold when someone enter. And was denied to switch to the other side where fit three as well by the only male Asian waiter working there. Given the reason there:”We prefer to assign seats so other customers can sit”. I felt shocked and forced by his way of addressing because he was literally demanding the customers with unreasonable demand in an empty walk in restaurant. I finished my meal with my friends feeling forced and uncomfortable. There’s a lot to improve in this customer service.
SAVE YOUR TIME AND AVOID THIS JOKE OF A RESTARAUNT. The guy with the tattoos (I think he’s the owner named Ishida based on the other low ratings) really need to lose the attitude, otherwise he’s not gonna keep any customers or grow his business. I genuinely don’t understand why he has to be so condescending, smug and rude. The ramen itself is very average and not at all worth the wait. I would give this place 0 stars if I could
I’d think a bit before deciding to go to this place. First off not a very good spot for dinner as it is super small. They will tell you to move seats just to accommodate other guests WHILE you’re in the middle of the meal. Everything felt rushed and the ramen was just okay. The noodles tasted exactly like angel hair pasta noodles vs typical ramen flour noodles. Broth was tasty but wasn’t the best ramen I’ve ever had.
