We have been in NYC on vacation 6 days and the service provided by Nahid N. Was some of the the finest in the city. Deticated to his job, always attentive and going above and beyond what his job requires. We were treated kindly by the hostess, the food was delivered promptly with our expertly prepared drinks. One of the best burgers in the city in a more than beautiful atmosphere. Thank you all at The Ellington.
We come here often, and it never disappoints. The food is amazing, the service is fantastic. The restaurant is spacious and welcoming. We’re never hurried thru our meals. There’s a bar area, outdoor seating and large inside dining areas. Tables are well spaced, lots of room for accessibility♿️ They have a great menu - this time we had “snacks” - cauliflower, calamari and guacamole. Lots of healthy options. They also had some very pretty drinks. Make sure you check out the delightful little drink menu/booklet! Meter street parking.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Ellington. The decor has an Ernest Hemingway vibe to it that says come in, relax, have a great meal. And I did, as you can see from my empty plate, haha. I ordered the fish & chips. Prepared perfectly and simply delicious! The service was a little slow to take our order, but our meal came out pretty quickly. The servers were very friendly. I would highly recommend The Ellington. Nice ambience, good food, friendly service and easy on the wallet. Treat yourself!
My wife's favorite restaurant in the vicinity of Columbia University. The food is healthy, whole, and delicious. The lunch service remains quick and efficient. The staff are friendly. The restaurant atmosphere congenial. Worth a visit.
This place is absolutely stunning !! They went all out for Christmas and I felt the holiday cheer as soon as I walked in. Everyone is super friendly. The food is incredibly delicious. No matter what I ordered I thoroughly enjoyed, especially the salmon it was sooooo flavorful and juicy and cooked to perfection. So if you’re looking for delicious food and drinks head over to the Ellington immediately
Superb experience at the Ellington! The atmosphere was nice and quiet on a Friday afternoon 12:30 and the server was excellent. The prices have increased but the quality and taste of likewise the Ellington Burger and the molten lava cake have always been incredible. The burger is the second best burger I have ever had in my life; just incredibly juicy and tender with the ham and creamy and perfect sauce. Always recommend medium rare. The fries were nice but personally I dont like them that thick and not that crispy. The cale tasted like a michelin star cake; just melts in your mouth and the sauces add a lot of flavour. The steak sandwich was also extremely tasty and juicy. I am obsessed with this place ever since my mom introduced me to it many years ago.
We hosted our wedding reception at The Ellington in November 2022. First of all, Glenda, the owner, and Koren, the event manager, are incredibly kind and so easy to work with. Our initial venue cancelled on us 100 days before our wedding, the Koren and Glenda worked with us to put together a beautiful night. The space is so beautiful, and we received so many compliments on the food. Our guests kept telling us it was the best food they’ve had at a wedding. And the drinks were SO good. I cannot recommend hosting an event at The Ellington enough. We will definitely be back as regular guests for dinner and brunch.
Me and my girlfriend went to this restaurant to try something new. We came in around 5:30 or so so we had time for the Happy hour, we weren't aware of but Taylyn informed us of it. We had a bottle of Pinot Noir, Burrata, Prosciutto Flatbread, the Potato gnocchi and a 10oz special steak that was available. We enjoyed the decor and music Taylyn was our server and she was knowledgeable, excellent, and friendly. Thank you for the amazing dining experience. We'll gladly come again.
The food and service was excellent! The burger was delicious. Our server Nahid was excellent and friendly. He was very attentive, which was much appreciated. We loved the mini donuts!
This was a beautiful warm atmosphere. The food was amazing, and so were the drinks and staff. Candace Cherry or “Cherry” as she is affectionately known by all the staff and returning patrons has this place running like a well oiled machine, and that’s not to take anything away from the entire staff because they were amazing. The meshed like a family unit. I will be returning to this restaurant.
This place is a Gem. It’s not hidden though. The food service and atmosphere are on point. I came in with my girlfriend for a private party and was blown away by the service and food. I came back for lunch and had a great salad with manny at the bar (great bartender- ask for him). I can’t recommend this place enough. Perfection on all levels
Last night we had the most amazing dinner at The Ellington! We were a large group and everyone raved at the end of the night about how perfect everything was…we all can't wait to go back! To start, we ordered a bunch of appetizers for the table. One was better than the next...calamari is always a fan favorite. The drinks of course did not disappoint and were kept full by the most attentive and friendly wait staff. The salmon I ate was perfectly cooked and delicious as well as my husbands fish tacos. What I would have never known is that the building in which the restaurant resides is so rich in history! The owner made sure to come to our table to enchant us with the stories of what once was. It was so wonderful to go out to eat and not only enjoy the company with great friends but we also were so grateful for the warm and welcoming experience. Looking forward to checking out brunch!
From the host, to the waiters, to every person who works here, they were super nice and helpful. My husband and I order the Ellington burger and it was delicious. The downside note it was that I was very disappointed because wasn’t aware that they only serve brunch menu (10-4pm) on weekends, so I came for the normal menu (that I saw online) and well, we couldn’t have it. I don’t recall seeing this )but maybe that’s because my adhd). So anyway, I’m including a picture so you are aware. Beside that. The place was beautiful, and again, food & people well very nice. 5 stars! Just keep in mind what I said about brunch menu if you are looking for something else.
I came here for New Years and was stunned by the restaurant decor and the atmosphere. For the new year, there was a live jazz band that was phenomenal. Our table reservations were right before the kitchen closed, but the staff was extremely accommodating and helpful for getting our order in. I ordered a beyond burger with sweet potato fries and an amaretto sour. As a table, we shared a bottle of prosecco and the staff brought out champagne for a champagne toast. I was throughly impressed with the speed and quality of service given our large party size.
Great staff. Great neighborhood spot with the usual american and italian fare. Chicken marsala was juicy with a nice sear on the chicken. Gnocchi was hot and fresh. Little round cheese cakes are not to be missed, better than the flourless chocolate cake that was a little too dense for me.
i enjoyed my experience dining here at the ellington. i ordered the burrata, mussels, and truffle fries, and they were all exceptional. it took some time to locate the waitress and place our orders, but this is only because we went on a saturday night when it was busy. once we ordered our food, it arrived promptly.
Excellent food and service close to the park. The mimosas were perfect with waffles made with chocolate and peanut butter. A jazz band complemented the flowery atmosphere. Go here.
Holidays in Manhattan means a stop in at The Ellington. We do not come often and this was our first time since they moved from The Amsterdam location. What an Upgrade! We went there on a Sunday and was rewarded with a Brunch Menu. What a treat. The atmosphere was casual but "Manhattan Elegant" softly in the background with a piano and conversations from around the restaurant. Still, it was easy to have our own intimate time just my wife and me. We just concluded a wonderful family Christmas and had a few hours alone. First thing our waiter, Nahid, noticed we were holding hands. He shared stories with us of other customers, painting a lovely picture of romantic afternoons at the restaurant. Nahid was great letting us have a quiet brunch but also never feeling neglected. The menu was terrific. Just the right number of selections to keep the selection process to a minimum. Each option was described well and the chef delivered on each of these promises. The picture below does not begin to describe what the chef prepared. The flatiron steak was cooked perfectly and delivered at an equal temperature to the table. Eggs are hard to cook to order but I could not have done better myself. My meal came with fries. I could pass them up except there was a vessel of gravy that needed to be eaten. No way would I put it over my perfectly prepared flatiron. The gravy was drinkable, but my wife would have frowned on that so french fries to the rescue. My wife chose the short rib blue cheese benedict. I am not fond of blue cheese but I so enjoyed the bite I was able to negotiate from her. Highly recommended even if blue cheese is not your bag. We accompanied our meal with a bottle of prosecco with juice from an orange and cranberries. Ordinarily we would not mix juice with sparkling wine but why wouldn't you spruce up prosecco! Back to the atmosphere. There were decorations of the season artistically arranged around the piano but taking away, somewhat, the view of The Ellington's magnificent bar. Friendly people tending the bar with a menagerie of bottles, glasses and bows (stealing a bit from Dr. Seuss) at the ready for "Season's Greeting" or a "Seasonal Beverage". The piano player brought everything together with familiar melodies reminding me of other great times with my wife and family and of course in this great city. Come one, come all (plagiarizing again) to The Ellington. You will not be disappointed.
came here for a Saturday brunch with a friend -- the restaurant is so lovely inside and the food portions were very generous. Got a bloody Mary and it came with a strip of bacon in it! Best surprise ever. Will definitely be coming back here again sometime :) the staff were very friendly also
Very good food. I don’t think I’d put 5 stars on the food but the overall experience including service and ambiance is what makes it 5 stars. Nice for a bite and a drink but not the very top of my list. I enjoyed it but wouldn’t return.
We have brunch at The Ellington pretty much every other weekend, and absolutely love it. The food, ambiance, and service are always consistent, and the staff takes good care of us. Fernando is spectacular, and knows us well enough to predict our orders. I personally love the Steak & Eggs Frites. Highly recommended!
Just perfect. Food, service and atmosphere. It was a great experience having breakfast with my friends here. The food was so delicious.
The place is great! You have seatings inside the restaurant as well as outside..the menu is limited but the options are so good! I'd love to try it out again sometime.. For the veggie lovers, do try the quinoa salad.
Delicious! We ordered the Tuna Avocado Tartar (ask for more chips - FYI), the Steak Flatbread, and Quinoa Salad. Portions were great and staff was very friendly!
Nice spot for indoor or patio dining. Variety of choices from burgers to salmon to steak. The flank steak was a little chewy other than that everything was very good.
Fantastic place for a lunch date! Nahid was a great server and made sure we had the best time. Can’t wait to come back!
The service and attention Nahid gave us was second to none. My partner and I had a wonderful experience at The Ellington. Thank you Nahid for your excellent service. :)
Had brunch at The Ellington with my friend for my birthday and it was great! The live music was relaxing and the classic burger I had was great. Nahid was our server and he was excellent, he always checked in on us and he even offered to take our photo.
Just got brunch here and cannot speak highly enough of the amazing service we got from Navid. If you’re coming here for brunch definitely ask for his tables!
I had the Shepherds Pie Special, and it was so awesome! My mother wanted to go to lunch and I remembered coming here with my friend Kristen about 1-year ago. I'm sure there is another review from then. Great service both times and this time, I sat in the banquet and it was comfy and the space was elegant. There is a space they use for rentals and it was so sweet, that I can imagine some great parties happening here. I shall return!
A friend and I had dinner last night at the Ellington and were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. James was our server (visiting here this summer from northern Ireland), and he was friendly and attentive. When I asked him who he considered the best female Irish author of our day, without missing a beat James correctly answered Sally Rooney! What a bright young man! Thank you James for making my day!
Enjoy a very pleasant brunch earlier today at Ellington’s. Wonderful food, cocktails, and listen to a very talented piano player. I recommend it as a perfect brunch spot. We had a wonderful waiter named Nahid and I would recommend asking for him.
Possibly the best meal I have had in some time. Staff were great, facilities and atmosphere brilliant. Thank you Glenda and staff, this is Peter Corrigan from Cork Ireland. Go there, experience it, you will not be disappointed.
Nahid was a very welcoming server and made our brunch fun experience :) food was good, bloody marys were excellent
We were a celebrating birthday, party of 11 or so. All age ranges. Had a wonderful time and were served by a charming waitress and efficient help in clearing plates etc. We had a major part of the menu from drinks, appetizers, mains and desserts. No complaints from anyone. And they make a mean Manhattan!!
We had our Thanksgiving at The Ellington this year. It was a terrific experience! Turkey was moist and all the sides were well seasoned like a home-cooked, meal. Despite being sold out, service was impeccable. They give the same care to their regular menu, in a beautiful old restaurant setting. The Ellington is locally owned-I recommend dropping in for an honest meal or for Happy Hour, or both!
We just had the best dinner at The Ellington on Broadway last night with our two boys (10 and 12) and I’m still smiling about it. The vibe is so cozy and fun, not stuffy at all, which is huge with the kids. The food was legitimately delicious. The real highlight though was Glenda, the owner. She came by our table, asked the kids their names, and just made us feel like we belonged there. Super warm, zero pretension, you can tell she actually loves what she does. If you’re anywhere near the Upper West Side, do yourself a favor and go. We’re already planning our next visit! Thanks Glenda!!
Attended a private party here and was extremely impressed. The hors d’oeuvres served were delicious, and the wait staff were all amazing- pleasant, professional, and friendly. Cant wait to come back!
Fantastic restaurant! Nahid was such a kind and helpful server! And the prices were incredible for such great quality for food!
A go to place for me. Today's visit was the best so far. Nahid was super attentive. It started raining and was super quick in getting me set up inside. Th drinks and food are good. I missed the brunch DJ today but definitely worth a visit!
Made reservations for brunch, but wasn't needed. The place was rather quiet on Sat, but it was also freezing outside. Got a cozy window seating and loved the ambiance thanks to their floral interiors along with holiday ligthing right next to our table. Noise levels on the quiet side and easy to have conversations. They have a decent kids menu, and the Chicken Fingers ($10) were perfect for our little one. Huevos Rancheros ($19), and Vegetarian Omelette ($19) which was served with home fries and tossed salad was a good portion. Kimbo Coffee ($4.25) was actually pretty good although would've loved it to be warmer. Refills were slow to come. Food was inline with our expectations. Food arrived within 8-10 mins of placing our order, so yeah, really quick! Our initial server/waiter wasn't that attentive but their crew members were definitely more alert. Overall, pretty decent experience.
Very nice atmosphere, a bit on the louder side, so conversations require a bit of effort. Calamari appetizer was excellent, tender and crispy. Ordered the seafood pasta special, but waiter didn’t hear me correctly and served fish risotto dish instead. It looked excellent so I opted to keep it. It was great. Dessert, unfortunately didn’t work out. The lava cake looked great, but first bite tasted like burnt dough. Second bite confirmed the entire thing was burnt all through the bottom, enough that others at the table could smell it. Waiter apologized and removed the cost. Aside from the dessert, everything was great for everyone at the table.
It’s the neighborhood spot mom & dad take you to during the week, unless they’re in Connecticut and still avoiding you and your girlfriend. The food is never going to blow your mind but it’s also never going to make you regret not staying home to watch Bravo & ordering Chipotle. Wait, what? You’re going to want to ask for hot sauce & a salt shaker, regardless of what you order, including dessert. You’re welcome. The sidewalk dining experience is the best in the area. Besides it feeling more intentional, it’s well manned and well contained. Drink your adult beverage and watch the same people you see everyday walk by, judging them hard. Vibe is grown, never sexy & always chill. Fashion is if Talbots & Patagonia had a baby. The bar is the perfect perch to drink Han Solo while silently cursing out the idiots you work with. Unfortunately, the HH is mid, at best. That said, it’s got that classy, old white man bar vibe when you’re looking for it and that’s hard to find in the neighborhood. I wouldn’t take a bus or train here and I definitely wouldn’t walk more than 4 blocks. That said, it’s a great spot to be a regular at, because when you’re here- you’re family. Food: 3.5/5 Quality: 4/5 Portion to $: standard Service: 4/5 Adult beverages: 4/5
Very nice dinner, all American with a little twist. Good for brunch with friends. Nice menu, good service. Pretty much everything we had for brunch was good. I had the flatbread with eggs and home fries and it was solid. Eggs Benedict on salmon was good as well. Like I said, everyone was happy and there were 9 of us there. They are very accommodating and served us with 15 min of the brunch time left on the clock ☺️
These are notes for me. Might not make sense to others. Ordered: 1) Grilled Octopus (Appetizer) => seasoning, vegetables and octopus combination was spot on. 5/5 2) Tempura Cauliflower (Bar Snacks) => Great fusion between Japanese tempura and the sriracha and herbs. 5/5 3) Elington Burger => Just ok. Server did not ask how we wanted burger (we forgot to request as well). Burger came out well done and dry (1/5). 4) Molten Lava Cake and Lime Sorbet => both were good. hit the spot. Ranking vs other QSRs: 1) Food => In general, food was great for a local restaurant. Prices for the UWS is very reasonable. Worth the stop by for the food. 5/5 2) Service => Friendly staff but not well trained. 3/5 3) Atmosphere => Fun and well maintained. I would definitely come here for breakfast / lunch / dinner or just to hang out at the bar. I like the throwback scene to the 1940s. 5/5. Would I go back? Definitely going back. Little knicks and knacks I didn't like but atmosphere is fun, pricing is friendly and food is generally very good.
The food was great, first time to New York. This restaurant was my first meal of the day. Food was delicious and fresh. I gave 4 stars because our waiter did not check on us. We had to get the hostess to locate our waiter. Other than that the ambience was nice, seated right away, food came quickly after, love the idea of a fresh glass bottle of water left on the table.
Lovely setting both for outdoor and indoor seating. But food is mediocre. Definitely don't get the granola dish. Looks like what you'd get at a Best Western breakfast, with the granola looking looks it's broken up nature's valley!
Food was okay. Service was okay. Neither was befitting of a restaurant at this price point. We got a vegetarian omelette and a chicken with waffles. The omelette was tasty but watery. The chicken and waffles came as a sandwich, which was not mentioned on the menu. The result was slightly soggy waffles and very small pieces of chicken, which meant it was impossible to properly use the syrup and compote they came with without deconstructing the sandwich. The service was friendly, but slow and forgetful. Overall, not worth the price. I would give the food and service five stars if this were a diner, but it's an upscale café with live music and cloth napkins.
Had a pretty awful experience here for dinner starting with the host greeting our party. The older gentleman talked down to our group before seating us. That should have been our red flag to walk away but we were so hungry we stayed. The restaurant seemed to be understaffed because our the waiter was covering many tables service was slow and we were able to get more water or drinks. Our water carafe was also dirty which was gross The food was just alright, the pizza ordered was burnt on the corners and the burgers were good. The fries were subpar
I've been a patron of The Ellington since the opening in 2021. I've tried every meal service - from brunch to dinner - and really enjoyed having it as a neighborhood spot. Unfortunately, it's taken a significant downturn based on my meal yesterday. If I am going to justify paying over $30 dollars for a chicken caesar salad, I expect it to be flavorful and well appointed. It was neither of those things. The restaurant has always been warm and cozy, however last night I found myself eating in my winter coat due to the lack of heat. The waitress was lovely enough, but the staff all seemed to move slow. It took over 20 minutes to get a cold appetizer out to us to start our meal. Then entrees came and I couldn't help but think "why am I spending my money on this?". The food was bland and flavorless - my salad was overly dressed, and the lettuce barely cut up. They are always generous with their chicken portion, but 1/2 of it was rough and rubbery. Their basket of fries felt like whatever was left of their last bag - all crumbs and overly fried. I've had better meals at an airport. Unfortunately, I think I've seen the last of this place. It was always a warm, cozy and reliable place for a solid meal in the neighborhood....but now it feels like something you'd find in midtown - made up of overly priced, mediocre food.
