Love the environment and service here!! The food was absolutely delicious, definitely coming back!! Thank you!
Really great food and they take a lot of pride in customer service and quality. I love this place. Highly recommended.
Very good Asian food and pretty reasonably priced for the UWS! I got the popcorn chicken and it was super crispy and flavorful. Super cool intimate vibe with the chefs cooking right in the dining room. Definitely make a reservation though as it's a pretty small place. We also got 33% off because it was the Grand Opening! Overall, a great choice for a date or going out spot with a great menu.
Most authentic braised beef noodles I’ve ever had in the city!!! Reminds me of my childhood eating this with my dad! Braised beef are so tender, soups on point but not too salty. My only issue is the egg. Wish it wasn’t smoked and more cooked, the smell just made me sick :( Will definitely order again without the egg though!!! Highly recommended 👍
This place is amazing! I don’t leave reviews often but I just had to for this spot. The food was beyond good; especially the Crispy Tofu and Garlic Pork Dumplings. There was no wait to be seated and the service was on point. Our waiter Anan was awesome! Very polite and frequently checking to see if we were alright. Would 10/10 recommend.
Their braised beef noodles soup is my absolute favorite, a great comfort meal especially in the winter.
A Hidden Gem for Authentic Chinese Cuisine near Columbia University. If you're looking for authentic, flavorful Chinese food, look no further than The Tang! From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and friendly service set the tone for a fantastic dining experience. We started with the dumplings, which were perfectly steamed and bursting with flavor. The Peking duck was a standout—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and beautifully served with pancakes and hoisin sauce. Every dish we ordered was fresh, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, and they were happy to offer recommendations based on our preferences. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Whether you're a fan of classic dishes like kung pao chicken and sweet & sour pork or want to try something new, this place won't disappoint. We'll definitely be back!
At Qixi night, I discovered this restaurant via Google search. I must say, The Tang made it to my favorite NYC upper westside Chinese restaurants list. The ambience is very minimalist while the kitchen opens to the public. Tables are small but they can be extended on both side! The Sichuan style food is delicious. I ordered Stinky Tofu, Cabbage and beef Noodle soup. Services in many Chinese food in NYC are bad. But the Tang’s service is so good. The waitress and waiters are friendly, warm and pleasant. I recommend this restaurant stronly.
This place has so many delicious noodle options . I got the oxtail last time I came in and it didn’t disappoint.👌
I absolutely love it. My go to place as a student. Full of flavour and the vibes is G
Amazing, amazing chinese food. Pretty authentic flavors - would definitely recommend!
Wonderful service, wonderful homemade buns especially the bao and the shrimp! We had a great experience. Highly recommend!
Really tasty Dan Dan noodles. I wanted a little heat and the greens were nice and crunchy. Nice and courteous staff!
had a great experience here. the dumplings were great, highly recommend the pork+chives and there’s one with garlic (can’t remember the filling) that was awesome. dan dan noodles were fire too. service was exceptional and a really cool hipster vibe inside. would def come back for another round 😎
Just had the most amazing meal here. First off, the restaurant is gorgeously elegant which makes the dining experience that much more memorable. It’s not a large space but it is thoughtfully laid out. I love the bar area in front overlooking Amsterdam Ave. And the hand painted wall murals are beautiful. Almost every angle of this restaurant is Instagram worthy. Does the food live up to the décor? YES! So happy we got to come for a food tasting. We ordered quite a lot of food (for two people) when we were here. We ordered the fried pork buns, roasted eggplants, scallion oil noodles, pineapple fried rice with shrimp and the veggie summer roll. The fried pork buns were amazing. The braised pork belly melts in your mouth. This was by far my favorite dish of the night. The roasted eggplants were another great dish. The soybean paste and bonito flakes really helped to elevated the eggplants. The pineapple fried rice was great and I loved the shredded pork garnish. The scallion oil noodles had great flavor. The dish was smaller than I was expecting but the noodles were wonderful. Cooked right and not overdone. The summer roll was okay. We ordered it because it looked like it was a new addition to the menu. I think this dish was overshadowed by the fried buns and roasted eggplants. We also ordered desserts and got the fried buns with condensed milk and a scoop of the lychee ice cream. The lychee ice cream was surprisingly forgettable, but the fried buns were a winner. It had a thin coating of caramelized sugar and had a nice crunch as you bit into it. It did not need the condensed milk dip, in my opinion. I definitely want to go back and try more of their menu. Or possibly just order 10 plates of the fried pork buns—they were the bomb.
Bright, bold and clean flavors, beautiful decor and setup whether you’re on a date, with friends, family or dining solo, they make you feel welcome. Love the food will be back many times / thank you
Just found an authentic Chinese Noodle Spot in Upper Side I’m absolutely obsessed with its hearty bowls of noodles, broths, and small plates with bold flavors. I’m so satisfied with Braised Beef Noodle & Braised Pork Rice Bowl.
Fantastic Chinese restaurant! Interior is very clean and modern. The menu covers a wide variety of food, but is not so extensive you dont know what to order. I ordered the herbal chicken noodle soup and it was absolutely amazing. The herbal chicken soup might be an acquired taste but I loved it. The broth was flavorful and light and it came with an entire chicken thigh. The noodles were wonderful. Perfect amount of chewiness, cooked right to perfection. By the time i was done, i cleaned out the entire bowl, broth included. Definitely want to try more of their dishes if im ever back in the area.
I love this place! I miss it desperately (I moved away from nyc a few months ago). This was a favorite friday night spot for me and my partner, after a hard day at work. We would get the cabbage and cucumbers every single time (to DIE for) and then try out a couple new dishes.
Amazing place. Tasty Chinese food - feels healthy too. Love their chongqing spicy chicken and braised beef noodle soup.
My wife and I had the best time at The Tang for our anniversary. The soup was hearty and flavorful, the wine was cold and crisp, and the egg-buns for dessert were excellent. We got the Wolf Tooth Potatoes, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, Drunk Noodle, Spicy Aromatic Noodle, and finally the Creamy Egg Yolk Buns. The noodle dishes were quite different from each other and all fantastic. The staff were attentive, and the place has a classy atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.
They handled timing between courses flawlessly. The prices indicate premium offerings. Exceptionally personable staff here. Everything on the table tasted great and looked good. We're planning another visit for new dishes.
Excellent neighborhood spot full of locals. Great service, atmosphere and food. If you go try the braised beef soup it’s amazing and very warming.
Delicious food, incredible service. Try the Taiwainese Sausage and Savory Scallion Panckae!! The word “disappointment” left my vocabulary while dining here 💖✨
My favorite place for noodles. I always get the drunk noodle after a night out. So warm and full of flavor. Villa always welcomes us with a big smile
Ordered Braised Beef Noode Soup and it was overall good except for one piece of beef I tasted. Will definitely go again. The only complaint is that they use metal chopsticks and spoons, so they be very hot in hot soup. Be aware. TIP CHECK: - Tip before tax or after tax: Before tax - Double tipping: No - Minimal suggested rate: 18%
[5/5, New York, NY] Solid 5/5 for taste and price. What a gem! Herbal chicken noodle soup was rich and tasty. Braised beef noodle had amazing beef. The stir fried beef noodle had very tender beef. Salted egg yolk prawn. Mouth watering chicken (spicy cold chicken appetizer). Spicy wanton. Everything in this picture with tip was only $110 for 4 pax. Amazing price to value ratio. Would definitely come back again.
I came here for lunch with my friend. So glad we came here, I gotta say this is the best noodles spot in the neighborhood! I really love the beef in the noodles, so tasty and cooked very well. The small dishes dumplings in chilli oil and Taiwanese Sausage are soooo good. I'm also obsessed with their prawns with Salted Egg Yolk. Can't wait to go there for Happy hour next time!!!
don't sleep on this place!! Best noodle soup spot in town! I had the herbal chicken noodle soup, the broth was delicious, the meat super tender, and I swear this soup helped me recover instantly after being sick for a week The decor is minimal but effective, service was great -- I will be back again! 10/10 would recommend
I was seated easily on a Thursday night without a reservation. The food came out within 15 minutes, and the waiter was always refilling the water without me noticing. The Ma Jiang Mian was so good. Al dente noodles, creamy sauce, and fresh veggies. I almost took the extra sauce home with me. I would definitely come back here for a cocktail with a friend. The neon lighting makes for a mysterious ambiance and good photos.
Went to the Grand reOpening. New to the area so have never been before. Was very impressed. Food was delicious. Stinky Tofu was...very stinky. Paired well with the wine. Prices are super reasonable, the manager was very attentive and the staff are hard working. Dig the atmosphere although interesting choice of music playlist.
I got the garlic pork dumplings & scallion oil noodles. Both were very good including portion size. I wish the dumplings had some chives or green onions in addition to the garlic flavor since I think it needed a little more flavor but still very good. The service was wonderful. Very fast and attentive - my water was never empty. All the food was prepared fresh. The restaurant decor and ambience was also excellent.
THE TANG NYC is a true standout in the city’s dining scene. My recent visit was exceptional—from the vibrant ambiance to the innovative dishes, everything was on point. The service was warm and attentive, making the experience truly memorable. I highly recommend THE TANG for anyone looking to elevate their NYC dining adventure!
This place was the only place saved that up north in Manhattan (I am more of a downtown girly). However, I think it’s good for what it is! They have an open kitchen and the vibe is very lowkey, moody and actually, could be romantic. The service is attentive and very sweet. The food! The food is great! Chonqqing spicy chicken is quite amazing! I really enjoyed the spice and the chicken. Soup dumplings were great - I think it has a perfect amount of soup and meat! Kungpao chicken is great as well - not as spicy as I wished for but chonqqing chicken was for that! Must try noodles next time!!!
I’m a Columbia student and come here all the time. The prices are super reasonable, and one bowl of noodles is more than enough to fill you up. It’s also a great spot to come with friends and order a few stir-fried dishes to share. Highly recommend the beef noodles with mashed potatoes and the crispy salted chicken — huge portions!
A wonderful gem of a restaurant we found by chance, impeccable food and incredibly friendly waiters. You can tell they have put their heart into making their food. Best wishes to the restaurant, hope you make a name for yourself soon because you deserve it.
Food was delicious. We had the shrimp rolls, popcorn chicken and savory pancake scallions and they were delicious, especially the chicken. I had the beef noodle soup and it was so hearty, delicious and filling. Our waiter Galvin was great and guided us with recommendations. Will definitely be back!
Who doesn’t love fresh noodles? This place is amazing. The spicy cucumber salad was so saucy and punchy. Sizzling noodles have a bite and are a bowl of comfort. Freshest ingredients. The open kitchen creates a wonderful atmosphere. The service is uniquely sensitive and attentive. Highly recommend!
Great Sichuan spot just steps from Columbia! 🏫 The Pea Pasted Noodles were rich, spicy, and super comforting — perfect on a cold day. The Tang’s Fried Rice (with minced pork and preserved veggies) totally blew me away — must-try! 🔥 Affordable, flavorful, and super student-friendly. Definitely coming back for more!
Tang in New York is hands down the best spot for contemporary noodles—perfect for a fun outing with friends or a cozy date night. The Chinese food is incredibly authentic and absolutely delicious! Dim sum, chili pepper chicken, noodles, and a glass of wine—everything at Tang hits the spot. So good, so satisfying! Highly recommended:)
We had the pork trotters noodles and the oxtail bone broth noodles, and both were absolutely fantastic! The pork trotters were perfectly tender with a rich and flavorful sauce that paired so well with the noodles. The oxtail bone broth was deeply satisfying—comforting, savory, and packed with depth of flavor. The noodles were cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of chew. The portions were generous, and the presentation was appealing. Overall, a wonderful dining experience that I highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic and delicious noodle dishes. I’ll definitely be back to try more!
The Tang just reopened! Was missing my chicken soup 🥹 There are quite a few new dishes and the price was adjusted down. With so much meat and vegetables in their noodles this is such a bargain compared to the other $20+ shops. Flavors are good too. I liked the beef and the pig trotter noodles especially. Tried some of their new cocktails - cucumber flavor is very unique and cool. Will come back again.
We visited The Tang located in upper west side which the decor is modern with cozy ambiance. It’s good for a workday quick lunch but also perfect for dating. We love their Pork Dumplings in Chili Oil which was flavorful with great size of dumplings. The Salt & Pepper Ribs was decent but not as soft as expected. We shared Beef Noodles Soup, Cold Noodles and Spicy Diced Chicken with a group of five people. Both noodles were delicious with good portion and their braised eggs were impressively satisfying.
Loved this cute and cozy Chinese noodle shop on the UWS! You can watch them cook in their open kitchen so we loved sitting at the counter. Everything came out hot and fresh from the dumplings to the noodles. The vegetarian options were also delicious. Staff was very friendly. Please support your local and small businesses!
I've been here two times (although some time ago) and both times, felt like I was getting a pretty good meal in terms of value/size/flavor. There was never a wait and their noodles are fresh and bouncy! They also hold the sauce well. Their tofu appetizer with white sesame sauce was really good, too, and they literally served a whole package of tofu..!
This is a great, new Chinese place serving ”what people eat now” Chinese food. The only bad things are the terrible seats. They just had to make small, low seats that are made only for small legs. But the booths look good. Sit on the booths if you come. The atmosphere here is lovely. There is not too much lighting, but there is enough of it. The music is not loud, but not quiet (and they play ok music.) It was not too loud when I went there, and I went there when it just opened. The service was very good. The people that worked there were friendly. The food was the best part of this place. I highly recommend trying the steamed pork dumplings. They were not that spicy and they tasted as dumplings should taste like. I ordered the braised beef noodle soup. That was good as well. The soup was tasty and spicy, and the noodles were thick. The scallion pancakes were good. They were warm and straight out of the oven. But they could have been thicker.
Taiwanese sausage - great snack during throughout the meal, the skin was crispy and the sausage had indeed caramelized for a sweet and savory flavor Ma Jiang Mian - ordered cold as it is traditionally served. The sesame sauce was rich and delicious but I wish there had been more to evenly coat all the noodles. I will probably add peanut butter sauce to my leftovers. The chicken was also quite soft and easy to chew but still had a gamey flavor that can be reduced by marinating in sake or shao xing wine Want to try the braised beef noodle soup and dan dan noodles!
i ordered the oxtail beef noodle soup and i also tried their herbal chicken noodle soup (not pictured). both were very solid dishes (i’d rate the oxtail 4 out of 5 and the herbal chicken 4.5 out of 5). the broth for both was light but savory and had a home-cooked, rustic feel. the oxtail had small chunks of meat that were full of flavor and beefy goodness; however, if there’s one dish i’d recommend from here it’s their herbal chicken noodle soup— the broth is so incredibly good (definitely hit the spot for me, a soup enthusiast). noodle texture for both were on the softer side (i typically prefer a bit more bounce). i’d say my desire for this style of cooking is definitely more dependent on my mood/feel—perfect for the winter season or if you’re sick!
On a cold day after snowstorm, the group just wanted a hot noodle soups. The soup was lukewarm for all of us, thus disappointing. My trotter soup was too salty, so were the ribs. The salted egg shrimps were good (10 pieces). Server was nice, but service was slow because it seemed only one guy was around, warranting the 4 stars.
The Tang is a cozy, contemporary eatery serving creative Chinese noodles and other classic plates on the Upper West Side. It’s nice for a date or dinner with a friend. We had such a great meal from the Braised Beef Noodle Soup to the Zhong Dumplings and Tang’s Bliss Chicken Wings… So delicious!!
Decent place. Our waiter was very attentive and wonderful. The food was just okay. We ordered from the vegetarian selection and at the bottom of the cabbage bowl were bits of shredded beef. We’re not strict, but that was strange. The vegetable fried rice was just okay. The add on noddles was plain we asked for soy sauce and use the duck sauce from our spring rolls to give it some flavor. I left full, but the food didn’t really wow either of us. But again, the service was great!
Came here for the braised beef noodle because I've heard good things about it. I was somewhat disappointed by the soup. The meat was very tender, except for the edge pieces which were quite chewy. Noodles are on the thinner side. They had one server on a Friday night, so the service was somewhat slow. Overall, my experience here was very average.
After wanting to come here for a while, my boyfriend and I finally did it and we ended up quite underwhelmed. The atmosphere wasn’t very cozy for dinner as it was dark in the center of the restaurant but at the edges the lights directly above our heads were incredibly bright, which made it for awkward lighting. Anyway, the food. The broth was decent, but the noodles were. So. Soft. Usually there is a springiness to noodles that make it good against the texture of the soft meat, but it was all mushy. The meat though was incredibly good and very tender. I was also pleasantly surprised by the fact that they offered an oxtail noodle dish. Not sure if it was an off night but be sure to ask to not have your noodles overdone, texturally wise it brought the entire dish down and we could not enjoy it. Did like the fried turnip cakes though.
I think this place used to be better when they first opened. Maybe I’m mistaken but I remember the noodles were more authentic. This time, the turnip cake was deep fried and couldn’t find any pieces of turnip, texture inside was like a bowl oatmeal that’s been sitting out for a whole day. Herbal chicken noodle and pineapple fried rice were pretty good. The scallion oil noodles they serve was like bad lo mein, don’t expect anything close to the real thing.
No recommend this place. Ordered a pork belles and bean noodles at this location. Wait around 15 to 20 min to get it on the table. The pork belly is big but with large amount of fat also without too much flavor so it is very greasy. The noodle is not stirred well so some part is very salty while others are lack of flavor. The size of the dish is very pricey compare to its size. Cost $14 plus tax but it is a very small bowl. You might get hungry if you just order one bowl. This locations is decorated well and the waitresses is friendly. If you sit on the bar you can see chief cook in front of you. But I do see flys on the counter. So this place may be not that hygiene on the back. Overall, not recommended.
I decided to order the Oxtail Beef Noodles Soup on UberEats based on the picture and description in the app, but what I ended up receiving was clearly something very different (i.e., no goji berries, corn, pickled veggies, or Shanghai cabbage). On top of that, the one included ingredient that matches the description (oxtail) was unexpectedly tough. I've eaten at The Tang before and enjoyed the experience, but this product bait and switch left a bad taste in my mouth. If you're going to drastically change an item on your menu, please make sure the change is reflected in the apps that you partner with.
Ordered chicken wings from Uber Eats. Picture in the app shows at least 7-8 pieces of chicken in a $15 order (marked up from $10 on the actual menu — which i understand is the fee that Uber charges the restaurant). What I got was 4 pieces. For $15, plus delivery and other fees on top of that. Woof.
I ordered it’s delivery, the app showed that the delivery had already arrived, but I never received my takeout. I called them thirteen times before they picked up. The waiter's attitude was extremely bad. They said they had no one to deliver and I could only pick it up myself, then hung up on me.
I never throw away food, but this messed up my stomach so bad it’s still hurting after 3 days. I’ll spare the details but be ready to spend the next couple of days in the bathroom. Terrible experience, ordered through uber eats, went straight to the trash. Ordered wings, herbal chicken noodle soup, and pork dumplings.
Ordered the scallion pancake, oxtail noodles, soup dumplings and something else with rice, but nothing was really tasty. The oxtail noodles came with just soup and oxtail, didn't enjoy them. The scallion pancake was super greasy and the soup dumplings were small and almost no soup
I've had better noodles dishes out of packets. That Braised Beef noodle is dirty dish water, with star anise and bok choy. I had 2 bites, covered in chili oil, had another bit and it ended there. They still kept it on my bill too, which is really not ok. Im not about to get a slice at Mama Too because im hungry. The Tang.... the wang.
