My wife and I have been to Sushi Roku at Fashion Island a handful of times, and this most recent visit reminded us why we keep coming back. We were feeling a little nibbly on a sunny Saturday afternoon and wanted something casual that would pair well with a stroll around Fashion Island, sushi felt like the perfect call. The restaurant wasn’t overfilled, which made for a really relaxed, enjoyable experience. We were able to get a great table right away, and the service was excellent from start to finish. Multiple team members checked in on us, and we never felt like we were waiting on anything. One thing we really appreciated was how the food came out. Instead of everything hitting the table at once, the kitchen paced it beautifully. Apps first, then a roll, then sushi, it almost felt like a multi-course meal even though we ordered everything in just two rounds. It made the whole experience feel more intentional and elevated. For the location and quality, the prices felt very reasonable. Parking was a little tight, as expected on a beautiful Saturday in Newport Beach, but after a few laps we found a spot and it was totally worth it. Overall, if you’re in the Fashion Island area and looking for easy, casual sushi during the day, Sushi Roku is a great option. I’m sure the vibe changes at night, but for a chill daytime date or lunch, this spot really delivers.
I was concerned by how loud it was outside and then pleasantly surprised after being seated how well the setup mutes the loud music to allow conversation at reasonable volume. While I can't say everything on the Menu is amazing we did try a wide selection and found it to all be of high quality with the premium offerings leaving you well satisfied. Our bill was definitely on the higher end but again we tried a wide selection and indulged quite a bit. They offer a wide range of price points. The Oysters & Waygu were standouts. As well as the Toro.
Sushi Roku is hands down one of the best places in Newport Beach — and all of Orange County — to have sushi. The quality of the fish is exceptional: incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and full of clean, delicate flavor. From perfectly crafted nigiri to their signature rolls, everything tastes refined and thoughtfully prepared. The ambiance is stylish yet welcoming, making it great for high-quality sushi night out. One important tip: reservations are a must on weekends. It gets busy fast, and for good reason. If you’re looking for top-tier sushi in Orange County, Sushi Roku should be at the top of your list. 🍣✨
Had an awesome experience with Sushi Roku. I have a lot of allergies so i was nervous about eating here, and I submitted a contact request form on their website. The GM Rafael texted me personally and helped to answer any questions I had about ingredients, including sending me photos of allergen info. I felt really safe and the dining experience was awesome. Server was great, atmosphere was great, food was great. Awesome place! My girlfriend loved it as well, we went for her birthday. Highly recommend!
Our daughter took us to Roku in Newport Beach. For being our first time here we were quite impressed by the service we received from our server Austin. He was very attentive, and he provided excellent service. He gave us good recommendations. He recommended tuna jalapeño, beef dumplings, and chicken fried rice. I highly recommend Sushi Roku. All waiters are very friendly and respectful
Our Valentine’s dinner at Sushi Roku was amazing! We arrived a little early so we went to the bar to have a drink while we waited for our table. Nick was our bartender and very hospitable. He made great recommendations on my wine and my wife’s cocktail and started our night off great! Then we went to our table and had Trent as our server who was awesome! He was attentive and friendly and made our dining experience a great one. He recommended great dishes throughout the night which were delicious. And the hostess was very kind and took our picture in front of the Valentines photo booth on our way out. 10/10 experience and would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for great sushi and atmosphere.
We got the roku feast. Literally everything was great, i personally didnt like the Brussels sprouts. But who cares it was great. The white lotus was out favorite & Linda H was our amazing server. Can't wait to come back
Sushi Roku in Newport is one of those spots that has something for everyone, no matter your age, background, or dietary preferences. The space has a lively, modern vibe with a live DJ, sleek indoor-outdoor seating, and a team that’s genuinely warm and attentive from start to finish. The food was outstanding. The Brussels sprout chips were impossibly crisp and addictive, and the popcorn shrimp served with sautéed mushrooms in a flavorful miso butter was a total hit. The tuna avocado roll had the perfect balance of richness and texture, thanks to that surprising crunch of celery in the center. The cauliflower with pine nuts and dates brought just the right amount of sweetness and depth, and the Chilean sea bass glazed in a silky miso sauce was tender and beautifully done (you’ll want to order more than one). The salmon sashimi was also excellent, fresh, clean, and buttery. Dessert sealed the deal. We tried the chocolate lava cake, the cookie with ice cream, and the churro, which ended up being everyone’s favorite—crisp, warm, and absolutely perfect. Sushi Roku makes group dining effortless with a menu full of crowd-pleasers and a team that knows how to make the night flow. It’s lively, polished, and a definite must-visit in Newport.
Sushi Roku is always a treat, but this visit was truly elevated thanks to our amazing server, Genesis. From the moment we were seated, she struck the perfect balance of warm hospitality and professional attentiveness. She guided us through the menu with great recommendations, anticipating what we’d enjoy without ever being pushy. Genesis had an upbeat and positive energy that made the whole dining experience more enjoyable. She was quick with refills, checked in at just the right times, and made us feel genuinely cared for. It’s rare to have service that feels both polished and personable, but she delivered exactly that. The food, as expected, was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor—but it was Genesis who turned our night into something special. If you dine at Sushi Roku, I highly recommend asking for her—you’ll be in excellent hands.
Sushi and sashimi were very fresh and delicious. Their mocktails are refreshing. First time tried a sea urchin and it was an interesting taste. For dessert, the carnival cake is a fun experience. They burn the top foamy sugar and it reveals the dessert under it. Fun and theatrical way to watch your dessert being unveiled.
Food is delicious. Very suprizing menu you can have edamame hummus and pita bread in a Japanese restaurant. All small dishes are fantastic. Crispy brussel sprouts with Japanese touch was very very good. Finally crispy rice with wagyu was final point. I really enjoyed this restaurant. I highly recommend
An Exceptional Dining Experience! Our recent visit was truly outstanding, largely thanks to Genesis, our server. We'll be sure to request her on our next visit. We were greeted with a refreshing welcome drink, a lovely start to the evening. Every dish, from the appetizers to the sushi and sashimi, was incredibly fresh and delicious. The atmosphere, vibe, service, and food were all excellent. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and will certainly be returning!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sushi Roku in Newport Beach, and it was an unforgettable culinary experience! As a sushi enthusiast, I was blown away by the exceptional quality and creativity of the dishes. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a vibrant atmosphere. The modern decor and sleek design of the restaurant set the tone for a sophisticated and intimate dining experience. But the real star of the show was the sushi. Oh, the sushi! We ordered a variety of dishes, including the spicy tuna roll, the salmon sashimi, and the crab hand roll. Each piece of sushi was expertly crafted and presented, with fresh, high-quality ingredients that melted in our mouths. Overall, I would highly recommend Sushi Roku to anyone who loves sushi. With its exceptional quality, creative dishes, and intimate atmosphere, it's a must-visit destination for sushi enthusiasts and foodies alike. Highlights: - Exceptional quality and creativity of sushi dishes - Fresh, high-quality ingredients and expert presentation - Delicious appetizers with bold and innovative flavors - Intimate atmosphere and modern decor
Went on a recent date night we have been here a few times it is always really good service. Got the izakaya feast was a really good way to try a little bit of everything. The only hiccup we had that night was they gave our lava cake to another table. It was not a huge deal considering we came close to closing time and they made sure to check in on us frequently. They were quick and super friendly.
Delightful menu with plenty of options. Very fresh fish. Had spicy scallop roll and it was perfect. Spicy tuna jalapeno roll came with 8 pieces and was truly great. Service was spot on and ambiance with just right. Great location in the Newport Center. Valet parking makes it easier with the tight parking situation there
Newport Beach is not the area where we frequent. It took a while to find a place that was open. It was rather early for lunch, but we were hungry. So glad we stumbled upon Roku Sushi place. Loved the environment. Super friendly staff. Sushi was delicious. Seaweed salad was my favorite.
Great restaurant with super kind staff and delicious food. The food especially the fried calamari was amazing. We also tried the White Lotus sushi roll and the Sushi plate. Sushi plate was okay but the White Lotus was really good. The drinks were unusual, I tried the Sunkiss it was good but as a disclaimer it is way more spicy than you would expect. The staff was sooo kind and friendly, really helped us with our order. Only the atmosphere was a little overwhelming with low lighting and super loud music but if you are going to this kind of a restaurant, you know what to expect. Overall this was a great experience, and I would come back for the calamari!!! 🤍
Had a great dining experience at Sushi Roku. The fluke kumquat appetizer was fresh and unique—perfectly balanced flavors. The White Lotus roll was a standout: beautifully presented and delicious. Cocktails were creative and well-made, adding a nice touch to the meal. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but the quality and ambiance make it worth it for a special night out. Pet-friendly for patio seats.
My parents and I came here for lunch and got seated quickly. Upon arrival, the inside looked really nice. We chose to sit outside since the weather was pretty good and the outdoor patio was also decorated really nice. The seats were comfy and I was excited that they even had pillows too lol. We ordered the miso soup, the Spicy Tuna roll, and the Senshi roll. Everything was delicious and plated beautifully. The avocado on the Senshi roll was creamy and delightful. Also the spicy aioli was tasty too, it wasn't spicy for me. The fish quality of both rolls tasted fresh. We had to order another Spicy Tuna roll because it tasted that good. Service was good for the most part. We got our food pretty quickly, and they checked up on us alot after we got our food. Our server was nice but when we wanted to order another roll, we waited a couple minutes for a server's attention. There are see through walls so we actually saw our server talk with the hostess for a good 7-10 minutes before he came over. That was a little disappointing to see. Other than that, fish quality was phenomenal. It is a little pricey to eat here, but the food did not disappoint. I'd come back again.
This is a Japanese restaurant, but the service is far from authentic Japanese. I stood at the door for a long time, even during a relatively quiet period, but no one came to greet me, although several staff members did see me. The table wasn't even wiped clean before the tableware was set. The food, however, was quite good.
Everything was great but the menu prices. I guess it's because they have to pay the Irvine Conpany lots of rent and taxes. Over the last year we did notice that the sushi rolls have gotten Smaller and the prices have gotten Bigger..The chicken teriyaki was a joke . Everytime we order it the chicken gets smaller and very few potatoes. Whimpy Whimpy Whimpy. Get a clue management.
We stopped in after a nice afternoon at Fashion Island, drawn in by the dessert sushi photos online. The space is bright, with plenty of parking, though the floors throughout the whole restaurant were oddly sticky—especially near the bathrooms, which seemed otherwise clean. It was so sticky , my shoes got pulled off my feet. Service was visibly uneven. Our waitress left mid-order to attend to another table, she said was receiving VIP service, and didn’t return much during our meal. Other staff brought our food and helped with the check, and we appreciated their effort. The dessert sushi we saw online was never offered. We truly liked the food, buzzers, and male waiter who stepped in as we needed attendance. Our food came later than the "ViP" tables food , even though we ordered ahead of them. Some of our dishes came so late that we already put our chopsticks and napkins aside as we assumed they forgot about it. The bill ended up significantly higher than expected because a gratuity was added by the waitress without our input. The waitress handed her the device and requested a signature. My friend, visiting from Germany, wasn’t familiar with tipping here and didn’t realize what had happened. But she asked me in germany how the bill the male waiter brought was different from what this lady now wanted. When I looked at it , I saw that she had added a 20 tip. We would have gladly tipped according to effort—especially the other staff—but clarity would’ve gone a long way. We wanted to love it , and the review would've looked different if we weren't placed into the waitresses' two class service. The experience fell extremely short. Hope this helps improve future service. .
