Been in Dallas for decades and never tried this place. Friendly staff, hot delicious food. Tex mex digs that give small town energy, right in the middle of the city. If you haven’t tried, YOU MUST.
We ordered at 7:43pm by 7:49 our food was hot fresh and on the table. I have never had service this fast and the price for an enchiladas dinner was 15 dollars. I need yall to understand if you are hungry want good service clean environment come here I promise you will not be disappointed..
I have been eating at Tupinamba’s for 30 years. The food has stayed true to the original recipes and that’s a good thing. Hot sauce is made each day and changes somewhat keeping it interesting, queso is yum, their ice tea is fresh and “pairs well” haha with the Mexican food. I always get the biggest combo plate so I can devour all of their offerings. But….my absolute favorite is the Tupy Taco. Great family owned place.
One of the best Mexican places in DFW I have eaten at. The food was fresh and delicious. I ordered the lunch serving of the Carnitas, and it was more then enough. The carnitas had a light crispy outside, but we're tender and juicy on the inside. The rice was perfectly cooked and did not leave a residue or taste in your mouth like some places. The veggies on the plate, fresh and crisp. The borracho beans were flavorful but not simply "salty". Atmosphere was busy (good for business) but never felt crowded, out of place, or uninviting. Went with some colleagues during a training, but will definitely take my family when back in the area. Would recommend to anyone.
We stopped by spontaneously on Sunday 2 weeks ago. Parking is super easy. The caffe isn’t busy but also not empty. We were there around 3pm. The food especially the salad was delicious. All the other food was fantastic too. Very attentive service. Reasonable prices. Will come back when I’m around.
Guadalupe was excellent! Such a beautiful spirit, she made sure we enjoyed ourselves! Even the hostess and front staff were very polite. The food was amazing!! My new place to enjoy good Mexican food!
Wow! What an absolutely amazing experience here. Every time I come here it’s never a disappointment. I live further away in Plano now, so it’s been a couple years since my last visit. My friend & I ordered the queso to start, delicious.. For entrees we had Camorones in Creamy Chipotle Sauce & The Pechugade Pollo. I had to add on a tamale with chile con carne a la carte. The Camerones were fresh, plump, & so tasty. Served with a generous amount of sliced avocado & tortilla soup. My friend couldn’t finish so he’s excited for leftovers tomorrow. My Pechuga de Pollo, my go to meal was amazing. The chicken breast was juicy & seasoned to perfection. My tamale, with the chile con carne.. Illegal! lol. Juan & Martin provided the most outstanding service. I will be back! Highly recommend. I have never tried anything I didn’t love here. Come visit soon!
This is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Dallas. We scheduled a corporate business dinner with them and the food and service was outstanding. On evenings when we want to get out and grab a bite to eat we enjoy coming to their bar. Bartender, Luis waited on us and everything was so on point; from his service, the food and drinks. Great place, nice atmosphere, excellent Skinny Margarita's!!
Best Tex-Mex in Dallas. We've been going to La Tupinamba for many years. They've consistently been the best Tex-Mex in Dallas. The servers are always very friendly and knowledgeable at this family run establishment. I think most of them have worked there for years. Today was no exception. Always excellent service. The atmosphere is conducive to carrying on a conversation. And the decor is clean and contemporary. The food is always exceptionally fresh and tasty, well beyond that of other Tex-Mex establishments. I've never ordered anything at La Tupinamba I wouldn't recommend. The Tupy tacos are exceptional and they're simply not available elsewhere and shouldn't be missed. Like most restaurants, after patronizing them for years, I've gotten to know the menu well. Today I had a #1, which includes a Tupy taco, and many other Tex-Mex favorites. Rather than rice and beans I'll usually substitute for papas Mexicana (Mexican potato's) which are sliced newt potato's pan fried with jalapenos and onions...they're great and I'm not sure everyone knows about them because they don't come with every dish. This can be seen in the picture. They really go well with just about anything and are great on their own. My wife ordered the grilled catfish she loved it. I've had it before and, although I usually go for something less healthy, its excellent. I write plenty of reviews and I find it hard to put into words exactly how everything is this Tex-Mex restaurant is a step above every other Tex-Mex restaurant I've ever been to in Dallas, it just is. If you're in the area and have made it this far into this review, give a try. We drive past a dozen, or so, other Tex-Mex restaurants on the way to La Tupinamba and don't think twice about passing them by or the distance we travel because we know we're going to get the best Tex-Mex around. To everyone at La Tupinamba, thank you for the consistently outstanding food and service for all these many years!
By far one of my long term favorite Mexican food restaurants. Wait staff is phenomenal. Your greeted as soon as you come in and thanked for coming when you leave. They leave my chips, salsa and sweet tea filled to the brim. My waitress let's me create my own platter of my favorite dishes. Been a long term customer and will continue to be so. Not enough stars for them.
I’ve been coming to Tupinamba for years, and the food is consistently good. The flavors are solid and the kitchen usually delivers. That said, the details around the table experience really need attention. The chips are often stale, which is disappointing given how important they are to a Tex-Mex meal. Even more concerning, the napkins have a rancid smell, which completely takes you out of the experience. The food itself keeps me coming back, but tightening up these basics would make a big difference and better match the quality coming out of the kitchen.
I stepped into the vibrant atmosphere and was warmly welcomed by the friendly host. They guided me to the bar to place my to-go order. Although the bartenders were bustling with activity on a lively Friday, it taught me the value of patience. After a little wait, I received the menu, and when the bartender returned to take my order, I realized that even in the rush, small moments like forgetting a margarita or waiting for water can add depth to the experience. The food arrived in a timely manner, and while it was delicious, I could sense it might have tasted even better in the restaurant's ambiance. Overall, it was a decent experience, reminding me that every outing can teach us something, regardless of the day's circumstances.
I recently visited for lunch and tried their Tex-Mex lunch special. Overall, it was a pleasant experience with a few surprising details. The steak fajitas were the star of the meal—tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The rice and beans were tasty and paired nicely with the fajitas. However, I was surprised the dish didn’t come with guacamole—it’s usually a staple with fajitas, but I guess every place does things a little differently! The iced tea that came with the special was a bit of a letdown. It was almost transparent and didn’t taste like tea. It tasted more like water with a faint rea taste. Check the picture! Despite the tea and guacamole absence, the overall quality of the food would bring me back.
Older Mexican restaurant in a very tight shopping area just off of Central. Parking was next to impossible to find. Restaurant is cleaning and good order. Service was very good. Restaurant has a good selection of menu items. The chili relleno was very good. Recommend if you can find a parking spot.
This no frills Tex-Mex institution turns out pretty good renditions of the classics that are very well seasoned. The atmosphere definitely has that “shopping center” vibe and the service can be spotty, depending who you get, but the quality of the food makes it worth the trip. I’d prefer a spicier/more interesting salsa, but the puff beef tacos and sour cream enchiladas are some of the best in the city. Great place for a casual weeknight dinner with the family.
I think we were really excited to try some authentic Tex-mex food. The place just happened to be close to the hotel. The service was good but the food was somewhat bland. I’ve had better. I didn’t knock my socks off. I had the chicken embuelto and my wife had her normal chili rellano.
