Ethiopian food is delicious!!! Also, find Root Slam here every other Friday night, some of the best poets in the bay call this their home turf ❤️✊🏾
Service is awesome The burgers are good, and the onion rings with ranch are pretty tasty as well. Pesto Pizza was tasty as well, but the best thing about this spot is you never feel rushed and the people are friendly.
The service was very Wonderful and friendly they had Nat Bolden and Sharon and his Great Sounding Blues Band
I haven't tried their food, but I love the fact that they host open mic nights! definitely a lively place on the weekends.
Great environment good American and Eritrian food. Fun place to watch Soccer, Football and Basketball.
Hosts open mic twice a month amazing staff and great food or beer choices. African owned and operated q t poc safe space
Love the vibe, great spot to watch soccer, honey wine is my fav!
Wonderful family-run restaurant and bar. Excellent food, friendly staff, and nice outdoor seating in the parklet. A neighborhood gem.
I received the cheese burger and fries and it was delicious the fries are so delicious and the burger so thick as well as the tomato, it was my first time but I'll be sure to return
Comedy club very small but comfortable more of a family vibe. Supporting local comedians and up and coming. Food is offered
We went for breakfast one of the mornings we were there. People were friendly, waiter and owner was attentive and of course the food was great. special the foooooooool.
Good beer and great food. This is a gem in Oakland. Can't wait to catch a big time game here. Jameson and a beer. Good times.

Went for a breakfast and had 2 eggs w/bacon Hash browns and toast. It was delicious. Great Service as well.
This sweet little place is full of nice people and great food.
People are so friendly and the best onion rings i had n fries. Burgers are so juicy.
great people! Great Price! Great food what more can you ask for. The lamb is my favorite.
I checkout out the MLK Cafe and got my own personalized pizza for $5!!! You cant beat that price in the Bay! They also allowed me to watch whatever game I wanted on one of there TVs. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys sports, good/ cheap food, and who wants a drink!
A well know place for Eritrean community. But it lack hospitality and internal decorations. It must introduce new things.
I watch the warriors games there. Lively vibe, friendly staff. The owner is quite vested in the community, helped to facilitate the City (Oakland) sponsored sidewalk parklet out front of the cafe.
East African and American classics served in a dark sport bar. Kelwa Beef, spicy tomato sauce and carmelized onions — flavorful and comforting.
Excellent food with an attentive staff and friendly clientele. Lamb and rice with French Fries were delicious.
MLk has wonderful food and fun loving hostess. I enjoy every visit . We held an Award Ceremony there and it was wonderful. Thank You MLK
The hospitality, and the smells of food of this bar.... Are amazing. The owner makes this place SHINE!!!

The food here is really good. The server is friendly and they always have a game on the screen as well as music videos from Africa. It’s a relaxed atmosphere. Everyone seems to know one another. Very casual but the food is always on point.
Nice & friendly staff. The portions are large & the food is tasty. Spiced very well and you can tell this is authentic Eritrean/Ethiopian food!
MLK cafe created such a warm and inviting atmosphere here, it's truly a haven for coffee in the morning and beer in the evening lovers. Here ,the Foul and Kicha Fitfit, which are traditional Eritrean breakfast food are a culinary delight! Each bite is a symphony of flavors that leaves us craving more. Bereket Feday
The food is great, the people are great, the space is large with several big TVs. Good spot to watch soccer. I went to MLK cafe during the last Africas Cup and it was an amazingly good time. Definitely will be popping in for some games and tibs again now that the tournament has started!

MLK café is a great local dining location. They have great jazz once a month and poetry slams. I think everyone in the Longfellow area should definitely try the MLK café
Many locals visit this restaurant-bar that offers good African dishes as well as more common foods like pizzas and burgers at reasonable prices.
Good food. Friendly service. Wouldn't bring a date, atmosphere is noisy and uncozy.
Best place in the East Bay to watch world soccer. The food is solid and the service is fantastic.
Went for the live entertainment on a Saturday night. The band was spot on but the vocals could use some work. Decent crowd , food was great and the beer was cold. Who could ask for more.
A great place to get your headphones on and just zone in into a work session. I had the cappuccino and hummus, excellent quality for the price. I think if just the service / hostesses were a little more proactive in periodically swinging by and seeing if I needed / wanted to order anything else, I think they might earn a bit more. But overall a lovely spot to get a reasonably priced, high quality meal and support a local business…👌🏾
Good food. Good people. Kinda shady neighborhood.

Friendly local sports bar atmosphere. Food was okay, but the injera was a bit dry and I could have taken more spice in the entrees. Fresh juice was good.

The Ethiopian food is outstanding. Nice friendly atmosphere and the service was good. Full bar
It was my first time visiting. Futbol was on the big screen and I ordered some fries... ...and they were SMACKIN'!!! The atmosphere was lively and friendly. I'll be going back there when next I scoot through MacArthur.
I've had lunch at MLK Cafe in the past and thoroughly enjoyed the food. My friend and I ordered our dishes by menu number so the young server would not get confused. However, it didn't help, because she brought us 1/2 wrong main dishes. About 15 min. later she brought the spinach dish my friend wanted and we liked. The fried potatoes and shrimp appetizer were edible. The potato and cabbage dish was very bland. The injera under our food was dry, and we were both disappointed that neither of the main dishes were saturated with juices from the food so that we could truly "sop" up the liquid with injera as we have done in other Ethiopian restaurants. The music was very loud (we are Seniors and it was hard to talk). Despite my above comments, I am impressed that the restaurant is still standing strong, I hope, in the community despite the pandemic. Kudos to the owner!
Although not busy at all, the waitress was very slow to assist my friend and I. She had very little to no understanding of the menu, a resting face that seemed like we’l were inconveniencing her while to ordering, and spent a while waiting on food. I had to go up to the front of the restaurant where she was casually watching tv for the drinks we had ordered 10-15 minutes ago. But she had served other guests their beverages rather promptly by comparison. The drinks and service were sub-par; however, when we received our food, it tasted good.
A Culturally Rich Spot with Some Room for Improvement This East African Eritrean restaurant stands out for its welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of community. The people around are kind and culturally warm — it really feels like a family space, which reflects Eritrean values. The location is nice, and they occasionally host jazz and piano bar nights, which add a creative and relaxed vibe. However, one issue I noticed is the kitchen setup. When food is being prepared, the smell travels into the open dining area, which affects the comfort of the space. If the owners improve the layout and refresh the overall vibe, this restaurant could become a top spot for cultural gatherings and hangouts.

Food was ok .the service was terrible .it looks like they cater to there friends first than other people.youll see some random people walk right in to the bar section and greeted and serviced right away why others sit there for nearly 30 mins .

They didn't confirm my order through Doordash, and that caused lost time for the friendly Dasher that went there, and they even hang up the phone on me when I tried to contact to figure out what had happened.
first time ordering online at this place, after 1 hour I find out that my order is canceled because they no longer have the product... and I find out because I dialed the establishment's direct line... I have no desire to reorder here
One of the worst ethiopian restaurants I been to. Food is not fresh, does not taste good at all and service is slow. We ordered our food and had to wait for over 30min and we got something what looked like came out of the microwave.
I invited a colleague of mine to this place. A female cook was blowing her nose, without washing her hands, and returned to cooking. When we brought this to the attention of the cashier, he pointed us out and relayed the message. She laughed loudly and stated, "I'm cooking for myself, not for you." As if it's OK to be in a commercial kitchen and not wash your hands after waste is on them. Hmmm. Our takeout orders weren't complete. My guest noticed hers before we left. I didn't notice mine until after I returned home. I've apologized to my guest for having suggested this place to dine. Snotty fingers and paid-for missing food is not my idea of a great dining experience.
The weather been nice but then when there's no parking available it's not worth my time I'll go home have my own cup of coffee with Laird Hamilton superfoods I really would like to visit but then
Doesn’t close for an hour and a half. Tells me they’re not serving food…
