Hicimos una degustación de Mezcales. Excelente servicio explicando y aconsejando. Vale mucho la pena aprender y degustar aquí.

Increíblemente informativo, didáctico, y delicioso, tienen una gran colección de destilados de agave de muchas regiones y decenas de especies de agave. Ambas chicas muy bien informadas y buenas conversacionistas, pueden recomendarte mezcal en referencia a los que hayas probado en el pasado y también te ayudan a entender la inmensa complejidad del mezcal.

Hice la degustación de 3 mezcales, quedé encantado con la explicación de cada uno así como el método de preparación, sin duda recomiendo para quien esté buscando mezcales diferentes de gran calidad.

I came to Oaxaca to learn about Mezcal. Mezcaloteca has a reputation as an excellent place to gain high-level knowledge and to sample unique distillations. They did not disappoint. I was able to sample many bottles with unique stories, including a few I’ve been chasing. My host was knowledgeable and very hospitable. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me.

We got the 5 tastings package but ended tasting 12 mezcals between two of us. It was a great variety and with good explanation of the production process, the variety of agaves and mezcals, how to taste it etc. I just wished the host would tell us what the tasting notes should’ve been rather than leaving us guessing on some of the mezcals. It would’ve also been helpful to understand the flavours to expect from different varietals and production methods - although we got the answer after some probing. All in all a good introduction if you haven’t tried many mezcals before. They have 100 different ones in the store and you can buy them to go if you find one you like (they come in three different sizes)

My hubby and I both got 5 tastings which actually meant we got to taste 10. I appreciated that each bottle had the information about the mezcal without flashy colors or designs. A lot of interesting flavors and hidden notes highly recommend.

Intimate, informational mezcal tasting. I would have appreciated to start with some basics, like what is agave and how it grows, but we were able to get all those answers by proactively asking questions. We tasted 10 mezcals in total and paid 1300 pesos for two people. Patricia was lovely and very knowledgeable. We would highly recommend.

Patricia did a great job educating two newbies to mezcal and its huge number of varieties. They have access to microdistillers of some small batch creations with many wild and cultured agave examples to try. We enjoyed the experience and highly recommend this to anyone wanting to learn about this spirit and those who make it.

If you want an educational experience within the world of agave spirits, this is the place for you. My husband and I are pretty familiar with how mezcal is made, the different varietals, the different things that can affect the flavors where it comes from, etc. But yet, in an hour here I felt like I still only knew such a small portion of all there is to know when it comes to mezcal. Our guide created a beautiful sampling of five mezcals for my husband based on his love of Tobala. He was guided through an array of Tobalas from different regions, elevations, and blends with other agaves. Our guide curated a very creative sampling of five mezcals based on my inquiry, an interest in finding varietals that are more obscure and basically impossible to find in the US. The amount of knowledge I (attempting to) consume in the one hour wasn’t overwhelming, but it was intense because these people really know their products. And that’s truly a testament to their love of the spirit. But it’s not just the spirit. It’s the nature.. the people.. there’s just so much that goes into making a mezcal and that is showcased in the tastings at Mezcaloteca. I am sure there are other places you can go to try mezcals. And there are certainly other places you can go to learn as well. But La Mezcaloteca is truly an amazing experience that you shouldn’t miss.

He customized the testing experience for each of us. We had a great time. PRO TIP: drink lots of water 💦 💧! Not only to cleanze your palette, but to allow your body to process the Mezcal.

Had such a good time doing a tasting with Carmen. We learned so much, she made excellent selections, and the mezcal was stunning. Really nice cozy antique-y vibe too. We didn’t have a reso but they got us in - probably best to book ahead for the full experience!

Amazing experience!! Very knowledgeable staff. My husband and I each tried 5 mezcals, and the favors were tailored well to our individual tastes. We ended up buying a few bottles because the mezcals here were drastically more interesting than anything else we have tried while in Oaxaca or the United States. I love that they support small local production as well as female producers. A must go, book in advance!!

Sooooooo many varieties to try and so informative!! Our server/bar tender/mezcal connoisseur was so knowledgeable and was so good at nailing down on what to give us to try. My husband and I both had different tastings, based on our own preferences. It sounds like they mostly do tastings by reservations, so I would recommend reserving a spot, instead of just dropping by. We've tried other mezcal tasting rooms, but this beats all the others for sure!

Tomar mezcal no solo es darle el shot y que te arda la garganta pues tiene todo un proceso de degustación y toda una historia, además que hay sabores que en los mezcales comerciales a mi parecer no los notas y aquí te lo explican, tantos sabores y esencias la verdad si sales un poco tocado pero vale la pena. Y bueno el precio un poco elevado por lo que se consume sin embargo la experiencia lo vale.

While our experience wasn't what you normally see from their posts online (we may have come right when they were opening and the girl seemed new), we were blessed to have come in at the perfect timing. Teníamos muy altas recomendaciones y expectativas , sin embargo, la especialista Patricia que nos atendió estaba claramente a disgusto con nosotros, por lo que a otros clientes que llegaban les daba más información y atención. A nosotros nos descuidó y su trato no fue grosero pero distó mucho del tipo de experiencias y conocimiento que compartió con el resto. Hay una clara falta de personal para hacer reservaciones y atender a los clientes en general.

Es el único lugar en el que he encontrado pulque 💖 y está rico aunque sea industrial, vale 4€ la botellita, es una pena que la chica de la barra fuera tan poco amigable, nos hizo sentir super incomodos por eso no creo volver

Fue mi 3ra vez en la mezcaloteca y sin duda ya será la última. La chica que nos atendió tenía cero ganas de explicar y no se dedicó ni un minuto a sentarse con nosotros como si lo hacía su compañero con los extranjeros. Pagar $600 por 3 degustaciones de 1oz se me hizo una burla. En este momento estoy en los danzantes comiendo y pidiendo la degustación de 4 mezcales ($440) con medidas que van por encima del doble de la que me dieron ayer. Ademas, la explicación que dan los meseros deja en ridículo la que tuvimos ayer.

The walkthrough of the mezcal could improve by telling or reminding people where they can find the different flavors observed in Mezcal. In my opinion a bit too fast and Mezcal overpriced (I found some of the sold Mezcal outside for a small fraction of what they sell it for). Definitely overpriced

Decant mezcal tasting experience but incredibly overpriced. Really liked the space and the selection of mezcal. The education felt very scripted, and our server was not engaging nor interested in any sort of conversation. Almost came off patronizing when we asked questions. Your tasting is an hour, and while we arrived on time ours didn’t start right away as they were accommodating other customers finishing up. That was absolutely fine with us, but when the next customers arrived after us (within less than an hour), we were rushed out and ignored. This is also very expensive for what we felt we got, and the price seems to change by the customers, or how much they like you - other reviews seem to support this too. We did buy two bottles as we wanted to take some home - and after some more comparative investigation they were on the expensive side. Somehow the mezcal bottles also jumped $24 in price between when we asked for them and when they wrapped them for us….really couldn’t condone going back here after that and won’t recommend.

Buen lugar, la selección de mezcales es espectacular. Sin embargo, claramente está dirigido a un público extranjero. Entablar conversación con las personas que te atienden resulta un poco complicado cuando eres mexicano; esperaba un poco más de conversación por parte de la persona que me dio la cata, aunque fue amable, las preguntas para entender los mezcales y la dinámica pareciera que la tenía que llevar yo, a pesar de que era el único cliente en el lugar. Había otra persona en la barra que se mostró sin ningún interés , pero cuando llegó un grupo de extranjeros su actitud cambió y se mostró más activo. Esperaba otro tipo de experiencia, por el nombre que tiene…. Pero bueno, si tienen el dinero y sentirse un poco discriminados vayan, vale la pena probar los mezcales.

Ya recordé por qué dejé de venir a Mezcaloteca. Llegas, te ignoran, cinco personas detrás de barra y nadie es bueno si quiera pasa saludarte, están cotorreando en vez de estar trabajando, parece que te están haciendo un favor... No hay mínimo interés por ofrecerte un buen servicio, aquí no conocen el concepto de HOSPITALIDAD. Cuando pedí mi cuenta todavía me preguntan si quiero dejar propina 🤣 really? Soy local, jamás volveré y dejaré de recomendar este lugar.
