Everything on the menu looks fantastic, including different kinds of Mac and Cheese. The owner and staff were extremely joyful. I'll be coming back
Great pub food and a good tap beer selection. Our toddler loved the fish tanks and the staff was delightful and responsive despite them being very busy.
Service and food were spectacular as usual! Highly recommend the Sandra Bickert Sandwich as well as the fish fry with mac & cheese.
Love the Burger Duluxes fries and Sam Adams Lager in a Pint. No complaints. I will drop by at my next Allergist appointment.
The best restaurant in the north country. I would highly recommend recommend anyone coming here if they want good small town hospitality and even better food.
Absolutely delicious sandwiches and burgers, great flavors, not dry. Friendly service. Will certainly return.
Great food and just as great service. Anyone visiting or anything up here must stop in, their fries are absolutely spectacular and their burgers are to die for!
Great happy hour. Especially with the 1 Liters Draft and 10 Wings deal. Also very convenient for Clarkson Students! Had a Blue Moon with lunchbox and insanely spicy chicken wings!
Best Rubin north of NYC. My wait person, Daniel, is the best.
Have never had a bad meal here. Food is always hot and fresh.
“wait times are long” drink a beer. “people are loud” drink a beer. Every complaint can be solved with beer, which means they aren't real. great place
Medium wings and black amd blue burger
The food is really good. Friendly atmosphere and service.
We had burgers and they were delicious. The waitress was very nice as well. Nice little place to eat with a cozy atmosphere. It was busy but not over crowded. I wanted desert but was full by that time.
I always enjoy going to Ebens. I've never had a bad experience with them. Across the board, they have consistently good quality food and great service. The staff is always very nice. They have plenty of parking. I somehow always forget that they are closed on Mondays. I recommend their wings, Reuben, or Big Ben.
Drive through half way and stopped for lunch it was better than we expected. Family/kid friendly
The staff are fantastic and the food is so good! We try to eat there at least once a week. Definitely worth trying if you haven't yet.
This is probably some of the best comfort food and wings I have ever experienced. Big beers and close to Clarkson University, SUNY Potsdam, and not too far from SUNY Canton, Saint Lawrence University. Super laid back vibe. Really fantastic.
Food it's delicious and portions are generous. Staff is super attentive and even when stretched thin they remain motivated. Staffing shortages undoubtedly affected wait times but be patient as the atmosphere here will make the wait worth it by the time you are done.
The place to go for a tall Canadian beer and some spicy wings! Been hitting them up for over a decade. Potsdam has changed some in that time but can always count on Eben's for good grub.
Very friendly bar atmosphere, all of the bartenders offer excellent service. Daily specials and a mug club are two reasons to get your foot in the door, and once you're there you won't want to leave
The place was great, food and service was good. A little slow with the food coming out but worth it!
Grabbed some dinner on a Sunday night about an hour before they closed. I enjoyed all the choices they had for sandwiches including the ones named after historic people in Potsdam. I was too hangry to get out of my comfort zone so I went with a traditional hamburger. It was seasoned well, cooked just how I like it and still managed to fall apart in your mouth. Perfect meat to bread ratio with the Kaiser roll and just the right amount of fries to go with it. I’ll definitely be back to try some more.
Stopped in on a Weds around 6:30pm with my daughter and 3 children. The waitress was friendly and helpful answering the kids questions about the menu. They enjoyed the chicken nuggets and pickels! Our speciality sandwiches were outstanding! For 5 orders, the bill was perfect. Cozy atmosphere and good food!
Consistently great food and drink! All the servers/bartenders are great - Jasmine is amazing. Food delish! Ate here two days in a row visiting, countless years ago in school and still tasted the same!
Like many that were there for lunch, we were up visiting our daughter at SUNY Canton and when we asked local people where to go for lunch, they all said Eben's Hearth. Their suggestion was spot on. Cozy place, fantastic food, fast friendly service. Prices were great too. I know we'll be back.
Drove 3 hrs to surprise our son for his birthday. Server helped us set it up with the trivia guy and it was a huge success! Food was great (try the chicken filled platter!), prices good. We'll worth the trip! PS. Trivia was a lot of fun!
Food was perfectly cooked, I recommend their wings or a lovely burger!! 🍔 Everything was tasty . Ladies were so busy, but still made time to make sure everything was going well at our table
The greatest Reuben sandwich I've eaten came from Eben's Hearth. Context: I had an obsession with Reuben sandwiches as a kid and into highschool. I would order them wherever I'd go if it was on the menu. I'd get one after school 5 days in a row if I had the money. Unfortunately I didn't know the superior sandwich was located here all along or my after school destination would've been Eben's Hearth. Things that make their Reuben the best: 1) Swiss not provolone. 2) Russian not Thousand Island. 3) The marble rye is actually toasted with a light crunch to it and NOT soggy at any point during my meal (I'm looking at you arby's). 4) The corned beef itself was the biggest surprise to me instead of multiple layers of deli-sliced corned beef it seemed like it was shredded perhaps even slow cooked corned beef roast pulled apart into small strands, which is perhaps the best alteration as it prevents you from accidently pulling half of your sandwich out on the first bite if you don't cleanly bite though it which is all too easy with corned beef. Staff: The waitress was great she could have set the standard of what a great waitress is. The cook/chef made everything perfectly no complaints on anything even minutely. The Atmosphere: It was excellent it wasn't trying to be anything it's not, I appreciated the decor it reminded me of restaurants I've been to and enjoyed in the south. I especially appreciated that the lights weren't blinding, and it was rather quiet and peaceful inside.
A great place to stop in if you find yourself in the area. Good burgers and sandwiches. Some specialty local drink options include a big beer or a lunchbox.
We took our son for his 21st Birthday today. The burgers were awesome, and our waitress was wonderful. I wish I could remember her name. She brought our sons dessert and had put a candle in it for him! Would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area!
Our server was fast and friendly, everything we had was really great, and it didn't break the bank! 2 apps, 3 lunch entrees and 3 sodas cost us less than $50.00 before tip. And we were all stuffed! Dessert was NOT an option. I definitely recommend this place if you're in the area and looking for a bite to eat.
This place was recommended to me by another passenger on my flight to Massena. I was pleasantly surprised by the cozy atmosphere, friendly service and great food. We enjoyed our visit so much that we returned two days later and had another great meal.
We were a little worried when the parking lot was full, but after a very short wait we got a table. The wait staff was outstanding!! Even though they were super busy, our drinks, then salads arrived quickly. The fish fry was delicious! Reaaonable price. Great date night! Thank you, Eben's Hearth!
My go to spot when in Potsdam. Love the food and the atmosphere. The big beers are pretty awesome too!
My wife and I stop here to eat at least 3 times a month. Very good food and very good service.
We were pleasantly surprised with great service and hearty food options! We had enough food left for dinner! Prices were very reasonable too. We ordered onion soup, chicken pizza special for $10, soup (corn chowder - delicious, rich smoky flavour!) and sandwich ( turkey - 2 giant triangles with chips & pickle on the side) combo. Yum!
The food was great. They certainly made up for the poor first visit. Our waiter, Tom was terrific!
Stopped to get gas on our way home from camp and was looking for a place to get something to eat. This place was right there so we went in. Food was really good. Service was great. Prices were good. Will definitely eat there again.
I always have a great time coming here! If it’s busy, expect a wait, but to me it is never an issue. You can find a vast menu with plenty of dishes to satisfy yourself. If you’re looking for a restaurant that sells fancy cocktails and intricate dishes this won’t be the place. I always have a great time getting a bite here!
Meals were very good, service was great, food prices were reasonable, but the price for one 22oz. Coors light draft was $7.00 which is pricey.
Food and service are generally great! They don't serve Bloody Cesar's and that's a brunch must for me. Their beef tomato mac soup is delicious! Asked for seconds it was so good. Breakfast always a crowd pleaser and the hashbrowns are fried...what? genious
Eben's food is mediocre at best during the school year when it is crowded by Clarkson and SUNY Potsdam students but not too bad in the summer. Their prices could be a little lower for what you get for food but their bar is the main attraction during the school year. They offer a variety of beers on tap as well as a "big beer" size. It is best to avoid Thursday-Saturday night if you do not want to be surrounded by students.
Great food and service. Only complaint was the table behind us playing quarters on their table while we were eating. Got pretty annoying after awhile but I'd still eat there again.
I had the BLT on white bread. It was a large and filling sandwich. They were really busy that day because of alumni weekend, so service was a little slow but our server was very polite.
The food was good but a bit pricey for what you get. Service was good, food was out quickly!
Great food, great service! Booths are indescribably uncomfortable and unless you are a toddler very tight on one side. Time to update the seating.
Excellent American fare, the specials are always worth a shot. The tomato Mac n beef is a North Country staple, and in this Nevadan's humble opinion, the very best in the county is here, at Eben's. If you're a chocoholic like me, the mousse is to die for, just make sure you get a large, so you have some for later!
This place gets an extra star because Wednesday trivia nights are a fun event! The food is decent, but takes a while to come out of the kitchen. Wait staff is polite and friendly. Good place if you want something relaxes and 'homey'
Went here for a girls lunch. One thing I will say if your a French fry fan they have all the options. They have THE fries but they also have sidewinders which are not common but an awesome option, waffle fries and sweet potato fries. So you can have it your way at Eben's. I had it the Hilary Hitchman which was delicious. Huge garlic aioli fan and the only complaint I have about theirs is they should definitely give you more because it is one of my favorites. They serve breakfast and lunch overlapping on Saturdays which is always a nice option. The dining room is a bit dated and dark.
1st time visitor - Whoa! I picked a crazy night for a first visit...it was trivia night. Eben's had been recommended by a work peer so I wanted to check it out. I arrived thinking of the menu and dessert options. I was seated quickly enough at a single table with 4 chairs. I didn't know why it was so busy...there were people backed up at the bar and lots of folks jockeying for booths. Soon the 3 extra chairs at my table had been 'borrowed' by people trying to arrange seating. The noise level was loud and the atmosphere was busy. The wait staff was bustling around trying to keep everyone happy. I ordered a beer and placed my dinner order. The waitress was kind enough to explain that it could be 20 minutes to get food due to the crowd. Food arrived in about 15 minutes...wings and a grilled chicken salad. Wings were tasty...I didn't need the veggies with them. The salad was OK. The chicken was great, clean and large pieces. The salad was so-so...kinda tired lettuce and tomato. I'll definitely try again on a less busy night...never did get any dessert, it was just a little too busy for me.
Great steak although mine was over cooked. The young waitress didn't check on us until we were about done with our meal. The bar was loud. The portions are generous.
It was good, but nothing special. Food was good, and very good quantity to price ratio. There was nothing about this place that stands out. It is just a good solid option to get a meal.
I actually love this place. The majority of the food they have is decent. The two stars though are for me and my ND friends. A lot of complex flavor profiles and textures that may make it difficult to find something to eat. A recent change to their menu is what lowered the stars for food. Rest assured, if you don't have food issues, you will love their food.
This place was a lot better than I expected it to be. I asked for the steak rare and it came out medium rare which is what I actually wanted. The mac and cheese was pretty good for stovetop mac. If it was baked and had some browned cheese on top it probably would have been one of the best macs I've had at a restaurant. The coleslaw was the wettest coleslaw I've ever had but once I drained it it was actually really good. Pic included for how much wet I took out of the slaw. The service was nice and speedy and the wait staff was very pleasant. The atmosphere is so so, but the things that matter went well above my expectations.
Everything was ok, but not more, college bar that was a little run down, didn't have enough menus to slow service and the beer I picked was old. Busy with students and moderately priced
Delicious food. Alfredo is a must try, but service was poor. It took too long to get the servers attention as they gossiped amongst themselves.
I've had mixed experiences here. There have been times when I've been here when the service was horrible and the food was cold and disgusting and then there have been times when its been decent. Thats all I really have to say its really not the best place around its kinda meh I guess.
They charged us for tap water.......let that sink in. $1.25 for tap water. Wow. I will skip this place next time I'm in town taking the inlaws out for lunch.
Food is too fancy and you're paying more than at other similar restaurants in the area. Building is drafty. Servers are wonderful
Food is average. Some dishes are very good. Our waitress was in need of training. We could have had a much better meal elsewhere.
The menu and the food here are pretty standard fare. They do the cutesy "name the sandwiches after famous people" thing, which is a little tedious but I guess some people must like it. Anyway, I've been for a burger and a beer and it was perfectly respectable. Also breakfast was fine, if I recall.
Had an ok experience at Eben’s. Got seated pretty quickly and had good service from our waitress. Food wasn’t anything special, typical fried bar food. Was not aware of the water fee that they have.
Wife tried a ipa beer they had on tap. She liked it so she had a couple. When we got the bill and saw we were charged over 10 a glass ,waitress probably should have let us know it was that expensive. Waitress was very nice though
I had a so-so experience on my visit. We had a really nice waitress however the service was a little lacking. It took sometime to get our drinks (a pop and water), and refills took a while as well. We both had soup which there was no complaints. I did like the French onion soup. I had the special, which was a turkey potpie. It was pretty good. I don't recall what my husband had. We waited a while to get our bill, and waited even longer for her to take the payment. Overall, it was ok. I would definitely go back and hopefully have a little bit better experience.
We ordered from here for a work lunch, and overall, people liked it. We had an issue with one order where we specifically asked for no pickles with one item because the person it was for can't stand the smell of them, and there was a pickle so she had to throw hers away. I ordered the salad, and it was pretty disappointing. The chicken was good, but the 'salad' part was just what you'd get from a bag of salad greens at the grocery store. They added two chunks of tomato and a piece of cucumber. Overall, Meh.
Humble place to grab a bite. I've gotten warm beer served to me. My last trip I asked for the hot sauce on the side. They tossed the strips in it. Price is OK. Servers are nice enough. However I never have had a great meal and experience there.
Food is usually good here. Went on Friday. Place was 2/3 full but had to wait 1 hour for food (cold fries) and 20 + minutes for a drink. Wont go back on Fridays. Staff is friendly but need to hire more staff so people dont wait so long.
The food was better than I was expecting and everyone enjoyed their food. Service wasn't bad. The main reason this place is getting docked a few starts is one its pretty dirty, the bench seat was sagging and felt like it would give way. Worst the bathroom had literally puddles of urine on the floor, it was nasty. I'm willing to try again but some major cleaning needs to happen, I just hope the kitchen was cleaner.
Very average. The wings are very overfried and crispy. If you're in that then you might like it. I found the wings to be too hard. The Carolina gold sauce was good and you can't beat their 75¢ wings on Sundays. They said if you order them after 7pm you have to also buy a beer to get the deal. The fries were 6/10 nice and crispy very average. The shrimp was good 7/10 crispy good taste didn't taste like they were frozen and store bought.
3 glasses of water, charged $3.75 for water service!!!! Went in for a Saturday brunch.. Nope BREAKFAST ORDERS IN THE KITCHEN BY 12:45!!! 12:48 NOPE!!!! OUR SERVER WAS ON PAR AND RUNNING RAGGED..but with seats boarded up And signs clearly saying short staffed could see why. But she kept smiling and on top of our needs.. food.. not great not bad nothing special... atmosphere is clearly a bar b4 restaurant with 3 bars and noise to match.. first time here and probably the last. Next time in town will hit the dinner up for brunch.
They charge for tap water. Never in my life have I seen this. 1.25. Said 'service water' on Bill. Waitress was good, attentive.
Poor service waited for our food for over 40 minutes... after we pointed it out...they offer a 10% discount...more insulting....so don't waist your time....find another Restaurant!
Ate there a few years ago and it was wonderful. Food was great. prices were fair. Tried it again a couple weeks ago and I will never go back. Food was awful. French onion soup was cold. Steak was grainy. Bill was outrageous!! Never again.
Food is mediocre at best. Tastes like my 16 year old cooked it and didn't have a recipe. Service is slow, and by slow I mean slow. Never going here again. But we did eventually get our food and it was eatable so 2 stars
Food wasn’t good what so ever the wings were not even wings they gave me hot sauce on the side suppost to have 10 wings got 7 and they didn’t taste well under cooked in the middle almost raw
I heard very good things about this resturant so I decided to try them out. I waited 30 minutes for my waitress to take our drink order and another 30 for her to come back and get our food order. Once we finally got our food, I took one bite and pulled a very long hair from my burger. We waited forever to see our waitress, showed her the disgusting hair in my food and then we left. Disgusted.... we barely got an apology.
Don’t leave your money on the table when through with your dinner! I was in the area on business and stopped there to eat with my daughter and grandson. Everything was good so we stopped the next night to eat again. We left cash on the bill, including more than maximum tip. Waitress asked if we needed change and I said “no” . We were gathering to go and I noticed she did not take the money but left it on the table. We waited quite a while and she did not return so we pushed it to the middle of the table and left. We no sooner made it to the car , she came shouting after us we were short $20.It was embarrassing as people were outside. I swore I left the whole amount but I was so upset I just paid the $20. Her public announcement made me feel horrible and ruined the evening for me. I will never again leave a check at a table unattended. I still wonder if I made a mistake or something funny went on. Not everyone intentionally tries to cheat others . The way I felt I will never eat there again .
Nice place with good food that clearly has issues getting enough people to work there. Went a while back when it was very busy. Waited for 5 minutes to be seated. They obviously had no one clearing off tables. A server walked by us and never even acknowledged our presence. A simple "hi, we'll be with you shortly" would have kept us there. Once that happened, we left. Not going back.
Ordered a Steak and Mac and cheese, they ran out of Mac and cheese which isn't a big deal just disappointing. I asked for fries instead, got sweet potatoes fries which again isn't bad, but not what I expected, or asked for. The steak was cooked medium rare as I asked, but had no seasoning and was mostly fat. I asked for steak sauce for the steak and received a bottle of ketchup. The staff were polite and respectful, but the food leaves much to be desired at the prices asked.
It was very busy when we got there. We waited to be seated while a server cleaned the table. After we were seated we waited for 20 minutes and finally left because no one came back to our table to even take our drink order. I am sure the food was good but for no one check on us after seating not very good customer service.
Took my 81 year old mom to dinner last night. Stood at door waiting to be seated for 8 minutes. We were sat beside a table of 8 College students who were eating wings and drinking 32 ounce beers. Every other word was the f word. They finished there food within minutes, but sat and continued to drink beer. The restaurant was about 65 % students, but this table was the only group that couldn't respect the fact they were in a restaurant. Anyway, 50 minutes later we got our food, which was good. Our waitress never checked on us at all, and we had to take her away from her phone to get our bill. I would consider this more bar than a restaurant, which lacks any management, otherwise someone would have told the students to quiet down and quit swearing. Very disappointed.
Our experience was horrible all the way around. We weren’t even asked what we wanted for drinks first, we waited over an hour for just our salads, burger was almost raw and we were there overall almost 2 hours. The waitress was not very pleasant and was definitely not worth the money or wait. Will probably never get our business again.
This place is truly a disappointment and it hasn't always been that way. I have been going to Eben's Hearth for the past five years. The first four of those years were great. The food was very good, the service was good, the atmosphere was enjoyable. However, the last four times I've gone they have steadily decreased in service. I've been served almost raw chicken, a cold breakfast platter, poorly cooked hash browns and was on the bad end of some poor service. However, what prompted me to write my first ever review is the most recent adventure. My girlfriend and I were seated in a section. I asked the waitress if we could have a booth instead of being seated next to a large, loud table. While there were plenty booths around, the waitress told us no. We had to be in this section out of fairness to the waitresses and we could not be placed in the larger booth unless we had a party of four or greater. However, the next couple who came in (a skinnier couple) was placed at a booth in another section AND there was a woman and her two kids sitting behind us in a booth, which is less than four unless my math is failing me. This I could tolerate, but we sat there waiting and waiting. Finally someone brought us ice and then we were waiting and waiting. After twenty minutes of sitting in the uncomfortable center chairs, we left.
I asked for extra mushrooms on my sandwich, 40 minutes later I was told that the mushrooms were bad and someone went out to get more but was taking longer than anticipated. I told them to bring my companions food out and my cole slaw. When that all came out the cole slaw was mushy and gross. The “kettle chips” that were supposed to come with my friend’s sandwich were actually just Ruffles! When the bills came out my friend was charged $1.25 for her TAP WATER!!!!! And I was charged $0.75 for a scant amount of garlic mayo. When I asked for a box for my sandwich, I’d lost my appetite from waiting so long, they brought me a quart sized baggie! I mean WTH! Then to top it all off they charged us to use our credit cards. To say the least I will NOT be back. I remember a time when this restaurant was the cream of the crop. I’m not sure what happened, but it’s gone downhill fast.
Me and my wife went for a nice meal out. I ordered the special. Full racks of ribs my wife ordered the haddock. My ribs tasted like the are microwaved . No taste no salt tougher than nails. I told the waitress about it. She brought my plate back to the "chef" I was told that's how they cook them and that I couldn't get a discount. I have 2 dogs at home and I wouldn't bring them home for my dogs to eat. I will NEVER GO TO OR RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT!!!
Food was horrible and over cooked. Couldn't even eat the meal. The fish tacos shouldn't be a part of their menu to be honest, that's how bad the so called chef screwed them up. The fish was old tasting and fried so much it hurts your teeth biting into it. We ordered another beer, 2 Ice tea and vodka and cranberry and never received them. There were 8 of us and none of us could finish the meal. The only thing they did about it was gave 1 chocolate mousse for the table lol, that was on the house, seriously. Oh forgot to mention there were only 5 other tables that had people sitting at them so they were not even busy.
I ordered a salad and had to pay for dressing. It didn’t come with dressing even though the menu said “comes with your favorite dressing!” And when I pointed this out the waitress told me the owner says she has to charge, and my drinks were watered down I will never come back. I’m sure the owner could care less though since this is just a stop for drive through tourists what does customer service mean to a business like that? Nothing
Stopped in for dinner after a ball game, got there at a few minutes before 8. Waited a few minutes while one waitress was taking someone’s order. Another waitress came over and told us they were closed. The internet and message on phone both said they close at 9, she said they just changed to summer hours and now close at 8. We were there before 8. We were weekly patrons, probably won’t be back!
We went in today for lunch, myself, husband and two children. We stood at the front door by the sign that says, "Please wait to be seated" we stood for approximately two minutes when other dining guests who were sitting said we could just seat ourselves as some restaurants just operate like that. We went to a booth and waited. We saw another group of about 8 just being served drinks so we were being patient. At this point we've now been sitting in the booth for approximately 8 minutes and still no one has acknowledged us and we made sure to look over. The waitress even brought food out to two tables on either side of us and still no acknowledgement. Even if they made the attempt to drop off a menu so we could start looking that would have been good but they didn't. Again, we were more than willing to be patient but after 14 minutes total of being in the restaurant with not even a glance over or a "we see you but we'll be right over" would have gave us hope. We then stood up to leave as we can only keep our young children clam for so long without getting antsy. I work in a restaurant, a simple motion or gesture goes a long way..
Out on work travel and a coworker and I decided to go here for dinner. We get there and stand by the door waiting to be seated as per the sign and no one came, so we decided to find a place at the bar instead, nothing. We were walking through then told that there was a table in the far back but first had to make our way through the over crowded tables. Once sat no one came to give us menus, or take our orders. We sat there for about 30 minutes. Being from out of town we did not know if we had to go to the bar to order drinks/food as no one was around to make us aware. We got up and walked out to go somewhere with a better atmosphere (extremely loud) and better service.
Waited quite awhile to be greeted and sat down. A simple hello would have went a long way. Maybe they were short staffed or our waitress was new; either way they were not at all concerned with the fact that patrons that came in after us were served before us. Pizza literally looked as it came from Little Caesars next door. The wings were the only positive thing.
Server was kind, food was terrible, undercooked and the lettuce in the salad was brown. Will definitely not be back and will not recommend. Edit: to the cook: I took your limp, raw, flavorless shrimp home and cooked it. Note how the shrimp is not translucent and is now curled. That means it’s cooked properly. And add some seasoning to your bland dishes. A little butter and garlic go a long way.
