Immediately we were greeted by a nice host and seated for our reservations. Only had to wait a minute or two for a waitress, who gave excellent, attentive service btw. The food was very good and the risotto balls were to die for. We ended up ordering two orders of them. The pasta was perfect and the food was well seasoned and presented. The garlic bread was so good with the sauce and we ended the night with some creamy espresso gelato. Will be back.

I've been to Gravy before but this is my first review. I started my dinner off with the fall cider mojito and it was a nice refreshing but not too sweet drink to start off the meal. I then enjoyed the buratta salad which was absolutely fantastic. The cheese was so creamy, the dressing was the perfect amount and the greens were super fresh. I then enjoyed the autumn ravioli and it might be up there with top 20 entrees I've ever had. It was just so rich and warm and filling. The ultimate comfort food with autumn produce but not in an overwhelming way. My friend enjoyed almost the same dinner with just gluten free changes and she too was extremely impressed. What a lovely dinner, I will be returning and give my recommendations to everyone else interested.

Great service and great food! We ordered the risotto balls, pumpkin ravioli, and tagliatelle bolognese. All the food was delicious! My advice is to make a reservation because it does get busy.

Absolutely Love the Chicken Alfredo with Broccoli! Dine in with calm atmosphere or enjoy the outside patio. Today I got the chicken parm sandwich which was delicious with a side of the chicken and rice soup!

Great Find in Downtown Raleigh We arrived mid-afternoon on Tuesday and were greeted promptly. We started with the two-cheese charcuterie board — a generous portion with a beautiful presentation. For entrees, the butternut squash in burnt butter was incredible — rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The tagliatelle bolognese was another standout: the noodles were cooked just right, and the sauce struck a great balance of creaminess and savory depth. I ordered a Tito’s martini, which was well-made, though prepared with sweet vermouth instead of dry. The service was so warm and genuine, I didn’t have the heart to mention it. Overall: a must-stop for any foodie. The space, the food, and the service all radiate love and care.

I'd give this place a million stars if I could. The food was incredible. I was shocked at the flavor and presentation of everything. GET THE MOZERELLA WEDGE, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. The gnocchi was also delicious. If you are a fan of Italian food, check this spot out! They also have great mocktails if you don't drink. Amazing service too, everyone was so friendly. Can't wait to come back!!

I went it and it was pretty empty but the food was delicious and the waitress (a slender black woman) was kind! The portions are big but so tasty, you’ll end up eating it in one sitting

Gravy staff and owners...y’all are absolutely amazing, especially during this trying time! I requested an outdoor table for my wife and I as we were on a special date, actually our first date night since Covid and having a baby in May! I requested a rose on the table, and y’all did it! That is going above and beyond!! Now, the restaurant was super clean, and very well taken care of! The ambience was on point a reminded me of being in a NYC courtyard! The hostess’ and waitress were so accommodating and gave excellent service! The food was amazing! Great selection of popular Italian dishes with all fresh and homemade ingredients! I got the chicken piccata and my wife had the spaghetti and meatballs and both were amazing! The garlic knots were light, fluffy, and buttery perfection! Oh yes, the bruschetta was nice too, had a nice kick! Thank y’all again for making our first experience amazing! We will be back with more family next time! Kudos!!

Do not leave Raleigh without having a meal at Gravy! This is one of the best restaurants in Raleigh. We had lunchtime reservations and the lunch menu did not disappoint. Service was fabulous - friendly, organized, and very attentive! Our food came out in a very timely manner and was absolutely delicious! I personally had the Risotto balls as an appetizer and the Gnocchi for my main dish. Everything was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately I failed to take a picture of the beautiful presentation of the Risotto balls when they came to the table, but here is a picture of the "last man standing!" My friend ordered the Parmesan chicken sandwich and it was fabulous!

This downtown kitchen is a Raleigh staple. All the dishes were cooked to perfection, great portions, good temperature, and flavorful. Vegetarian and Gluten-free options available. The wine selection is great too and priced well. We enjoyed fried calamari & bruschetta (not pictured) as appetizers. Went here for girls night out and had great service. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Delicious food, best calamari I’ve had in Raleigh. Had the carbonara (added the chicken) and the bolognese, both excellent.

This place is very good. Lasagna is the best we ever had. We are returning again.

Stopped in for dinner and didn’t have a reservation, but they happily sat my husband and I straight away! I enjoyed the Frutti de mare which was delicious. Our server Patrick was training and he did great! All of the staff were friendly and smiling! Will be back.

Came here for Galentines and it did not disappoint! We had 5:45 reservations on a Friday- and by 6:30 it was fairly packed- if not fully packed. So if you can definitely make a reservation!! They try to source their ingredients locally as much as possible which I love. They list all the local farms, bakeries, etc that they source product from. Limited menu- but it’s specialized and everything looked amazing. We got the risotto balls, chicken Marsala, and chicken parm. All cooked to perfection. Definitely a stop on your gastronomy list.

We celebrated our wedding dinner reception in the upstairs space, and it exceeded all our expectations. Kaitlyn Ouimet, the manager, guided us every step of the way and was always available when we needed her. The food was spectacular, and our guests had an amazing time. We’re so grateful to the entire Gravy team!

Amazing food and very reasonably priced for the homemade quality. My son's favorite dish of all time is their chicken alfredo. You have to get their rosetto balls! I would recommend to everyone.

Dinner here was delicious. We shared two entrees, the squash ravioli and the mushroom risotto, both were excellent. Drinks were strong and tasty! Complimentary bread service was also good. The menu is relatively short and simple but it seems they have mastered their dishes. Service was very underwhelming, from the greeting at the host stand to the table service to the time it took to get our drinks, just not great. Still, super recommend this spot for a nice dinner or lunch.

The food was amazing! Our server Crystal also amazing! She was so patient and answered all our questions, made recommendations and was on top of all our needs during our visit. Definitely recommend!

We had a very favorable experience at Gravy for dinner tonight: risotto, calamari, chicken parm, bolognese, and gnocchi were favorite selections. We were grateful for our server as she took excellent care of our table. Well done @ Gravy!

We used Gravy to host our work Christmas party. We reserved the cellar room for the event. It was a breeze and a pleasure to work with them. Everything was just as we asked for. The food was amazing! The room was set up perfectly. Could not ask for a better experience.

We rented the Jiddi space and Courtyard for our Corporate dinner. The venue was beautiful. The bar & dining service during the event was great. I had a few comments about the Salmon entree having too much garlic. The booking and making the arrangements for our event was sometimes difficult. Often felt like I was bothersome to the event representative. Would certainly be interested in hosting future business events there.

Excellent food and even better service. Stopped in after an event in downtown Raleigh. The bread really sets the tone for the meal and it was delicious. My fiance had the ravioli and it was excellent. I had the chicken Parm and it was cooked to perfection. The noodles were a little too aldente for my taste but we're still good. Their sauce, served with the risotto balls appetizer was so good we bought a jar of it. Just a great meal, would definitely recommend.

Was a decent place. The Rissoto wasn't cooked properly. Still crunchy. Serivce was good. Food was above-average. The Gravy was good. Risotto Balls were good. Tiramisu was decent, Cheese Cake was good, not great. The menu is smallish, but the drink selection was decent. Lasagna has a good Bolenaise Gravy. Two people with two drinks and an appetizer + two meals with Tip ($138)

Went for a nice Saturday dinner and had an ok time. The restaurant is small, but clean and has a cozy atmosphere even with lots of noise. Like other reviewers mentioned the service was slow, but the place was extremely packed so not the end of the world. Our food was good, but our risotto balls were frozen in the middle, and my husbands meatballs were lukewarm-not what you expect at this price point. The drinks were super great and their red sauce is wonderful!! Nice staff and clean restrooms.

We had a really nice lunch at Gravy. The atmosphere was warm and inviting — perfect for a cozy date spot. They have some great booth seating and lots of tables set up for parties of two, which makes it feel intimate and relaxed. Definitely a place we’d visit again for a casual lunch or a night out.

This was my first time at Gravy and I really enjoyed my experience! The eggplant pie with the penne pasta was delicious, I ate the entire plate. The service is great and the atmosphere has a cozy vibe. I would highly recommend dining here!

Not bad for NC Italian. Garlic knots were nice and garlicky. Most everyone enjoyed their dishes. Salads are huge. The only downside was the eggplant... It was cold but they took it back to reheat it.

Located in the downtown area of Raleigh, Gravy has been around for a couple of decades which tells you that it must be good. Service was excellent! Can’t remember our server’s name but it was Italian sounding because we even joked about it. GRAVY = pasta sauce, that’s how the Italians refer to it. The calamari was one of the very best I’ve ever had, as well as the chopped salad. And the complimentary garlic knots was the bomb. I would return in a heartbeat for the appetizers and the great and friendly service. Parking is available across the street.

Great service!! Our wait person, Hippie was awesome!! Both attentive and kind. Great recommendations, and quick service! The food was pretty tasty, garlic knots were delicious! I had the lasagna and my friend had the gnocchi, both were yummy! The drinks as well, I had sweet tea, and it exceeded my alabama standards, and my friend had a cocktail which she enjoyed! My only complaint was that the cheesecake was covered in too much syrup, it was better plain!!

My friend and I visited Gravy on 2/18/23 and had a wonderful experience! Our reservation was at 7:00 PM and the hostess seated us promptly at 7. Christy was our server and the service she provided was a 5/5. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food was good too! My friend and I both ordered salads and chicken Parmesan. She also ordered the risotto balls. The salads were great and the chicken was great too. The risotto balls were ok, I wouldn’t order them in the future. We also ordered drinks and they arrived quickly and were great.

The food was very flavorful. I loved my leek gnocchi and the Caesar salad. My husband had the carbonara and says it was day changing but not life changing. The staff was all very nice but the service was slow. Overall, the dinner was satisfying.

I was really holding out hope for this place after all of the mixed reviews. I can confidently say, it's not that great. The service was great though! The staff was very nice. The food presentation was decent but sadly the quality and flavor of the food fell short. It was all hefty portions but it was bland and my steak was cold and dry like there was a failed attempt to let it rest. Now that I think of it, nobody asked me how I wanted it cooked.... Anyway, my husband and I were underwhelmed and disappointed. The price of each dish was WAY overpriced for the quality. I don't think we'll be going back.

Had reservations, so we were seated quickly, and once seated, our drinks were ordered. The drinks were great, but unfortunately, the food took forever to arrive and was subpar. The flat bread was served lukewarm. The salmon I added to my salad was overcooked in parts and had absolutely no flavor. The server was apologetic and took it off the bill. She was super nice, although I am sure she forgot my side of fries since by the time she brought them out, I was over my salad. When they came out, they were hot but too crispy and greasy to enjoy. My party seemed to have better luck with the chicken alfredo and caesar salad but commented how the chicken lacked flavor. Once my drink was gone, I was ready to leave. The bill came and was incorrect. We were mistakingly charged for a glass of wine.

V

The food itself was great, but service was off. We asked for an extra minute to finalize what we wanted, but it was almost 15 before the waitress came back around. We ordered 3 courses, and the mains came out before we were half way done with the apps, and were hardly lukewarm by the time we could try a bite. It felt a bit rushed and impersonal.

I have eaten at a lot of Italian spots and I would have to say I was a little disappointed with the risotto at this one. I am a risotto lover, but also a risotto snob, and anywhere I go that has it I will give it a try. For one I think the flavor from the mushrooms were a little overpowering giving off too much of an earthy taste. Blended with other vegetables along with the scallops just didn't work for me. I was also disappointed for such a shallow dish to also only have 3 scallops for $33. On top of that they ran out of Tiramisu. How can an Italian restaurant run out of their most beloved desert on a Saturday by 730p? Nonetheless, this is only my opinion of my experience. My friends seemed to enjoy their meals. Would I eat here again? Most likely, I would. I would probably choose something with a red gravy!

We tried a few different apps and entrees. The bruschetta pizza, risotto balls and vodka ravioli were yum. The chicken parmigiana was a let down. The sphagetti was chewy with very little gravy. The biggest disappointment of the night was definitely the service. The server was not friendly at all. At times, i felt like she was rude.

We came for dinner around 8pm Saturday night. Unfortunately they were out of a lot of things like gnocchi and chicken parm, and it took a while to get our food after ordering. We got the carbonara, vodka ravioli, scallop risotto, margarita pizza and chicken cacciatore. The carbonara and ravioli were good, the chicken cacciatore and scallop risotto were ok. I wasn’t a fan of the margarita pizza, but the tiramisu was really good and probably my favorite item out of everything.

I was told by numerous people to check out Gravy as the food was amazing. Amazing was a stretch as the gnocchi that was recommended as well was super rich, thick, and heavy. There was a lack of flavor, but heavy on the sauce and cream. I think due to this, the flavor of the peppers and other seasonings were drowned out. Three stars overall for the service and the people. My server was very kind and helpful. When she asked if I liked the gnocchi and I was honest with her, she quickly asked me what else I wanted, asked no questions, and got me something else. I decided to order the salada sandwich, which was a grilled mushroom pattie topped with grilled tomatoes and spinach. It lacked a lot of flavor, but adding the Caesar dressing and parmessian cheese helped. The food does not live up to its name or reputation, and that is why I won't return. Continue to have amazing service while improving the food!

Disappointed in the Sauce, it was very salty. Some of the best calamari and bruschetta ever. The man that was seating us seems to be very grumpy that you don’t have a reservation… even if the restaurant is LITERALLY empty. So I guess make a reservation lol

I dropped in one evening while in the area. No real plans to come here, just famished. The service here is great. My waiter was Nate. Nate did a great job checking in often and keeping me hydrated anytime my glass of water was low. The restaurant is clean. Very comfortable seating here. The food was okay. I feel the best thing was the garlic knots and fettucini alfredo. My all-time favorite and go-to Italian - American style entree order is the chicken parmesan & fettuccini alfredo. I love the white and red sauce together. I guess this wasn't understood and the chicken parm wasn't marinated properly. I had to do the work of getting the red sauce over my chicken by asking for extra gravy. The chicken parmesan was flavored well. Overall: The calamari appetizer had a great flavor but the batter was not coated well and it fell off. I do feel calamari and the chicken was perhaps cooked too fast. I felt the inside of the chicken texture was weird for me which came from cooking too fast. The same for the risotto ball appetizer- - cooked too fast! These were Fried Arborio rice stuffed with fontina served over gravy (tomato sauce). The flavor was everything and I enjoyed that part but everything seemed to be cooked too fast. The rice stuffed in the balls wasn't piping hot like the external. Gravy didn't win my heart this time. I guess I may need to try one of the more popular dishes. I felt it was hard to mess up Chicken Parm, but for me, it fell short here.

I was pretty disappointed with the service here. I wanted to give our server the benefit of the doubt because she was making drinks and had other tables to take care of but this is a small restaurant. I have worked in the service industry for 10 years and I was a bartender, made my drinks while serving 8 plus tables and was more attentive than she was. A lot of my friends at the table are servers as well and we were all disappointed. We were there for around 2 hours and I think she came up to us maybe 4 times. One of us had to go up to her to get our checks. Only silver lining was that the food was great, but I will not be returning.

A
Alex Knop

Came for some beers, calamari, and spaghetti and meatballs. Calamari was delicious but there were about 4 calamari and 40 hot peppers, so I felt I got a little ripped off on calamari. The meatball was COLD in my spaghetti and meatballs, I had to send it back. When they brought out a new dish, they had taken my old dish and recooked the same meatballs. I could tell cause it was the same half meatball I cut into. The meatball was warm but the outside was crispy. They should have redone it all together in my opinion to make it right. Service was great and they did comp the meal, but pretty disappointed in the food.

Not a good night. Long time customer and this is my first bad review of this restaurant. Simple spaghetti & meatball order, that I have ordered many times, but this time I think I was given 2 kids meals instead of the adult size that I ordered. The spaghetti was 1/2 the portion as given in the past, luke warm and a bit rubbery. Almost like I got the leftovers in the bottom of the pot. I probably would have been happy if it were hot & fresh. Maybe this is the new Togo order size of future. It’s Sunday so it was half off but $25 for this on a regular night seems like a rip-off.

V
Vanessa Ringstaff

I was very VERY disappointed. The first time I ate ate Gravy it was great. It’s been 2 years. When we got there today, there were only people at one other table. We sat I ordered fast forward- we got the complimentary bread about 10 minutes after ordering (not too long) it was gross. Well it was just bread I guess. They stopped serving the garlic knots, I was informed they cut them up now because prices were rising. Now for the actual meal. I ordered chicken Alfredo, ounce again informed that it no longer comes with the broccolini. $22 for the pasta, $5 for a side of broccolini. When I got the food, I was already disappointed with the food because of the portion of noodles that seemed to be missing. Seems like they used my side of broccolini to fill a big gap in the plate. I started cutting up the noodles and broccolini for my son to eat, then I took a bite. I almost CHOKED. That is how salty it was. Like literally so salty my tongue and throat were burning. I did appreciate the servers attempt to get the kitchen to somehow fix it but basically there wasn’t another option. The only reason for 2 stars is because of the staff and because I’ve previously eaten here. The food from this visit is a BIG 0000 though. I left with a headache and a stomachache after wasting an hour trying to eat. The food looked lovely when it came out BUT someone didn’t get the memo that salt is a flavor enhancer NOT a flavoring. I kid you not it tasted like they just dumped salt (and a very minimal amount of other seasoning) on Everything. VERY disappointed with how it turned out this time. Gave it a try despite seeing all the recent bad reviews. The last picture is what I left there, the chicken thank god was edible but only the hard end parts of the broccolini were edible because it tasted like they also dumped salt on the top parts of it.

Me and the wife wanted to celebrate valentine's day before the crowds, plus we have heard so many great things about Gravy. I called the day before to setup reservations and I specifically asked for outside seating. The lady told me it wouldn't be a problem if weather was good. Came in today. Told the hostess 3 times I reserved a outside table. Finally on the 4th time with a stronger tone of voice I asked again for the outside table I reserved. That's when we were seated at a inside table and told they weren't doing outside tables. Ordered the apple cider cocktail, risotto balls, spaghetti and meatballs, tagliatelle bolognese. The Apple cider cocktail tasted like ginger ale with lemon. Both me wife and I did not taste any apple. My tagliatelle bolognese was okay. My wife's spaghetti sauce tasted like it came from a can, the meatballs were overly peppered. The risotto balls are the highlight of this meal. Something that good must be sinful. Soft but crunchy exterior, delicate and rich on flavor in the inside. Ultimately spent $90 at gravy just to go down the street and spend $20 McDonald's. I don't know if the cooking was a off night, but it happens i get it. Our server was amazing and helpful. The hostess was uncaring, and non responsive. She seemed very vacant.

When someone orders and spends over $100 on a meal the one job you have is to make sure the food is IN the BAG. I’m so sick of ordering take out and people cannot seem to figure this out! Bag was sealed and only had 4 boxes despite ordering 5 items. Also no utensils? I get better service from a $10 fast food drive thru order.

This restaurant was a dire disappointment. Perhaps the fact that it was quite empty when we walked in on a Friday night around 8:30 pm should have been an indication that the food was not great. The server was great but the food was terrible. The pasta was dense and the eggplant parm was a mushy mess. The carbonara was over creamed and, again, the pasta was too dense. I would steer anyone with a reasonably sensitive palate away from this establishment. The only thing it has going for it is its central location in downtown Raleigh.

C
Callie Twiss

Ordered bruschetta & spaghetti and meatballs via Uber Eats, waited my hour wait time due to distance. When food arrived I started with bruschetta, baguettes were HORRENDOUSLY burnt. Couldn’t even eat them. But the cherry on top was the severely undercooked meatballs and rubbery pasta. I was debating McDonald’s or Gravy, should have went McDonald’s. Over 50 dollars for food and delivery for food, I couldn’t even eat.

Probably one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in recent years. When we walked in, it took about five minutes to even be acknowledged and nearly ten minutes total to be seated despite having a reservation and the restaurant being completely empty. After being seated, we waited again before anyone approached the table. Eventually, someone asked if we had been helped and took our drink order. About ten minutes later, my drink arrived, but my date’s simple sweet tea did not. That didn’t arrive until much later after our food was already served. It took another ten minutes to place our order and about twenty minutes for the food to arrive. Unfortunately, the food was just as disappointing as the service. I ordered the gnocchi, which I’ve had here multiple times before and always loved. This time it was dense and tasted like dough bricks. I’m not sure what happened in the kitchen, but I’m surprised it was even sent out. The most frustrating part was that this was at 3:15 in the afternoon not during a rush and the restaurant was empty. The staff seemed uninterested and disengaged the entire time. Everyone can have an off night, and I could excuse a mistake with the food. But poor service, poor food, and an empty restaurant make it hard to justify returning. Unfortunately, this will probably be my last visit.

I’ve been here 3x for my birthday. This has to be the worst experience. Ordered the scallop risotto which was delivered to our table by the manager. Burnt. Burnt scallops are horrendous. Granted I know they’re not chasing a Michelin. Though burnt scallops… the size of nickels. No thank you. Our server seemed dumbfounded and couldn’t comprehend anything we said. The manager offered me tiramisu for my troubles. My husband ordered a cheesecake. Only the cheesecake came to the table. Even though I told the manager I’m happy to pay for our meal. I decided to stay quiet about the tiramisu. At this point I was exhausted and just wanted my check. Perhaps I watch too many cooking shows and my expectations are higher than most. Will not be back ever.
