Sabroso Mexican Restaurant

Stopped in for an early dinner and was treated to a classic "don't judge a book by its cover" experience. We got the queso appetizer and it came out looking very thin and runny. The flavor was INSANE! SO delicious (and it thickened as it cooled). Salsa is fresh and incredible, and we both got enchiladas and they were top notch. Definitely going to be a favorite dinner date spot going forward, and our server was really friendly and on top of everything. Definitely check it out!

We went to Sobrosa's for the first time and had a great experience. The decor is really nice with very attractive murals and beautiful furniture. Wait staff was friendly, helpful, etc. The food was excellent, and the sangria was the absolute best I've had. There's no doubt that we will return.

Walking in to Sabroso is true eye candy. The artwork alone embraces and warms the soul. It's like you've walk right in to Mexico. The staff is friendly and the service is phenomenal. I can't say enough about the food. Great presentation and the food tastes fabulous.

Sabroso is a clean authentic mexican restaurant. Their chips, salsa and guacamole are better than most similar Mexican restaurants. The food is always good, and there is a great variety and price range to choose from. The atmosphere is traditional and so is the background music, a nice treat. Service is excellent and the staff are pleasant and attentive. Plenty of parking. Looking forward to patio dining next year. One suggestion I have..include a better selection of red wine by the glass Riojo or Malbec. “Barefoot” wine just doesn’t cut it.

My go-to spot whenever I find myself passing through Red Hook/Kingston. Food is amazing, and the service of the staff is unmatched! I would definitely rate this as the best AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurant in the area. Highly recommended.

Excellent authentic Mexican food. Fresh, high quality, and generous ingredients. Very cool decor and art decorate the place. The seafood stew (mariscada) is excellent. The traditional tacos are spot on.

My wife and I have eaten here a handful of times. The staff is extremely friendly, and the service is very quick. The food is good, but definitely isn't going to knock your socks off. It seems that the last few times we've been here, the drinks were a little on the weak side. For some, that's all well and good, but it's a little disappointing when you feel like you've spent $20 on a pitcher of juice. With that being said, it's really a nice little restaurant that's convenient for folks who live outside of the village. Definitely family friendly, and a solid place to go get a good meal.

The restaurant is stunning; fantastic art on the murals that line the walls and the chair backs that are all hand painted. Wonderful service: friendly, witty, and attentive. We went on a Monday 2 for 1` margaritas and they did not disappoint. The food is good (the quantities are huge and leftovers should provide a few more meals) but needs some spicing up--for example the nachos didn't have jalapenos--but I'm thinking they view most customers as not ready for the hot stuff. Definitely would go again. Truly lovely people.

We love Sabroso! The food is the best authentic Mexican around by far. We order out all the time. We'd eat in if not for my one complaint: the margaritas aren't good! They have much too much simple syrup and don't taste like real lime. If they changed their margarita recipe to be less sweet and use real lime, you'd see me here every Friday! But still—I highly recommend Sabroso!

I cannot recall arriving. However, once I arrived I felt encompassed by the mural which covered the walls of the interior entirely. I felt the need to scrutinize the composition which gave at first the impression of being mass produced wall paper. After some debate about whether a living deed had been accorded to the walls, my compatriot and I affirmed that the strokes had a living provenance. This was assuring for several reasons. My mood had been cleft earlier in the day for a variety of reasons though as well for the general stagnation I’d been experiencing for quite some time; a state to which I had been becoming morbidly accustomed. Generally, I feel pleased in the atmosphere of restaurants. I like especially feeling restrained by the promissory of ordering off a menu in witness of personnel for whom my fulfillment of the contractual bond is a matter of livelihood. In advance of the arrival of victuals, I fondle everything on the table. I’m incited by the apparent cleanliness that rests as far as the eye can see. I am shortsighted, or long sighted. This is a temporary confession. The drinks were good. Top shelf and brought directly to the table. No intermediary.

Bright and clean interior. Good fresh guacamole. We had chicken nachos (tasty but a little soggy), steak and shrimp fajitas - good, but not sure about the mushrooms, and an enchilada platter - tasty. Beans are traditional and slightly soupy, rice is seasoned with peas, and we would like to have a combo option for more variety. Service was quick and pleasant. We will be back to try more of the menu.

Nice, Mexican atmosphere with lots of colors. That's the most positive thing I can say, however. My food was okay (7/10, chicken quesodilla meal). My GF's meal was steak fajitas and her food was only a 4/10, with orange colored oil on all the vegetables and containing tough steak pieces. She had also tried the queso dip with nacho chips and it didn't taste like queso so she sent it back. Nacho chips were warm and freshly cooked, and were unsalted.

Ok so this place is very kid friendly which is always a plus. The service there was excellent. Everyone was very friendly & welcoming. The artwork is beautiful so very atmospheric. The downside was the food sadly which definitely does needs some work. The chicken especially tasted very tough & dried out. The refried beans had a weird flavor. The rice however was excellent so that needs no change. So I hope they take heed & make some necessary changes because I would hate to see this place go & not do well.

Went here for lunch today. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the service is good. the food was bland for me, but that is most likely because I am a vegan and the restaurant clearly caters to omnivores. i enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa most of all. My entree (vegetable tacos) had soggy vegetables that were not at all seasoned. I liked the refried beans and rice, but it was not out-of-this-world good. I get that this is not a place intended for vegans or vegetarians but it would have been nice if the vegetables were cooked better and actually seasoned. I would totally come back for the overall atmosphere and to see if any other entrees could be made vegan.

Newly opened and totally refreshed and redesigned inside and out. Dined on the comfortable front porch. Pretty standard old school Mexican menu. My dish was good though would have liked a more interesting mix of vegetables. Generously sized portions and mole sauce for a pleasant change of pace among the offerings. Would like to see more selection and interesting twist in the vegetarian choices which are too few. Already popular and a much needed eatery in northern Red Hook.

We tried Sabroso on a recommendation from a friend and, while not disappointed in any way, we weren't thrilled either. The service, atmosphere, and cleanliness were truly outstanding, but the food was nothing special. We usually enjoy Mexican fare in nearby rhinebeck, and that is where we'll likely return in the future.

It was alright. I got the whole fried fish and it was actually pretty difficult to eat, good but took some effort. Margaritas were on point but service was slow. I had 2 kids under 2 years old with me and when they see that and I still have to flag someone down to order and then again to get my check it's a big offense. It's risky going out with kids and I stick to places with quick service and ticket times. It was early and not busy one bit I should add. If you're going to grab some margaritas at the bar I recommend, if you're going out for dinner with your kids I don't unfortunately. Mexican restaurants have a lot of competition these days and I will stick to my current favorites (margaritas, casa Vallarta and mole mole)

We’ve been here 3 times since it opened, and likely won’t we’ll be going back. The people are very nice and the new lighting is better (I no longer feel like I’m in a vampire in 1990s bright diner who can’t look up due to the super bright lighting). But the food is bland, odd to say for a Mexican restaurant. Last time there I ordered chili renenos, a real test of a chef. Well, the coating was thin and falling off and the renenos themselves were overcooked, soggy, and had little flavor. (They might have been made in advance and re-heated, though I can’t say this for sure.) And the guacamole is increasingly odd, too much white in it, like a white sauce or mayo is being added (It’s not chesse chunks I’m talking about). I asked for one of their special margaritas on ice and it had so much ice in such a huge glass that I could barely taste the drink. So nothing is bad or terrible, the service is very good, but some items just aren’t as they should be and there are better Mexican restaurants around for the money.

My family and I had lunch here today. The food was pretty good but, one of us ordered a lunch item and were charged for a dinner item. Two of us requested hot sauce and were charged $2.00 each for it. Really, I have never had to pay extra to put some hot sauce on my food.

5 minutes from my house and I was really hoping for a consistently good restaurant to stay in this jinxed location. Food is so hit or miss it’s not worth it. Tried it 3 times. Once was take out and again, 5 minutes away so you’d think it would be hot and delicious. So bland and dry. Not even their house hot sauce was flavorful. The place is nice, but every restaurant that’s been there has been nice. The service is lovely as well, but what’s the point when the food sucks?!

Very, very expensive for no reason at all. A cheese quesadilla is $16, prepared different than I’ve ever seen with just 3 small flour tortillas folded taco style with cheese. Nothing special. Ordered a burrito and chicken was super dry. Food came out very fast. Margaritas are extremely weak. Server told us a pitcher only has 3 shots. Won’t be back.

I have gone now three times with several friends. The first two times we had food and appetizer..no drinks because there was no liquor license. Our food was bland and we sent back several apps. Both times our meals were just ok nothing special for the price. Went a third time for just to sit at the bar and have a few drinks. We had a margarita which was gross..tasted like sprite and we also tried a mojito which has brown mint in it. Prices on beverages are extremely high and not worth it. Was super excited for this place to open but after three times don’t think I’ll ever go back.
