An all around amazing experience! Great food, prompt courteous service and an awesome atmosphere. Out of the many restaurants in Rhinebeck this one is VERY high on the list.
Gabys is my go to when I'm in the rhinebeck area, and this most recent dining experience didn't disappoint. The presentation and taste widely of the food was exceptional, the service was personable and prompt, and the atmosphere first rate. Always a good bet for Mexican fare.
Authentic food and great atmosphere. The waitress was very forthcoming. Would recommend!
After six months of living at Rhinebeck, I've decided that this is the best restaurant in the village. The food is excellent and well priced, and the service is excellent. They make a great Margherita.
it was a touch expensive but delicious and worth it. I had the vegetable chimichangas and they were fantastic. No one at the table had a single complaint about the food. And the Margaritas on the Rocks were amazingly delicious.
A favorite! Always a pleasure there. NEVER disappointed. 😁
Gaby's is easily my favorite place in Rhinebeck. The staff are consistent and very friendly. The food is fresh, we'll prepared, and comes out quickly even when the place is packed. Best of all, prices are great for a spot in the center of a pricey town.
Very enjoyable. Looking forward to returning. Food was delicious, plentiful and priced appropriate. Staff friendly, restaurant clean and inviting.
Service outstanding. Food was well prepared and nicely seasoned. Worth every penny.
Excellent, I've never had bad food or service here
Amazing every time we eat in or order out. If you order the Bistec Quesadilla you will not be disappointed. This is our go to place any time we have company.
Very tasty! I come here all the time when I'm visiting my sister. It's hard to find good Mexican food, but I've always been pleased when I come here.
A wonderful friendly place..!! The margarita pitcher is delish.. The guacamole is amazing. They let me change the tv station at the bar.. They are so sweet. Love this place..highly recommend ..
Great authentic cuisine. You must try the drinks, they are a very heavy pour, but oh man they are delicious. IMO the best drink is the Pomegranate Mojito.
Really great Mexican cuisine … loved the music and decor. Very good ….
The food is always great. I love that you get a choice of doneness on the steak in the tacos. They came out just the way I wanted them.
Excellent Mexican fare in the beautiful town of Rheinbeck. House Margarita is much much better than the lemonade you get in other Mexican places. Fresh, tasty...highly recommended
A beautifully decorated awesomely clean restaurant. We were greeted immediately and seated. The staff was quite attentive. Portions are large and attractively presented. Prices were very fair. I would recommend this gem to any one dining in Rhinebeck!
This place exceeded my expectations to be honest. Everything that we ordered was beautiful and delicious. The photos others put here on Google were exactly how the food came. The staff was very nice and the service was exceptional. This is definitely a place we suggest going to for good food.
Went there recently for a late lunch/early dinner. It was fantastic, and a lovely restaurant as well. Had the guacamole made table side, which was just the ticket. Little hit of spice and tasted absolutely fresh, went well with the complementary chips. I had the pork tamales which tasted great with a huge helping of rice and beans. We also tried the chicken tacos which had a very nice char-grilled taste. Portion was large with 3 tacos. We sat inside, but they also have some outdoor tables (a bit cold for our visit). I would recommend Gaby's highly and can't wait to go back.
Gaby's is the best Mexican Restaurant in Rhinebeck and Red Hook. They do solid fresh food. Their fish is always fresh and well cooked. Their salsas are also flavorful. Their menu is dominated by 'higher-end-quality' tex mex dishes, So, if you are not daring, but want a good meal, this menu will deliver. The stand outs are the steak tacos, and guacamole. - which are beautiful cuts of steak cooked to order then diced up for the taco. The mole Poblano sauce is great also, but I would love to see it on dark meat chicken. The chefs here truly know how to cook everything from Pueblo Mexico (tied with Oaxaca as top food-region in Mexico). My only complaint is that I wish they would flex their authentic-Puebla-food muscles a bit more. I have tried some dishes off-menu and they were amazing. I think Rhinebeck is ready for sabor Poblano! I want to see Chanclas, Molotes, Pipian, and Chiles en Nogada! Also, if it were available we would buy Rompope and Pasita at every visit! Come on Gaby's, show the world what you got!
Really great food; totally fresh and home made. You can tell that they pay attention to detail when making the food. The atmosphere was bright, open and colorful and the service was excellent. We went for a late lunch on a Sunday and the food was as if it were just made. House habanero salsa picante was a creative twist on usual house made hot sauce. Even the salsa and chips were great. Abby was our server and she seemed genuinely pleased that we enjoyed our meal so much. This was an all around great experience. Highly recommend. Gaby's is not on the main drag and you have to look for it. That made it even nicer.
Nice and cozy place with fast service in spite of it being a busy Friday evening. Food tasted pretty good and had large portion sizes so order accordingly if you tend to eat on the lighter side Overall a great experience
Absolutely the best freshest food and expertly made. Definitely 💯 a must return.
Talk about an amazing atmosphere! The staff is always so happy and friendly! I know it’s a Mexican restaurant, and I should talk about the margaritas (which are amazing), but the white sangria is the best sangria around! Food is delicious, as well, and portion sizes are perfect.
Gaby’s throws the BEST BIRTHDAY PARTIES 🥳...Besides their FRESH Quality food...the Tables were set with pitches of Margaritas 🎉🦋💕🌈 Truly a festive 🎉💕😘⭐️🥳 and fabulous occasion. Guests from out of town came back again just for their amazing Guacamole. The owners Elisa and Luis and staff are The friendliest, warm, sincere people. I think this is the BEST Mexican restaurant I have been to throughout my world travels !! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I came here on a busier night and it was a little crowded but had a nice structure as I liked the Mexican vibe from the place. I expected the service to be a little more rushed and annoying for a busier night, but It turned out to be very good. The food was AMAZING! Most likely one of the best chimichanga's I ever had!! The photo is the leftover chimichanga's that I brought home. The chips and salsa we're also superb, I will come back again!
Gaby's is our "go-to" place when we want a delicious Mexican (but up-scale) meal. If the weather is good you can eat outside. Be sure to get a pitcher of margaritas and order the guacamole. The main courses are outstanding, service is friendly and fast (except on weekends when they are packed). The menu has something for everyone.
Amazing cuisine, and amazing service! Guacamole was exceptional and meals were well priced for large portions. Smoothies were delicious. Bathrooms could have better lighting, though.
Restaurant very nicely decorated, clean, and service was excellent. Food was also very good.
Is been 8 years that I go to Gabby.s to have family dinner. The food is always fresh and delicious. This summer they changed the menu adding same authentic Mexican dishes. The waitress was really diligent. Overall is really great!!
THE BEST FOOD!! ABSOLUTELY MY FAVORITE PEOPLE! MARGARITA IS THE BEST EVER! SERVICE IS 5 STAR! YOU GET YOUR DRINKS IMMEDIATELY. FOOD IS SERVED QUICK! 5 STARS!!!!!
Omg this was the warmest welcoming atmosphere I could ever find in a restaurant. We were directly given a table and could order drinks (some housemade lemonades that were amazinggg), then got our food, which was absolutely delicious. There was a little girl (the daughter of the waitress) that was always smiling and brightened the atmosphere even more. While paying the bill, we were talking to this waitress and told her we had a long drive ahead of us, so she told us about some take away mexican sandwiches with carne asada we could take for our roadtrip, THEY WERE MINDBLOWING. We had enough to eat while there, but we couldnt resist to try them in the car soon after - let me tell you, they were just too good, and gone very quickly. I usually write long reviews only if the place is either really really bad, or absolutely amazing, and this was absolutely amazing. Will come back, if you read this thankkkk youuu!
I really liked the decor of this place, and I was happy to have Mexican food again because that's mostly what I eat here at home in Houston. The food was delicious and they give you plenty, and although it's a little bit pricey, it makes sense for the area it's in. I was especially happy that I could get Jarritos in my favorite flavor, which isn't always offered even back home. The burritos are huge and you'll probably only finish half of it in one go. The chips and salsa they bring you were fantastic and we didn't have to wait long for our food at all.
Gaby’s has become our favorite Mexican food restaurant between Poughkeepsie and Kingston, New York. They have an extensive menu, reasonable prices, and a service oriented staff. If you choose to patronize this establishment, be sure to order the guacamole.
I usually don't eat Mexican food but I was being treated by a friend and went ahead and ate at the restaurant outside. Service was great and helpful. I am a vegetarian and can't have cow dairy. The staff were most helpful in making a positive selection for me and it was delicious and price wise great. Portions were big too. They make their own chips, tortillas and other items. Authentic. Absolutely. I was there for lunch so getting a table was not an issue but for dinner I would recommend calling for a reservation. I have also ordered take out and that is great too. Check it out and discover for yourselves.
Went there today for a late lunch/early dinner. Food was really tasty and reasonably priced, portions were generous. Spicy guacamole was awesome! Service was very good also.
Wow! I love Gaby's <3. Slightly off the main street of town, it can be easy to miss, especially if you're not familiar with the area. But it's definitely worth checking out. The vibe is fun and casual, the staff is great, and the drinks are delightful. During COVID they have lots of outdoor dining tables set up, with a big tent providing shade and rain protection. Seating is ample and I've never had to wait for a table. Also they are open late, which is not a given in this town. My favorites here include the spicy margarita and the flan. Seriously, this flan will make a believer out of you... don't miss out.
In my opinion this is some of the best Mexican food around. I would not go so far as to say the best I've ever had but one thing I will give them credit for is the steak in my steak burrito actually tasted like steak. Very tasty burritos and plantains are excellent as well. Definitely recommended if you're in the area.
Stopped in to pick up food for my kid who was about to get on the train. Hostess was really helpful and she packed us up an order of freshly made guacamole and chips with a strawberry banana smoothie. I also had dinner there. Absolutely delicious. Go, you won't regret it. Delicious.
best mexican restaurant around, nothing compares. i love the steak quesadillas and steak burritos
Our restaurant of choice was closed so we discovered this place - what a gem! Everything well themed together to give an authentic Mexican vibe - music, decor and staffing . We had a chimichanga that was so flavorful and light along with black beans and rice. Definitely a winner!
Came for father's day and I made a great choice. The restaurant is lovely, bright and clean. The food was amazing! I had the enchiladas mixtecas and it was so flavorful. The shredded pork inside had such a wonderful, smoky flavor. My wife's quesadilla camarone was wonderfully seasoned and the shrimp split in half so you really good a full grilled shrimp in every bite. Finished with the fantastic tres leches cake that tasted so fresh. Definitely coming back.
We haven't eaten here in awhile, the food was very good and the service matched that level.
Great service, but theres better Mexican food in neighboring towns
Good food and service. I recommend the paella, but you should order it on advance by phone. They make it fresh and it takes about 45 minutes.
Great margaritas on a hot day. Strong enough to come back for. The food I good. We like the nachos, but stay away from the tamales... they leave much to be desired.... Fried ice cream is killer though!
Freshly cooked Mexican dishes attractively presented by friendly staff. Good beer selection. Mariachis are a hoot. Very brightly colored "happy" decor. Good space between tables. Reasonable prices.
First off the online menu is not the same what so ever of the menu in store. Was not what we were expecting however it ended up being so freaking good. I got the lamb chops and they were the best lamb iv ever eaten. I'd give it 5 stars but there website is totally wrong but food and service was great
Food was amazing. Service was odd, the place was not too busy but yet I felt rushed . I highly recommend the Fajitas de la Gaby.
Nice place... food was good, portions were normal, service was a little slow, drinks weren't refilled in reasonable time.
I came here once before about 10 yrs ago and could not remember the experience . I made a reservation for my wife and I for Valentine’s. We arrived a little early and were seated right away even though they had a full house. Food was very delicious, hot and fresh!!! The staff was supper nice and showed the perfect level of attentiveness . The only disappointment for me is the place is very small and the tables are way too close together to feel like you’re not apart of someone else’s dinner party.
I would definitely recommend eating here at Gaby's Cafe: Mexican Bar & Grill! The food is good and not too expensive - especially for the quality of the food you get. Rhinebeck isn't very much of a super busy town and being that the restaurant is tucked away has its pros and cons. The pro is that it doesn't seem to be very busy during lunch hours. The con (or pro, depending on who you are) id that it also makes the place feel very empty. Overall, I would come back here and enjoy another delicious burrito con carne asada!
My husband & I were in the area for a Sunday out. This is a cute local place. Very clean & nicely decorated. Our server was very nice & recommended the Birria tacos, which I did order, & they were very tasty. We had ordered chips & salsa & before we were done w them & about 10mins before our food came the busser removed it from our table?! My husband & I were like ??!! What on earth! No offers for drink refills/no check up afterwards to make sure everything was ok etc. Food was very good & we would visit again, but the service needs a little steer in the right direction.
The staff here was great, they immediately engaged my toddler and asked her where she wanted to sit which was very nice. We sat in a booth in the back and had plenty of room for our party of 5. The Guacamole was fresh and excellent tasting. I ordered chimichanga which was not as crispy as I was hoping it would be but otherwise the food was great.
Nice outdoor dining. Food is somewhat bland for Mexican, but I am sure that’s because they prepare it for the locals. Friendly service
The staff was friendly. Restaurant verry clean and organized. The food needed alitle more flavor. But over all ok I would go back and try something different.
~Amazing~ guacamole and tasty salsa but the margaritas were pretty much tequila with a hint of lime (and I've never complained about a drink being too strong but these just weren't tasty because they burned).
We were here for lunch and enjoyed the restaurant decor and the kind staff. But the pork tacos and chorizo quesadilla we ordered tasted surprisingly bland. I would've appreciated more seasoning, particularly in the heat department, for both dishes.
This is not to discourage anyone from eating here as I am a Village resident and do frequent Gaby's occasionally. The main review above is correct in stating that the Pineapple Tequila is amazing and that Mr. Garcia is a most friendly host. But to say the prices are LOW is another thing all together. I'd hardly call $13-$17 dollars for a burrito a low price....$7-$8 would be more like it.
The service here was truly terrible. My waitress kept switching between her and another girl and they were openly texting while standing there. I tried to get her attention a few times but she was too busy on her cell. My muscles were good in their broth but I got a nice bite of sand in every other muscle...not a pleasant experience.
Server was great. Food was tasty. Portions were small.
The service was horrible. It took very long to get our food and the waitress never came back for us to tell her she messed up the order. The food was good even though it was not what we ordered
Enchiladas didn't have enough sauce and were a bit dry. We waited over a half hour for service. The wait staff were very pleasant when available.
Not a great experience but not a horrible one either. The food is pretty solid. We sat down at 7:00. By 8:20 our food was still not out. No one even asked to refill our drinks. This was very disappointing service. It’s unlikely I would return I think, more than once during the meal I caught myself thinking “I should have just gone to Taco Bell” but also, I love Taco Bell so maybe I am biased.
Venue was bright and charming. Service was average. Chips and salsas were homemade and very good. The pork was tender and juicy and delicious. The rice and beans were flavorless. Usually my favorite part of a Mexican meal. Finding a dish without cheese was difficult here.. testing flavors on their own was disappointing.
I don't recommend going here. Atmosphere isn't terrible, a little loud. Server was fine and food showed up reasonably fast. However, the food just isn't very good. It's not an exaggeration to say that Taco Bell is better. For a sit down restaurant, you expect better than that. I'd say go elsewhere.
Enchiladas had the flavor of a new pair of white socks. The sauces? Imagine if Old Navy started bottling salsa. Beans and rice? You’d forget what’s in your mouth if there wasn’t a plate if it in front of you. Not that you’d be able to smell it. The tastiest item was Diet Coke my wife ordered. I understand why they wait until you order before bringing the chips and salsa. Avoid this place.
Rhinebeck location is a bit of a disappointment. Corn chips appear to be packaged & the salsa tasted jarred. We prefer the Ellenville location unless they changed these items as well.
I've been here a few times now and have had the same experience each time. The food is decent, depends on what you get, but the service is poor. The waitresses take too long to come back, the food takes too long to come out, and for Mexican food, costs too much. Specifically, avoid the bigger waitress. She is inattentive and got our orders wrong, and checks wrong. They use a POS system based on phones and tablets, but should probably just write orders down. I know it's Rhinebeck but this kind of food is cheap and easy to make. Overall a disappointing restaurant.
Aside from always getting my order messed up. This place needs a lesson on seasoning their food. Steak tacos, bland as ever. No salt pepper or even like juice on it. Just grilled steak in a tortilla. Guacamole bland as ever no salt or lime juice. And every time I call I always ask for sour creams on the side and it never comes the way I ask. Can get better food and a lot cheaper from Taco Bell.
Went for my first time during happy hour on Tuesday. Place was completely empty. After reviewing the menu, I ordered a Carne Asada burrito. For nearly an hour we sat alone, and the staff diligently refilled water glasses. After a near hour of waiting, our meals finally showed up. After noting that it didn't taste quite right, I picked through the contents of the burrito to find chicken, not the steak I ordered. Food was mediocre. Also, once the food came, the water glass refills ceased completely. I will not be back.
I went here because I heard the food was great. Ordered a burrito and something tasted rotten inside. The vegetables were terrible. I picked out the chicken and only ate the chicken. Drinks. We're ok. Overpriced and food not good. I won't be back
I have been to this place in past and food was good. But today I was surprised how bad their food has gotten. Salsa tasted like they have put cilantro and onions in ketchup. Shrimp we ordered for appetizer tasted fishy and it was $17 for 5 regular shrimp. Way too over priced and not good quality. I will not be going here again.
It was not a busy Sunday evening. Service was very slow. Had to ask 3 for my chips with salsa. Ultimately, a different waitress bought it to our table. The drinks were actually very good. The wait time for our food was almost was almost an hour. When we finally get our plates, my order is wrong. I ordered a simple burrito, and the Waiter bought out a quesadilla. When I let him know that the order was wrong he didn’t even ask me if I wanted my original order. He said “it’s just like a burrito.” Really? I decided I was not going to wait and just had the quesadilla. The rice and beans were very bland that my wife had. He actually had the nerve to come back and asked me if everything was OK. I Just asked for the check. I will never go back.
We’ve been to this restaurant multiple times and have had decent experiences. But tonight I Noticeably Chipped my front tooth on something in the vegetarian fajitas.. brought this up to clearly the manager, as they had a different outfit on. I even went as far as to put the hard, non water soluble material in her hand, which was hard in her hand and didn’t smush, or disappear. She said if they took money off the money will come out of her pay. To fix this chip in my tooth it’ll cost hundreds if not a thousand dollars. The least they could do is comp our bill or at least our drinks. Nothing was offered, just to replace the meal that lead to the chip in my tooth. Situations like this only occur with slave labor. I’m absolutely appalled that a restaurant in a town like Rhinebeck would operate like this.
This was the most awful dining experience I have EVER had. The waitress texted through our entire ordering process that then of course was wrong. She gave us one check and refused to give us separate checks. She never ensured the order was correct, and we went without water for 10+ minutes.
I had ordered the mariscillo anajilo with linguini cause I thought it looked appetizing. Let me tell you, for $28 it was not. It was a seafood dish, what I was served was cold pasta and seafood with a pinch full of linguini it wasn’t even linguini it was spaghetti ... the best part was when I took a bite of it there was no flavor whatsoever. Felt like I took a bite of air.
Unwelcoming and rude, FORCED a gratuity on a 4 person table. I went there with my wife and 2 friends. When I asked about the gratuity on my bill the waitress laughed and walked away. Leaving to ask a second waitress with her stating "that is normal". It is completely wrong to force a gratuity without prior statement of such. This has happen to other customers who have received terrible service, they know when they are treating their customers poorly and they add the gratuity because they know if they didn’t they wouldn’t get tipped for being so awful. Our table was not serviced and we were left waiting for more than an hour just to get our check. I had to ask a different waitress just to get our bill paid. The server was very argumentative when we asked about replacing the black beans with refrained beans. We asked for the ingredients in the chicken soup and the waitress rudely stated that it was chicken soup. And then the waitress stated that there was tortillas in the chicken soup so it was not just chicken soup I have food allergies and need to know the ingredients in all of the food. They were refilling used bottles with other liquor so we weren’t able to know if we were getting the bottle we requested or not. We will not be back and we will never support their business ever again.
So my wife and I tried this Mexican restaurant several years ago and found the food to be mostly bland and tasteless. In my words, we wrote this one off. However, my wife decided to give it another try. After all, they are still in business, right? My wife and her sister sat at the bar area (not getting drinks) to wait for their takeout order. 30+ minutes later (the restaurant wasn't busy) she tracked down her server (for lack of a better term) and discovered her order had been sitting around getting old (not a typo). Hungry and tired, paid cash and left for the 15 minute drive home. We got: calamari appetizer Chicken burrito Enchilada de espinaca Steak taco $71.36 I couldn't believe how awful it was. My wife, who usually goes with the flow called the restaurant only to have the manager, Delpino (sp) blame the wait and drive home for the poor quality. To his credit, he offered to replace the food, but given that not one item out of four was really edible, we opted to pass. By that point we had already tossed the food in the trash. Delpino offered to refund us if we routed through the garbage to return to uneaten portion. Not my idea of fun. Ultimately he refunded us 20%. The advice I would give is to pass on this one. It would have been different if just one item wasn't good or if the manager didn't blame us for the food's taste because it was take out or telling us everyone else likes their food. There are lots of restaurants to choose from and it makes no sense to put up with being treated poorly.
It is no surprise to me that while this is the only Mexican restaurant in the area it is never busy not even on weekends because it is way over priced for what it offers in return. Anything made with chicken has been very dry to me. Plus I ordered take out and they left out part of the order. Very disappointing on all counts.
My husband and I came with our one year old. It took almost an hour to get our food. The waitress clearly forgot to put in our order, she came over 35 minutes later asking what we ordered again then it was another 15 minutes before we got our food. Another couple came in after us, got their food and even paid their bill meanwhile we were still waiting for our food. She didn’t apologize, never checked on us after dropping off our food. We are not easily annoyed but her attitude and lack of empathy is what frustrated us.
My husband and I are frequent customers. Food, amazing, as always. Except the waitress we had was absolutely awful. Black curly hair with glasses and an accent. Worst service I've ever had in my life. Needs to not be in a service job and fired.
Way to treat potential customer! I waited to see if I could see menu - decided to use restroom - waitress rudely scolded me and said for customers only - I will never return here !
Some friends of ours who are from the area wanted to go get margaritas after they wrapped up at a local harvest festival. they said that they usually go to this place for margaritas and though neither my sister nor I drink, we were excited to have some good guacamole. When we arrived we stood around for a little bit before anyone seated us but it was kind of busy. When the waitress came our friends explained that they would be ordering drinks to drink here and then they would be ordering their food to go. I explained that though we were not ordering food or margaritas, I understood that we were taking a table and would be tipping accordingly. They ordered a pitcher of margaritas and we ordered two bottled sodas and some very expensive guacamole. My friend, who has a fair number of food allergies, was trying to ask the waitress about various items on the menu but the waitress wasn’t really giving her much in the way of answers (she asked about the chicken soup and the answer was “it’s chicken soup”…) our other friend asked about refried beans and was given a very snarky response as though it was insane to suggest they might have a refried beans at this establishment. I understand that they didn’t have these beans but the answer this woman gave my friend was incredibly rude. The guacamole was OK, the chips were not good. It took her friends a while to drink their margarita picture but I assumed that our waitress would be antsy to hustle us out of there. Instead she disappeared, essentially never to be seen again. Someone finally had to get up to find an employee to ask for the check. When the check was brought to our table, there was a gratuity included in the total. Nothing on the receipt or menu suggests that this is a standard thing that they do and when I asked the waitress about it she kind of stared at me blankly and shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Then took us another almost 30 minutes to get somebody to take the check and credit card from the table. I was fully prepared to tip quite generously because I understand that we didn’t actually order food to eat there and only half the table was drinking but the service we received was beyond poor, it was honestly bad and pretty disrespectful and certainly not deserving of the tip that they gave themselves. I will not be returning to this establishment and I’m told that when my friends wrote a negative review on google, the restaurant paid to have that review removed
