Ali is the most amazing person ever! He is so kind and attentive alongside the servers. The food was absolutely delicious, flavorful, and a perfect kick of spice. Every bite was a sigh of happiness and a look forward into the next. I highly recommend Tulsi to every and anybody! Thank you so much for your amazing service, perfectly made food, and beautiful environment.

Ali and the crew are amazing. I’ve always loved this place and after the new upgrades it’s even more refined. The food is authentic and approachable for everyone. Cannot recommend Tulsi enough!

A fantastic restaurant with some of the best Indian food we've ever had. As vegans, my husband and I love all their vegan options. Ali also prepares excellent cocktails. We come here every time we visit Richmond. We highly recommend it.

This restaurant excels in every area, from food and drinks, to, service, to atmosphere. We are quite partial to Indian food, as we are vegan, and Tulsi's menu features plenty of appealing vegan, and vegetarian, options. I have tried multiple cocktails, and those made by Ali are my favorite. I also commend Kavita for her courteous service. Though we live two hours away, we will eat at Tusli every time we can. We have dined at Tulsi on several occasions and we have thoroughly enjoyed our visits. Tulsi serves some of the best Indian fare you will find in Virginia.

I’ve been coming here for 5 years! And yes, mostly takeout- but now I share this place with my husband and we now live in NC. We traveled to VA for tulsi. I had the med-hot butter chicken and my husband had the chicken korma medium level. They had crushed cashews on top of his which were a huge surprise it was very good! I love butter chicken can never pull me away 🤍 we also had garlic naan- so fresh, and rice pudding which was served cold, first for me, but still so good! And of course Ali and his star service all these years- he remembered me as soon as I walked in. Shukran! Thank you! Until next time!

In my 3 trips to this restaurant I’ve had had the pleasure to try their chicken, lamb, goat, and shrimp they all are always cooked to perfection they melt in your mouth, infused with a smoky, earthy flavor no matter what sauce you put it in. But it's not just the food that makes Tulsi exceptional; it's the impeccable (Quick) service and attention to detail. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate, always ready to guide you through the menu and offer recommendations based on your preferences. And let's not forget the desserts – the fried dough is heavenly, each bite a burst of sweet, syrupy goodness, while the icecream is a refreshing and creamy nutty delight. Overall, Tulsi offers an unparalleled dining experience that tantalizes the senses and leaves you craving more. With its exquisite cuisine, elegant ambiance, and exceptional service, Tulsi easily earns a perfect 10-star rating.

Tulsi is one of my favorites! I love coming here after my yoga class Monday evening at Taou for dinner. Ali and the staff are so kind and attentive! The chai tini was great with my palak paneer and masala. The new recent renovations are beautiful and the ambiance are very nice.

Decided to try Indian cuisine on a whim with a friend in 2023, I have been obsessed ever since and I only eat at this restaurant! The food has such great taste and flavor and is consistently delicious. I love seeing the staff who are always so friendly. The new renovations are beautiful — I love this spot! Life-long fan, I live almost 40min away but it’s WELL worth the drive. Did the mention the new renovations are stunning!

We really enjoyed our first visit eating here this evening. Our server was very polite and accurately took our order. We have eaten at various Indian restaurants over the years and think we like this one the most, The chicken tikka presentation was excellent. My partner really liked his vegetable curry dish. I also ordered a mango lassi and loved it! Wonderful!

Jan 2026 update. The restaurant is revamped. The new decor looks stunning. Quality of food and service are still excellent. Tulsi never disappoints! As an Indian I seldom find any Indian restaurant good enough to meet my standards. Tulsi is a rare exception. The food’s quality and taste are unmatched. They can even make a rich Indian curry light and mild according to my taste. Our waiter Ali makes us feel welcome every time we go in there. My only feedback to the owner would be to play music which are more universal or elegant (for example flute or sitar), instead of the mediocre Bollywood songs they play all the time which aren’t liked or understood by most.

The good was great. The customer service was stellar too. The food came out quick and it was fresh and hot. I got the butter chicken, medium spice, with rice and it was a home run. Perfectly seasoned, fresh cuts of chicken and white fluffy rice. I also loved the fresh cuts of crispy garlic on the naan. I was craving Indian food and this hit the spot. Will come back again.

Great experience for Indian cuisine. Very helpful and insightful menu, great service, and great ambiance. Honestly my 1st time having official Indian Curry, and I was impressed. Great place for a Date as its a beautiful place, but also a great place to get a quality meal. The service was very attentive and professional as well. Recommended for Indian Cuisine, especially Curry.

My husband and I have been coming here for years, since 2019, because we know we will always have a lovely experience. The food is consistently flavorful and delicious. Ravi is always kind and attentive—he’s been our server since we first started coming, and we know we’ll always receive outstanding service. The new renovations are absolutely beautiful; they add a touch of glamour and elegance to an already warm and welcoming atmosphere. Tulsi NEVER disappoints!

Tulsi is the best Indian food I have had in Richmond. The staff was extremely attentive too! You can't beat their location either - there's just enough Carytown bustle to give you some people watching but the restaurant itself goes very far back for those who want a more secluded dining experience. I have never had a "stressful" or rushed meal there, even in peak hours!

Wowza… just wowza.. let me firstly state… Tulsi is incredible, the food has always been amazing everytime I come here and the atmosphere.. MWAH (this is a chefs kiss btw)! But that’s not what this review is about; this one goes out to our beautiful king of a server Ali. Ali from the first time I saw you I knew there was a sparkle in your eye. From that sparkle Ali and I connected on a philosophical level and from that moment I KNEW the food would be amazing. From that same sparkle it was as if Ali and I both were transported to ancient greece and received the knowledge from the founding math fathers. This food really helped me get over my dogs recent passing as well as the frightening Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 movie (freddy is scary). -PS for any wondering YES the bidet water does taste fantastic. Fabulous food! Creative and delicious. I had tandoor Chicken. Service is outstanding and just the right level of attentiveness. Low light, up-scale, appropriate atmosphere.

They were very attentive, kind and helpful. Food is amazing!! Just as good as their service. I ordered shrimp pakoras, butter chicken, and garlic naan. All the food was a 10/10. I will be coming back! Our waiter was Ali and he was absolutely wonderful.

The food was great and the service was amazing. Ali was our server and he helped us pick some great dishes. Upon learning that it was a birthday celebration with my parents, he did not charge us for desserts! That was an amazing gesture! Will certainly be back for more treats!

I had such a great experience at Tulsi! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. The staff were so friendly and made sure I was taken care of the whole time. I started with an appetizer that was fresh and flavorful, and then had one of their curries with naan… the spices were rich without being too heavy. The portions were generous, so I even had leftovers to take home. Everything tasted authentic and carefully prepared. I’d definitely come back again.

As soon as you walk through the door, you smell goodness. Staff is very helpful and friendly, in explaining vegan options clearly. We had the veggie samosa and veggie pakoras as appetizers...both were delicious. For our entries, we had chana palak and tadka dal. Tadka dal was okay, it is on the bland side with medium heat level. The Chana palak was pretty good, taste better than the Tadka dal as far as flavor, just wish it had more flavor. Maybe bolden up the spinach puree a bit more or bolden up the chickpeas a bit more, to give it a bit of a bolder taste because it was kind of bland and it was a medium heat level. The rice was delicious, one of the best I've had. Very nice restaurant. Will be coming back to try other items on the menu.

One if the best, if not the best, Indian food restaurant in the city of Richmond! Staff is very friendly, the atmosphere and the smells gives you a great appetite to devour some of the best dishes they have. My personal favorite is the Chicken Tika Masala but all the other dishes are just as delicious. Totally worth a try and Im positive you will come back!

I usually do not write reviews. However, Tulsi was outstanding. From the second you walk into the door, you are greeted politely. The restaurant ambiance is relaxing, quiet, and inviting. It is extremely clean and elegant. The service was impeccable. Before my water glass was less than half full, the server was there to refill it. The owner of the restaurant stopped at every table to greet the customers and ask how the food was. Wow, was it amazing. The best Indian food I have had in the entire United States. Extremely authentic with incredible dimension and flavor. Price was very reasonable given the service and quality. Would recommend this establishment 100 times out of 10.

Good varied menu of scrumptious Indian cuisine. Well prepared and elegant. Excellent smoked Old Fashioneds too. Beautiful atmosphere and sharp bright bar. Fast friendly service. It's a great experience.

You can really taste the care and quality in every dish. Was having a really rough day and happened to be on Cary street. Saw this cool looking restaurant with all red interior and thought why not give it a try, I’m so glad I stopped in for dinner!! Hands down the best Indian food I’ve had to date. I got the chicken tikka, extremely flavorful. All the food I had was great but the thing that stood out to me the most was the service! Staff were very nice and helpful. My waiter went as far as to run down the street to hand me my credit card when I forgot it at the restaurant. Truly so thankful for him to do that. Highly HIGHLY recommend this place!

We love Tulsi! I have met the owners multiple times and they are always very friendly and welcoming. We usually have Ali serve us and he is prompt and kind. Most importantly, the food is amazing! A large beer, veggie samosa, and tandoor always hits the spot!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with the catering from Tulsi, Indian restaurant located in Carytown! From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The food was exceptional. Each dish was beautifully prepared, full of authentic Indian flavors, and made with incredible care. Prepared using a traditional tandoori. It was dramatic and amazing to watch the preparation. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about the chicken, vegetables and the bread. If you’re looking for catering that combines amazing food in a dramatic. I can’t recommend them enough. We will definitely be ordering again for future gatherings!

Truly the best Indian Cuisine in the city. In my opinion, it is best suited for a family style meal so you can try multiple different things. The Bhindi (Okra) and Palak Paneer (Paneer in a Creamy Spinach Sauce) are my favorites by far, though.

I ordered the chicken curry with rice, and it was delicious the curry had well-balanced spices with tender pieces of chicken, and the sauce had a nice depth of flavor without being too oily. The rice was fluffy and cooked perfectly. Overall, it was a simple but satisfying meal with great taste and good portion quality.

I had such a wonderful experience at Tulsi tonight! I started off with the samosas as an appetizer, and they were absolutely delicious perfectly crispy on the outside with a flavorful, well-seasoned filling inside. For my entrée, I ordered the butter chicken with garlic naan, and it did not disappoint. The butter chicken was rich, creamy, and full of authentic flavor, and the garlic naan was fresh, warm, and the perfect complement to the sauce. I finished the meal with a sweet ice cream dessert that was the perfect ending to an already amazing dinner. The atmosphere was beautiful and inviting, making the whole experience even better. I was also helped by Mr. Ali, who was fantastic very attentive, professional, and made sure I had everything I needed throughout my visit. Great food, great service, and a great vibe overall. I’ll definitely be back!

This restaurant provided solid food in a cozy atmosphere! Both the chicken korma and the butter chicken had good spice and creaminess, however I felt the depth of flavor was a bit lacking and was not as rich as I am used to from these dishes. I did appreciate the adjustable spice levels and that they were accurately described. The basil naan was something I had never tried before and I actually really liked it and would recommend it. The entrees all include basmati rice which I appreciated. There are is also a full vegetarian section for those who are interested.

First time dining at this Indian spot in Carytown and it didn’t disappoint! Loved the roasted papad and garlic naan to start. We tried the non-veg appetizer with roasted chicken, lamb, and shrimp — so good. The chicken masala was super flavorful with a nice spicy kick. I’m a fan of sweet curries, so the seafood mango combo was a favorite for me. It was a little smoky and noisy inside since they serve sizzling plates, but overall a great experience. Will definitely be back!

My son lives in Richmond and goes here. Our family went and he ordered several dishes he likes along with naan: chicken vidaloo, a curry dish and a lamb dish. It was all delicious and served promptly, but way too much food! We also ordered a bottle of white wine which paired well with the dishes.
