Great place to have mojitos and good quality Cuban food. We sat at high top tables by the bar the service was fantastic!! The atmosphere and the decorations are Great!

Kinda shocked this place only has 4.2 stars, food was VERY good. I tried the chef’s tasting menu and got a little bit of everything and it was all so good - Got one of each of the desserts & very impressed with both, 10/10. Recommend

The food is fantastic! I had the paella as depicted below. Quite authentic experience, and too bad I only had one mojito. Will return the next time I'm in town.

We really enjoyed this dinner. All of us ordered off the “secret menu.” It was way more food than any of us could finish. We ordered the Ropa Vieja, a shredded pork dish (huge serving!), croquettes for an appetizer (chicken was best, both very good), And the flan and rice pudding for dessert. The atmosphere was really nice.

Moving from Miami to the area, I have to say the food here is very authentic and absolutely delicious. The service was great, and the drinks were also very good. We were seated at 1:45 and didn’t leave until around 2:45–3:00. The food did take quite a while to come out, especially for just five of us, and the restaurant was not slammed. Other than the wait, everything was delicious and well worth it.

Oh my goodness, where do I even begin? The decor is absolutely adorable, both inside and out. The service was personable, punctual, and super friendly. The food? Beyond delicious! Everything is perfectly seasoned and marinated—from the pork to the steak. I also loved their Mai-Tai-Garita—so cute and tasty! I’ll definitely be back. Bonus: the server mentioned they have party nights on Fridays and Saturdays! Amazing Cuban food all around! 🌴🍹

Everything we ordered was delicious! The pressed Cuban bread with the mango butter, Ropa Vieja, Pinchos de Camarones and the chicken were all excellent choices. The Pinchos de Camarones and the rice that came with it was extra good. Their R&R Old Fashioned was good too. The service was great and so was the ambience. We definitely recommend Cuba Libre!

We celebrated my dad’s birthday at Cuba Libre in DC today and had such a great experience! The service was excellent, friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Our food came out fast, and everything we ordered was delicious. The drinks were on point, and the dessert was the perfect way to end the meal. What really stood out was how authentic the flavors were; my boyfriend is Cuban, and he even commented that the food tasted just like the home-cooked meals he makes. That says a lot! Would absolutely come back, this place is a gem for anyone craving real Cuban food and a great vibe.

The restaurant is located in a central area of DC, decorated beautifully. The service is great however there’s room for improvement on the food

The service I had was amazing. We made reservations in advance and got seated very quickly. The food is amazing here. The atmosphere and vibes are amazing as well, even though the music was a bit loud. If you are going to DC this is a great spot to go and add to your experience and trip.

✨ Washington D.C. has plenty of solid eats, but Cuba Libre? That’s destination dining with sabor and soul. This spot hits every note that makes Latin cuisine one of the world’s most comforting, layered, and downright thrilling food experiences. I swung back into Cuba Libre after more than five years away, a long hiatus, I know, and what I found was nothing short of remarkable: consistency. Heart. Evolution without erasure. In an industry where turnover and trend-chasing can dilute a restaurant’s essence, Cuba Libre has managed to hold onto its culinary compass. 🌿 Let’s talk Yuca Fries. These aren’t just starchy sides, they’re deep-fried textural poetry. Crispy edges that shatter delicately under the bite, encasing a plush, almost creamy center. The accompanying cilantro sauce? Bracing, herbal, slightly tangy, a fine-tuned pairing that speaks to the chef’s understanding of balance. 🍲 And then there’s the Levanta Muerto, a broth so densely packed with the essence of the sea, it’s practically maritime alchemy. Briny, rich, layered with depth, this is the kind of dish that stops a conversation cold. I tasted shrimp, calamari, and something more elusive, maybe tradition? Whatever it is, it lingers in the best way. What I admire most is that Cuba Libre hasn’t drifted from its roots. The restaurant still pulses with Cuban flair, from its lively energy to its commitment to dishes that feel both transportive and honest. It’s a trek from Rockville or Northern Virginia, sure, but for food this soulful, it’s a journey I’d gladly make again. 📍 Whether you’re a Beltway local or passing through the capital, Cuba Libre deserves a detour. You don’t just eat here, you experience it. Buen provecho.

Super cool bar and restaurant serving a big authentic feeling slice of Cuba. Great empanadas and black bean soup and of course, the drinks. Just the vibe you want when it’s hot and thirsty outside.

I love eating Cuban food and this place did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about all the food and drink options. We went one night and enjoyed dinner and drinks. We were tired from the day so did not stick around for the dancing. The following night we showed up at 9 pm for a late dinner, followed by a night of dancing. Great atmosphere overall.

This was a nice spot. The drinks definitely outshined the one food item we ordered. The Pina colada and the margarita were really good. Definitely a good spot to sit at the bar or go with a small group. The food we did see looked amazing and pretty spot on as far as Cuban cuisine. I definitely will be saving this place and hope you get to stop by, enjoy!

The best way I can describe our experience is inconsistent. We ordered the pork belly as an appetizer, the lechon asado, Vaca frita, and steak and eggs from the brunch menu. The appetizer and bread & mango bread came out moments before our meals. The pork belly was cold with a lot of fat. Still tasty, but cold. The steak, eggs, and potatoes were cold as well and lacked flavoring. The Vaca frita and lechon asado were excellent! The brisket was so good we asked for the sauce to put on the steak and eggs. And the bread oh my goodness the bread is soooo super yummy good. Eileen was fantastic as well and she was working the bar but very attentive to us. We also ordered a nonalcoholic rum punch and mojito, they were both ok. For the money I expected the drinks to be as good as the bread. We'd go back for the brisket, pork and bread. And totally ask to sit in Eileen's section. This time though we would have to comment if the food is cold again.

We came here because we heard about dancing at night but we got here a little too early. It was around 930 pm so we just ordered some food. We had the ropa vieja & the empanadas. The Ropa Vieja was good but it only comes with white rice (I’m used to them always serving it with black beans and rice or with Congri & maduros). The empanadas were fried too hard. I didn’t really like them. The drinks were average. The place is pretty cute and when were leaving, they were starting to pick up the tables & the music was really great. The bathroom, however, had a long line.

Food was pretty good overall. Service was an issue. Very hard to get refills and attention. The food runner couldn’t care less about being there. Overall I’ll chalk it up to maybe an off night.

We went on Saturday for brunch- got there early and basically had the place to ourselves:) The decor is fun and gives off outdoor patio vibes. I ordered the cafe con leche french toast and a bloody mary( nothing special). The french toast had great flavor- it was just sopping wet and soggy. My friend ordered the pan con lechon sandwich and coconut mojito- outstanding!! We both loved it. The sandwich came with crispy plantain chips that were so good. I would definitely go again when in town and try something else! Staff was friendly as well and they brought the check in a cuban cigar box which was a fun touch.

We enjoyed spending our valentines with friends at Cuba Libre. Service was excellent. Our server was friendly, professional and knew the menu very well. Food was kinda hit or miss. Empanada was too hard. The barrio chino wings were over cooked. Everyone who had the valentine special with 16oz rib eye and mahi mahi said it was awesome. The gaucho plate for 2 was pretty good too. The drinks were okay. Hemingway daiquiri could use a bit more rum and maraschino liqueur. The fruit margarita was very watery and could use a little bit more puree. After 10:30 PM, food/drink service basically stops, and the place becomes a dance club. For drinks, you just have to wait in line at the bar.

Alexandra was an amazing bartender unfortunately before she services us we were overlooked by Hanna. It was so sad to see how Hanna not once addressed us and my husband and i were there for over two hours. I let management know and she said she would address Hanna. I’m so happy Alexandria saved my happy vibe!

We arrived here fairly late on a Saturday night, just shortly before the kitchen closed. I was starving and they very obliged us with a great meal. Their ham croquettes were great, and I also got some of their shrimp and plantain chips which had a great deal of flavor. By that point I was too tired to engage in the dancing which started in the main room.

The service was wonderful. The environment was lovely. Of course there is no parking due to the location, and I don't believe the price was right for my entree. The paella is a very small serving and the bottom is pretty crispy, which leaves a very small amount of rice. Pick another dish.

The food was good. Great area. Great drink specials and sufficient portions! Service this time was not that great. It seemed that the guy we had was not able to get his tables' orders correct and kept messing up or just forgetting altogether. He's been there for a while. He probably had some form of dyslexia or a disability so we didn't mind and just wanted food. But things kept getting worse. When they got better, we waited for the correct items to finally come this was around 2pm, July 4th, not packed at all. Eventually we were helped by someone else. We still had a good time and thanked him.

The ambiance is unmatched. My husband really enjoyed the vaca Frida and I thought the pollo asada was as expected. Drinks were fine. Seating and service was very quick our food came out right away. Our server was very ambivalent towards us and didn’t really describe some of the questions I had on the menu but also he’s working 4th of July so 🤷🏼‍♀️

The food was really just okay— the burger was awesome, but the more traditional meat entrees lacked flavor. The Cuban sandwich was okay, but I really expected better. When we walked in, we were stunned by the atmosphere, it was low-lit, cool interior design! But then our waitress walked us to a back room which had no ambiance whatsoever, and was mostly empty of other people. We had a reservation and there were only 4 of us, without any kids, so I would have expected to be seated in the primary area rather than overflow. To her credit, our waitress was lovely and provided great care and service to our table.

I visited Cuba Libre during a private event for a work conference therefor I cannot give a full review. Food: we were limited to small appetizers. (At the request of the host, not the restaurant) I did get to try some empanadas.. unfortunately, they had a frozen taste to them. Drinks: I am somewhat picky with my tequila and I wish more places had a selection for those who don't follow the crowd. I ordered a drink and it was ok. Service: Staff was friendly and did what they could with a large crowd. No complaints. Atmosphere: The location was beautiful. I loved the set up and the old feel to it. Decor was nice, everything seemed clean. I would love to visit and try the actual menu if I make it back to DC.

The server (Nicolás)was great, but we were able to eat there thanks to the intervention of the restaurant manager. The desk/receiving person was very rude and denied us a table when there were plenty of tables available, unless we want to eat at the bar when I we was with our 15 years old boy.. We can’t understand her reasons, but she was very disgusting. This was the first restaurant we visited in our first time visiting DC, and the experience was not good at all, thanks to the person that the restaurant has receiving (supposedly welcoming) customers.

I had the chicken with mashed potatoes and the empanadas. The food was okay, not amazing, but it came out quickly. The ambience was fantastic, lively, and beautifully done. Restrooms were clean and well-kept. Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere more than the meal.

This was my first visit to Cuba Libre, and while I was looking forward to it, the experience had both highs and lows. The vaca frita was flavorful, though it lacked the bell peppers I expected. The pollo asado was decent, the bean soup was just okay, and the croqueta was very tasty. The biggest drawback was the drinks: the Coke had no carbonation, so there was really no way to enjoy a proper soda. To their credit, our waiter — who was very kind and attentive — acknowledged the issue and offered complimentary iced tea, orange juice, or coffee instead, but management gave no attention to the issue, which felt careless for a restaurant of this level. Overall, the service was gracious, and a few dishes were enjoyable, but the consistency and attention to detail weren’t quite there.

Horrible service. Soon as I walked in with my group, no hostess around, we were standing there waiting for 5 mins, servers and waiters passed by us like were invisible. There was barely any other staff in site. What I believe to be the manager is who showed us to our reserved table. We didn’t get our complimentary bread, we had to ask for it. When we ordered a second round, which we paid for, we got an old batch of it that we saw get returned to the kitchen earlier. Our server wasn’t that great as well. She took long times to do anything or come back to our table to check on us. The management here isn’t good. The staff isn’t good except the manager and this guy I think he’s a white guy he was wearing white clothing while other waiters were wearing black. Those two had great service, everyone else we encountered, terrible.

The Ropa Vieja was mostly onions and peppers barely any meat and what was meat wasn’t even shredded at all flavor was there though. The Pork combo barely had flavor just tasted grilled. It was also supposed to be for multiple ppl and gave half a cup of rice for that. The snapper was flavorless as well and sounded like a whole fish or big piece on the menu but presented as very small pieces. Empanadas were good but could have used a 3rd one as an appetizer for $22. And my server was mad I wanted to sit as a large party an hour and a half before their party scene at night… made a big deal and gave attitude entire time after. Overall this place sucks as a restaurant night scene is pretty cool. But authentic Cuban taste is just not there at all. Not even the Beans 🫘😔

Honestly, from the reviews I thought this would be a hit. I ordered my food to go. So disappointing, the pork chunks were so dry and tough some of it was hard to cut even with a knife. This is a staple Cuban dish, how could you screw this one up so badly? The rice and beans were good so I give it 2 stars but $35 for this meal, major disappointment. I would not come back it’s too overpriced not worth the chance of another bad experience.

Cuba libre food should be better. Food is not good at all or authentic i have never had empanadas so bad before, the croquettes was probably the best thing i tried. The ropa vieja was not good either nothing like authentic cuban ropa vieja. I had ordered a churrasco thinking it would be good but was completely fooled it was horrendous with a taste like if it was burnt on the grill on one side, i had also ordered a side of yuca fries that never came out. The flan was okay. The bar stools need to be tightened or adjusted so they dont feel all wobbly. I just recommend avoiding this place if you’re visiting out of town or if you’re from the local area. Not to mention $18 for 2 empanadas is steep when they’re awful. Don’t visit for the food during the day. They need to reevaluate how they are making their food.
