Excellent breakfast with friends. Amazing selections. Great selection of omelets, waffles, pancakes. Homefries are very good. The multigrain toast some of the best I have had at a breakfast place.
Went on a Sunday and was surprised how fast we got seated and had our breakfast. The food was very good.
Love this place! Family friendly local diner. Saturday night steak dinners and kids eat free. Breakfast served nearly all day, so great for brunch. Salad bar with entrees and great desserts. Sometimes a line to sit in a big dining hall - because everyone loves this place!
We all had a great time and shared the mimosa flight. Only feedback is the Gluten free French toast needs more eggs as the GF stuff is always very dry.
I had my mother's Memorial Celebration picnic today and Dave catered for me!!! I can't thank him enough for the outstanding delicious food he prepared. His beans and greens are a hit as well as his sausage, roasted potatoes and pasta!!! I would highly recommend him for your get togethers. He is so down to earth, makes you feel like family! Thank you again Dave!!!
Mike and the charbroil family doing an amazing job every time. It’s easy to find good food. It’s hard to find good food consistently. That’s what the Char family has been doing for years. Thank you!
Sure, it doesn't look like much more than your average diner... But the food is great, there's a little something that everyone loves the servers are great, and I guarantee you will need a wheelbarrow to get yourself back to your car. On a chart of 1-10, I rate this phenomenal (ok, I will temper this by saying I was having dinner with an old friend, which makes any dining experience great) But this makes Nick Tahous the second best dining experience in the Monroe County area(and, let's be honest- you don't want Tahous unless it's 2 in the morning and you're hammered, and you can't get that now- mores the pity) Char Broil rocks
Wonderful family ambience. All their turkey sandwiches and entrees house cooked turkey.. delicious and moist. Now serving cocktails as well. My sisters 💓 is bloody Mary.
Very attentive staff. Nice atmosphere and clean. Had the salmon and salad bar. Very tasty, salmon was cooked properly, not dried out. Have been going there for 30+ years. Rarely a diappointment.
Super friendly staff and great food. This place is a go-to for my partner and I for breakfast.
What can you say about Char Broil? It's an institution! Great food, great staff. The specials are always great. If you show up during prime time on the weekends, don't worry, the line moves a lot faster than you'd think :)
I've been in several times as of late...breakfast is always spot on! Great service, prices and they have never complained when a 9:30 breakfast with an old friend lasts almost 2 hours! I did tip well! My dad loved this place, and he passed away on 12/14/2019...now It's my place...very cozy and family focused
Always a great place to eat. Food is fresh. Love the char broil flavor like off the backyard grill. Great, friendly service didn't need to ask for a thing. Gonna be back many more times and bring family and friends!
Great diner! Breakfast is delicious. I tried the mimosa flight. Try the passion fruit it's a great flavor! The service is very friendly and quick. I highly recommend for a great breakfast!
First time customer...and will now be a repeat one ❕️❗️...Very warming, relaxing, welcoming atmosphere...Our waitress Kerri was humorous, quick, and accommodating...Very nice portions of food and definitely reasonable prices....All around a very sweet pleasurable first time experience..
Great food, nice and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend this place for freinds and family.
We love taking our family of 4 to Char Broil for breakfast. Despite them being ridiculously busy, they always get us in and out quickly, which is helpful when you have a 2 and 4 year old. Food is always delicious and service is always friendly. Highly recommend!
Went on a Saturday morning at 9 and they were very busy. We were seated quickly, had a very nice and polite waitress and got our food quickly. It was delicious too! I had a full stack of French toast.
Great service and delicious food.
Food is great but was surprised their cheese omlettes have sliced cheese melted on top instead of melted inside. Still very tasty food. Only breakfast and lunch and best to go during week because weekends line is out the door
One of the best diners in Rochester. Quick, friendly service, great diner food options (breakfast, burgers sandwiches, soups, dessert, coffee, etc).
Great breakfast! Delicious bacon cooked perfectly. Scrambled eggs great! And special request... Grilled cinnamon raisin Danish! Oh my! And from 7-9 am great place to relax and have good conversation while enjoying good food & helpful friendly service.
This place is absolutely wonderful. My waitress was 🧨. She was attentive, brought our food to us and loved our daughter. The establishment itself was in emaculate condition. I ordered breakfast on Sunday and with the football rush, the only downfall is the wait time and the fact that they line you up like you're in a concentration camp and don't call by order that you got there. Other that that, super solid and delicious.
Fast, cheerful service. Homemade soup was delicious. Husband enjoyed the grilled ham & cheese pannini. Very busy but waitress served us promptly. Food came fast after our order was taken. Clean. Recommend it for quality and price.
UPDATE: Really enjoy exploring the extensive menu at Char Broil Family Restaurant! Staff are really wonderful, knowledgeable and honest. Recently had the smoked salmon; light but filling and delicious! ORIGINAL: Excellent! We'll be regulars! Real turkey in the Turkey Club and lots of it! Thanks, Anna, for your friendly, prompt service and great recommendations!
One of the best restaurants in all of Rochester. They have amazing food for all meals of the day. Their servers are very nice. Their food also comes out at a very quick time at a reasonable price.
Clean, great service, excellent menu. The food is home made and exactly what you're looking for. Kid friendly, bright atmosphere, and great service. Love the chicken and waffles and a quick cocktail! Favorite restaurant for sure!!
This place is wonderful. Very busy, but the service is perfect and gets you in and out. Prices are very reasonable for the tasty consistent food and enjoyable atmosphere.
Best. Diner. Ever. The staff is always fantastic and I haven't been able to find anything to match it since I've moved away. Always my first stop when I visit Rochester. Best diner food and a damn fine cup of coffee. I miss it just writing this review.
OMG I love this place! The first time I ever had waffles w/ fresh strawberries ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food is always fresh & hot! Coffee is always fresh! Great cooks & great staff overall!
To everyone that works there I thank you.Best chicken and waffles ever! I introduce it to everyone in my life and they love it. It’s best for lunch time. It’s my favorite meal god bless the cooks!!! My food is always done so fast it’s amazing - Steve
I go here about twice a month on a Sunday morning, the food is very good always have the pancakes my wife has one of their omelette selections , even though it is busy the service is fast and the servers pay attention to come over regularity to keep coffee filled. The line when you get there can sometimes look long but it moves a lot faster than you would expect.
Great diner, love the food and service is always 10/10!
Had a great breakfast while visiting our student. Food came out quickly and was excellent. There was a 15 minute wait on a Sunday but the line moved quickly. Would definitely go back.
Personally I love the food, no matter the day, time or age I am always met with a warm welcome and daily check ins asking if anything is needed. The waitresses are very kind and considerate to religions, when it comes to their beliefs on consumption. Realizing that I don't eat pork when asking for a meal they immediately asked if I was interested in an alternative rather than asking for the main 3 options
We eat here every Saturday morning. Food is great. Service is swift. Servers are kind and congenial. The owner is friendly and the bathroom is spotless!
This is one of my favorite family restaurants :). We’ve been coming since I was a kid (40+ years). It’s a good value with a huge selection of great food with quality fresh ingredients. What else can you ask for? My son loves the hot coco and milkshakes (obviously) and you gotta try the steak and eggs with the strip steak! It’s a ten.
This place is awesome, fast, affordable especially with a family of 5 and the food is delicious. The only thing I question is the kids meal comes with free ice cream if they're good. Both times we went we had to ask for it. The scoops of ice cream as a dessert are expensive so I don't know if they're trying to save on cost. It'd be nice to be asked if they want it. Regardless of that we'll be regular weekend customers 😊❤️ I had biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. They were super tasty!
Great experience even on busy Mother's Day at noon. First time here--food, service and prices were wonderful and will definitely be back.
Char Broil Family Restaurant is consistently excellent. We’ve never had a bad experience here—the staff is always friendly, attentive, and efficient. No matter how busy it gets, they’re great at getting people seated quickly and keeping things moving without ever making it feel rushed. The food is always fresh, delicious, and comforting—exactly what you want from a classic family restaurant. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, and it shows every time we visit. Highly recommend!
Always quick service and perfect food and coffee.
The MOST AMAZING BREAKFAST IN ROCHESTER!!! I always like to treat myself with the “Bruin Breakfast”. It’s such good quality and today I decided to get a croissant with my breakfast and it was HUGE, flaky and buttery! No cheap quality like these other places and the prices are UNBELIEVABLE for how much you get. Amazing!
Amazing quality and big portions. Shawn does a great job getting people in and out. It’s a Brighton staple
My family has always been a fan of the restaurant. My mom, sister, and I went the other day, but we've been going for years. We've gone before my other sister moved away, and we would go after my dad got out of the hospital from treatment. The food is good (I wouldn't say the best in Rochester), the atmosphere is nice (plenty of families and young adults), and the pace is quick (they turn tables, but aren't pushing you out). For the price, the food is awesome. I had the italian breakfast the last time I went. It was the first time I got it, and it won't be the last! It's a convenient location, just off 390 on Monroe Ave. If you can make it, I highly recommend it!
I use to bring my Father for breakfast every Saturday, now I visit to see their newest hire, Tyson.
Its old school burgers. The kinda place you rememeber going when you were a kid with your parents for a special occasion. Its delightful
The Charbroil is a cozy, little diner. I've only been there for breakfast, but their lunch and dinner menu looks pretty good too. There is plenty of parking, fast friendly service and the food is very tasty. Cash and cards are accepted. They offer real maple syrup, which is a nice treat. If you don't use the whole bottle you can take the rest home with you, so that's fun. I like their corned beef and hash. It's definitely a basic recipe, but they serve it crispy. I hate when it's too salty and soggy. The offer mimosas, which are always a great way to get your Monday morning off to a good start. Check out the Charbroil, it is an upscale/quality diner experience.
As diners go-this one is a winner 🏆. I have been coming here for years. I always think it shows dedication and consistency when the owner is always front and center!!
We love the Char Broil for breakfast! Seasonal options are great. Servers are friendly & attentive. Always a great experience!
Stopped by with my kids for some lunch. Restaurant was packed but we only waited a few minutes to be seated. Food was delicious. Service was quick and very friendly. We'll definitely be back again!
i stopped in on my lunch break and told them i didnt have much time. Kerri was sure to get my meal out quickly and Curly’s bubbly energy made this experience great, i wish i had more time to enjoy the meal and vibes! great service. delicious chicken and waffles.
Diner food at it's finest. Blueberry pancakes were perfect. The service was excellent. Will be going back to check out other items on the menu.
Amazing restaurant! The service and staff were awesome, and the prices were good. The main focus would be the amount of food and drink options that are given. The drinks surprised me. (Hot chocolate, cappuccinos, root beer float, etc.) People obviously like it here since the place is packed with customers. We didn't have a problem with seating at all though. An overall great experience.
I don’t like diners because they feel kind of trashy. This diner finally does what other diners can’t. This diner is classy and clean. It feels like a very nice restaurant however, the final bill remains low like you would expect at a diner. 10 out of 10 I highly recommend. One of the best diners I’ve ever been to.
Char Broil is a large diner with a pleasantly large menu. The food was prepared quickly and was delicious. Service was prompt. Check out was the fastest I've seen. They have plenty of parking. The isles between booths are a bit narrow. Wheelchair access may be difficult. In that situation, call them. They may have a special solution.
First time visiting Char Boil Family Restaurant, and I was thoroughly impressed! We came for breakfast on a bustling Mother’s Day Sunday and managed to grab seats at the counter. Despite the crowd, our order was taken in less than 5 minutes, which was amazing. The staff worked seamlessly, handling the busy atmosphere with ease. The servers were incredibly friendly, adding to the overall great experience. Highly recommend this spot for a delicious and efficient meal, even on a busy day!
My farmily recently suffered a tragedy that made the news. We stopped in after a service up the street. The family ordered food and everyone cleared their plate. The food was excellent. Someone in the staff must have recognized us because when it came time to pay they told us it was on them and gave us their condolences. That really touched us. Great food and great people. I will definitely be back.
I mistakenly wore a Miami Dolphins jacket here, right before they played the Bills for the division. An employee commented “alright” let’s get rowdy. Or something along those lines and made a flex. I’m sure he was only being funny and was harmless. It made me uncomfortable though. I decided to leave. Unfortunate because I drove 20 minutes specifically to eat there as I heard good things. I didn’t have time left for my lunch break and had to eat McDonalds. I will try there again someday. Just won’t wear any team paraphernalia
This has been the main stay dinner in this part of town for decades. It's clean, reasonably priced, family owned and operated for two or three generations. The food is good and the staff, for the most part is well trained. Be prepared for a short wait most of the time as this place is always busy. Sunday morning or Friday night expect to wait 10 for a table or 30 minutes for a booth.
The food was so great that I forgot to take pictures. I ate a nice, soft rib eye with delicious mashed potatoes with gravy.. Aside from that i was allowed to eat from their salad bar. I loved the food, customer service and cozy ambiance. I fully recommend.
Very fast efficient service. Breakfast is exceptional, and will be revisiting to explore there lunches.
Great spot for breakfast and lunch. Never had a bad meal. The place gets packed quickly around lunch time, you need to go early.
The updated Mid-Century decor is great. Always a reliable spot for tasty, reasonably priced meals. The staff is always very friendly!
Food and service were very good. The menu is confusing. My wife ordered a build your own omlette. The menu reads pick 2 and has a price next to it off $9.20 when I got the bill it had 8.85 for the omlette and .30 for each item. Not that the .25 is going to brash me but I never really got a clarification on how it ended up like that.
Breakfast was ok. A little on the pricy side. Service was prompt and personal.
Great place for breakfast, had the Bruin Breakfast which included 3 eggs, 4 bacon strips, home fries and a bagel. Excellent traditional breakfast!
I love this casual family diner. I've been eating here since they opened, as have most of their patrons. Great salad bar. I would give it 5 stars, but I'm holding out because there is no non-dairy milk substitutes for those of us that like our coffee, but are lactose intolerant!
While in the Rochester area for a couple of concerts, we were in need of a meal and wanted to avoid the chains. This place has all the "goods": parking, cleanliness, friendly staff and of course good diner style food. We had burgers and fries, which were delivered as requested and very tasty. This place has all your breakfast faves, soups, sandwiches, wraps, a few entrees and desserts. This will be on our short list when we're in the area!
Got the turkey sandwich with peppers and onions in a grilled pita. It was delicious. Food came out quick, service was nice. We were sat right away. Alot of older people go here. Prices are reasonable as well.
Stopped in for late breakfast. Charbroil was very busy with a line out the door. Food was delicious and done perfectly. I am only giving this restaurant 4 stars because silverware was dirty. Otherwise I would highly recommend this restaurant/diner. Owner is always on premises and waitresses are always sweet. Hot turkey sandwiches and breakfast items are wonderful!!
Service was good. Food was good however the egg in my daughter's eggs Benedict could have been cooked longer. But my eggs over easy was perfect, not easy to do. Would recommend breakfast here.
Good salad bar, a convenient place to meet up with people at every time of the day: lunch crowd is a heavy one as people meet during their lunch breaks. Service is fast enough to keep up with their crowd's need for quick food, as well as a reliable food choice of solid quality and comfort favorites. Definitely a place for both the locals and those who are looking for a place to stop, eat, and get going again.
Good food. I thought a little high price for what I ordered. The one side I had was carrots. When the came out they were dry carrot sticks in a cup??
Classic diner style. I've only gone for breakfast, but open for lunch as well. Was formerly open for dinner, but not since early pandemic. Breakfasts are hearty and service is prompt and friendly. Prices are very reasonable. Wide selection of eggs, pancakes, french toast, waffles, Benedicts and other breakfast fare.
Table was not wiped down prior to seating us nor was table near us. I had to ask someone to wipe it down after they brought us menus, silverware etc. Tips from previous customers were left on table. They were busy so to order food was a long time. Food was good so that was a plus.
The salad bar was fresh, however a couple of plates that were stacked there were dirty which is always a turn-off. The waitress was very accommodating. The turkey dinner was good, but for the price, a whole berry cranberry sauce instead of canned, would have made a difference. The mashed potatoes were delicious. Friendly, 'community atmosphere' and it looks like a lot of regulars go there.
The food was delicious and my server was a sweetheart. HOWEVER and this is a BIG HOWEVER. I will NOT be coming back. The “hostess” which I later found out is a part owner is an about and rude and condescending as they come. As I am waiting for a table he has his hands all over one of the servers. As I am eating I watch him walk around like he thinks he’s some god. What a joke. As I am about done eating he proceeds to make rude gestures to one of the servers to get a table of old ladies (late 70s and 80s) out of there as he has people waiting to be seated. This was in no way discreet. He was very rude. The server who seemingly had no choice but to politely ask the ladies to leave I over hear one day “I’m sorry we haven’t seen each other in ages”. He should be ashamed of himself. I will gladly support local restaurants, one that respect its patrons, and this one will not be one of them.
My food was terrible. It's hard to screw up eggs, but they managed to. The home fries were soggy and not at all crisp. They were very mushy. The bacon was the only thing that was okay. It was very underwhelming.
I was excited because they have gluten free French toast but it was so so so dry it might as well just have been 3 slices of slightly cinnamon flavored bread. it was great to just walk in and seat myself. the staff was very nice. the bacon and sausage was good. the spring wrap was good 👍. update: the croissant breakfast sandwich is also good. the pancakes lack flavor thou. maybe more butter when grilling would help.
The staff is nice and we sat right down on a saturday morning, but the food is not that good and a little expensive for breakfast.
Food was pretty bland to be honest but no complaints regarding service or Cleanliness.
Very popular diner with an extensive menu and is very affordable. The diner had a nice charm to it and service was overall okay. Our waitress seemed overworked and seemed easily annoyed when we asked for a soda refill. The Charbroil Special is a very good value for what you get. The food is average and they use real eggs. When you get the bill, you bring it to the front to pay.
The service here was friendly and fast however the food was so so. Kind of bland; needed more flavor. I had salmon and had to douse it is lemon juice. Our waitress was amazing and on point. Having said that I would never go back here. My daughters are mixed and I felt many less than friendly stares from the other customers. In fact I have never seen so many uptight, unfriendly white people in my life and I have been down south! The only person of color other than my kids was the dishwasher. In 2019 I can't and won't deal with such ignorance and I certainly wont spend my hard earned money at places like this.
Service was fine, but the food was pretty bad. The mashed potatoes with gravy tasted like it belonged either in a prison or a nursing home. The steak I got was so moist, but in a watery way not juicy, and it had almost no flavor. It was almost as though it had been boiled first and then seared on the grill. The onion rings were mediocre and my shrimp was good. I honestly don't recommend them. I won't be going here again.
Came on a Saturday night just after 6:30. No one at hostess desk, owner seated us and gave us the menus. Three adults and twochildren watched multiple tables have waitresses coming taking orders while we sat for twenty mins before leaving. Very disappointed won’t be back during summer
Had an awful experience today for breakfast. I've been in the service industry for over 20 years and have never seen/experienced a server so rude. Every other server seemed friendly and even said hello and spoke to my child. As a server myself I was shocked by her behavior. I am trying to believe that something else was bothering her in her own life to treat someone like that. I tipped far more than I should have, but not even remotely close to what I normally would for decent service and having a 2 year old with me. Hopefully this is not normal treatment to her customers, I know I personally will not be returning because of this experience.
We decided to try a new place for breakfast. This restaurant is dated, the waitress was incredibly abrasive, the food is overpriced average at best.
Went in for a quick brunch and while waiting I noticed that I the other table got their order first while I arrived first to them (the arrive probably 10 minutes after I got in). When I followed up my order, they asked me about my food. Got disappointed and went out because I still need to do something and it is such a waste of time to start again and wait for nothing
This place has really gone downhill. I got food poisoning, after my visit there-Tuesday May 6th, 2025 @ 6:00 pm. Service, meh. I thought it would have been as decent in as years past. We were wrong. Sickly wrong.
I ordered 3 breakfast plates thru door dash for my family. Food looked great in the pictures. All 3 plates was the same, scrambled eggs with cheese 2 sausage 2 bacon and tater tots. The scrambled eggs was super crunchy. We were literally pulling shells out the eggs. I have pics. And the tator tots was over cooked and was also un edible.
Great food! Service not soo much unless you have a friendly person staff member. waitress was on key until you have a question about the bill. Cashier no smile on face and didn't ask if we enjoyed our time. It is sad how last person you see leaving a place can leave a lasting impression.
