Great experience at Okaru once again. Place is elegant, vibey, perfect for a dinner or larger event. Food is phenomenal- NYC quality on Long Island. Service is friendly, efficient, and organized.
Spectacular restaurant. We knew that we were coming back from the moment we walked in. The drinks were incredible and the food was outstanding. The staff was warm and welcoming. I am beyond excited to come back and enjoy this beautiful place again soon.
Alert - new restaurant review!!! The experience at Okaru really started as I turned off Main Street in Roslyn into the Okaru parking lot. As we approached the valet, I could not help but appreciate the historic beauty of the cottage like structure I was about to enter that was erected over 130 years ago. This was my first step out of typical Long Island suburbia, but the big one was when I entered this gem of a restaurant. The decor and style of every part of Okaru was everything from beautiful to interesting. Most people arrive at a restaurant just in time for their reservation, but with Okaru, I highly recommend arriving prior to your seating time to spend some time at the bar. Not only is the bar area a phenomenal atmosphere that sets the mood, but the cocktails are so creative and tasty, they warrant being enjoyed in this pre-dinner setting. And if you are not a cocktail person, the Japanese whiskey selection was top notch. Sitting at the bar, I could see glimpses of the main dining area through a separation wall made of beautiful vertical wooden beams which allowed me to see enough of the dishes being brought to other peoples tables, triggering my senses anticipate what's next...... After a cocktail, I was taken my table in the beautiful main dining area, that is adorned with a great piece of art on the back wall. And the menu...what a selection. Most of the time when I go to a place that has such a diverse selection of both prepared appetizers and entrees, and also such a great selection of sushi, I think there is no way both can be great. The crazy thing about Okaru is that they both are great. And I'm not the kind of person that likes to mix my sushi with prepared hot food, but it just worked here. Not only did the food look phenomenal, the quality and taste did not disappoint! Everything blended together so well no mater what I ordered. And the dessert, wow. When was the last time you went to a Japanese restaurant and said, "I cant wait to have dessert here?" (umm....never). Well, guess what, even though you don't know it yet, at Okaru, you cant wait. Simply put...yum! Beginning to end, Okaru did it right. I cant wait to come back and try the things on the menu I didn't have room in my stomach to try. And then go back again to have what I had the first time again. Just when you thought Roslyn couldn't step up its restaurant game....enter Okaru. As you can tell, I stayed away from telling you about specifics of any of the items that I consumed....and I know, thats what you wanted to hear...well in this situation, it was on purpose. Imagine if I saw the best movie ever and I came home and told you the entire plot before you went?!? That wouldn't be nice - right? On that note....Enjoy the show!!!
Okaru is everything the North Shore wanted. High quality food, drinks, people and ambiance. I have experienced the restaurant three times now and each time I’m delighted to step through the doors and be part of such a wonderful culinary experience. Grateful to have Okaru close by!
Much needed sushi heaven on LI! We’ve had sushi / sashimi in different cities in Japan and this place took us back there for sure. Apps and desserts are often skipped when dining out but here you can’t. The main course was so delish and fresh for all the sashimi / sushi we had and their cocktails are so good and generous with alcohol 🍸🍸 can’t wait to take my out of town/ country guests to impress them!
Amazing experience overall. Service was amazing and the food was out of this world would definitely come again and recommend for others to too. Also has Great management .
Overall awesome experience, definitely try the kakigori or green tea crepe for dessert 😋
The food is phenomenal! It is pricey, but the quality being served completely makes up. Every single dish we ordered was amazing!
Super high end Manhattan quality design & buildout. The food is comparable to a nobu or bond street. Staff is attentive & informed. Great scene. Highly recommended.
We had dinner on the first night of Okaru opening. Everything was beyond perfect. Staff was so nice, perfect crowd, magnificent room and top notch food! Will be going back.
Everything was great about this restaurant highly recommend
I loved it! Everything about this restaurant is amazing! The food ,the drinks and the atmosphere is perfect ! . It’s everything you want in a restaurant. No need to go to Manhattan. They brought Manhattan to you!
Exceptional high end asian cuisine. The only one on Long Island besides Toku and Okaru is levels above Toku. It is the equivalent of the known Manhattan Asian restaurants. Bond st. Did it again!
Wonderful experience. The food was amazing, and the service was friendly. Beautiful presentation and incredible flavors. Highly recommended.
The food is excellent. Ambiance of the restaurant has a very nice modern vibe, great service as well. We will definitely be back.
Absolutely loved this spot! A unique twist on traditional sushi with fresh ingredients that really elevate the flavor. The rolls were creative and beautifully presented, and the fish tasted incredibly fresh. Great vibe, friendly staff, and definitely a must-try for anyone who enjoys sushi with a bold, modern fusion. Will be back!
Already been twice! The first time, our server was not great. When the Manager, Robert, came by to ask how everything was, we gave him some feedback. Tonight, I had the opportunity to go back. This time, I cannot say enough. Our server, Justin, was AMAZING!!! He made excellent recommendations, was not on top of us, but yet extremely attentive. He kept looking over to see how we were doing. And best of all, he was easygoing and let us order what we wanted, when we wanted. When Robert passed by this time, we told him it was a stellar experience. He smiled, and replied “I incorporated your feedback from last time”. Kudos to you, Robert, for listening to your customers! Oh and by the way, the food is FANTASTIC!!! Tuna tart, spicy yellowtail, crispy rice with tuna, blue fin sushi special, Chilean see bass, eggplant, all to die for. Citrus granitas and Japanese bread pudding for dessert. Yum!!! 😋 Can’t wait to return ☺️
Truly an outstanding, delicious meal start to finish. Excellent hospitality and service. Lovely ambiance as well.
Elegant restaurant with an upscale vibe and very good table service. There is a bit of a scene and it can get loud (we went at 5:30pm on a Sunday), so just know that going in. Food was very good - we ordered the big eye tuna sashimi in blood orange ponzu sauce, mushroom salad, tuna rice crackers and the miso Chilean seabass. All very shareable and felt like a lighter meal for two people, but we were satisfied and didn't order more. The cocktails (old fashioned and lychee martini) we had were excellent. I would definitely go back, maybe to have dinner at the bar which seemed to be a lively scene. Beautiful interiors, felt like you were in NYC. Valet parking, but no stress there.
Had an amazing experience at Okaru. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The management clearly knows what they’re doing because everything ran smoothly. Daniel gave excellent service and made the night even better. I’ll definitely be back.
WOW. Our server ,Lois, was well informed helpful but not pushy. Food was as good as we have had in this genre. Can’t wait to go back beautiful atmosphere All the staff enthusiastic Dr S
Absolutely incredible restaurant in a beautiful location in Roslyn! As soon as you arrive you can feel how special this restaurant is. The space is modern, chic and elegant with a beautiful bar area and a gracious and welcoming staff! Start with the big eye tuna tarts, yellowtail sashimi, the scallop and uni hand rolls and the crispy rice…and their spicy togarashi margarita. All of their sushi and entrees are incredible - it is a memorable experience and we are excited to return for patio season!
The dinner enjoyed last night (party of two) at Okaru was in my humble opinion the best bargain in town; if not on the North Shore! They underprice for the imaginative and impeccable food served. You are not eating at this restaurant but rather dining (which is my preference when not eating with the grandkids)! Reading the prior reviews is most telling and do not require repeating. They tell a story of unsurpassed excellence in many ways and they tell a story of a restaurant that will have legs! The dining experience here reminded me more of the Four Season’s restaurant for dinner and Lutece for lunch from the days gone by. Those restaurants continued to strive for perfection in every way possible, which was testimony to their longevity. While those will be sorely missed, it’s a pleasure to have this restaurant as a replacement venue. Daniel the host and General Manager at 6”3” is not hard to miss and you should give him your feedback if you are lucky enough to eat here. He is the type of manager who would appreciate both positive and constructive comments with a big smile! Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy fine relaxed dining.
Stand out new restaurant! Beautiful decor, DELICIOUS food, and great service. In a town bustling with great food, Okaru stands out as something fresh, which is very hard to do. Everything we tried was over the top, from the drinks to the appetizers to the sushi. And the kimchi/salmon roll?!?!? Beyond. The menu is creative and you cannot go wrong. AMAZING and highly recommend it. Who needs the commute to NYC when we have Okaru here. I am feeling very lucky and have already booked future reservations. My new fave!
Delicious authentic upscale Japanese delicacies. The atmosphere is elegant, serene and comforable. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The drink menu matches the food menu in level of specialty, choice and quality! Steamed lobster gyoza are a must-have! The miatake mushroom soup was rich and delicious! The sushi was fresh, creative and much of the ingredients sourced directly from Japan. Particularly the big eye tuna which is a rarity here. Fantastic and delicious dining experience beginning to end. Okaru is what Roslyn and the North West Shore of Long Island has been waiting for a long time. We are looking forward to going back again soon!
Beautifully crafted menu and decor. Wow! Congratulations Okaru!!! Sure to be a staple in Roslyn and for the Long Island area. What a treat to have the talents of Marc Spitzer on LI! The food was delicious, the atmosphere electric, the vibe pumping in both the main dining room and the bar area, and our waiter, Matt, had great suggestions and was very intensive. We can’t wait to dine again!
Wow! What a wonderful addition to the historic Village of Roslyn. We celebrated a 56th anniversary and Okaru made it one of the best dining experiences in our lifetime. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. Congrats to Noam and Marc on this new and exciting restaurant! We will be back! Howard & Roz Kroplick
Okaru is hands down one of my new favorite spots! The food and service were excellent. Everything we had was incredibly delicious and fresh. And the drinks were just as good — super creative and perfectly made. Loved the space and ambience as well. Can’t wait to go back!
Highly recommended!! The restaurant is upscale-lively and Modern .Everything is tastefully designed. The staff was welcoming friendly and attentive they had a great knowledge of the menu. I had the Big eye tuna ,Sake braised short rib And the grilled wagyu skirt steak Every dish-melted in my mouth and had perfect balance of heat and flavor. The presentation of the dishes was Beautiful and artistic the restaurant had a cozy and intimate atmosphere prefect for a romantic dinner The restaurant offers valet parking and There is plenty of parking on the street. Highly recommend if you can get a reservation ! 🥂
Had a fantastic experience dining at Okaru. Right away, my guest and I were greeted by Robert, the manager, who was great and set an excellent tone from the very beginning. He made us feel welcomed, got us seated right away, and even taught us more about the restaurant overall. The rest of the staff were great as well, spent time going through the menu, and made sure we were satisfied with everything. The food was phenomenal, absolute 10/10 as well as the drinks. Will definitely be going back!
Had a fantastic dinner here tonight. Mathew our waiter was so knowledgeable and detailed when we asked what he suggests we try on the menu. Amazing staff, so sweet, sophisticated ambience yet sexy, and the food is top tier. So impressed by the options on the menu and there is plenty of options for a scallop and uni lover like me!!! Uni was incredible I could tell the quality of it was the Japanese grade uni and not the crappy California kind. We are new to the neighborhood and it’s very unfortunate for my boyfriend that this was so good because we will be back here probably too often.
Top notch experience. Service is excellent upscale/steak house level. Waitstaff were very attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and had great suggestions. The decor is very nice and outdoor seating has heaters to keep temperature comfortable. Food was equally amazing. My party ordered the Spicy Crispy Seabass (8/10), Tuna Crispy Rice (8.5/10), Sake Braised Short Rib (8.5/10), Blue Fin Toro sushi roll (7.5/10), Salmon Kimchee sushi roll (8.5/10), Chillean Sea Bass entree (10/10). There is also municipal parking directly next to the restaurant in addition to valet service offered. Very helpful if you are familiar with Roslyn and how dicey parking can be. Overall would recommend 100%!
Dinner was phenomenal—10/10! From start to finish, everything was absolutely delicious. We started with a round of drinks—the Spritz, Lychee Martini, and Old Fashioned—each one crafted to perfection. For appetizers, we had the crispy rice avocado, spicy shrimp, katsu bao buns, and wasabi tofu rolls—every bite was packed with incredible flavors and textures. For the main course, we enjoyed the salmon special, which was cooked beautifully. To finish, the yuzu shaved ice was the perfect refreshing and light dessert. The ambiance was stunning, with a gorgeous interior, great music, and an inviting atmosphere. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, making the experience even better. Highly recommend this spot—already looking forward to coming back!
We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Daniel provided outstanding service — he was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our visit. The food was absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience, and we will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!
The decor of the restaurant was stunning. Everyone that works at the restaurant was welcoming and accommodating. The drinks were delicious. The food was absolutely amazing. Everything that I ordered exceeded my expectations. It was the best meal I have ever had. I highly recommend trying Okaru. You will not be disappointed.
I never have to go to Manhattan again for sushi. From the vibes to the eats, Okaru really delivers. Every bite was better than the next and we can’t wait to return to try the hot food. We particularly loved the Tuna Tarts, King Salmon Sashimi, Hokkaido Scallop Roll, Salmon Kimchi roll and the spicy tuna crispy rice. Service at the sushi counter was also on point. Loved watching the chefs work!
Food was amazing. Almost everything we ordered was amazing. Perfectly made, beautifully decorated and came very fast considering how busy they were. High quality sushi/sashimi and the sea bass was very well cooked and portioned. Only issue which can't be blame at the restaurant was it was extremely loud that we had to scream to hear each other. Will repeat again.
I think Okaru deserves a Michelin star. The food was wonderful modern japanese cuisine with very professional and attentive staff. That table staff gave the vibe of being invested with the chefs and menu and were very friendly. Food was exquisite, staff were excellent, and decor was lovely. Make sure you make a reservation because it can get busy. Definitely will come again.
I have so many positive things to say about this restaurant! From the moment you walk in, the hostesses are welcoming and kind. The space is tastefully decorated. When you go, truly take it all in. The lights, the art, the ambiance that they’ve created, it’s warm, fun and thoughtful. And the food, it’s actually incredible. We ordered the Omakase, tuna roll, yellow tail temaki, Sake Braised short rib and the big eye tuna tarts (a MUST try!) every single meal had such unique and complimentary flavors. And everything is so fresh! The selection of Sake is incredible and the cocktails are delicious. This is beyond a restaurant, it’s truly a unique, fun experience. Highly recommend.
Really great menu. Everything we ordered was delicious and a good portion size. Service was great, especially considering how big the restaurant is and how much is going on. Had such a good time that I left my credit card at the restaurant, and the hostess called me about it right away. Thanks Okaru team
1st time here & let me tell you this restaurant was absolutely amazing. The service was top notch. Food & drinks were a 10/10. The vibe was great. Thank you for your hospitality and we will absolutely be back.
Great food. We waited a while to get a table even with reservations. People with the same party size who showed up 10-15 minutes after us were seated before us. But the food and our waiter were great. Still give it 5 stars. Highly recommend the Omakase dinner and the bread pudding and Matcha Affogato for dinner
This place is really fantastic. Food, service and ambiance is a solid 10 all around. I live in Manhattan, and I would definitely come out to Roslyn just for this restaurant. The owner has Bond St in the city, but Okaru is far superior - I think. I'd go as far as saying it's better than Nobu!
Beautiful restaurant valet parking was easy. I really want to complement the chef and the entire team making our experience fabulous. Every dish was delicious and proper . I love the artistic edge to the environment will definitely be coming back
Food was absolutely incredible! The sushi was so fresh and delicious, had the soft shell crab and and whole lobster for dinner, and the whiskey bread pudding for dessert. Everything was unbelievable! Atmosphere was also great. Highly recommend
Had one of my favorite dinners ever at Okaru last night! The food, service, and atmosphere were all amazing and I can't wait to go back.
I went to Okaru for Valentines Day and had the most amazing experience. My server Lois was the sweetest person ever. She recommended some of the best sushi, appetizers, and dessert options. The food and atmosphere overall were excellent. Highly recommend
We came here to celebrate our anniversary & we were taken care by Natalia, the manager. We had made reservations 3 weeks before coming and it was very packed as it was Saturday night — but Natalia saved the night by being so attentive and getting us seated. Every single staff member was sweet and professional— and the food was absolutely phenomenal. Will be back soon! The wonderful night would not have been possible without Natalia and the team, people like Natalia make a huge difference when it comes to the customers wanting to visit again and again.
Okaru is an elite establishment featuring a stunning interior with exceptional staff. So many creative and fun options to try from the menu like the Big Eye Tuna Tarts and both the Crispy Spicy Bass and Shrimp bites. My Lamb Chops had great flavor and sides, and both desserts were delicious!
The restaurant itself is quite modern and elegant, the aesthetics here shine. The staff checked us in and brought us to our table with zero wait, I cannot stress how nice and refreshing that is. The hot towels were a nice touch. The drinks came quickly and the appetizers as well. The sashito peppers and the edamame were good and the salad although simple were excellent. The sushi rolls were properly presented and everything tasted fresh. The wait staff was excellent and very attentive. While waiting for the valet the manager personally came outside and reviewed our experience. In all my time, I’ve never experienced that level of attention, very impressed. I would definitely give Okaru a try.
Excellent in every way. Almost refreshing experience. Loved the oysters and I don’t even eat oysters. Highly recommend reserving brunch and asking to place your order for their matcha souffle pancakes ahead of time as its apparently very laborious. I would go here over Toku any day.
I ate here last night for the first time with a few friends, and we'll definitely be going back. Some of the dishes were downright amazing: Chicken Katsu Steamed Bun, Grilled Octopus, Seared Hokkaido Scallops, Mushroom Rice Gohan, and both the Tuna and Caviar Crispy Rice all are going to be things I'd order again -- or even go back specifically for. I also need to give a shout-out to two of the specials: The Wagyu Gyoza were amazingly crispy on one side and soft and tender otherwise. Fantastic texture and flavor. We rolled the dice with the Foie Gras and Seared Akami Tuna. Turns out those two things work incredibly well together! The dishes I'd give a pass next time were the Spicy Crispy Shrimp and Avocado Crispy Rice. Neither was bad, just compared to everything else they fell short. For dessert, the Whiskey Bread Pudding was excellent, and I got a Matcha Affogato which was delicious. We also ordered the "Omakase" option on the menu as well as some nigiri pieces and rolls. All of the fish was of high quality, and the rice was beyond reproach. If you like uni, then definitely get the uni here. They said it's from Hokkaido and I 100% believe them; it was some of the best I've had. (I put omakase in quotes above because that's what it's called on the menu, but presumably the Chef's Grand Tasting Menu and just the Tasting Menu would also fall under the omakase category. So it's a bit of a weird naming convention, IMO.) On the sake list we tried two Okaru exclusive bottles (possibly re-badged?), and both were great: Great Wave and Black Label, both Junmai Ginjo. Service was fast and efficient. No complaints there. Prices are high, but I feel like it was good value for money. They seem to be using commensurately expensive ingredients, and spending time on prep and presentation. The interior decor is beautiful, but the only downside to the restaurant comes with all the wood and hard surfaces. When we got there, the dining room was pretty full, and it was loud enough to make conversation difficult. But not a big deal considering how good the meal was otherwise; It didn't detract from our experience overall.
Okaru was incredible 🤍 The vibes, the service, the food everything was perfect. The sushi was so fresh, the crispy rice was unreal, and every dish tasted even better than it looked. Such a beautiful spot for a cozy date night. 100% coming back. ✨🍣
What a great experience we had in Okaru, located in the heart of Roslyn Village. From the impeccable service to the food to the ambience, Okaru has made a leaping progression since opening. Food: We ordered four appetizers, love them all. Spicy yellowtail sashimi, steamed lobster gyoza, spicy crispy seabass is crispy yet melt-in-your-mouth tender (our fav!) and seared Hokkaido scallops were all perfectly cooked. For entrees we had mushroom rice gohan, red miso lamb chop, salmon aburi handroll, snow crab handroll, bluefin Toro Roll, spicy king crab roll, seared salmon aburi roll. Beside the lamb chops was a little to the bland side, everything was really great! Dessert didn’t disappoint either. We ordered four and love all four! Japanese whiskey bread pudding was the star!!!! Services: Compared to our last experience with Okaru six months ago, this time both the services and food have elevated a lot! The restaurant was packed as usual but we got seated in the main dining room in less than five minutes. Staffs are friendly, attentive and professional. The hostess, Flora, greet us with warmth. The manager, Natalia, came by our table making sure everything is good and that we have a good time. It was a surprise birthday celebration for my husband, who coincidentally also had an impromptu conference call an hour into the dinner. So timing was a little tight. Although the service was quick and our food came out pretty fast, my husband still needed to leave the seat and stepped out for a conference call towards the end of the dinner. I told our hostess Flora about this situation and she helped me coordinating with my waitress Ally, who’s very attentive and pleasant, as well as the kitchen staffs, making sure dessert and cake with candle will be brought out as soon as my husband came back to our table. This attentive service on a busy night def made Okaru stand out in this wildly competitive restaurant district. Will def come back!
I swear every time we go, it gets better and better. The fish is so fresh and delicious. The manager Rob is the best manager we have ever met. The service is impeccable. Love this place so much. The dessert tower is so pretty too 🍨
I been to lots of Japanese locations in my life and I have to say this is the top one. The tomahawk out beats any stake house in long island and the fish that they have is fresh of the fresh. The oyster its one of the best i have had in a very long time.
Unparalleled experience, the flavors, and thoughtful presentation. Delicious all around and the waiters were seamless, didn’t miss a beat and felt very cared for! I sat at the sushi bar and what a treat to see the beautiful works of art they’re creating. Second time here and will come again! Plus the music and overall atmosphere is always a good vibe!
I went out here with a few girlfriends and wasn’t expecting to eat so much being vegetarian but was wowed by the amount of vegan options and by how good they all were! Highlights were the mushroom salad (even from those who ate all the fish/sushi), heirloom tomato carpaccio, avocado crispy rice and the Japanese eggplant hand-roll. The biggest highlight of the night though was dessert. It’s hard to choose my favorite but if you can only pick a couple, go with the matcha crepe cake or chocolate soufflé. Definitely would go back just to have more desserts! Big compliments to the pastry chef! On top of all of the amazing food- the service was really stand out- with servers knowing and verifying all dietary preferences and giving great recommendations. Our group also appreciated that we could actually hear our dinner conversation and didn’t have to yell over loud music or other tables- the vibes were just right. An overall great experience!
As someone who lives in NYC, I’m always looking for restaurants with both great ambiance and great food - and that’s not always easy to find on Long Island. But Okaru in Roslyn completely exceeded expectations. The service was incredible. Our server was kind, attentive, and truly wanted to make sure we had a great experience. As someone with celiac, I was also so impressed by how seriously they took my gluten allergy - most of the menu could be made gluten-free, and I felt totally safe and taken care of. We started with the warm Japanese mushroom salad - such a good way to kick things off. The spicy yellowtail sashimi was amazing (next time I’m getting the king salmon), and the crab crispy rice, salmon tobanyaki, and mushroom gohan rice were all so flavorful and satisfying. Sushi was super fresh too - great fish quality. The biggest surprise was dessert: the summer berries kakigori. I didn’t expect much from something described as shaved ice, but it was infused with grapefruit?, yuzu, and berries and ended up being the table favorite - even over the chocolate dessert. Whether you're gluten-free or not, Okaru is a total standout - delicious food, great vibe, and an experience worth repeating.
Tomas is an amazing waiter who provided exceptional service and amazing menu suggestions. He really made our dinner special. The food here is phenomenal and great quality. You will not be disappointed. Ambiance is luxury and beautiful, perfect for a date night! Highly recommended Okaru!!
The food and service was excellent! The restaurant was fully booked on a Saturday night so highly recommend reservations. Our waiter made excellent recommendations and we enjoyed each item we ordered. As a huge lychee martini enthusiast - it was perfect here. The sushi was high quality and presentation was excellent! We will be back for sure!
The decor and ambiance was exquisite. The chef ventured out in the main dining room and the general manager, Daniel, afforded us a welcoming and informative conversation during our meal. The food was prepared with great attention to detail and arrived at the perfect temperature to table. All items we ordered were extremely tasty and satiating. In fact, it was so good that my wife came back the next day and ran into our neighbors who also returned the subsequent day.
Wow! Everything we had here tonight was incredibly delicious and fresh, tried a little bit of everything which we believe was the right approach. Ambiance is quiet and dimly lit but it's nice inside. Valet options out front of course, solid cocktail menu and amazing sushi rolls stood out amongst our selections for the night. We tried some of the chef specials as well, everything was great , pics will not do it justice.

Tomas is an amazing waiter who provided exceptional service and amazing menu suggestions. He really made our dinner special. The food here is phenomenal and great quality. You will not be disappointed. Ambiance is luxury and beautiful, perfect for a date night! Highly recommended Okaru!!
Good food, good vibes. Salad needs to be cleaned better as it had small bits of sand in it. Waiters handed you the plates and menus instead of placing it down in front of you as higher end restaurants should. Food was really fresh, and the service was otherwise attentive. I’d recommend. Great date spot if you’re not from around here.
Here for wife's bday getting the tasting menu. Food was good overall but there were quite a bit of raw seafood so ask ahead of time. I think they asked me about allergies a bit late-- after the first course lol We reserved a seat around the sushi chef and my wife thought they gave it away because we were late but I dont see any seats around the sushi chef?!
Everything was great! Food, service and crowd. Only reason I’m not giving a 5 star is because the valet wanted more tip to bring our car, was kinda rude.
Nothing was bad, but nothing was memorable either. We had the scallop sashimi which was overpowered by the greens, king crab roll that was nothing special, and the mushroom gohan that had good umami but the rice didn’t get crispy. The salmon kimchee roll was delicious and the chicken katsu buns were good. Green tea Mille crepe was good but not patisserie level. Service was friendly but felt very green for a finer dining establishment.
Very nice upscale, clean, good service. Drinks are excellent. Sushi rolls are good, I had the shrimp tempura roll and smelled rancid. The waffle and chicken wasn't worth what I paid for. The omlete and rolls like spicy salmon were good. Overall I enjoyed my experience and will return.
Okaru – Roslyn, NY 8.5/10 The atmosphere buzzed with life—tables filled with conversation and music playing just loud enough to feel the vibe without drowning out talk. Lighting was dim but thoughtfully done, casting a warm and cozy glow that made the space feel intimate and upscale. The staff was attentive and genuinely eager to please, guiding us through the menu with knowledge and friendliness. That said, there’s still room for some fine-tuning in terms of timing and fluidity—small service hiccups that, once addressed, would elevate the experience to match the sleek setting. To start, the crispy rice with avocado was a standout—light, crunchy, and generously topped. It was noticeably better than the version served just up the road at Toku, which tends to feel heavier and less refined. For the main course, the steak entrée was perfectly executed—juicy, tender, and seared with precision. However, the Chilean sea bass, while cooked well, lacked the bold flavors or visual flair you’d expect from a premium dish and ended up feeling underwhelming compared to the rest of the menu. Dessert, thankfully, closed the night on a high note. The banana dessert was rich without being cloying, and the bread pudding was warm, pillowy, and fresh—clearly made in-house and served with care. Overall, Okaru is a strong new addition to Roslyn’s dining scene, offering flashes of excellence and a cool, inviting vibe. With a few adjustments, it has the potential to be a go-to spot for both casual nights out and special occasions.
We celebrated our anniversary as first time guests, reservation on Saturday night. I’d say I initially felt slighted as we were denied a corner table that could have technically seated 3. Hostess explains they need to save in case they get 3 guests, then seats 2 guests there 5 minutes later. Thankfully, the server and staff more than made up for it by providing stellar service and good recommendations as we tasted our way through several plates some that stood out were green salad and fried chicken bao bun. Overall a nice evening, in a beautiful new addition to Roslyn Village
The food was absolutely outstanding! It was everything we expected and more. The service was a little delayed and the atmosphere a little cramped (which I would have even rated less...but the FOOD!) My new favorite spot
OKARU (Roslyn) — personal review I went with a group of three and we did the tasting menu at $195 per person. Overall, it was enjoyable and polished, but slightly overpriced for what you get—more “special night out” pricing than a clear value play. Atmosphere & setting The strongest part of the experience is the space itself. OKARU is set up as a modern Japanese-inspired restaurant with a distinctly calm, design-forward vibe. The room feels intentional—clean lines, warm lighting, and a well-designed, upscale ambience that makes it feel like a destination rather than just another sushi spot. It’s the kind of place that immediately signals “date night / celebration.” Drinks We tried: • Okaru Spritz • Yen Zen • Old Fashioned They were good across the board—balanced, well-made, and easy to drink—but, like the food, they felt a bit overpriced relative to what was in the glass. You’re paying for the program and the room. Food — highlights and what stood out In addition to the tasting menu, we also had: • Snow crab sushi — clean, nicely put together, and satisfying. • Seaweed salad — solid, familiar, nothing wrong with it. • Pumpkin soup — comforting and well-executed; a nice change of pace from the colder/raw items. From the tasting menu, the clear standout was: • Tuna with foie gras and pear — easily the best bite of the night. The richness of the foie gras paired with the tuna, and the pear adding a subtle sweetness, made it feel the most “wow” and the most memorable course. Overall Great ambience, strong presentation, and a few genuinely excellent bites, but the $195 tasting menu (and cocktails) land a little high for the overall experience. If you go, I’d go for the atmosphere and that tuna/foie/pear moment—just don’t expect it to feel like a bargain.
I had a great experience at Okaro Roslyn. The food is truly impressive — the pizza tuna was one of my favorites, the sushi is extremely fresh, and the seabass was delicious and had a texture almost like rock shrimp. The standout dish for me was the spicy tuna crispy rice. It’s honestly the best I’ve ever had — the rice is softer than most places, which makes the bite perfect. Definitely a 10/10 dish. The only downside is that the drinks are very expensive, so just keep that in mind. Otherwise, the food and overall experience were excellent. Would 100% come back!
We celebrated some big family wins at Okaru with a 5 PM reservation. Heads-up: they require a credit card hold, and there’s a $35/person fee for cancellations within 24 hours — fair, but worth noting. The space is stunning, valet is convenient, and service was friendly (shoutout to Bryant). However, the restaurant is very loud inside — they’d benefit from adjusting the bass for a better dining experience. Drinks were hit or miss. The Lychee Martini was funky (3/10), but the Lady 0 with sake was fantastic (10/10). Food-wise, standout dishes included the foie gras & tuna special (10/10), tuna crispy rice (10/10), and mushroom gohan (8/10). Sushi rolls, however, were disappointing — mostly bland and mushy. Desserts were solid, especially the summer berries kakigori and green tea mille crepe. Overall: 7/10. A trendy spot with some highlights, but for a $700+ bill, we expected more. Worth trying once, but better food/value can be found elsewhere on the island.
The food is always great, I’m a frequent visitor and I love the bar staff, they need to do better at the hostess but normally everyone else is pleasant to deal with, they also don’t answer the phone to any reservation issue on Sundays. “They are too busy”

The food was top notch. Big eye tuna tarts were so delicious, tuna crispy rice solid, skirt steak solid(little over cooked for medium rare. Go with rare). Gyoza was okay. The experience was mediocre for the price point. Sushi rolls were solid. Servers were eh, the crowd i guess what might be typical for roslyn. Someone with a little shitty fancy dog in here? It was good food, good dinner but i think I was expecting more of an upscale environment and experience.
The place is beautiful, but way too loud . Service was nice. The food was disappointing, every dish came with mayonnaise!? Big eye tuna on a crispy taco sound great but the only thing I could taste was mayonnaise. Sea bass popcorn was ok, just like regular rock shrimp again with spicy mayonnaise. Even the sushi came with mayonnaise. With that price tag i was expecting for more . Food wise can’t compare to tiga.
Ambiance is excellent, the food was ok at best with small portions. We had to ask multiple times for drinks as our waitress kept disappearing however we couldn't finish the food off our plates fast enough as we were constantly asked if we were finished so they can pick up the plates. The food is way overpriced for the quality and service that we received.
Over rated. I went there with friends . We called in to change our reservation to an hour later. The changes were approved but when we got to the restaurant they said we only had an hour and half to eat because all tables were reserved. We asked for the manager to see if he could given us 2 hours to eat, but he denied our request …meanwhile we saw and counted 7 tables empty and the whole bar open. Don’t they know they are in the hospitality and service business.? Please learn to treat your guests or learn to decline reservations changes before the customer arrives
Certainly overrated. The food is only slightly above average at most, while the prices are quite excessive. I likely won’t come back here. I've had better sushi at Kotobuki in Hauppauge, Arata in Syosset, and Toku in Manhasset. Still, I wanted to give it a try since it’s the newest spot.
Ambiance was great, food quality was high. Everything was good but nothing was stand out delicious. We tried the scallop with uni, otoro, “tuna pizza” cauliflower, seared nigiri entree and 8pc omakase… all were high quality but lacked flavor. Very small portions for the prices. Service was very slow, it’s a new place so to be expected. Not worth the hype
Good food—maybe a 7.5/10, nothing mind-blowing. But the service? Absolutely terrible, both at the restaurant and from management. Completely unresponsive and unprofessional. Nothing like BONDST on either front.
Food was good, but one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a while. Our server Daniel, not sure if he was racist or just didn’t want to serve my table. We waited 20+ mins after being seated for him to come get our drink orders, he takes my date’s order but completely dismisses me and ignores me, had to get his attention as he walked away for me to place my drink order. Had to wait another 20 minutes to place appetizers and main courses, Daniel rudely says “prefer if you put everything in at the same time”. Both my date and I had finished our drink while waiting, and he doesn’t bother asking us if we would like another round, meanwhile the table next to us he was very attentive too, they got their food before us even though they sat after us, and even went to check on them multiple times regarding if anything else was needed. Place was very loud, if you’re looking for something intimate, go somewhere else.
We had RSVP for a table of 6, they offered us at our RSVP time a table for 4 and expected us to sit like sardines. They overbook and expect people to put up with their BS. Don’t not recommend dining with them at all
Food was interesting and decent. Some items like the crispy rice were very good and different than typical high end sushi restaurants . The problem was the way the rushed us through the process. We sat down at 6:45pm and we were back in the car at 7:25pm. They kept asking if we were done. They took my wife’s plate away while it still had food on it after she just told them she wasn’t finished. They put it back and took my plate and cleared the table around her and brought the dessert menus. Then when dessert arrived they gave us the bill. I mean come on it’s not fast food. You can’t charge $350 for dinner for two and force us out in 40 minutes. Will NEVER go back.
We were a party of 6 and 2 people from our group ran a little over 15 mins late and the hostess with attitude gave r table away. I told the lady that the other two people are valeting the car she still gave our table away. Told us she’s going to sit us as soon as they’re here at another table. We waited 1 and half hours and decided to leave and had dinner with the best service ambiance and managers and hostess that actually care at FELICE. Worse service and turned off my the hostess they hired .
RUDE! Disappointing Experience Food not impressive either, Toku is far better We walked in to grab a drink at the bar and were immediately turned away because we didn’t have a reservation for the bar. My husband and I had dined there on opening night and wanted to bring our friends to check it out, but the experience was nothing short of rude. My friend took a few steps inside to see the bar, and the male host actually told another worker, “Stop him!”—comical and completely unnecessary. We will never return. Turning away paying customers is a bold move, and one day, they may regret it. As for the food, I wasn’t impressed when we dined there. It doesn’t compare to Bond Street, and I think Toku is far better.
We arrived with high expectations, but our experience was disappointing from the start. Upon arrival, we found the doors locked until 5 PM, leaving guests standing in a crowded line. When the doors were finally unlocked, the hostess failed to inform anyone, and it was only after some guests took the initiative that we were able to enter. The hostesses lacked warmth and attentiveness, setting an unwelcoming tone. Our reservation was at 5 PM, yet it took exactly 37 minutes to receive our drinks, and that was only after we had to follow up. Our server, John S., was not only unprofessional but also rude and dismissive. He attempted to justify the delay by claiming that multiple tables (about 10 or more) had all ordered non-alcoholic drinks, which he suggested was the reason for our wait. However, he never offered an apology, displayed a condescending attitude, and provided service that fell far below industry standards. Due to this poor experience, we lost our appetite and ultimately decided not to stay for the food. While we may consider giving the restaurant another chance in the future, there are many other establishments that offer superior service and potentially even better cuisine. To Mr Kim's Reply: Mr. Kim, It’s hard to reconcile your claim of “doing the best they can” when simple service expectations were clearly not met. If your front-of-house team isn't prepared for the demands of a new opening, it speaks to a lack of planning and leadership. The reality is, they were on the front lines and failed to deliver an experience consistent with what any paying guest should expect, especially when opening a restaurant that’s being marketed as a high-end experience. You mention the Resy system indicating we arrived at 5:03 pm, but that ignores the fact that we arrived at 4:38 pm and were told to wait in our car until 5 pm. At 4:55 pm, we were standing right by the door with other guests, and the door didn’t open until we asked. This isn’t a matter of misunderstanding the system—it’s a failure of communication and preparedness. As for the cocktails, the 37-minute wait was not an exaggeration—it’s a fact. I don’t need to lie about that. I timed it from the moment we sat down, and I also asked for an update, which wasn’t delivered in a timely manner. The fact that I had to even ask for the drinks to be checked on is a red flag. Additionally, I find it telling that John, described as one of your “star servers,” failed to acknowledge our clear dissatisfaction during the first 40 minutes of dining. He had ample time to address the situation, yet he didn’t. It’s also curious that despite your vast experience in luxury dining, you never came to check in with us, nor did you seem to notice when the issue began and continued to travel further. This lack of attention to detail and failure to address customer concerns is inexcusable, especially for someone claiming decades of industry experience. Lastly, while you may have 30 years in the industry, the truth is your actions—or lack thereof—spoke volumes. The apology you left on Google felt empty and insincere. If you're truly committed to luxury dining, there should be more than just surface-level acknowledgments. As someone who has traveled the world and dined at some of the best restaurants, I have high expectations—expectations that, unfortunately, Okaru did not meet. It’s not just about “falling below expectations”; it’s about the complete disregard for the standards you claim to uphold.
We came to this place with high hopes as we had heard a lot about it. However we were very disappointed. They are short on servers. The drinks for few in our party of 6 didn't arrive for 30 minutes. The server was quite rude. It was difficult to find any server for just little things.. No one is accountable. Even the manager wasn't much help. We left after the appetizers and without drinks. Don't think we will be coming back here again.
