Salt traders never disappoints. this was the first time my 18 year old had been here and she hit me with the BRUh when she saw we had to wait a bit. My fault, I didn’t make reservations on a Friday. But once she tested the food, she saw what I was talking about. They have a great menu with good happy hour before 6. Sundays has a great mimosa set up too. Prices are very fair for what u get. Definitely worth ur time.. adding my favorite Sunday funday drinks!!
The service is awesome. The food is more than delicious, súper top! The portions are a little small but still worth it, because the flavor is wonderful! We order different things row oyster, grill oysters, ceviche tostada, sea food pasta oh my good, and scallops! The desserts are super good, lemon pie and coconut mousse! I can’t wait to come back, I am pretty sure with this place you never go wrong!
Salt Traders in Round Rock is absolutely delicious! The food is always fresh and full of flavor, and the drinks are spot on every single time. We especially love bartender Q , not only are the cocktails perfectly crafted, but the energy and hospitality make the whole experience even better. The manager Zack is impeccable as well, ensuring everything runs smoothly and guests feel truly taken care of. From start to finish, it’s an outstanding dining experience we can’t recommend enough!
Our 2nd time here, both on a whim, no reservation, later on a Saturday evening (9pm). Food is superb. Drinks are superb. Dessert is superb. Gabriel is awesome! He was our server the first time and Courtney was our server this last time. Love chatting with them both. For excellent seafood at reasonable prices, don't sit on Salt Traders.
Courteous and personable service from the hostess to our waitress and trainee. Each of them wished us a happy anniversary. All food was delicious and flavorful! We had the ceviche tostadas, hush puppies and tuna tartare as our appetizers. For mains we had the cioppino and grilled tuna with street noodles. Both dishes were amazing! Finished the evening with the complimentary Boston cream cake special which was decadent yet light and a perfect complement to our meals. Thank you for a memorable evening! We will definitely return!
First time eating here and was really impressed. We started with some oysters from Connecticut, super fresh and really delicious. I ordered the fish tacos. They were really good, fish was fresh well cooked and seasoned. Came with a side of this corn stuff which was DELICIOUS! I'd highly recommend the key lime pie for dessert. Was absolutely phenomenal. Our server, Morgan, was very attentive and answered all our questions thoroughly. She was super nice too. I'd definitely recommend this place for some good eats.
Great food and even better service. We are an average family of 3. Simple folk with an 11 yr old daughter. We were able walk in at sit right down. Our watress(Elise) was amazing. A drink never went empty, dishes were explained and her enthusiasm was contagious. I ordered rhe crispy shrimp and rice.. my wife the fish and chips and my daughter the mac n cheese. All the food was hot, tasty and presented like a work of art. We also ordered the ated carmel desert and it was nothingwss than perfect. Definitely a must stop if you like fish, shrimp and oysters. Still some nice dishes for the kids who may not like it.
We decided to go to Salt Traders Coastal Cooking at the last minute and didn't have reservations. To our surprise, we didn't need them. The hostess informed us we could sit at the counter height tables by the bar or on the patio - no wait at all. We sat in the bar area which was very pleasant. After a brief but thorough menu orientation from our server, I chose the Shrimp & Grits and my wife had the Scallop Pasta (with linguine, green garlic purée, and candied jalapeños). The jumbo shrimp were fresh and cooked perfectly. The yellow grits had a nice heat level that brought a bead of sweat to my brow. My wife loved the scallops; they were delectably tender with a perfect sear. The candied jalapeños added a sweet & spicy flavor. She let me sample a scallop and it was melt-in-your mouth perfection. But I digest... I mean digress. We had first tried a couple of the 'bar snacks' - jalapeño hushpuppies and snapper collar. For an extra appetizer, we had the hearty crab cake which was full of lump crab, and we shared a fresh and delicious garden salad. It must have been the coconut mojitos, but I found myself saying 'yes' to dessert. We ordered the key lime pie and the salted caramel pudding. I was sure the food coma was going to kick in at any moment so I said "No mas" when asked if we would like anything else. The staff was very attentive and we never felt rushed. The pace of the meal and table service were perfect. We look forward to another visit very soon. Wonderful experience.
First let me just say the waiter did an amazing job, explain there features and things other people like the most. Never had fish dip before but It was amazing, the fried oyster was amazing as well and It was top with a sweet coleslaw. The sear scallops was the star of the show, that puréed squash and roasted corn was an amazing adding to the plate i would 100% say to try It. The seafood pasta was equally as good, i don’t like olives but i sure did eat them today. I will be coming back to try more food, the pumpkin cake was amazing and the key lime pie. Thank you Matthew for being an amazing waiter
This was a first time visit for our family plus my mother. We have zero complaints. The staff was beyond awesome and informational. A waiter from another table stopped by to host a couple magic tricks for our girls. Our waiter provided exemplary customer service! We will definitely be going back to Salt Trader's. 😁🐟
We visited Salt Traders restaurant after reading good reviews and were not disappointed. Amazing food and service, great atmosphere. We had a group of 8 people including two toddlers, and our server was fantastic and knowledgeable about all dishes on the menu. Would definitely come back.
Absolutely hands down the best sea food place I have been to. Everything and I mean everything is made fresh in the restaurant down to the fries. We had thebread platter that comes with fresh rustic bread, butter and pickles. The also offer a small plate of a salmon spread ( the salmon is smoked on the premises) and their potato chips, made in house. I had fish and chips and the fish had a crisp batter coating, not greasey like so many places have. Desert is coconut mousse with pineapple sorbet and strawberries.
This seafood gem by the Round Rock outlet malls is a from scratch restaurant. The service was amazing and the bathrooms were clean. They have different deserts and specials daily. They give complimentary salmon appetizer. We had the hush puppies and oysters. The hush Phipps’s were just okay the oysters were great. For our entrees I had the shrimp Cobb salad with no eggs and my spouse had the fried fish and shrimp platter with just fried shrimp. The shrimp on the salad was beautiful. The bathrooms were clean.
Came at friend’s recommendation. Such a great late lunch! Everything was absolutely delicious! Lobster roll and subbed crispy Brussels sprouts, tacos, fish and shrimp plate, friend had steak frites lunch special. Clam chowda was some of the best we’ve ever had. No photo, but two had the brownie dessert and devoured them. Key lime was pretty good as well. Somewhat attentive service as he was training (perhaps a bit lax on beverage refills). Awesome to know Texas can get great seafood too. We’re from NC where there’s a lot of fresh seafood available.
First time dinning in , the food was delicious!! The service was attentive and exquisite! The ambiance was a great vibe! I order the shrimp and lobster 🦞 roll with dip fried chips & Tuna 🍣 Poke bowl was well cooked and hot! I would highly recommend this place! The amuse bouche was a smoked salmon w/ capers served with 2 kettle chips was unexpected but highly appreciated👍🏾for dessert we had lime meringue cake 🧁
Amazing service and excellent seafood! The surprise is the exceptional deserts! Wow! We were planning our next visit before the main course arrived. Did i mention they have a signature rum drink ON TAP? Oh, and the fresh oyster bar looked great! 7/24/25 Salt Traders in Round Rock, TX continues to impress with its fresh flavors, vibrant ambiance, and consistent service. I’ve been a fan since day one, and my recent visit reminded me why this spot remains a standout on the local dining scene. I ordered the Crispy Shrimp Bowl, but instead of jasmine rice, I swapped in extra veggies — and I’m so glad I did. The bowl came alive with color and flavor. The shrimp was perfectly crisped and coated in a sweet, tangy, slightly spicy sauce, balanced beautifully with sesame seeds and fresh microgreens. The vegetables weren’t just a side note — they were sliced fresh, including ribbons of cucumber, cherry tomatoes, pickled onions, and assorted greens. Every bite was crunchy, flavorful, and refreshing, with just enough drizzle of house dressing to tie it all together without overpowering the ingredients. To pair with my meal, I tried one of their signature tiki drinks, served in an unforgettable purple ceramic tiki mug. Complete with a tiny umbrella, lime wedge, and festive garnishes, it was tropical, smooth, and balanced — not too sweet, not too strong. It’s the kind of cocktail that makes you want to linger a little longer. For dessert, I treated myself to the Iced Coconut Mousse, which is hands-down my favorite and, not surprisingly, their number one seller. This dessert is both elegant and satisfying — the mousse is creamy and cool, with a delicate coconut flavor that isn’t overly sweet. It comes topped with fresh strawberries, a thin crisp garnish for texture, and is plated with a scoop of what tasted like a coconut sorbet and a light strawberry drizzle. The birthday candle on the plate was a thoughtful touch for my birthday! Salt Traders also gets top marks for the atmosphere: there’s plenty of parking, the bar area is spacious and lively, and the service is always fast and friendly. Every server I’ve had knows the menu well and always offers thoughtful recommendations. Whether you're in for happy hour, date night, or a solo treat-yourself moment, Salt Traders delivers every time. Highly recommend!
We were staying overnight in town and were a bit unsure about dining right on I35. The whole experience was amazing. The food was great and happy hour oysters were awesome. I wish we had one in Dallas! Suzanna S was an awesome server!
Service was excellent! The waiter was friendly, attentive but not overly bothersome, and was very helpful and informative about the menu. They do have an actual physical menu which I appreciate (rather than just some QR code). The food was delicious! It was the best order of fish and chips I’ve ever had. The fish was just cooked to perfection, succulent and moist inside of a crispy crust. The tartar sauce was also exceptionally good. Gumbo was full of flavor. If I could afford it I would go back more often - The quality of food and service certainly justifies their price-points. They do not have a kids menu which is a bit strange.
One of the best restaurant experiences I have had in a while! Food was absolutely delicious and pleased everyone in our party, even our daughter, who is picky! I had the salmon, which was perfectly cooked and had the most unique and flavorful sauce. For the price I expected a much smaller portion! Also, our dessert, the brownie with ice cream and butterscotch sauce, was absolutely out of this world. One of the highlights of our visit was our server, Gabriel. He was absolutely delightful and made excellent suggestions! He kept us happy and entertained as well. I really can't say enough good things about this restaurant and we will absolutely be back next time we are in the area.
This is probably one of my favorite restaurants in Round Rock. Their food is delicious. My favorite is their Ceviche Tostadas for appetizers and Simple Grilled Fish that serves different fish each day, but it tasted soo good every visit so far. Their oysters were super fresh. I also like their Po-boy sandwich with shrimp.
Always a great time at Salt Traders! The food is very fresh and the entire staff is always very friendly and accommodating. We had a few people in our group that had birthdays and they were provided with desserts and candles. The server also gave great suggestions and knew the specials well. Will come back again for sure.
We stopped in for dinner this evening. Had the wood fired salmon and it was just delicious (photo below). My husband had the tuna steak and it was equally delightful. We also ordered the crab roll as an appetizer. Unfortunately it arrived at the table well after dinner and it was really bland. We chose to skip that and move on to dessert. We had the chocolate chip brownie with ice cream and a salted caramel sauce! Hands down the best dessert in Round Rock.
Went to this venue on a Friday for lunch with a group, we had reservations and were seated promptly. Parking is adequate and the restaurant is clean, well lit, and very pleasant. We received good service. They take pride in their wide variety of fresh seafood, their oysters in particular. We were very pleased with the quality and portions we received. The gumbo was spicy and hearty, the "lunch menu" shrimp enchiladas were delicious, the lobster roll was a generous portion and very tasty, the crab salad was delicious, and the po boy too. The ceviche is excellent, and a full bar is available for adult beverages. Prices are reasonable for the food quality and setting. I plan to be back...
Decided to stop here since I was staying at the hotel next door. The food was amazing!!!! My coworker and I got the Crab Louie Wedge, the Wood Grilled Ruby Red Trout along with the ceviche and a 2 Peruvian Scallops. And of course we had to have dessert which was the Heath Bar Brownie. We would order it all again and again 😁 Our server was as sweet as can be and very polite. Got the Rum Runner drink which was good yet a little strong. 🤪 Looking forward to coming back for sure!
Phenomenal service! Our server did an amazing job throughout our visit. The food and drink options were excellent and the quality and taste were matching in deliciousness. The restaurant has a comfortable but yet upscale feel to it that I highly recommend for an evening out. This was our first visit but will not be the last for sure.
We had a great time at Salt Traders! We went with friends on a Saturday and were pleasantly surprised that we didn’t have to wait long for a table. We started with oysters and drinks, then tried the Norwegian Salmon Crudo — absolutely delicious! The service was outstanding, making the whole experience even better.
Everything was so very fresh and perfectly cooked (if applicable)! Risotto was overly salted but the recipe rescued it and texture was perfect. Plain bread and butter was quite expensive- who charges for *that*! Quite loud but we could talk.
I was able to get a table right away despite being peak hours for the restaurant. The restaurant has a very lovely atmosphere. I came to this restaurant about a year ago and it hasn't changed much, the food and one are still great and depending on where you were seated you might get an overhead view of the town. The white wine was great, it is a Spanish wine I recommend you try a glass. If I would salmon was also very delectable, the gumbo was very good; try a cup. For next time I should try their oysters and see how those measure up.
My first visit to Salt Traders was during the pandemic where I placed an order for take out. The food was OK and did not leave a good impression. However, in my 2nd visit, I decided to dine-in, the difference was day and night. Being lunch time during the normal week day, we got seated right the way. We ordered Smoked Fish dip as appetizer, which consists of smoked fish, cream cheese, capers and paired with kettle chips and I went for lunch portion of Poblano Shrimp enchiladas, that comes with two enchiladas filled with grilled shrimp, topped with roasted poblano cream, jack cheese, onions, escabeche and a side of tomatillo lime rice, in addition, I also ordered a cup of Seafood Gumbo. The fish dip was not what I had expected to be (Cold instead of hot with melted cheese 😅) but the quasi-shredded fish with cappers paired beautifully with the chips; the enchiladas with Poblano cream had an outstanding flavor and the tomatillo lime rice was excellent; an finally, the seafood gumbo... Well, I don't consider myself an expert but that cup of gumbo was the BEST I had ever had since got introduced to Cajun cuisine in the late 1990... From texture to flavor, it was good from the beginning to the end. Very happy with the overall experience and I look forward visiting the restaurant again in the near future.
This place is 10/10. My wife and I have been blessed to eat here a couple times. If we lived closer we would eat there every week! This restaurant is hands down my top 5 ever. The service has been exceptional and the food is worth every penny. Thank you so much Salt Traders for making our night 100% more than perfect. We have had Brad and Jade serve us here and I’m telling you they are the best of the best! Both knew every menu item and were able to recommend exactly what we wanted based on simple conversations about what food we like and dislike. If I owned a restaurant I would want every staff member I had to mirror them to help everyone have a perfect night out. Besides the cooks they are the super stars.
FOODIES!!!! This place is amazing!!! Prices are extremely reasonable for the QUALITY of food you get. I’m little upset it has taken me this long to come here! Skyler was our server. He was EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE of the menu! He was extremely attentive s well. He was extremely welcoming. As we left, several server thanked us for our visit. The concept is wonderful, farm to table with exceptional, seafood options. Thank you so much Salt Traders Coastal Kitchen for anther great night!
First of all, the staff were some of the friendliest people I've ever encountered at a restaurant. Thank you to the two female servers who took care of our business dinner! We started with a tower of 3 different types of Oysters. We agreed that the Gulf Oysters were the best! As an entree I had the lobster and shrimp parpadelle in lemon sauce which was delicious and not too much food! And the coconut dessert with lemon sorbet and a carmel biscuit was one of the best desserts I've ever had. And I've eaten at several Michelin star restaurants. The food was excellant, the customer service is 5 stars, and the price was great! We had 3 people for a business meal but this restaurant is great for families, date nights, or just hanging out with friends at the bar. I will be back!
We are so glad Salt Trader opened one in RR. It has become our weekly dining spot. The foods are amazing, especially the raw oysters are fresh and tasty. You pay what you get. The service is great. We have not had single unpleasant experience with their server. The parking lot has enough spaces even during peak hours on weekends.
Oysters were fresh. Bacon mac was creamy. Crab fried rice was delightful. The big surprise were the martinis, we had dirty and the lime twist ones tried both the gin and vodka versions. So smooth and definitely exceeded expectations. We will be back.
Went on a Saturday for dinner. We had never been and when we got there we were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. We got the homemade bread and butter, fried calamari, fried fish and shrimp plate and the apple cake dessert. Everything was delicious! I could not complain about anything. The waitress was very helpful and was sweet to put a candle in my cake for my birthday. I definitely suggest making a reservation if you are going during a busy time. I can not recommend this place enough! I don’t think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. And the pain killer drink was delicious!
Despite our waitress acting like a robot, there were several other employees that were very attentive. My SIL's octopus was grilled and seasoned well. The calamari was not greasy...and the batter almost reminded me of Long John Silvers 😉... for those of you who remember and enjoyed it! The grilled scallop risotto was tasty, and it was not overgrilled/dry! I would return.
Food is delicious. There are of course dishes that are outstanding compared with other dishes. The clam chowder and the grilled swordfish with risotto come to mind as things to recommend. If you want something casual; fish and chips won’t disappoint.
Amazing food, atmosphere, and service. Everyone was wonderful, and the hospitality was among the best in Austin. Thank you, Courtney, for caring for our dietary restrictions. Courtney genuinely cared and made sure my meal was GF and DF. Overall, it was an amazing first time.
My boyfriend and I love coming here. We haven’t ordered a dish we didn’t like yet, and yesterday we celebrated his birthday here. Our server Gabriel made it extra special, he was so sweet and made sure my boyfriend felt celebrated! He brought out a dessert at the end of our meal with a candle and got a couple people to join in on singing happy birthday. I really appreciated him going above and beyond and wanted to make sure to thank him here too!
This was our first visit, but my family goes there a lot. Superb seafood. Oysters were delightful. Good cocktails. Catch of the day and device were also excellent.
I ordered the clam chowder and lobster and shrimp roll with fries and it was really good and filling! I went with co workers who tried the shrimp bowl, biria fish tacos and another fish fillet dish. All of the food looked amazing and my co workers said the same! The waiter was very knowledgeable about the dishes and desserts. The green and white candy taste like key lime pie so grab a bunch!!! No sweet tea only really good homemade lemonade!!
Had the Oysters and Clam Chowder there for lunch, very fresh and delicious. Highly recommend.
My wife and two kids went to Salt Traders. The food was fantastic. Full bar with frozen grapefruit margaritas is definitely a plus. Excellent variety of Gulf seafood served and plated well. I didn't see a lot of offerings for non-seafood eaters, but they do make a good burger and have a kids menu. Service is attentive. Love this place. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food.
We thoroughly enjoyed our food and drinks. Our server Kollyn was great and attentive and gave her recommendations which we appreciated. There was an issue during our visit however we were very pleased with how our server and the manager addressed it and it therefore did not affect our experience. Will be back and would recommend.
We ordered the Wood Grilled Shrimp Pasta and it was FABULOUS!!! Please, please, 🙏🏼 PLEASE add it to your regular menu!!! It was so DELICIOUS! It was creamy, slightly spicy and so WONDERFUL! 😍Our server was excellent too! I enjoyed the House Gin and Tonic which is a true delight too, different and special! 💗
We went to salt traders for brunch to celebrate a friend of mine‘s father‘s birthday. Joe turned 78 today and this is one of his favorite places to eat. He has several medical conditions that prevent him from really enjoying life the way he would love to, but once a month he gets to go out and eat some wonderful food. So we probably go to salt traders a few times a year with them to have brunch and enjoy their company. The people here are wonderful. The food is fresh and taste great.
The service was outstanding! One server in particular was extra attentive; she's from Florida (Puerto Rico). She somehow could foresee when we needed more drink, more napkins, etc. And she was a waitress, actually waiting instead of interrupting like most servers these days. The food was perfect: oysters were fresh, the shrimp enchiladas were so delicious! The sourdough bread was hearty and were direct out of the oven, so good. Now their rice was too salty, not my favorite. But overall, I'm very pleased. This was my first time here and now we're putting it on our restaurant rotation list. Hopefully we'll come here a couple of times per month. Can't wait!
The food was exceptional , i’ve never been to a restaurant as good as salt traders . It was my boyfriend and i’s first time and Bradley made it extremely memorable . Knows the ins and outs , so knowledgeable and kind . One of the best servers i’ve ever had . If you come in , ask for bradley ! Thank you !
Monday night dinner and we were seated immediately. Very nice uncluttered decor but elegant and comfortable at the same time. We saw some folks dressed in shorts and some folks dressed in suit and tie. Our waiter Skyler was friendly, knowledgeable and had our first drinks to the table while we perused the menu. Without asking a two bite appetizer was delivered to our table. I think it was 2 kettle chips with a dab of smoked fish dip. Yummy. We ordered grilled oysters and a house salad for our appetizers. The oysters had a great flavor and the salad had a nice balance of fresh, sweet and acidic. We wanted some bread to pair with our salad but we didn't want a whole basket so Skyler brought us a plate with 2 slices of Focaccia bread. Perfect. Skyler also suggest wines to pair with our dinners that was spot on. I had the wood fired salmon and my wife had the special shrimp and scallops dish. Both dishes were wonderful and tasty. Thanks. We will be back.
Salt Traders is an upscale / non traditional seafood restaurant owned by the folks behind Jack Allen's Kitchen. Dishes are comparatively small, but extraordinary in presentation and quality. You should get one (or more appetizers), even if you normally don't at other restaurants. They have rotating chef-created specials, and I highly recommend whatever is on the menu for the day. What stood out is that all dishes we tried are perfectly seasoned, with unique flavors and textures that elevate the dishes above expectations!
After getting out early on the last day of school, I wanted to take the kiddo to lunch. My son wanted seafood, and we had never tried Salt Traders, so we stopped for lunch. We arrived at the opening, so there was no wait. I had the Shrimp and Grits dish, which was delicious, and my son had the Shrimp Hot Po' Boy. The Po' Boy came with a spicy sauce that they kindly put on the side for my son. The Shrimp and Grits were really good. I will be back for more someday. The Po' Boy was an excellent sandwich with delicious shrimp, bread, and pickled onions. The food and service were excellent, and I will be back with the wife and kid someday (she already asked when we are going to go again).
Our first time at the restaurant! Love the modern coastal decor. We were immediately seated for Saturday brunch without a reservation. The food was cooked to perfection. The staff was attentive especially Kenny with his Ernest Hemingway description of the items on the menu. We loved his description so much that we ordered everything he recommended. We definitely will return. It is a lighter healthier faire type of menu and we truly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere!
This spot definitely gets packed for dinner. Open Table reservations are highly recommended. We were able to get a table before our reservation for Happy Hour. Our server was friendly and we never felt rushed to order. His attention to detail was top notch with a table spill, oyster stand, and straw requests. The entire staff was friendly and very team oriented. This location/staff does not disappoint for warm Texas hospitality, conversation and fresh entrees.

Soooo good. I had the Flat Top Fish Tacos. Divine! The grapefruit Rita’s were awesome too. Great atmosphere. Ask for Bradley. Great service.
Wife and I love to hit this place for their $1 gulf oysters at happy hour. Their cioppino is also excellent.
Nice restaurant in Round Rock with fresh food and drinks to visit with friends, family and kids. Love a variety of fish dishes, everything is really freshly made, no complaints, but no limits for perfection! Service is fast, polite and attentive. Easy to book the table on their website. Recommended to try!
So I wanted to take my wife for crab legs last night and Google brought up Salt Trader's. It wasn't too far from the house so we went for it. The ambience was nice and had a laid back atmosphere. When we received the menu my wife and I were sort of lost. However, our hostess explained the menu and options available. We started off with 2 bowls of Gumbo and Fried Calamari (both were tasty). Then we order some Fried oyster lettuce wraps (didn't too much care for those). I also ordered the Mac n Cheese with crab not too bad (wish I had hot sauce though lol). The last thing that was wonderful about Salt Traders was the hot towel they give you before you leave to wipe your hands, my wife and I haven't been to any establishment with that feature before. If you are looking for a chill place to take someone for the first time not a bad establishment to take them to. If you don't have a clue what to order like myself, stay safe and stick to the appetizers.
Visit this place second time and today I celebrate my birthday here. Food we order today: (1) Chawda Fries - 4.0 (2) Yellow Fin Tuna Nigiri -3.5 (need more wasabi) (3) shrimp & lobster roll - 4.5 (4) bacon Mac & cheese with Crab - 4.5 (5) catch of the day, Flounder Fish - 3.5 (not outstanding). Overall is a satisfying lunch. Definitely will come back again!
The oysters are unique and I really enjoy the different selections more than just gulf oysters at other restaurants. The food here is always solid and if you are searching for a seafood restaurant this is the place to go. They have excellent spirits as well. Come if you are craving fish or other seafood and you won't walk away disappointed.
I ordered shrimp and yellow grits...I didn't like the taste of the grits at all . I believe that there was cheddar cheese brown butter and who knows what else in them. The shrimp just tasted so-so. That doesn't mean that their other dishes weren't any good. That was the first time that I ate at salt traders. I will try again but I won't order the shrimp and grits. My husband ordered the fish and chips and he said that they tasted okay.
If you fancy seafood Salt Traders is a great way to go. You immediately know that if you came here for anything else you might be in the wrong place. The atmosphere screams fresh catch. Outstanding food and courteous staff makes for some of the best seafood you’re gonna catch in Texas.
Oysters were indeed fresh and great for the price! I think they're the best I've tried in Austin so far. Comparable to NYC HH oysters but prices slightly steeper and not $1/ea. This is likely due to Texas being a land locked state. Surprisingly, the grilled oysters were also flavorful and delicious. I'm usually a raw oyster kinda gal and even these were scrumptious! Also ordered a lobster roll, scallop entree, gumbo soup, and dessert. They were alright. The oysters were the star of the show.
The food and service were good, but pricey. The coleslaw was not very good, I like HEB better. The kettle chips were tasty though. I don't recommend the hush puppies appetizer, 4 for $6 or $7. A side salad is $9, I wanted one, but it was too painful for me to order! I had fish and shrimp, it was good. Total bill for 4 was $190 with tip, ouch! I probably won't return for quite a while, too expensive. 04/20/25 update: Had Easter lunch here with the wife and enjoyed the visit. The waitress was pleasant and helpful. The food delivery guy was extra helpful. I had a house salad, and fried fish and shrimp. My wife had a bowl of gumbo and some fish special from Spain. We both enjoyed our meals. But I was a little shocked when I learned the Spain fish was $39, ouch. In spite of that, we enjoyed the lunch. Oh yeah, when we arrived, my wife was told the wait would be 30 minutes. When I told them we had a reservation, they confirmed the reservation and seated us immediately. Nice! Total bill for two was $126.
Really enjoyed our dining experience at this restaurant. So glad we made a reservation since it was a very busy night. Their fish and chips are very good. I was also impressed with the pot sticker appetizer which my son devoured. It is kid friendly and they give kids gold fish and crayon and paper to color. Great service. Everyone so attentive. If I come back to this area, I would definitely go back.
Nice restraunt but l went w someone who has a serious allergy to any kind of pepper. Well the breadings are all pre made w lots of pepper. The server & mgr were so gracious and understood we had to leave. Def would try them if circumstances were different. Very clean ritzy place.
Food was fresh and tasty. Was a little bummed they stopped happy hour on me at 6 minutes so make sure you order before the happy hour ends. Loved my gulf oysters. Felt the blackened fish sandwich could have had a little bit more seasoning, but the Mocktail was amazing and I loved my keylime tart.
I had an overall good dining experience at this Salt Traders Costal Cooking. The prices are a little steep, but the food presentation and atmosphere is really nice. I ordered the the wood fired salmon, which was ok - not my favorite, however the accompanying items (potato salad and asparagus) were divine!!!! The coconut mousse desert was so delicious and light - I would highly recommend it! The service was also wonderful - staff were extremely friendly and attentive!
Great atmosphere and service. They brought out a complimentary sample of the fish dip and house-made chips to start us off. The dip was perfectly smoky and salty, not overwhelmingly “fishy” at all. And the house made chips were incredible! Crispy, salty, seasoned just right. Hubby ordered oysters as an appetizer and said they were great. I’ll have to take his word for it ‘cause, you know, “fool me once…” LOL For entrees, we ordered the fried shrimp & fish platter that came with homemade French fries and also ordered the scallops & risotto. Honestly, the fish & shrimp were perfectly coated and not overcooked at all. The breading was just crispy enough to compliment the tenderness of the shrimp and fish. The fries were skin-on traditional style with a touch of sea salt. As for the scallops and risotto, I have to say that I felt the basil parmesean risotto and arugula overpowered the scallops. While the scallops were perfectly seared, their sweetness was only uncovered if you ate them by themselves. I think the underlying basil flavor is what made this dish less than perfect for my taste. The bitterness of the arugula was also a bit of a distraction to the pallet, so I just pick it out and pushed it to the side. If I were to order it again, I would ask if the risotto could be prepared without the basil and would ask the cook to leave off the arugula. Overall, it was a very nice meal, and the next time we drive through Round Rock and are in the mood for seafood, we’ll give it another visit.
Mixed as far as the food went. Oysters were great, 1/2 gold coast and 1/2 New Brunswick. The shrimp carbonnara risotto was good, as well as the snapper collar. The Birria tacos lacked flavor, as well as the dipping sauce. The hot sauce is vinegar with heat, so there is not much help there. The waitress was helpful and nice. The atmosphere is bright and nautical.

We came with high hopes reading the past reviews. We had reservations which allowed us to seat quickly. The service was prompt and friendly. A bit noisy in the restaurant but it appears this is intentional based on the interior design. We ordered the mussels first and split the crab Louie wedge. The mussels were fine but a bit of sand was randomly present. The salad had too much dressing overpowering the fresh crab. For entrees we ordered the birria fish tacos and the cioppino. Be forewarned the main fish used is Black Drum fish. The tacos were taken off the grill just before the cheese burned. If you like that smoky near burnt flavor, this is for you. The contents of the taco were rather scant, as I included a photo. Sadly, the cioppino did not fare better. Lots of sand in the broth and in the mollusks. The fish was mushy and not appetizing. I will say the wait staff did note my dissatisfaction and proffered me to try another dish. At that point, I was no longer interested in trying another potentially disappointing plate. The Bacon Mac side dish was fine, and became my entree. For us, a disappointing experience.
We were intrigued by the ratings and menu looked inviting. The hush puppies were overcooked and for what they are 4 for 6$ seemed not that great a deal. Fried oysters overbattered taste of the oyster was lost. The hot chicken looked great but missed the mark and wasn’t really hot and whatever it was dipped in transferred to the sandwich and was soggy. Fish and chips also overcooked and overbattered. Lobster roll looked good chips over cooked.
I was excited to try this place cause it was recommended. Busy Friday night. Checked in with host, I asked how many minutes? She said just a few minutes and I’ll get your seat. 38mins later I asked how much longer and she forgot😡. They got us a seat right away. The two stars comes from the food and our server. Food was decent and server was good but it’s pretty hard to take away the first bad customer service. But there were two managers there and I run my own business so customer service is important. Food was good so maybe I will come back for that but I’m big on customer service. If she said 38mins it would have been 5 stars. Celebrating Mother’s Day and just kind of dampen the mood a bit. Work on training and customer service.
We got seated quickly because nobody was there when we arrived for an early lunch. It filled up quickly with all the tables in our section being filled. Somehow we got passed up and people seated way after us (two tables) had gotten their meals before we could even order. When we got our appetizers, we received grilled oysters instead of grilled scallops. He apologized and said he would take it off of our bill. He didn’t. I still ordered the scallops because that’s what I wanted. They both were the same flavor so pointless needless to say. We also got the crab fingers and those were delicious! When we got our sandwiches we were already full and took them home. Mediocre to say the least. Not impressed. If you’re in the area go to Whiskey Cake instead. It will not disappoint!
Service was slow. Server was pleasant, asked question but didn't wait for answer. I didn't ever get my salad, but I wasnt charged for it. Non alcoholic beverage was pricey and so packed with ice it was literally 4 sips and gone. Fish and chips were good, but cod was no better than Culver's. I guess you pay for ambiance. Portions were large, but I was unable to request a to go box. Made in house potato chips were good. My husband said east coast oysters were great, gulf oysters were just ok. He enjoyed his wood fired salmon. Dessert was delicious. Chocolate brownie with small dip of ice-cream and butterscotch topping. TIP: Go during happy hour for better pricing on oysters and bar drinks.
First off I wanted to say the service was excellent our server answered all our questions in detail about the food and how they cooked their food being our first time there. The Chips and tuna dip were really good the chips were crunchy and the tuna dip had a nice smokey taste to it. The calamari was great it was crispy and light with the batter. Loved the fresh oysters we had there were three different types of oysters they served that you can choose from the menu. I would recommend getting the fish and chips there and the southern fish tacos. Although the fried fish were crispy the fries were a little soggy. The fish tacos were delicious you could pick if you wanted the fish fried or smoked and I got the one that's smoked there were a lot of flavors packed in the fish tacos with the pickled jalapeno and red onion. Overall the food here is mediocre the steak was okay and the shrimp enchiladas were a bit salty but love the rice that came with it. The smoked salmon was not as flavorful as we expected it to be felt like it was missing something.

oysters is good but the service is disappointing. our server said our order placed at 4:40 and we got our order at 5:22 to be exact for a salad and fish taco!!! btw the fish taco there’s still bone in it. on the other note. salad and fish taco is really good I hope they debone it. (that’s my experience )
I have came here numerous times maybe 10 total, and I'm not sure if it's a staff problem or what but my last 2 experiences have been very disappointing.\n (Hair in my food was the last straw)\n\nI …
We have been to Salt Traders many times. It is one of our favorites. My wife and I made a reservation and when we arrived we requested a booth so we could sit together. Almost all booths were open when we arrived. We were seated in a completely empty area in the back right. Partial booth and chair seating. The AC was blowing on us. Eventually more customers arrived in that area, but the booths never filled up. I guess they have a policy not to seat only two people in a booth, even if they are open. The food is always good and the waitress was good, but we just did not like having to sit in the back, after we requested different seating, which was available during the entire meal.
